Funniest thing I heard in my computer science class
P1: What's GitHub?
P2: It's like an IDE like Eclipse but an online version.6 -
My colleague left her PC unlocked with an open project so I changed all her IDE colors to white. White text on white background! 😈21

If you use a light theme for your IDE then...
I don’t, like, hate you.
But it don’t understand you.7 -
We currently have multiple exercises for a lecture and they decided to use python this year instead of Matlab, but the codestyle is all over the place. Everything is yellow in my IDE and warnings everywhere.
Arghhh 😭10 -
What an I doing with my life? What's the meaning of all the efforts? What if I'll make a perfect own project?..
Oh, great, IDE is finally booted on!4 -
Got annoyed by the super bright default theme of the Arduino IDE. Decided to make a dark theme for it! Turned out pretty well!
Unfortunately there is no official way of themeing right now, therefore I had to edit some files in the program's directory, which was a pain in the ass to do... (and kinda scary)
I tried to adapt the Material Theme in Sublime Text btw.
Here's a comparison:24 -
I don't get people who rant about missing brackets... Your IDE/Editor will notice it and you're going to notice it. Unless of course you use Notepad.
It's not funny anymore.6 -
Once a while when I got brilliant idea of application in my head.
- open IDE
- write hello world
- close IDE
Month later wondering wtf was this about.2 -
I hate Microsoft!
But i gotta say, VS Code is a really good IDE. Guess they should've gone open source a long time ago14 -
There needs to be an IDE that can predict what stackoverflow question I'm gonna lookupundefined ide holy fuck artificial intelligence am i a genius stackoverflow productivity at its finest4

I believe that sometimes my IDE should tell me : FuckingRetardException : Man, wtf are you doing. Go fuck yourself
😂😂😂1 -
My buddy developer sitting beside me turns away for a discussion. I quickly grabbed his laptop, changed the IDE theme to dark and places it just like it was before.
It took him 15 mins to realize what I have done :P.
This is simple proof of how comfortable a dark theme is.9 -
When people request you change your badass dark IDE theme to a white/light one during a presentation.5

How many of you use GIT from a plugin in the IDE?.
I've never even tried to use it.
I feel that cli is the way to work with git.18 -
I’m convinced that Xcode and android studio are locked in an epic race to the bottom to claim the title of shittiest IDE.6

Our college has PC's with Pentium Core 2 Duo processors and 1 GB RAM. We are made to code Java on windows using default notepad and cmd. There's nothing more infuriating than that.
Me: Ma'am, can we use any IDE for our mini project or finals?
She: No kid, you can't just use that. This is code you have to write it.
Me: Wut?7 -
So I finally decided to get a theme for sublime (And other packages). I'm loving it. Post your IDE/Text editors or whatever you use to code.32

Finished our Christmas tree at work today. Featuring Zip ties, faulty burned blu rays, an old keyboard, a led stripe, cut IDE Cables and a 10m cat 5e cable and the holy Debian as topping
Sadly I cant capture all of its beauty in a single picture
I call him the GeekTree5 -
Don't you just hate it when using a tutorial and the instructor tells you to install his fave ide!!
as if it's going to make everything easier4 -
I hate every IDE. Cab I just use something that doesn't take minutes to open to write my code, please.17

So Ive been wondering.. Do companies make you use a Text Editor/IDE of their choosing or do you pick your own?
and side question, Whats your favorite Text Editor/IDE? I prefer VSCode and Sublime Text 3.24 -
What's your favorite IDE to use and why?
I saw a little IntelliJ hate on another rant, but so far it has been pretty useful for me, I only need 1 IDE for Java/PHP/HTML/Python/JS/SQL
Pic unrelated, just for attention and the LOL's19 -
I decided to work with #atom lately, and I made a fresh install on a VM to test some packages outside my real dev machine.
Just occurred to me that "by #GitHub" now means by #microsoft... So MS now really controls the IDE market from any possible angle.16 -
I really hate when I have to go to a colleuges desk to help when they need some troubleshooting . It is not because I don't want to help. It is just because of their light themed IDE.3

I've discovered https://repl.it this week and it's pretty awesome!
I'm teaching my gf some python and haskell at the moment (for her fundamentals of compuer science course at university). They have to use IDLE for python and winhugs for haskell ... and it's awful.
So I was looking for something like JSFiddle for python and haskell, something you can use for a few quick lines of code.
I came across repl.it and it's great. No registration needed, many languages to choose from and a quick way to share code. Really good online IDE :-)1 -
As devs, our keyboards are arguably the most used tools in the creative process of software development. Shortcuts are essential for (most of) us.
What's your most used keyboard shortcut in your most used IDE? Please explain what it does in which IDE.
Mine is Cmd+Alt+L in IntelliJ (reformat code, but only VCS changed or selected lines). I press it all the time, almost maniacally, after changing anything.
Close second place candidates: Shift+F6 (rename anything, e.g. file, class, function, variable), double Shift (search everywhere), Cmd+Alt+F (find in path, also in code), Cmd+B (go to declaration).12 -
Dear Apple: FIX YOUR FUCKED UP IDE!
Generating IPA file takes ages, freezes the shit out of the mac and to make it even worse a full clean -> build -> Generate Signed APK on slow ass gradle takes barely 5 minutes while XCode takes ages9 -
"Just use JCreator. It's better and easier to use than Eclipse or IntelliJ."
For those that don't know, jcreator is a Java ide that sucks ass. It doesn't even have a dark theme!3 -
status update on the codebox IDE revival project:
WHY THE FUCK DOES PTY.JS REFUSING TO BUILD? YOU IMPREGNATED TWAT, I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU DON'T BUILD RIGHT NOW IM GONNA FUCKING DEPRECATE YOU AND REPLACE YOU WITH XTERM2 -
I have a confession. I have always used IDLE because I love it. It's slow, lacks a number of features, and is just all-around outdated.
So today I went and I got rid of it. I tried PyCharm in the past but it was too complicated for Python. I like JetBrain's IDE for Java, but not for Python. Instead, this time, I opted for Spyder. I tend to get quite excited about new IDEs, and I do like this one a fair bit. The editor offers a dark theme but the UI surrounding it does not. This is offensive, but acceptable, for the time being. Here's a screenshot. Any thoughts?15 -
I feel like reviving Codebox IDE
There's a number of ppl wanting to revive so I'll give it a go so it works today

Me: you probably shouldn’t use an IDE, you would learn a lot more about the language if you did things manually.
JavaFriend: Nah I’m all good
Me: alright you do you
4 years LATER
Me: *gets text* oh it’s from JavaFriend. *opens text*
JavaFriend: “dude so I decided to stop using my IDE’s and start doing things manually and I’m learning so much”
Me: ...
Me: I know. I’ve been doing it like this for a reason.
I know IDEs are helpful and good to use but personally I like to work without them and I feel it helps you learn the language more of you go without it.
If you have opinions on the topic in general lemme know.26 -
What's your favourite IDE? 😁
I'm currently working with Emacs and it's great! (But Sublime Text is still beautiful)20 -
I have a existential question. Devs developing IDE's uses the same IDE to develop that IDE? I can't sleep thinking on that 🤔😂7
-
Can someone explain what an IDE does that vim does not? Please arrange your responses into bullet points, so they can be individually addressed.19

Yeah, thanks, now I have 57 extensions installed and not one of them is useful because my fucking IDE crashes every fifth minute.8 -
A friend told me that VSCode is somewhat like an IDE and was comparing VSCode with Webstorm...
Am i right that VSCode is a text editor and not a freacking IDE ? ☺️30 -
Which one's your favourite IDE 😋?
Intellj vs Eclipse vs Netbeans vs Xcode vs other?😏
Mine is Intellij.23 -
Today, for the first time since I've started coding, I had a legitimate use case for the multi-cursor feature of my IDE in reasonably DRY code.
Edit: nvm, I added a version of the function to support arrays on the first argument.5 -
When you're wondering where all your work went and realize the IDE stashed it because you forgot to commit before merging/changing branches.

My biggest problem with Visual Studio Code is that every fucking piece of shit dev thinks it's their duty to introduce it to me. STOP. Just stop this shit, alright? Wanna use vscode? Fine, just don't tell me it's the best tool and I MUST use it instead of the tools I'm used to. I'm tired of this bullshit.
Every new project, every new team. Starting from js/java/.net monke and ending with PMs, I must hear this bullshit about god blessed IDE that I must use, because "why you need intellij/webstorm/rider? just install vscode and some plugins. we all use it in our project and it's ok".
FUCK YOU! Refactoring is not just renaming variables and extracting blocks of code into functions. If you want terminal integrated into your text editor with highlighting and LSP support, so be it. I want an IDE with rich refactoring tools, code analysis and good completion, database viewing/modeling support, good build tools support, good UI for git and git-diff, good test and code coverage support. I don't want your semi-IDE, bloated with hundreds of bugged third-party plugins, which I must spend a week on to configure and merry with each other before using.
JUST STOP this crap and let people use the tools they are proficient/comfortable/productive with.18 -
This post is now dedicated for a comment debate with the topic "Is Visual Studio Code an IDE?"
I 'll see myself out. Make the comments rain8 -
Two brainfarts that resulted in... a lot of pain
I had been coding all day, ~6hrs. I was in the zone, so I hadn't saved to git. It was all uncommitted changes (you see where this is going...)
Brainfart#1: The code used the "Contact" class, but for some reason my hands typed "Product" in this ONE line.
Brainfart#2: I became aware of Brainfart#1, so I changed the variable from "Product" to "Contact". However, I instinctively pressed F2, "Rename Symbol", instead of just changing the variable I was using. Now ALL of the references to "Product" were to the "Contact" class instead, across all of our code.
I finished coding. I committed and pushed the changes, closed the IDE, and left the desk for a snack. When I came back, the automated tests were failing due to an import error. That's when I noticed my mistake. I couldn't do Ctrl+Z because I had closed the editor. I had to change the names one by one across all of our code. "Contact" and "Product" are probably our two most used classes 😭6 -
When your IDE starts acting up and instead of searching how to solve the issue, you just reinstall it because it's easier.3
-
How can people work with those surface of sun level bright white IDE themes? Like, do you wear your sunglasses at home too?2

Any IDE that doesn't go to the end of line when you press the down arrow key on the last line of the file, should be burned with hell fire.2

i don't understand girls. they just don't make any sense. if only they behave like my IDE.
My IDE :1 -
I am amazed that nobody mentioned Cloud9. I have been using it for 3 years and it is the best Cloud IDE ever.7

Whenever I get to switch from vs code to a jetbrains IDE, I remember what the difference between a text editor on crack and an actual IDE is. Jetbrains IDEs are just such a blessing.
Visual Studio is still a piece of shit though :)7 -
The most interesting answers come from the interview question "what IDE do you use?"
"No, Notepad++ is not an IDE."
I once even had a script kiddy who didn't use an IDE because "I code faster in notepad than in an IDE"
sigh...13 -
Don't you love it when you're in a full-on creative mood but the whole universe is somehow working against you doing anything productive?
Woke up in the morning with bright ideas for my app. But my PC restarted and my IDE crashed. After getting the IDE up, the project no longer builds. After spending hours to try and fix it, reinstall IDE and ............... voila............... everything works. I mean WTF?1 -
Our teacher is forcing us to code in an outdated version of a really bad IDE to write basic C, we can't use anything else!
The IDE is bad and crashes often, and I can't even do anything about it!
I suggested various IDE such as visual studios but nope!10 -
Anyone ever been stuck without an IDE?
Anyone ever had to use notepad instead?
ARRRRRGGHHHH!!!!!!!17 -
Being addict to IDE is when you hit ctrl + space while searching on google hoping to get suggestion ..1

When everybody keeps downloading separate IDE for separate language and you just install packages kn VSCode 😎😎3

I'm just undecided with which ide for web development I should go..
I'm switching all the time.
I'm working with NetBeans, codepen and brackets.
What do you use and why? (please only free versions)
Thank you
Above are just example pics.24 -

No Rant:
I guess I will start a religous discussion with it but I want your opinion on what tool I should learn.
Vim or Emacs (or stay with my IDE)?
For all of my programmer life I used IDEs... From Eclipse over CodeBlocks over VS to IntelliJ.
But now I realized that I want to be one of the cool kids. And using plain IntelliJ is uncool. No matter how much I love this tool.
So now I want to invest some time into learning. I never managed to do much in Vim since all code-completions sucked ass, feedback on syntax errors was bad and I never saw how I could be any faster with that shit compared to what IntelliJ does for me.
Will Emacs solve all those problems? Will Emacs make me code 1000 times faster and make having a mouse useless?
Or am I just too dumb for Vim? Can Vim itself do what my IDE does for me? Will it make me look as cool as I want to be?
Or should I stick to IntelliJ and just install Vim bindings?
What is your opinion on Vim vs Emacs vs any IDE?8 -
Imagine, you woke up from a deep sleep today 😴💤 and after that you found that all the #IDE in the world are no longer working!!!😱
What will be your first Reaction??
P.S - Don’t be scared, it’s not going to be true😜11 -
I posted a !rant a couple of days ago saying I started to get the hang of vim to change from atom (which is a memory asshole)... So after trying to actually work using vim I noticed I am far more productive using atom, so I gave VS Code a chance... Wow, it's like having atom but only consuming 80mbs tops. I think I decided what will be my default ide.
Still glad I know understand vim, I will still use it but not as my default ide.15 -
...
We are using a shitty language and a even more shitty IDE at our company for our software.
I'm quite new to this, so I don't know all sorta stuff.
Was writing an addition to a convertion from an old system to a new one.
Needed to "Map" Strings to IDs, so I used a switch case to determine the needed IDs.
Because that fuckin horseshit has no realtime errors (just at compile time...) I didn't realize that there is no such thing as strings in switch case in this language.
So I wrote this whole fuckin shit and when I compiled I got massive list of errors.
So I had to redo that shit with If, Else If... And that motherfucker just crashed on me...
HOLY SHIT...7 -
The IDE discussion started again today. I am not an advocate of Eclipse but I didn’t find any compelling reason to switch to IntelliJ either. Maybe...just maybe I should try but that would mean just trying to be cool and I don’t know if it actually makes sense. So here’s how it went:
Me: okay give me one big reason why you want me to switch out of Eclipse.
Guy: slams desk and screams: Because Eclipse is slow! IntelliJ is fast and the community edition rocks
Me: in what way
Guy: oh come on. In every single way. I would rather choose notepad than Eclipse.
**curls into a ball and dies**2 -
has anyone ever had this happen?

Spent like 5 hours today installing, configuring, and playing with phpstorm. first time I've used a real ide type program and wow, I replaced 5 programs with this I would use at the same time.
filezilla (ftp), rapidphp (code), mysql workbench, cmd prompt (node, gulp, sass), and source tree (git)6 -
Jesus with these guys that evangelize the IDE of their choosing. Everyone else is an idiot etc. The fun really only starts when said person gets to a place where he/she can set the rules for every one else.
-
Don't you just love it when project works in the IDE but as soon as you build the artifact and try to run that it just straight out refuses to run and does not spit out any errors 😐

To all the masochists who spent hours debugging misspellings:
1. Learn your tools
2. Learn good practice
Every IDE should point out when you're not using a variable you've initiated or using an uninitiated variable as well as at least highlight, if not simply list, every occurrence of the variable under your cursor and let you find all references or even display the number of references next to a variable at all times, and finally, every IDE should autocomplete for you so when it doesn't you know you've messed up. Good IDE makes all the easy mistakes hard and all of the hard tasks easy. Including running tests. If you don't know how to configure your IDE to do all these things take time and learn it. If you still can't figure it out, replace your IDE maybe...?
Also use the debugger. Preferably one that nicely integrates with your IDE. If you don't, check point 1.
Also write tests and *run them*.
Also if your misspellings tend to consist of a missing `s` at the end of a plural noun just call it `entityCollection` instead of `entities`. And read up on more good programming practices and naming conventions.7 -
If your project gets fucked up beyond repair, for example by your IDE (I'm looking at you, Android Studio) try this:
0. Backup any ignored but essential files in your project (e.g. secrets) outside of your project directory.
1. Close your IDE.
2. git clean -xdf
3. Restore any backed up local files.
4. Reopen the project as a new one in your IDE.
This is awesome, because it cleans up everything non git and not committed. So any local project files configured by your IDE will be nuked, which allows for a clean start. Also, all your locally committed work is preserved.
BTW, if you really need to start over (even with git), then just remove all the things an clone the remote repo again. -
In my early days of web development I was on the lookout for a good PHP IDE and stumbled upon Komodo IDE. Never in my life have I asked for a refund so fast. Crashed at the most random times, such as when opening files and folders. Even accessing the settings could cause it to crash. Besides that I found it slow af.3
-
Always fun to come back to an older project to update stuff only to find your IDE and SDK updates have broke your old code base and you now need to debug and update a lot more then you initially wanted to. 😣1
-
Person : Today you worked for 18 hours. What did you accomplish?
Me : I did no progress in the code base.
Person : How is that possible? You were on the IDE all the time.
Me : When you have a huge package pulled in, that takes 3 hours to build, for every single change you do,
And the build path is screwed :D2 -
What IDE to use on Ubuntu?
Hey guys, just recently started getting into Ubuntu & Linux, and I need some recommendations for a good IDE (or just an editor). I want to program C, C++ as main priorities, but want an IDE that isn't locked to only one language :) Been looking at Sublime Text, and while it looks cool and easy to use, I'd prefer something that didn't require a license..
Hope you guys can help out, any help is appreciated :)20 -
I'm preparing slides for my "Vim in an IDE world" talk right now. Do you use vim emulation plugins inside Intellij-based or any other IDEs? What do you think about them? What can you recommend to the beginners?12
-
I have been discussing for quite a while now in a WhatsApp group what IDE is better, IntelliJ vs Eclipse. I personally prefer IntelliJ, for a lot of reasons. But what is your opinion, what are the pros/cons of each IDE for you?12
-
I absolutely fucking hate Xcode, the pile of shit ide. Even when I set the default ide for Java files it STILL FUCKING OPENS XCODE FFS.

Online java IDE suggestions?
My (non-dev) job is boring and I tend to have a lot of downtime, any suggestions?2 -
Who else noticed Jetbrains is selling the exact fucking same IDE a bunch of times with different plugins? Intellij Idea is essentially the same IDE as Gogland or PHPStorm, just with different plugins, yet they want money for every single IDE separately...8
-
Light Ide:- GRHH!! M hurt! M hurt! My life is nothing...M a noob...
Dark ide:- woaahh!! Pleasant! M a pro coder3 -
I read the other day here about people not reading the error messages shown by the IDE and thought "there can't be people this dumb..."
Well, today I was helping a friend out with his java project and he was trying to figure out an error for at least 10 min so I told him, read the error message, he goes like nah, that won't help, I kept repeating it till he did it and guess what? The explanation was there and helped him figure out the problem.
His excuse? He didn't have the patience to read the message, it was 2 lines long...
How can you be so stupid to the point where your first thought isn't checking out the damn message the IDE gives you? It's there for a fucking reason.1 -
So i was commenting on a rant by some user where we had this conversation about IDEs and editors...
Point: Intellij has an option to set a background to the whole ide which gives coding a unique experience instead of the pale dull solid color background.
Go to Settings > Appearance > Background image is in the main appearance tab click and set the image, position, transparency ... And voila u have a background image on your editor.
Alternative way just go to settings and search for background image12 -
Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my hard drive… and my RAM… even my keyboard. The IDE I’ve lost… the consumers I’ve lost… won’t stop hurting… It’s like they’re all still there. You feel it, too, don’t you?3
-
Best and worse IDE feature for you.
Me :
IDE : VS2019
Best : Conditional break points (cf image)
Worst : Git branches management (For example : can’t delete multiple branches at the same time)14 -
Starts search and replace.
Trys to replace a type in the whole Project.
Syntax Check: lol no, apparently everything is broken now, good job
(literally my whole project was marked red)
Reverts changes
(project still marked red)
Syntax Check: lol what? Your code already looked like shit before, won't let you compile this.
It was a bug which breaks the syntax check after big replace requests. Had to start a new project and copy my code step for step, so it didn't break again. However I've forgotten to replace the type before I copy...
Another story regarding this shit:
Renames Variable
IDE: oh, let me help you by replacing all old var names with the new one
Agrees
IDE: oh shoot, didn't know it could break things
Wants to revert
IDE: did you think I would go through this mess again?! Do it yourself!3 -
Vim + Tmux = Heaven. I love it.
I'm also getting better at the hotkeys (and there are A LOT of them) so it's a really nice experience when you can do things faster than using a IDE. I only missed the auto complete, so it's very very hard sometimes (DB connection for example).
I may look crazy for going back on time using it but it's so good i can't stop.2 -
How do you type with pairs of characters like () [] <> "" etc.?
Do you type them both, then move the cursor back and type the stuff inside or do you type the first of the pair, then type the stuff inside and then close it with the second of the pair?
I just realized I do both techniques, apparently randomly, which weirds me out.
Also my IDE often places the second character of the pair automatically.10 -
Been doing java for years now, and finally got to trying out an IDE. Been using VIM and notepad++ for ages, and tried Netbeans. It honestly frustrates me, is this where it's at, or is there something a bit more user friendly? Google yes I know, but Googles opinions are about as reliable as Bill Clinton around Monica Lewinski6

IDEs vs Text Editors? Wanted to get your opinions.
IDE- code suggestion(auto completion), easier to configure build options
Text editors- minimalistic and...?12 -
Sorry in advance if we are not supposed to ask questions but: in your opinion, what's the best IDE for Linux? Other than Netbeans12

Changing from vscode to Visual Studio, because new team has C# projects.
Changing ide is very painful.9 -
My friend complain to me Python tutorial on YouTube doesn't work. He can't import any packages. I looked at it and found that he installed package into one Python version while his IDE is using another version installed in his machine.
And then I even find third one in another location...2 -
God I hate vscode
it keeps giving me a pop-up telling me I don't have a php environment setup
I have no interest in using php. that's why I don't.
and now apparently the git interface got changed. I don't want stupid random changes
and frequently in some part of the IDE it'll say error but then not show up where the error file is for example
Microsoft bought GitHub and all the atom people said they were gonna kill atom and push their vscode, everyone called them paranoid, Microsoft released a statement saying they weren't gonna kill atom. a year later they killed atom. so now I have to use this stupid vscode shit. and if you go anywhere asking for an IDE suggestion and you mention "not Microsoft" the mods will literally ban you for "being political"
how about I just don't want a bloated goddamned IDE that I don't control
in atom I could just uninstall other languages packages. actually atom didn't even come with them, they were optional. vscode, like all other shitty ass IDEs, is increasingly coming with everything and the kitchen sink -- and only one version, Microsoft's, so if you don't like it fuck you
atom was so good because it was modular. they fucking killed it. and we're back to bloated shit. I guess because if shit is bloated you can argue "we need all this data from you" and so they fucking bloat to justify themselves15 -
Using a light themed IDE is like being a waitress and using high heels.
Light themed IDE doesn't make you look hotter though...9 -
I've been a user of NetBeans IDE for PHP for quite sometime. I use it both at work and at home for personal projects. Lately I haven't done many personal projects so I fired it up on my Mac only to find it utilising 100% of all my CPU cores. This has always been an issue with NetBeans for years and it just seems like they can't be bothered to fix it.
So now I'm on the search for a replacement. At work now I use PHPStorm, but the $200 yearly license for small personal projects is a bit much. So for the time being I'm going to be trying out Atom with the ide-php package. It's a shame really as NetBeans is one of the good IDEs out there, but it's such a resource hog that I'm not sure how people can do any work on it.4 -
Anyone please recommend any JAVA IDE to develop desktop applications which support drag and drop control supper like Visual Studio?18

What's a good IDE for Java? I have used Eclipse and NetBeans in the past, but for whatever reason Eclipse won't set up right on my machine and I am not a fan of NetBeans' console display thingy. (OR at least I wasn't in 2009)
I am applying for a teaching gig but they teach in Java so I want to knock the rust off.12 -

Which IDE do people prefer in here? I myself use Sublime for everything other than C# development, in which case I use VS.16

I was wondering what do you guys think about companies which dictates which ide devs have to use.
In my opinion every dev should use what he or she can utilize best no matter if a free or paid license is required for the ide.10 -
Man I seriously hate my Eclipse, started ok out of the box, but holy fuck It's become slow. Want to place a breakpoint in your big ass project that is not even running? Got your back, just give me 10 seconds, what? you renamed a local variable? let me just check the full project and rebuild the workspace again.
I would switch but since we are using Jboss and any modern IDE requires the premium version to support Jboss and management wont pay the license I'am stuck.3 -
!rant
Anybody else here code from their smartphone? When I'm afk I type ideas into Evernote (slowly, of course), but I'd love a good mobile IDE.3 -
If you were to work on pure JavaScript code for local and web development, what IDE would you use? Not a quality question, I'm looking for personal opinions mainly.9
-
I wish I could start my web based Brainfuck IDE with single stepping and breakpoints, as well as code formatting. I wrote it as a Java desktop application 2 years ago with no comments and I've never touched it since.
-
I was browsing google news when i saw a new IDE similar to Visual Code, it is built based on rust, it starts with pcle or pcie i tried hard to find it but i lost it even my damn phone browser didn't save it in history, anyone knows what I'm talking about please 🥺 ?9

Looking for a easy to learn and well developed ide for php and wordpress development. Atom phpstorm and zend arr on my list and money isn't really an issue.5

Anyone here uses vim as an ide? I just read about it and was wondering if that is possible ... And if it really works well ...
I know, if I want an ide I should use an actual ide, but I thought this might be interesting, since vim is so powerful like everyone said.10 -
Do you use any other IDEs as Android Studio or Eclipse? I dont wanna use Eclipse and AS is to buggy :(. I only search an good ide for Android dev (using java)13
-
When the compile works fine but IDE doesn't link regardless of settings.
With this many errors I think it's telling me CPP is wrong4 -
Are there any good plugins/tools or something for visual studio 15 to turn it into a good IDE for PHP developing?
I'm using Brackets now, i tried Eclipse, PhpStorm (too slow and only a 30 day trial) and Atom so far. But idk, theres always something that makes me thinking like "nah.. thats not the right for me". Now i wanted to try VS. I used it for C++ developing and was pretty much in love with it.6 -
Question for school:
When (if) you use Java what IDE or text editor do you like to use? Also what do you use for work (if you program in Java)?
Personally I like to use intellij but the school default is NetBeans (prob cause it's free).
Thx everyone13 -
"Best IDE" for C? I'd like an IDE which works on both Linux(Ubuntu) and windows? Does such a thing exist?8
-
Ok bois it's IDE / Text Editor time again.
I have had my fair share of usage with VSCode and i have been using VIM for over a year now.
With Vim i miss intellisense, class lookups etc.
VSCode doesn't provide the macro abilities i like in VIM and also doesn't support every edge case of file (giant files for instance).
Now i am at a certain dilemma. Do i use VSCode? Vim?
I am seriously considering trying emacs, but i don't know much about it.
What is your take on this?
Please respect each others choice, i don't want another fucking IDE religion war4 -
I see a lot of people here coding using terminal editors like vim. Isn’t it better to use an IDE rather than vim? How do people in the industry do it?3
-
What hurts you the most?
1. Breakup
2. IDE with White Background
3. HTTPS://DUCKDUCKGO.COM (Caps Url)
4. Download failed at 99%
5. NULL Pointer Exception

Any good rust-IDE's out there? There's an atom-plugin that's ok imo and i found an eclipse-based IDE, but for that i have to set up a shitton of things.
How do you develop in rust?13 -
Youjuat don't need an IDE for simple HTML and CSS .....i get irritated when someone burns the whole house to kill a rat.(IDE logic)6

I'm using jetbrains IDE products from over an year now. I'm hooked. They're perfect.
But...
I'm looking for a replacement (don't ask why). Tried a few, netbeans seems to be closest to them (still very far).
Recently came across Visual Studio Code. Seems amazing, and very close to jetbrains.
Has anyone tried it? Any other recommendations?
I need IDE for: front-end (including React, sass, JS, etc.) And PHP
Don't recommend Sublime or Atom. Just don't. Or vim.
PS: should be free or close to free.3 -
What's your favorite open source Python IDE? I'm looking for something relatively simple. I'm uaing Komodo Edit, but it doesn't seem to do the trick for providing information about modules that have been imported, it tries, but it isn't reliable.4

A couple of months ago I bought a two year licence for PHPStorm but shortly after I started this new job as React Web developper and everyone in my new team has been using Visual Studio Code with a specific set of plugins and settings which make I my premium IDE useless.
What an investment I did.7 -
I want to switch from Window$ on my laptop to Linux of some kind and I need some c/c++ IDE. I thought about CLion but I want some of your's recommendations.5
-
Typing a quick terminal command. Didn't work. Type it again. Didn't work. Look at your IDE. Goddammit!
-
I'm going to sleep knowing that tomorrow will be another shitty day. But, at least, I use notepad for writing sources instead of some real IDE
-
I always did amusing those discussions about development IDE . People seem to worship software like if it is a god or like if it really matters which one you use.1
-
As a student, am I the only one that surfs the internet for a significant amount of time to find out the best IDE for a specific programming language, only to then install multiple of them and test them out myself? The ones I don't stick with are still collecting dust in my laptop... dunno why I don't uninstall them.1
-
So I have to endure Java Programming lab once a week.
The computers in the lab have Windows XP.
You're not allowed to install additional software.
There's eclipse installed.
But no. You cannot use eclipse. You are FORCED to use J FUCKING GRASP.
WHAT SORT OF DERANGED TEACHER WOULD USE SUCH A DISGRACE OF AN IDE?????1 -
This fucking IDE
You can't look at the Values you want by default. You have to add them manually. And when you add a too big number of Values at the same time that fucking garbage called Software crashes...
Holy shit -
Finally decided to learn back C++ programming and trying to download CodeBlocks IDE from SourceForge.
SourceForge temporary offline.
Oh well......2 -
Addicted to Visual Studio for past 10 years. Looking out for IDE which can be an alternative on Linux...
Any recommendation of IDE for a Linux Noob ?11 -
Starting a new job. The people are cool. They explain me the project. I open my computer and I’m not admin of it. Why it’s not automatic to add dev like admin of the machine. It’s fun to pass the first day of work waiting to learn the job. Please let me install my IDE and tools that I need to work with.10

Before I dive into it myself, has anyone here used the LightTable IDE?
Thoughts & comments/experiences?1 -
Fuck XCode. Worst IDE ever. Forgot to declare namespace for function in cpp file and it can't even underline it. And in addition to that, the slowest IDE!!!1
-
How do you handle your configurations of your prompt, ide, etc especially when changing or reinstall the pc? Do you use something similar to git repos with dot files or are there other good methods to manage all of this?1
-
holy crap! i really am used to light themed ide. for some reason i played around last time and left it dark. now i just used it for twenty minutes. then i found the color scheme kind of strange and wanted to switch back to good old light theme.
seems i have to get used to the new colour scheme. ouch. -
Any recommendations for a C/C++ IDE for Linux.
I really like PyCharm and IntelliJ for python and java but can't afford to splash out on CLion for C++.
Eclipse is completely out, I have too much of that at work and it is a total pain.
My current solution would be vim and clang but I'd like something more IDE like.10 -
It seems odd that in a world where Web developers are mostly developing api first there are no tools that allow you to browse an unfinished but already authenticated REST api.
I would really like to have one but programming a full IDE/Project manager sounds like too big of a project.6 -
interesting conversation with the department head at my college (I'm a graduating senior): for incoming freshmen with no programming experience, do you think we should be teaching them to use a nice IDE, or start them with just a decent text editor and command line?
I was trying to convince the department head that we shouldn't show them an IDE until they've got the basics of command line down, and understand that a lot of what an IDE does is just abstraction of the command line.8 -
JetBrains Rider
"A cross-platform .NET IDE based on the IntelliJ platform and ReSharper"
Oh man...👍🏼 -
What is your preferred IDE?
I feel the most comfortable in Visual Studio and have heard from many others that VS is their IDE of choice, but I've also heard other people shame VS users and opt for something like Notepad++ or even no IDE at all, just a basic text editor. Granted, I'm not gonna back down from VS, I love it, but I really want to hear what other people like to use?13 -
Which is the best IDE or text editor to do coding in Android phones !!!??
Feeling lazy to open the laptop !! 😋12 -
Never used an IDE in my life... recommend one appropriate for the MEAN stack. I want to see the magical benefits people claim it gives7
-
Do you put Caps to public variable ?
My IDE was doing caps to public variable but someone told me that he was wrong it's not caps for public variable only functions.9 -
!rant i am starting to learn react, what ide do the fellows devranters use? Actually i'm using visul studio ide for c#, but i don't know if it's good for react4

I still haven't manage to transition from Notepad++ to Sublime although the former is crap and I ranted about it already several months ago. I just can't seem to find the time it takes to configure Sublime to my likings. It seems like a great IDE, but it's hell to set up an FTP browser like the one in Notepad++. Of course I have googled (or rather binged) the problem, and tried suggested solutions but still no joy. How hard can it be to just set up an FTP connection to my web host and browse its directories/files in a sidepane? How do I achieve this, anyone have good advice to share?3
-
Everyone have their favourite IDE, but to me Plunker😊 has been a great one it has hell of capabilities and don't forget about the themes it has.. *dark mode* 👌
Every damn time I wanna make sample code ..voila plunker it is ! Best for Mean stack development 👈
Am I the only one who loves it ??1 -
VSCode offers to install the official MSSQL plugin as "recommended plugins for MySQL" without informing the user that they're getting fucked over. I tolerate very few deliberate minor inconveniences designed to influence my product choice, so what are my options for a reasonably scriptable, yet stable open source IDE with a good set of plugins?6
-
What are some features of an IDE, which I can not have when using a text editor? More precisely why should I use Visual Studio, instead of VS Code or Atom?5
-
Random idea for the day.
An IDE plugin that allows intentionally mixing syntax from different programming languages in invalid ways within the same file.
BUT corrects code blocks to the right way by checking each code block detected as invalid say every thirty seconds. Generating code that is equivalent in output to the incorrectly specified code.
Any takers?2 -
Friendly request
Hi devs
What's the title on your IDE?
As the image below shows, mine is "{Project} - Microsoft Visual Studio"
I'm basically looking to see if most (if not all) IDEs has their program name in the title.
Thanks5
