After creating a logo *for free* for a client who I thought was a friend, they started getting really ungrateful and demanded me to do things in a not very calm way ("DO THIS", "DO THIS RIGHT NOW") (yes, it was actually in caps). I kindly asked them to stop using the graphics while informing them that the license used didn't let me actually force them to remove it. After that, they started yelling about how "he'd have to redo all the graphics again". All he did was put the vector logo inside a raster circle and change the font. Yes, he really did convert vector graphics to raster and didn't use the originals at all. Not only this, but he also used *aliased* raster images.
He ended up using them anyway, informing me in a cheeky way after being kicked out of a group chat (which I wasn't even the moderator of). See the picture attached for how he did that, red is the client, orange is the moderator who banned him.
TL;DR: Don't do free stuff, regardless of how bad you think your skills are.

Alright, question about graphics cards:
I want to get a six-monitor graphics card.
Currently looking at one but there's a thing:
The visiontek radeon 7750 seems great, manufacturer is AMD.
When searching for images of the *visiontek* radeon 7750 vs the AMD radeon 7750, I get different pictures, according to some product pages the visiontek amd radeon is produced by amd though....
They both have six inputs..
Point is: I'm going to run Linux on it (i refuse to install malware/spyware on my system for obvious reasons) and AMD has native Linux drivers for the radeon 7750: are those also for the visiontek radeon 7750?

Surprinsingly Linux (Elementary OS 0.4) handles Intel HD Graphics 3000 better than Windows 10. Games runs actually better on Elementary, than on Windows on my laptop!11

Rant on adaptive brightness....
So basically on my laptop there is this "function" that if the screen is mostly black it lowers the brightness, while if it's white makes it higher....
This means, if you are on devrant or discord or visual studio or any dark UI and then switch to something like google you will get freaking blinded by the max brightness, and when you'll switch back to the first program due to the lower brightness it won't look good and also it will be annoying to the eyes, and you CAN'T make it brighter because that's already the max brightness

WHO THE F*CK THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE A GOOD IDEA
If you really want to do something like this at least make it opposite: white screen low brightness, black screen higher brightness.

I have it disabled both in power saving settings and in the intel control panel but it's still active, the only way to fix it is set a registry key i found online and then reboot, but guess what, after one or two weeks it reverts back to enabled :/3 -

Started programming on one of these bad boys. It's an ABC80 a Swedish built computer.
Boy did I envy the kids that later got a C64 with color graphics. After all black and white is not that sexy... But I made my first steps in a version of basic none the less.

Seriously, getting this shit to run on Linux is a pain, and the pain never ends because you need to run all graphics-heavy programs from the terminal with a specific command, otherwise they can't even fucking detect the video card.6 -
So glad my laptop is upgradable. A month ago I had 12GB RAM and no SSD, now I have 16GB RAM and a 250GB SSD plus the 1TB HDD that I already had, an i7-4700mq, and a GeForce GT 740M.

People talking about NVIDIA drivers on Linux and how bad those are. Pretty sure that if I had any recent GTX 1080 I'e be able to actually play Rocket League on any fucking Linux distro. AMD drivers are worse. How the fuck can I have my RX 480 work in 3D applications (read: Rocket League) on any other Linux distro than Ubuntu 16.04? The internet doesn't have a solution for me.11

We additionally made incrediblly addictive modifications to the game, it's still super fun to play

New idea: Fuck raytracing for global illumination because you just need too many rays for it to converge
What if we do surfels (to keep the number of probes down and relevant to our scene) and we update the 4x4-ish sized hemisphere irradiance maps not by tracing a single ray per frame per surfel. I have a fast as shit compute shader rasterizer... What if I just raster each surfel each frame? Should be around the same number of pixels as the primary visibility so totally feasible....
Each frame just jitter the projection a bit and voila. Should have extremely high quality diffuse global illumination at well below 1 ms. Holy shit this might just work3 -

Wow so my graphics drivers got fucked up in windows 10 and there's no way to boot into safe mode - because microsoft, being the intelligent beings that they are, decided to remove the option to boot into safe mode on bootup. Instead now you can only enter safe mode through the <b><u>GUI!!!</u></b>. unbelievable....13

Online tag, it was a small game topdown only using programmed graphics (simple circles squares and lines). One could hide underneath trees, and there were powerups, toggleable walls.

Video game graphics have peaked. It absolutely has. It's gotten to a stage where 500% extra effort would result in 5% improvement which is not worth it imo.
We have games that were released in 2010's which still hold up to today's standards.

Okay so my last idea has one big problem: I need to project vertices into a single space which encompasses an entire hemisphere. AND straight lines need to remain straight when projected.
That's not something a typical projection matrix can do. Damn. I'm thinking maybe something like octahedral projection? [1]
But I'm not sure there's an answer. Else I would have to chop up the hemisphere into parts and try rastering each tri for each view. Ugh, that sucks

Apperently it hates my intel graphics card. It was giving me artifacts already during installation. It didnt boot after installation and got stuck on a purple screen with the mouse on it.
Got past that with recovery mode. Googled the solution snd they said "move mouse while booting" yeah that doesn't help.
It also didn't recognize the other monitors connected to it and since it comes without unity now everything was not where I'm used to look for it.
3 hours of grub mangleing, driver installing and a unity installation later, it finally works.
Installed terminator and oh, look, one of the most used short cuts is overwritten by some emoji pick bs.
Ffs.
Longest ubuntu installtion ever and it almost fked up the 16.04 aswell which is in dual boot atm.
And before someone says use Arch: ubuntu is a project requirement and Arch is not supported by the tools we need to use.12 -

How old were you guys when you started writing code? What language and what inspired you?
My first programming memories come from writing some QBasic text-based RPG and graphics demos when I was like 12. I remember moving into C/C++ soon after with Borland's C++ compiler and playing around with WinAPI and OpenGL 1.15 -
Unexpected downside to studying/having an interest in computer graphics - it's not that widespread a field so not many of the books have local editions. Which means I need to spend like $60+ for the good books (Real-time Rendering, Physically Based Rendering, etc.) (and sometimes international shipping too), which is a pretty large amount for a student here. It's sad because local editions of technical books rarely go above $20 (heck, above $15 is rare too).
Still worth it though, those books are easily good enough that the return on investment in knowledge/future prospects will be massive (highly recommend those two if you're into graphics btw, two of the best technical books I have).6 -

Well the company I work for was too cheap to buy a new Graphics Card so we got an old graphics card (nvidia) and had to install it with working drivers
We checked and the drivers were End Of Live since I think 2015 or 2011 so we downgraded the hell out of ubuntu 20.04 Kernel, Compilers and the driver installation still failed We had to get the gcc 7.2 but there wasn't any PPA's available with this anymore and the installation still failed without giving proper error message 11 Hours later we decided to go home
The next day we got an Email we wasted time and money of the company
but we were asked to do this.... (two working students getting minimum wage)5 -
Apply a Fortran code patch on a Gould SEL via a Mod 40 TTY terminal, which is essentially an electric typewriter connected to the computer. No graphics display. Once you hit enter on a line, that was it. If you fat-fingered something, you got to start over. We've come a long way, Baby!

Probably the most feature rich, frequently updated oss for computer graphics ever.
The project really captures the spirit of open source, most notably with it's open movie projects.
It does have a pretty steep learning curve, but taking the time to lean it is totally worth it. Not to mention comparable Autodesk software will run you thousands of $$$1 -

I once asked our graphics designer to send me a 1x1 transendent pixel as an image. She was just filling that role at the time, not being an actual graphics designer, and the request was rather unusual. It took us a couple of attempts to get what I wanted. All the cool kids in the neighborhood owning a Commodore 64. I was about 7-8 I think. Piracy was big back then, the kids swapped those large floppies and tapes containing hundreds of games through the mail. And all those cool hacktros, trainers, intros and whatnot got me interested in computer graphics and programming.

As far as mobile games go I am never to interested in or really bother much with some of them. But Honkai Impact 3rd really makes me go woaaah every time I play it. The graphics are absolutely stunning and so is the gameplay. Damned game looks absolutely gorgeous and it makes me think or xbox360 graphics. I do not have a good eye for graphics at all and I am not much of a pc or console gamer. So take that with a grain of salt.4

I'm not sure if this should be a joke or random, but the SBB train info screen in St. Gallen on platform 5 just decided to interpret the data given a bit differently than intended.
It is not broken and no other screen has that problem. What could it be, I wonder. But I don't care enouht to post it as a question.

OMFG... im in an AP computer science class and we are starting our first big project (this is a java class) and my teacher put us in a group of 3 and we had to figure out a project to do for the next 3 months. So like the teenagers they are they want to make a game... IN JAVA. like wtf java is not made for games. but since im only 1/3 of the group i have to go with the majority. So now I have to figure out how to do graphics in java. I am thinking of using LWJGL for 2d graphics. If anyone knows any other libraries for 2d graphics please let me know. Visibility rendering using traditional vertex/fragment shaders does 39 million tris in about 3.6 ms
With my newest renderer I can push 314 million triangles in about 6 ms right now
And this is just visibility, factoring in material evaluation of traditional deferred it would be at least like 10x worse. Meanwhile everything expensive about materials is completely independent of geometric complexity in my renderer

Ended up with 16.04 and 18.04 ubuntu in dual boot. (see last rant).
Fixed graphics issues on 18.04. The fix envolved setting stuff in grub. Ok.
Now we apparently need 16.04 again and can kich the 18.04.
np. Let me just boot my 16.04

It boiled down to the grub settings. so Depending on if I need 18.04 or 16.04 I need to fiddle with grub. great.
And now we don't neet 18.04 at all. So I tried to do something not in the last minute once, and it backfired completly. Wasted 5h on this shit this week. Fk this.2 -
I was so close to getting my macOS virtual machine fully working on my Razer Blade... But then I discovered that something with OpenGL/GLX doesn’t work properly, so I can’t use any graphics-heavy applications until I somehow figure out what’s wrong 😞6

Most interesting bug caused - created printer driver for vietnamese diacritical marks for old matrix printer without VN support by switching to graphics mode and plotting the dots and dashes. Print speed reduced about 200x and printer shook itself to pieces by rotating the cylinder back and forth. Oh well... Ended up buying two new laser printers instead.

Anyone hear about EMIB from Intel? It seems like it might be a game changer for getting workstation power into Ultrabook form factors. They worked with a team at AMD to engineer it, and even made it sound like they're using it to combine core i processors with AMD graphics.

So, I am doing a complete burn and rebuild of a C++ library into a C# library. My question: this thing uses GDI/OpenGL to do graphics things (Mostly rendering lines and shapes over images). Is it worth trying to use WPF for that, or does GDI/OpenGL work in C#?2 -

I have a Surface 3 for home dev stuff. I wanted to get back into C++ for graphic/GPU programming. However it uses an Intel Graphics 5000 chipset so I can't do CUDA and the Intel Media Server can't upgrade the graphics driver because it's a Surface.
What should I do? I would rather not build a system just to play.5 -

Just spent almost an hour trying to figure out why my computer won't display on my tv monitor (because the best smart TV is a PC). I tried everything, unplugging the graphics card and using the motherboard, tried another tv, tried different sockets. Tried another graphics card etc.
Eventually, without notice, after plugging it to a regular PC monitor, it started working. No clue why. But it works now so I'm happy. -
Kudos to Fedora for the 32 workstation release. It works as advertised on Lenovo laptops (even the new ones) OOTB, no issues.
Caveats: It's Wayland with Nvidia graphics disabled and has no fingerprint support, but that goes with the territory. Still an arch adherent personally, but it makes the office engineer laptop story significantly easier. -

Is it a good idea to switch from learning openGL to learning Vulkan now?
I was learning openGL in the past months and now that Vulkan is out I am thinking about learning that instead. I've heard that it's harder to learn though, so roughly how long do you think it would take to learn it as a openGL novice?
In openGL I have used instanced rendering with different textures, specular maps in the shader all in perspective 3D of course.3 -

I'm pissed at my laptop. Its using the on board graphics instead of the dedicated graphics card. I've searched everywhere and can't find a solution. I've tried just disabling the on board graphics in the device manager, but then I can't plugin external monitors. And on top of that when opening a game it doesn't even use the GPU it uses the CPU
Anyone have advice? The onboard is AMD Radeon R7 and the card is an AMD RX 560 -

My graphics card is only able to play video on YouTube with max resolution 720p. If I choose 1080p then I get less than 1 frame per second playback.
This is disappointing; seeing that Radeon 5600 XT graphics card can only play videos in 720p. I am pretty sure that poor performance is caused by Radeon graphics driver; there are no other problems of any kind on my system.

If you run into occasional graphics driver crashes and you use Firefox on Windows & Radeon Graphics, then you might want to disable hardware acceleration setting in Firefox. It reduced the frequency of crashes for me
Seems like Firefox screws up Radeon OpenGL driver somehow 🤔💭🦊

I watched a few reviews for the new nvidia RTX 4070 Ti graphics card. One question on my mind is: why is it so huge?

Ok so I got a few PC games, the graphics are stunning but I want cheats...
I see there are lots of trainer apps and mods and also Cheat Engine but the exes look sketchy, not sure what a good source would be. And Cheat Engine is detected as a virus.
I haven't played PC games in many years, this being one of the reasons (other one being hardware).
So what do you do these days? Yeah I probably shouldn't be playing games but but... The graphics look so good (Ultra setting) and still runs smoothly without overheating....16 -
Arch switch update: after a day I still haven't gotten past sddm. KDE won't start on either X or Wayland with no logs in sight. Everything worked in VB.1

Instructor showed us how to draw a circle. I started graphics mode, set red as primary color and gave a loop to the circle, which reduced width at every iteration and turned it into an ellipse.

In the near future i'd like to switch to Linux on my primary laptop (HP EliteBook 8570w) - my uni requires it for the 2nd semester.
I've been thinking about Manjaro, or something else based on Arch Linux... The problem is - I've heard about how problematic is the installation of nVidia Graphics drivers. In my laptop I have the basic Intel HD Graphics with the 2nd Gen Intel Core i7, and an nVidia Quadro K2000 card.
My question is: will I it be really problematic?1
