This is what our university recommends as reading material for databases. I'm still in denial that this exists.31

dfox: "Let me make life easier for them. Introducing tab bar!"
users: "tab bar is hard to reach on top. please move it to the bottom"
dfox: "But you never complained when the hamburger was at the top-left corner. nvm I'll do it"
users: "ugh, where is the material design. Move the tab bar to the top. Make it scrollable"
dfox: "sudo rm -rf /users"20 -
just when u have a meeting to rush to, this little shit updates. all my presentation material is on this fuckin thing. FUCK! arghjfbggghhh32

Had an interest in IT security some time ago, so I downloaded some tools to experiment a little and research to get some first hand experience since a lot of the course material we have at work is too vague....
Guess who got a visit from the police 👮

Progress on my UWP file explorer! Here's some screenshots. I really enjoy the Acrylic material, and my favorite page is the "There's nothing here" page because it came out EXACTLY as I wanted it. More images in the comments!31

When you start a project...
What you should think about :
- What does it do?
- How should I make it?
- What should I need?
What EVERY SINGLE OF YOU think about :
- What should I call it?
- Do I need a logo?
- Lemme sketch some design features. Maybe Material Design looks nice.
(lol)7 -
So today I decided to switch to angular 4(material) on a project I had done. I have to say I am shocked by the sheer size of the node modules dependencies I have to install. Why wouldn't they just ship it all in one package. 😤 I had to install the client, material SDK, animations etc and all this is happening over shit sub-saharan Africa internet speed. I have been setting up for the past 5 hours and I'm only halfway through. If anyone reading this rant has a company that works to bring internet to Africa please hurry. We need you.4

Got annoyed by the super bright default theme of the Arduino IDE. Decided to make a dark theme for it! Turned out pretty well!
Unfortunately there is no official way of themeing right now, therefore I had to edit some files in the program's directory, which was a pain in the ass to do... (and kinda scary)
I tried to adapt the Material Theme in Sublime Text btw.
Here's a comparison:24 -

Cool. 300$ in Google Cloud credits. Maybe I can get to one of those cool projects I’ve been wanting to get to.
spins up server
installs npm
installs mongo
installs express
installs vue
installs material design components
makes title bar and navigation
*okay, good enough for now, i’ll come back later*
*never gets around to it, and 300$ in free credits get exhausted by server running 24/7*13 -

Sandra, calm the fuck down. You have a website with some reading material, a form and a few buttons. Get over yourself.2 -
I just released a package that lets you use Fluent Design's Acrylic material in react if anyone is interested 🙂 I love this effects, looks really cool if you ask me 😃

I gave lift to an old man. Starting the conversation
He: what do you do?
Me: I am a software engineer
He: Nice....... where do you get the material to build a software?
Me: mmmmm google or stackoverflow
He: maybe they are new in market, never heard of them5 -
preface: swearing.
because anger.
So. I'm trying to use Material Design with Material UI. The components and UI look *great*.
It's from google, though, which really pisses me off. but I like what I can do with the UI.
HOWEVER.
I really want a grid system for responsiveness. because obviously. besides, i really hate doing all the responsive shit myself. it sucks and i hate it.
Material Design does not include a grid system. okay, it includes a grid component, but it's not for site layout. it's for making a grid of images. or something.
What it does include is a lot of very lengthy documentation on what you should do, complete with fancy graphics saying "THIS IS HOW YOU MUST DO IT OR YOU'RE DOING IT ALL WRONG" -- but they don't actually support it! you must do it all yourself.
Why oh why would they tell you how you must do things if they don't provide the tools to make it possible? fucking google.
You might decide it's a grand idea to interject at this moment and say: "there are plenty of tools out there that allow you to do this!" And sure, you'd be right. however -- and i think this might just barely might be worth mentioning -- THEY REALLY FUCKING SUCK. Hey, let's look at some of the classes! So clear and semantic! This one was nice and simple: "xs4" -- but wtf does that mean? okay, it apparently means 4 columns as they'd appear on an extra-small layout. How does that work on a large layout? Who knows. Now, how about "c12"? okay, maybe 12 columns? but how does that display on a phone with a layout small enough to only have 4 columns? i don't know! they don't know! nobody knows!
oh oh oh oh. and my particular favorite: "mdc-layout-grid__cell mdc-layout-grid__cell--align-bottom" WHAT. THE. FUCK. I'm not writing a goddamn novel! and that one claims to be from google itself. either they've gone insane or someone's totally lying. either way, fuck them.
SO. TERRIBLENESS ASIDE.
Instead of using Material Design v0.fuckoff that lacks any semblance of a grid layout, I figure I'll try v1.0 alpha that actually has one supported natively. It's new and supports everything I need. There's no way this can't be a good idea.
The problem is, while it's out and basically usable, none of the React component libraries fucking work with it. Redux-Form doesn't work with it either because it doesn't understand nested compound controls, and hacking it to work at least triples the boilerplate. So, instead, I have to use some other person's "hey, it's shitty but it works for me" alpha version of someone else's project that works as a wrapper on top of Redux-Form that makes all of this work. yeah, you totally followed that. Kind of like a second-cousin-twice-removed sort of project adding in the necessary features and support all the way down. and ofc it doesn't quite work. because why would things ever be easy?
like seriously, come on.
What i'm trying to do isn't even that bloody hard.
Do I really have to use bootstrap instead?
fuck that.
then again, fuck this significantly more.
UGH.18 -
Got a call from Google!
Asked for two months to study: Discrete mathematics, Calculus, introductions to algorithms, design patterns, CTCI and linux/unix OS workings in general.
I know I'll be banging my head against the wall and I don't have my expectations too high. But regardless I feel like this is a good excuse to speed up my studies and push myself in the direction I want to go already. It'll be a win-win even if I don't land the position because I'll definitely gain a ton in the process of preparing.
I will be expose to all of this material (except for calculus because I've been learning it for a couple of months) for the first time so I know it'll be a challenge and I am looking forward to it.
If any of you have any tips on good study habits that'll be much appreciated; I currently like to read most of my material and supplement with videos/tutorials... Khan is great but they lack material on discrete mathematics unfortuantely. Thanks in advance!
Wish me luck (:8 -
I created website for a client, with sleek material design.
He told me that the website was too flat and needed more shadows and gradients to make it more modern and 3D.8 -
devRant has rose astronomically to become my favorite bathroom browsing material. Thanks for making poops that much better, everyone!6

It's 5 in the morning, but I fucking did it.
The dashboard of my CMS is fucking done and functional. And it's gorgeous as fuck.9 -
You'd think that with OLED screens becoming the norm for smartphones people would start offering dark themes in their apps to save a bit of battery and prevent burn-ins, but NOPE there comes Google with their material design and everything is suddenly brighter than the sun, especially YouTube where 3/4th of the screen is static most of the time.
Thank God you can still mod things.6 -

Material-UI.
I'm exhausted, so I'll keep this short.
I changed a TextField to a TimePicker, and noticed my className prop didn't apply anymore.
I thought it was my mui/redux-form wrapper for that component since I had just written it, but that was basically a straight copy/paste from the other wrappers, and both receives and passes the prop just fine.
After a lot of fighting, I finally found a workaround: if I add a `data-work-you-piece-of-garbage` prop alongside it, only then will the className show up on the rendered element. Why? I have no freaking clue. I tested it three times and got the same results. I looked through the MUI source and it still doesn't make any sense.
Fucking whatever, only three hours wasted.13 -
Google Chrome has adopted material design. Expecting a change request from the client to change it back to how it looked before.1

I feel like everyone likes material design nowadays - am I the only one who just doesn't think it looks very good?10

I bought Minecraft back in 2007 or 8. It was $20 and gave me access to Minecraft forever, all updates included.
Today Microsoft closed all the old mojang accounts and I no longer have access to Minecraft. I could have migrated to a Microsoft account, but it will be a cold day in hell if I ever open one of those.
Sounds like law suit material. Class action anyone?12 -
This my friends is Chrome (build Canary).
Material Design 2.0 is here.
P.S. Only available for Windows.22 -
Would it be a bad idea if I mention my biggest project is a Discord bot supplying explicit material to a total of 7000 servers on my CV?
Honestly unsure.13 -
So I got 10 days of national holidays now starting tomorrow, gonna learn some PowerBI and neural network for college paper material. Problem is my brain just not fuckin good enough to absorb all of this algorithm. Fuck brain12

My favourite side project that I built solo is called Chat Journal, it's a simple and elegant, one-of-a-kind chat-based journal/notes application for android, built with flutter.
Almost spent around 3 months building and improving the app (and still publishing updates every 2 weeks). It literally defines what I've done outside of work for the past few months.
Do check it out and let me know what you think about it ☺️

Boss set me up for a last minute certification to prepare for next years new projects. Went through a lot of material in just two days, then had to take the exam immediately after the last class ahead of everyone else. Aced it!^^
What surprised me the most though is how much I still enjoy learning new stuff (wasn't even tech), even after 8 yrs on the job..4 -
Reactdev, what kind of ui library that usually you guys use and really easy to understand? Something like material ui, react-table or anything like that. I just need a really easy components library that I can use for small projects22

An app that helps students study by generating custom flashcards from text analyzed & parsed in pictures taken of textbook material.8

Someone put my name on a mailing list for pornographic material to try to get me fired from my new job6

Professor: You may use all the offline material on your computer while taking the exam
Me: Downloads 50 stack overflow and tutorials point pages as PDF just in case I get an error I can't solve or forget basic syntax
At least we don't have to do it on paper...
I hate the thought of getting stuck on something that would require 5 seconds of Googling to solve during an exam :/10 -
Do anyone else have major focus issues? When I'm enjoying something, I can focus completely for a long time. But when I'm miserable, 15 minutes seems to be the maximum I can focus.
It's really hard when you have long passages to read for class and are unable to focus long enough to actually absorb the material.
I really want to try ADHD medicine, but I don't want to rely on it to focus.8 -
Our prof told us today in a zoom lecture: "Never visit b-ok.org, it is totally illegal", with emphasis on how he would NEVER recommend to visit that website for free education illegally.
I guess he is totally against the idea of pirating educational material15 -
I wrote a VBA script for a manufacturing plant. It made a quote, ran a nesting program, generated a dwg file, placed tool paths, created the work order and material part count, and finally out put to the cnc machine. It worked great it reduced a 10hr process to about 20min. So they cut my hours to less than 20 a week. I quit on "Bosses Day" to start my own company.2

Dev trends themselves.
The more buzzworthy the better, tons of material to rant about and hot air to sell.
(No offense to the ones who actually do this tho),3 -
Does anyone want to take this stupid exam for me? I keep missing it on practice exams by 1 question. I'm sad. I know if i gave a damn about this material, i could do it. But i don't give a damn. It's required for my current position but I'm about to switch teams in a few months and will no longer need it.24
-
Just started a new job! No rant material so far, I'm just grateful, i was out of work because of the 'rona4

People on devRant: "it took me 1/2/3 hours to fix that bug, omg, what a time waste!!"
Me: *wrestles some bugs for 1/2/3 DAYS*
I'm confused, how is fixing a bug within hours a ranting material...?11 -
Most of our university courses are stuck in the early 2000. Feels like it's mostly due to lazy professors who just use the same material year after year.
What do you think?
It feels like I'm not learning anything useful anymore. Should get out of here ASAP.10 -
Honestly these icons are really nice and are a good medium between clean and defined. I think Material failed as a whole to accomplish the paper look but this is very well done and has subtle but not 2008-era giga-drop-shadow depth. Well done, weather app.1
-
Over 3 years since my last rant... you might think lifes been like.... 🍹😎
It hasn't!
But, it's good to be back here with fresh new material. 🍿
Buckle up... "Where we're going, we don't need..." managers!4 -
That moment you realise you spent the day skinning Jira to look like atoms material dark theme because a key system is down preventing testing😊
-
I love materializecss.com .. I love the concept and I don't know why, but I like it ways better than bootstrap. Materialize looks kinda fresh to me - not the classic Material Design. Aaaaaand it's very easy to work with it.5
-
Oh look a new chrome update!
*Installs update*
I regret everything!!!!
Come on Google I love material design but fuck me is the new update ugly... Besides the new tab page.7 -
This has been my semester so far:
Professor: "Please read this material for the next session"
*Next session arrives*
Professor: "Now I will repeat everything you've just read with no additional content"
I feel like this is a waste of my fucking time. I always read the material, because I enjoy the topics we're taught. But this is getting ridiculous... I have to endure it to get my master's degree though :/10 -
Check out my web calculator designed with Google Material Design 😀😀

I'm so sick of being forced to use CSS frameworks at work. Every time I see one of those HTML elements with 87 terribly-named CSS classes, I want to scream and break something
What's wrong with Vanilla CSS? Why is it so unpopular to just stick with plain CSS, I feel like I'm infinitely more productive when I can just write out some short CSS than trying to wrangle the dumbass CSS framework to do what I want it to do. Even things like Vuetify make me lose my mind with the stupid shit you have to do to get it to behave how you want it
Also, Material Design is ugly as hell to me16 -
Uno Questione:
I "Bought" a copy of O'reilly's Learning Python. How much of the 1200 page monster is actually necessary/good learning material? Anyway, have a snek.2 -
Linux Distro with dark material design and all basic apps like browser, file manager etc also materialized and platform for developers to develop apps for this distro so that their apps look and work perfect in it!8

Just started a new job and am looking through the code base. I think I'll have plenty of material for this site at least. 🙃

My new helper arrived. Note! Check your packing material for the santa hat! I almost threw mine away thinking it was forgotten.
Thanks guys!4 -
So management posted an article "10 signs you suck at your job" in the lunch room. It's pretty passive-aggressive; I wish I could find the link to it somewhere to post here.
Would you post the similar article "10 signs you're not management material" in there as well?8 -
Aint a rant, but pulsar player has the best fucking implementation of the material design ive ever seen, everything is perfectly flat and still alive aaah4

So, for the past...what, week or so? I've been working on a side project with @gianlu. It's the PretendYoureXyzzy fork - our attempt to rejuvenate an old shitty piece of software.
I had started working on a fork alone, and then he asked to team up so I was like "Sure, I got nothing better to do." So, he's working on the backend (and hooking JS up to the backend) and I'm developing the frontend.
I don't know why I thought tech would stand still. Google says they're putting MDL on life support and replacing it with a much more complex successor, MDC. It's not hard to use, but what really bugs me is the lack of notice on getmdl.io. If you are switching to another project as your main focus, why the fuck wouldn't you advertise in the most places possible?
Granted, I don't do web design and/or development on the daily. Yes, I can do it, but I'm not always as up-to-date with web technologies as I'd like to be.
However, the screencap captured is the third time I've taken the knife to the UI. MDC is great tooling, at least to me. That dialog? Not something MDL would've had out the box on the first day. You'd have to work for that.
I don't have an issue with MDC, I have an issue with the lack of PR around it.6 -
Love how DoD work requires sec+ certification but as you are learning the material you realize they don’t follow any procedures or practices.6

Things that happened yesterday according to Kiki's internal clock:

something kinda depressing about devrant is that, because of sexist bs, women have prime rant material, but this app is also full of sexist bs, so it ends up being kinda hostile towards a significant portion of the users233

Material Design on the web was not a good experience in my personal opinion. I see these spaces around the boxes that are too huge. The faded underlined input boxes are confusing, too. I'd rather prefer seeing a border all around the input box or something of similar representation than an underline with a distracting animation. Many also fail at placing the buttons with a transparent background on the right spot. I'd still prefer Semantic UI or something clean on my upcoming projects. To me, Material Design is really good for mobile interfaces though.5

Learning about UI/UX in Android makes me bored and sleepy.
I just want to program. Can't all these stuff be premade or something?3 -
I can’t remember shit
My code editor helps me a ton!!
I have most documentation offline.
Ask me to do shit in a job interview without Google or any reference material then the joke is on 🤡2 -
OpenAI is probably one of the most hypocritical companies in history. From the name, to how they copy other startups that build on top their platform, to how they use copyrighted material but prohibit others from using their model for training. I don;t understand how they are so celebrated when they engage in shady practices1

Hi, I just created this website ( for myself ). then thought, would be nice to get some feedbacks.
It can download videos, images, playlist, reels ( & you name it ) from Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Pinterest etc.
Created using NextJS, Material UI, usm-redux ( https://npmjs.com/package/... ), etc
Feel free to give it a try. Thanks17 -
Hot tip: if you are a company, don’t ever ever ever ever spend your money on an Optimizely academy course. They have the worst course material I have ever seen in my life, and the material is outdated by several years from exercise to exercise. And the training videos are literally just a recording of a live class with a couple students. They should pay me to sit through this fucking shitshow. It is not worth a single cent, but guess how much they charge for the course and certification?!?! $2300 😱🫣😂. It’s so fucking bad I want to kill myself. Whoever decided to pour as little effort into this as possible over at Optimizely, I hereby curse you to a 2300 painful deaths and I hope someone shoves a ice cold rod up your ass to wake you up. *slams keyboard*3
-
i think it's a waste of time and resources to memorize syntax and other stuff you can google. since we have a lot of material available, we should focus on logic, more abstract concepts, stuff you can't copy paste. well, I think that should be the way in every area, not only CS15

Google's new Material design, with more curvy elements with broad borders, woth cocky font ...... is UGLY as FUCK

Taking my security+ exam on Tuesday. Any advice on what to pay attention to?
I have 401 and 501 materials since I didn't know which I'd end up taking. I had to register for 501. I have friends who have passed 501 using 401 material.5 -
I still wonder why some certifications cost 200$+ just to answer some questions to get a PDF certificate without actually being trained or receiving studying material.9

During an internship, I had to use angular and angular material on a web app. I discovered the magic of 2way data-binding!1

Y'all know those classes where you get 100s on the assignments and understand the material, and participate in class discussions, but get low 50s on the tests?
yea. Fuck those classes.4 -
Everyone think google is trolling Apple’s notch. But as a software giant, google is tripped over css with its own material design🤦♂️11

I feel like adding a new section to my contract mentioning that any uninformed delay in response, payments, or material transfer would cost an additional fee per day (except on public holidays and weekends).
Any thoughts?2 -
Same as we look at some old pages and see "oh this is unstyled table layout, that is xHTML inline style - it's from the 20th century"
People will look at pages of today in like 20 years and be like "Oh gosh, the material design phase. - oh the apple-blur-copy-cat-phase, oldish HTML5 code, that's from the 2010-20-ies"4 -
code code and code. There's no better way to learn other than practicing the material learned from docs.1

PHPStorm is soo good! I like the integrated VCS, DB and Terminal (except the ugly cursor block). Also I like the powerful code autocompletion + material theme
But I will not ditch VS Code :)6 -
Why do teachers tend to not explain parts of their code?
I got some C++ material and example code for doing some rendering, and the material says "these parts are not important".
Guess what? If the whole thing does not compile when i remove the unimportant code, it was fucking important!2 -
I will never work in an open floor plan environment again.
The average salary is 6 figures and they can't even spring for sound deadening material on the concrete walls, nevermind cubicles.
Nothing says "I don't value your contribution to our product" quite like treating your engineers like cattle.4 -
Someone should pitch a new TV show centered around an internal dev shop of a large company and use devRant as source material. Years of available content.7
-
I didn't realise that so many people in a dev social space cannot differentiate SE from CS...
Also, lecturers should have some mandatory teaching training, just because you have an area of expertise, doesn't inherently imply an ability to teach the material to the students. Powerpoints, and endless incoherent monologues are the bane of my existence2 -
So I was designing a transformer and was looking up toroidal cores. The one I had in mind was made of a material the manufacturer calls “3E5”. Looking for a material datasheet I found a website with a download link for a material “300000”…
Dear web devs: How the fuck is that even possible? I can see what happened here but who thought whatever they were doing there was a good idea?9 -
Started new course called "Introduction to natural language processing" in uni. I am super bad at doing regular expressions and don't understand anything about them.
Saw the first weeks homework. Have to do i.e. some text cleanup with regex... I was sad. But now after reading the course material and trying some of the exercises I'm super excited since I'm actually doing something "real" with it.
Do you guys just love it when teaching material is well written? I do.3 -
A customer requested the graphic drafts for a website with a serious design. He left me the complete freedom. After six shot down including three drafts inspired to important designers and one inspired to material design, I decided to make something absurd asking the customer his favorite colors. I am ashamed to have created a design with shades of green, white, orange and yellow on a green background. He said it was fantastic.3

My boss thinks database = table
I hope it doesn't bring problems in the long run.
Any "web dev for CEOs" material you recommend?5 -
Looks like Google forgot how to do good UX / UI design.
1.
Why is the text in the appbar black, but all other icons (including the lock inside the textview) white. It would make sense, if the lock would be black too (as the textview is abit lighter than the appbar).
2.
Maps was way easier to use, before they invented MD Refresh. When you tap on a point on the map you get that info view at the bottom of the screen. Before it was a draggable window, which could be maximized with a swipe. Now you have to tap it, the box goes away and a new window appears, which is just the same as before MD-Refresh.
3.
In "Google Tasks" the activity title is not centered for some reason.12 -
Angular material is shit.
Angular material has literally no documentation. There is no search on their shit docs. And there is absolutely no info in their docs about some shit they use.
So when you need to know what the fuck does smth like MatOption mean (what inputs does this piece of fuck takes?) you will need to dig into the code.1 -
Why are there barely any material design based static site libraries using js and CSS -,-
Don't use node or anything so guess I'll be building my own 😁🔫16 -

Generally devs who are too arrogant to accept help or constructive criticism. There’s this data visualisation library that missed a specific feature that psychologists use quite frequently, so I added it myself and opened a PR. The maintainer closed it because people should use whatever he’d already implemented. It’s like not giving someone the option to listen to disco because rock music is better. Yeah, cool story bro. Now all my visualisation projects depend on my fork instead. Same with the now abandoned Material Design Library devs. They didn’t have a drop down with free input, so I opened a PR with my solution. Closed as it was out of scope, simply because Google didn’t specifically include that in the Material specs, only an input and a drop down separately which my solution matched. I also opened a PR for an obviously missing feature (being able to validate forms via JS), closed as this behaviour wasn’t in the Material specs either. No wonder MDL died before it was ever finished.4

Just needed a good looking material os datepicker - ended up wrestling with react, webpack, npm and gulp. 3 hours later, ta-da, I have a datepicker! webdesign nowadays...
-
I was messing with my lemonbar + i3status config (with sway), when I decided to ditch i3status entirely and generate a status line using pure Awk. Battery is calculated from /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0, got workspaces (Material Design Icons) working, have a nice dated, and all colors match Solarized Dark from Vim. Have underlines, highlights etc. setup.
It's so beautiful :)4 -
I want to create a website with matierial design.
Which CSS framework should I use if I want to keep it simple ?22 -
Hey Linux users!
I'm coming from a pure Windows background, and is going to make the change to Linux:Debian this weekend, and is looking for recommendations on material for learning commands and other possible features the OS might contain.
Working mostly with web dev and some Datawarehouse/BI applications.
Hoping for a smooth transition!5 -
I have my computer architecture midterm in about 3 hours and I understand almost half of the material. Wish me luck, I'll need it!3

Hello there devranters, long time no see
I have a question for all the computer scientists and students out there. Do you have book recommendations especially for the maths part? I'm in the process of buying some books, they're very expensive but if I'm going to buy they might as well be useful books.8 -
The new Android messages color changes using Google material design 2 looks like the Easter Bunny shat all over my phone.3
-
Anybody used material-ui/react components and wanted to punch whoever wrote this shit in the face? Whats the fucking point of a ux framework where you have to style everything you're fucking self?3
-
What happened to the buttons on top of my smartphone after updating to Android 12?
How did everything get so clunky?
How to turn off the labels and simply display 4 icons in a row like it used to be before?8 -
Users have use cases, test cases, user manual etc documented material with them at the time of UAT.
But in the end users do only those things which they don't suppose to do..!! 😑😥1 -
This has been said before, but i'm gonna be honest with you here, straight from the bottom of my heart
Fuck the new chrome design is fucking repulsive, when did material == rounded corners.
This design reminds me more of what facebook is trying to do with their grotesque messenger.5 -
Marketing material for a RasPi-based device that, supposedly, secures all your traffic from hackers by (translated) "encrypting traffic to your router" and "sharding and dispersing your data, so nobody can read it".
Stay tuned to see what it actually does (waiting for an email reply from it's creator)6 -
I'm sure I speak for a lot of us when I say: LET ME HAVE A LIFE!!!
Management treating us like candy machines, wanting more and more features, learn this, learn that, learn complex material. HEY I'D LIKE TO ENJOY MY TIME AFTER WORK YA KNOW.
etc.4 -
Is anyone else annoyed and / or bothered with how google handles the publishing of apps on its store.
Like I have an account for a client with the clients name and all other his data. I publish a new app on his account with the same name as his account and the app gets rejected for copyright violation because the name and material are copyrighted to the client who is publishing the app.
This is the scenario:
Lets call the client Luis, and he has a developer account named Luis with email luis@luis.com
And the app is called Luis, but when I tried to publish it it was rejected because it contains copyrighted material from Luis.
Wtf?!?!???
Like I understand they need to protect the store from fake apps and all, but how do I give myself the permission to use something I own ?
And now I need to find a way for a client to make a contract from him to him for his material so that google will publish the app -
Heyo, it's me. That fool who always says shit about unity.(:
So.. i just got my first real hands-on down, and phew, i gotta say.. I overestimated that heap of bullshit.
It's not like there are basic concepts of gamedev, framebased ticking and stuff like that since before the fucking gameboy - nope - let's do shit different. More ... Shit. First, we invent something new. Lets call it "prefab". None of these fuckers is going to know what that shit is.
What next.. oh the new-keyword. That's bullshit, all languages use it. Lets make Instanciate(). That's the stuff.
On we go, scenes. Most shit is statically created beforehand and used by scripts glued to stuff. Hell that so neat actually. Creating materials beforehand and then we can just load em!(:
NOPE. yo bro your Material where u used one of those loading-methods is null. We ain't telling you whats wrong, cus you know.. Load() returning null is like completely normal, why throwing an exception?
Oh and btw, it needs to be in ./Resources/, but it wont make any difference.
So now you want to google your problem, eh? Forget it. The Forums only answer on stuff like "how to add 2 numbers in unity" and the guide shows you how you did it, but they say it works that way.
Dude holy shit, of course this is a buhuuu i don't know how to do shit rant because i feel like good 8-10 years of dev experience collected while not doing homework for school were for fucking nothing.:b
And i have to use it.
Subjective Opinion: Unity was made by crackheads.7 -
So was starting to get to used to and warm up to material design 2 or as I like to call it "Fischer price baby's first UI, bubble edition" and then Google fucking drop this shit for Gmail .-.9

Anyone able to link me to some good reading material on compilers, interpreters, emulation and CPU design?
Keen to actually get some of this knowledge under my belt, don't mind if it requires a little investment as long as it isn't written in (fucking) python, preferably C if anyone knows of anything.
Thanks guys! :-D9 -
Just updated my Android one device to Android 10. Ughh, the worst design in the history of Android. Weird status bar icons, ugly fonts and worst possible color combination choices for both dark and light themes.
Google should go back to its colorful lollypop material designs instead of making more and more robotic icons :/3 -
As a designer, I don’t really like material design.. but I’m dabbling with vuetify and i must say, it’s dope. And is making my life better3
-
let's try something new
(virtualbox only right now - i kinda sorta lost all my isos due to not paying attention to which drive i was writing one to, and accidentally wrote over the drive with the isos 😥 { as well as all of my school material, and game projects. }... i really need a server to back things up to, y'know?4 -

P.S : I also need to work harder as I barely know the surface of Linear Regression.1 -
Tailwind css offers a premium package where you have to pay $300 for access to their tailwind styling components. And even additional $150 and $150 and $150 packages depending if your app is for ecommerce application ui or marketing etc.
WTF????
While in Angular Google has provided 100% FREE MATERIAL DESIGN UI COMPONENTS
WHO THE FUCK PREFERS TO CODE IN REACT/NEXTJS/VUE over ANGULAR???23 -
With the recommendation of some from here I went ahead and set up the Material Theme on my IntelliJ and I have to say, looks pretty sweet!5
-
Today I learned how to make McDonald's coffee...
I just had to add 3 "pumps" of chocolate syrup. And the material cost was probably $0.50 ...5 -
Material UI is a incredibly opinionated over bloated piece of crap. I spent 1 hour configuring the material ui data grid just to get multiline text in a cell working.6

How do you lower the level of stress, without rubber duckies, stess balls and other material stuff?)8

The fuck is this shit?
The upper link is the actual link to the exherbo-project, a new source-based linux-distro.
The lower link forwards to a broken site, largely copying text from the original, while adding certain paragraphs about easy encryption and data-wiping to hide incriminating material.
Did someone from Gentoo went mad, because someone's developing an actual alternative to their shitty distro and package manager or what is happening here?5 -
Web developers, please recommend a tech stack. I have work experience in Laravel, Angular and Node Express. Personal small experience only for Vue and React.
Frontend: Angular, React or Vue?
Backend: Node Adonis JS or PHP Laravel?
CSS framework: Angular Material(angular), Material-UI, Tailwind CSS or Bootstrap?
This is for a personal project API based. What frontend backend tech stack are you using right now? Thanks!23 -
Today I spent hours trying to figure out how the hell to add a Material-UI tooltip onto the ClearIndicator for a react-select multi-select component to warn the user that it would clear _all_ of their selections. Followed the examples in the react-select docs on how to make use of replaceable components, but all of their examples used a different library for the tooltip component, and there was no way I was going to bring in _another_ library that was going to add even more dependencies to the application.
In the end, my problem was that all of the examples were with components that could carry a ref and the component _I_ was targeting was a <path> element, which apparently can’t.
Solution? Add a div between the tooltip and the component I was replacing.
*facepalm* -
So apparantly VSCode is the new shit in the automation industry. B&R just presented their fork of it and Siemens showed off Simatic AX. One thing you really need to see is, that Siemens apparantly uses the VSCode Pets plugin in their marketing material.7

30 years ago several people said they saw UFOs, poor videos of black dots in the sky appeared all the time. Today, 3B people with great cameras in their pockets but still no new material. 🤷♂️5

LinuxAcademy - is it worth the expense? Does anyone have a resource suggestion that costs less or free or has better material?2

I work on a small team, and we recently got an artist on it.
The artist has lights on, but nobody is home syndrome and it is driving me nuts.
This guy took 10 iterations on a model where the main request was to fucking change the fucking UV mapping. Here is how that went in a nutshell:
1. Hey, the model is ok, the guy needs a cape with some bones in it. The cape needs to share the material, here is the material, cape already on it. We also need like 8 animations.
1a. No cape visible, animations half done, and done shitty.
2. Correct the animations and all the above points asap. Ok?
2a. Few more animations 1 half corrected wrong, wonky exports. Has cape
3. Again, same.
3a. I got the wrong corrections, cape doesn,t move. Uv wrong and seperate material. Aaaarrrggg
It litterally took 7 more of those loops and now we have it going in 1 material and 5 wonky but workable animations. And the next character half of the same shit happens all over again. Fuck me, fuck him. Fuck this, i hate artists. I made a fucking list what is so hard?!2 -
working on a big app, developing front and backend while being focussed on design.
when you have more than 20 different layouts and you're forced to use license free stuff, life's getting harder every day.
why is material design so nice ;(2 -
Finally figured out why my team’s lab project was taking so long to compile. Named imports of material-ui icons. Lesson learned!2

I'm looking for collaborators for a site I'm making in laravel for my dad's apple/produce orchard business. I've pretty much have finished front end design but could use help in the back end development. I can't really pay anyone right now because I'm broke but it's more resume material and you would be helping a brother out so anyone interested let me know:)18

Before I could complete my material design v1 app, the new material spec was released with half the tool available to comply with the spec.3

Sometimes the days are so bad that I almost feel like giving up on this, fuck you npm, fuck you angular material constantly changing shit all the time and fuck you fellow dev who keeps fucking around with global CSS stylings

Did anyone of you check the new Facebook Raymond shit?
Nightmare material.

How much mind raped are you if you're asked to develop an iOS app completely with material design even after you inform that it's against iOS guidelines?5
-
So I was studying the Material Design skeleton component
https://material-ui.com/components/...
you know, like when YouTube shows grey boxes while the content is loading to let the reader know that there will be something there at some point.
But I keep waiting for it to load! My brain just assumes that the content is not ready yet so I wait but I'm the one who put it there in the first place! I'm supposed to be the one manipulating the user with intuitive UI, not the UI manipulating me!2 -
WHY FOR FUCKINGS SAKE DO I HAVE TO ACCEPT YOU SENDING ME BULLSHIT MARKETING MATERIAL WHEN I JUST WANT TO DOWNLOAD THAT SHIT EBOOK????
I see what you did here ngnix...5 -

I really like the Material Design guidelines that Google has released with Android 5.0, and maybe, @dfox, you could make the status bar match a darker tint of the app's color, as this color is also used on the recents menu and on my keyboard, and it really (IMO) makes an app stand out.
Thanks!9 -
So turns out android Q got the first Dev preview... Come on Google, you can turn material design 2.0 around and make it look and feel good, I believe in you!!!!
(Material design 2 is what I imagine Fisher price creating) -
Why is it considered bad material design to use lateral motion transitions between views?

I really hate terrible lecturers. A lecturer that cannot hold a class does not make a good lecture, even if the material is boring. Often I find myself drifting off into my thoughts and potential ideas.
Sigh.
Do you guys have similar issues or had when you were a student?4 -
Is there a way to make the ( + ) Floating Action Button disappear down and reappear up on scroll event, like it does on all the Google apps with Material Design?2

Google Inbox is starting to be more and more laggy, unresponsive and slow. And they just don't care. Sometimes I'm like clicking fucking 10 times on a thread until it opens.
Also going back to Gmail is not an option as the current version also looks like a Frankenstein's monster with a mix of different designs from material design and something else.1 -
Hi!
I need help from my fellow designers here.
I have an app called look up on the playstore. And right now it has a ugly icon designed by yours truly. As I am not a designer. Can anyone help me create a material icon for the app?

Theses operating systems are real! I once installed "Nyarch Linux" on on old laptop. Comes with some great pre-installed software. Such as, Catgirl Downloader, and Material UwU.😅There has got to be more joke-operating systems out there.5

Set up a chron job to backup my movies server.
copying 100-200 GB from a slow HDD to a slower HDD on a CPU that isn't exactly NASA material if you catch my drift.
I expected it to take a while but holy fuck, 45 minutes.
At least the archive finished at just 80GB.9 -
Being instructed to use Tailwind in the project sounds like a dream.
Too bad we are already using reactstrap, Ant Design, and Material-UI...
Buzzwords will be buzzwords.3 -
How do you guys handle the design part of your app/website if you are not very good at design? Do you use Material ui or bootstrap or do you ask someone else make the design for you?8

I just discovered the /usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/latex folder... My god there is so much material in there, gotta love the dedication these people put into their docs

Free python courses/study material? (online)
Thinking of learning python bcuz of how popular it is. Any websites/apps for beginners (that also extends to advanced without IAP or other form of payments)?

Hey guys (and girls (and people who dont identify as either of them)),
As some people here might know I am currently in the planning phase of an open source alternative for Thingiverse. After gathering information on multiple platforms Ive heard people really wanting it to be decentralized (a bit like Mastodon).
I really like that idea and thus want to implement it, does any of you have experience or knowledge of decentralized systems programming? I have trouble getting information on how this works. If someone is willing to help me explain a few things like "How does one instance retrieve data from other instances? How does it know a new instance is running somewhere?"
So if anyone knows a great source for information or can and wants to help me via a chat session please respond below6 -
I cannot learn material ui and reactive ui in a day. It is insane.
Material ui zero to hero tutorial feels like a firehose to the face.

Hello, World! (Couldn't help myself)
What are some of y'all's favorite books? I am finishing Ready Player One right now, and I am looking for some new reading material. Suggestions?11 -
Hey everyone, just wondering how to learn about Grammar.
No I don't mean English grammar.
In particular, I'm looking at PlyPlus grammar. Any thoughts for learning material? -
Should I force myself to complete any kind of book/training/education to full?
I realized, I like to learn "new" things but I realized I do not complete material to 100% after I feel like I got to gist of it.
I started Bash Scripting book by Richard Blue but stopped at 20%, started 20 hour matlab training(free), stopped at 40% as well. Now I set my eyes on GoLang but I am sure I will not complete the material also.
Naval Ravikant says he is skipping most of the books and OK with having general idea of the books. But at some point, I feel like I should complete the chosen material, what do I know?5 -
Between me and my next cool job was a stupid quiz that I didn't think will contain "text book" material that I haven't cared about since I finished school, I understand that they need to filter applicants but seriously!
Anyway I guess it is time to read about all those interview and quiz questions as it cannot be deciding my future!2 -
You can talk for a lifetime of improvement, but what can you do when your boss sits near you and dictates his changes to the app you're working on?
Don't forget, this changes are on the opposite place of good common sense, interface guidelines (iOS and material) and TASTE. -
Started to value digital properties over material ones.
Examples:
- Own code / Git-Repos
- Own software / apps
- Crisp images
- Open source software
- Private keys equal to real ones 😉 -
Trying to figure out Material Custom Themes. Goddamn who ever came up with this was either a genius or a donkey. I cannot get a grasp of it. I need a custom palette import this in a custom theme and then make sure this theme is included in my Angular installation.
Why god why?2 -
At college, second year, basic CS for that school. The teacher calls me to her office, and asked me if I had any backup of my work, because the school computer I used, had crashed and the school didn't have backup of it.
2 years of school material, lost. So the teacher and school director had to vouch for me. Still got best grade in glass. -
have some ideas but only ones that i consider startup material are not software but hardware based!1

IDE: JetBrains IDEs with Material theme (Dracula)

I seriously hate the spacing scheme of material design. So much of precious screen space wasted. I like the Macs way but their menus and other things are too squeezed. I wish there was a middle ground with normal spacing.
-
i hate it when comedians smile too much.
it's like they are trying to pander or something. Or compensate the lack of material or humor
God it's so awkward because they smile as if implying that they are funny.
It feels like they are trying to hypnotize the audience into thinking they are funny.
Or as if they were your friends, I don't know what it is, but it's fucking awful.
Isn't smiling back is an evolutionary trait? Marketing folks like to brainwash people with their smiles so there has to be some truth to it.
But the last damn thing I want marketing to corrupt is stand up humor.
Just count how many times jerrod carmichael smiles. Or kate mckinnon.
God fucking dammit, let me decide if you are funny.
You can have good material with meh delivery, but not the other way around, I'm not a fucking baby laughing as a reflex, I can understand sentences.12 -
Yaaay no internet, at least I have a large drive of material to use offline. It's ebooks and M4As only for me I suppose.8

If ever a jinn grants me a wish I would ask him to build me a webpage. If he does I'll report back to you guys wether he went for material design or not, the JavaScript framework, the backend language, client or server side rendering etc.

Why the fuck hasn't Google come out with an updated design guideline for TABLETS?! All this beautiful material design but it looks like shit on a tablet!!2

IMHO, the material design floating button (just like the one used here) is horrible. Why would a control ever hide the content behind it such that the user must move the content. I dislike it intensely and think it is just really bad ux.2

Jason Bourne logic: type "run predictive algorithm" without any parameters into a terminal and it returns the locations of whatever you want. Either that function is the _best_ at predicting user input, or its variables are so hardcoded that we've just discovered the hardest material on earth2

1) Browse high level documentation on the matter.
2) Find a semi-guided source of in-depth material (usually a book).
3) Start working with the technology.
4) Supplement with YouTube tutorials if necessary.
5) Fail initially.
6) Eventually succeed after much persistence.3 -
That moment when you want some reading material on a subject and the books are 35 bucks. Any got tips for good reading material for a broke student?8

I started using angular about one month ago, I did a long course and now I'm trying to do my first commercial app.
I have to say I really really hate the template engine of angular, I've been web developing for about 5 years, I've used bootsrap, materialize and foundation.
It rally sucks how it's all different in angular, their fucking gryd system didn't even use classes, use weird html tags, and the angular material has very very poor examples and documentation.
Another shitty thing is the Google search, when I search any shit about angular or angular material I have to watch careful if it is angularjs or only angular because most folks switch the names without any criteria.
Why the hell Google has to make a framework so incompatible with standard shit? Why it has to be a pain to use a fucking framework after 5 years of experience?
If someone can give me an advice I will be grateful1 -
Holy shit trying to learn flex-box and only when I turn on reverse-row does everything fall out of its containing boxes. Then I find out that because I'm not hardcore enough to roll my own CSS scaffolding and therefore using material design lite that it is also trying to use flex box plus a few floats here and there......
... First real need to rant, glad I had this outlet3 -
I don't know why but I think that I'm the only one that doesn't like material design. I get the concept and can see why Google came up with the whole material design thing, but it doesn't move me, no matter how clever it is.
Am I right? Do you hate material design too? Although hate is a strong word, so should I ask are you ambivalent to it too?3 -
Do you ever think about the fact that computer science is based on binary operations not because it is.easier or because we are "so smart" but because our still primitive knowledge of physics did not allow us to find a material and build reliable gates with multiple states and so we are.stuck with the "open-close" thingy?
Is it me or does it look like we are not that smart?6 -
Chrome Canary isn't available for Linux. I was excited about trying out the new material design 2, but apparently I'll have to wait 😐
Why you do dis, Gogol?2 -
Fuck you android and fuck you material design components. How pale is their elevation shadow? Shadow is so fucking pale that I cannot notice if I don't look very very carefully.
How terribly they designed their app bar component? It is designed so fucking annoyingly that setting app:Elevation doesn't do anything even I have implemented every every solution.
Fuck you material design components that doesn't support material design even you are official library.6 -
I've been hearing about material design, and wanted to check up on it. Does it specify some good UI guidelines, or is it more JavaScript framework hipe?
Their website didn't load on my browser. I guess I know what it is now2 -
In college.
Created event registration site with jQuery and Material design.
I had no web dev knowledge -
"Come on, people! Engage with my post!"
It does not works like that, obviously.
And yet every single fucker who comes to give some mandatory training says something like this.
Bitch, if no one engages with your "chair safety PowerPoint", it is because it sucks. Not necessarily due to your delivery, the material itself sucks.
So stop asking for engagement and just give us the quizz and we can all get back to work already!1 -
copied google's material design lite javascript code and the snackbar code from the official website but it doesnt work in localhost6

I can't delete stuff!
I am currently sorting through my harddrive(s) and realized I have over 800 gigabytes of raw audio and video from four of our theatre productions lying around. The films have long been edited and there is no use for the source material anymore.
But just in case, I'm keeping it. You never know... -

Started writing a book. A book of humor based on my observations of people, society, and technology. And I observe a lot, so there's no shortage of material.3 -
Material-ui looks and complete and so but their documentation is a nightmare .
They seperated component example and the code of those example. You gotta go to one page to see a silder example and test it and then you have to click on a link at the bottom of the page to go to the code where they mixed multiple variation of this compoment into the same spaghetti code.11 -
Is the semiconductor shortage caused by shortage of raw material or not enough production capacity?7

Anyone not a fan of Material Design especially the ripple effect? If not a fan, please tell me why. If yes, please tell me why, too.
For me, I feel like there's too much animation going on and I agree to someone that said it's cognitively distracting and it kinda breaks my train of thought. Any thoughts you can share?13 -

Looking for some advice from anyone who has used and transitioned away from Material-ui (React).
https://material-ui.com/
Tasked with removing the Material-ui used in our react project. Old team took shortcuts like using these types of frameworks at every step and the software is brittle.
Any advice from anyone who has ripped Material-ui out of a project.
We are doing this to move away from CSS-in-JS and this is conflicting with every fucking element in the fucking project.
<TextField> with it's special internal props
<Buttons> with its fucking "classes" prop that one take fucking CSS-in-JS
Any advice or just say some random shit or post a GIF for the lulz.
Peace.2 -
Any recomendations of CSS framework? I'm currently looking at Bulma (for some reason Vue tutorials are using it a lot), but lacks a little bit in documentation.
What I'm looking:

- Responsive
- Flexbox based
- Not material (please)
- Without annoying dependencies (OPTIONAL)
- Good or some documentation7 -

So the question is:
is there any better alternative to material ui?
mui is powerful, but I see no good in it in the field of customization.
You can't do shit without searching smth like: "how to remove the ::before in that mui component"
and getting some answer like:
"oh you can't do that with css! you should use that prop and shit or you should config your library in a way which you can remove ::before"

I have kind of been put in charge of software development in one department of the company I work at. Only myself and a developer in the IT department have ever done programming as our main jobs and follow formal processes. The issue I am having is I don't know how to approach some co-workers assisting me part time with programming to tell them the code they wrote needs major refactoring. Just after a short review there are hundreds of lines of duplicated code and code that is duplicating features built into the framework etc. I just hate conflict and don't know how to tell them we have a lot of work to do. Any advice?2

god damn, it seems so fucking stupid. i don’t want a color scheme on every single app i have. i like, from an app developer and app user’s standpoint, that i can recognize an app by its colors. colors are part of an app’s identity. why not just give users raw access to the apis that apps use. i mean, every messaging app is going to look the same now, every browser and every app that has a similar ui to another.5 -
Im trying to modify responsive css table so it would include block elements in it and render properly.
In angular-material.... in custom directives.....
I made css hell for myself... Fml -

I like iOS human interface design much more than the Android's material design, though I am an Android user. It has some unimportant design components IMO. I feel that the default action bar title is too big. Also that floating action button is weird sometimes. It hides some important portion of the contents in poorly designed apps.

So, need to secure some requests.
I decided on going passwordless on the website but I want to have an API too.
I am reviewing auth0.
I am also not sure if I can secure the same endpoints as private and public differently, so the private is used by the backend with no auth and the public with auth.
Wold you guys help me with some reading material?2 -
Can anyone recommend resources on learning/revising big O and big Theta notation?
It’s the one thing that never seems to stick in my head, and the course material provided by university isn’t particularly useful.7 -
Recently faced a situation in project development. I am working with a mat- datepicker component and I have to read the time for each time date selection . In my case a particular date selection . For eg: a user wants to save a text at a particular date say 2nd June. Again he/she goes and save another item in the same date. Now the user wants to see the latest selected item at the top. Can we handle something like this in angular ?

We're setting up a baseline for our new interns, in case they don't know the basics, we'd like some good material.4 -
Looking for a suggestion for a Visual Studio material theme, or any other good dark themes, because my eyes can no longer stand the default dark theme.

I would like to pick up some Test Driven Development practices. So that the most people benefit: "What book/material would you suggest for each language?"
So that I also benefit: I was hoping to find some books on C#, but some of the reviews gave me doubts.
