Was helping somebody with a little C++ issue (disclaimer: I know jackshit about C++).
After a while off reading his code and opening a file called "pi.cpp", I noticed something odd...
This guy literally thought is was a good idea to put 81663 fucking decimals of pi in a #define statement :^)
On the screenshot, that weird "noise" on the right is actually a scrollbar of the code itself...33 -
I love my new old-fashioned typewriter like keyboard! Works like a charm and makes fantastic noise each time I press a letter.18
-
Holy s**t, I was wondering why my fans were noisy and my computer so warm lately. So I checked inside to see this. The CPU fan is fucking resting on the graphics card like Dr House on his stick.18

Found out where the Amazon Developers keep their debug buddy.... bottom of their source code.
A duck that makes a meow noise.
Interesting choice7 -

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) headphones in, whatever music that your mood requires at the time (my taste varies from classical to country to blues to jazz, pop, rock, metal and even heavy metal (growls) at times).
libre.fm is a good source for non-redundant music. The community channel is actually very good. (even though some crap do creep in every once in a while)
If you can zone out the noise around you, have a coffee machine within your chair's (assuming it has wheels) roll-range - you're all good.
PS : There's one problem that you can never rule out - interruptions from people around you, for that, you make a list of predefined answers :9 -
Is it OK to make chewing noise when eating in the office a meter away from your colleagues?
I have the answer for you my friend:

ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NO.14 -
In bed trying to sleep.
There's a HUGE FUCKING OVERWEIGHT FLY FLYING AROUND.

IF I'D HAVE A FUCKING SHOTGUN RIGHT NOW...21 -
Too much noise in my workplace, can't focus on my code,
bought 300 bucks noise cancelling headphones,
best money i've spent19 -
It becomes really creepy when an anonymous 'number' calls you every day at the same time for a few weeks.
Picked up once, random noise and a hangup after two seconds.
It's time to install a root call blocker again :/16 -
Story about an obscure bug: https://twitter.com/mmalex/status/...
"We had a ‘fun’ one on LittleBigPlanet 1: 2 weeks to gold, a Japanese QA tester started reliably crashing the game by leaving it on over night. We could not repro. Like you, days of confirmation of identical environment, os, hardware, etc; each attempt took over 24h, plus time differences, and still no repro.
"Eventually we realised they had an eye toy plugged in, and set to record audio (that took 2 days of iterating) still no joy.
"Finally we noticed the crash was always around 4am. Why? What happened only in Japan at 4am? We begged to find out.
"Eventually the answer came: cleaners arrived. They were more thorough than our cleaners! One hour of vacuuming near the eye toy- white noise- caused the in game chat audio compression to leak a few bytes of memory (only with white noise). Long enough? Crash.
"Our final repro: radios tuned to noise, turned up, and we could reliably crash the game. Fix took 5 minutes after that. Oh, gamedev...."5 -
Living in a tiny house and having a remote-only job (and no lappy) means I get the wonderful, lovely privilege of working in my bedroom... with my 18mo (who will not leave me alone), and my girlfriend (who won't fucking leave). It's positively great!
Blasting music is often not enough to drown out the sound, and certainly does nothing for getting hit with toys or screamed at to get picked up, so I get basically nothing done during the day. And that's presupposing I'm not begged to run errands/go to lunch with her, both of which take precious hours. (She won't take the baby out alone, so she's always here unless we find a babysitter)
At least it's quiet after 9pm, so I stay up coding for as long as I can. But 18mo's wake up super early, and the girlfriend prefers to stay in the room until I'm up... so even with earplugs I don't get enough sleep. A monster a day and a bottle of Tito's vodka a month is all that keeps me sane.
Why can't I just be fucking left alone to fucking work? I'm our only goddamn source of income.
It's no wonder we're fucking broke.
And to make matters worse, I'm being downsized... and considering the above, I doubt I'll be able to land a new job. 😡15 -
I made a setting that hides your messages in a group chat. The UX guy said it would "cut down noise" to only see what others are saying.
I would like to tell you that I did this thing at gunpoint, but the truth is I did it out of malice. Sweet, sweet malice.
When the community reacted with the expected, uh, reaction... the UX guy got all the credit he deserved.
Sweet, sweet malice.4 -
I got this coworker who ask me about everything every day. That is fine with me, but the way he does it is not. I always use noise-cancelling headsets. Every fucking time he walks up to my desk - and just stands there. And every fucking time I randomly turn my head and freaks out. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN STANDING THERE, YOU CREEPY CRETIN?!12

Dear Airbnb Hosts,
The extra cleaning fee isn't just extra profit for you. I will gladly pick up after myself, before I leave. That said, if you expect me to deep clean your flat, consider leaving equipment to do so. If you send me a shitty email because I didn't buy a broom, mop, bucket and kitchen rags to stock your investment property, I'll tell you about where you can stick that noise.
Sincerely,
Fuck you7 -
Do you as a developer use
1. Noise cancelling headsets
2. Music
while working?
If music, what kind or genre?
Personally, I listen a lot to Electronic Ambience/Chillstep.55 -
Since 4 weeks i have during work my noise cancelling headphones on, thanks to the new open space office.
I don't even hear my phone ringing 😂1 -
Close your eyes.

Him: Making the sound a fart makes when attempting to escape the butt silently.

Him: Because if you sound out PHP that is exactly what it sounds like. A fart trying to escape a butt silently. -
* online meeting *
Why are ya'll muted? We can't have a conversation if you're all muted. Just unmute yourselves.
* someone had a lot of background noise *
Huh? What's happening? What's that noise? I think someone is in a very noisy place. You know what? Just mute yourselves until you want to talk.
THATS WHAT WE WERE DOING YOU PRICK4 -
The goal of one of my CS assignments was to learn about makefile, and during the last minute - literally while I was waiting for the professor to come over - I was just making everything presentable and getting rid of noise. I figured putting rm -r *.* in clean would be a good way to get rid of all the debug output.
To be fair, my project folder was indeed pretty clean afterwards.7 -
Woohoo! I fixed a huge memory leak in our app! ... In one class.
Time for noise cancelling head phones, 80s hacker music, tons of caffeine, and more leak hunting. :)3 -
So my hard drive as making a weird, cracky, crunchy, popping noise and I was super scared. DONT QUIT ON ME NOW.
And then I was super relieved to find out it was in fact my stomach.
Another few seconds go by and I realize I was just HAPPY to find out my laptop was fine, and it was ME that was unhealthy.2 -
oh god. I just heard an abrupt noise emit from a pc I was told to fix that could only be described as R2-D2 fucking a 56k modem5

Manager: we require people to work in the office but we'll give you a space to get as comfy as you want.
Me: *walk into the open space office, set my mechanical keyboard, plug in my noise cancelling headphones, start coding and mumbling every now and then*
Manager: keyboard is distracting others and we don't allow headphones as we want to be able to speak to you when we feel like it.5 -
I have a noisy client laptop fan.
It is like a DJ... 📼
Some time it sounds
Taaaaarrrraaaaa...
Some times
Tararararara....
Other times
Tara...tara..tara....
I am getting addicted to it
I am keeping headphones at home now as noise cancellation is not that good and have to listen to laptop fan music.
I have to ask for replacement.
But I guess I will miss my DJ then 😭3 -
Saw a silent mouse. No clicking noise.
Ohhh thats pretty cool I guess.
Tested the silent one and normal one.
Liked the normal one because it has clicking noises.2 -
Yes, I love my parents.
But every fucking time I plan to buy a PC they will make some noise. I am not even touching their money to buy it yet they will make a fuss about it.
"All my son does is sit in front of computer whole day"
Sorry father but I am doing the same thing in my job. They are young enough to know what I am doing yet still keeps ranting on me.
I still love them but this is so annoying sometimes.6 -
Almond, are you there?
> Sure, of course.
Oh ok, it said you were on mute.
> I was, I always go on mute if I'm not talking to help cut down on background noise **hint hint**
That's very confusing for the rest of us, can you leave your mic on please?
> Right... Okay.8 -
For the love of buggery, stop watching bloody videos on your bloody phone with the bloody volume turned up.
I was thinking about something, just starting to get in the zone, when suddenly that tinny little speaker opened up a portal into the howling chaos of the underworld.
It sounds like cats fucking in an empty grain silo.
For the next half an hour, there is no room in my head for anything apart from the diabolical echoes of that bollock-wrenchingly hideous noise.3 -
I fucking love noise cancelling headphone. Not just to block the noise but also to dive elbows deep into focus mode with code.
That is until your partner sneeks up to you on the side you don’t see.
I’m not kidding i just had a fucking heart attack guys!9 -

When something works after lots of debugging, I save REALLY hard.
My wife: what was that banging noise?
Me: :w on a mechanical keyboard.
My wife: What?
Me: Victory!1 -
Has anyone noticed how much waffle there is in online content. You watch a 8 minute video to find out a something that could have been explained in 30 seconds.

While writing a raytracing engine for my university project (a fairly long and complex program in C++), there was a subtle bug that, under very specific conditions, the ray energy calculation would return 0 or NaN, and the corresponding pixel would be slightly dimmer than it should be.
Now you might think that this is a trifling problem, but when it happened to random pixels across the screen at random times it would manifest as noise, and as you might know, people who render stuff Absolutely. Hate. Noise. It wouldn't do. Not acceptable.
So I worked at that thing for three whole days and finally located the bug, a tiny gotcha-type thing in a numerical routine in one corner of the module that handled multiple importance sampling (basically, mixing different sampling strategies).
Frustrating, exhausting, and easily the most gruelling bug hunt I've ever done. Utterly worth it when I fixed it. And what's even better, I found and squashed two other bugs I hadn't even noticed, lol -

Friend got me a rubber giraffe because he couldn't find a rubber duck for my birthday. This is a toy for infants and it's perfect. Apart from satisfying the use case of a rubber duck for debugging, it has added features like you can chew it when you're too frustrated (coz it's made chewable for babies) and when you press it, it makes the weird peep peep noise so that you can express your glee in successfully finding and fixing a bug.
10/10 would recommend.7 -
Everytime someone launches a VR headset, people are talking about being able to watch movies in their "personal theater" and I'm here hoping there will be a desktop mirroring or something like a vnc client compatible with the headset so that I can have *infinite* monitors and code more efficiently. I might look stupid swiveling on a chair wearing a headset but hey.. I'll enjoy it!
Imagine.. 32 monitors, a nice piece of noise-cancelling headphones, a swivel chair with keyboard attached ergonomically, backrest bent to near 40degrees..17 -
When I was a young boy and I was writing my first programs, I remember I was sad because they were fast, unlike other applications I used daily and admired, with their long splash screens and the hard drive constantly making noise whenever you performed an action. At that time for me, 'slow' meant 'serious'.
It's fun to see how things have changed today: ensuring performance is a critical part of my job, and DAMMIT WHY HASN'T THE WEB PAGE LOADED YET?!?2 -
I've got a brand new laptop and when the fan is spinning slowly, there is a noise like something is touching it.
I've recorded the noise, sent to the service and these people suggested a bios update. For a shitty fan noise...4 -
Thank goodness noise cancelling headphones exist. I have a coworker who loves running a white noise machine at his desk all day. 😒
But now I don't have to listen to it 🙉
Best purchase I have made all year.7 -
Finally, got this piece of beauty and badass combined, just to get some peace at work...
Now, dare those noisy neighbors, who doesn't silence their mobile and laptops, making loud chimes in IM, playing music on speakers and knocking at my desk when I'm on headphones and clearly don't want to be disturbed...7 -

So my colleuge is making a noise about his password not being accepted for a new account and calls me over to come assist.
After getting there and taking a look I could easily see the confirmation password was much longer than the inteded password and point this out to him.
He then proceeds to work through the source to the confirm password field and changes the data to text so I can read the confirmed password
Password: *******

We have a lamp with a dimmer.
A day, the dimmer make some noisy noise. Just down it and the lamp never bright again.
I open the dimmer, check all connection, bullshit what is wrong?
I decide to bypass the dimmer with a standard interrupter. But doesn’t work.
Finally.... I check the bulb 💡 and... burned...

I love to work in pubs/bars, this special kind of noisy environment works so well for me. I even go "into the zone".
Lets talk about this. Is anyone else the same? Just curious.
These are my 6 reasons:
0) Beer. 🍺
1) None of the activity in a bar actually interests to me, if you know what I mean. In my house, every single noise/movement will get my attention.
2) After some time all the noise blends into a kind of "homogeneous hearing blurb". Like a mantra. Maybe there are even white/pink/brown noise benefits (guess).
3) I go to places where I enjoy the music and atmosphere.
4) I like bars and pubs anyways. I feel good in these places.
5) Beer. 🍺7 -
zero motivation for anything, i just want sit outside in the sun at the lake with ice cream and not in front of a screen. And not being bothered by the new vacum cleaner loud deep learning rig of the data science department in this open floor office.

There is a guy I work with that seems to dish out and receive a lot of pranks. There have been a couple of times that I have scared him by making a cat like noise: "pssst". Anytime I see him in the hall way or outside I always pssst at him and he responds back with a pssst. It has been quite entertaining for the both of us.
So he was walking down the hallway and was a bit ahead of me. So I made the pssst noise. He had already gone around the corner. I come around the corner and he is dancing up and down struggling. He finally makes the pssst noise. He told me he was trying not to make the pssst noise, but he just had to. That was a last week.
So today I asked him: "Do you have pssst traumatic stress disorder?"1 -
1) Built an entire SoC around a MIPS CPU. Fixed bugs in the CPU. Created hardware, busses, firmware, wrote Linux drivers, ported Linux.
2) Still working on a C++ abstraction framework for heterogenous computations for 4 years. About to solve / create a prototype for GPGPU and maybe even HDL code generation. Utilizes dynamic dispatch for scalar, SSE, AVX and other targets. I started this only because I did not like the performance of procedural noise algorithms utilized in a game prototype I started in 2015.
3) Created a game in 5 months to drag myself out of depression. Feeling success while your job sucks is soooo goooodd...13 -
A friend of mine who works in tech support at a college gets this call. The guy on the other end (a college professor) asks how to open an application on his computer.
Tech Support: "There should be an icon on your desktop."
He then hears this strange rustling noise over the phone.....
Tech Support: "What are you doing?"
Professor: "You said to look on my desktop."
Tech Support: "Ummm, hang on. I'll be there in a few minutes." -

Today I lent a noise canceling headphone for a call at the office. After using it for the first time I see myself using it more often in our open office - even without sound on 😅

Not even a beach can prevent a dev from working.
Here I am, six days into vacationing. My girls are playing in the pool behind me, their mother is sunbathing and absolutely rocking a golden bikini, the sun is setting on this magnificent beach and my baby boy is even asleep besides the pool noise.
And dumbshit me is here ignoring it all and frantically typing at my phone because apparently it is VERY HARD to convince your team not to let any projects get stale while you're away.
I should go somewhere without wifi next time.11 -

How do you deal with open space offices?
I find it quite difficult to focus, the constant chatting, the constant questions, phone ringing, surprise meeting, more question, arrays of interruptions and questions again. I believe I would be a lot more productive if left alone in the total, undiscontinued silence.
Have you found your escape, your zen, your inner focus? Please share, I need some ideas16 -

my dad's excavating some land so he can build a house, and he found a HDD buried out in the middle of fucking nowhere (50+ miles from nearest town in the middle of 10-house "village") -- no case, no wrap, just the drive. It also makes a horrible cricket-like noise (https://picosong.com/w8qYn but much louder in reality, shitty phone mic) and it worries me.12

I really like my current job.
I work as an analyst developer looking after and sorting out people's old tech debt.
Once that's stable I get pretty free reign to do what I want.
It allows me to stretch from dev into graphic design, security, architecture and training on a very regular basis.
It allows me to keep an eye on tech trends, research and develop ideas using the latest shiny things.
Oh and if I say I need a thing, I can usually get it purchased.
All of the above comes with the "as long as it's for the benefit of the company" disclaimer, but when your direct managers see an IDE and think "okay he's working" the lines get a little blurry.
They keep asking me about my career goals and if I want to manage or move around. Fuck that noise, all of that noise.
Do wut I wawnt.6 -

So my grandma just called me saying that there is something wrong with the computer and the UPS is making a weird noise. When I went to find out what's going on, the UPS was beeping constantly and the computer was in the middle of a startup repair. Obviously there is no way to cancel the repair, and unplugging the UPS would probably do more harm to the computer. So we had to listen to that constant, loud, high-pitch noise while waiting for the startup repair to complete. And mind you, I'm talking about a very old and slow computer with windows 7 on it. After the repair was done, I quickly turned off the computer so I can reset the UPS and save my eardrums from burning in hell.
The worst thing is that I've downloaded the documentation of the UPS, and there was no mention of what a constant beeping means, it only described the meanings of normal beeping patterns (battery low, etc...).
My eyes are still ringing and my ears are still blurry from 20 minutes of that noise.4 -

I thought noise cancelling headphones were a universal sign and courteous way of saying "I'm busy, fuck off" but apparently that doesn't seem to translate to my team. Every time I put these things on people start trying to talk over/through them.

Mobile phones are from hell >:[ Well, at least my gf's Samsung is from hell. It makes noise for anything. If someone calls, play a stupid melody. If there is a text, play a stupid melody. If its battery needs to be charged, play a stupid melody. If its battery is fully charged, play a stupid melody. Even if it's in the middle of the night and people just maybe would like to get a few minutes of sleep! What's next? Play a stupid melody when the stupid Samsung Android piece of junk wants its diaper changed? Or when it's bored? Or just needs attention? Or when it realises that the word "smart" in smart phones actually means stupid? SHUT UP!!! We don't need a tamagotchi, we already have two kids and two cats to fullfill our tamagotchying needs! Technology is supposed to make life easier, not worse FFS! No wonder so many people get stressed out these days! And you, pathetic people at Samsung, or whoever that come up with these "smart" features that deprave decent people of their sleep, now it's your turn to be woken up! WAKE UP IDIOTS! Get outside your small mobile-bound shitholes of confined fart-filled bubbles! Learn about REAL LIFE, get yourselves nagging gfs, screaming kids and a PUNCH IN YOUR FACES! Maybe that will teach you to manufacture phones that SHUT THE FUCK UP during sleeping hours!32

I get it some people need music to work or do whatever. But I don't want to freaking listen to your music. Lower your volume what are your expensive (noise cancelling and all that shit) headphones for ? Hope they explode.5
-
Gotta love (video game) soundtracks for programming. They are most often instrumental which distracts the brain not so much from the task but make it easier (at least for me) to get in the zone. Especially with noise-cancelling headphones.
My favorite is all things Metroid, like that one:
https://youtube.com/watch/...
(and of course the Harmony of a Hunter albums).
What is your favorite (game or movie) soundtrack for programming?7 -
Work won't buy me noise-cancelling headphones T_T it gets so fucking loud here in this open floor plan3
-
It's a Friday morning I'm tired as hell after a hard week. trying to plough through all my work earphones in, music really loud. Sales guy in the office tries to talk to me i didn't hear him as my earphones were in he then says "you need to turn your music down or turn it off if you can't hear us" he said this in this serious tone. *music gets louder* to drown his noise out.3
-
Who thinks that noisy mechanical keyboard is a smart idea in an open office?
I think I'll go mad by the end of the month...14 -
What do you use YouTube/NewPipe for?
I am using it to fall asleep when nothing else helps. Boring YouTubers are good for such a reason, guys lol.
I use it to do sport, to chill, to game, to be productive, to learn, to have some noise when I am bored (e.g. eating).
Offline music while taking a shower.
So tell me... What do you use it for?5 -
disadvantage of using noise canceling headphones.
boss comes in from other room. more amused than annoyed
👺:Is there a reason you are letting out a loud burp and a fart every couple minutes that i can hear through the walls?

How the hell am I supposed to concentrate when my neighbours are trying to make me cum with a drill.
Swear the God, my ass is on some serious vibro.10 -
So they were renovating the toilets on my floor this week and despite all the noise from the drilling and taking down walls I was very productive 😍4
-
So how the fuck am I meant to get any work done with no admin access to my machine, no access to the databases I need to work with, firewall rules stopping me from doing anything from AWS so I can’t get to my data? Deadline in about a week... fuck that noise!5

The amount of stress you have in your life is directly proportional to the percentage of the screen the icons on your desktop cover up.
Prove me wrong.9 -
Waited 6h with friends for a light show to just leave 15 min before start, because I was too bored and there were way too many people... Right now enjoying with headphone and noise cancelation jazz in the train back home. Programming made me way too awkward... 😐3

uni prof: "you can't make an infinite for loop. Infinite loopsnare only possible with while loops"....
I think it's not what he meant, but it was a while ago and I forgot the context, but multiple students made a 'what the fuck?' noise.5 -
I just started using noise canceling earbuds and holy cow does it change things.
People talking and traffic blasting down the street in front of our office are my two biggest distractions on any given workday and I haven't heard any of it all day. It's heavenly.
I also have a brown noise machine I sleep next to and I've started dreaming again because I get actual restful sleep again.8 -
Noname Russian $17 wireless charger somehow makes less high pitched coil noise than my fancy nomad charger.
Yes it’s ugly. Yes the led is blasting and yes I painted over the led with a black nail polish.
I disassembled the nomad charger and located the coils that were making noise. I’m going to either fill them with epoxy (a common technique used by gpu enthusiasts to get rid of coil noise) or replace them completely.
TL;DR:
nomad — bouba
noname russian charger — kiki4 -
I'm in an open space
Since there are new people, they are formed so people are talking. So I put my headphones with noise reduction.
But I'm with a team that communicates too, so my music shouldn't be too loud.
Man it's hard finding the good balance in the volume.1 -
Manifesto for class naming
Through my work as a professional developer, I have come to value:
ComponentMapper over ComponentMappingService
TransactionalSequencer over TransactionalSequencingService
PayrollCsvGenerator over PayrollCsvService
InternalTestRunCreator over InternalService

I met a student at my school who is in a grade a couple years lower than me and was interested in learning about Perlin Noise for a game he’s making. Yesterday I spent a couple hours working on reminding myself how the algorithm worked and teaching him how it worked. Best few hours at school I’ve had in a while!3 -
TFW you hear noise from the kitchen at 2AM, you go to check it out and it is your brother opening a can of SPAM, getting the content out of the can, chopping an onion (crying while doing so) and then just holding back laughter all the way back to our room.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂3 -
A recent post by someone else regarding dial-up made me wonder: Why did it have that specific, trademark noise when connecting?? What was the purpose of that? It's not like it was useful or anything, right?6
-
If you ever have noise sensitivity like me, use bluetooth headphone with active noise cancellation(wh1000xm4 is cool) during the day and wax earplugs during sleep.
That combo saves my sanity.1 -
On the roof of my friends house. On new years eve.
The party was too noisy for me to hear the client over the phone, so I was milling around the appertment until I no longer heard the noise.
Sat down, took laptop from backpack, solved issue, wished client a Happy New Year.
Packed in laptop. Stood up, realised I had somehow wandered out of the appartment and up onto the roof.
Sat down again. Vertigo.
Opened the laptop again, sending the client the bill at 500% overtime rate.
At least the fireworks were pretty.2 -
"Web design has a bad reputation for being stylistically trendy and same-looking. Some guy does a parallax scrolling site, and now your boss wants you to add that to your corporate PR website for some reason. Glossy buttons, Gaussian Noise, linen texture, new things that look fake-old, then back to minimalism and flat colors as a reaction to the glossy noisy textured fake-old stuff." - Jonas Downey1

Anyone else here that, if working on a challenging problem, just needs silence (rather than music or background noise?) Seems to be an increasingly rare thing, especially with younger folk.
If I'm just doing boilerplate coding / something not too challenging I can work with whatever. If I really need to think however - I do that way better with no auditory distraction.8 -
After working for 3 years as a dev , last month I bought my first Noise Cancelling Headphones (Sony xm3). Best decision in my life .
It blocks all the chatter/noise from open office and lets you focus. Now I can get shit done in the office itself with all the mfking monkeys (my esteemed colleagues) chirping around .
Best decision of my life 😅3 -
My anxiety is over the roof. I have keep 3 media players simultaneously playing Pink noise, Sounds of raindrops and lofi hiphop just to keep my brain grounded.14

Spotted a new feature that had just recently being completed: "Disable all Logging due to noise". What.
Us on the Ops team just died a bit inside... -
Timesheets, timesheets, timesheets. Business bureaucracy. Stuff like this is just a way to prevent any real work from actually getting done.
I know im being unreasonable but fuck that noise.3 -
My 2009 ThinkStation has been running loud for a couple of years now, reaching temps in the 70s-80s at max load (40s idle) with stock settings, fans spinning like jet engines to try to cool it. Only recently (today) did I consider that maybe there's dust stuck somewhere, so I took the fan off my cooler and began the hunt there.
IT WAS FUCKING COVERED. Half of the fin intake area behind the fan was completely clogged up with dust. I was starving the poor thing and I never figured out why until now.
I deep-cleaned the entire system, and now it's running a gentoo install with all cores maxed running compiler tasks... Fans are much quieter, barely above idle noise, the main difference is just pitch of the noise because of the higher RPMs.
I dont have the firmware installed to measure temps, but I will update once I get that data.
Specs, in case anybody is curious:

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it’s a duck, right? So if this duck is not giving you the noise that you want, you’ve got to just punch that duck until it returns what you expect. -Patrick Ewing2

So it's Friday and keep in mind this is an open plan office and on fridays the office supplies unlimited beer on company time. Someone bought a pile of new rubber ducks for the office. Little did he know that when you squeeze them they squeak... I'm sure you can imagine the scene, very little work was done.1
-
As I mentioned in previous rants
The company that I work for is very loud and noisy, making it really hard to code.
First day in new office, bigger space in the same building....PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE NOISE AND LOUDNESS
FIRST. DAY.
Sorry guys, I have complained too they dont care.3 -
I created a white noise app called Ambie that plays sounds to help you focus, relax, or meditate. You can also download more from the sound catalogue in the app, which is powered by Azure. Free, no ads, open source. Try it out: https://jenius-apps.github.io/ambie...4

Isn't it just lovely when your boss brings his 3yo daughter who just makes noise for a living to the office while you're on a hard task?4

So I started to hear a noise on my headphones which I didn't know where it was coming from. It wasn't much of a noise but a regular sequence of "beeps", seemed like 8bit sfx. So I started moving my cable around and it turns out that if I put the headphone's cable under my phone at a specific spot I can hear the noise. Seems like some kind of interference, so the first thing that I thought of is the NFC sensor. So I remembered that an app would detect my credit card (which has NFC) if it was close to the back of my phone, so I put on my headphones and put the cable between the phone and the credit card and voila, the sound changes. It only works if the headphones are be plugged in though.
Idk why but it think this is really cool. Just wanted to share :)2 -
Idk why but I can't stand GIFs. Their constant repetition translates into noise and becomes unbearable.3
-
Open office plans are a GREAT idea. Nothing says productivity like hearing a pin drop from across the building. Who needs good acoustics anyways? And you bet your ass the moment anything sensitive to background noise is going on you're no longer allowed to communicate at all, because even a potato plugged into an audio jack can hear you whisper from 50 feet away. Good thing we don't do that often - only on days that end in Y, I assume.2

I have hundreds of Udemy courses I'm enrolled to. I hoarded them when they offered free coupons a few years ago. I realized most of them are trash, sharing wrong information with their thick accents. There is no option to unenroll, just archive. It feels dirty knowing they are still there, like ghosts hiding behind the curtains. Hoarding is a disease. I need to get rid of the noise. There is so much noise in today's world. Send help.1

Biggest distraction for me after noise, is someone challenging me for a chess game, i can't say no to that!!

So I tried to use Opera a few times at a time with different IP addresses(Opera has a VPN but normally only one connection) ...
I decided to copy the portable version
Via CMD to create a few Profiles(6 GB) and create a launch.bat
Now I have Opera running about 50 times and now my Computer starts making noise because I have a total of over 400 Processes running
CPU & RAM love it1 -

Linus Torvalds first usenet message about Linux, 1991.
Interesting conversation at a high level... Until 2011, when it was added to a Google group. And there comes the noise: "thks lulz", "Dear Sir Thank u very Sir", "thank you for everythings"...

I just spent 4 (four) hours debugging why my perlin noise used the same gradient for every point. Turns out I forgot to assign the seed for the random generator so it defaulted to 0. (I seed it every round with the map seed and coordinates so I don't have to store anything for visited regions)
So, how's your sunday night going? -
Am I the only one that can only work with pure silence or white noise? Any kind of music/distraction will mess up my concentration.3
-
So the little tech company startup that my mates and I was about to establish was closed and disbanded. Only because they were all following me, my technical expertise and not that they decided it would be in their best interest. This only happened when the Whatsapp group only started making noise when I made the noise.
So when I declared that I was leaving, they couldn't operate without me. LOL, effin sheeps and here I thought we'd all be partners working together and sharing the profits. Luckily I dodged the bullet.
Guess I'm going solo again. Hard to find people who we can click together and work together passionately with profits, y'know? Le sigh.1 -
Does the ease of “hacking”/breaking AI scare anyone else?
I remember a slide from a security presentation I saw once where there were three sections, the first was an AI classification of some animal with about 60% confidence, the second was a small grey static (think old tv static type thing) with a label next to it saying 10% and the third was an AI classification of the first picture overplayed with 10% of that noise and it had 95% confidence that the animal was COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
Adding just 10% noise and AI goes batshit crazy. (No it was not a bat afaik)
THINK ABOUT THIS IN TERMS OF STOP SIGNS. WELP.3 -
Well after working a normal office job for a while I'm kinda starting to think I thrive on isolation.
All of the people, the noise, the distractions, the lights, it's all so overwhelming. I have constant anxiety attacks.
Idk does anyone relate with this? We're they ever able to overcome? Cope? Bend their employer to the will of their isolationism by working at home more often and still producing results despite the Beck and call to "please stay in the office and fit in our prescribed work time box, you robot."3 -
I hate myself. I have insomnia. Sleeping is hard for me. I can be easily waken up by little movements, change of temperature and even little noise. Also I have a nasal cycle. When I'm asleep I can even wake up because of this stupid nasal cycle.
A long deep uninterrupted sleep or breathing in both of my nostril is heaven for me.1 -
I work in an office building which are blocks of cubicle farms. Each cubicle farm has about 50 seats. The cubicle farm I work in
1) People don’t step out to take personal calls. They talk on their phone for a good 30 minutes loudly and multiple people do this at the same time sometimes.
2) people chit chat and make noise and have more conversations than do actual work and it is noisy as fuck. People who do not have work go around chatting up people and it is loud and again noisy and distracting
3) people take calls via Skype or whatever and they’re loud too most of the time.
When I walk into work it feels like a fucking market and I think am gonna lose my mind soon. I just cannot concentrate at all.
Before anyone recommends noise cancelling headphones or anything, I really can’t because I have to constantly help out people and am being asked questions frequently and noise cancelling headphones don’t really do much for voices.
I’m pissed as fuck and really upset I can’t work because of these shitheads. I’m not sure who do I give the D to.3 -
This seems more creative, like true AI, than predictive or noise reducing like I’m told ChatGPT and current AI is. Help me out?9

My room is well isolated from street noise, today I am having some trouble to sleep, and can't stand ear buds. So I said isolated from street noise, but now I can fucking hear the mother fucker upstairs snorting like he was lying next to me -
Based on the current trend of show-your-workspace pictures doing the rounds, let me ask this...
How important is your workspace to you, specifically in an office environment, i.e. type of setup, amount of desk space, open plan/cubicle/office, number of colleagues on your proximity, noise pollution, etc., to your overall productivity and performance? And have you/are you able to do anything about?6 -
Is it OK to bludgeon the noisy, moaning, constantly negative 'devs' sitting opposite (and who deliver nothing) with my chair?4

Like if i try to sleep and or rest or take a break to relax my brain it keeps fucking thinking and worrying about these nonexistent screaming
What the fuck is this have i fucked my mental thinking??? Is my brain fucked is that what ur saying??
Someone help me please3 -
I've seen some posts on remote work. I believe all companies should permanently implement remote work if they cannot arrange a proper office.
I have been working for a company where programmers and project managers work in the same room, and sometimes I was trying to understand some problem in code when managers were screaming next to me at other developers or on the phone, because they couldn't hear themselves.
This happend so often that I would literally go home burned out.
Also there were people coming in the room to talk to the managers or just passing next to my screen every couple of minutes which was extremely distracting.
I bought a pair of over ear noise cancelling headphones and on top of that used ear plugs, but eventually I developed a very strange stress condition over the course of a year. Also listening to music while trying to focus for 8 hours a day while at work is very tiresome.
Also couldn't quit because it was my first job. -
For months had a static clicking very faint noise on my creative speakers. Googled every issue with my x-fi titanium, swapped pcie around, changed cables you name it. In the end I blamed "dying" speakers amp as they have 10 years now only to realize a minute ago it was interference from the fecking cell phone's 4g...1

I finally did it! I changed my laptop from win10 to Ubuntu, but now there is a crackling noise when I use earphones on it.
I have spent hours trying to find a solution but nothing works😭2 -
I had a company event last Friday and the CEO announced to go back to 2 days in the office.
And a bit later, he went on a spiel that employees should disable notifications more to focus. But he wants that we go back to the office... an open office with a lot more background noise.
My closest colleague that I work the most with is 2000 km away....2 -
Well i see those as two separate problems. To focus get a pot of coffee, put headphones on loud enough to tune out any outside noise, and lock the door. As for procrastination lean into the damn skid, go find something you like to do and come back later. The longer you fight it the more unproductive time you're going to have, and in my experience i get more done in 3 productive hours than i do in 8 unproductive hours1

Is connecting your aurdino and motors that it'll drive (through a motor driver of course) to the same battery bad for the aurdino?
I mean those are small DC brushed motors, will the noise/fluctuatuons they generate harm the aurdino in the long run?11 -
My laptop just went through a BSOD and I've been noticing a noise from the hard disk even before the BSOD. Dump says the process that failed is ntoskernel. That's no help.
SMART test said hard disk state as OK but crystaldiskinfo says the following which confused me even more. Is it supposed to be this way?7 -
TFW you realize you only have 2 days left until your school-leaving exams.... I'm so fucking nervous right now... Aaand apparently our city has won a soccer match, I can pretty much hear everything that's happening at the stadium... there also seems to be some big rap concert somewhere in the city... I can't open the window otherwise I'll have to listen to all that noise.5

What's the point of a FUCKING IDE that

What's the fucking point!?
CommandTimeout is an int, not a TimeSpan.
I want autocomplete to HELP ME, not to waste my time with irrelevant noise based on on some AI bullshit.
I want to know who are the motherfuckers who thought this was a good idea. I fucking hate them.
Does someone know how to disable this shit? I disabled everything in Options->Intellicode, but that shit keeps popping up.
Visual Studio 2022, btw6 -
I think my HDD just imploded on itself....sounded like the Age of Ultron Sarcovia imploding blackhole scene was happening inside of my rig.
Half asleep on my desk and that noise scared the shit out of me. It was one of my redundant drives so everything should be okay...but still, I'll have to check in the morning and see if anything else got fucked. I'm scared to look - Tomorrow Rundle's problem.

My hard drive made a short sort of grinding noise today and the machine didn't post but didn't turn off. Turned it off and on again. Everything is fine. Trying to develop and everything is just throwing the most random bs errors I'd ever seen.
Turns out somehow many, many, many directories became corrupted. Couldn't even run a check disk and half of windows broke.
Just thought I'd share that since I've never seen anything like it. -
I Work from home for like twice in the quarter
And of course, on the day I happen to be at home... my neighbor starts drilling holes into his walls at 9:20 am3 -
If only NPM' security team (so pretty much NSP's) would inform the package owners as soon as they discover vulnerabilities and give them the standard 30-90 days to fix them and release a new version before going public, instead of straight out publishing the security audits which generates noise on the terminal (obviously when using npm) and on Github
-
Dahhhhh. A few times a day, seemingly at random, one of the fans in my PC starts making a horrendous noise.
This would be mildly annoying, but fine if I could actually just isolate where the noise was coming from. But whenever I go to move the bloody thing and pop off the side case, it stops again 😬
Don't really fancy replacing all the fans one by one just in case they're the issue...9 -
There are contractors in office to take out garbage (devices, boxes etc) that we'd put away last week as part of spring cleaning

What are some interesting / unique approaches you've seen to representing generics in syntax? The only one I know is the Java/C#/Typescript way of using a separate set of parentheses and either specifying all of them or none, and I've already experimented a bit with passing them as regular arguments which works great with autocurry but every syntax option for inference adds visual noise.9 -
Ed walks into the software area.

Ed: What?
Me: Oh, I wasn't talking to you. I was making a goat noise.

I just found out my headphones become noise cancelling if I gently push them a bit through my ears. I can finally focus with noise around me, yay!
This is not an euphemism for sticking something up my butt.
I'm compensating for @rutee_07 absence, is this good enough @oreru?3 -
When I work entire night I use my short profile keyboard not to make any noise, but in holidays my mom wakes up and tries her best to makes all kind of noises, after I give up and wake up, she goes to her room to read her book!
Dear God! Please eat me!1 -
I'm glad that you have a Very Important Call but if it's longer than 5 minutes could you just fucking move to a room instead of just making noise for everyone on the fucking floor. Just take half a second and think how it would feel if everyone else did that.1

Does anyone have any good recommendations for Bluetooth, noise cancelling (over ear) headphones, with good build and sound quality?18

Just because outlook has a notification noise, doe not mean you need to have the volume turned up all the way so we all here you got an email!

We have company wide communications such as Skype and WebEx, so why the fuck do people feel the need to hold an ad hoc meeting right behind my desk? Thank God for NC headphones.2

I put on headphones and play soothing ambient noise or epic electronic/dance music or my massive Playlist of favorite songs. Then I'd code through the night when there are no people to take me out of the zone. I go non-stop until the daylight arrives.

Every morning both coworkers that sit by my side are listening to music in full volume on their earphones. The noise I hear is driving me nuts6

Going back to coding with earbuds in reminds me why I got noise cancelling over ear headphones in the first place.

We have decent linting on our codebase which covers off code quality and style.
We also have a developer who insists on making code reviews about formatting and spacing rather than functionality even tho we've tried in multiple ways to say:
- our linting covers it, if that's happy we should be (and the rest of the team is)
- it's a waste of time doing it
- it wastes the time of the team reading it
- the noise it generates makes it hard to see any legit comments
I swear to god if I see another comment saying "new line" i will scream. -
Noise!!!
I guess that is bound to happen when working in an open space.
People at my team love playing music from the computer speakers and talk loud. I moved to another corner of the office where people are not playing music aloud and talking less passionately :)
I bought noise canceling headphone, but i figured i don't like to put them on for a long time.1 -
My ANC headphones have clearly lost most of their noise cancelling effect, and now I can hear all the talk in the room and can't focus on any work. Makes me want to yell, SHUT UP EVERYONE! This sucks :(11

Installed chocolatey for the first time because hey a package manager for windows sounds cool

2. Click it to adjust exposure
3. Shoot
Yes, this limits what you can shoot, as it’s not always possible to keep the sun in the frame. But, in exchange, the sheer amount of light will make your pic _very_ sharp, as if it was engraved, colors will be restrained and balanced on pretty much every camera, noise level will be zero, and a REAL lens flare will serve as a nice finishing touch.2 -
At first, I didn't understand computers or internet or why is that dial up modem making noise. And then one day, I was playing with my dad's PC with games he bought and interactive CD quizzes for my studies. Something about teaching me about a Bill named Bill who sat on the steps to some court house singing how a bill becomes legal or something.
Then a few months after that I discovered internet and then a friend of mine introduced torrents, neopets and anime. Heck yeah!2 -
What's all the fuss about Message Queuing? Why so much hype and noise? It's just literally message Queuing? What are use cases?3

Left the window open to cool the room before going to bed. A fucking cricket got in. Didn't kill it at first, thought it'd leave.
Nope. It didn't. Lights off, comfy in my covers and there it goes... That noooooise! For fucks sake! It's not even loud, but it grates so muuuch. Agh.
And then it took me foreeeeever to find it. Bastard hide on top of the wardrobe, behind my luggage. Spend a good 10min looking for it. And he kept on taunting me, the fucking piece of crap. Well, at least its dead now. Good riddance, asshole. -
Invest in a good pair of noise cancelling headphones.
Ancillary: Have an "emergency" pair that you leave at your work desk for those times you forget your good headphones.1 -
Fuck, I love my new Varmillo keyboard with black silents, its actually somehow quieter than my colleagues membranes. The membranes those guys use have a sharper "thump", whereas mine sounds muted.
Before buying a mechanical for use at work, I watched a lot of youtube videos on sound comparisons between different switches. I was worried about the noise levels because it didn't seem like there was a whote lotta difference between a dampened switch and a regular switch. It seems like everyone is cramming a microphone right on top of the switches and not a whole lot recording from further distances.3 -
There are periods when my intolerance level is increased, my pet peeves are more present than they were. During this time every fucking thing pisses me off, especially noise. It's the bane of my focus and concentration. Got a couple of loud ass colleagues and let me tell you, I've killed them many times over in my head. Always going off topic and talking about random shit that doesn't even matter.
-
Made me think and treat other people like disposable objects.
I also try to send as few packets to them as a result, u kno', to keeping the noise down.
Nah, just kidding.
But it has given me a solid foundation and framework for understanding for understanding so much in life..
Programming have also granted me something I continue enjoying and that I don't grow bored of quickly...
Particularly object oriented and event driven development have given me a pretty good ground to support me, on my personal endeavors onto noeroscience and understanding of the human mind..
Just for fun and curiosity tho :) -
So, I bought a gaming laptop to have a desktop replacement on the move.
Issue is, when I stress it, it's... Loud af, and runs really hot (~90°c)
Is that normal for gaming laptops? I dunno if I should return it as faulty of just get used to it.
It's Asus ROG Strix Scar III G531GW - An i7 9750H and 2070.
The temp issues only seem to be about the cpu, gpu runs around 80°C and is fine...12 -
So I got my MacBook battery replaced at a store (not an authorized Apple store) because my MacBook was giving a warning “Replace now”. Battery is working fine but my left speaker is making a weird cracking noise. Is it a genuine hardware problem that has been discovered? Or something config related change which can be simply fixed? My MacBook is around 2.5 years old.5

Getting really pissed off with modern Mow-vember. I was there at the start when it was just about going the whole month without shaving. Now you need a worthy cause and well hewned face-fuzz. F*ck this noise.6

Anyone have keyboard recommendations below $50 USD? I can't stand the one my office provides anymore. Flipping thing is a $10 piece of garbage that comes with the computers. Note that noise is an issue.16

Our NOC engineer is a CLi nuthead. I send him a link to cmder on Githib.... Might be interesting. Here is the conversation that followed :
Him: it's just cmd with colours. Why do you send me shit?
Me:
Him: You mean I have to install it to use it?
Me:
Him: I see zero benifits. Pretty useless
Me: Well... 10k people think otherwise
Him: I don't understand this Githib anyway. Don't see why we should deploy this everywhere
Me: *Put my noise cancelling headphones back on*2 -
How can you tell that your PC is under a heavy load?
When, despite having your high-quality active noise canceling headphones on and playing games, you can still hear what must be your GPU having a heatstroke and having it's fans spin at 100%.
Never knew it can be this loud. Or maybe the headphones are just crap.3 -
What earphones (in ear monitors) would you guys suggest? Looking for one within 50$ or ₹3000.
I work in an open office and the lack of noise isolation is killing me11 -
I hate that I love electronics. You can be an absolute god in the technical world but on the other hand its like whose fault is it? The hardwares or the softwares???
Been debugging a DRA818v for 3 days now and havent found any answers towards why there is no transmission just noise and stuff.
FFS JUST GIVE ME AN ANSWER!
Also if you just happen to get one thing wrong, you just fried 5$ worth of components. (Which cant really happen to a software dev)1 -
A Website where the user alterts us about a defect on his printer.
There are predefined categories (things like error messages in the printer display, issues with the prints, issues with paper jams, issues with noise and so on) maybe around 10 to 20 categories.
They decide which fields are shown when the user selects it.
Should I do a Dropdown? List field? Radio buttons?
Tech: PHP, Slim Framework, fontsawesome, resulting in a mail sent to our ticket system to pre-fill form items to avoid 1st level support...1 -
that feeling when you want to take off a few days of work to REALLY research Perlin noise and displacement map filters.

Currently waiting in the doctor's office and the pc on the table is making so much noise... I have an itch to fiddle with it, maybe get a can of compressed air and clean it out. Though given that it's a doctor's office, not until I get gloves and a mask.
-
The field of Machine Learning is so disappointing.
It's all about identifying data distributions and doing computations on them.
Apparently even generative models just know the possibile distributions in advance and build data around noise?

Off to meet one of our customers next week. Requires my first long haul flight ever! 22hrs on a plane (with a wee stop in the middle!) Planning to buy a new set of noise cancelling headphones in the airport before I go! Duty Free Electronics FTW!!
See you down under!!1 -
Me: "I got the job! I write computer programs now!"
Mom: "I'm so proud of you, -bgm-. Does that mean you can come over and take a look at my computer now? The speakers, whenever I go on Facebook, they make this popping noise--"
Me: "Gotta go, ma." -
Music/Headphone gurus !
Can anybody tell me the difference between ANC (active noise cancellation) and CVC (clear voice capture).
I want to buy a neckband and a variant of it says that it has active noise cancellation while other boasts of CVC and doesn't mention ANC .
I understand that cvc is used for in-call clear capture while active noise cancellation reduces the sound in music too.
Am i right ?
Does it mean the one with cVc won't work in music ?6 -
Usually when listening to music I have on my main Spotify playlist (using headphones), after a good 7-8h sleep followed by a good breakfast.
It's usually better when:
- there's no one around to interrupt me,
- I know what I'm going to do and
- no distracting noise. -
Just noticed that my watercooling Pump stopped working a month or so ago...
It seems that after i installed my Soundcard the molox Connection was broken or didn't get enough juice anymore....
Connnected a new molex cable to the powersupply and everything is fine again.😌
How the f did my ryzen CPU survive this?!?
Just noticed because rising noise from the fans and Bubbles in the CPU Block.😑
Holy f that was close....😳1 -
What about Manjaro Linux? How many of you guys actually used this distribution? I did installed this distro on my pc. Everything's neat. Battery consumption is lower than other distro I've used before. However I'm facing an unusual behavior though. My laptops fan is making more noise than ever before. No heavy applications running. As soon as I hit the power button it seems like a fucking airplane is starting. Lmao. Is it related to os or something else?6

Open question:
Do you and your dev team openly embrace using a formatter for your projects, or do you not? And why?
My senior dev is trying to argue that it creates too much noise for commits, especially on older files and it's driving me nuts because I religiously use it (default TS formatter in VSCode btw, nothing crazy or super opinionated!)14 -
I love deadlines.
I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.

Haha fuckers fucking hell! Last post was about Factorio not starting. Guess what. My hard drive failed. Fuck. Razer wanted to wipe the computer to fix the rattling noise inside. I told them fuck off you should be able to fix it anyways. Guess they might as well wipe it all clean now...1

When PM starts to annoy me I put my noise cancellation headphones on, telling them that I lost my hearing, due to many interuptions and unfinished tasks, and they should write me an email3

I don't know who it was that invented noise cancelling headphones but the person deserves to be a proclaimed as a saviour of humankind...
... or at least this open space. And I don't even have to be jailed, which is a plus. -
When you go to the hallway because your office is full of 5yo children, and you have complained about it and your boss told you "it's not that bad"
And YOU FOUND YOUR BOSS IN THE HALLWAY WORKING AS WELL.
i work with monkeys, proud to be moneys with a monkey lier ceo.
Help.2 -
So I got a mice, and arm for it and etc.
Figured out how to do some noise cancelling.
All good for some voice overs!
ON the downside I didn't realize how much smacking and noise I make just opening my mouth ... I'm like some sort of uncouth barbarian via audio.... not just video.3 -
Was moving some equipment into my closet/attic space to reduce noise and had to use a laptop with SSH to reconfigure a few things. It was dark with only a laptop screen to guide the way.1

Managers fucking fun activity. They're taking it away from meeting room. Shouting down the hall. I pinged my HR.
Me: How can one code with this noice
HR: I understand. You even have a typo with 'noise'
Shit fuck, here goes my weekend. I have to revisit what have I coded today 😠2 -
Ok, so I have a lot of work to finish and wanted some random people talking on youtube as background noise. When I tried to visit youtube, I accidentally misspelled it to youutbe.com and visited a site that stays empty but seems to be loading a lot of js. It is pretty intriguing. My question is, what could be the possible use case for such a site and what is the maximum harm that could be done by creating websites on misspelled domain names of frequently accessed other domains? Thoughts?3

I'd like to call out the creator of "noise-gate" for connecting a dynamics compressor to a biquad, configuring them with some arbitrary constants and sharing this marvelous piece of engineering on NPM.1
-
A question, since I've seen a lot of you guys use noise-canceling headphones... Any recommendations what to buy?
Atm I have Sony's xb950n1 and I really hate them. Thinking of getting Bose QC35 II.2 -
Coke, water and tea/coffee at the reach of my hand. Two monitors and some noise (tv/netflix or music).
It lasts until I reach something that I don't want to do at the moment (generally CSS) -
Have to turn the music up so much it hurts my ears because of all the noise here. Drown it out, sure, but now I need to relax, regain focus, the 20th time today. This is bullshit. Totally losing any momentum I had today due to constant interruption.
So as long as my ears are bleeding I figured I would rant a little. shout out to us devs who are not left the fuck alone to do our jobs.2 -
I purchased a preamp / compressor / de-esser / spectral enhancer / expander/gate to reduce noise from my mic. Its 1 item, it has a bunch of things you can touch and turn.
Its great!
Now i just gotta figure out how to use it properly... xD2 -
I recently moved to a house where my gf and me each have our separate office space. However, i’m sitting with my back to the door so whenever i’m in the zone with noise cancelling on and my gf walks in i don’t hear her. Resulting in me having a couple of almost heart attacks lately.
I have ideas about mirrors or sensors but since i’m working of three screens i din’t think it will do. The second option is ofcourse to move the desk to the other side of the room so that i’m facing the door more. But there are no power plugs.
My gf basically locks her door by sitting in front of it. Also she doesnt have a noise cancelling head set.6 -
Does anybody here have any casual affinity towards reading scientific papers? During my time at the university I was exposed to read papers and found them quite exciting as they were actually informational. Articles from magazines or online ressources about yet another "groundbreaking" new tech feel hollow. And theres to much noise from hyping, evangelists and other distracting elements.
-
Does anyone listen to podcast while coding? What’s a good one to listen to and is a good background noise, doesn’t have to be coding related7
-
JavaScript still doesn't have proper types, but eslint insists that I should use let and const instead of var. Thanks for the hint, but when I care to code properly, I will use TypeScript, otherwise I don't care.
Wish the warnings in my editor would be more helpful with less noise by default, without taking time and effort to tune their settings.8 -
Sat on a bus heading home next to some guy who clearly hasn’t got knowledge of how to use a pair of fucking headphones and it sat playing a fucking game with the volume on loud, and all I can hear is the same fucking “whoosh, ping” noise fucking over and over again or he’s watching those shitty videos on Facebook
IT’S DOING MY FUCKING HEAD IN!!!!!! GET A PAIR FUCKING HEADPHONES OR MUTE YOUR FUCKING PHONE!!!!! NO-ONE WANTS TO HEAR THAT SHIT!!!!!2 -
Construction work at the office today.
Drill and hammer noises extremely loud.
I put my music volume up, but every time the drill stops I think I'm going to go deaf.2 -
Thought we moved in to a nice place but then the car noise from outside main road is killing us at night.
What can be done to fix this?11 -
How come that nowhere on the entire internet it's mentioned whether the AirPods Pro also cancel ambient noise while using the microphone to talk to other people? Am I the only person in the world that would love to have a conversation through the AirPods while being at a noisy place without them complaining about my noisy surroundings? Why is literally no review talking about that (maybe missing) feature? Seems important to me...
-
You know I'm tired of the fucking memory noise of some twisted fuck working for twisted fucks laboring off some set of idiotic arbitrary stereotypes trying to get me to do the same fucking things by baiting me like a fucking dog
I want people to live their fucking lives and the social problems in this world to just be solved
None of this in last generation or twisted dumb fucks and their insensible number games that were used to program them
I want everything cleaned up and fixed and evil people to cease being evil and no more stupid loop2 -
Ooh man, the last month I been working all day in my home PC.. and I realized how much I have problem with the noise from the fans and everything. I truly believe programming need complete silence to be productive... #soundproofeverything4

this construction behind my office is crazy. it's shaking the building i'm in.
guess i'll work from a cafe today.4 -
Please tell me there's an alternative to speedfan than lets me set up a custom curve for fan speeds. At the minute it's either constant server level noise. Or adjusting speeds manually every time i want to do something that requires high CPU load and putting them back to acceptable idle noise levels afterwards

Anybody has any recommendations for a good headset that is over ear, has ANC & is wireless with a base station?
If I can't find a good one, I'm stuck with buying my own ANC headphones or using some "noise cancellation" headset, that literally does not cancel anything.2 -
High school football games are the best. You stand in the student section cheering whenever you get a touchdown. And my school's team sucks so it's even better when we win. Like tonight. I'm writing this right after our team just won 15-14. MAKE SOME NOISE!!!1

Searching for the best mousepad in terms of most silent mouse movement... No idea what it could be. Plastic ones are noisy, aluminium depends on the mouse and textile is most times no noise difference...
Any ideas? Same for keyboards. The most silent keyboard without loosing keypress feelings... -
Roofing, ugh, what a headache! Dealing with the weather's rollercoaster, finding reliable contractors, and the sky-high costs – it's a nightmare. And the noise during repairs? Torture. Don't even start on leaks – they turn ceilings into waterfalls. The never-ending maintenance? Like having a clingy pet that empties your pockets. Roofing's a world of frustration – from unpredictable weather to relentless expenses – enough to make you want to live in a leak-free tent!7

AoC 8b teaches the importance of looking at your data to simplify your solution by simply not supporting inputs that are difficult and don't appear in your sample.
Man, fuck is this noise.
In other news, I caught up to AoC.1 -
There's no way consumers like the fake typing noise when you're speaking to a robot on customer service. E.g. "Let me pull that up for you... CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK"

make your laugh (one funny video is enough^^) get noise canceling headphones. a cozy position. one mug of coffee (more do sadly lead to an interruption at some point) and start reading / coding or whatever you simply have to do.
