A super creepy webcrawler I built with a friend in Haskell. It uses social media, various reverse image searches from images and strategically picked video/gif frames, image EXIF data, user names, location data, etc to cross reference everything there is to know about someone. It builds weighted graphs in a database over time, trying to verify information through multiple pathways — although most searches are completed in seconds.
I originally built it for two reasons: Manager walks into the office for a meeting, and during the meeting I could ask him how his ski holiday with his wife and kids was, or casually mention how much I would like to learn his favorite hobby.
The other reason was porn of course.
I put further development in the freezer because it's already too creepy. I'd run it on some porn gif, and after a long search it had built a graph pointing to a residence in rural Russia with pictures of a local volleyball club.
To imagine that intelligence agencies probably have much better gathering tools is so insane to think about.53 -

An undetectable ML-based aimbot that visually recognizes enemies and your crosshairs in images copied from the GPU head, and produces emulated mouse movements on the OS-level to aim for you.
Undetectable because it uses the same api to retrieve images as gameplay streaming software, whereas almost all existing aimbots must somehow directly access the memory of the running game.12 -

Literally any of them. I've got several open projects.
My personal website- started it, got about half the front end done, no longer liked it, so I scrapped it. Take 2: got about half the front end done again, and again, didn't like it. So I just stopped working on it.
A website for a local business. I was just screwing around to test my skills, and got the entire front end almost exactly how I wanted it, and then just stopped. (I got busy and forgot about it, tbh.)
A fan page for a sports team. I was going to try and test my skills to make a blog-like website, got a large chunk of the front end down, and a bit of back end done. But it took a back seat to my personal site, and is just collecting dust.
I have procrastination issues. -
I usually start on stuff but get about 90-95% done and find that last 5-10% requires as much (time|energy) as the rest of the project.
Bloatware removal script in powershell for factory imaged systems currently.
Nearing completion now but always a few more features and testing rounds to go...
Working gui now but getting good UX takes time with winforms.3 -

There's a side project that I wanted to finish for some time now:
I built a pipboy (from Fallout 3) for a close friend - 3D printed and colored the parts, made a preliminary setup.
But to this day, it's still missing a power supply and all the proper wiring. (Jumper cables ARE not.)
Apart from that, I probably want to replace the RPi in there for a slimmer version.
Development is all done, implementation needed.1 -
I wanted to build a smart home system with arduino or pi when I'd have my own place. But since that is a ways off, let's park that.
Just learn me some linux, python, node, typescript and some js frameworks, maybe handlebars, knockout and angular? -

A Bible app for Android called Tour the Bible. It uses the Google maps API to put a pin in each location as you read so you can follow along and virtually "tour" the Bible.
I had a basic version built but then I switched to Kotlin then I pretty much completely rewrote it to use an api for the Bible content instead of plain .txt files. I still try to work on it in my spare time but with a family, full time job, full time school and part time freelancing I don't get much spare time.2 -
I would like to have more time to work on the old, lonely, dust gathering site I started to build. There was a lot of new skills I wanted to test and train. But my personal life is getting stressful in the last time. Wife broke her leg and my son started in kindergarten.
I'm starting a new job in Dec, so I quit my current job. I had to reduce my work hours to collect my son from kindergarten. Sounds like I have much time now? Nope, there somehow is few time for programming. I enjoy bouldering (thats where the leg thing happend 🙄) and that's where even more of my time goes.
I see my project become ugly in the meantime, because there are even more new things I read about and would like to use... -

A formal systems modeler that iterates all provable theorems given the rules of the system and your premises. This would be completely and utterly useless since it doesn't aim to answer any specific question, just tries to answer every possible question. Since any meaningful formal system is pretty much guaranteed to have infinite provable theorems, this is really just a computerized automated fidget spinner

I have already started the process of a side project by desiging the software, the architecture, the 3d model, ordered all the electronics of a pet 'smart' stable for my guinea pigs.
Which would automatically feed them and refill their water tanks silently but for me the point on playing around with dozens of sensors for like different water levels, water quality, hay, temperature, water quality (you get the point) ... Building a nice looking web interface or an App to control everything and get a live feed from different angles ( sounds a bit crazy altogether but it looked like a cool project )
I even started a instructable and had a github repo for sharing the source of the app/web interface and the whole micro service based server
I'm still at it and hopefully will start to build the ***ing wood and acrylic parts in the next month's but currently and for the last month's free time ist my archenemy

I started an e2e encrypted Dropbox clone, meaning file names and contents get encrypted client side prior to uploading. It also has a fairly advanced system for sharing links to files etc. But I got stuck at PDF previews which can't be generated on the server cause the file can't be decrypted there and I never finished it.2

I know this is utopic, but I've been thinking for a while now about starting an open source platform for figuring out the problems of our society and finding real world, applicable, open source solutions for them.
To give you some more details, the platform should have two interfaces:
- one for people involved in researching, compiling issues into smaller, concrete chunks that can be tackled in the real world, discuss and try to find workable solutions for the issues and so on
- one for the general public to search through the database of issues, become aware of the problems and follow progress on the issues that people started working on
Of course, anyone can join the platform, both as an observer (and have the ability to follow issues they find interesting) and/or contributor (and actually work with the community to make the world a better place in any way they can).
Each area of expertise would have some people that will manage the smaller communities that would build around issues, much like people already do in the open source community, managing teams to focus on the important thins for each issue. (I haven't found a solution for big egos getting in the way yet, but it would be nice if the people involved would focus on fixing stuff in stead of debating about tabs vs spaces, if you know what I mean).
The goal of this project would be to bring together as many people from all kind of fields to actually try to fix this broken society.
It would be even better if it attracted people with money and access to resources (one example off the top of my head being people like Elon Musk) that could help implement the solutions proposed by the community without expecting to gain profit off of it (profit is also acceptable if it is made in a considerate, fair and helpful way, but would not be promoted on the platform).
The whole thing would be voluntary work; no salary, no other commitment than the personal pledge that once someone chooses to tackle something, he/she will also see it trough (or at least do his/her best).
The platform would be something like a mix of real time communication, issue tracker, project management tool and publishing platform.
I don't yet have all the details for how it should all fit together, but if there is something that I would like to start, this is definitely it!
PS: I don't think I can ever do something like this by myself, and I don't really have the time to manage a community of developers to start work on it right now. But if you guys think something like this is something worth your time, I will make time and at least start on defining the architecture and try to turn this into a real project.
If enough people are interested, I will drop any other side projects and do my best to get this into the world!

Cause there's no really safe solution for that right now, finally release my favorite and verifiable secure linux password management tool for the web and as apps for iOS, Android and Windows Phone - including online synchronization, so you can access your passwords anywhere. (Web and Android first, the other platforms later).

Just this tiny website, that's a complete database of all cars ever created, of course with every variant and different versions through the years.
Supposed to be searchable, so that a you can compare cars with in a class or by features or something completely different.
And final icing, it should have crawlers, searching used-car-sites, to inform the user of changes is price over time.3 -
Was having fun learning Ruby so I decided to write a program that would find IMDB ratings of the hundreds of movies on my computer and recommend me the next one to watch.
Why didn't I finish it then? Couldn't get Google to work through a programmatic call.

My class schedule was really hard to figure out (since I'm a double major with tons of timing conflicts), so I made my computer do it for me. I was gonna make a GUI and sell it to my school, but I got distracted halfway through and never finished.

A tiny raspberry pi server for my group of friends. I wanted a place to upload photos, join calendars, store common interest books and notes, even set up a Diaspora, just use it different than we use the web. I've been delaying it for months, and it feels like a waste...9

A game taking place inside an operating system. Like Tron but needs to have much more solid analogies. User's body as tty process. Some representation of scheduler priority and memory allocation. Forking. Children and zombies. Init.
Some process-ownable token representing file handles.
Network ports as portals through which data may be sent by acquiring a file handle and using it.
/proc, /mem, etc are extreme stretch goals.
Never really started because I couldn't decide how to represent all the different parts so they would all be consistent *and* entertaining
As an extension of the extreme stretch goals, a multiplayer functionality where players can shell into each other's game worlds ("computers") -
Oh man, I have so many ideas and "projects" that I've spent a day at most on. There's the "build a PC in a NES"-project, the "Hearthstone collector's site"-project, the "online crossword puzzle"-project (my dad loves puzzles but goes through books like he reads them and most online are paid) but the one I'm currently most excited about is setting up a gaming community in my region with some friends :)

I've dreamt of building my own home automation system ever since we moved into this place. By the time I'll get around to it, I guess the home automation system I want is common shelfware.

A game where you build creatures from muscles, tendons, bones, blood vessels, other fluid containment and transport organs, as well as nerves and brains. Probably would look very gross. Gore-centric game.
Similarly, a game where you build robots out of Pistons, gears, Axels, fluid tanks and hoses, engines, sensors, computers and wires.
Either one of these premises is pretty amenable to a backstory where you're trying to escape-from/survive-on an alien world. -
I wish I could start my web based Brainfuck IDE with single stepping and breakpoints, as well as code formatting. I wrote it as a Java desktop application 2 years ago with no comments and I've never touched it since.

A side project lingering around is building a .NET Core based GUI program to monitor uptime and health of various Windows and Linux servers. I'm aware there are other projects that could do the same thing but I'm wanting to do this as a lesson in C# and cross-platform coding (I plan this to work on both Windows and Linux).
The program is currently CLI based on Windows with functionality to configure it and it's behaviour via config file, it currently sends email via SMTP to a specified email recipient to notify if there has been outages or performance degradation.
But of course University is in the way as well as work. Oh well... maybe I'll get to it in a couple months. -

Day ends and I feel motivated to work on it all the way home. Get in make a cup of tea boot pc create a project do initial commit to git.
And nothing. Motivation dead ability to think gone. So I'll sit there sipping my tea trying to get motivated.
Eventually I'll close it down and get motivation to start it again at 4am which isn't an ideal time to start a project. -

A space game (obviously) where ships are built and broken in convex pieces. With in-game computers and ship design/construction software, of course. Because what would a game engine be without the ability to play a game within the game, with exactly the same visual quality as in the outer one?
Edit: Game-within-game premise based on the idea that it will be easier to write the ship-CAD software in a game engine than from scratch
Edit 2: may as well also be able to play the actual game within itself, since it would be like holodeck simulations2 -
A mixture of soundcloud and facebook to build a better social network only for music lovers. Trying to do this in rust to teach myself the language. And of course I'm hoping to finish it!

I wish I could finish the game I have worked on (solo, on and off alongside regular job) for many years now. It's a callback to online gaming days of old (think BBS games) wrapped in a modern, nice looking package.2

The timing for this weekly rant is quite perftect, as I have actually just finished rewriting JavaRant! :D I redid a lot of work tried to make it very easy to use, and I think it has improved a lot.
This was also a nice occasion for me to set up Jenkins on my personal server to use that as a CI server (not that it's really necessary, but it is fun).

I made a reminder application, with different sounds for different hours, but it's super primitive, as I'd never figured out how to use android intents that we'll, and the logic was barebones. I'd like to polish it up so it's a little more user friendly and intuitive.

I want to create a browser based Application Hub for my RasPi Media Center.
Users should be able to add Applications as command (or maybe even choose from the available .desktop files).
Developing this as web application allows me to use it on the pi directly as well as on other devices in the network (for instance my phone). -
A fully deployed end to end example of CQRS/Eventsourcing using Haskell.... I only get 1-2 hour chunks to work on it sometimes weeks apart! Even then I get bogged down trying to improve my workflow with tmux and other cool Linux tools. 😣

A workout platform, which isn't focused on "hard" facts like hr or distance, rather using "soft" measurements like: Was the workout mentally demanding? How was your sleep? Etc.
Then combine this with some "hard" facts and see what makes your training more effective.
The api is more or less finished. Now the apps have to be developed.3 -

Right now I just want to finish installing and fixing the bugs of Android Studio. I can't use it yet. The java executable that comes with Android Studio has a major issue (Linux Version). I drool over the IDE and what I'll be able to do-after the bug is gone, that is. Btw, this has stopped me for months now. CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS BUGGY MONSTER?

I've started to make a tournament managed for the game osu!, but the project has been on hold for the last 9 months and will probably still be on hold for the next 10 months... By then there will be official tournament management tools. I should speedup i guess?

Oh, there are hundreds that I've started categorizing them. They outgrew the storage capacity of my head / brain. I've tried a lot of productivity tools to organize them, but in the end, all my project ideas just remain ideas scattered somewhere unless I see it action and go like, "Hey, I had that same idea. I wonder when they got the idea. Was it before or after I had it?" In the end, I just console myself saying that for me it was only an idea in my head when those people saw it through execution and has a working product. The next step for me is to get along with them and collaborate and make that idea better rather than re-invent the same wheel again according to my idea.
Nextcloud is the biggest example of an idea that came to me and remained in my head and is still on a todo list somewhere. -
