Story time!
This is “Güero” (Blondie), the only cat I know who can use a computer.
I was at university. I couldn’t take my laptop to class because it was too huge, so I had to use remote connection.
One day, I connected to my laptop from the library, and everything was ok except that I couldn’t move the mouse! 😱 It was like somebody on the other side was using the mousepad. There was nobody in my house, just Blondie.
My solution? I called to my house. The cat heard the ring and left my laptop. It sounds stupid but, believe it or not, it worked! 😂

So my actual job is being a nurse at the local hospital, with coding being just a hobby. However, the way some IT–Related things are treated here are just mind-blowing. Here are some examples:
Issue: Printer is not recognized by network anymore due to not being properly plugged in
Solution: Someone has to tell the house technician, if the house technician is currently not available, ask his assistant who only works part time and like twice a week. House technician took the printer (God knows why), came back 2 days later and plugged it back in.
Issue: Printer 1 of 2 on ICU has run out of ink and since all computers default to printer 1, nobody can print.
Solution: Call the house technician, blah blah, house technician comes, takes ink cartridge of printer 2 and puts it into printer 1.
Issue: Public WiFi is broken, can be connected to but internet access is missing. Probably config issue as a result of a recent blackout.
Solution: Buy a new router, spend 5 days configuring it and complain about how hard networking is.
Issue: Computer is broken, needs to be exchanged with a new one, but how do we transfer the data?
Solution: Instead of just keeping the old hard drive, make a 182GB backup, upload it to the main file server and then download it again on the new computer.
Issue: Nurse returns from vacation, forgot the password to her network account.
Solution: Call the technician who then proceeds to open a new account, copies all the files from the old one and tells her to pick an easier password this time. She chooses "121213".12 -

- House smells like an Italian kitchen 😂6 -

What is a pointer?
A descriptive and ELI5 answer found on Reddit:
You have a house.
When you’re outside, and you want to go home, you don’t make another house right where you are, because it’s too big for you to carry around or take apart.
So you carry a piece of paper or store on your phone the address of your house. Now you always know exactly how to find your house so that you can go home.
The piece of paper or your phone is a variable.
The variable contains an address (a reference) to your house.
You can make a copy of this piece of paper and hand it out to your friends when you invite them over, instead of building each friend a copy of your house.
You can have an address book filled with pages, where each page is an address (i.e., an array of pointers). Each page you turn (each index you increment) goes to the directly next address-containing variable.
Now if you cut the address book in half along its height, and then attach the lower half behind the upper half, then you have a book with smaller pages but more pages.
You can store phone numbers in this, and even if it’s the same total size, you have double the number of pages and double the number of phone numbers (if you store one number on each page).
Now, since the pointers to home-addresses are different from pointers to phone-numbers, turning the page in an address book (increment pointer by 1) moves forward by one address.
But turning the page in the phone book (incrementing pointer by 1) leads you to the next phone number, even if you technically turned only “half a page”.
That’s how pointer arithmetic works.

So, the house next door to me is being renovated into half a dozen apartments. This process has been ongoing for like 4 years of here-and-there houseflipper failboating, and if I had to guess, 3 owners worth of this fuckery.
The latest shitheel trying to polish this turd into something saleable has had it sit partially covered with plastic for months, mostly getting rained on. One crew came by last week and put half the thermal shielding up before something happened and they left. Then half of it fell off the house, into my yard. Nice person that I am I gathered it all up and left it in the various excavated pools of water on their property in which I can only imagine they are busily raising farm to table mosquitoes for the local market.
FF to today and I see a crew pull up to the house and start nailing plywood to the side of the house with no thermal pad underneath it. Which is a legit code violation and a mold hazard, but yolo amirite? I chat up some of the guys and find out that they were scheduled to install the plywood today (apparently he'd run out of money for the nice modular siding they used on the back half) and the owner didn't give a shit if the rest of the work was done. Meanwhile shit is still falling off the house onto my house, but also wgaf. 🚬
Tl;Dr the people trying to flip the house next to mine were obviously IT managers in a previous life.6 -

if there's one thing I love more than coding, it's using metaphors to explain to other people why they're not "getting it". like the all famous contractor:

any more good metaphors out there?4 -

CEO: Oh. Ok. I get it. When I was a kid, my father and I had some serious dust allergies. The house maid had to clean everything thoroughly at least once a week.
Not surprised...10 -
Dear client:
You have to think this is like building a house, so you have to spend time doing some serious thinking, so you come up with a (somewhat) good vision of what you want and what could possible change in the future... let me give you an example: let's say we were building a house and we are very close to finishing it, so you come up with the great idea of putting the kitchen where the living room is, and the bathroom in the second floor where the TV room was... if that happens, then I would tell you to go fuck yourself.
See dear client... there are pipes, wiring, and all sorts of stuff you don't see, that makes a house be a house... apply the same logic to building software and we'll be on the same page more often.
PS: I appreciate your business2 -
Trying to buy a house in another state. First time moving out of state, first time trying to buy a house. Making first offer this weekend. Which is terrifying, and exciting. Continued from previous post.
The man with hoodie walked down a dark alley. At distance, a house which looked haunted stood. As he entered the house he sighed a relief. Once inside, he descends to the basement where an old computer sat. He turned on the computer and smiled. The screen showed a prompt. With fews keystrokes, a series of scripts begin to execute. Finally at the bottom, a text blinked.
"Awaiting Connection........"
The CPU was recovered from rubble and brought to General's office as per his order. It was connected to a power source and it started to boot. A prompt showed up. A man in suit, suggested perhaps it expected a login. The General sat on his chair smoking a cigar thinking on what action must be taken next.
While men in suit discussed about the CPU, someone plugged in a LAN cable. The General who was lost in thought, saw this from corner of his. A moment passed. General sprang from his chair, hurling his cigar to the floor. As men in suits, looked at the General's display of athletic behavior they sensed the tension. Everyone turned to the CPU now connected to LAN now.
Far way, the screen on hooded man computer showed. "Connected".
A series of scripts started to execute.
Cold wind was all that could be heard out side the General's office building and the house, where hooded man sat in the dark.1 -

1. Got a call from a client saying their site presented an issue with a third-party add-on. The vendor asked us to grant him access to our staging copy.
2. Their staging copy, apparently, never got duplicated correctly because, for security reasons, their in-house dev changed the name of the wp-content folder. That broke their staging algo. So no staging site.
3. In order to recreate the staging site, we had to reset everything back to WP defaults. Including, for some reason, absolute paths inside the database. A huge fucking database. Because WordPress.
4. Made the changes directly in a downloaded sql file. Shared hosting, obviously, had an upload limit smaller to the actual database.
5. Spent half an hour trying to upload table by table to no avail.
6. In-house uploads a new, fixed database with the help of the shared hosting provider.
7. Database has the wrong path. Again.
8. In-house performs massive Find and Replace through phpMyAdmin on the production server.
9. Obviously, MySQL crashes instantly and the site gets blocked for over 3 hours for exceeding shared hosting limits.
10. Hosting provider refuses to accept this was caused by such a stupid act and says site needs to be checked because queries are too slow.
11. We are gouging our eyeballs as we see an in-house vs. hosting fight unfold. So we decide to watch a whole Netflix documentary in between.
12. Finally, the hosting folds and enables access to the site, which is obvi not working because, you know, wrong paths.
13. Documentary finishes. We log in again, click restore from backup. Go to bed. Client phones to bless us. Client’s in-house dev probably looking for a cardboard box to pack his stuff first thing in the morning. \_(ツ)_/¯ -
I've converted an empty bedroom in my house into an office and close the door when i code. when i finally leave my dungeon, my dogs are always laying down in front of the door, tails all a'waggin.2

Leave the house for 30 fucking minutes and the courier attempts to deliver my new notebook just then---after four days in transit. And, of course, they don't deliver at the weekend.
I swear the guy was camped outside my house waiting to fuck me over.1 -
*tentatively watching movie*
Some family standing in front of a house.
Kid asks: dad, what is this?
Dad: homepage
Me: ??
It took me way to long to realize that the kids name is Paige and the place is their new house. I hate it when that happens.1 -
You wouldn’t think that finding a home that actually had internet service would be the hardest part of house shopping in 2018...
Satellite internet does not count as internet. Also my statements apply to the US market only. Idk how bad this is in other countries.4 -
Been waiting for my new computer to come in the mail for a week only to find out that Amazon sent it to my old house all the way in utah (i live in georgia now). My life is over goodbye🙂2
-
My 15 year old son witnessed our two male dogs licking each other's privates. My son, in some sort of shock, starts walking around the house saying "My dog is a homo sex you awl!" repeatedly (emphasis on how the syllables sounded).
I stopped him and said, "We need to talk about the birds and the birds."4 -
Uni shut down.
Lol.
So, what's my plan for this unplanned in-house vacation, you ask? Idk. Probably just staying in bed. Maybe bother with finishing all the damn annoying books I've left unread. Yay.
Also, FYI, about 99 years before covid19 broke out, the Spanish flu wiped out millions. We'll be fine. Lol.5 -
How to clear the lunch of developers: Shout as loud as you can from the office that ZEPTO is loose on the network drives and watch everyone scramble to their computer.
Actually happened at work today, somehow the boss let it in. To top it off, we had customers in the house that watched the whole thing happen.
It wasn't pretty.1 -
My husband is getting tired of the number of blankets in our house.
This one is heavily inspired by a Displate I keep getting advertised on Insta.7 -
there is nothing more annoying than plugging the usb cable to the real android device for debugging, but if you move that cable 1mm the whole fucking connection breaks, the beep sounds of connected/disconnected phone rings, the fucking laptop explodes, phone explodes, dick explodes, the house gets on fire, my dog gets on fire, i run out of house while burning in flames alive and the whole house fuckin explodes like a nuclear bomb2
-
The foul excuse for a human I live with has been blasting the fucking radio ALL FUCKING NIGHT.
I've had no sleep, he's STILL pissed out his head, and if he doesn't shut the fuck up I'm going to lock him in and burn the house down.6 -

I just had one guy coming back to the house at 4am, again, and he made his usual grand entrance, slamming the doors, stomping on the wooden floor making all the creaking sound as he walk all the way to his room, which is right beside mine. And when he went into the bathroom, which is on the other side of my room, he slammed he motherfucking lid on the toilet bowl which was so fucking loud I literally jumped out of bed. I ended up not being able to sleep (I have a lot of trouble falling asleep), and when I tried to sleep in the afternoon to catch up on the missed winks, another motherfucking bastard started blasting fucking hardcore electronics in the living room which is right below my room. The same bastard also plays loud movies or music at 2-3am. I’ve told that bastard that comes home late to watch his noise but man he only minds the noises I told him and nothing else. As for the other fucker, he’ll say he’d keep it down but continues doing what he’s doing anyway.
I moved here cause I know that it’s usually a quiet place and away from the party kids, but I somehow ended up with a party kid and an insensitive fucker (This motherfucker had the loudest sigh of frustration when I knocked politely on his door last night. Yes I calmed down before I talked to him, but ended up deciding to not utter a word at all when I hear that sigh).
I should move out, but I can’t find a place before next term cause it’s way too late at this point. I am on a lease, but my landlord understands my situation, and he seems okay with breaking the contract.
Having been here as an international student for almost 2 years now, and having moved 5 times, this has been the worst nightmare of a bunch of people to stay with.
For those that has read of me ranting about this elsewhere, yes it’s that same fucking bunch that doesn’t clean the house.9 -
Have you heard about Stugan? A cool project in Sweden where game developers spend the summer in Stugan (a small Swedish house) and Work on their projects.
Stugan is named after the famous Swedish adventure game "Stugan"and means the small house om just the house.
Check it out at:

Deadline in 24 work hours, for a in-house product to automate payment processing.
Why in 24 hours you say? , Me and the accounting guy is going on vacation on Friday.
Will it go into production on Friday evening while I'm going through the door?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯5 -
Client had this great idea for a business where he would kennel dogs at his house and have a premium upgrade to the service where he would sell dog treats and other items as well as have a private members only area where they could view their dog.
My first question was "Is there any demand from your customers for such things and what type of budget do you have?"
His response was "I don't have much of a budget but I can give you some hockey tickets and give you a stake in the profit."
I politely declined. He didn't even have any cameras in his house to pull off such a thing, either let alone he didn't have a boarding license. Oh clients.3 -
Sometime in the near future…
"Hey Joe, how's the new robot working out?"
"Oh it's great, except that we have no more shampoo in the house."
"…"
"Yeah, apparently it got its hands on a bottle and infinite-looped on Lather, Rinse, Repeat." -
Just been watching some police soap on YT with "real police officers in action". Haha, yeah.
Huh, what's that outside, flashing blue light? Oh, a police car. No, two. Three. Actually, four. All of the guys rush into the neighbour house, WTF. Real police officers in action. -
My school is yet to decide what form of online schooling we'll use, but I've prepared in case it'll be live video conferences. ( I can freeze my webcam and I fixed my BT headphones, so I can do stuff during classes and reply from anywhere in the house in case I'm posed a question. )1

man, fuck php.
fuck fucking php fuckitily fucking hard.
basically every fuckin stdlib function it has is fucked in some way.
can't even remember it anymore properly, but...
for example:
explode(" ", "some string like this ");
function to "split a string into array of strings using the first param as the boundary marker.
the above one would return
["some", "string", "like", "this", ""]
BECAUSE I'M FUCKING FUCKITTY SURE THAT WHEN THE LAST CHARACTERS OF THE STRING ARE EQUAL TO THE SEPARATOR STRING, EVERYONE WANTS TO GET BACK ONE EXTRA FUCKING USELESS EMPTY ITEM IN THE ARRAY.
because beyond the last wall of my house, there's another room of my house, you stupid Lerdorf fuck.28 -
Time check 12:21AM in Philippines. Someone is knocking on our house. Suprisingly received a swag from #devrant. Thank you guys!3

As a student, I live in a house with friends and the actual didn't have a table in my room.
So after one month waiting for a answer of the owner I decided to buy one in second hand. All I can say is that I love it.
Any suggestions to some improvements?
PS: external drive is only temporary8 -
Tis was the night before Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!2 -
I quietly refactored an entire NodeJS express in-house framework that was written in Java style (dependency injection, inheritance, inversion of control) and split it into typed, composable, parameterized, testable middlewares in 2 weeks (including some complicated ones like a custom Openid Connect flow)
Now comes the hard part: convincing the Java-devs who wrote it that it is useful3 -
I'm sorry to say this, but C# along with other Microsoft tech stack is a crap show!!
*And now I'll be bombarded by all Microsoft fans in the house!!*16 -
The business is prioritizing error reporting for issues we are aware of over actually fixing the bugs. Isn't that kind of like installing smoke detectors in a house that's already on fire instead of calling the fire department?1

Just realised I've been looking for an x86 based laptop to install Linux on just for around the house...
Been looking at buying a brand new one and only now just remembered I have an old 2009 MBP...
Let's break out the elementary OS USB and breathe some life in this baby!1 -
With all the rubber ducks and coding companions being thrown around in the rants I'm thinking about getting one myself... I don't think I can talk about code to my house mates (both non devs, they would just stare at me and get bored quickly) and not having something physical to talk to feels weird1
-
ah yes, the usual family get-together: my grandma's throwing heavy shit with intent to kill, my sister is violently crying in a corner and refuses to move to safety, and my dad's shut down in a chair somewhere in the house. Just like every Christmas. And Thanksgiving. And Halloween. And every other large holiday.
Surprised I made it to 19.3 -
Making the decision to leave a large, safe corporation that I'd been at for 10 years, but going no where, for a small independent software house was extremely difficult. But now I feel like I make a difference and not just a cog in a machine.1

Setting up an FTP & Plex server for our house.

I just realized something. So my company's whole release process and code management now run on mainstream tech products: Atlassian, Jetbrains, IBM and not in house/vendor crap1

I am not a php dev but I really like the following statement:
In the software industry you can compare a pre-built house to a general purpose framework. Building software using general purpose frameworks doesn’t make you a coder or a programmer any more than putting together a pre-built house makes you a carpenter.14 -
!rant after over 2 years of fighting, I'm finally rid of my cheating-ex in finances today.
My House and life is finally my own again. -
How must it feel to build pagination for the partner list in a cookie consent popup? Did the dev realize that they and their company are the primary reason for the GDPR? That they are the ultimate bad guys of online privacy, even worse than accumulators like Google who process their data in-house?

I am working more effectively nowadays from home rather than from office.
At office, I end up spending most time in eating, playing table tennis and meetings.
The only thing I am missing at my house is my 2 big 27" 4k office monitors. -

Last night I found two Athlon XP processors in my house. They're a 2400 and a 2700, but I don't know if they work because I don't have other parts to test them.
Nothing too interesting, I just thought it was kinda cool7 -
Anyone else get shit from their other half for working at home in the evenings/weekends sometimes? To make money to pay off the house? To save for our future? To finance their shopping hobby? Because I ruddy enjoy it!!!1

Dear Microsoft: I don't care if Edge or any other of your in-house developed software is faster than the alternatives, it's about quality not speed.
If you design quality products people will use them, just because they are "faster" doesn't mean shit.5 -
I've had a lot of jobs, and they've all employed some form of single sign-on. But all of them have required enough individual logins for various services that I had to maintain a full category for that employer in my keepass. Until now.
This company has, by far, the most comprehensive SSO I have ever seen. Perhaps it should not be surprising that it works so well, as it is 100% made in-house. But for a company of this size, that's an amazing achievement. It speaks to excellent planning, it seems to me.
Anybody else ever worked for a large company that had a truly unified SSO?2 -
Had a fun adventure this morning. Had to deliver some bags to some houses. Entered the addresses in Google Maps. Off we go. First house, no problem. Second house, and Google is taking me on a weird route, through some parking lots and stuff. Finally, it wants me to turn onto a bike trail. WTF? My Google maps is set for bike routes. Went a lot faster when I set it to car. No wonder there were so many bikes and the road seemed so narrow.1

I can’t code without dead silence. I cannot concentrate on coding whatsoever unless there is dead silence in my house which leads me to usually coding in the middle of the night so I don’t hear people. Then I lose sleep and I lose my health. Anyone else?6

Legacy code was so bad that it created the existence of my team to do a refactor and rewrite.

Used to work salary and in-house for client but now do freelance for them ‘cause ‘rona.
Adobe CC and Font Suitcase licenses are due for renewal and they want to cancel them for all but essential in-house senior staff.
I tell them I have both at home, on my own dime, but I need their font folder to be able to use them.
So I have 12,000 fonts now.1 -
Earlier today I spend 3 hours that included a nap and cleaning the house to try to clear my head and figure out why my Unity multiplayer code wasn't translating properly to local. Turns out a certain function has no problem existing in update in multiplayer but wants to be in fixedupdate in local... Productive day.

Backstory: my father used to work in software development and IT support in companies with medium to large sized networks. I decided to catch up with him a few weeks ago and he asked me thus almighty question
"So if I installed another router in our house, does that mean I can double the amount of traffic going from my computer to the fibre modem?"
All respect has been lost, I was ashamed.3 -
It got so hot in the house today my grandmother's ceiling fan melted inside. It gets up to 350°F when it's spinning now and fucking SCREAMS.
Here are the charred-ass screws we pulled out.7 -
So I'm getting brought into a team for our backend services of our administration application, and they're explicitly using Flask (Python library) for their exposed API in their application and data tiers.
As I'm familiarizing myself with their code, utilities, and dependencies, I notice they're stacking 7-8 decorators on their routes from their in-house utility module.. After further investigation, I realized half of them were entirely unnecessary, and they were proofing payload responses three times for the same JSON format.
The fact that we're using Python instead of Node or GoLang for our REST services is pain enough, but these god damn in house utilities are killing me.1 -
A house with an elevator that is just wide enough for one person standing sideways, and it can also travel horizontally between houses. Also, near an entrance, there is an orchestra pit, but it's filled with expired smoked meat. There is also a garbage chute, but it's just a well right in the middle of the house between staircases. It also has bars and mesh instead of walls, so everyone can smell everything. It can only be emptied from the roof.6

The house is quiet...
I work from home most every day. Then came COVID.
Working from home went from a wonderful experience to god awful most days.
It worked like root's rant:
https://devrant.com/rants/2957491/...
So today for the first time in what seems like years (but really just a few months) I'm working from home and everyone is out of the house.
It will only happen a few days a week.... but oh man it is nice ....1 -

After 6 hours I become super distracted... I am slowly getting back to normal but recently I got so distracted I decided to play a breve game and which one better than half life alyx?
Well, if you have a vr headset play it: I swear I spent 2 hours just fucking around and looking at the environment... in one scene you enter a house and I went full detective trying to understand why the house was messed up: picked up stuff, looked in the corners and so on... it really gives you an impression of what vr could be4 -
I'm doing my Postgrad in I.T with a specialty in Application development. I've honestly lost interest in software development. I no longer have that *thing* I used to have, I've honestly completely lost interest. I decided to accept I really nice paying Technical Support Analyst position. It's very close to my house and I can work from home.4

I know I shouldn't do this, but I'm so frickin bored I end up resuming tasks from work here at my parents' house, in my old bedroom.
Anyway, merry christmas and happy holidays! -
Interesting project lined up for today!
I'll be installing a security system, one camera connected to a DVR pointing at a front door triggering a buzzer and sending a video feed to a monitor in a ground floor room at the other side of the house.
But it's my dads house so I'm going to have fun with it and install a wired Cat5 network an Isolated offline router and build in some "smart home" features from scratch, all running on a Local Area Network.
I've built a private home server package for media and storage using Apache and I want to add as many features to the house as I can, maybe even install an extra camera pointing towards the sky (every home should have a sky cam lol).
I can take my time with this project over the next several weeks and I was wondering what would you add to this project?10 -
My first internship was at a small startup in Belgium, we were 5 including me. Most of the time, we would all go to my boss's house for dinner and play rocket league then go back to work.

Proof i typically underestimate my own self: I just remembered building a browser In Visual Basic in middle school, in a day at my friends house…. How the hell did I do that?? My in-house "office". A normal room, but with 2 desks. One for my monitors + laptop and the other one for other electronic stuff. It's a very quiet room :)

!rant Just letting it out !
From my childhood days I never used to make it a habit to remember our house address as we used to change it often.
My father was the eldest in our family and he took care of his siblings. One younger brother got a nice job and was financially sound to own a house, and we were still a joint family for some time. After a year or so my father was insulted and he moved out in a fit of rage and for ~20 years we have hopped around from one place to another.
This week I will be moving in to my new house along with my parents. Hope I will remember this address forever. -
I'm at my limits with working from home. It started off really cool, but for a multitude of reasons I just need to get out of my house. I'm seriously considering renting a work space to at least go to part time. If anyone in the Denver area wants to go in on one, or is looking to rent out space, please let me know.3

Probably playing World of Warcraft and Overwatch with my wife and collecting everything related to it. We even got the music playing in our house most of the day :')3

let's call him Richie. Richie doesn't listen in team meetings, does not have any clue of what we are doing and what the important topics are. Richi is hiding between the cars in the parking house to not have to talk to you on the 2min way to the office. Richie is 'done' when he encounters any problems in his work so we have to do it. Yeah, we all love Richie...3

I wanted to continue working on my project at my grandparents house, using my laptop.

I was updating and using the library locally and now I have a dependency on ../library name. Great job me3 -

Oh god that feeling when you get a complicated process to work the way you want it too. It is especially good due to the fact that it has been a psychological barrier in this project for a while.
I may walked around the house fist bumping the roof for a bit. -
Today I started tearing off some parts of the external wall of an old abandoned wooden house, built either in 1860s or 1930s. Surprisingly, the HTML is still very solid, except for the parts it was supposed to rot.
My project is on!!!
While it would be freaking cool to live in a renovated and modernised 150+y old house, a nearly 100y old house is still good enough!
I already imagine myself WFH there...3 -
When you come across the generated script of a H5 banner from client's production house, you are tempted to rewrite the whole thing instead of fixing the bug.
If you really decided to fix it, in the end you found out you spent nearly 100x more time on this piece of shit, and that makes you feel really bad.1 -
I saw through times when having a computer at home was considered luxury.
I saw the days when there was no cellphones and only landline phones; One per house.
I saw the days when the internet was a thing that was only used to check emails; In browsing centres and offices.
Wait. All these in less than 2 decades!!
I feel ancient :(1 -
if you asked me what I'd be doing at whatever age i'm at right now, i'd have said i would likely have had a g/f, a house, and been settled down late in my career.

came into my house at 3:00 am (i was fucking my whore ex blonde gf). saw a fucking thief break into my house and steal my shit. when he saw me he ran like the biggest fucking pussy. i was screaming and chasing the fucker. but he jumped over the fence like an asshole and broke his back. but got up and ran away
i couldnt identify him. couldn't see his face cause he was turned around and wearing a black cap. black sports clothes. short fade hair or bald. probably a fucking skinhead robbing people to buy drugs
he stole my dad's phone, his wireless earbuds, mom's medical documents and fucking cups! who the fuck steals cups??? what a fucking retard!
he couldn't steal more cause it seems like i entered the house minutes after he broke in

I don't like this. Crappy in-house software is my department. And I won't use F***** Excel for it either2 -
Felt a knot in my shoulder while training BJJ. It slowly got worse and had to stop training.
By the next day it feels like my back is out but in my neck. It's miserable.
I was supposed to do work around the house but that isn't happening now for sure.6 -
Any cool Dev setups? I have already seen /r/cableporn and /r/battlestation. I am moving house in March and decided to rebuild my setup, new desk more monitors etc. Want to see some Dev examples.1

Why do I want to use in-house "products" when I could go third party.
I feel like when I build in-house I want a bespoke solution that's easy for MY use case. trying to "productize" it for internal teams is counter productive3 -

What tools do you use for project file generation & similar automation?
Things like CRUD generation, for both front/backend?
Are there any open-sourced or enterprise tools, or do you have in house developed generators?
Any feedback appreciated!2 -
In your opinion, is it better to work in a dedicated development company (or otherwise dedicated to your IT specialization) or be in-house?
I'm currently one of 2 in-house devs for a small enterprise. So my software engineering practices and code won't be of the highest quality but at this early stage of my career I'm gaining experience in various different aspects of the job and doing many individual different things. So overall I'd say being in-house is good early on for initial exposure, so long as you have a mentor to help you out. -
All the iOS devs in the house, is it just me or has the latest Xcode beta taken lots of steps back in terms of stability?1

Monolithic (compiled to native executable) 20MB application for internal purposes only (in-house developed hence source is available) is bad/unacceptable but Docker container (based on public image) of 800+ MB is good?! O tempora, o mores!

When the weekend arrive, i imagine myself as busy... busy as a bee to finish our project, the DFD, and other chapters in our system analysis design. But house chores! Hays, feel sorry to myself we need to rest *tic tac, tic tac, tic tac*2

Is there any good program to visualize wifi signal?
I want to install access points in a house and want to see how good the signal is everywhere1 -
Me: GUI team needs help from backend team to add UIDs to a (shitty) object in (their in-house shitty) db.
Backend:
Backend can display these (shitty) objects properly, why can't GUI use the entire object as composite primary key? Backend can't just add some random UID to fix GUI display bug.1 -
About to rewrite a module of our in house ERP app written in access as a web app to demonstrate to management that access is in the past. Fingers crossed this goes to plan managed to wangle this with the wife(thank god she believes in me)

Some senior just pushed some half assed typescript code generator that generates stupid types that make everyone's life difficult.
Who need transparent type inference? Just use type guard everywhere.
Can't reason with the particular individual.
Please release me from my misery.
In house built == shitty version of original open source library. -

Working on a project that requires two computers is complex for me currently. I need to wait for the only other windows computer to become available in the house.
Although in the mean time I’m just taking the time to learn WinForms since someone lent me a book for it. I know WPF is better but I’m not interested in learning it at the moment. WinForms will do all I need it to.8 -
Today in my house, all the internet on everyone's device has failed for a while. My Linux computer and my phone are the only devices that are not affected for some reason.

@dfox Roughly how long would it take for devRant stickers to arrive in Australia from when I ask for them? I'm moving house very soon and don't want to somehow miss them!3

My work laptop didn't connect to our in-house vpn when connected to my home wifi. Then again, connected the laptop to my phone as a hotspot, my phone connected to my home wifi. That worked flawlessly? How??10

I have been looking for a house for a year and Jesus it’s so fucking hard to find a decent rent.
I think I’ll have to buy but I really feel like I shouldn’t given the job situation of every dev ever.
And the most bs thing is that I already own a house wtf. (Just in the wrong place so can’t use that)1
