Not goals. More like dream...
... To get into that one uni that I actually want for phd.
I have gotten so spoiled playing with robots and neural networks, that I can't even imagine falling that badly from grace to go back to... web development. Like I'm not looking down on it, it's just that I found my passion and there is not enough jobs available out there for me without going through phd or high-end research.
... And I honestly don't have a backup plan. There are choices, but I don't like any of them. So here goes hoping they accept me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯3 -
Invest more into stocks.
Started trading a bit at the end of last year ,made some solid returns. Have quite a bit of cash laying around so I think I'll just invest and spread over companies I believe in as I only plan on using the cash in the next year or 2. Work on some of my personal projects, because I didnt last year - at all. Also work out a bit. Got a bit of a chub going on during the pandemic. Learn GO. Upskill and maybe look into switching companies.
Buy some shit. Been saving around 80% of my paycheck for almost 2 years now... I've bought a roof over my head so it's time to spend some of the cash to get a few things to enjoy myself. Sell some unused stuff. Vomited some thoughts.

I want to stop for a while, leave the city and go live somewhere quiet. Grow my own food and raise some cute chickies. Then I'll probably miss coding, but definitely not the corporate hellholes I worked and still work for. This is obviously not a goal for this year but my wish for before I turn 40.

The problem is I either need to learn how to draw or pay someone to do it.
I am struggling with lack of knowing decent graphics designer for couple of years now.
I even started to learn drawing cause I don’t know anyone who can help me.

Make the development environment, the code base and the documentation cleaner for the new hires.
My predecessors copied whole repos without clean-up and doc and let me figure out what was working or not. They just 'made' it work. The CI process, if you can call it that, is unstable and overengineered as hell.
I don't want new hires to feel the same dread I did trying to repair other people's stack of mistakes.2 -

Some stats on what I've been doing all 2020:
222 working days.
60% of the days, working on dev stuff.
80% of the days, working on 2nd responsibility (legal documentation for clients).
From April, 60% of the 222 days working on the 3rd responsibility I got assigned in, you guessed it, April (KPI making).
So basically 70% of my job is no longer what I signed up for.
That's what I want to change this year. -
Either get some form of 'stable' release of my current gang engine or just grow a pair and finally teach myself C and go back to the drawing board and build my engine with complete portability.8

- Document the current architecture & code for new hires as well as existing people to get a grip on the logic (not everyone understands it)
- Figure out what MLOps is
- Build at least one front-end application to understand the hardships of UI devs -
Create a nice documentation website for a library we have at work.
Complete with examples, public api, and search engine.
Then I can die happily. -
I want to be more tech savvy. I love programming, am fluent in Java and have no problem in pickung up new languages from time to time. But I’m really not a tech person. I always feel like I lose my grip on things when it comes to servers, web stuff and databases.2

I'm a lazy piece of shit that feels backend code is more important than frontend code (it kinda is though...). But this resulted in me using bootstrap and jQuery in just about every project so I did not have to put effort into it. So this year, I'll ditch them. They've served me well, but they are so bloated and also fuck up your HTML. Removing bootstrap and jQuery for existing projects is gonna be a pain, but I'll try...7

- Get comfortable with Angular 10, at least to the point where it's not too far skill-wise from Vue 3.
- Getting better at using Terraform, AWS and GitLab, and possibly picking up another cloud provider (like DigitalOcean, Linode or Vultr).
- Being used to the C4 model and being less uncertain about how I can model software systems even if I end up switching from (C4-)PlantUML to Structurizr.
- Progressing on some OSS projects, namely like All Contributors and other side projects I've put on hold.
- Getting a new laptop (when I know which one would suit me more). -

Sorry for posting a non dev goal
1. Check every social media ultra often and the first thing in the morning. I was late or sometimes completely missed something because I did not check my social media. Today I missed school because study leve was kinda cancelled. But guess what did not check my social media for the announcement and checked it in rhe afternoon when school was long over. No nwed to check email because nearly nothing important comes there except my report card which is resent on whatsapp 4 times a year6 -
Write a book on advanced spring webflux / project reactor usage. Plenty of beginner guides and tutorials, but there's very little out there that's actually useful from a real world perspective.

Finish my game. It will probably be shit because the concept just wasn't that good, but I will be able to extract 2-3 useful node modules once it's finished and tested properly. A VoIP system with overlapping rooms and an efficient co-browsing system without a serverside browser like Selenium are certain. Perhaps the plugin structure as well, but that's more architecture than code.1

- Graduate so I can get that raise I was promised.
- Finally get started on some side projects and/or have the time to contribute to some projects, OSS or not.
- Learn Haskell and Kotlin properly
- General improvement (learn, learn and learn)10 -
Learn more about networking, revisit computer science fundamentals, memorise agile frameworks, practice DDD properly, learn about basic property and conveyancing law for my new job, get through 1 tech book every 2 weeks, revisit Linux as it's been a long time, learn the basics of developing and deploying with azure, learn terraform and docker, finally finish building my own product that has been going for 3 years now, continue learning about mobile development and build a mobile app for my new product.
Should be fine xD5
