Client: My mouse is working backwards
me: *rotates mouse 180 degrees*
Client: Thanks! You even brought the buttons back!18 -
WHOA
My grandpa just gave me 100$ for fixing his TV:
-And here is you paycheck son...
-What? Noo, it was literally 2 minutes factory reset, I don't need this :D
-Oh come on. I'm not paying you because you because you pressed some buttons. I pay you, because you exactly knew which buttons to press. Now, take it!
Truly, the man of honor...12 -
I just saw a website that hid the login and sign up buttons while ad block was enabled. No popups or anything asking me to disable the ad block.
Well played developer, well played.6 -
When I was a kid, I used Dreamweaver and my mother would watch me doing things and she used to say "Oh, my dear there are lots of icons and buttons!!! How do you manage that? How do you know which one is for what purpose? You are really brilliant."
And now I use Atom IDE and she says "This looks very easy. Technology has evolved so much that you don't have to click so many buttons and just write simple lines, just as simple as writing letters and the software does the rest of the things. These softwares have done a brilliant job."
Seriously the technology has changed (and my mother too) !!!11 -
I really think DevRant should change "Comment" buttons to "//" or "/**/", or something in that fashion. That would fit well with the increments and decrements :)23

Have to share some pillow talk with the wife last night - somehow got onto the subject of washing machines. Mentioned that most washing machines run on something like Java, she disagreed and said they run on buttons. BUTTONS!!
Told her I would be putting this on devrant.7 -
Client: So you want 50 bucks for 5 minutes work pushing some buttons;
Me: Well yes. I didn't just pushed some buttons... I pushed them in the right sequence and solved your problem.8 -

Who the fuck thought this feature would be a good idea?!
*holds the power button because want to reboot*
*presses reboot in the tiny menu*
*walks away to return in about an hour*
"Are you sure you want to reboot?" *cancel and OK buttons*
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.5 -
Web devs are like autocorrect:
- You're needed but never told you are
- You're great at your job, but everyone complains about your few faults
- You learn more as you work with the client
- You improve little by little every day
- Your buttons are pushed a lot
- You use new technologies when you can8 -
When you think you are a fairly decent programmer, then you try to align two buttons next to each other in CSS5
-
This girl from financial department pissed me off so badly I took 15 minutes of my private time to slightly modify CSS and JS for her user in our intranet panel, made everything pink and blue, animate all the buttons to randomly barrel roll and made the mouse cursor explode colourful star particles with each click.
She *liked* it, said it was *sweet* and *apologized* for being an ass. Robbed me of all the satisfaction. :(6 -

My cousin on 12 was watching me edit my site and asked if he can do it too.
Two hours later he comes running to me with a twinkle in his eye to show of his creation. He made a simple html site with buttons and checkboxes and what not.
Now he is learning JS and getting frustrated because it is not adding HTML snippets dynamically...
I am a proud brother :]6 -
This kind of bullshit advertising is the reason everybody thinks we can do that every new whimp of the client within a few minutes.
Fuck off! Making real custom websites/apps takes time, planning, design, coding and testing. Its not just pressing a few buttons.
Translation: Make a website? 30 minutes.14 -
I laughed at how in the movies hacking is portrayed as some person clicking a lot buttons really quickly in a very flashy UI. There's a picture of America and sometimes there's a 3d model rotating for no good reason or a bunch of random numbers floating across the screen. They use random hacking related terms like: backdoor, DDoS...etc in their sentences.
At least they did their research...15 -
Have you ever noticed something?
Those people who are somewhat into PC gaming and then have a day job behind the desk pushing buttons...
...More often than not have their hand resting position on WASD / left shift / space ?
Every time I notice this on myself or anyone else - kinda find it amusing 😄8 -
Irony: A robot that clicks for me on the "I'm not a robot" buttons.

That moment when something bad happens and ctrl+Z pops in to your head. Then realise ur not using a computer.1

How can people be so fucking stupid?
Imagine I made a program with two buttons, one that says "click here for x" and the other that says "click here for y" and they are asking me where to click for x.. Really mother fucker? Do you really have a PhD? Might me a PhD on retardness!! fuck you, I'm on vacation...7 -
Me: *spends 4+ hours refactoring existing spaghetti, ensuring components are modular, easier to test and fault tolerant*
Project manager: ...
Also me: *adds pre-loader image to register and login buttons when user submits form*
Project manager: *All excited* Awesome work. 🙌That's some nice improvement..
Like wtf dude 😳..

Sandra, calm the fuck down. You have a website with some reading material, a form and a few buttons. Get over yourself.2 -
I have a problem.
My phone has "Rant" and [Comment] burned into the screen, along with the Facebook and share buttons. It's faint, but it's absolutely there.12 -
DevRant doesn't have any friend requests or follow buttons. If you're interested in someone, you need to do fair old school stalking.5

Fixed a project for a collegue.
Him: How did you fix things, what's the process?
Me: Click stuff and press Buttons randomly until it works.
Him: ... That's all you did?
Me: Yup, the rest is just experience. -
Me:(kills the CTRL +S buttons saving something)
Boss: what are you doing ?
Me: nothing much, saving a document.
Boss: is that the best way to save it?
Me: no, it got saved the very first time, the rest is to convince my heart I saved it.
Boss: ... ... ... fair enough.5 -
So, the HR has made it mandatory to fill a Google form,
fill in info about yourself (name, employee ID),
your family (name, address),
and select radio buttons for symptoms like fever, cough, cold.
You must fill this form DAILY, and if you miss filling the google form, it will be Loss of pay for whole day.
Yes, so if I have contracted coronavirus, and am running a high fever, first thing I'll do is login, open a shitty ass google form and select a bunch of stupid radio buttons.
And if I'm not ill, I'll still go and fill this form every single day.
Because fuck logic.13 -
"Unless it's the big red button with launch codes, there are no buttons you can press that I can't unpress"

Has anybody noticed some people's undying obsession with making their 2018 websites look like they're from 2001? Some of our clients INSIST on using site entry pop-ups, scrolling marquee text, and as many flashing buttons as possible on their sites. These are the type of people who think: "The number of buttons on my website directly correlates to the amount of money my site makes me. I want 12 buttons, all worded slightly differently, that all link to the same exact page. This will sell more of my product. From all of my experience in UX, I am positive that users will respond to a flashing neon colored button labeled "SAVE NOW!!!!!" Nevermind that your company employs professional UX Engineers. I know more than them."7

Every time I use Javascript it feels like flying a plane with no gas in the middle of nowhere, all buttons in Chinese, only driving knowedge is scooters and yet somehow I land the plane in its destination.5

Supporting slavery has become insanely easy these days. All you have to do is press a few buttons to order something on Amazon.
It's insane how far technology has come ...11 -
Just upgraded to Android 12 and what the fuck is this new UI
make it stop
Hm yes let's make the buttons 14 times larger than they need to be, also put text on them no one ever needed34 -
Yea #deletefacebook is fine and all but what about putting fucking Like-Buttons all over the goddamn web. Care about that, would ya?!? You're not any bit better than zuckerfuck if you are doing this on your site!5

Me at midnight: let's release a demo build
Me at 1 am: why are there so many bugs? Why won't it compile.
Me at 2 am: omg finally compiled. Runs it, buttons don't work. Closes it, reopens it. Buttons work.
Me at 3 am: let's write apologetic posts for the bugs, but post the version anyway
Me at 4 am: why do I advertise in so many places
Me at 5 am: let's update the patreon reward tiers
Me at 5:30 am: nah fuck this, going to bed.
Mom at 9 am: wake the hell up we need you to dig out a hill and build a stone wall around one side of the house.
Me: omg wtf why.
Me at 2:30 pm: why the hell are we doing this, I have so many bugs to patch and everyone knows they are there because I told them all!5 -
Loving the ++ / -- buttons! I was happy to see that change rolled out this morning.
Keep up the great work guys!1 -
"No time for implementing a new alert with buttons, so the radio buttons' one should do for now..."4

Congratulations? For fucking what. So you built a wix website. Now youre a web developer and the whole world knows it, my services aren't needed anymore.
Congratulations you bypassed half a decade in 50 hours a week of coding, then you have the bone and fucking marrow of emailing me because your like buttons are causing users to create a new instagran account. Good one kid.3 -
Wonder if they programmed the buttons to be that weird layout, if not (If someone here would get it) we should be able to overwrite it (not by changing the keycaps) 😅😉6

"Why not adding fancy buttons when you could fix serious issues" - Android devs everyday
Oh, yeah, and the battery issue without having the ability to change the behavior of app, background apps and whatnot. Cuz battery is the forbidden apple that Android loves to feed on so muchhhh1 -
Hardware of laptops today.
Displays: Glossy screens everywhere. "Hurr durr it has better colors". Idgaf what colors it has, when the only thing I can see is the wall behind me and my own reflection. Make it matte or get it out.
Touchpads: Bring back mechanical buttons. Haptic feedback dying with touchscreens/surfaces is a tragedy. "But we can have bigger touchpad area without buttons" ...why? the goal shouldn't be 1:1 touchpad vs. display ratio. It ain't a bloody tablet.
Docking stations: Some bright fucker figured out that they can utilize USB C. That thing keeps falling out with slightest laptop movement disconnecting all peripherals (guess why microUSB had those small hooks?). Also it doesn't have sufficient throughput, so the 5 years old dock can feed 3 full HD monitors just fine and the new one can't.
Keyboards: Personally I hate chiclet. And it's everywhere, because "apple has it so we must too". But the thing I hate even more is retardation of the arrow keys (up and down merged into size of one key), missing dedicated Home/End/PgDwn/PgUp buttons and somebody deciding the F keys are not needed and started replacing them with some multimedia bullshit.
My overall feeling is that this happens when you give the market to designers and customer demand. You end up with eye candy and useless fancy gadgets, with lowered ergonomy and worse features than previous generations of the same hardware. My laptop dying is my daily nightmare as I have no idea with what on the current market I would replace it.5 -
My clock radio is missing these two crucial buttons:
A) Snooze-After-This-Song
B) Snooze-Until-Next-Song

Make your cookies banner have equal "Accept All" and "Reject All" buttons, and I'll probably Accept All.
Bury rejection under a fucking "Manage Cookies" button and I will go out of my way to disable/opt out of every fucking one of them.
Also why the fuck would rejecting all take "a few minutes" but accepting be instantaneous?
Fucking hell.18 -
For security purposes, it should be good practice to lock your pc when you walk away. At my office, we practice harmless pranks when someone forgets, to "teach them a lesson". Usually just involves reversing/inverting displays, reversing mouse buttons, or changing the desktop background like this (because everyone is a closet bronie apparently)16

I miss laptop keyboards like this...
Look at delete and esc buttons!
😍
P.S.: No commercials here..you can't find this anymore! Even that company stopped from produce laptop like this..!16 -
iOS 11 you buggy piece of shit!
Layouts breaking all around, can’t figure out if it’s in landscape or portrait mode, lock menu disapearing, minimizing apps breaks them...
Oooh, you invented a GENIUS NEW option to turn mobile data on from launch control, but WiFi and Bluetooth buttons don’t turn these off, but disconnect from current network... WHOSE SMART ASS IDEA WAS THAT? BURN IN UX HELL ASSHOLE!
Haven’t seen a worse update since Vista...6 -
My first learned programming language is Pascal. Really enjoy the feeling of using the blue Editor to code. Just like the hacker described in those movie. And the most satisfying things of programming in Pascal is to make a GUI interface. Using the draw command, and write every buttons and layout. And amazed with the setfillstyle options.7
-
My own personal hell was a html page that had a script tag that called a rest endpoint that sent back a text block of JavaScript that was then dynamically executed to redirect the user to a php 3 page that was the exact same thing as the original page but with an extra bit of css to make the buttons blue and slightly rounded
You can’t make this shit up6 -
Just received a support request that the lift is broken and requesting I fix it... Their reasoning? It has buttons and lights up (I'm dev/IT at small company)4

The secretaries at my university had to scan documents in the masters students lab. So one day, when the lab was empty save one of our secretaries, I remote into my machine and write a text to speech app and have the computer announce "Hello Selma, you really know how to push my buttons"
It took a while, but we are friends again :D -
Man, programming is the only thing that can make you feel the most amazing person on the entire universe after seeing 3 buttons, some box appearing or an image moving.7

Buttons that say "Yes, please" should be "Yes".
"No, thanks" should be "No".
"Not now" should be "Never".
I am using software, not talking to people, there's no need to be nice.11 -
What kind of stupid verification is this ??
apparently, you have to hit the arrow buttons till the animal in the "front" is straight fro the screen and press on done, and if not done in 5 seconds, it says you need to faster, WTAF!!!9 -
Context: been coding for a year and been on react for 6months.
So im excited to talk about my achievements. Of which making buttons and menus which i share with my beloved partner.
Few months later I'm confident about my skills (that is not being a simple mortal anymore),so i come back home and my wife kindly asks me:
“how are you today darling? Have you been succesful with your buttons today?”
.... I had to say yes.... -
You know the UI/UX is bad when you have all kinds of navigation controls in your app
- Side menu
- Navigation bar with 4 bar buttons
- Tab bar buttons
- Floating menu button on the lower right2 -
Some genius at Google Chrome team just fucked up the minimise, close buttons of the application in KDE.
Thank man, just what I needed.6 -

created a Clickbait Destroyer chrome extension for facebook, It detects a bait and adds a destroy bait icon along with the like, comment and share buttons. On clicking the icon, the content from the bait site(bait content) is placed inside the comment textarea. Give a look at github: https://github.com/JSSaini07/...
share your views,Thanx :D3 -
I recently recognized voting buttons are (++) and (--), then shared my friend near me but he didn't get anything. I explained what do they mean.
Thanks devRant, a lawyer started to learn programming 😁2 -
Since there are too many button styles, I made a website to collect them:

Please, flood me with your buttons, let me add them to the wall, I need them, I want them, my precious27 -
Learning mobile development so far has been 5% writing code and 95% screaming at .XML documents. It's been 8 hours of work and all I have to show for it is a few buttons and a really shitty UI6

Found a rather annoying Windows 11 bug
explorer.exe, if the window is unfocused, the window buttons are correctly sized. But if you focus the window, the "maximize" button goes all retarded.11 -
While messing around with the Windows WM_NCPAINT message, I forced the WindowProc to return without calling DefWindowProc.
This resulted in interesting effects when pressing mouse buttons down on the right hand side of the title bar. This is on Windows 10.
Bottom part of the image is when I clicked on things and is Windows 9x-XP style. Top part of the image is when the window was deactivated and is Vista/Windows 7 style. Once they appear, the buttons behave as they did (visually - e.g. highlighting) as they did on those versions of Windows.
Just found it funny to see older bits of the Windows UI still hanging around behind the scenes!3 -
On websites: "I don't want to see an arrow cursor on the buttons."
On desktop applications: "I don't want to see a hand cursor on anything!"4 -
Me trying to take a screenshot with iOS 12:
*holds home and presses lock* (the only way I had found to reliably take a screenshot in previous versions): Siri
Fuck off Siri I want a screenshot!
*tries again same way*: Siri
Fuck OFF Siri!
*holds lock + home*: phone locks
Christ almighty.
*unlocks phone, presses home and lock at the exact same time*
Nothing happens.
*continues holding* I just want my fucking screenshot.
Phone powers off. Hard reset.
Fuck this shit.
How hard is it to monitor two buttons being pressed at the same time? And if it is so damn hard why make it the ONLY WAY TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT??!
Now whenever I want a screenshot it’s basically a crapshoot whether I will get a screenshot, Siri barging in, or my phone locking on me.
Couldn’t they have just used the volume buttons instead? 😡12 -
@dfox the reply and modify buttons on the last comment in a rant on iphone6 is very close to the social media icons and comment button.
So close that its easy to hit the wrong one. A little extra padding in the bottom so that you can scroll half a centimeter more would help a lot.3 -
spent a week on medical leave, came back to utter chaos? my boys, you can't do my shitty job for a week? lmao
everything was dropped halfway through the week, a lot of old data live, shit passing the deadline. and I don't do much, just press the freaking buttons 🤦♀️ -
Stop rounding the corners of content!!!!! Round corners are meant for buttons!!!! Not my fucking video!!!!11

Dear Microsoft, stop pushing me to update to Windows 11.
I still haven’t changed my mind and I won’t change it even if you ask me for the 6th time.
Just stop being an annoying bitch, please!
Also, one button is completely enough. You don’t need to make me click 3 or more buttons in different places just to remove your Win 11 messages which you keep slamming into my face.4 -

To the Devs at OnePlus,

Time to add a new feature in an Android app:-
Java code with basic layout to implement the feature - 1 hour
Polishing the layout - 30 mins
Time to fucking make the scroll view wrap around the text and not overflow in the dialog so that the buttons below are visible - 6-10 hours!!!12 -
Coworker was adversarial from the get. He would always bully me by saying “You better do [BLANK]!” whenever we’d discuss tasks to be done. He eventually pushed my buttons too many times. I responded to his bullying tactic by yelling back, “IF I DON’T, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT!? Stop bullying me and let’s work TOGETHER on this!” I realize now he was fucking with my head.2

PM and UX designer talks.
About a feature on android with viewpager (swipeable views) and a header with buttons.
PM : We need a back button and a close button on the header.
UX : A customer will be confused by both, with the swipe too.
PM : Then we need a close button alone.
UX : Customer will search for back button and not everyone might swipe left.
PM : We need a back button alone.
UX : Customer might not know how to close the view. He can't keep going back back back.
PM : we don't need any buttons.
UX : Customer should find it easy to close or go back.
PM : bruv.2 -
Riding along on a demo is the worst thing ever.
-Customer clicks buttons and things happen-
Customer: "Hey that's cool!"
Customer is now happy and excited.
Sales: "Hey would you like it to also.... "

Microsoft after changing the toolbar buttons layout in Outlook from horizontally aligned on the bottom to vertically aligned on the left edge:

So, I got a ticket to make a page using a given wireframe that had submit buttons and other buttons to add more items in the wireframe.
So, I pull the html, hook up the abilty to submit the form and add items, and send it out for review.
One comment on the review.
"Remove the functionality, you'll handle it in the next ticket"
So I commented out the javascript. Guess what I'm doing on the next 10 minutes.1 -
“3mb JavaScript over dialup” - Before I knew how to write proper JavaScript I once wrote a calendar scheduling app in php that generated all of the functions for all of the buttons for all of the times for all of the days currently being displayed... the result was a 3mb JavaScript file... in the days of dial up modems...2

My last successful project was a small project I did together with my gf in javascript. She needed to make some algorithms for school for transfering
freight containers and picking them up. I made some visuals and buttons for her to press. And she added a file with algorithms based on the helper functions I created. such as: GetFirstEmptyPosition() or PlaceContainerAt(x, y)
She learned a bit of programming. And I learned a bit of javascript.5 -
Person:"you're a dev, you must reeeaaaly get frustrated with semi colons 😏"

Reporter: We are now here reporting live from the native mobile app wilderness. As you can see in our captured footage, a developer is going rampage over some mobile UI components.
Native iOS: grrrr... I hate radio buttons!!!..grrr...dropdown lists, too! keep them away from me! I'm allergic to android and web controls, d*mn it! what kind of designer are you!?!
Reporter: That's it for today's devRant episode. Back to you, Steve.1 -
First time I was screaming out of anger while looking at code.
I'm doing a group project in my university.
We are developing a indoor navigation Android app.
And a team mate of mine just merged this…
/*Method for help-feature.
Sets all the TouchEvents that are at least 400 ms long. This is made for all the relevant buttons or editTexts, which are seen on the mapView.
The case for mapView is needed because otherwise the other buttons, etc. wont work properly.*/
public void setButtonsForHelpDialog(){
View v = mapView;
switch (v.getId()) {
case R.id.mapview:
mapView.setOnTouchListener(…);
case R.id.buttonUp:
buttonOn.setOnTouchListener(…);
case R.id.buttonDown:
buttonDown.setOnTouchListener(…);
…
case R.id.description:
description.setOnTouchListener(…);
}}
The code is really aligned like this - no breaks. And it's even worse. There are if statements like if("constantly false var" == true). Which is highlighted by Android Studio.
This is done in a own class. The views are set via public member variables of this new class. The constant vars were added in the actual class holding the buttons and also stuff like this useless method
public void getDoStuff() {
doStuff()
}
And I could continue like this.
I never saw code this bad…
I can't even find words for it :/4 -
Twitter app update: Home/Search/Notifications/Messages buttons jump from the top of the screen to the bottom. What a productive sprint this must have been at Twitter.6

Anyone know what the fucking outcome of clicking either these buttons is going to be? The button I clicked to get to this modal said "Buy Season £7.49"3

Damn i had to use windows yesterday, it was awful. I was coding for 3 hours without saving and the out of the blue, windows decided to not update because i have the mental capacity to press 3 buttons to schedule updates to 6am when i dont use my pc.5

Why has Google implemented those stupid menu bar buttons across the bottom of their apps. Isn't the YouTube app over jammed already. With most android phones using on screen buttons, you have to reach your thumb over the bezel, nav buttons and menu bar just to make a scroll motion for your content. I've sent Google feedback multiple times to of course (typical Google) to no avail. Let iOS have lower third menu buttons. We don't all have an S8, which as I see it is the only way this is alleviated.14

Had a dream last night...
My grandmother gave me a flip phone as a present. My first thought was "really?"
But after flipping it open, I found that it had some gaming buttons (A, B, Start, etc). Also, it had a place to insert Gameboy games.
It was the most 90's/early 2000's phone ever.2 -
Client: my video player has two play buttons.
Me: ok that's weird let me check yes it does have two play buttons your right so turns out the client has taken a screenshot of another video player with the play button still on it and used that as their poster image hence two play buttons.
Finding it impossible to explain this to them arrrrggggghhh why why why1 -
Designer makes an app Mockup using an iOS template. I make the android version and the ios dev makes his version.
Upon completion, the client rejects mine saying that I forgot to put back buttons in the top left corner of each screen.
My face when he didn't reject the ios version for not having a hardware back button. 🤦♂️ -
Is there a way to disable the social media buttons and if not could that be built in?
I keep pressing the buttons by accident when I move my finger to the back button. And I cannot even use them because I dont have an account at those platforms.18 -

I’m a backend - spaghetti - developer, and today i took the biggest mindfuck in my life when i found out that it’s possible to have functional mockups... at first glance i tought that i’ve only received a screenshot collection of what the designer did... guess what... i was able to click lè buttons and go trough the whole application flow.
Thanks Adobe for xD ...
I should get a freakin designer job.4 -
Common misconception is that low efficiency technologies (react native, in this case) are completely useless. That is not true at all. Im building a smart home, and yes i want a mobile app, but 90% is just requests to endpoints, so its way simpler to just copy paste some buttons inside a js file than do it properly with native. Would i use it in prod? Fuck no. Would i hack together a bunch of buttons? Fuck yes.8
-
Can I just say fuck Xcode? How the fuck have I been working on an app for over 3 hours and only now when I do the first compile do you feel like showing me an "Internal Error" message which has caused all of the buttons, labels, text and just objects in general to disappear4

Ever get assigned a defect like this?
First click any radio button and hit the Next button. Then on the next screen click some buttons and hit back button. Then hit next, change a radio selection, hit back, then next, then back, then next and eventually page will bomb out.
Wtf am I supposed to do with this?!5 -
It is sad to say, but programming in C# using Visual Studio basically consists of clicking buttons, dragging and dropping files and checking / unchecking checkboxes in order to get everything generated.
Where are to good old days, when code still had to be typed. :(19 -
I don't understand how people can write code, but be completely inept at developing software.
Take a zoom feature:
SOLUTION 0:
- Use 2 buttons
- Use 2 button listeners
- Use 2 float variables (for each button).
- Don't log anything.
- Use 3 crazy, hardcoded, constant, int literals like 66, 30...
- both buttons manipulate the same text field.
- no logging.
- Both listeners use if/else to check if the variable is within a range -- one if/else for each listener.
- Use crazy method calls to get text size.
SOLUTION 1:
- Use a slider.
- Use a single listener.
- No variables needed.
- Use a linear equation for zooming.
- has logging.8 -
Didn't realize buttons will submit the first form on a page, coded without this assumption, went into production without anyone noticing. Cost the client about 8 grand in work that had to be redone.1

A simple poll
Let's say there is a program or whatever sort of thing that does the exact same thing except the gui...
1. A shitty gui with default buttons, etc but with ok paddings and margins so that it is a bit usable (if it is a web app, no css) -- 5MB
2. A super cool 1337 h4X0R looking gui with awesome animations -- 100MB
What is your choice?20 -

What's your opinion on these sharp and very defined icons? Personally, I don't like them because they are too skinny. I like big, meaty icons and buttons because they seem less frustrating to click. There's nothing worse than a UI with tiny buttons.23

Why are the ++ and -- buttons in a light grey on default, making me think they are disabled, but on my own rants and comments they look like they are enbled while they are actually disabled?2

We use Unity in university to display the workings of algorithms.

If i can make all buttons on the website manageble.
Haha just asking for 300 changes in a single issue. Wtf -
Someone posted this to our shared channel. I'm so tired of people thinking that developers "just need to push a few buttons".
Am I crazy for believing that all I can accomplish in 4 hours is read their documentation (or there lack of), and maybe write few tests for the slew of things they'll be asking for??? And maybe, just maybe, get my local environment running.
Why does everyone think that developers know the location of the "magic button"???3 -
I have set up a raspberry pi and screwed it with some switches and buttons to the wall next to my bed, so I don't have pick the remote which lays on my shelf...
The pi handles the buttons and switches and sends infrared signals to TV, stereo and receiver ^^1 -
Does anybody realize that most installers which have a "show more" button, doesn't have a "show less" button after you clicked it?
Nobody thinks about such things.2 -
I get questions a lot online on how to do something with programming. (at least it's not someone asking me to help with their printer). I have no clue why they keep asking me though, I don't know how to do shit. I just google and press buttons until it does something somewhat cool.1

Sort of off topic but why can't you un-press buttons in elevators?
Seems like a no brain feature to me14 -
I love when teachers know nothing about technology and when something closes, or in their mind “their pc breaks”, they hit a bunch of random buttons or keys and make it worse.2

Who is the brain-damaged engineer at Samsung that decided that a capacitive touch buttons on an induktion cooktop is the way to go. As soon a waterdrop falls on any button the stove goes "FUCK IT, I'M OUT" and shut itselfs off for about 30 seconds.
How wonderful when you have 4 different pots that must have different temperatures and you must use each [+] - button sequentially because the idiot engineer was to lazy to make the input be able to handle several buttons at once!
Stupid idiot engineer and QA department!2 -
"Web design has a bad reputation for being stylistically trendy and same-looking. Some guy does a parallax scrolling site, and now your boss wants you to add that to your corporate PR website for some reason. Glossy buttons, Gaussian Noise, linen texture, new things that look fake-old, then back to minimalism and flat colors as a reaction to the glossy noisy textured fake-old stuff." - Jonas Downey1

Me: "Those are two separate screens. One is the user inventory, the other populates an add"
PM: "So which is it? Are we using checkboxes or radio buttons?"
Me:"...both? Each where it makes sense?"
PM: "So what's the point of the radio button? If the user can only click one row, why do we need a radio button?"
Me: "Visual representation of what they selected. We could use row highlighting as well, it doesn't really matter"
PM: "But what's the point?"
Me:"...."7 -

My mom is a basic user that needs to use only basic apps to chat and speak with family, post photos and play one or two games.
She is always ranting about how difficult is to do simple things. And she is mostly right.
Like, where are my fucking photos gone?
Why is facebook/whasapp/whatever different today, where are the fucking buttons gone?
what the fuck happened (when while clicking something a update windows popup and you click something else). Why the buttons are so small (when you want to close a fucking ad windows with a little invisible fucking "x" somewhere and you click the ad instead)?
I don't want no fucking cookies.
Why after windows update my fucking game doesn't work anymore. Why I can't hear anything through the fucking skype?
The fact that she knows I'm one of the moron who builds kind of not-usable and buggy fucking things, doesn't help.2 -
A customer once wanted buttons that would close the mask in an interface where the only way to close the mask was to click a default "OK" button. 🤔
So in the end we implemented a script on the customer's buttons that would send a calculated number of multiple keypresses of tab, tab, tab and finally enter on the default button. 🤑
It is still running in production and I will never ever touch it again! 😁 -
Fucking Android 12 everybody hate it, it's ugly, and what has changed from 11 besides everything you already know. 90% of time pressing volume down + power to take a screen shot will result with volume bar popup first then screenshot, so your screenshot is dirty with volume bar.
They must have adjusted time threshold between how fast/precise press of both buttons is, and now you kind of must be faster and alwas this "I need to press 2 buttons but power must be pressed first"
So fuck you google engineers for ruining Android in every sense. I want revert path, I'm going back to 11!!
It's a first major upgrade that is worse than previous, and those ugly tiles and notifications, cool they are big for what exactly? I still can't operate the phone with hand gloves on the motorcycle with tiny keyboard buttons.
It's like everything is tiny and then grandpa style huge top drawer icons for who knows what with so fucking annoying scrolling text, for fuck sake 11 had is just perfect!5 -

It's so awesome and useful!
Mapped all Makros I use while programming to it.
I also have some CPU/RAM info and media buttons (play/pause/next/...).
You can even add website buttons. For example for Github or Stackoverflow!
Not sure if it's faster to use it but it's way cooler :)
Check it out!
Just search for it on Google/DuckDuckGo. -

this is a very Stupid idea so i wont put it to the dssue tracker. but. how about enabling people to host their own devRant servers with their very own rules? this way, the main server will have a bit more breathing room and common interests could have a shared server.
the client Would have the current buttons + empty buttons that can be given a special function from server side.
also, it would be possible to view rants from multiple servers (color coded so theres no mixup in button functions) in one feed.
the client would come with the main server on first start up. the most popular servers would be listed in the settings. also, rants with 50++ would automatically be put into the main server.6 -
We have hand sanitizers that are usually empty and spray way too much leaving your hands drenched in liquid
Also, one side has gates which means you have to touch your security card to get in and on the other side there are the elevators so you have to touch the buttons outside and inside to get away, or do it with your elbow
Point is, could be better :p -

4)Thank me later.2 -

Why do people get an idea that Ctrl+Alt+[character] is a good combination for keyboard shortcuts? Just because your keyboard layout doesn't have a special character for Ctrl+Alt+Z, it doesn't mean other people don't! Did you ever stop to think that more than half buttons on your keyboard already have a Ctrl+Alt (~AltGr) binding, so maybe, just fucking maybe, other keyboard layouts could have that kind of bindings for other buttons as well? You've got 38 published works, you boast your years of experience, yet you can't fucking consider some basic real-world problems when working on a piece of software!
God I fucking hate people like these, with their PhDs and no actual hands-on experience, they're always so smug about their work and expect you to pay them millions, but fail to understand that details like those are why people pick you instead of some cheap student, and that's where their salary comes from.7 -
Tester has found an issue: controller input stops working when performing certain steps.
Creates a report and provides an attachment.
The attachment depicts some menu where, at first, the cursor moves around various options, then simply stops moving.
The problem:
Since this is a simple in-game recording, there is neither an overlay of the controller w/ a visual representation of the input actually being provided but not working, nor there is a camera recording available where I can see the tester pressing buttons on a controller.
For all I know, the tester put down the controller / stopped pressing buttons.
...I've also seen reports of animations not working... w/ fucking screenshots attached.
How the fuck can you see something not being animated in a fucking static picture?4 -

hello brothers (abd sisters) in code..
i'm not a front end dev, but i had to create a front end application sometime ago. since i don't really know how to create things, i used the golden ratio in almost everything, to try to get a "pretty" app ..has anyone tried this before, or is it not a good thing? since buttons have to scale based on windows resolution, and space left, was this a good idea?5 -

So I spent yesterday designing the UI to my app... there were a lot of buttons and options and stuff...
I spent a few hours today implementing the actual logic.... and redesigning the UI based on it.
All the options and buttons disappeared now though... as I apparently didn't really need them after thinking about what I actually wanted the app to do....3 -

TL;DR: Forwards and backwards buttons on mouse broke. Me sad!
grrr, bought a corsair dark core mouse (on sale) to use with my laptop (in school) because I got really sick my other mouse being wired. It has worked really well up until like a month ago where the fucking forwards and backwards buttons magically stopped working and will instead just type the numbers 1 and 2. This also happens only in Linux because iQueue, their driver software, is windows only.
It works fine otherwise, but goooood is it hard to live without the forwards and backwards buttons :<1 -

So today I logged into devrant and noticed that all of the ++ buttons were gone. Apparently the Fanboy's Annoyances filter list (which I enabled recently in AdGuard) includes the "plusone" CSS class, which is the class name Devrant uses for the ++ button. Whoops.
I think I might remove that filter list entirely. There's a lot of other very non-specific stuff it blocks that might break a lot of websites.1 -
Why is the AWS Web UI so fucking terrible?!?
The most important buttons are always hidden somewhere in the Nirvana.. I have to scroll a thousand miles to get to the stuff I need (always below the fold!). Why are there no nice looking electronic buttons??
Like the best looking ones are either custom mechanical keycaps, but MX switches don't come in toggle or two directional variants like for up/down car windows. Or controller buttons are nice like dpads and xyab etc.. buttons.
Otherwise it's just these crappy metal with a ring of led stuff.. wth..7 -

Css positioning is harder to understand than the full OOP concept.
So i wanted to create a very simple page with a single css file. I spent 2 hours to position the buttons in the fixed header and center some things.
I got the whole OOP concept with abstraction, polymorphism and inheritance in an hour and could use it right after without problems.
Holy shtcake i never want to do frontend.8 -

why don't monitors have physical fucking brightness buttons?!

I'm all for enhancing the user experience. To some extent, making the UI get out of the way to focus on getting things done is admirable!
But it's absolutely *NOT* acceptable to absolutely change how established convention works.
For example, clicking a link should not perform a state change. Use a flipping button!
Checkboxes should not act like radio buttons!
(apparently non-interactable) text should not perform actions!2 -
Trying to add money to a prepaid SIM card today. Their website is a mess. Plus and minus buttons were not functioning, so my only option was to add 15 euro. Checked the console, no errors. Tried triggering the buttons jQuery, no luck. Found a data value attached to the submit button set to 15. Changed to 10, clicked submit, and BOOM, it worked! You just got engineered!
After I paid, I was curious, went back and set it to -15, and tried it again. Unfortunately, they know about backend validation. -

https://microsoft.com/store/apps/...
the pet project I thought would take 2 weeks but took waaayy longer -.-
critique it?
Known issues:
tries to get dimensions from the width, works half the time, will make a setup process in the beginning eventually and allow people to change the values.
Background download, lockscreen and wallpaper all use different methods, trying to see which one works better, doesn't use a separate background process by itself hence easier on the system resources.
the "dismiss" is there just so the notifs carry images in phone. Somehow, notifs with just images and no buttons didn't show the images on phone, hence a temporary workaround, will be replaced with actual buttons later :p
Search and sketch don't work the way I want em to, are there but not accessible, will be there eventually.
tips? things I should change? anything?
And not the final logo, took it from a sample package to submit it, will tinker with the logo thing later :p

Flutter may be great. I want to learn it, so i decided to make this small app in Flutter.
About 2 hours later, and I STILL HAVENT POSITIONED THESE FUCKING BUTTONS AS I WANT IT.
I calm down a bit, and decide to not give a shit about the position of those buttons.. Moving on to launch an URL when one of them is clicked.
Found sweet few lines of code i could copy/paste. Ans tadaa, didnt fucking work. Fuck. Googles a bit, turns out i forgot that hot reload is not for major changes, my bad.
I decide i want to add a few extra features, so fuck Flutter for now, im going back to Android Studio.
Reading Flutter is great, writing it with no knowledge of Dart is.. what the fuck did i even think.7 -

Anyone know why a button appears on Firefox and not other browsers?
More details:
I'm currently improving a software made by another developer and can't seem to figure out why these two buttons appear in an input form for Mozilla Firefox and not other browsers. I can't seem to find the code that causes this anywhere in the source code.
The buttons are up and down, and allow users to increment or decrement the value in the form.3 -

So for my software engineering class we have to write a game in Java, and let me tell you, it has been a time.
The worst part so far has been the transition over to using a JLayeredPane, so that we actually have a background and a foreground. I offered to handle it, since I've done a bit with swing before now.
So I put together something that I thought should work, only to find that layered panes and layouts do NOT like to work together. So it was off to google...after sooo many hours of pouring over tutorials and javadocs I finally got the layers to draw...only to find that our Buttons had stopped working!
For some reason, putting the buttons inside a JPanel stopped them from actually informing their ActionListener (since the random test button I just added had actually still worked). So OF COURSE that meant I had to rework the buttons too, since their logic relied on that panel.
All in all, what should have been a relatively simple refactoring of our view was tranformed into almost a week's worth of frantic googling and pain through the magic of Java Swing.4 -
Page lists data for user. Edit button replaces the line with a form for the data line with save and cancel buttons. Both buttons replace the form back with the simple line (oc save button only does so if post was a success).
Client writes they can't go back after clicking on edit - forgets to say, where in the World they want to go back to, when they get their initial page back with updated or unmodified data depending on their button choice. -
At work i have to do all sorts of things from sql, server code etc to jquery react angular, client apps. Basically everything from programming(frontend and backend) to clicking buttons in the gui because the customer is too lazy to do it himself.
Was wonder if any of you are in a similar situation.1 -
so does anyone know about various social media clients that are true bots and not ones that actually register with the service but just emulate a web browser and fill in parts of the rendered dom and press buttons and shit ? i really don't want to have to write one in electron.14

I actually bothered to add buttons to the vscode commandbar today instead of always relying on the terminal window. So neat. Why didn't I do this a year ago?

I discovered you could edit the Visual Basic code in MS Access. I would read the code that was in there and figure out how i could extend it to do what i want. first code i ever wrote was a switch statement to control whether a set of buttons were enabled based on a dropdown value.

I dont get it, why do all those authentication providers want you to use a separate webpage to handle the login, why cant i just have the form and "login with ID provider" buttons on my page.
Why is the user forced to take another step in the flow...
this is UX 101, comon!5 -
Dear @JS96 - please add "Back" click with the mouse buttons to your unnoficial devRant app for Win10, because it's so painful for me to use.3

My poor laptop's keyboard buttons have stopped working out of sudden. Its just 2 yr old hp pavillion's quite recent laptop
Yesterday the ' ` ' button was not working, today the '-' and brightness button have stopped working , and i few minutes ago i checked and around 8 buttons are not working.
This sucks so much. I had to stop coding because i was not able to name variables correctly. 😣7 -
Belts are nice and all, but I've always found them to be particularly unfriendly towards laptops.
Buttons aren't much better, which I try to explain to people, but for some reason I still get strange looks when I go bottomless in the public library.

I finally reached a point in configuring my desktop where there is only one thing left to fix, the window control buttons.
Even though I don't think they look ugly, they make everything look a bit macOS-esque.
Can anyone recommend some or has an idea for a design?
Edit: more full scale versions of the images are in the comments.5 -
Microsoft understands we're pissed about low QA performance on updates. They're gonna bleach the Start menu and add a couple more buttons to the UI. https://theverge.com/2020/7/...9

Welcome to school. In my case the place where you are getting teached design and the teachers don't know what the hell svg is. And teach you that gif animations are the best way to implement buttons on your website. 😂3

Any code i write in Android studio.
That piece of shit would just go take a nap in the middle of my coding . I can no longer get response from mouse or buttons
Its bloody painful. I love it4 -
To put a tiny mechanical switch on the side of my phone that’ll turn of the Do Not Disturb mode. No, not buttons. Standard momentary buttons don’t have a persistent state. I need the state to be persistent even when the phone itself is turned off.
How hard can it be?
Too bad literally every android smartphone since the very first one has that switch, it’s like one of android’s iconic features, and crapple still can’t manage to do this. Clearly they cut on prices, I mean switch is more complicated than a momentary button.10 -

Feature request: could we use the volume buttons for scrolling? 9gag app style? Personally, I love lying down and just using the buttons to scroll down to eternity. I'm willing to code it myself, for Android. @dfox2 -
You know those "door close" buttons in elevators that do nothing, but give impatient people something to do while they wait for the door to close on its own?
Devrant's -- button is the same, isn't it?8 -
My new microphone arrived.
I used to own Razer Seiren, but it died few weeks ago.
Now this cheap 60 dollar mic bundle's sound quality is on par with that Razer Seiren.
It just lacks all the functional buttons and knobs, and of course, a switch for illuminating logo.
Does anyone stream or run a YouTube channel here?
If so, what kind of content?
PS: Please, no links.2 -
Fu google, y u removed zoom buttons from google maps? It's so annoying when I have to use my whole hand just to operate your fckin maps...5

I know when I first got into libGDX (game engine/framework/? written in Java) and tried to bodge together UI stuff like buttons myself. I was really happy when I got buttons pretty much working as intended.
Later that day I found out that Stage exists and all my (bad) work was useless. 🙃1 -
Rant at samsung tablet design. Those fucking touch buttons are shit. How the fuck am i supposed to hold my tablet comfortably in landscape mode when every 5 fucking seconds i accidentally press the buttons? This design has no place on any device larger than 6". From now on its physical buttons or on screen only. They dont even provide a simple non-hacky root method to turn them the fuck off and replace with on screen android buttons.
I really enjoy having a tablet and i find them incredibly useful. My only problem im having is that i seem to ALWAYS press something by accident. If its not my hand touching the samsung buttons its my headphone cable gently brushing against the screen.
I need to write an app that will lock out all input to my device until i do a certain gesture on the screen, something that cant easily be mistaken like a 4 finger infinity 😂😂1 -
That time I got frisky with VBA and spent a whole night coding to have it compile sets of data into charts, without having any experience in VBA coding. Also added buttons.

Ok, so i got an epic requirement from business.
Business wants to implement something like this. On a save click this popup should be opened with further 2 options "Save" and "Save As" having radio button in front of each button to enable and disable the buttons and input boxes and obviously error/success message should be
displayed according to the option selected.
Team denied to work on the requirement.5 -
How I estimate work: Deep dive into the existing code, consider refactors and related modifications that may need to be done, look for alternatives, assess the scope, and then add 20% to whatever amount of time I come up with.
How every company I've ever worked for estimates work: "It's just adding a button. My nephew builds websites and he says buttons are easy. We need it in production by tomorrow."1 -

Found a bug: UI doesn't rescale properly on Android when hiding and unhiding virtual buttons7 -
Any upto date and maintained swift library (pod) that enables easy integration with fontawesome or material icons ?

Having only recently upgraded my mouse to something with more buttons I realise I've been seriously missing out. A button to copy text, a button to paste and a button to take a screenshot has just saved me precious time.1

Does anyone know how to implement such kind of website or app? It's regarding realestate plot availability. It is fully interactive. And also please suggest how to make a generic software for uploading such multiple maps and plotting buttons on them.

Sveltekit's progressive enhancement on forms is an obstacle more than a tool.
Submit buttons stop working when they want.
Other buttons in the forms may trigger an action via POST if their type is not defined.
Everything with no feedback whatsoever. At least tell me I'm an idiot in the form or let me know why a button type="submit" does nothing to send the form data 🤦1 -
Why are all the damn buttons red?
Oh, it's been at least 2 hours since my last rant? Glad you guys know how ranting works. I don't pause for 2 hours to take a breather and rethink. No, I prefer a quick fire Lewis-Black-style spew.1 -
Why on earth would you create an entire new HTMLImageElement in the javascript file just to get the width and height of an image and never render it to the DOM. FFS use MS Paint, 3D Paint or ANY OTHER IMAGE EDITING SOFTWARE to get the size.
Seriously you over engineered the shit out of the easiest const you'll ever write in JavaScript.
And for the record, the width and height of the image used are only used in formulas which produce the actual width and height of the mock buttons that get drawn onto the canvas element. And don't worry, the click event handler for these mock buttons is actually the click event handler for the canvas...which checks the coordinates of where the click was made on the canvas. And if the click is over where the button is drawn in, congrats you clicked the button. -
Anyone else thinks the desktop site looks better with DarkReader on ? (except for buttons turning pink, but that is a DarkReader problem all together)

I have never been able to find the perfect rollerball mouse. My Kensington is almost perfect but the click buttons don't work 100% of the time. Suggestions?1

How do I create a collab post? The only buttons visible to me is the giant + for creating regular rants that would end up on the feed. But the special collab page, along with the template all collabs are written with imply there should be a separate creation button for it, somewhere. Is it the wk247 thing?4
