EDIT: devRant April Fools joke (2017)
-------------------------
@trogus and I have had an absolute blast working on devRant over the last year. However, we're strong believers in only working on a project if you're passionate about it, and over the last few months, we've sadly lost some of that passion so we've to announce, with heavy hearts, that we will both be moving on. We've decided to focus 100% of our energies on our next product, one which we are confident has billion dollar potential: Semicolon JS (http://semicolonjs.com).
We identified this sizable market opportunity as we were building out the new devRant website. Every JavaScript framework we tried left us wanting more. More efficiency. More elegance. More extensibility. That's what Semicolon JS is: more. More than a framework, it's a guiding philosophy. We believe that Semicolon JS will do for front end development what Material Design has done for user interface design. We're calling it Semicolon JS because even though you can still develop JavaScript without it, like a semicolon, we think it will soon become a standard and synonymous with quality JS development.
So comes the obvious question. What will happen to devRant? We wanted to make the announcement today because we will be officially shutting down the product in 30 days. So that gives everyone a full month to take in the last memories, look at those rants they really loved, and hopefully take some time to chat with @trogus and I about Semicolon JS and what we have planned.
With so many thanks and looking towards the future,
- @dfox and @trogus160 -
This genius made his very own super-flexible-and-versatile-never-seen-before-mvc-framework, with no documentation about the code, instead of just donwloading and implementing a popular one.
He left the company.
I maintain it.
Fell my pain.18 -
*fiction* At a job interview:
"We are looking for someoje with 4-5 years of exp. in plep.js framework"
"Yeah, I've worked a lot with it"
"How well do you know it?"
"Perfectly I think, I released it last month"1 -
I am so damn happy right now 😁! Finally I 🎉 released 🎉my own PHP Framework after countless sleepless nights. I'm happy that I want to spend more time looking at my open source project, surfing on same pages than going to bed. LOL! 🤣
Anyway if you're interested please pay a visit on the link below. I will humbly ask your support—a few stars and forks will keep me motivated 🔥 on improving my project. Thank you everyone!
When it comes to PHP frameworks one is forced to choose not the best one, but the least evil.

When your stupid brain decides to rewrite the whole core of an application (written in a framework I just started with) two hours before the deadline and it f*cking works1
-
I thank whoever made the jsRant, a client for devrant to view in js looking style in browser. Teacher walked passed by and asked what i was doing. I said i was exploring the source of the newest javascript framework. He said what is the name. I said semicolonJS. He asked who made it. I said some person who has fox in his name did it.
Thanks everyone! I had some laughs after he walked passed by without noticing anything.7 -
Haven't seen a JS framework in a while? Well say no more, I just created a framework to make sure the flow is ongoing:

Enjoy!18 -

Laziest thing!!!??? You better ask me when I was not lazy. Framework here framework there, library here library there.

Me: asking about a problem in javascript
Other: do u use a framework?
me: yes
other: which one?
me: vue
other: i would use angular because this and that
me in my head: okey thanks but its not a problem with the framework lol
pls stop this. react, angular, vue are all doing the same10 -
I stared at the errors with the hope that they would go away. And my friend did this.
Now the errors are gone.
Bad day8 -
*Looks up advice on how to implement something

Absolutely loving the Slim 3 PHP framework. It's extremely simple, fast, and easily extensible. And nice use of dependency container.
-
So processors have Moores Law, I'm starting to think Web Development has one too.
"There shalt always be a new, better, framework, that would have saved weeks of time, but only after you've hit the point of no return in a project"
Anyone else know the feeling of "damn...I may as well just rewrite everything...."3 -
I've learned A TON creating my own very basic PHP framework. I'm using it for basic personal small projects (login system, simple functionality) and I'm loving it. The customization makes specific repetitive tasks so much easier.
Don't get it twisted, I use Laravel and Symfony much more (and Javascript) but I would definitely recommend anyone to do it just for the learning experience.9 -
Who want's to build devRant in Windows XP style? 😃
There's a css framework called XP.css
https://botoxparty.github.io/XP.css...10 -
Earlier this day (or yesterday, timezones 'n stuff) I posted a "rant" about my new Project:
"The Spigot Web Framework" - a Tool that should help Owners of Minecraftservers without dedicated Webserver and knowledge about developing a website.
In the Screenshot below I show you guys, how few lines of code can make a beautiful website.
The Modulemanager is fully done and people can build their own Modules, which can be live updated.
I am currently working on "cross communication" between the Client and the Modules.
I hope you guys stay tuned!
EDIT: As mentioned in my last rant (look @comments) I will be able to pull off a standalone version of this software.18 -
rule 34: if it exists, there is porn of it
rule 35: if it exists, there's a javascript framework with that name10 -
So almost burst a vein today because of a teacher who kept telling us that the .NET orm , Entity framework , loaded the whole database in memory at a context's instantiation , i thought that's kind of stupid thing for an ORM today, considering the hit on performance and memory consumption with large DBs, and asked her to argument why they would adopt such an approach , at the end she said it worked like that and that me saying it's inconvenient is just my stupid opinion . when i looked it up on the internet i couldn't for the life of me find any mention of that behavior and that she was completely WRONG !! i fucking hate this dumbshit university am going to , anyone looking for an intern trying to escape dumb fucks ?5

Good idea:
Making your own framework so you have control over it and your projects
Bad idea:
Making your own closed framework rendering Google and SO useless
Context: the company I work for creates their products using their own framework, it works well and allows for things other framework didn't think about, any error coming from it cannot be searched for since it's only used internally.3 -

I need to pick a CSS framework for a[n eventually very large] React/React-native project at work. Any suggestions?
While I'm very good with CSS, nobody else is,
and eventually everyone is going to be touching the project, so it needs to be pretty easy to use.
I'm thinking of picking Bulma, or one of the newer, lighter frameworks, but I just don't know. (I'm also getting a lot of pressure to pick Bootstrap3 so we can... copy tables from unrelated sites? I guess? idgi)
Anyway, I have until Wednesday to completely convert over (it'll take me a day), and I still don't know what to pick yet.
Suggestions/advice welcome!23 -
The sales team sold a project using our 'innovative framework', which had 'prebuilt components', which we 'only needed to plug n play' with a 10 week deadline. Of course, the framework didn't exist. Guess who was the lucky guy who had to create the framework AND finish the project in 10 weeks? fml...7

Like restaurants in New York, you can learn a new Javascript framework every month for 15 years and never learn the same framework twice
-
OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!
IT FUCKING WORKS!!!
I tried so long on getting my new Netty based webserver up and running, I think I grew my beard twice... But NOW ITS WORKING!
Need to delete a few unnecessary functions that I needed with the old web server, implement SSL. And I can finally release a version of my framework ❤️❤️❤️
And I might put up one standalone version because - it's the same freaking server every time so I am fucking loving to export it ❤️❤️9 -
It's both extremely satisfying and extremely rage-inducing when you learn that an update in the framework breaks your once perfectly functional code for no reason.
Especially when said code is from a sample written by the developers themselves.
Thank god there was a hotfix. -
Me: After 3 days of deliberation, I finally picked a framework, I can jump into the rewrite
*2 hours of inspired coding later
I finished the configuration validation and logging setup! What was that framework again?1 -
The tale of the asinine Typescript framework guy continues:
>guy makes a framework
>promotes it
>people don't wanna use it because it's mediocre
>doesn't care, he still promotes it
>people started criticizing his framework
>won't listen
>calls his critics haters
>thinks PH tech guys are way behind the world
>says a lot of bad takes in tech himself
>such as NodeJS used as a front-end
>people tryna correct his bad takes
>calls them haters too
>people start complaining
>gets banned in many PH tech communities
>except one
>total windbag in there
>somebody calls him out, explains why they hate him
>he says his framework will be famous and we will all be eating dust
>heckler tells him he is not only the person in the open source community and tells him a famous Filipino open source contributor
>says he doesn't know this famous contributor and he doesn't care
>challenges heckler to confront him face to face
>heckler calls his bluff and gives a place and time to meet
>big guy agrees to meet
>people are clamoring for him to shut up
>admin tells him and the heckler to shut up
>big guy pushes it
>calls the admin (female) a puta (whore)
>gets banned
>goes on Facebook saying that his heckler will not show up in that place despite it being the favorite hangout place of the heckler since 2017
>that he is being banned because of haters
>people call him out on his Facebook posts and he takes them down
>people in the tech community started thrashing his Github with prank forks and PRs
>guy tries to shame them on Facebook
>gets rekt by tech people
>goes on Twitter saying that backward PH devs are oppressing him
>even tagging the famous devs
@marcusignacius I have lost total sympathy for this guy and his framework. Arrogant, petulant, childish, and uncharitable. honestly he brought this on himself.
Somebody honestly slap him this rant on Twitter pretty please.rant philippines arrogant arrogant oblivious asshole typescript stupid people communities stupidity framework nodejs22 -

PaperCSS - The less formal CSS framework.
I came across this CSS framework which became really popular in the past months (like 125+ stars on GitHub in first week). I wanted to learn more of CSS so I started contributing to it and the community was nice to accept my couple PRs.
Now it has reached near 1.5k stars on GitHub with version 1.3 released.
Go check it out:

After arguing about which framework to use....
Senior dev: we could just write it ourselves
Room: yeah, yeah, yeah...
Me: (quiet) noooooooo....2 -
PHP with Laravel is awesome, best framework ever. I just wish my client is convinced, there is something he doesn't like about PHP9
-
Unpopular opinion.
devRant needs a poll feature :D
im starting a new project, and currently deciding on the css framework to pick. kinda sick of injecting bootstrap into everything and reworking it, time for a new toy.
so... Whats your preferred CSS Framework?
poll: https://linkto.run/p/WGJRHYK7
for the privacy conscious among us, feel free to comment below.9 -
Which framework can jump the most?
Java Spring Framework.
Which framework can store hot water?
Python Flask
Which framework is believed to cause extinction of dinosaurs?
Meteor JS
Which script devs like to drink the most?
Coffeescript1 -
When small things get big and don't work and you wonder for hours what is wrong with your code ... only to find out the problem is in the framework you use.

I am always excited when I see new JavaScript framework. Not in positive way, but still excited.
Why? Because I have so much to choose from. And I love half finished projects. -
Was supposed to start my exams training today (Application Development study). At the daily scrum, I told the scrum master (teacher) that I heard (I did hear that tho btw) that the training only starts next week so 'if I could work on my framework to get it ready for the training'. I know I'm supposed to start today with my project but I rather finish my framework really.
He fucking said YES.
So this will be a happy week of framework programming :D -
Save everything.
My angular app gives errors.
Go to vscode do a ctrl+s on any file
And it works!
Anyone?3 -
First Post since... Long I guess?
I got a new project!! I am currently creating a Webserver Framework in Java. I can create fully functional websites with a few lines of JSON.
(Look below)
Currently I don't have direct Javascript support, but I am working on installable modules. With those the Web-Admin can code little code fragments that can be shown (live) on the webpage.
I am so hyped because it does work <3
(Pictures of development might follow)
(Can I even call it framework? Hm dunno.. )14 -
MSbuild makes me want to blow my brains out.
I know it's no longer used in .NET Core and all the lucky people that don't have to deal with .NET Framework can happily move on.
But here I am, a complete idiot. Expecting MSBuild to build the exact same way from the CLI as it does if I run a build in Visual Studio. Expecting the build server to consistently produce the same result as if I built my solution locally.
Demanding meaningful earnings and error messages that don't leave me completely perplexed as to what's actually going on in the compiler.
Fuck me and fuck .NET Framework. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.8 -
When you work with other developers who would, for any feature, small or large, plop in a new library or framework of which they will utilize 1% of... I'm talking about things that we could develop in house in less than a day and have significantly less code bloat... and when you tell them this they smile, nod, and say yeah gotchu, and continue on... AND YOU HAVE TO MAINTAIN THE DAMN THING.1
-
First month of project we suggest that we test that Entity Framework has made reasonable DB queries because the system will need to handle a lot of records. “Not a priority in this sprint because we need features.” Devs try to get it into every sprint. The last week of the project they want us to dump in a ton of records so they can test it. The N+1 SELECT query issue is on main queries. It is so bad and slow with more records that a simple query causes the container management to auto scale the application on a single query. They can have max 8 users in the system at a time and it will take 10 seconds to do a simple page refresh.
They get on our case and we dredge up all of the correspondence where they completely ignored our advice. Fix it now! We need another sprint. Fix it free! No.11 -
Its hard for a developer. Started to learn a new framework or CMS. By the time one gets familiar and fluent, a new and better one is already out.2

I am really really regretting learning Ionic Framework as my first JavaScript Framework
Now suck it up and learn React...8 -
Finally, I'm opening my mind to Javascript and I'm beginning to learn Node.js.
It seems really great... I think I will try using Express right now.
But then, I would like to try a front-end Javascript framework and I hesitate between Vue.js and Angular...18 -
My PM wants to take the current website, which really sucks on mobile (one of the worst mobile viewports I have seen) and put in an iOS/Android app.
So basically he wants an iOS/Android app which contains only 1 activity/viewcontroller which contains a webview...
My goodness...
Tried to talk him out of it, but I can't even get him to consider using a hybrid framework.
He doesn't appear to care very much about performance of the app neither does the PM care much about UX.
What the PM does care about is this thing called : ONE CODEBASE.
Any tips how I can try to persuade him to atleast consider a hybrid framework? Any requirements that will force the PM to abandon this stupid idea are extremly welcome!14 -
Had a tech interview earlier today.
👨💻: What mocking framework do you use the most?
🧔: Smoking framework???
👨💻: ...
I guess either he needs to improve his skills or I have to polish my English 😂6 -
Worst meeting:
Trying to decide which front end JavaScript framework to use.
Debated about Knockout, Angular, React, etc.
Decision: Too fat frameworks, DIY using jQuery. I wonder how big and unstable is our DIY framework. Is it even a framework? Just few organically written script files.6 -
What's with kids and with js framework(s) ? Like almost every jr student at University is wanking their dicks at it...3
-
The problem method calls into the...back-end framework!
The back-end framework was built on top of...the older framework!
The older framework was built around...the legacy framework!
The legacy framework was a...piece of shit!
And that's why the site just hangs!2 -
As the wise men once said:
You never truly know a framework before you can deploy without ripping your hair out. -
That feeling when you are browsing a job offer and they claim they use "pure PHP".
LOL nope. I won't maintain your custom framework created by five different freelancers over the past few years and turn into something that does scream Frankenstein.
At least state that it uses composer, symfony2 components or some other microframework. I have yet to see an application that truly requires your own framework. And even when you do, base it on silex / symfony2 components. http://symfony.com/doc/current/...1 -
I fell in love with Three.js.
I already know that in a week I will cry, tear my hair out and give up until I will discover another amazing js framework, as a loop. But yeah, it looks interesting1 -
Spending hours upon hours trying to understand C# entity framework relational data mappings, going to the extreme of looking at LINQ queries, writing and rewriting over 100 lines of code only to find I needed to write the joins in dot notation on the include!5
-
When you accidentally changed the .NET Framework version when building and you're looking 1.5h for bugs in your code.
😢😢😥😥 -
To have only one Javascript framework which everyone can use which does not do breaking changes every fuckin 6 months or year. And newer versions are backwards compatible. And will not endorse in any framework wars1
-
Designing a framework: design the framework. Have a bunch of drinks. Try use the framework. Sober up and examine how you’ve butchered it.
Adjust the framework.1 -
Hey guys.
What framework works well with Vue for front-end?
I'm redesigning my webpage but lack ideas and don't know much about frameworks.23 -
that feel when I am the only one in team who knows at least one framework.. and coworkers refuse to learn and instead copy and paste code parts from old, insecure apps into new apps... 😐1
-
A recruiter contacted me regarding Django Framework and asked me to complete one assignment in REST Framework as a recruitment process.
Haven't heard from them since then.2 -
"It might sound counterintuitive but that's just how it works..."
The absolute last sentence you would expect or want to hear watching a tutorial of a big & popular framework created by google.3 -
F*ck JavaFX. I mean, how a GUI framework doesn't have a standart navigation procedure? It is not even possible to create a page by constructor. In many other framework when I wanted to pass a data to a page, I just had to write
"new MyPage(SomeClass someObject)"
but in javafx I have to first create a constructor, link the fxml file to it then show the page.
Actually I am not angry. It is a big mistake to wait a good GUI framework from a company that has a website something like that in 2018.1 -
Does anyone know of a library I can design UI in HTML/CSS/JS for a C# app?
I need to remake my bot framework, but winforms is just so old.19 -
I committed a sin for which I can never forgive myself.
At work, we were using some react plugin but it was lacking some functionality.
In the end, I forked the repo and released plugin on npm -_-
FML, I contributed to this stupid shit while I was happy with despising over this stupid framework fad from other side.
Ps: It was friday. -
When the CTO/CEO of your "startup" is always AFK and it takes weeks to get anything approved by them (or even secure a meeting with them) and they have almost-exclusive access to production and the admin account for all third party services.
Want to create a new messaging channel? Too bad! What about a new repository for that cool idea you had, or that new microservice you're expected to build. Expect to be blocked for at least a week.
When they also hold themselves solely responsible for security and operations, they've built their own proprietary framework that handles all the authentication, database models and microservice communications.
Speaking of which, there's more than six microservices per developer!
Oh there's a bug or limitation in the framework? Too bad. It's a black box that nobody else in the company can touch. Good luck with the two week lead time on getting anything changed there. Oh and there's no dedicated issue tracker. Have you heard of email?
When the systems and processes in place were designed for "consistency" and "scalability" in mind you can be certain that everything is consistently broken at scale. Each microservice offers:
1. Anemic & non-idempotent CRUD APIs (Can't believe it's not a Database Table™) because the consumer should do all the work.
2. Race Conditions, because transactions are "not portable" (but not to worry, all the code is written as if it were running single threaded on a single machine).
3. Fault Intolerance, just a single failure in a chain of layered microservice calls will leave the requested operation in a partially applied and corrupted state. Ger ready for manual intervention.
4. Completely Redundant Documentation, our web documentation is automatically generated and is always of the form //[FieldName] of the [ObjectName].
5. Happy Path Support, only the intended use cases and fields work, we added a bunch of others because YouAreGoingToNeedIt™ but it won't work when you do need it. The only record of this happy path is the code itself.
Consider this, you're been building a new microservice, you've carefully followed all the unwritten highly specific technical implementation standards enforced by the CTO/CEO (that your aware of). You've decided to write some unit tests, well um.. didn't you know? There's nothing scalable and consistent about running the system locally! That's not built-in to the framework. So just use curl to test your service whilst it is deployed or connected to the development environment. Then you can open a PR and once it has been approved it will be included in the next full deployment (at least a week later).
Most new 'services' feel like the are about one to five days of writing straightforward code followed by weeks to months of integration hell, testing and blocked dependencies.
When confronted/advised about these issues the response from the CTO/CEO
varies:
(A) "yes but it's an edge case, the cloud is highly available and reliable, our software doesn't crash frequently".
(B) "yes, that's why I'm thinking about adding [idempotency] to the framework to address that when I'm not so busy" two weeks go by...
(C) "yes, but we are still doing better than all of our competitors".
(D) "oh, but you can just [highly specific sequence of undocumented steps, that probably won't work when you try it].
(E) "yes, let's setup a meeting to go through this in more detail" *doesn't show up to the meeting*.
(F) "oh, but our customers are really happy with our level of [Documentation]".
Sometimes it can feel like a bit of a cult, as all of the project managers (and some of the developers) see the CTO/CEO as a sort of 'programming god' because they are never blocked on anything they work on, they're able to bypass all the limitations and obstacles they've placed in front of the 'ordinary' developers.
There's been several instances where the CTO/CEO will suddenly make widespread changes to the codebase (to enforce some 'standard') without having to go through the same review process as everybody else, these changes will usually break something like the automatic build process or something in the dev environment and its up to the developers to pick up the pieces. I think developers find it intimidating to identify issues in the CTO/CEO's code because it's implicitly defined due to their status as the "gold standard".
It's certainly frustrating but I hope this story serves as a bit of a foil to those who wish they had a more technical CTO/CEO in their organisation. Does anybody else have a similar experience or is this situation an absolute one of a kind?2 -
I started my degree project with PySide. After a few weeks I read that PySide would cease to exist (or at least wouldn't receive Qt5 support). At that point I was already to far in the project to change the underlying framework.
I hoped to continue developing that project, but because I was already working with deprecated technology after quite literally only a few weeks, I lost interest because I didn't want to start from scratch again. -
What does Linux and web development have in common. New distros and framework popping up everyday.
What is wrong with people, creating distros and web framework for dumb reason. When they can contribute to to existing distro/framework to make it better.8 -
"Mobile optimized" themes, templates, websites etc that are looking completely broken on an actual mobile device are fucking ironic, especially those "css framework" websites.
-
Admitting a few things: I found myself ranting multiple times about multiple programming languages and how it's their fault things didn't go my way, I'd like to take the time to admit that I was wrong, not understanding the language was because of my lack of experience with it and patience to understand. So here's my two cents : if you're ranting about a programming language/ framework being bad, you're probably inexperienced and don't know how to use it right. I was retarded for blaming languages such as php and using typescript as being bad even though I was clearly inexperienced with them, sometimes I see a bunch of retards bashing great languages and libraries such as bootstrap, bitch if you can't manage to understand how to copy paste some css classes then you will probably never be able to write css and should consider working as truck driver. It's been a month now in my new company and my skill level has increased exponentially, we are almost ready to launch our app and I have in someway become super excited about learning new tech.5
-
- And also today I completed my to-do list
- Did you carry all the tasks out?
- No, just a new JS framework -
Just learnt Vue js. Now I need to learn a backend framework. Django or Node js? Which one should I learn?8

Am I the only one who thinks cmd is better than powershell?
P.S. I do not use windows as my daily OS either, just on College pc.3 -
I just created a new file in Android Studio called Auth.js and then wondered why I have a folder Auth with a file js.java inside.
Sometimes I forget what framework I'm in. -
FUCK MY MOTHERFUCKING LIFE! FOR GOOD THIS TIME!
I worked about 6 hours straight today to get SSL up and running, so you can include your own certs in my framework. This worked without any problem in Netty. Even forcing SSL was without any problem.
And then I tried to fucking show an image and this motherfucker won't load. I tried to copy code examples from fucking any source I could. As I gave up I tried to comment out a Netty decoder.... AND IT FUCKING WORKED!
FUCK YOU NETTY DOCUMENTATION!!!
FUCK NETTY, LONG LIVE NETTY!7 -
Hello guys, some JS developer can give me feedback of this framework I made? I would appreciate it a lot!
https://github.com/Leoocast/Prakma8 -
I spent half a month shifting my code base from express to you in view of better performance and what not.
I made a bad decision. I've wasted so much time.3 -
Dev: Now that I finally know PHP and JS it must be really easy to find a good framework and use to build my beautiful website.
The options are limited: AngularJS, ReactJS, Ember, ActivateJS, BackboneJS, ExpressJS, Laravel, RactiveJS, Node.JS, Meteor, Knockout, Symphony, Codeignitor
And yes, you thought if you don't like AngularJS you can easily switch to ReactJS. But guess what, every framework will use their own scripting languages like Jade, Blade, Typescript making it learning something new extremely smooth.
The documentation will be part of another rant3 -
BLAZING FAST
I never see this said with reference to a fucking hardware driver or a shit hot games engine, it's always used to persuade me to use some fucking frontend framework.
It's JS, running in a browser, polishing the turd of the clapped-out DOM - I don't EXPECT it to be fast. I just don't want it to go completely to fuck straight away. The bar is so low that the core of the Earth is melting it.3 -
I am supposed to conduct an Angular2 workshop for my juniors. Just found out that their subjects had changed and they don't know HTML or js, only C.
Why do they do it? How am I supposed to teach them Typescript,Object oriented,HTML, basic Nodejs, Angular in 4 hrs... -
Me when using an company internal framework which is buggy and doesn't produce any exceptions or something similar

I need a framework that does http and websockets for C++. I have seen many that offer a crap load of stuff like widgets, Json, templates... I only need the protocols!
Do you guys have any experience in this?5 -
Long time reader, first time poster 🙊
2020: I'll complete semesters 2, 3 & 4 out of 6 for my part time MSc computer science while maintaining my current development job.
I want to improve my front end skills and pick up a JavaScript framework as well as getting into Raspberry pi projects to get back in touch with my robotics background prior to development.
Good luck in your own goals everyone!1 -
What's the best nodejs framework for the MEAN stack? I need to do additional things to put TypeScript in node js and express. I have seen nestjs with a good directory structure and also uses TS by default. How about meteor or Koa?
Should I just add TS to my existing node and express? Or use nestjs or some other nodejs framework. What do you suggest?3 -
I once had a heated discussion with another developer over whether AngularJS is backend or frontend. For some reason he believed it's a backend framework.1
-
was working on a project once where we needed a database mapping to some c# code
tasked one of our less experienced guys on it to maybe give him some experience
now I'm assuming most people here who have worked in .NET for a reasonable amount of time know about entity framework, and I did tell the guy about it.
three days after giving him that task he comes up to me smiling and says he's done
great! what did he do? he wrote the database mapping from scratch using hard coded SQL queries using lists to chain queries together in a sea of if-else statements...
let's just say the code broke down and needed last minute fixing when it was time to present it2 -
Hello ranters, I need some help because I want to make a portfolio for my curriculum vitæ and my experiences but I don't know if I should use a framework for this kind of little project.8

A new JavaScript framework you're saying?
I was working on a dashboard website, and when I was deciding what to use (plain JS, Angular...) I've decided to make my own, lightweight routing framework.
It's on GitHub (https://github.com/Kamebase/Kame)
What do you think about it?6 -
Which php framework is worth getting into? Laravel seems to have most market or should I go with CakePHP or even something else? any info is appreciated (how are the docs, is it hard to find solutions, how is the error handler, how hard is it to learn etc), I am sure people around here have used a good amount of them and can tell their rage or good things about it. 😳8

The manager get me a new framework for a project in iOS.
But there is one problem, he unzip the framework in Windows OS, unfortunately in Windows unzip file differently from OS X. the result is a framework very strange, and it doesn't work!
You understand the battle between me and him.5 -

I've been wandering around with a brain itch for the past few days trying to pick an API framework.
I wanted to something fast and async, so I would normally use Go, but it's an interface to a python project, so I had to find a good asynchronous python web server.
Twisted provides async options, but they aren't baked in, and tornado/cyclone/airohttp are written in a weird way for someone coming from flask/Django.
Finally I resolved to use Falcon, because it was built for APIs and async by default, but it was crazy verbose to write. I settled in to write it anyway... But then I found the perfect library. Hug: https://github.com/timothycrosley/....
I can finally think clearly.
Now I can finally write my code... At least until I have to pick a framework for the rewrite of the web app.5 -
Every programmer uses a framework. It's either someone else's standardized, tested, & well documented framework, or its one you start writing just for this project.
-
I'm planning to rewrite two months(part time) worth of work done in android sdk. Wanna go for a hybrid framework. Is this a bad idea? Which framework do you suggest as far as stability is concerned? I don't care about ease of learning, new languages don't bother me2

Shame on you Facebook Developers!
I’m neither messy or anal coder, but whenever I push something to production I make sure to handle all debugger warnings... I don’t think it’s perfectionism, rather good practice, makes important bugs easier to find. ;)
A single Facebook SDK Framework has 70+ unhandled warnings, trivial things, could be fixed in a half day...
I had to use ‘inhibit_all_warnings!’ flag literally for the first time, not to get frustrated every time it gets updated :/
P.S Not to mention I had to change the dependency manager because (with the newest update) they have written themselves out of compatibility with the one I was using... C’mon guys. Not cool. -
Converting all my side projects from C# .Net Framework to C# .Net Core (or Node.js) is a rewarding but long process.7

I have to confess, the first time I saw a framework like bootstrap I hated it because I didn't understood most of the HTML with a lot of tags with classes everywhere. It took me like 3 weeks to learn how to use it right and I made 3 websites from 0 in the process.
One day I read about a framework that uses Material Design rules (which I apply in my electronic projects with rgb screens). Since that moment I started to use it. I love how easy it´s to do a complex thing with a few lines.
For those who are starting with web design, give it a try to these frameworks. They will make your life easier. I was the kind of guy that writes every single line of html, css and javascript by hand.5 -
A Website where the user alterts us about a defect on his printer.
There are predefined categories (things like error messages in the printer display, issues with the prints, issues with paper jams, issues with noise and so on) maybe around 10 to 20 categories.
They decide which fields are shown when the user selects it.
Should I do a Dropdown? List field? Radio buttons?

I started a project to practice and familiarize myself with SQL more and Entity Framework Core and prove how much I’ve learned from reading this book.
It was originally gonna be small program with a small database but over the course of me designing the database I thought of more features I could add. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a project and it feels good to have one.
Right now I’m only messing with SQLite but since the position I want to apply for asks for SQL Server I want to mess with that eventually.5 -
Today's discussion in the videoconference: programming with a framework vs. programming without a framework
At the end the project manager decided to start a new project programming without a framework because he don't know how to program with a framework1 -
Just found that asp.net is more preferable than PHP framework in current trend, can anyone explain to me? Currently using Laravel framework3
-
Pardon the rant; some of it can probably attributed to me, but please indulge me of you could.
I'm tasked with creating a report that pulls data from some sql tables in c#and presents it using javascript. My manager was nice enough to lend me his old sql query, so I run with that using sql connections. Now I find out AFTER I get my sql query string working and retrieving data properly that my manager wanted it done using linq and entity framework, so now I have to start over, a process made only more "fun" by the confusing and unintuitive column names of our sql tables.
Moral of the story: don't take the easy way out.
After I spend some time fixing that up, I have to print out the data using javascript and html, which my manager was kind enough to lend me. Cue me shutting off my brain and thinking that I should have the program open and display this stuff itself. Let me tell you that converting a console application to a Windows form application is not a fun experience, especially when entity framework makes classes named "application" and "form" from your database tables. After finally getting the WebBrowser form to work, I'm hit with a javascript error from the library my manager referenced (he is a programmer himself). I tell him about the error and he just tells me to write the html code to a .html on disk like he did, but never explicitly said he did until just now.
Fixed moral of the story: don't take the easy way out, unless you should.
I should clarify I was given the whole raw sql query and html with some embedded javascript and a reference to chart.js. -
Debugs part of project with a colleague.
Framework I am using across all projects might be problematic on deployment.

This might seem like a déjà vue but is there any tools/services or even infographics that helps in choosing a library/framework depending on the requirements/goals of a project ? (This is mainly for JS but, I'm open to any computer languages)2 -
Fuck you and your new shitty 2018 JavaScript framework built on top of another shit pile of brainfuck libs.

Has anyone heard about Bench and Frappe framework?
It is a very good python, open source framework.
It sets up almost everything for you when you want to start a project.
I found this framework, when I was searching for an open source ERP built on python, since Odoo went commercial. -_-
After searching, I found Frappe framework. It is a small community, but the framework has potential in my opinion.
Just wanted to pinpoint this very good framework.
Now every time I want to start a new project, I do not need to to all the set ups, like database, user authentication, user permission, etc. The framework does it for you.
NOTE: I am not and I do not have any connection with the devs and this company. I am just a user of this framework, and just wanted to suggest to you and take a look.

I finally! managed, after several annoying phone calls and dozens of emails, to convince the client to switch from ZF1 to another framework after spending several hours setting up Zend_Locale, which, as already predicted, didn't work properly.
I've already written a rant about it.
Project size is approx. 200,000 lines of ZF1 code. ZF3 would be a possibility, but I don't know what the guys from Zend will do with it in the future. The community doesn't seem to be that big either.
What framework would you suggest for PHP at the moment?6 -
Anyone tried Fat Free Framework? (PHP)
It's actually really nice, a little bit fiddly, but still nice.3 -
Today I (/ later together with some colleagues) spent almost 4 hours trying to improve a Entity Framework LINQ to SQL query.
The initial problem was, that one of our List API endpoints took longer the more you "page" (besides the long response time it had anyways).
So after
- brainstorming in the team
- brainstorming alone
- hacking around and
- shouting at screens
- googling
we
- got nothing optimized
- got confused about what EF does
- lost the believe in our development skills
So Entity Framework is really a nice thing. But as soon as you look deeper, trying to figure out what it really does between ToList() and "yeah my data arrived" it is just....demonic.3 -
What JS framework you don't like but you were forced to study it due to job requirements? I like vue but there are only few job postings that require it. Most jobs here are angular and react. I know angular now and currently learning react because of job requirement reasons hehe!😄3

Usually I come here to rant but this time I want to appreciate a technology which many programmers loves to hate: the old .NET Framework.
It may not be the most cutting edge or performat technology but it makes dealing with legacy code such a breeze.
I had to work on an old .NET Framework 4.5 project and all I had to do was opening the .sln with Visual Studio and I was ready to go, in the meantime Node.js projects unmaintained for few years easily succumbs to missing packages and breaking changes making maintenance a PITA.2 -

!rant Java web framework?
sorry for the OT, if you are single (novice) web developer and you had to choose your first web java framework, what would you pick?7 -
Currently debugging a project that was written over 4 years ago...
At first all was well in the world, besides the ever present issue off our goddamn legacy framework. This framework was written 7 years ago on top of an existing open source one, because the existing one was 'lacking some features' & 'did not feel right'.
Now those might be perfectly fine reasons to write a layer on top of a framework, but please, for all future devs sanities, write fucking documentation and maintain it if you're going to use said framework in all major projects!!
Anyhow back to the situation at hand, I'm getting familiar with the project, sighing at the use of our stupid legacy framework, attempting to recreate the reported bugs...
Turns out I can't, well I get other bugs & errors, but not the reported ones. I go to the production server, where I suddenly do can reproduce them...
Already thinking, fuck my life, and scared for the results... I try a 'git status' on the production server....
And yep, there it is, lo and behold, fucking changes on production, that are not in git, fuck you previous dev who worked on this and your stupid lazy ass modifcations on production!
Bleh, already feeling royally pissed, there's only 1 thing I can do, push changes back to git in a seperate branch, and pray I can merge them back in master on my dev environment without to much issues...
Only I first have to get our sysadmi. to allow pushing from a production server back to our git server...
Sigh, going to put on my headphones, retreat to my me space and try to sort out this shitpile now... -
Ah, the merry-go-round of frameworks. Can we settle on one for more than a microsecond?
Switching between React, Vue, Angular – it's like code calisthenics for my brain. Just when I've mastered one, bam, the next shiny framework arrives.
Can't I write code without feeling like I'm auditioning for "Dev's Got Talent"?3 -
So I'm in a situation where I have to send a big set of data (from a numerous set of profile), but I can't because the framework used has been thought for sending few data (from an only profile) and then get a timeout.
I should take it as a challenge, a hard one but a challenge. Gonna be funny (and tiring too I guess)1 -
I need to build a REST API in PHP, what framework could you recommend me?
Lumen (https://lumen.laravel.com) looks fast and relatively simple.
has anyone ever used Api Platform? (https://api-platform.com) What are your thoughts on it?9 -
The best thing I made the last year was finally breaking away from my “framework addition”, the belief which compulsively learn anything new and cutting edge and making my curriculum a three page bullet point will eventually pay off in career terms. Now I’m focusing on fundamentals and I’ll learn shiny frameworks or DevOps tech only when needed.2

Opinions
Hello, I’m considering building a web framework.
My ideal features would be:
Customizable authentication system(considering using a jwt lib)
Embedded DB(bolt db)
ORM( writing my own)
REST api to DB (via code generator)
Code generator(generation of models and views via cli)
GUI to db(some admin dashboard)
CORS(web service right?)
Why?
Ease of development
Fast prototyping of small-medium web services.
Fun.
My question is, do i have to many things on my platter? Should i narrow it down into less featured framework? What feature should I focus on? How should i benchmark it? Should i write tests for absolutely everything or just for exported methods? What should i take into consideration when developing ORM API, Auth API...
The language is Go
Thank you for your input10 -
My project setup:
-Entity Framework (Code first)
-Autofac (Dependency Injection)
-Asp.Net MVC C# with service layer pattern.
How is your setup? :)1 -

Any backend devs here working with TypeScript? What are the best framework choices right now? I've been looking at Nest.js, but there seems to be a steep learning curve that might hamper onboarding of my (literally fresh graduate) new hires. There's also Ts.ED, which seems like the fat has been trimmed from it.
I know people will recommend something like, just using express / koa / hapi but I don't think we have the time to work with something super lightweight 😬😬😬. And besides, opinionated frameworks will speed things up for now (we have a lot of crap we want to do this incoming 2022)12 -

Work has set us a challenge to build a rock/paper/scissors/dynamite/waterbomb api. We have the spec for what json is expected incoming and outgoing. We are allowed to implement any way we want and with any language we want. We are considering using Clojure but we have no experience with it, hence we will hopefully be learning as we go. Would you recommend using a framework like Pedestal, Hoplon, Luminus, or just use Leiningren or something else?

I am looking to create a cool little 2D platformer for Android. The thing is I've mostly only worked on utility applications and haven't had to deal much with animations and physics etc. I feel like unity is over the top but I don't really know of any proper alternative. Any fellow Android devs out there who could recommend a library or framework to use that is relatively light weight?5

Soo I finally uploaded my framework for Java Web last week.
It works great except for forwarding POST requests but meh, I'll fix it later.
Currently it only works for newer Minecraft Spigot version's and BungeeCord, because fucking netty is a piece of shit and Apache commons also... But I'll release a standalone version hopefully next month (maybe even next weekend).
And on the website from Spigot where you can find the link to my GitHub, there were two dicks which tried to steal my code and complained about my obfuscation... The didn't even fucking tried the plugin and gave me 1 star... Fucking pieces of shit fuck...
Anyway: here is the link!

Don't know if this was or will be a weekly question, but anyone have any good stories on how your opinion of a language/framework/application/etc. changed dramatically? - Uses modern JS(if any) under the hood
- Covers well localization and globalization practices

Halp meh, plz... I have run across a problem and I have absolutely no idea how to go about solving it...
So basically I need to decrypt a TDES encrypted Azure service bus message. Can be done in a straightforward manner in .NET Framework solution with just your regular old System.Security.Cryptography namespace methods. As per MSDN docs you'd expect it to work in a .NET Core solution as well... No, no it doesn't. Getting an exception "Padding is invalid and cannot be removed". Narrowed the cause down to just something weird and undocumented happening due to Framework <> Core....
And before someone says 'just use .NET Framework then', let me clarify that it's not a possibility. While in production it could be viable, I'm not developing on a Windows machine...
How do I go about solving this issue? Any tips and pointers?10 -
When you need that one feature from a framework, that it just not have. So you have to use a custom version till your PR has been accepted.
I see a possible problematic future... -
I started off on a go project last week, and I feel like I connect with go a lot. It reminds me of c++ and python at the same time! I was in a java project before this, with the spring framework, and I feel like I was intimidated by it! I don't know if that's what makes me feel so much better about go.. And to top it off, there is no "framework" as such that the project uses. It's really interesting! I have already learn't a lot, I look forward to learning more.1

I was looking at 2019 stateofjs survey. I'm really surprised with all this hate towards Angular. I've been using Angular for past 3 years now, and apart from the mess with versions, I think it's the most complete and beautiful framework out there.
