My first dev job was the worst! The woman in charge of the building was always on my ass! She didn't really understand what programming was and didn't like that I smoked in my office... Then I moved out of my mom's house and got my own place9

I work from home. Sometimes, my husband remotes into his computer during the day. When I see it, I message him jokingly that someone is "hacking his computer". Then this happens:7 -
Conversation in (not so far) future:
Me: Sorry boss, I can't get to work this morning. My car is updating. Automatically.
Boss: Oh you have that Windows 10 car, you can work from home today.
Me: Boss, but my computer...
Boss: Oh, okay it can wait till tomorrow.3 -
A very sad side effect from my new job.
When I get home, I can't bear sitting behind a screen for longer than an hour or two.
I really want to keep on programming at home but I just can't put myself to it after work anymore :'(.
I actually feel pretty sad about it 😭24 -
My wife took the kids to the mall.
I work from home.
me: fuck yeah, I'll be able to work now, since I focus a lot more when there's a lot of silence in the house, looking forward to this coding session
me: *takes the fattest 2 hour nap*
I guess I was tired...8 -
While working from home, my wife overlooked my work Slack chat.
She saw me typing "can you ssh?" and told me "that's a bit rude".
She understood it as "can you shush?".4 -
I love coming home from classes to get some work done on my setup.
My thought is; if I'm going to be sitting here for hours at a time working, may as well make it a comfortable environment.45 -
"Ugh... what a day, so exhausted from sitting at the computer all day. Can't wait to get home from work and
INSTALL ARCH LINUX FUCK YEAH!!"5 -
When I'm at work, can't wait to go home and work on my personal projects.
When I'm home I cook, I eat then I'm too tired to do anything except watching Netflix on the couch.
Then I go to bed frustrated for not having actually done anything I really like.
Am I the only one?
Is there any escape from this?17 -
I really love my job these cold, rainy autumn days with yellow trees, where I can work from home having a nice fire going in the fireplace and the dog sleeping on my feet :-)9
-
>Wife texts me to buy her 10 oranges on the way home from work
>Arrive home with 2 oranges thanks to working with binary..
Believe it or not this actually happened after I had just finished a whole binary-related project over the span of around a month.6 -
Corporate proxies that block resources web developers can't work without are the worst, preventing npm and composer from working at all. Easier to work from home than at work.1
-
My fucking company just decided that anyone who wants to work from home because of the Corona scare will get a 50% pay cut. Even if there's zero drop in efficiency.
How illegal is this shit?13 -
Am I the only one who solves more bugs in my head on the commute home from work than I actually do at work?10
-
So today the Manager told my coworker that "going to the toilet" is an excuse. We all work from home, "eating", "shiting", and anything other than work is considered excuses.
What in the bloody fuckery fuck is this?36 -
You can work from anywhere... anywhere in the world!
Hmmm... Yeah, right! But not when management likes warm bodies at the office.
I hate, hate, absolutely HATE having to travel to work, spending at least 45min to an hour in traffic just to get to work! 😤😡 And then rinse and repeat to get home... which means I'm up at 5:30 every morning to be at work by 7:30, only to get home past 18:00 - traffic permitting! *sigh* 😩12 -
My co-worker convinced me to post my setup up since this is what I'm using when I work from home, or go on a sprint. I'm way more productive here than the office! Maybe they shpuld just let me work from home indefinitely 😎
I like to think of this as my happy place :)8 -

Working from home, picking my own hours of work, being paid ridiculous sums of money, and of course, all the pretty ladies. Oh wait. I have none of that. :(4

So 10 months ago i moved from Cambridge (UK) to Guildford (UK), due to moving this distance i started working from home and going into the office once a week.
Now after 10 months i have finally got my home office how i first imagined it. Everything runs from my laptop which is located on the shelving unit away from my desk. Everything plugs into it via 1 USB lead.
Setup:
27" 2560 x 1440 monitor flanked by two 1280 x 1024 monitors.
Asus Laptop (i5-6300HQ, 12GB ram, 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD)
Home PC (i5-7600, 8GB ram, GTX 770)
Accessories:
StarTech USB hub - This allows me to plug my three monitors, keyboards, mouse and everything else into my laptop.
KVM switch - Allows me to swap between my Work PC and Home PC with a click of a button14 -
We are forced to work from home until further notice . i am hating every second of it. Being home and not gaming or binging on anime / netflix feels like a punishment. im more productive in the office.15

That moment when you get stressed because you think you've overslept but then realize that you work from home so it doesn't matter2
-
Dear HR,
I am suffering from Corona and request you to grant me paid leave for 30days otherwise I will come to office
(reply from HR)
Dear Ritik,
after knowing that you are infected , we have immediately asked all other employees to work from home, therefore you can come to office and start working. your leave request is rejected.5 -
Overheard 2 colleagues having an interesting telephonic meeting late night at my room.
Dev 1: Wait. I am trying to fix it.
Dev 2: Ok. Take your time
Dev 1: Shit. I found it. I knew I was doing something wrong here.
Dev 2: Oh. Nice. What was the bug?
Dev 1: It was a super silly mistake. Don't want to tell. Folks will laugh at me.
Dev 2: Don't worry. It happens with everyone. Come tomorrow at office, and whisper it in my ears. Noone will know.8 -
Back home from college.
Now I have to work with 128Kbps internet. And oh look steam sale 🙋.
Better buy a 23 gigs game to test my patience evn further..5 -
*Me, sittting in a sprint planning meeting*
PM: We are going to start a 2 weeks sprint and everyone is expected to meet the deadlines no matter the cost.
*Scrum master being an intern doesn't still know how to plan the sprint*
Me: we are having a week long holiday due to elections next week and how do you expect to finish within the deadline when office is closed.
PM: we are aware of that, but who is ready to take this as a challenge and be proactive in completing the tasks?
How many of you have faced this situation where the company expects you to work from home and get the tasks done even during the holidays. The company only values their work and not the employees. They want us to work as slaves without valuing us. They expect us to be loyal to the company through work but they aren't ready to be loyal to us through payments.
DONT DEVELOPERS HAVE THEIR HOLIDAYS TO SPEND TIME WITH THEIR LOVED ONES? ARE WE MACHINES?15 -
Got home from work and found this Python at my doorstep, I cringed initially but remembered I write Python, so I said "Hey! Where's your interpreter?"5

Wife ( working from home; to husband ) : how many whistles did the pressure cooker blow?
Husband : How am I supposed to know? I don't know!
Manager ( on Skype ) : Three! I heard three whistles!5 -
Deadline is tomorrow. Colleague constantly chatting on Facebook. And he said he'll work from home tomorrow. Am i wrong thinking about ways to smash his head?4

I hate this work from home shit with your family around. "You're always in front of the computer, go workout, go socialize, its family time"
What part of "work from home" you don't understand. SMH!9 -
1 - Please hack his/her facebook account for me.
2 - (at home) I used to block wifi access by mac filtering and if there's legit server down and wifi isn't working, everyone blames me.
(I am freelancer and mostly work from home)
3 - almost all of my relatives think I don't work.
4 - I am first choice for everyone's phone, PC and hardware repair.
This one is classic
GET A REAL JOB, you need to go out in the field for work.5 -
naked developer day:
Today I'll work from home, sitting completely naked in front of my mac. Only keyboard, mac and me.
It's a huge saving in clothes and energy to clean them23 -
I am very happy that I found devRant. I work from home so ranting to other developers in person is impossible... thank you for filling that void.3
-
Friend : I will do this when I get back from work.
Me : But you are working from home, aren't you?
Friend : Yes, but I am at work, right now.
Me: And how does your route back home look like?
Friend : I switch input source from my work's laptop to gaming rig.6 -
I LOVE WORK FROM HOME!! I love it sooooo much. You suckers think I’m actually doing work? HAHA. No honest, I’m so much more productive at home than in the office! Hahaha I love this!!!8
-
So one day I come home from work and my wife meets me with a pack of these little tux-fellows!
Do I have the best wife or what!!!12 -
OMG! !rant!!!!
I already ranted about the elevator at home being stoooopid for opening doors on way up when you wanna go down..
But our work elevator is awesome!
I figured today that I can play with the authorisation light with the chip for the home elevator.. so from orange to green (work card) to red (home chip) to green to red... OMG!!! Awesome!!
Also the look of horror on coworker's face was priceless (work elevators have a tendency to malfunction as it is, without me playing with them)!!! xD xD xD16 -
People talking all day about how great and working from home is like it cured cancer! Got it, you like working from home now shut up and start making it into some sort of religion. Not everyone likes working, sleeping and being in the exact same spot, some people like interacting with other humans!
Nothing will replace being in the office with your colleagues, interacting like HUMANS12 -
When you work from home and your same age cousins do nothing to earn, their parents: "It doesn't matter. He (me) works from home, meaning he does nothing too".
Seriously?2 -
When it's Friday night, you didn't bring you work laptop home with you, have no way of working from home without it, and remember something that might be wrong with your code.
I'm sure I'll forget about it tomorrow.2 -
CEO: “Everyone has to come back to the office. No more COVID working from home nonsense. We need to work together in person to be truly effective.”
Everyone: “There aren’t enough offices and desks for everyone.”
CEO: “Oh, also, we’re laying off thousands.”
Everyone: “Well, ok, but there’s still not enough room for everyone to work together in the same spaces.”
CEO: “Ok, contractors can work from home to make room for the remaining full-time employees.”
Me, a contractor:3 -
Anyone else working from home today? Love that my current workplace has this option.
My previous workplace would have laughed in your face if you even suggested of working at home! Only our bosses were allowed to work from home (surprise surprise?)4 -
Having to use home PC because your office PC takes a millennia to train a classifier. Why not just work from home?4
-
Manager told all of us to leave at 5 instead of 6:30 because of Christmas.
Then he told us to work from home this Friday and take Monday off cuz Christmas is on a Sunday.4 -
I dont work weekends ever. And I dont bring my work home with me, once I finish for the day, Im finished. Even if there is a deadline looming or something is due for a weekend release. I will only work when Im in the office. And I wont work extra unpaid hours. All that does is create unrealistic expectations from your employer and clients. I did it once and learned that there was no point and I could have just gone home and it would have been fine. Im never doing it again.3

Just started as a remote dev and I found that it's IMPOSSIBLE to work from home.
Get annoyed from something not compiling/errors? Go play some video games two feet away. Nothing going your way? Go lie down on the bed behind you.
But for some reason I can work from home way better at night.
Any other tips for working remotely?9 -
I guess I've just got the ideal dev job. Working from home, with nice people in my team and enough time to deliver quality work.8

Wake Up. Cook. Eat. Work. Clean. Meetings. Work. Eat. Work. Netflix & Chill. Sleep. Repeat. 😎😝
How does your Work from Home look like?🧐9 -
Have to work from home for at least a few weeks..

> Old job does away with working from home
> Half the department of ~100 quits within 3 weeks
It's almost as if IT people want to work from home 🤔🤔🤔4 -
Work from Home was not the cup of tea for most of us before Covid-19. 😱
Some really love working in the comfort of their home like your oh-so-lovely HR and some are scratching their heads like your beloved Project Managers.😂
The Designer is loving his space. 😍
Tester is enjoying some good naps in between the working hours. 😴
and... What do you think programmers would be doing? 🧐
Well.. well.. well.. Programmers don't really feel any change. Coding then and Coding now. 😎
How's your Work From Home Going?4 -
I really start to lose motivation to work when working from home..
I find myself watching YouTube videos for 4-5h a day instead of working..
Still get my sprint work done but man, it’s so boring after a year at home..8 -
Renting a flat above a kindergarten.
I hate Christmas songs and I am very sensitive to high pitched noises.
It's a bad time in the year to be working from home...3 -
I got denied work from home status on black friday because I did not have RDP access for our solution.

Professional .NET Developer here:
After years of using Windows and C# for everything at work and at home, I finally switched yesterday from Windows 10 to Arch and from C# to Python for my hobby projects. Feels good!2 -
work from home. desk and pretty much everything with it stolen in family dispute. I'm holding my laptop on a small nightstand. finally got a new pc today at least :/1
-
Client doesn't have space for us consultants at his office anymore....guess we're going to HAVE TO work from home! Jeeeeeez......how horrible is that!? ..... 🤠2
-
This might seem like a dumb rant to have but I just started a new job, and I asked my boss about the Work From Home policy and basically, there is no work from home, at all. I'm bummed out because I got into a really good WFH rhythm at my last job and now I have to go into the office every day, even though I am stationed in a different city than the main company office anyway. I'm already remote! Why do I have to pay to come into work remotely anyway!? Argh.15
-
Boss : we need you for a voice conference at 7AM tomorrow in case of technical questions
Me : Sure thing
I work from home so will most probably still be in just underwear1 -

internet connection "speed" in Germany might be the reason why so many people still queuing up on the roads on their way to an office despite being allowed to work from home at least in theory10

Looking for some advice....
So I'm a web dev that works remotely full time from home which I love, I'm expecting my first child in late march which is really exciting but I'm starting to think about how it's all going to work with the missus home for at least 12 months and of course a baby that (without sounding horrible) is going to be a big distraction to me when I'm trying to work.
So just wanted to know if there was anyone else out there in a similar position or that has gone through the same thing and how you did it? Is there any advice you can give me?
Appreciate any thoughts.13 -
left the office early today to see my 2 years old son before he goes to bed.
it's 11pm and I'm working from home, gonna wake up around 5:30am to commute to work.
I really need to move closer to work3 -
I love working from home. I finally feel I'm making progress and not just extinguishing fires and doing tech support for colleagues.
Maybe I should move to freelance work after this is over... -
All employees are working from home. I found out that some developers who work 1-2 days from home don't even have a desk in theirs apartments. Now i understand why working from home is considered as unproductive.6
-
As a dev that can't work from home, sincerely, fuck you weather. I'm gonna punch the next person that says climate change isn't real.2
-
Best: I got my first job as Android dev
Worst: Long commute everyday (2.5 hours from home to work)2 -
Do you think that "Work From Home" or "Remote Work" tends to reduce the work life boundary for the employees?
What I think is that Managers feel fine pinging employees at any time of the day. And as employees either you get good at ignoring messages or work outside the working hours.20 -
I got home from my day job today to work on a side client's project that is due tonight.
Realized I'd left my laptop with all my setup for the project at the office.2 -
Best thing about the flood here is Houston is getting to work from home for 3 weeks straight. Getting to get my home office in order and avoid traffic is awesome. Not really a rant. Not really sorry.1
-
You can work from home! Heck, you can work from anywhere in the world... we just want you to be at the client 65% of the time!
Whaaaaaa... what? Are you fucking kidding me? How is that helping me avoid having to sit in traffic? -
The biggest challenge I face at work is having to sit in one place and work all day. Office feels like a prison. I miss working from home.2
-
So my boss asked me why I came into the office when it was said IF POSSIBLE, work from home. And i told him 'I am practicing social distancing from my wife.' XD2
-
You get home from work and one half of your brain goes, "Let's just code a little to catch up on the backlog", and the other half of your brain goes, "No way you psycho, we're off from work and we're not getting paid for this. I'm not helping!"
And that's why you're code sucks when you're not at work! -
Work from home
Expectation:
- Free time from commute, more time for gaming
Reality:
- Free time from commute, more time for dev works
p.s. I'm more tired these days2 -
#1 Sharing co-working space with my wife.

Manager: Good news, company will pay for extra internet cost while we work from home.
Employee: Will the cost of electricity consumed by the laptop be reimbursed?
:|4 -
I'm freelance and I work from home, despite being repeatedly told however my friends have no problem calling in for a cup of tea and a chat in order to stop that work. As a result, I've got to work late to make up for the lost time they've caused me during the working day.
I'm sick to death to explaining this to my friends who just don't understand that I "work from home," and that "I am not home from work."8 -
Never believe that you have the benefits of a work from home internship, with stipend; and the comfort of your home.
Indian parents be like, "Beti bachao beti padhao; beta dhaniya lao pudina lao"...
Which translates to, "Save daughters, educate daughters; son go bring dhaniya and pudina from the market"...
Dhaniya and Pudina are some vegetables, whose translation I don't know :P2 -
I think my manager has this false impression that just because we are working from home, we suddenly are gifted with lot of free time.
In my experience, the work life is horrible like this. I have not seen much day light in the last 2 weeks.
I don't know how long i can stay sane like this.16 -
Companies should understand the fuck that working from home doesn’t mean we are available 24 hours a day. For fuck’s sake let me eat in peace...7
-
I can get a lot more done working in Starbucks, than from my own desk at work or home. Wonder if anyone else is the same way5

- A boss that's not 100% incompetent to computers and technology in general.
-Decent pay
-Coworkers who aren't jackasses
-Doesn't feel like a job
-Nice break room
-Option to leave early and work from home -
I have been growing this creepy stache for a month now. I am hoping the "not fitting company culture"-ness of it will steadily attain me work-from-home privileges.
If it does fit the company culture, I am fucked in more ways than one.3 -
Remember to exercise kids!
My back is dying. Work equipment is great, but at home my posture is screwed from my chair not going high enough and my desk being too high for my arms to be parallel.4 -

According to many of the rant posts, I am not a programmer.
I wake up 8 in the morning, eat breakfast at home and then get to the office at 9. Work till noon and then enough 1 hour lunch, back from lunch work till like 6-7 pm, have dinner at office then head to the gym workout for an hour to an hour and half and then head home, shower and sleep at 11:59 pm.7 -
people with 8+ years of work from office experience, is 9-6 the only truth of work life? today in sprint planning, our manager suggested assigning 81 hours of tickets in a 2 week sprint and when a lot of us had 60-65 hours of work he was like "ehh it seems less . junior mgr , look into the softwares and create more tickets"
2 week sprint is 9 days +1 day for sprint planning + 2 sat Sunday 🥲 . additionally it takes me arohnd 2 hours to reach home so i try to get out by 5 pm and everyone starts staring at me. as am a bad example, i will probably be hearing from my manager in future about this.
need some tips on handling a stable work-office life. i am a covid graduate so i have seen a great wlb in work from home but its a true reality that for mext 30 years , the chances to work from home for more than 5 cumulative years is next to 0. so need a permanent office hack.
i don't think buttering boss's ass is a reliable solution . i just wanna be back at home by 7, do some workout, roam in car/watch series/work on hobby project (aka relaxing) eat and die on my bed for next day's horrific life13 -
What to do when you're 8 hours away from home at work and all you want to do is netflix and snuggle in bed 😞4

When you come home from work and try to play some throwback N64 to escape the world of code for a few hours and you get hit with this nonsense...
-
Back in office after 5 months of COVID work from home... Now my office screen feels positively tiny - and curved to the back, because I'm so used to my 33'' curved LCD at home... FML.
-
To all those working from home...
How do you keep yourself motivated to stick to a schedule?
I've been at this for 7 months now; it was great for the first 2 months, now I can't seem to get my ass together.
I still get my work done, but that's the problem.
Because I'm not motivated to stick to the schedule I've made, I'm chipping away at my non-work time to get the work done.
Any advice?7 -
Getting sent home from work because I fucked my back and I've never hated sitting down so much, so painful...
Won't even be able to sit at my desk and code :'-(4 -
For me its a good night sleep and have a strict rule not to work from home/not-working-location. It will make the window of working time more focused.2

Last week, I have the courage to leave my job which was only paying me only 180 dollars a month as a Software Engineer for 2 years, and worked on-site so plus travel time and travel expenses, though, that was my first job and I learned a lot.
Tomorrow, I will start my new job that has a WFH setup, and with better pay.
I'm a bit nervous and overthinking what if they will not like me or they will terminate me before paying my debt (debt from preparing my room from WFH setup).
Any tips from WFH people and on how to not screw up on this setup?
Wish me luck guys and thanks for the answers!3 -
So apparently, all IT staff of #ryanair is banned from remote work. Some of them are in Madrid, Spain. I heard a lot about their workplace and how "employee friendly" ther are. But to make "equality" excuse for staying in office cause pilots cant work from home...1

My specialization exam is over hurray! But what now? Went from working 30+ hours a week to 0.

With work from home being way more productive why the fuck would any software development company go back to the office? Rent, workstations, and electricity are expensive! Why spend that money when it’s not essential to your business.6

Instead of "work from home", I expected "rest from home" at least till Corona goes away.
But I am a pro-grammer.1 -
We were forced to work from home since our region is under "Enhanced Community Quarantine". I brought my work computer at home so I don't need to set up shit on my personal computer. After 2 days, I lost my internet connection and I can't contact my fucking ISP, their office is closed and their customer service doesn't exist. I am now under No Work No Pay policy. Fucking what the fuck.1

The idea of going back to work in an office terrifies me. Like...it really scares me. I really hope things work out even better than I hope and I get to keep working from home while still projecting my career upwards.4
-
Fucking fuckers!!! Why the fuck EVERY time I work from home, there's gotta be some jackass with a leaf blower, drill or chainsaw...4
-
The main benefit of an office environment for me is - conversely - the best part of working from home. It's super useful to be able to just summon someone for a 7 minute pair programming session, but i have a much greater focus at home when I know I won't be interrupted during work hours.
This whole situation is definitely making me want to work more from home and I'll probably try to make it a regular occasional thing in the future.1 -
Work From Home
I was in kitchen , my client messaged me and in hurry to reply her back , rushing towards my laptop, I fell and got bruises on my knee :(
Will take atleast one week to heel3 -
How do you cope with stress and maintaining structure to your day as you work from home? Since I started working from home, I'm struggling with vaping more than normal, exercising less. When I was still in an office, I had an unconscious rhythm to the day that I took for granted.12
-
Work from home people: what’s the naughtiest thing you do to take advantage of working from home???12
-
Me those days:
- Comes home from work, lots of motivation to work on personal projects
- Sits down in front of the PC and starts coding
- Stops coding after 5 because sweat is dripping into eyes
- Lays down in bed completely dead and sleeps until the next day
- Goes to work
Fucking love those temperatures...1 -
So the bus I get into work has been cancelled and my office manager said I could have the day off but I had some important stuff he needed me to finish so I remembered I had TeamViewer installed on my work machine so I'm going to be working from home today4
-
> push code on staging and promote on production works fine
>.come home
> pull from master and code doesn't work locally
> pull from the feature branch, same issue
> fml
I'd be so fucking disappointed in myself if I hadn't pushed it and merged it. -
To have a professional job that lets you work remotely from the comfort of your home in your own office; which pays you well enough but doesn't pressurize you into unachievable deadlines. One that gives you ample time to relax and do some part-time projects for yourself. One that lets you spend time and contribute to the communities you're part of and help you grow both professionally and within the community.
Oh, and best of all, work in the open - open source, open culture and transparency. -
Got a text from the bank that my salary is credited in my account on my way to work.
Can I turn around and head back home now? -
I was just about home from a long day of work and just blew a tire on my truck. Not flat, blew.
That wasn’t the bad part. I was so excited to get home since I figured out a bug in my code while I was at work that I had been trying to fix for a while now.
By the time I got my tire on, I had no idea how to solve the bug. -
The house is quiet...
I work from home most every day. Then came COVID.
Working from home went from a wonderful experience to god awful most days.
It worked like root's rant:
https://devrant.com/rants/2957491/...
So today for the first time in what seems like years (but really just a few months) I'm working from home and everyone is out of the house.
It will only happen a few days a week.... but oh man it is nice ....1 -
Everyone now works from home.. We don't even have a choice we need to work from home now.
Why does a flu during flu season scare people so much?? Honestly..12 -
My boss gave me the task of rewriting the app to Next.js from regular react app, I've been procrastinating for a while now....2
-
While driving home from work.
Then I have two choices either fix it when I get home or remember to fix it the next day, which I then have to think very hard to remember what the solution was.
Should have fixed it when I got home ... 😫1 -
Red Dead Redemption 2 Day - Awesome
No managers in today - fucking win
Work from home day - Can we get anymore wins?
Remote into computer that works for everyone - TODAY IT DONT FUCKING WORK -_-
Guess its a normal ass work day today and it's raining, fuck you Earth. No one is allowed to play RDR2 until I get home2 -
Why I love being in development... Gas/petrol shortage in the east coast? Work from home week! Woot Woot!
-
So a web developer is driving home from work when his girlfriend phones him. She says her sister can't log into Windows anymore even though she didn't change her password!
What happened?6 -
I used to think work from home have lots of pro like we can save our travel time, don't need to dress-up etc and I always wanted to do wfh. But this Covid-19 pandemic made me to hate work from home now I want to go back to office so that I have fix in-time and out-time and proper 8 hr work time.5
-
I Work from home for like twice in the quarter
And of course, on the day I happen to be at home... my neighbor starts drilling holes into his walls at 9:20 am3 -
Everyone: Keep people safe and work from home!
My power company: We were going to turn off your power for maintenance but now we won't to help people work from home.
Also my power company today : Hope you didn't need your power to work from home. Good luck with that.
🤦♂️1 -
I accidentally payed around EUR14 from the train station close to my home, to the station close to work. It's one fricking station from my home to work, or a half hour walk.
-
Yesterday I took the evening to set up a backup server on my home NAS, so I could finally backup my dualboot laptop. Today I came home from work, boot up the laptop to configure the clients.... This happen, fucking black screen and doesn't even boot! Fuck fuck fuuuuuuck!!!4
-
When is it worth moving for a new job opportunity? Any of you guys work from home for a company cities or states away?2
-
So I didn't realize it was going to take a global pandemic to work from home, but I guess it did and it's great!
-
Remote Desktop because I can work from home, avoid delays commuting, and dealing with other people when I'm busy
-
Just in case I didn't remember when I started working from home, I have a quick way to look it up.1
-
Ideia: Making money creating apps with publicity
Hey guys.
So I would like to know some stuff that I bet lots of devs would like to know too.
If it's possible to work from home doing apps /web pages and get enough income to be able to sustain a life without working for someone else.
I already have a job but it's a great ideia for anyone unemployed, students, anyone who wants to work from home.
If you have an app or site generating money can you provide your personal input?
Thank you in advance4 -
Hi.. How are you doing devs?
Me.. I was lot busy cause my company decided to end working from home.. and office environment sucked Like My shift got changed from 2 to 10 .. But our all employee request for permanent work from home.. I am glad that I am on now permanently working from home..
Suggest me some good ways to utilize this opportunity..:)1 -
it works on my machine. this is quite disappointing and keeps me from trying to solve the problem from home.
i was even psychologically prepared to ask on stackoverflow, but now i'll have to wait until returning back to work...5 -
When you're working on a project (directly on the FTP) from your computer at work and your computer at home and you didn't reload the code on your computer at home, so you just overwrite everything you just did during the day when saving a small edit... #FunTimes #FML #NoBackup5
-
Ok I don't know what ticks managers off about working from home.
I live an hour away from the office and my team (i.e. The whole company) consists of 3 people, INCLUDING ME. And we all work on different projects. So what's the point of even going to the small room with cubicles AKA the office? No, there aren't really any "learning from my colleagues" crap; we work on different stacks. Plus we're all juniors. Oh yeah, haven't I mentioned that? WE HAVE NO TEAM LEAD OR EVEN SENIORS. The CEO has a tech background and he communicates with us directly and discuss the requirements etc. BUT HE LIVES IN ANOTHER FUCKING CONTINENT. So, again, what's so bad about working from home in my case? My manager doesn't like it for some reason. -
So, Our company called us back to office after 8 month.. and reason was our boss is giving.. You guys may be work on bed.. It is bad for your back.. Here we will provide you better working enviornment and please do carry your laptop to office :P
But I think its okay to work from office.. Once I was excited to work from home. But dude you can learn from the person sitting next to you, discuss things around,, can see what others are doing.. Its a progress. At home you are just u and laptop :)
Personally I think its better to work under someone superior obvious he/she should be technical and egoless.. then its more fun.3 -
With pandemic work from home should be understand by the old school type of management. We have VPN duh!
-
Why is it so hard to find a good work from home position? I love my home office and I honestly don't get distracted so it would be perfect for me.8
-
When I work from home, I probably spend less time working, but I do it seriously
When I work in the office I spend most of the time I would not actually work, pretending to work and probably time spent in actual work is much less
But I guess that better performances in work from home, do not feed automotive industry… -
On my way home from work using public transport and I want to enjoy some rants.
But thanks to this fucking bad mobile network access I'm not able to load a single one.1 -
Being able to work from where ever i want, at best from home. To be there when my kids wake up after doing an all nighter.
-
So the work from home is going like, I'm coding in dreams too. It's been more than 3 days, I have successfully completed more than one module😂
I guess it is happening with everyone. -
yeah guess what
i don't live in switzerland
so obviously i can't work from there with your super fancy "4 days of work week from home (as long as it's in switzerland!!! WoW aMaZiNG" boomer plan
but you know what? let me do literally 5 seconds of research so you don't have to
please end it all4 -
As a lot of companies have been moving back to work from office. What's your right mix for work from home / office?25
-
Work from home, jerking off, ranting co-workers/bosses during an online meeting forgetting to turn off my cam and mic3
-
Getting pretty sick of proposal improvements to the business I work for to then be knocked back before I even finish/ they finish reading the proposal.
From now on I come to work, do job, if no work available do nothing, go home!!
I'm done!! -
Imagine having to share space with a sick co-worker with constant sneeezing and coughings.
People who are sick but still want to work should opt to work from home.3 -
So a little while back, my location was officially switched from "Specific Office Location" to "Home Office", i.e. I was finally _officially_ full-time WFH. The other day, I had to visit one of our physical offices for the first time in years. What I didn't realise until that point was that I HAVE to work from home: I have to access a specific VPN in the US to do my work, but you can't connect to any VPNs from within our office.
Genius.
🤦🏻♂️4 -
Working from home, the office is pretty unbearable in this heat.
Anyone else feel like conference calls in your underwear is a top work from home perk!5 -
battleground: work from office vs work from home?
comment your opinion below with age and total years of work exp.8 -
*NSFW* Big up to all you developers that work from home... I hope you've managed to overcome *that* stage. https://youtu.be/KGg1567fzTY2
-
Windows Remote Desktop Connection for ALL of our VMs. No VPNs whatsoever. If an employee wants to connect to work from home, we have to set up RDP on their PC. 😐🔫4
-
office devs: im so glad i can work from home and be away from my boss.
fiverr devs:hmm.. I wonder whom might my new boss be. -
So I'm at my work computer, logged into my laptop two feet away using No Machine, trying to access my home computer using Teamviewer. Where will it end?!
The reason I can't just go from my work machine to my home machine is because we use an older version of Teamviewer than what I have installed at home - just thought I'd clarify before someone asked.undefined maybe a bit harder than it needs to be windows to linux to windows double remote login why do i do this to myself?3 -
Covid gave me the ability to be really productive from home - work on personal projects and collab on projects - from all the ideas I had for lock down fitness was the one that was let slip due to too many projects I wanna build.1
-
After a few months saving a few bucks, finaly got myself a second monitor to upgrade my studies/work...
Two days later, got back home from work to find my older monitor dead... I guess I'll go back to one screen setup for some time again :(5 -
Does you all prefer lots of commotion when you work?
Or do you prefer silence?
(I prefer full sensory deprivation, my wife has the TV blaring. Very interesting mix when we both work from home)6 -
When I wake up from a full 7 hours of sleep, have Yerba mate ready to go, and have something mildly interesting to work on. Also bonus good mood if my wife and kid aren’t going to be home for the morning. Love seeing them, but hate hearing them while I try to work from home.2
-
Hello! What do you think about IT companies that allow ONLY vaccinated people to work from the office? The rest are limited only for working from home.26
-
Today I told my manager that my work from home is not working properly because of internet connectivity issues. So I’m on leave for 7 days starting tomorrow😁1
-
I work from home and my biggest coding distraction is when the house is a wreck. I also love in a small 2 bedroom apartment and my office is in the living room..3
-
Any advice for finding a remote job? I don't *need* a new job, but I'd like one, and I'd like it to be remote because I live in the middle of nowhere and don't want to move.
I occasionally work from home, but the biggest problem I face is when asked, "have you ever worked remote before? working from home isn't the same..."3 -
Sooooo anyway to hide my profile name from the home screen?
Feel that eventually someone from work is going to put 2 + 2 together and check my rants out xD3 -
Hey Guys,
I'm from Bangalore, India. And I am planning to setup work station at home. Does anybody any pointers or sample workstations you already have set it up and running?3 -
http://thepennyhoarder.com/125-work...
I've been exploring all of these companies to get an idea for where I need to lean my learning toward.
I'm super jealous of some of these benefits and it would be so handy to stay home.
However, I am still conflicted/confused on the different areas to focus on. -
What's your current remote work policy?
Our CEO said we have to go back to office next week, despite government strongly recommends to work from home. He says "I don't care what government says, government is not paying our salaries. We need to produce value in this company!"
Wuuuut??6 -
Having my first work from home today lets see how it goes with slack and mail in my hands as my work from home tools 😄1
-
When I take a leave from work for a day, I feel lost.. two days in a row, I start working on random side or home projects.. after the third day, I don't ever want to go back to work..
I wonder how many of you feel the same... -
I'm usually really productive when I work from home. At my Seattle gig, I worked from home 3~4 days a week (most of my team was in New York City anyway). My current company does not do remote work well, and I've been terribly unmotivated. Our useless manager took the entire week off to work on his house he's trying to rent out.
I'm usually not one to worry or panic or even check the news, yet I've found myself doing that all the time now.
It's been very surreal. -
Colleague put this up on their team's channel today :
" I'll be working from home today, ad hoc task is in review, will be opening a PR for backend changes [ ... ], yesterday was mainly spent on setting up gcp on my local and fixes towards gcp deployment. "
Wait, what? did you just set up the entire GCP on your local [machine]? I wouldn't mind giving you a whole week off if you needed it; if I were your manager.3 -
I'm in a meeting with 6 consultants
...
On my way home from work
...
And my colleague who can actually use his mic don't know all the answers
...
But the other developers can't hear me because I'm on my way home1 -
It took me a month's time to adjust to working in co-working space last year and it took around similar this to adjust to working from home this year. Both working environments have there own pros and cons but somehow we all find a way to continue working.
Don't know what working environment lies ahead of me once this lockdown get's over but I hope I adjust again in similar manner there too :D -
I LOL at those pictures of ppl that work from home at the beach 😂. Thats bullshit, no programmer could ever work like this with no ergonomics and a laptop on the lap for more than an hour.
-
To work from home, I recently bought an internet connection at home. It has pretty good speed and is affordable for the base plan. The speed is around ~ 35 Mbps. Never had that fast internet in my life.
Now I have this sudden urge to buy a console and start gaming. That would require me to also buy a TV screen. So I'm now dealing with a temptation that would cost me atleast $500 in total.
This corona better stop soon...3 -
Work from home..7 weeks..daily
meeting.start with using skype, then google meet,.after that zoom, after that microsoft teams and back to skype now..3 -
Another con for working at the office instead of remotely: I WANT TO FART AND SHIT SO MUCH BUT CANT CZ OF MY COWORKERS. WHY WORK IN OFFICE BRUH I WANT FROM HOME5
-
I feel if there is an app like focusmate.com for developers where the developers like me who are working from home can join and work together. If there is already one, let me know3
-
Employees of companies that are so protective of their intellectual property that they don't allow any to be transfered outside of the workplace, how do you work from home?4
-
Just turned myself inside out why parsing data from serial didn't work. A full day, and 20 minutes before going home I realize the uart interrupt function was too slow. I just didn't get all chars...
-
Does somebody know, where I can find job offerings, which are basically some remote freelancer stuff? I'd like to work 1-2 hours per day "after work" from home.1
-
Doing office even when it's vacation day today...
Not because I am a workaholic or there is work pressure from company...
But because I like doing my work as a developer and it's quite peaceful and fun to code for some hours rather than idling around at home figuring out how to kill time especially during this lockdown period...
P.S. Planning to find some time to learn from online tutorials too in the evening 😁2 -
Having this stress at work especially when they monitor your performance during the WFH . Not doing rocket science or stuffs. but angular front end dev.
api dependency was delayed.
Stuck at some bugs which I think user can never reproduce but a tester did.
All of them is busy with their own ML stuffs and impediments.
Having issues with staying home and work. I dont know this is just me or someone else having the same issue. I am just trying to share. Anything you wanna add? -
Inspired by a @rawdreeg post, Does anybody else feel like their coworkers judge them harshly because they work from home? Do you feel the need to justify every piece of your work day?
-
https://thriveglobal.com/stories/...
What's your business life like? Do you work at home (while being employed) or do you do you seperate private and business-related physically? -
Everywhere now there is a work from hype, so I wrote one article on my blog. Hope everyone can read and relate , to same. Shiver being working at home .
Check here
https://tekraze.com/2020/03/...
Will write one more article with pros and cons specific to company/employee.
Thanks10 -
When I do programming work from home, I put up a picture of my wife on my secondary screen.
I mean my imaginary wife cause I got no real wife.
Upvote if you agree 👌7 -
I'm on the fence about changing my career path. It's the comfort zone of software development that keeps me in this bubble.
I mean, what other jobs are there where I can totally work from home and get to pick my work hours?1 -
I have totally lost the sense of discipline in work after working from home for the last 9 months.
And there is a lack of contact with people other than immediate family due to new restrictions which is even more frustrating.
I will always be the one preferring to work from coworking spaces than home.
And if anyone wants to bring up the point of reduced travel time then please don't. My office was just 15 minutes away from home via train. -
Having the capability to work from home (or anywhere really) with little to no hindrance of my progress or my ability to communicate with my co-workers
-
Working from 7:00 to 15:00,after work don't have that much time to workout, so I try ti weighted push-ups every minute or so from 2pm till 3..biggest problem is when the code embraces me and I forget that I should work out a bit.. And yes, I work from home3
-
Everyone now going for work from home...
The secret will be revealed 😂
Being work from home guy I like used to tease my friends being in their offices, they need to go daily.
Now everyone(mostly) will be doing from home ...
Anyways congrats to people who got to work from home
But still make sure to stay protected from corona 👍 -
Working from home stupidities...
It's last day before the weekend and I still felt like the weekend is already here. Totally forgot to start off for work while watching web series in the morning. -
Just came back home from work, realizing i have to do all of this all over again tomorrow and every next day....4
-
Nothing better than a remote work from home except while we're on a meeting on teams I'm sitting on the toilet dumping a massive 💩💩💩 and writing this rant1
-
I’m worried, as I’m sure many of you are about covid 19 and work drying up. I can work from home but who’s gonna want to get a new site or app done now with so much uncertainty!1
-
hi anyone had experience whit TATA TCS?
I word from home but now they want that I work in the office in other place.
any experience thank you all4 -
Hey guys! Can you describe some of the problems y'll are facing with virtual meetings because of WFH??17
-
Few minutes into work and I'm already hungry and sleepy. I had breakfast before I left home today. It's raining over here don't feel like moving from my desk.
-
!Rant !Promotion
As I read some Devs rant they are out of job, thought to share something that came to my inbox.
Company called Toggl is hiring
Check https://jobs.toggl.com
They have some test online to try and most of all jobs are work from home too.
Try checking them out -
Nothing interesting to work on. Weird problems from others trying to force a bad solution to a problem. I just want to go home and finish Westworld!1
-
good thing about working from home all weekend is that on Monday at work you don't have that shitty feeling "it's fucking Monday".
Plus, you meet some humans after 2 days in the cave2
