It's finished.

After switching between Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, Manjaro, Antergos and a dozen WM's I've settled for Arch on the desktop.

Took me over a week of trial and error, but it's worth the pain for the level of control you get.

Switching to Linux reminded me much of trying to find out if I liked text editors or IDE's more when I first started programming. I changed tools every day before I settled.

So I've been using Antergos Linux as a way to ease myself into Arch.

Gnome apparently has moved to Wayland so I thought "Oh I don't need the Xorg window server anymore, let's just delete the Pacman package for that..."

Oh. Oh crap.

That was a mistake.
...Gnome is gone.

.... Guess I got my excuse to install vanilla Arch.

This year I am gonna install different os and distribution in my laptop.

1st distro is PoP Os

Previous distro - Antergos

Today my raspberry pi media center bricked itself (at least it won't boot properly. Than I thought I just format the SD card and reinstall everything. But than my windows pc won't boot properly because it's still running on old hdd and I suck at building PCs. Than I tried my ThinkPad with antergos and remembered that it is also dead because the last update broke something. And now I'm trying to boot my windows at least into safe mode and my ThinkPad to boot from the live stick to chroot and fix it. Still waiting since 15min for any progress.
Now is my old Oneplus One with an outdated nightly of a custom Rom my only working connection to the web.
I'm starting to think that waiting for the last minute to fix problems might not the best way for me.

After i read about Arch Linux for the first time here about a few weeks ago, i thought i'd give Antergos a try on my Laptop which i use solely for working. Found out that Matlab is supported, so i don't even need a VM.

First time having a Linux distro. Still feels a bit odd for being a Win only user for a long time, but i love the look and with every hour it gets easier. :)

How many of you uses Linux? I personally used for the first time Antergos (that discontinued, memed, arch based distros) with kde, then I started using Manjaro with gnome, as Manjaro was unsupported by most of the communities because it was arch based, I decided to move to Ubuntu, I sticked around on Ubuntu with gnome and then I installed i3, omg I loved i3 so much, after months of Ubuntu with i3 I decided to try new desktop environments/distros, so I installed xubuntu, xfce was boring, but efficient, just perfect! Then I installed kde neon, just to try it out! Now I still have kde neon and I'm thinking about trying Debian!

Flash has made Java programs look desirable. And anyone keeping up with me knows I despise Java and C#, despite having written C# and currently working on deciphering a Java server to create documentation.

Before I begin, I want to make this clear: IT IS TWO THOUSAND AND FUCKING EIGHTEEN. 2018. WE HAVE BETTER TECH. JAVASCRIPT HAS TAKEN OVER THIS BITCH. So, firstly, FUCK FLASH. Seriously, that shit's a security liability. If you work for a company that uses it, find a new job and then fucking quit, or go mutany and get several devs to begin a JS-based implementation that has the same functionality. There is no excuse. "I'm fired?" That's not an excuse - if there is a way to stop the madness, then fucking hit the brakes on that shit or begin job hunting. Oh, and all you PMs who are reading this and have mandated or helped someone else to mandate work on an enterprise flash program, FUCK YOU. You are part of the problem.

The reason for this outburst seems unreasonable until you realize the hell I went through today. At my University, there is a basic entry-level psychology course I'm taking. Pearson, a company I already fucking hate for some of the ethically sketchy shit they pulled with PARCC as well as overreach in publishing to the point they produce state tests here in the US - has a product called "My PsychLab" and from here on out, I'm referring to it as MPL. MPL has an issue - it is entirely fucking Flash. Homework assignments, the textbook, FUCKING EVERYTHING. So, because of that, you need to waste time finding a browser that works. Now let me remind all of you that just because something SHOULD WORK does NOT mean that it actually does.

I'm sitting on my Antergos box a few days ago: Chromium and Firefox won't load Flash. I don't know why, and don't care to find out. NPAPI and whatnot are deprecated but should still run in a limited mode or some shit. No go on Antergos.

So, today I went to the lab in the desolated basement of an old building which is where it's usually empty except a student hired by the university to make sure nobody fucks things up. I decided - because y'all know I fuckin' hate this - to try Windows. No go in Chrome still - it loaded Flash but couldn't download the content. So I tried Firefox - which worked. My hopes were up, but not too long - because there was no way to input. The window had buttons and shit - but they were COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE.

So the homework is also Flash-based. It's all due by 1/31/18 - FOUR CHAPTERS AND THE ACCOMPANYING HOMEWORK - which I believe is Tuesday, and the University bookstore is closed both Saturday and Sunday. No way to get a physical copy of the book. And I have other classes - this isn't the only one.

Also, the copyright on the program was 2017 - so whoever modded or maintained that Flash code - FUCK YOU AND THE IRRESPONSIBLE SHIT YOUR TEAM PULLED. FUCK THE SUPERIORS MAKING DECISIONS AS WELL. Yeah, you guys have deadlines? So do the end users, and when you have to jump through hoops only to realize you're fucked? That's a failure of management and a failure of a product.

How many people are gonna hate me for this? Haters gonna hate, and I'm past the point of caring.

I'm dissatisfied with the laptop market.

Why THE FUCK should I have to buy a gaming laptop with a GTX 1070 or 1080 to get a decent amount of RAM and a fucking great processor?

I don't game. I program. I don't even own a fucking Steam library, for clarification. Never have I ever bought a game on Steam. Disproving the notion that I might have a games library out of the way, I run Linux. Antergos (Arch-based) is my daily driver.

So, in 2017 I went on a laptop hunt. I wanted something with decent specs. Ultimately ended up going with the system76 Galago Pro (which I love the form factor of, it's nice as hell and people recognize the brand for some fucking reason). Matter of fact, one of my profs wanted to know how I accessed our LMS (Blackboard) and I showed him Chromium....his mind was blown: "Ir's not just text!"

That aside, why the fuck are Dell and system76 the only ones with decent portables geared towards developers? I hate the prospect of having to buy some clunky-ass Republic of Gamers piece of shit just to have some sort of decent development machine...

This is a notice to OEMs: yall need to quit making shit hardware and gaming hardware with no mid-range compromise. Shit hardware is defined as the "It runs Excel and that's all the consumer needs" and gaming hardware is "Let's put fucking everything in there - including a decent processor, RAM, and a GTX/Radeon card."

Mid-range that is true - good hardware that handles video editing and other CPU/RAM-intensive tasks and compiling and whatnot but NOT graphics-intensive shit like gaming - is hard to come by. Dell offers my definition of "mid-range" through Sputnik's Ubuntu-powered XPS models and what have you, and system76 has a couple of models that I more or less wish I had money for but don't.

TBH I don't give two fucks about the desktop market. That's a non-issue because I can apply the logic that if you want something done right, do it yourself: I can build a desktop. But not a laptop - at least not in a feasible way.

A guy who's parked next to me in the RV asked me today if I know anything about computers. Sure, what's it about?

He has forgotten his password for a Word .doc file, already installed all possible tools for password cracking, but none of them worked, and now
he can't find his vacation photos and surfing the internet suddenly doesn't work anymore.

Okay, no problem, I'll take a look at it. Windows 7 Home Edition, completely covered with malware, everywhere popups with pr0n ads.

I told him that I can't do much more than trying to recover the data and reinstall the OS. But before that, I'll make a image of the hard drive (thank god, only a 250 GB hdd). Then we'll see.

Unfortunately neither he nor I have a Windows DVD, so he will probably become a proud user of Antergos tomorrow.

After a few hours of trying to get Antergos installed on a SD card I decided to give up and try Ubuntu instead as it usually have better out-of-the-box compatibility. And just like that, I've got it up and running on my School computer. (bios locked, can't boot from USB but SD works for some reason).

So, I'm going to run Ubuntu from a 32GB SD Card, should I upgrade to something bigger?

Edit: I survived grub update. Phew..

Wanted to install raw antergos on my new usb for pure chrooting into it, but it gets stuck on preparing the disk and there seems to be no solutions to it.

Had given my laptop at the repair store. They were just suppose to do a checkup and then give a choice on whether to repair or not. They repaired it and charged me 2.8K. No unit replacement or anything, just service. I didn't mind it (was actually happy seeing my laptop boot up and not have a blank screen). It's a dual-boot (Windows/Antergos(Arch-linux)). It booted to Windows instead of GRUB. Didn't care too much, because it had happened before and I had handled it.
After I take it back home, I discover that the WiFi doesn't work (it doesn't even seem to be a driver issue). Live boot of arch doesn't have access to WiFi either. Reinstalled GRUB, only to discover it doesn't boot successfully (issues with video card). So, now I'm stuck with fucking Windows WITHOUT WiFi and an arch-linux that doesn't fucking boot.
Gonna reinstall Arch now.

P. S. : Windows is super fast, because I haven't really used it and don't really like using it. I feel very limited by Windows.

Really can't be bothered with installing arch Linux manually... I feel dirty downloading antergos :-/

Update to my last rant: thought I'd give antergos a try, I've heard it's better than Manjaro so I'm gonna see what I think, so far it seems identical more or less

Ok, so many people rant about windows update. It can fuck up things, starts unexpectedly (after 100 warnings and messages letting you choose when but ok) and it takes too long to update.

I use Windows daily so I update regularly and never takes more than 5 mins. 20 when its a major update twice a year. So let's talk about Linux.

Yesterday I wanted to try out .net core on Linux so I booted my antergos vm to do it. TLDR: Didn't do shut because, surprise, Linux updates.

So apparently I downloaded the wrong version of visual studio code. Uninstall and install the right one then. Nope, can't do that. Some dependency must be updated. That dependency is on the highest version on the AUR, I have to get a different one. Ok, no problem. But I can install the other because uninstalling the original breaks more dependencies. Well fuck then.

So I decided I'd do a full system update with pacman, shouldn't take long. 1.6gb worth of update. I have 200mb download so it should be fast right? Well, I had to wait a couple of hours.

So I couldn't do anything on my afternoon because of Linux updates. That's an original rant isn't it?

And before the comments get here, yeah I know it's arch, it's difficult and all that. This isn't about being hard to do. It's just annoying and making me lose time.

Writing x86 assembly code in VS Code feels so weird. I mean, I'm using something that's built using crazily high level languages (JS, HTML, CSS), on top of a mammoth runtime environment (Node, V8), which is itself sitting on a modern and sophisticated operating system (Antergos), and I'm writing code that shifts bits and bytes around in memory in order to get one part of my C program to run just a little faster. Wow.

Antergos is going out of the play. And i saw a very click baity article which poised the following statement at the end:

"Is the death of Antergos a major loss? No, not on its own. Despite the developers bragging about over 900,000 downloads (over the last five years) it’s hardly a popular operating system. Still, its demise is a part of an emerging trend where developers don’t have the resources to continue a project. And both the Linux and Open Source communities should be very worried about that. Developing for love or as a hobby simply isn’t sustainable."

Now, this is, at least to me, bullshitty in the sense that the open source community does not really have anything big to worry about. Large pools of companies would make yeary investments in open source codebases due to the ammount of usefulness they present to their companies. More and more great open sourced projects come out every year OUTSIDE the all eating scope of just web development(which to an extend is fine since it brings communities together)

Saying that a hobby isn't sustainable is funny in itself really.

If people don't have the time to support a hobby project because they are moving on to bigger and better things in shit that actually pays then I am glad for them. It tomorrow Arch, Debian, pop os, ubuntu and fucking freebsd goea out then I would have something to bitch about.

Till then, stating that the community haa something to worry about is just bullshit.

I just spent 45 minutes trying to make my HP printer work in Arch Linux (actually Antergos, but close enough).

Finally had enough and booted into an Ubuntu MATE LiveUSB that I had... Which saw the printer, connected to it, and printed without needing to install anything extra.

I gotta say, while not a big Ubuntu fan, I'm certainly impressed it was stupidly simple!

Because I am very interested in cyber security and plan on doing my masters in it security I always try to stay up to date with the latest news and tools. However sometimes its a good idea to ask similar-minded people on how they approach these things, - and maybe I can learn a couple of things. So maybe people like @linuxxx have some advice :D Let's discuss :D

1) What's your goto OS? I currently use Antergos x64 and a Win10 Dualboot. Most likely you guys will recommend Linux, but if so what ditro, and why? I know that people like Snowden use QubesOS. What makes it much better then other distro? Would you use it for everyday tasks or is it overkill? What about Kali or Parrot-OS?

2) Your go-to privacy/security tools? Personally, I am always conencted to a VPN with openvpn (Killswitch on). In my browser (Firefox) I use UBlock and HttpsEverywhere. Used NoScript for a while but had more trouble then actual use with it (blocked too much). Search engine is DDG. All of my data is stored in VeraCrypt containers, so even if the system is compromised nobody is able to access any private data. Passwords are stored in KeePass. What other tools would you recommend?

3) What websites are you browsing for competent news reports in the it security scene? What websites can you recommend to find academic writeups/white papers about certain topics?

4) Google. Yeah a hate-love relationship, but its hard to completely avoid it. I do actually have a Google-Home device (dont kill me), which I use for calender entries, timers, alarms, reminders, and weather updates as well as IOT stuff such as turning my LED lights on and off. I wouldn"t mind switching to an open source solution which is equally good, however so far I couldnt find anything that would a good option. Suggestions?

5) What actions do you take to secure your phone and prevent things such as being tracked/spyed? Personally so far I havent really done much except for installing AdAway on my rooted device aswell as the same Firefox plugins I use on my desktop PC.

6) Are there ways to create mirror images of my entire linux system? Every now and then stuff breaks, that is tedious to fix and reinstalling the system takes a couple of hours. I remember from Windows that software such as Acronis or Paragon can create a full image of your system that you can backup and restore at any point to get a stable, healthy system back (without the need to install everything by hand).

7) Would you encrypt the boot partition of your system, even tho all data is already stored in encrypted containers?

8) Any other advice you can give :P ?

I can't decide on a linux distro because all I've tried are great. Seriously.

I'd call myself a novice-to-intermediate linux user (heavy on the novice part) and since I work as a web developer it's been a great learning experience to use the same OS on my workstation as the webservers my projects run on. (Ie I started out with Ubuntu and a LAMP setup).

The thing is I distrohop ad infinitum... Feels like I've tried out every desktop environment known to mankind (I just can't stop myself when I see a new one or a new take on an old one) and I've dipped my toes in Arch territory to. Loved Antergos when that still was a thing. Found EndeavourOS this weekend, kernel panic ensued. I'm a noob with sudo and that's never a good thing. 😆 (Try out in a virtual machine first you say? Bah. Where's the fun in that?!)

So now I'm on Linux Mint w Cinnamon because why not. (Because it's sluggish and boring, that's why...) I had to just get something up and running quickly so I could get back to work. 😬

But one day in and I'm realising I actually miss GNOME. And Ubuntu feels like home. I would feel much cooler using Arch but honestly I don't think I can be trusted with it. I love tinkering with settings, look and feel and whatnot but I can honestly do that just as well in an Ubuntu/GNOME environment.

Maybe Pop!_OS... could be something for me. 😏

Is it just me or is the Audio driver for Antergos WAAAY better than the one on Windows? Big diffrence for me at least.

Decided to switch to Linux full time. I've spent the last week reinstalling the OS about once per day. Upside is that I can install my system with all my preferences in about 30 minutes flat !

Dual-booted Gaming Computer: A Saga of Frustration, Alcoholism*, and Relief

So a while back my gaming computer was booting Antergos Linux and Windows 10. It took me a few months, but I finally became fed up with Windows 10's bullshit of putting ads in the OS (Suggested Apps, OneDrive, etc.) and reinstating all of their defaults after an upgrade (Edge, privacy settings, the People Button in 1709).

So, I backed up my data and installed Windows 7. Windows 7 has a bright, consistent look, and in my opinion still holds up as a good operating system.

However, I couldn't boot into Antergos after that. For whatever reason, no matter how hard I tried, I just wasn't able to. So, I decided to reinstall. Might as well, anyway.

Now, I have an nVidia card, which does not play well with the OSS drivers, so it's basically normal for me to have to unplug my card and use the on-board graphics. So I do that and boot into the LiveUSB, do the install, boot into the desktop, install the nVidia drivers package, shut down.

I reinstall the card, turn the computer on... and nothing. Just a black screen with a flashing underline. I can't even get into a TTY session.

I ended up trying a few other distributions--Gecko Linux, Arch Labs, Manjaro--but all had the same issue. I was about to give up, but decided to try Antergos one more time, but with the newest install media.

And it worked! I was so freaking happy! I can finally play my Linux games again!

Tried installing Antergos on an external 1TB SSD to give it a try after having checkout Mint, now my laptop won't boot from it anymore after having removed and reinserted the disk and it skips to Ubuntu's grub on my HDD or windows.

Ubuntu's grub does show antegros whenever the ssd is plugged in though, and then I get this error while trying to boot it. Also changing the boot order doesn't do much and it skips to the next thing on the list.

I'm probably going to overwrite antergos and try to use portable antergos on it, perhaps it wasn't made to hoot from a removable drive. Ubuntu and windows still work fine but ubuntu is on my hdd because the internal ssd is full of windows, and super slow.

So now I have a partitioned ssd that doesn't work and a grub entry that gives an error ugh :/ (and a slow ubuntu but that's not as bad)

Anyone else have any idea of what happened? I have definitely seen antergos work before packing up and removing the drive, so the installation was succesful.

I've tried to open ARW files on Windows all day, no luck. Works 'out of the box' on my Antergos system.

I have a lot of free time now so time to move from Debian-based to Arch-based distro :D

I simply can't choose so I just picked up Antergos. Heard a good thing or two about Manjaro but eh for now let's just randomly pick.

Welp. Time to ditch windows entirely! It's outlived it's usefulness, so my last windows computer is getting converted! So let's start a flamewar! To all the nonpurists out there, a question! Manjaro vs antergos? (I love arch but I'll be damned to have all my systems broken. I want at least one semi stable system)

Spend half a day trying to make sound work on my antergos install, after multiple image builds, kernel jumping, reinstalling alsa, realized that people working on making cherry trail laptops sound work - stopped working on it since like april 2017 and new kernels have simply no patch to make it work, great.. debian docs mention that you should be able to use an external soundcard atleast, but the whole alsa and pulseaudio shit doesn't make that easy at all.. atleast the battery time with arch+powertop+tlp is almost the same as what I would get with windows out of it

Hey peps! One quick question on the OS side: whats your opinion on Manjaro vs Antergos? Both seem quite wholesome on both working and casual aspects and i can't find many things a little less unbiased about them :/

I just love antergos, haven't updated in like a month, because wasn't using my laptop as much, booted it up, ~200 package updates, it failed because one file needed to be deleted as per announcements (I now subbed to those) and all updates cleanly went through.

Last time I didn't update a week on arch, it broke ~6 core packages and my dm, never thought I'd be on a pretty much arch release, but without the actual bleeding edge issues.

Had to reinstall Linux on my gaming PC today. I tried Korora (Fedora based) but failed at installing the NVIDIA drivers.

So, back to Antergos I go. It's so much easier running [sudo pacman -S nvidia] than having to blacklist nouveau...

i used to stan KDE before i learned of lxde and xfce...

So I ended up going with antergos and xfce DE on a cheapo 4gb ram i5 laptop.

It works, sometimes it hangs because of ram, but the thing that is infurating me the most is javaFX with animation loop (school course) whenever I run it, it works for a minute then oh good fucking Lord what happened to you!!!

It hangs, mouse doesn't work, and it takes like 10 minutes for it to respond back and somehow forcefully close the application, running that with task manager asude, I don't see anything critical, unless I'm reading this wrong

CPU averages around 10% and sometimes spikes to 70% few times
Ram is around 50%, swap is 50% too

What could the issue be in this case? I'm sure running the whole thing on windows this wouldn't have happened, what am I missing here?

Anyone with 2 monitors (or more) with laptop as the primary source. How did you connect everything together? Also, I use Linux (Antergos)

I bought 2 monitors. I was able to connect one of them to my laptop with HDMI. Now, my laptop only has one HDMI and no VGA. So I can't really figure how to use 2 monitors with my laptop (also extending it and not duplicating screens).

I've come across HDMI splitter. But I don't if it allows extending screens

What Linux distros do you use and how stable are they ?
I'm currently running antergos, but it's really not working out. I'm looking for something that is more or less stable in the long run (something that doesn't require me to reinstall the whole f-ing OS every other day)

Should I wipe my duel boot Ubuntu/Windows and install antergos base + X + i3-wm during my final month of thesis?

The revolution has started. Over half of the computers in my household run Linux, the other being macOS. Even my grandma has hopped on the Antergos train.

Thinking about installing a Linux distro on my home computer as the second OS. Any recommendations on which distro to use? I'm not a total beginner, I just haven't used any desktop environments for Linux yet. I'm currently having a look at Arch + Budgie - any previous experiences?

Must have software on Linux (Antergos + KDE)? Looking forward for new stuff that's worth checking out.

What do you think the best antergos desktop is? I'm looking for one that's relatively fast and lightweight but that looks nice.

Spending six hours installing Antergos and reinstalling Antergos because I can not log into my laptop when I install i3 nor when I install GNOME...

Turns out the drivers for NVIDIA got installed (I checked it without thinking about it) everytime and that was the culprit...

Lesson learned: install everything by yourself, that way you know what you have on your laptop, and makes it much easier to troubleshoot..

Ok, so I'm a daily Linux user, recently I've been using Antergos, but there are certain things that haven't been working for me. I'm looking for a Linux distro with sane defaults and with which I can have peace of mind in the security aspect (Fuck Canonical and Redhat), any recommendations?

Ugh, tomorrow I have to work again again after 5 weeks vacation so I figured let's update my antergos installation on my work laptop so I can jump right into the current issues. Turns out something broke my installation 5 weeks ago to the point where I can't login into my DE. So here I am attempting to fix it before tomorrow starts, 3 hours in :l

Well.. I just installed Antergos on my laptop, and I'm already getting frustrated just installing Spotify.

Might go to something else, I just want to use my computer, why must it be so difficult to listen to music

Looking for linux distro / desktop recommendations...

I'm bored of my setup and want to try something new. I'm currently running elementary os with pantheon desktop but the fact that wingpanel can't auto hide drives me insane. I've also used Mint+cinnamon and ubuntu+unity in the past.

I'm currently considering Antergos as a distro because I don't have time to install Arch but I have no clue which desktop env to try - Gnome,kde,mate,xfce...

Any suggestions?

Ardour keeps telling me my hard drive isn't fast enough for playback. I'm using a Thinkpad t420 with an SSD, so the only reason I can think that my hard drive wouldn't be fast enough is if swap is slowing it down. I wanted to record music over winter break but I couldn't because of that issue. Music in Linux is frustrating. I will say that antergos made the process of installing jack, guitarix, rakarrack, and ardour a breeze though, so that's something.

Anyone here tried to i3 rice antergos? I am new to the subject and I prefer to stick with antergos instead of pure arch.

Trying to improve my console experience with Windows, I had antergos with Sindragosa in background and blue console font before, now it's time for Doomguy + yellow font and I like it :P

I want to intall a bare bones Linux set up with i3-wm. I'm looking at a Base antergos installation and continue to configure from there. Do you thing that this is a good place to start after using i3-wm on Ubuntu or would you recommend another distribution?

To add to it, the laptop ideally uses Nvidia Optimus

Guys need help. I have dual booted Antergos with existing Windows 10. After installating Antergos it did not boot, Windows 10 was booting directly.

So I fired a command in Windows 10 cmd
bcdedit set {bootmgr} /boot/efi
And then I was able to boot into Antergos via Grub bootloader.

Now the problem is that I can not see Windows 10 option in Grub bootloader.

I tried to Google the solution and I came to the conclusion that if I install the Grub again system should automatically detect the Windows installation.

But I'm not sure where to start. Has anyone faced this problem beofre?

Why is there so much hate towards Manjaro Linux and so much love towards Antergos ? I mean, it's still Arch, right ?

It's just that Manjaro has its own repos but you can still use AUR.

I was thinking of switching from Antergos to Arch but im afraid i cant keep track of all the software i have. Is there any way to easily keep track of all software you have when switching os?

i wonder if there's a frontend for vanilla arch installation

I did install antergos as base, but i never got to partiton like you guys have - mainly because i loose patience when the partitioning dosen't go smoothly. It hasn't. not even in virtualbox.

Help a future Linux convert out!
So far over the past year I've gone through Mint, Fedora, Ubuntu and REHL and all have had their issues or just didn't agree with me. Currently I've been using OpenSuSE Leap I haven't had much an issue with... But I'm looking to try out Arch, though I'm not a fan of the whole CLI install. Doing some more research I saw Antergos which is just Arch but more n00b friendly and more elegant to me. Has anyone had experience with Antergos? Is it as it seems? Any pros and cons with Arch Linux based things? Running it in a VM first doesn't do it justice for me.

Update on the ACPI booting error - i attempted to install antergos onto the SWAP partition (to try to rescue my files and then reinstall antergos) which was 8gb, which is too small to install antergos, a DE, and the bootloader. i wiped everything. Impatience is a bitch. why am i like this.

i also decided on using xfce rather than kde - i feel like it runs faster. I can get the kde WM right? i miss my wobbly windows

I was using using mate, today I switched to antergos, the font does not look good as it did in ubuntu. Anything I am missing?

Soon I'll reinstall my linux system. (Currently Antergos + KDE). People keep mentioning arch, i3, and rice. I wanna give it a try. Any suggestions or hints you guys can give me beforehand?

It's been a few months, and it'll be further few months until I get access to my beloved Linux machine.

However in the recent weeks, a sudden interest for gentoo has sparked my mind.

The Linux machine is running antergos, but I think I'm ready to try gentoo, when I get back in a few months!

My laptop is dual booted with antergos, my work files are all on onedrive, so if something happened to my laptop it wouldn't be the worst

Question to experienced linux users: Whats the best way to setup install scripts/pipelines.
Say, I am re-installing my entire os (antergos, kde) and I want to automatically install software, set background image, set configs for jetbrains IDE's, setup shortcuts, desktop icons etc .. , what's the best way to do that? Bash scripts came to my mind at first but interacting with e.g. KDE can be annoying. Any ideas?

I've only tried antergos so far, and it looks really promising, but some people say its bad... 🤔

Looking forward to switch to one of them though, don't feel ready to go pure arch yet 😅

as much as I like manjaro, and antergos is very nice looking, and sometimes arch bang is just easy and good:

they are not arch. yes they are arch-based. but you are not an arch user. you are a manjaro/antergos user. please do not call yourself arch users. and especially do not ask questions in the arch forums. all of these arch-based distros have their own forums for a reason.
