I'm not much of a front-end dev and tasked myself to make a site for the dev group I'm in. Figured that it doesn't need any big libraries since it's a simple one page.
Boy was I wrong. After about 3 to 4 hours of getting nowhere with css, switched to Bulma and in about half an hour, not only did it look decent but it was responsive and fast and clean.
Bless bulma and it's developers. Sure saved my ass3 -
An undefined ArrayList coupled with NullPointerExceptions because of it really know how to raise your blood pressure up.
Spent almost 1 hour trying to figure out why and all I needed to do was look a couple lines above.
But I guess that's what 4am development is all about -
Finally put my desktop back together after about 2 years of keeping it in storage and now I feel a bit sad because my laptop has become obsolete 😂1

Well, after about a grueling week of messing about with android and firebase and let's not forget that !gorgeous Google documentation, I managed to push out my first app!
It's based on Learn X in Y minutes, which I am a really big fan of, and it's basically a mobile reader version of it.
It's available here https://play.google.com/store/apps/...
And the source code is also available here https://github.com/modelorona/...
I welcome any critique. I'm positive there's some stuff wrong in there, would be obvious to you but not me :)
And happy late new years! I actually released the app at 3:50 am yesterday :D6 -

If you're in Glasgow come join the Google developers group's first meetup! -
Anyone have any experience with organising hackathons from the very start? I'm part of the Google developer group for my city and am a co organizer with a friend. We're not planning on one this year but we would definitely like to organize one for next year. Could anyone give some tips on how I could perhaps finesse sponsors into participating? 😁1

Project teammate has abnormally erotic feelings for bootstrap. I understand why it's useful in some cases but he's using only like 10% of it (the grid) and not even using it properly1

Any startup founders/co-founders, I'm curious to know if there are any good serious websites that offer explanations on various aspects of running a startup and common pitfalls and the like. I've looked at some but I figure it would be best if anyone who has done it before could redirect me to something :)3

Saw Black Sabbath today, final tour. Was quite sad but it felt good to see all of them giving it all. So much energy8 -
To all my sysadmins/devops, what's your opinion on GoAccess (if you've used it or are currently using it)?

Looking for advice here.
Is it wise to use nginx instead of Apache if running php (in regards to the LAMP stack)? And can php be kept strictly in the backend? I've never used php before and now I get the chance (yippie) so I want to hear what you guys have to say. Previously I've used node. And also, can frontend libraries like react or vue be used alongside php or is it just going to turn into a smorgasbord of nonsense.
Thank you for any advice :)5 -
Today I flew from London to Glasgow and had to carry my laptop in my suitcase since I don't have a proper laptop bag. Was extremely nervous the whole time even though I cushioned it as much as possible. Then I get home and on CSS tricks I see this on the screen and freak out thinking my screen got messed up. Turns out it's my adblocker doing work :D6

At my parents house for the holidays and I don't have my original "duck" so I had to get a new one. Handmade out of rubber and metal and looks damn awesome5

Up until maybe 7th grade (I am now 19 and a first-year in uni) I used Internet Explorer. Even when Firefox was out and about, I still used Internet Explorer. Now, I use chrome and Firefox interchangeably1

Chrome vs Firefox ram usage. Chrome running 1 tab (moodle) and Firefox a blank startup tab. I was genuinely surprised to see Firefox using more than 50% more compared to chrome. Both browsers are 64 bit and chrome has perhaps 10 extensions while Firefox only 59

My people in the UK, preferably in Scotland, how long did it take for your stickers to arrive? I've been waiting maybe 2 weeks now3

Is Vue worth learning compared to react and angular? I have absolutely no experience with either one but was looking at Vue earlier and got curious3

Android studio surprisingly hasn't crashed or frozen or given me any problems for the past couple days...maybe I've been taking too many hallucinogens1
