Internship number two.
*walks downstairs to get a coffee*
*CTO (my guider) walks in*
CTO: (dead serious face) "linuxxx (not using my first name :P), come with me please"
*walks along to his office, starting to get reallly fucking nervous*
*CTO and me walk into his office, he sits down and looks at me very serious*
*I'm slightly shaking, nervous, sweating*
CTO: "So."
*oh yes here it is its gonna come I did something wrong fuck fml 😫😥😨😩*
CTO: "So you know quite some stiff around security/privacy. Could you tell me some stuff about why I'd want to use VPN and recommend me some good providers? 😀"
😅
*nearly falls onto the ground from relief*
I explained him some stuff and sent him a list of good providers 😀30 -
If you had
one language
One framework
To code everything you want
Would you learn it or let it pass
His code is heavy,
arms are weak,
mind is bending.
It's all spaghetti.
He is nervous but looks calm and ready
to go now
but he keeps on forgetting
what he wrote down.
The manager is getting loud
He moves his mouse but the bugs won't got out
They are features now
Time to ship
Over blaow!18 -
GUYS!!! SHE SAID "YES" !!!!
I'M SOOOO HAPPYYYYY!!!
All my dreams are becoming real! I was so nervous to ask, but it was worth it! I waited for the right moment, looked her in her eyes, she looked at mine.. And there I asked it: "are you willing to give it a try and install libreoffice instead of ms office?"
AND SHE SAID: "yes"!!!
Do I have the best wife or what!21 -
She: Do dates make you nervous?
He: Oh yes, especially when the client and server are in different timezones and I need to calculate the difference and they are in different formats and I mean why can’t everyone just use ISO8601, right?
She: Okay never mind bye..........8 -
I was activating virtualenv in powershell when my younger brother came in.
Me: *all nervous* please don't think I'm hacking or trying to set off a bomb. (He always thinks I'm hacking and tells on me.)
Brother: *silent*
Me: *even more nervous* I don't want my laptop to get taken away. Don't tell on me and say I'm hacking, because I'm not.
Brother: Oh, I know you're not hacking this time.
Me: You do? *relieved.*
Brother: Yeah, because this time it's a blue background, not a black one.
Me: Oh, haha. So you're only scared of things such as these? *opens CMD and Git Bash* you know, just because it's dark themed, doesn't mean it's malicious. Besides it—
Brother: oooOooOh! You're hacking again! I'm telling on you!
*Note to self: Never use dark theme in front of the ignorant again.)43 -
Does anyone else have this?
When you flash something onto your android phones and the boot process afterwards takes very long and you start to get veeeeeery nervous 😅28 -
During my interview, I poured some water into a cup and it overflowed a little bit.
Interviewer: Nervous?
Me : No, I just always give my 110%9 -
The interview was for an internship, I was so nervous about it and thats how I fu*ked it.
Q: So you have studied OOP?
A: Yes Sir, I have studied OOP in C language.
And the rest is history. 😃😃10 -
So many people are applying for computer science majors that it's making me nervous.
My classmates don't know shit about tech yet almost all of them are applying for CS. It's even the most popular ranked major in the US.
I don't think I stand a chance against them. They all have higher GPAs than me, and they participate in clubs and sports.
If those cave people get accepted I'm not going to be too happy about it.61 -
Recruiter emailed me later this day. (had my first job interview today for a Linux Support Engineer position).
He said he thinks he might have some good news. I am nervous. Fingers crossed 😰19 -
I get nervous every time I go on highway 401 and 404 in Toronto area. Cuz I feel like I'm either on the wrong highway or the highway doesn't exist. If y'all know what I mean, feel how I feel😜4

AHHHHHHHH I MADE AN OFFER ON A HOUSE
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THEY ACCEPTED
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH INSPECTION DIDN’T TURN UP ANYTHING HORRIBLE
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH32 -
Hopefully the last part of my job hunting for now! Had a good call with the boss and heard from the recruiter that I'm the preferred candidate because we had (the boss and I) a real 'click'.
It's now between me and one other person.
Man I am nervous! Will hear it today or tomorrow!8 -
Last half hour of last Friday my Cinnamon desktop started fucking up every time I booted after like 20 seconds of uptime.
Logs said something about xorg errors but after like 15 reboots I said fuck it.
Was quite nervous this morning because of that issue and possibly not being able to open a terminal for installing a different DE before everything started to get screwed again.
Booted up. No freezes. No errors. It just works.
I guess my computer needed weekend too 😋13 -
I'll hopefully be releasing the security/privacy blog (going to bundle both into one blog) tonight.
I'm actually nervous about this 😅
(first post will solely be an introduction/hello post)77 -
Got two interviews today. Wish me luck. I'm nervous, but I think the candidates are probably more nervous.8
-
I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown due to all the pressure at work, and my boss sat me down one day and said "Don't take it so personally, it's only work".
He explained that you simply cannot make all the people happy all the time, you can only do your best, and that is good enough.7 -

Girlfriend decided she wants to learn to code, and I am honestly both excited to teach her, but also nervous; Teaching something is a good way to find out just how much you don’t know.7 -
Yo.
His palms are sweaty
Knees weak arms are heavy
Bugs littering his code already
Cold spaghetti 🍝
He’s nervous but on the surface he looks calm and ready to git push
(Hit a blank with thinking of code-related lyrics, anyone got ideas?)16 -
Had an unannounced performance/progress review at work today.
I always get nervous when having those but I know my boss and lead support engineer by now so i got to relaxed mode quite fast.
Then i was getting very cold and started to shake (in combo with the slight nervousness).
That lead to extensive stuttering 😬
Apparently I put my chair right under a fucking ceiling fan thingy in my nervousness.
😅2 -
When I'm on call and its weekend, I'm often a little nervous the entire weekend and time seems to go slow.
Programming on the dns proxy/firewall now and time is suddenly going quite faster.
This is a damn relieve.6 -
So I got a call from a recruiter this morning, about a job for a C++ developer what experience developing for embedded systems.
He sent my resume off to the company and they actually want an in person interview the same day.
I'm going to this interview in 2 hours, I'm really nervous, I haven't had an interview in years...
Wish me luck!12 -
So making a website for my best friend who soon to be my girlfriend.. I sort of had this idea where I'm going to ask her out and the links are the letters that I wrote to her when we first met. Cheesy I know but give me your thoughts and opinion. #noobwork. About it. Or what should I add or take away.. kinda nervous.22

Going on a tiny trip outside the country!
I get nervous as hell around airport security 😓
I get nervous as hell before takeoff 😓
This is going to be great.20 -
Today I was asked to decide on a handheld or "madonna" microphone for a conference I have to speak at in 2 weeks. Its time to come clean, I never thought the day would actually come, i'm far too terrified to actually go through with it. I just wanna write code in my dark little corner and be left alone. I wonder can I get out of this or is it too late4

Got a new job as a Full Stack Engineer. Moving to a new city. Feeling extremely nervous and a bit scary (cause I don't speak the language). Sitting here browsing devRant to ease up and relax.9

have an interview in 20 mins, this is the last round.. new job has 80% salary hike compared to current .. wish me luck guys!!!13

Strating on a quite big project today because for one, it seems awesome to build it, two, i really need it and three: I don't think i have the skillset to pull this off so it's an awesome challenge/learning thing!
This will be the first time where I'll actually have to make a technical design first because otherwise it'll become a mess.
I'm both super excited and nervous 😁😅8 -
Trying to install Ubuntu onto my newly acquired Asus T100.
It's hardly compatible with Linux but after tweaking around I did get it to boot with Ubuntu 16.04.
I'm actually quite nervous 😅
But leaving windows on that poor thing would be a no-fucking-go so I hope this will save it.19 -
It's been a long ass time Devrant, but I got some great news...
I start my new job as a Junior Frontend Developer next week :)
I'm just so happy to finally become a "professional" developer, but I'm also pretty nervous to be honest. Either way, I'm glad for the opportunity and won't squander it. I've been working towards being able to seize a moment like this for two years now; I'm as ready as I'll ever be, and I want to encourage everybody still struggling to make that first step into the professional world to keep going at it--you'll make it5 -
When a mobile dev says he knows phones inside out:
"Most phones come with a built-in, disabled FM radio chip, if I needed you to build an app that enables the chip and uses it, how would you do that?"
Not relevant really, but it's always fun to stump people who act stuck-up and smart. I'd never ask this question to someone who was nervous and/or humble.10 -
Wish me luck, ranters. Tomorrow I start working in an IT company for the very first time. Hope I don't get fired very soon, freelancing is hard. And I still owe >1300€7
-
Dev from MIT argued about every. Single. Thing. I said. I'm not talking language or cultural or political barrier, I'm talking about just a naturally confrontational person. Maybe it was just his nerves (people do weird shit when they are nervous), but damn if i didnt want to throw him out after "agreeing to disagree" for the 4th time in 10 minutes.7
-
My 1 year old waddled her way to where I am sitting to my computer and gives me this. I start a new job this Monday and have been really nervous, I always get nervous when I start a new job. Guess who is going to be sitting with me at my office this monday? :)7

So I just told my manager that I want to resign my job.
I have decided to accept the offer from a German software company. First time working overseas, full of uncertainty.
I don't know I am excited or nervous now.13 -
i had a nightmare the other day that i was at work explaining to a friend that 1/3 is the same as 3/9 and i was shocked why they ddnt approve. then they pull out a calculator and i see that while the first fraction yields 0.33 the second yielded 0.057. so i felt so nervous and panicked then i woke up.4
-
If you've spent time learning how to code and you're daydreaming about having a dev job but don't have one because you're too nervous to apply, just do it. The worst thing that can happen is that you'll get the job (and be stuck ranting like us).4

!rant waiting for my first job interview as a developer at 35years old, so fucking nervous.😱😵 it's like going back to my childhood6

My wife and I just put an offer on a house, 7 try and this offer was accepted. We're trying to get our financial approval together, she's a nervous wreck and keeps asking me if that's any news because I'm dealing with the bank. So I set this up.
She called me after a couple hours to tell me the dog house had called to confirm my reservation.3 -

I’m sitting in the parking lot 1.5 hours early to start my new job today. I’ve been rather nervous about it since I accepted the job offer in early December. I’m going to be working with completely foreign tools and software stacks than what I’m used to. I never said I was pro or experienced at this tech stack, let them know during the interviews repeatedly that I’m just getting started with this kind of work and tech stack (devops role using jenkins and ansible mostly). And my experience and knowledge is limited to theoretical understanding of how these tools work together.
I’m excited to get to learn all kinds of new tech and push myself. But I’m also terribly nervous about how quickly I can pick this all up so I’m not a burden to the team.15 -
Two friends and I are about to publish a side project in two weeks (for an open Beta) it feels good but I am kind of nervous...
Today I found new bugs and I don't know yet if we have the time to fix them all...
Do you have any tips / experience you could share with me?13 -

It only takes a minute of your time, so please call EVERYDAY to save net netrality. Here is the link:

Also if you are like me and get nervous with phone calls, use this. You won't have to talk to anyone: https://resistbot.io/
We can also kill the piece of shit, Ajit Pai, that would be a much easier solution ;)3 -
Just signed the contract for renting my first ever place today, and tomorrow is my first day of work as a software developer at a large company... It's been a crazy weekend, and tomorrow is probably gonna be even crazier! Little bit nervous tho... We'll see how it goes4

We all work on the same room: Devs and testers.
In order to communicate with each other without taking off our earphones, we use the chat app.
Ok, sometimes the chat app has delay sending messages.
I really, really hate when one of the testers comes to my desk without telling me he's coming to my desk! >:v and this is the reason why I hate it so much: I'm concentrate in my code, listening to ASP or SPA and, suddenly, I feel a heavy presence behind my monitors. I look up and I see a very penetrating gaze from the corpulent tester looking at me (he's tall). Every time he does that I almost have a heart attack D:
"There's a bug I want you to check" he says.
And I check my chat app if there's a delayed message from him. Nothing, NOTHING >:v
Always, when I want to go to his desk, I send him a message
"Is it ok if I go to your desk?" and he says me "You don't have to ask for it, just come here" but the thing is that I do that because I expect him to do the same :/
Fortunately this doesn't happen every day, but it pisses me off, and I don't know how to tell him to stop doing that because I don't want to be like a... jerk? intolerant? I don't know15 -
First day of my new job tomorrow.. nervous as fuck, still looking forward to it:)
New year, new job, new home.. it’s gonna be good!
Just wanted to share this:)6 -
Tomorrow will be the first time I'll be interviewing candidates for hiring. Any advice?
P.S.: This will be first time an interviewer will be more nervous than the candidates. 🤔🤔15 -
I will be pitching my startup idea for the first time in my life to potential investors one on one after qualifying for a second round in a business competition.
I am nervous 😬, desperately need to get the fund, and haven't been a good presenter.
Background: the business is still on prototype stage.
I stutter by default if I am slightly nervous.
From feedback my prototype is great- but my pitching might not be too great.
Damn I just have less than 6 hours to pitch.
Fuck this nervous mess.
Dev wish me good luck😶13 -
I already told you that my boss is not a developer. So, when he tells me "that should be easy to code" I always get a little nervous.2

For the past two years I've always wanted to make Programming tutorial videos to help others learn to code while fueling my passion for coding, discovery, and teaching..... and after two years I've finally uploaded my first two videos to YouTube.
I want to cover fun and exciting topics such as how to make custom plugins, create your own linux web server, and more... but decided to do a web basics 101 as my "Hello World" videos to get better in making content and production.
The inspiration for my "Web 101" comes from have a lot of my senior year CS classmates who have never seen HTML/CSS code before and wanting to provide them a source to get the basics all in one place.
I have a lofty goal of getting 10 subscribers by the end of the month. If you wouldn't mind giving me some pinpointers or comments I'd greatly appreciate it!
Also I did buy a new microphone so the sound quality between video one and two should be better!

About to do my first certification... Its an online test and I am nervous as fuck...
Wish me luck!!!12 -
I'm scared like a kid!
Next week , I'm getting my new medicine as a serum which is full of side effects : fever , headache , ...
And because bradicardia is one of them (several people died cause of this !) , I must be in the hospital under observation for 24h (actually 24h coding ) .
Hey i know it's stupid !
I know even if my heart stops beating i won't die in hospital (i hope so)
And i'm not a nervous guy!
I'm getting back to my code maybe that helps 😸4 -
I just got offered my first position for a Junior developer gig. they are offering me more money than I expected and otherwise I'm super amped to take it.
what makes me nervous is its my first programming position. I have an IT/Programming bachelor's but not a pure Computer Science degree.
I was asked no technical questions and I don't know if it was clear that I'm very much looking for entry-level work. I guess the fear of failure is creeping up on me.9 -
coding for your company and you know something doesn't work right.... sweet I'm done. I'll just fix that tomorrow.
coding for yourself and it works right but you still feel nervous about your users using it so it takes you an hour to build up the courage to push the changes live lol -
I just had my first job interview. It did last for about 45 minutes.
God do I feel fucking awful.
I was very nervous fml.4 -
So for the past 10 work days I've had my exams (study is software development). I already know that i passed 3 out of 4 stages but I'll get the results of my 4th (aka if i passed the exams) tomorrow. I'm so fucking nervous.2

I swear preparing an app update that's going to be deployed to 500+ people stresses me tf out.

Wombat is days away before launching his side project. It is a platform to sell website components for devs and designers.
I am very nervous about it. 😬😬😬10 -
One of the companies that rejected me sent me feedback which I took gracefully coz u sexy cunts told me it wasn't the end of the world when I ranted about it here. Well now they are offering me another interview and I am hella nervous coz I don't want to fuck it. Good thing is the feedback they gave me were actually all shit I know and use daily in my work, I am just bad at explaining plsu was nervous at the last interview. Now I am worried coz it's on monday and I have not had time to practice explaining the lang well coz work has been crazy (literally on a 10 min break now since 9am..almost 10hrs working) which is weird right coz last year I actually used to teach.9

My paid training to become a dev starts today. Or rather in half an hour. God damn it I'm nervous. Even though I'm already kinda experienced. I'll be that company's first trainee.
It will be mostly C#.
I enjoyed my 2 month long holidays that lasted until now, though.3 -
I had a standing ovation at my first talk at a conference. I was so nervous at first and then it was easy afterwards. I wonder if I should do more talks. Anyone have any experience doing this that can give some advice?9

Had a job interview yesterday and I was so nervous, couldn’t think straight at all so I figured there’s no chance of me getting the job.
And just now i got an email saying they want another interview..... what? how? huh..?4 -
Am I the only one who gets extremely nervous the night before an interview as that technical test can encompass the entire academic field of CS. I'm just worried I'll forget the difference between a clustered and non-clustered index or fail to convey the difference between TDD and BDD.
I'm ten years in to my career now, so I 'should' know my stuff. I've produced the tests my self, hired other devs, but I still feel the nerves.8 -
Unrelated to programming but anyways: It’s great how you can go on a date with someone, message them a bit after that you enjoyed it, have them respond they enjoyed it to and then when you ask if they would like to do something again at some stage they read and don’t reply 🙃 Even a firm no would have been nice9

Today i had my first video conference in English, and i was very nervous and excited at the same time.
I think i were able to communicate my ideas really well, because the other person just asked me 2 times to repeat what i said.
I'm proud of myself (and all the video games, series and tutorials that helped me reach this level of understanding english)1 -

My most intense day was in the company at the day we had to publish a website containing lots of jQuery & CSS animated stuff.
We planned to go live at 3pm but due to the fact that before lunch time there began to appear more and more styling and animation problems, we went live at around 9pm. I was sweating and nervous as hell the whole time.
At least my boss and I went to drink a few beers right after that. ;) -
was asked if i want stock options during an interview so i said i just care about my salary
fuck my nervous-mode self2 -
My first (student/part time) developer interview tomorrow! I'm not 100% sure what to expect since this is my first interview of this type. Nervous and excited though!3

AND
I'm about to send out my first ethical hack report to a company! I'm nervous because I don't know how they'll respond. It's an xss vulnerability, and I really hope they'll fix it.5 -

I want to say I would not have been the programmer I am now, if it hadn't been for all of my mentors in my past and current job who took a chance on me.
I am socially awkward, am nervous and stutter around new people, cannot sustain conversation, and as a consequence come out rather poorly in most kinds of interviews.
But there has been 3 mentors/leads in my life so far who saw through the nervous wreck I was in the few hours of the interview and took, what felt like to me, a gamble by hiring me. My current mentor even taught me everything I know on my job and has vastly shaped the programmer I am.
A humble thank you to all the amazing mentors out there, who inspire and enable the now green engineers, who will later be the mentors of the future generation!1 -
Yesterday was release day for a project, never been too nervous like I am now, why? Because of the amount of chaos in this project, I cannot predict the behavior of the system, anything might just break T_T5

I start shaking and getting nervous when there is something I really, really want to say.
Today in school we started talking about Amazon Alexa and privacy.
This topic concerns me a lot and I started talking in front of the whole class about Google and things they do to spy on you. After about 30 seconds of me talking I started shaking because there was so much I wanted to say and with so much enthusiasm and also a bit of anger.13 -
On monday I had to present my 3D graphics assignment to a teacher at uni. I was very nervous at the beginning, but the presentation turned out very well. They liked my project so much that they told me that I could help with one of their research projects, and they even offered me a teacher/demonstrator position. Is this reality or am I dreaming?4

Last night before the final dismissal of my current job.

How many devs here got hired through Google's Foo Bar challenge or got the invitation?
I got the invite and have sent my assignments for review. Anyone know what happens next.20 -
Why am I annoying to everyone?
As a side thing, why does this guy, who I'm only barely friend day with, keep following me everywhere in school, including sitting next to me with the person I have a crush on, fucking killing the entire hour?
On top of that, I'm trying to stay away from relationships and shit, but this girl is amazing and I get nervous around her as it is. I hate this.4 -
I remember the first time I downloaded smth from the internet and was extremely nervous not to fuck anything up. I was young and had just started using a computer. It was a desktop computer with windows xp in our basement, inside kind of its own wardrobe, standalone.
I remember my dad (not very tech-savvy) who told me not to download anything from the internet, as it would surely be a virus, but I was bored of the built-in programs and wanted to try it out. I downloaded a program and was extremely nervous and hoped for no virus. I don't remember what I installed back then (no virus/trojan/etc.😅) but it was this moment I realised I could download anything and wasn't tied to what the OS provided, which led me to be interested in computers in general.
I believe that if I hadn't attempted that download, I wouldn't have become the tech-savvy person that I am today, studying CS... -
I got a call from a recruiter yesterday. The employer wants to get me in for an interview. It's for a fairly big company and I'm beginning to feel really nervous. I hate the place I'm at and I need this job. Not just for money but also to retain my sanity.
The interview is with a development manager, I wonder what kind of questions he/she will ask. Ahhhh how do I prepare for the unknown? 😱10 -
I'm going to have my first job interview on tuesday.
Do you have any tips for me?
It's for a cooperative study program.23 -
I don't usually get nervous about anything, but the interview I have today is for the job I really want. Hope I get it.3
-
My hands started shaking today when I was about to resize a partition on a live, production hypervisor.
Who came up with the idea that the only way to *inflate* a partition was to fricking delete it and recreate it again?!
I know that as long as I keep its start at the same disk sector and only increase the partition size, not decrease it, its gonna be fine. Still. Deleting stuff on a live system makes me nervous.5 -
My professor asked me today why I wanted to build my project using OOP.
This is a 480 level course and I have 2 1/2 years experience building well over 30 projects with OOP. And yes, we have students here who are nervous about the idea of using OOP. Nevermind that I and others took two classes on the topic.
I have hit my dispair event horizon. It has to get better from here. 🤯😬🤬🤬🤮☠️4 -
After hours of development, updated code on server, closed ide, out of habbit oppened browser, went to http://localhost/, just to check how api is responding... No response. Restarted server. No response. 30 minutes of random tests/checks, no result at all. 30 nervous minutes later, realized that server was working fine... it's just me who freaking tried to access it via localhost. ffs 0_0

I conducted my first "technical" interview today. Let's just say the chap needs to brush up on his terminology...
Q: What's a class and an object? And what's the difference between each?
A: Ummm... Errr... The one holds static information and the other can change its values.
OK, in his defence, he was nervous and English isn't his first language either, but then brush up on your terminology at the very least so that you can speak the lingo when asked questions about programming.1 -
Got my first job, 3rd year student from my country took me in to help making an app for a company in Texas... All the other guys are from 4th year or graduate school. Feeling nervous, let's hope I don't fuck up.2
-
The worst rejection was one after a first interview and a subsequent 3 hour code challenge. I was super nervous as it was my first code challenge in an interview that was one of my first. I wasn't confident when I submitted my work, but the time was up and so there wasn't much to be done.
The rejection was simple. Pure silence. No arguments, or feedback. Just didn't hear nothing back and that didn't help my fresh out of university self-confidence.1 -
First day of my first developer job is Monday. Oh shit. Nerves are starting to set in. What if I’m not good enough for the job? I mean I didn’t the coding assessment they wanted me to do. And passed. Which is why they gave me the job. But fuck man I’m nervous! I have never had a job like this before. And it’s remote after my first week. Oh shit.8
-
Guys, wish me luck for tomorrow, I'm so nervous.
But thanks to everybody who gives me good advices and tips10 -
Hi devRanters
I have been working on an android game in my free time as a hobby. It has been 2 years, so I have decided to finally put it up in play store (maybe as alpha or beta). If there is interest I might keep working on it. Any advice? It is the first time I make a game and I am completely green in regards to publishing it and things to take into account.
All advice is appreciated. I am a bit nervous as it has been my baby for 2 years...2 -
Got selected for an internship and I was really happy. But I am the only one selected and the company is a startup and i am responsible for the entire fullstack development of their site with no technical senior...... I am so nervous and scared to make a mistake...6
-
I walked into a company, sat down with the interviewer who was more nervous than I was. Interview lasted 10 minutes. I drove an hour for to and from trip, for a ten minute interview...10
-
Waiting for my interview at a big firm.
Nervous.
If I am accepted here, I will have to break a 1 year contract with my previous company. I just feel it is not the right thing to do but this is a very good oppurtunity for me.2 -
!rant I agreed to be interviewed for a podcast for a developer community I’m part of and it’s scheduled for tomorrow morning and I’m kind of freaking out.
Also, procrastinating writing a bio and submitting a photo. Still. I was asked to do the interview almost a month ago. 😅8 -
Today I flew from London to Glasgow and had to carry my laptop in my suitcase since I don't have a proper laptop bag. Was extremely nervous the whole time even though I cushioned it as much as possible. Then I get home and on CSS tricks I see this on the screen and freak out thinking my screen got messed up. Turns out it's my adblocker doing work :D6
-
Going for an interview where they told me i had to write an apppication to see the skill level. Okay, im good with that but on the way there now and the agen calls me to ask if im prepared for the test they going to give with their tech lead and 2 directors. F... Why am i so nervous, she did say "basic" test2
-
I just hate wordpress. Whenever I have to touch it, makes me nervous.
This time I just have to put some html/css. I was thinking it's piece of cake.
Couldn't be more wrong. This fucker is adding extra tags to my code fucking up what made...1 -
Finally going to start publicizing my first real open source project. Nervous and excited at the same time.6
-
Today was my first time being on the other side of the table during an interview! Still felt a bit nervous, to be honest lol. It was the second round, and I got to present our stack and talk about what we're working on etc. Long story short, the candidate left a great impression and received an offer. I hope it works out! 😊2
-
For the first time I have got an opportunity to have an internship at a local software development team and they are asking for program samples now... I am a little nervous because I have never shown my code to anyone who understands anything of coding and I have no idea how it would do in an interview...4
-
When the test you spent an hour writing passes on the first try… not sure if I should be happy or anxious.5
-
After growing problems at work with basically being nothing more than an office junior who gets used to manually input data, with the occasional bits of development.
I sent my CV to a company one of my friends works for applying for a role as a full stack graduate developer.
I have a telephone interview tomorrow, little bit nervous8 -
I got an interview for a software internship in SF! So happy right now! Extremely nervous about the interview, guess I have to study up on some algos :)2
-
!Long Rant!!
Got inspired by Ewin Tang's paper on figuring out a classical computer algorithm for recommendation systems inspired by quantum computers and started to write up an email to a professor in some Quantum research I'm interested in doing. As a high school student, it's VERY daunting to start. Been researching the prof and I'm super excited but it's nerve racking! Like what if she doesn't even open her research projects to high school students and I'm wasting my time? In case, I am planning on asking if there is anyone else I should contact. I'm focused on doing this research with McMaster since it's nearby but I'm really doubting myself. People my age who do this stuff are phenomenal and I feel like I wouldn't live up to that. You guys are probably a lot more experienced in this so if you've got any advice or tips, let me know.
>.<8 -
Reminiscing my first tech sticker, this one's from my first hack-a-thon. :') gonna go to the same one in 2 weeks, kinda nervous because I didn't really learn much compared to last year. (but I shamelessly collect the stickers)1
-
- You know, I have been showed proofs that there are half days where you almost pushed anything, if nothing, you haven't been productive these days
First off, bitch, I'd like to see you try to make something useful from Drupal.
Second, apologizes but you can't commit nervous breakdowns. Can't say I haven't try.1 -
Hey guys
I'm starting my first programming intern job in a week.
It's a big company and have many projects and they liked me because I knew some Java from college.
I obviously have no industry Java experience but am looking to review the book used in my class & the projects I did.
I'm still kinda nervous a little cuz I don't have any idea what it's going to be like.
What could be advised to do while waiting a week? Any good Java brush up idea
Thanks3 -
Just put my first 'big' personal project on GitHub to get advice, feedback, and opinions.
I don't know why I'm feeling so nervous about the project being seen and judged by anyone on github6 -
Just downloading the CM Source code right now. I'm really excited and nervous because I never tackled such a big project on my own.
Wish me Luck guys! :)1 -
1. Do you commute using public transport?
2. How long is one of your ways?
3. Do you use hearing protection during your commute?
4. Are you also extremely nervous if your public transport is just a nanosecond too late?9 -
Wanna grow in to more of a devops role, currently learning aws.. I'm excited, but also a bit nervous :)6

Not really terrible start. I was just nervous and overdressed (wore a suit when everyone else was informal)1
-
I'm interviewing for a full stack developer position next week. Although I've over 10 years of experience and working as one right now (although in a shitty company), I'm fucking nervous!6
-
After 2 interviews and a complex case study made to apply for Javascript Architect I was asked to travel from Brazil to Germany for final interview. First question:
Interviewer: what are things that you want to learn next.
Me (dumb): Maybe some functional language like Erlang
Interviewer: why not Javascript?
Me (dumber): Javascript is not that good for functional
Man, I WAS nervous that day 😭3 -
What makes you nervous no matter how many times you do it?
- Job Interviews and 'git push' at times5 -
Doing a talk on 'Security in PHP' and live demo on web attacks and safeguard tips this Saturday. Any tips fellow Ranters...?13
-
So after dealing with hell lot of anxieties, I tried meditating. I did it for 2 weeks for now and can see difference. I have started avoiding the unhelpful thoughts. I am not fogging my mind each day with negative thoughts now.
Although I cannot say if I can still face the situations well when I'll get nervous but I know that I will try stopping my unhelpful thoughts.2 -
"sudo su" still makes me nervous, it's like a hack.
Why don't use "sudo -i" instead?
I know that option is newer, but why?8 -
How do you lower the level of stress, without rubber duckies, stess balls and other material stuff?)8
-
I have the first of 6 interviews next week with Google, after completing level 3 of the Foobar challenge...
I’m 100% self taught and this will be my first interview for anything development related. Needless to say I’m nervous as fuck and imposter syndrome is hitting hard.
Anyone have tips? Things you wish you knew before your first developer position interview? Or just resources? Trying to be as prepared as possible.5 -
Tfw you have to reverse engineer a $50000 machine with practically zero documentation and all vendor specific hardware and software!
Has anybody else been through this ? -
Once I had an interview where in the last part the cto of the bank asked me a question about the history of my country instead of a appropriate programming one. Of course I couldn't answer and got nervous but I still want to punch that motherfucker in the face.
-
I'm trying to get an internship.
My coding skills are great, but I get really nervous/scared when interviewed. Social skills are trash...8 -
Reading all these hacking stories has made me nervous that my server isn't protected enough.
I've disabled password login and setup SSH keys which as far as I know is a big step in the right direction.
Is it enough? What more should I do?
In case you can't tell, I'm no expert in server adminy stuff 😛9 -
Wish me luck, I'm returning back to Uni after a months long hiatus. Algorithms, Node and rest API awaits me 😓2
-
Interview today for potentially the most significant position of my junior career. Nervous as hell is an understatement. Been studying for days.2
-
Sometimes I like to see how the other side live and just watch people in a computer store.
There are the nervous tip-toers who don't want to attract attention. The point and lookers, who read the sign and nod and show they understood.
There are the ones who just wander aimlessly trying to look like they know what they want.
Finally there are the 'expert helpers' who know enough 'techie' words to convince anyone around that they know what they're talking about.
It's like a people zoo.1 -
There is some kind of business big change in the company where I'm currently working.
I'm really happy with the current situation, in terms of salary, flexibility, teammates... all. I don't really want this to change.
In 15 min I have a metting with the bosses to talk about those changes. I feel pretty nervous about what they will say and what can I say to keep my interests.
Wish me luck.6 -
Hii guys! Im new to DevRant and am reaching out to QA specialists out there!
I got an interview for Junior QA specialist and i need some tips on to what to focus my time studying on. ANY TIPS WILL BE APPRECIATED.

-
I'm as nervous as a guy who just proposed.
I had been contributing to a vs code extension for more than 6 months now. And my contributions were good. Recently I put forth few plans for the development of the extension to the repo owner and he accepted it.
One of the ideas is to ask the owner of another similar repo to merge with us and help us make the best there is.
I had just sent a detailed mail to him and waiting for a reply. Hope he says yes 🙈 -
I'm taking a year out from my degree to do a software dev placement. I fought hard to get it and totally smashed the interview. But I'm still nervous as all hell and not sure I want it.
I think it stems from not actually feeling like I'm a real dev yet. I feel like I'm a big fish in a small pond at uni, which is why I took the job. That and the fact I never really made many friends there. Still can't shake the feeling that I'm just going to fail miserably...
I guess this is what they call "impostor syndrome".3 -
TFW you realize you only have 2 days left until your school-leaving exams.... I'm so fucking nervous right now... Aaand apparently our city has won a soccer match, I can pretty much hear everything that's happening at the stadium... there also seems to be some big rap concert somewhere in the city... I can't open the window otherwise I'll have to listen to all that noise.5
-
The computers and network seem to be CRAWLING today. Which is great, gives me plenty to time to imagine the many ways I could get myself fired for doing the deployments the way I am. 😅💀
-
So far I feel a lil in over my head. Decided to install archlabs. Not great with command line and I wanna get better so I figure this is as good a way to learn as any. Little nervous that windows is gone but oh well!1

Today I got an interview for a cool job: Comissioning engineer with focus on PLC-programming.
So nervous, but so happy at the same time.3 -
Client deletes erp record with a massive amount of aggregate objects. Calls and almost has a nervous breakdown.
Thank god for soft deletes, they make awesome invoices. -

For those who get nervous when it comes to the technical interview, you should check out https://interviewing.io it allows you to practice the tech interview anonymously with developers from some of the bigger companies.1 -
HALP!
So, I have a phone interview for a job that is basically the same job I have now, but they use c# instead of Java.
I'm only a year into my first programming job, and I'm not really sure what kind of questions they're going to be asking during this interview.
Anyone have any good examples?9 -
I have two job interviews tomorrow. One is a start up and the other is a large company. Not ideal to have two interviews on one day, since how will I explain to my boss that I will be out half the day for job interviews? But I have to, since I’m going to LA for thanksgiving on Saturday.
Does anyone have any tips? I’m very confident in my skills. But there is always some great advice!1 -
Hey everyone, I'm ecstatic and nervous! I got my first technical phone interview from a company I'd actually really want to work with for a full stack (mostly frontend) react node web app developer job. Any tips or stories of your first technical phone interview with a company you cared about?! I think it will really help me. Thanks! 😅4

A bit nervous of starting Computer Science Course at Uni. Anyone else starting on Monday? Any tips?8

Right now I'm standing in this Apple Reseller store waiting in the line and there's an old man who doesn't understand a fuck of his iPhone, and it turns out it's about setting up his fucksucking mail! I'm waiting for half an hour already, am so fucking done with this.
There's also this useless shit of an "Apple Expert" employee who doesn't do a thing. He constantly walks through the store very nervous and I'm getting fucking sick of this guy...2 -
Never have I ever been nervous about a meeting. Clients come to me all the time requesting a meeting. I've had positive reviews ever since I started.
However two days ago I received an email about an interview that takes place in the morning. And I decided to fuck up my fucking beard in tryig to groom it! FUCK!2 -
My first ever interview and the interviewer seemed more nervous than me. Didn't get the job.
I did have an interview a couple of hours later elsewhere with a much better firm and got the job :D -
After weeks of interviewing, I just got an incredible offer to be a Junior Full Stack Developer at an amazing company. Great benefits, awesome pay, but instead of being excited I'm nervous to the point of self doubt. Can I really do this? Am I good enough to be part of this team? Did I misrepresent myself at the interview? Shit... Fucking self doubt1
-
Working on production issue,
Kind of nervous checking logs and so on...
Ops manager and PO who were looking over my shoulder this whole time start shooting the breeze.
I know what they were trying to do. They are trying to create a relaxed environment.
But the issue is that the talk is very distracting. If you want to shoot the breeze please go somewhere else.
Anyway just did that, asked them to leave. They weren't happy about it. But I really needed the silence. -
hi guys, I applied for a job and I passed a coding test. Now they called me for interview tomorrow. It will be an 2 hour on-site assessment group assessment for them to see how I think and work. I am a fresh graduate. Any advice? Feeling bit nervous9
-
So, I have my first ever on site interview on Monday for a Mobile Software Developer position.
I’m super excited but also super nervous.
You guys have any tips for not Richard Hendrix-ing the on site interview? 😂4 -
I irritated a guy with great sense of humour, with my sense of humour.
Don't try hard, don't be yourself. Don't be nervous.12 -
Today my old professor wrote on my school's slack channel that someone was needing some js and css work on their web page. Even though i have a good grasp of programming (I've been studying for 7 years while working as McDonald's to pay), front end web work isn't my forte, but I might be able to do it.
On the one hand it would be nice to have something to show to potential employers, but I'm a bit too nervous and I'm not interested in doing front end for future employment. What was it like when you received your first client? Nervous? Confident? I want to hear everyone's early experiences. -
When you’re laughing/cringing at some of these rants and you hear that little voice in the back of your head say:
“I shouldn’t be laughing.. Screenshots of my code will probably be posted here when the next guy takes over my project..”
I’ve written fast and dirty code back in the days that still makes me nervous, but we don’t have the time and resources for a rewrite and besides.. My code works, so.. 🤷🏻♂️💅🏻 -
Got a job interview tomorrow I'm not that nervous but I'm not sure what my market value is even after 5 years of experience any suggestions?7

Endless loop from workstation to bathroom.
Enough coffee to make your central nervous system depends on it.2 -
Trying to start a dev meetup with a friend, super excited but also nervous! I'm just a junior dev, absolutely overwhelmed by every aspect of the pool of knowledge available to me but absolutely excited to embrace it! I'm just a lowly angular developer but my aspirations are great :) I hope to bring people of unconventional ideologies together to discuss concepts in ways thay are... Well, unconventional!
Here's to learning, and growing!1 -
Am I the only one who gets stupid nervous for interviews, I always get the hand shakes real bad about T-20 before the interview then they go away about T-5 before the interview. Doesn't matter what I am interviewing for, every time.6

So tomorrow I'm talking to the CEO of the company I applied a job for as the 4th step of the recruitemenr process. Kind of nervous about it because I don't know what to expect from this interview. Any advice?😬😬😬1

I’m finishing up a thing for someone. It’ll be in prod soon. I’m nervous. I keep picking at it but it’s “done.” It’s just a silly script. But I haven’t written anything in a long time that someone else is gonna actually use. I write things no one else uses to make my life easier.2

Learning Java after learning python for School and helping the new programmers who are in the class I finished last term. I see python code and get nervous because there’s no semicolons or curly brackets, but then again I’m like “Fuck I miss python!”
But I’m usually the go to guy when people need help because I make YouTube tutorials for my colleagues to help them understand what I’ve learned, and share flash cards on quizlet, and generally tell anyone if you need help I’ll help. -
I need to help out my manager to interview angular developer candidate which I don't have any experience on Angular development. I was darn nervous interviewing those people, relying on some reading on angular documentation, articles and tutorials but after few interviews. I manage to get into the momentum to conduct interview smoothly.
After two weeks of doing it, now I'm kinda understand Angular thanks to some great candidate explaining those concept clearly ( hope you get hired on the next round of interview).2 -

Well, today I wake up, zombie like and I was searching throw all the new notifications on the phone...

I don't have any real world dev experience yet. I also dropped out of my Engineering study to start learning code on my own. But I did apply for an internship/traineeship. I just started out ( 1,5 months). I got invited for an interview and the big day is tomorrow. Super nervous. I expect no for an answer ofcourse. But what are ways too turn the tables around and possibly get this job?3

Is it possible to really learn azure or aws on your own without spending much money?
My company doesn't intend to go for cloud solutions but I feel that's what I want to work on. I'm nervous about accidentally creating a huge bill.8 -

I have my final interview this week and I am very excited and the more I think about it I get nervous.
This time one of the senior devs from last time will be present, some dude from the business department and another guy who had no information on the internet about himself.5 -
If you want to be strictly vegetarian, e.g. only eating plant-based food, and you have a nervous system (e.g. you're not a vegetable), then that's not possible. You need B12.
B12 is complex, and it can't be found in plants — lifeforms that obey laws of evolution don't just spend energy to create a complex substance they don't need. Plants don't have a nervous system, hence no need for B12.
In animal kingdom, there are no animals that are only eating plants. Not a single one of them. Herbivores eat their feces regularly, as B12 is there, but it's synthesized in our bodies at the point when there is no chance that it can be consumed.
Deer eat lemmings on a regular basis. Among herbivores, this is not uncommon.
If you want to be strictly vegetarian, and you don't want to eat B12 from supplements (because it's derived not from plants as you probably guessed), you can make it happen with certain kinds of fermented food, where B12 is synthesized by specific bacteria.23 -
Starting my first dev job next week (except for freelance work) and I'm crazy nervous that I'm going to make some huge mistake and look really stupid. Did anyone else have these fears before their first dev job and, if so, how'd you stay at least a little confident?4
-
Heyyy DevRant Fam! :D, hope everyone is doing very well today! i would love to get some input/advice from my fellow developer friends here today... so Milo has gotten himself into a sticky situation... So recently i had a little opportunity to get some mentor-ship or internship through a family friend, and im sooo excited but nervous at the same time.. i sometimes think to myself am i really 'good enough for such a position'?? but however since I've never really experienced this sort of work, whats their to lose? or is this a bad way too think about it? :D
so ladies and gents, I'm really interested in the stock market and that sort of finance, and i think id be a good fit to build tools for traders, if i cannot get into that sort of position, why not work back office and have more of a support role? I'm always very happy to work my way up as I'm highly motivated!, however in the case that i manage to get into such a position, I'd love to know, what sort of things do i need know to be able to land such a position? if you can give me any tips or advice id be extremely grateful! :D
If you have managed to get this far into my post, I'd love to say thank you so much! and i really apologize for rambling on... i generally always do that.... and also i want to say thank you so much for taking the time to read my question <3 really means a lot to me!
just quick note letting everyone know as a hobby project I'm building a little list app where i can save my favorite stock tickers/symbols into a list and see the price changes over time (through alphavantage's API) :D
Kind regards,
Milo <3 :-) -

Preparing for an interview tomorrow, am a nervous wreck. It's worse when you actually want the job and not just browsing through. The concept of your peers poking holes in your reasoning and deciding you're inadequate is far from appealing.3

Had my first ever technical interview! I usually interview well in like normal non dev interviews but I was so fucking nervous I couldn’t think when they asked me technical questions. I did a lot better on the written portion but damn I fucked that up. It’s for a co op position so I don’t think their expectations are super high but still fuck I feel dumb

I had my first trivia yesterday. I made so many dumb mistakes simply because I was nervous due to it being a test.
After it was over I implemented the solution that I fucked up in one of the puzzles.
Good start, I guess. I at least got 50% right, but I expect a rejection due to forgetting random facts, plus the failure to answer the embarrassingly easy puzzle that just required a stack and a reverse loop.
I need to desensitize myself.1 -
We're re doing our company website and they put a non dev on our team for extra "hands" but when she's pushing code and re writing my shit that makes me a little nervous. Good grief we need a merge to master5

Im going to my first internship interview as computer engineering tomorrow. it's a consulting company that works with FPGA development, im nervous because I would really like to work with it!
Q: are there some tips on interviews with smaller development companies? What are they looking for in a developer? What should I research beforehand?2 -

Interview in 14 days.Big company. I'm coming right out of school; they don't require any prior knowledge except knowing how to use a computer to a certain extent - it's a dual-study-thingy where you work and study to get a B.Sc. and later on maybe even a master's degree. Time is about 1hr. They need to hire someone to automate some processes, that's what I've been told.
What will they ask? How do I 'sell myself' the best way?
What's a total no-no specifically for tech interviews?2 -
Writing my 2. exam tomorrow (1. one just slightly missed minimum of points)

Handed off my code to Devs working on main products. Long presentation explaining everything.
Have discussion afterwards about what it does, but not how it looks.
They say thank you, I say you're welcome, and since this is my first bigger project, if they have some pointers or glaring defects in the code I'd welcome the feedback.
They all start laughing. I do too but in my head I'm like "wtf, I ask for feed back and you laugh? That's."
It's been bothering me.2 -
Any of you on prozac? My sister in Nevada was prescribed it a few years back and never took it because she was nervous and had heard bad things about it.
Shes been a manic depressive her whole life, and has always been anxious about every little thing since we were kids.
What was your experience with prozac if any?5 -

Has anyone ever had a lead developer interview you, and then be so much more nervous than the person they're interviewing? I feel like I've had this happen to me way to often.

Hello guys, apparently I'm going to write a thesis about Smart contracts and its benefits for the financial industry. Have you got any keywords I definitely should look into and write about in my thesis ? Just a little community brainstorm here. Would be glad if you could help me a little.
Also, do you think it's possible to fill about 50 pages in 8 week time ? The short time is making me nervous -
runbook: go manually dig and check some information, then run some sql on the prod database
Does manually running sql on prod database make anybody else feel nervous and gross?7 -
I'm a second year college student and I've had two interviews that both went well at one of the biggest security companies in the US. They said they'd get back to me within two weeks, and I've never been so nervous and excited in my life. I'd have to move to another state for the summer but I'd make a bit of money and have a great company on my resume if nothing else. Anybody here have any advice if I get the position?2

One truly must wonder at the semi smart people on this world who are totally ridiculous and silly weird nervous would be shutins and why they need to play their games... wonder what we’ve devolved to

After a couple weeks I'm going to do a #Flutter workshop level 1
I know that I got all the information and the topics about it, but the thing is when you know that the students I'll tech them are mostly bigger than me!!
Or my friends (same age)
So any advice about doing the whole workshop thing and about dealing with the students who are bigger then me?1 -
Anyone with Drupal experience out there? I got hired at an agency that uses it and I'm super nervous. Any ideas?

Hey gang,
I'm kind of interested in learning some hacking/virus basics. I wanted to try out some scripts but I'm kind da nervous. Can I run simple viruses on a VM without worrying about my laptop getting infected too? I would think so, but I wanna be sure.
Also, if you have any resources you can point me to, that would be great. Thanks!2 -

Welp guys I'm taking my GRE tomorrow and I'm still nervous even though I've studied well for about 2 months. Never been good with competetive exams but just hoping to do my best. I don't know why I'm scared. Have given enough mock tests and always averaged above 316
Anyways I am planning to apply for masters in general CS/ NLP-AI. Wanted to tell abt it here because of the awesome people here! Any tips you guys got for me?2 -
So I remade a video today and the precision to which peoples nervous systems behave is ridiculous when it comes to reproducing willful actions when surrounded by other people recreating willful actions sigh
And here in thought I’d had a new idea
Oh well not this time
However does remind me the dirty slut bags fucked men over for no reason at all again -

I am going to my first hackathon in 2 weeks and am kind of nervous. I don't know anyone and don't have a team. I was wandering if it is a requirement to work on a project? There will be a lot of workshops and I am sure I will learn a lot even without working on a project.
If you could give me some hints on what I can expect that would be really helpful. -
Has anyone tried remoterinterview.io js test, I have to give one this Saturday #nervous #interviews
Any tips?? -
Going to my first front-end meetup right now. Probably won't understand a thing from lectures, drink a beer, utter not a single word to anyone and go home. Wish me luck!

Am I the only one who's hands start shaking when about to send "CHANGE MASTER TO" on a dev server?
Happened to me yesterday, replication got stuck after corrupting a relay log file when the database segfaulted under my hands.
I could check and recheck the positions I was about to reset it to a bilion times and I was still nervous! -
Tomorrow I'm going to my first international travel, and it isn't just that, I'm also going to work there.
Am I nervous? A lit lot hehe
Am I ready for it? I'm not sure, even my bag isn't ready for it.
But I hope that everything will be alright and in the end of day, if nothing goes well, I'm gonna know that it is going to be a great experience
