Did you ever had your dream come true?

With dream, I'm not talking about something you did rationally choose. I'm talking about something what you want with no specific reason. For me, it was becoming a programmer, as little kid already. Thank God it was nothing material. I think it's a good dream. It's achievable and solves some life issues like money automatically. I'm lucky.

I’m working on it. I’m making my own game dev studio.

@ars1 nice. In that case you have a lot of resource on this site like Bordeddev, D-4got10-01 and 12bitfloat.

How would you describe the gamestudio / dream? Will it have a office, employees? Do you want to program games full time or do you also like the being boss part?

Guess I'm dreamless. Fell into my current profession kind of by an accident.

    A very happy accident, though.

Then again, in time, I should be able to fulfill my dream of learning programming.

Writing a working program is just very cool && fulfilling.

    /* && frustrating at times, but what isn't? */

in lots of forms of magic that's basically how they "manifest reality". you set an intent then forget about it and it works subconsciously

can't say my luck has worked out that way. plus I'm extremely self-aware of my motivations at all times

... programming did not solve my money problem. pretty sure being a store clerk would've been a more dignified career with far less depression and all that

    sigh

    I wish though

it was just something I was good at so when I had to make the choice I chose it. but I don't like the office politics

@D-4got10-01 can be frustrating, it only does for me if it's something easy and had to test a few times before getting it right. But no pain, no gain!

Also, more people want to have your job than mine :P Your job is a dream job according to many people.

@retoor Yeah, there's a quote that goes sth like 'Nothing worth having comes easy'.

The 2nd one is also true - too many misconceptions. People go w/ 'Oh, fun - you're playing games all day.'

    Yeah, right...

@D-4got10-01 they forgot drinking coffee :P Do you also have to complete games? More than once? I've played only nine games out in my life. medabots (GBA), pokemon (red?) (GBC), Call Of Duty (normal + UO), harry potter and his freaking overrated stone (GBC), GTA Vice City (PC), Call Of Duty ??? (playstation 3), Mighty Goose or something? (DOS game), Need for Speed Underground 1. And maybe ducktales on DOS?

Wow, the list is longer than I expected.

@D-4got10-01 I upgraded to gluhwein. I updated previous message btw.

@retoor Thanks for the info - read the message again.

I know && have played some of those, too ;-).

Anyway I have done quite a lot of multiple playthroughs for many games.

If I consider it'll be worth it, I tend to create master saves, that allow me to re-visit game at various locations.

Also, testing Achievements is a very tedious task. Especially true for the ones for which you have to do some form of grinding.

For now it’s just 3 of us. We want to make our game studio as cheap as possible to run. No offices, minimal expenses, minimum requirements to keep a company running. Fully private. Full remote.

I don’t care about being the boss, I care about having a common goal and vision, and someone to work with. Have a team of people with skin in the game, and all wanting to make cool stuff. I’m happy I finally found someone I can do this with, even if it will take time for us to get good at this.

Any success and every failure will be our own, rather than me selling my labor to a boss. I can see myself working for a game company for a while as a learning experience, but it’s not necessary. We know what niche to start with. We may eventually hire or contract someone, but we haven’t discussed the details.
I am sick of the corporate life. The tech industry is shit and I want out. And I’m going to make it happen.
