Hey peps! One quick question on the OS side: whats your opinion on Manjaro vs Antergos? Both seem quite wholesome on both working and casual aspects and i can't find many things a little less unbiased about them :/4

What does Linux and web development have in common. New distros and framework popping up everyday.
What is wrong with people, creating distros and web framework for dumb reason. When they can contribute to to existing distro/framework to make it better.8 -
Laziest habit? Anything done between 1pm-4:30pm and 4:59pm-8pm. During that time, habits include unnecessary refactoring, poking the CI/CD containers, editing already made prototypes in gimp inkscape, pasting stackoverflow topics to youtube, bouncing from macOS, windows and kde distros in search of zen/rice, adding a calendar emoji on my slack :), making useless automation scripts, building on every variable's value change, tinkering pixels, shades, gradients (and their angles), dimens, anim values, anim curves, opacity, blurs and just nuking the ui just to copy paste an old one, 60% just chatting in code alongs, changing key bindings (from ide to OS), and ultimately zoning out on a podcast about cyber security. And of course: waiting for ++ and comments

What are some good tiny/mini/micro computers for a homelab?
My requirements would be
- x86_64
- 8GB RAM or upgradable to such
- upgradable ssd
- can install linux distros on it15 -
Have you ever tried using sqlite3 from npm inside a docker container?
Yeah, it doesn't build on Alpine, despite being among the most popular Linux distros thanks to Docker.1 -
I got a very low power Netbook lately for basically no money.
I thought about using it for some server monitoring / server access via ssh console.
Which Linux distros would you recommend for such a use case. Tried Something like core-os and Debian(lxde) yet but wasn't very satisfied with both options. Both could not display the battery capacity and Debian didn't detect the Intel WiFi.
The Netbook has 512mb of ram which should be fine for a lightweight gui and more than enough for a ssh connection 😅
Thanks a lot for the recommendations :)12 -
I use Debian btw.
Srsly I used it on every woking and private maschine and every server where I had the choice, even in most docker containers for over ten years. And I can hardly complain. Problems occur very seldom and are always fixable. Everything I need works just fine (execept for PS, but no distro could aolve this). I have literally zero incentive to try other distros because Debian just does it for me.
Sometimes I wonder though if something is wrong with me? Is it Stockholm snydrome? Am i missing something inportant? Because everyone seems to struggle constantly with the question of distribution.
Whatever. At least I struggle with the question of which Desktop to use because everyone available sucks.4 -
I'm getting a new laptop and planning on installing Xubuntu on it. Anybody have any other distros that they like that I might consider installing instead?15
-
I'm sure many of you have old laptops and PCs lying around at home. Don't throw them away, and don't just leave them out there. Put them to use.
Install a Linux distro on them and they'll be as good as new https://linuxstans.com/best-linux-d...7 -
Has anyone spidered the web and repos and found info about the Linux distros for comparison ? Like packages and vendor support and kernel ? I feel like fedora is just debian with newer software that uses rpm
On another note I'm wishing these idiots had just let me work straight through as a developer or tax auditor etc because I'm not working in Dickson just so they can steal my car again after working hard and honestly to improve my fucking situation
As I said as I remember things and that was a pretty big one
All the time people spent fucking around and the world went in a circle and I said this last time
Fucking people should have to hand me over a check for the number of times I bought that damn car !2
