This is a question with a bit of backstory. Bear with me.
Firstly, i’m back (again😂) now pursuing my software engineer goal at a university.
I had a group project course this spring and me and my group produced a kinda half assed product that could help within sports teams, for a customer at the university (won’t go into details). After the course ended I couldn’t go home to northern Sweden and stayed in my student accomodation for the summer. So I took the chance and offered myself to continue work on the product this summer to make it more usable and functionable, and they hired me (first real devjob!🥰)! Now when I look into the parts of the code that I did not write (our team communcation were bad), I realize I don’t understand fully how it works and therefore feel it’s better for me (also to learn more) to rewrite some parts my old group produced, and to actually make it easier to improve. Now finally the question; how do you feel about taking on a product, scraping some parts to rewrite them, and (in your perspective), improve them?4 -
I'm BACK! (Just haven't used DR in a looong time cuz I had other jobs and kinda forgot about it).
But now I am back and recently got hired as the IT-support guy for some health centers. The best part is that they had some old systems that needed updating so here I am trying to wrap my head around PHP before throwing myself in someone elses code, someone got any tips for learning PHP?5 -
Actually getting started and learning to plan for a project is also important. Making a portfolio-website for myself with basic web tech and Firebase. Wish me luck! :D2

Took out both my girlfriend and my stressball for food, the poor ball must've starved on it's way to me!😱
Thanks DevRant Team for the stressball!😄17 -
...
Person me = new Person();
me.setAge(20);
int newAge = me.getAge();
System.out.println("Happy birthday! " +me.getName+ "You are now " newAge+ " years old!");
Happy birthday to me!😎🎊🎉🍻
(Probably stupid code 😂)10 -
A little summarised story for ya:
>Makes a rant
>Gets over 200 rants and rising
>Steady rise of increments over weeks
>Gets to 283 increments (hope of getting to 300 for a stressball)
>Updates app
>Literal update log:
"Stressball limit is now 500"
>Cries in a corner10 -
Ruby and its "simplicity" hurts me... Tried to make a if-statement checking if user is signed in... Well logic would say it's "if (user != signed_in)" right? Well logic don't apply in Ruby, in this realm you do "if (user_signed_in?)". As a logic programmer this bugs me...
Anyone relating?4 -
I don't know If I should blame Gradle and the Android emulator for my computer freezing (cuz out of memory), or I should blame myself for not having a powerfull enough comouter?12

*Furiously cracks fingers and starts typing*
When I first tried out mobile app development some weeks ago I found it pretty fun. Now when I have a internship with a company to create a Android app I was kind of excited. Now after just a week I don't think I will come back to Android development again. Android studio eats my RAM and made my computer hang itself, and the thing I despise the most is gradle! AS f**ks with my gradle also so now they are all gone and i'm trying to rewrite them by myself...
*Furiously tries to calm down*10 -
Kind of had my first SCRUM-meeting couple hours ago. I'm a student and have a internship at a company. It felt so dull since me and my two team-members stood there and listened to three others talking about their project that we have nothing to do with. Then we got to say what we made yesterday and so on. Hopefully this is all in educational purpose?1

Once when I starter school, I was on the toilet and i forgot to lock my computer. Our class's mentor/teacher took a screenshot of my desktop and put it as a wallpaper and removed the desktop icon. I actually thought something was broken...

To all my fellow developers, hackers and programmers. Can't we all come together to agree that... Finally pushing that big update you have been working and struggling on for so long... is one of the most satisfying feelings ever! <3 -
Found this at a local busstop the other day. It was supposed to display timetables for when busses arrive. Well at least I know why it probably crashed... It's Windows😂😎3

Even tho my Linux distro is fine and dandy (Linux Mint) I think it's kind of haunting me sometimes. Sometimes it crashes and asks me if I want to restart Cinnamon, but the most weird thing must have been when it changed my desktop background by it self. I saw in the corner of my eye (I use two screens) on the other screen how it switched to 'default' desktop wallpaper. Squinted my eyes and whispered 'What the f*ck...'6

Why is Ruby on Rails such pain in the ass on Windows? A college of mine uses Windows for our project, since I use Linux I rarely get any errors :)2

This was really strange. I had a dream that devRant was flooded with ALOT of things that was faaaar away associated with programming and being a developer.
..Now when I think of it it was more of a nightmare.1 -
I don't get annoyed so easily I think.. but when it comes to HTML... why the f*** do the comments have to look like something the cat just shat out?? Why doesn't it support one-line comment?? It's such a struggle to type...1

The feeling of finally understanding and feeling you have learned something new.
To all those still stuggling with something they don't understand... Keep on going and let it take some time, you will solve it, I know it!💪🏻1
