Me: Alright, let's code!
School: Psst. Hey.
Me: What?
School: Remember that assignment from last week?
Me: Oh god please no.
School: Yeah, it's tomorrow. And you have a Geography exam next Monday. You love geography, right?
Me: Please, no, I want to become a programmer, not a--
School: Shush... It's okay. Programming can wait. You want a to get a job, right? What would they say when they see your poor Geography?
Me: That doesn't even... Okay, fine, I'll do it...
* two days later *
Me: Fuck me! Finally! Let's do some coding now.
School: Psst. Hey.16 -
I'm almost 29 and only have finished high school. I never new what I wanted to do until 7 years ago. Software engineering and development.
It took me a little while an some effort to find a employer who sees my potentials and is willing to invest in me.
Two weeks ago I decided to finally go back to school again (self study). Last week my boss told me he is proud and willing to share the costs.
Today my books arrived.
I am so excited and nervous!! November 5th (also my birthday) will be the first day of school.22 -
Google searching should be a school subject. There is so much people that dont know how to use it13

When you are a coder and still go to school...
FAQ:
1. Can you hack?
2. Did you already hack the NSA?
3. Did you ever enter the darknet?19 -
7 years of "learning" "IT" at school...
What have I learned: Excel, Word, PowerPoint....

My last school used my SSN as the default account password.
Just to test, I used the “forgot password” functionality, and they sent me my SSN over clear text.
As a developer, I see that as 2 mortal sins 😡12 -
So my brother had a school project for which he got an 9. I looked at this code and saw this comment. I laughed so hard. 😂23

After working as a developer for 4-5 years I finally took up school again.
The teacher at our first programming course insisted that we named all our variables in our locale language (swedish) and always started arrays at index 1.18 -
A friend of mine is creating a website for our school project and the website is getting to look worse and worse.
Here is a picture he sent me today.22 -
Working at a school for a couple weeks and I've never been so scared to touch anything in my life...13

My fellow students as high school freshmen: You can code right?
Me: Yup
Them: So can you like hack the school and better my grades(they are all honor students btw)
Me: *Sure, want me to hack paypal and get you some cash too?*
Them: Jeez just asked for a tiny favor.10 -
School sent out a mass email asking students to stop using VPNs to get around sites being blocked. They say their technology team is working on improving filters and shit. Let's be real that isn't going to stop ANYONE lmfao...3

At school in computer class,
Me: (to friend who gets excited from "hacking") Hey look im gonna hack!
Friend: *Turns to watch*
Me: *Does "color a" and "tree"*
Friend: Wow.
Me: *Writes a quick Matrix.bat and opens it*
Friend: Woah guys look he is hacking!!
Me: *Sits there awkwardly*5 -
School online class system keeps track of every students' username and password. They are all accessible by typing passwords.txt after the address1

When you realize that you are in the third school year and still the half of the class prefers eclipse over intelliJ and think that git is useless.18

All these people talking about learning to code at school makes me feel old. There wasn't even an option to learn programming when I was at school. Had to teach myself!4
-
I'm in grade 9.
I started a programming club in my school.
I told them that I'd teach basic HTML,JS,CSS,C++,C,Java.
Nobody signed up.
Because it happens on Thursdays.
FML.
However, people told other people that I have wicked programming skills and so one of the school staff asked me to help them maintain their school website, which is currently just Google Sites (*vomit).
:(12 -
As a high-school student who has learned to program, i can't understand why programming isn't standard curriculim. It makes it so much more fun to learn math and physics. I also think even basic understanding of it improves how we use technology
Remember to teach your youth to program!1 -
This is the greatest day ever! We are the best at math in our school, so they upgraded our classroom! Now we have a giant Windows 10 touchscreen monitor and 30 laptops...7
-
I programmed a random credit card generator at school and saved it to my :F drive which is the private drive for students to save stuff to. That night I tried accessing my account and it had notified me that it had been locked. I went into school the next day and was called into the office, the principal and Tech Administrator were there waiting for me and asked what the file was. The Tech Administrator tried to describe to me what he found
"This gen.html file seems to be malicious and puts our school at risk. It seems to be some sort of malware and stuff like that is prohibited at school."
Now me sitting in the chair listening to this, laughing in my head just said "okay" and nodded my head because he is the type of person to argue forever. They came to the conclusion to unlock my account by the end of the semester.
Just goes to show that it doesn't take much to get a Tech Admin position at a school.15 -
God damn it. Today i took my laptop to school and you cant guess how many people though i’m a hacker. It’s quite annoying. But just because you use linux doesnt mean you are a hacker! You uneducated pieces of dumbass!!!!10
-
Today at school:
We had a chemistry lesson. Somehow we came to talk about Linux...
So first our teacher said that Linux is shit.
Then another student said, Linux would be like Windows.
Teacher searched for "linux ist scheiße" (which means "linux is shit") on YouTube and let us watch a video.
He also said the whole Internet says Linux is shit and that it would never be more important then Windows.
Kill me pls😢13 -

Our school like:
School: hey everyone! Today we are learning java.
We: But we can Java and we already read the whole book
School: So ok! Let's do Java for 4 months!
We: What the... c'mon that makes no sense!
School: ...
We: ...
*After 4 months*
School: So class lets write a exam in java!
We: oh boy! this is nice!
School: Open your VM!
*Everyone started theyr VM and opened Eclipse*
School: Aaaaand now open NetBeans!
We: Holy Moly Crap! Really? why?
School: because...because...because...fuck off! we dont know...but it stands on the fucking exam so shut the fuck up u little crap!11 -
Every student knows the struggle of opening the Downloads folder on a school computer. Gigabytes of information that will never be accessed again and at least ten versions of the same document.4
-
My school fucking blocked duckduckgo today.
I'm not surprised, I knew this would happen eventually because this school is a prison and the administrators feel that they have to know your every fucking move.
Honestly I thought it was pretty funny too because I don't know anybody else at school using ddg, which means they probably just saw this one kid getting around being tracked and said "that damn kid." (Imagine I'm waving my finger around condescendingly like an old woman.)
It also could just be that they saw me using an unfamiliar url more than normal and assumed it was malicious or some kind of distraction. But I'm willing to bet money they just didn't like that they couldn't track me.22 -

So I've been working since the summer on an app that uses NLP to record audio (I was thinking of using it for school classes), transcribe it and summarize it automatically
I've been using it at school and it WORKS
IT WORKS
I've actually put an app that I made to make my homework and sum classes up and IT WORKS8 -
That moment when you learn Java in school and your teacher tells you that Strings are unimportant.

Me at school: Erh I make programs and I guess it is sort of a hobby
The other kids: SO YOU CAN HACK PEOPLES COMPUTERS AND PHONES??? :0
Me: Not exactly, I actually program websites and some games...
The other kids: WOAH CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE ME A CUSTOM GTA???

That's how computers look in our school (with main focus on science)...
"Windows XP"
"No internet"9 -
When your school doesn't give you the root password of your openSUSE laptop but an encrypted file with all the passwords of the school even the director's one just to stimulate you3

When you're at school following a Java course and someone says: "So now we can add Java to our websites to make them more interactive".
Me: " *sigh* You mean Javascript not Ja... oh well nevermind. I would love to see you implement Java."7 -
Forgot my password at school, say so, they tell me the password. Have they never heard about security?9
-
So this is how they "teach" us in school...As a part time dev I was completely shocked when I saw this in our materials. What do you think? Should I drop the teachers tables to give him a lesson?14
-
Back when I was in school, there was me, these 2-3 other guys, we maintained the school's sites + graphics and what not. If there was a problem, we could solve it. The school hosted big events and the site had over 50k hits in 2 days.
We used PHP then (was a new thing then for us)
Was looking at the schools site now out of nostalgia,
THE SHIT DOESNT EVEN SCALE WELL.
Graphics look like they were made using MS Paint.
Has a prominent 'designed by so n so' who is a student there.
Was checking the source code,
has
<meta name="generator" content="Zyro - Website Builder" />
FUCKER DIDNT EVEN CODE IT HIMSELF.
I wanna go back to my school and spank those bastards there.
This LITERALLY hurts.5 -
Project for school: The answer in most cases is no. I feel glad I could make a documentary on this topic.25
-
I think I want to fucking cry...
Continuing on my previous rants, for the final exam I may or may not have to use Dev-C++ as IDE. Took a look at cplusplus.com, at an article from *2011*:
"Dev-C++ hasn't been updated since 2005."
I fucking swear, someone needs to nuke that school...10 -
Lately in school...
A teacher of mine tried to put an HDMI Cable into an USB-A Port. How can you screw up something like this? It's as simple as a geometric puzzle like the one in the picture. Apology for my grammar mistakes.7 -
You know what really, really sucks about my school? Rant#00
I'm in my last year now and they removed one CS/IT lesson. Now I have two fucking 45min lessons (instead of three) of learning what I'm actually interested in.
Even worse: They don't provide and LK ("Leistungskurs" == advanced course) for CS/IT. Not like for Maths, English, German - okay but LATIN AND SPORT? Wtf
And this school calls themselves a MINT-school (Maths, IT, Natural Sciences, Technology).
EVEN WORSE: The 12th graders now don't even have a basic course CS/IT.
Fuck you school.9 -
>first day at programming school
>we have to bring our own laptops
>teacher asks who is using windows
>every one raised their hands, except me...
>fuckme.jpeg
>teacher says: sorry, but we don’t support mac/linux
>twitchy_eye.tar.gz
>my inner voice: then why the fuck do we have to bring our own laptops, if you don’t support all fucking systems...
>teacher: so, do you guys ever heard of Visual Basic?
My point is, that a PROGRAMMING school should support all platforms if they consists that we have to bring our own machines to class.8 -
I've just realized that It is not worth trading my health for better grades at school, from now on I'll focus more on coding and on sleeping as well.3
-
So the school I visit blocks TeamViewer in their network for the reason that you could bring in malicious stuff.
They happily allow USB sticks though so that doesn't seem right.
Whatever, I used AnyDesk to get stuff from my PC at home (and I never got caught, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to ever use a school's computer again).1 -
Tldr; make sure what you study is relevant to the field and you enjoy it otherwise don't waste your time.
BTW: devrant is awesome it gets me through the day.
So I am almost 3/4ths through a master's in cs and I am contemplating why I went to school in the first place/dropping out.
My program is basically an extension of the bs I got from the same school meaning we learn very general cs topics. There is only one ai class for example.
I had a junior developer position before I even got my bs so now that I am this far along and looking at job openings I'm wondering what why and how my school is able to get away with teaching us this shit.
After all my schooling I learnt more on my own and through Google. I have little to show for my school work other than a degree that says I did a bunch of busy work. And the specific things that I did learn I will never ever remember. Seriously. Who here knows what a MIB and OID are and have actually used them?
I wish I tried harder to get into a school like Berkeley but just looking at their applications is depressing. I always had issues with school and they expect my to have the grades, extra curriculars and other shit. I'll build you a robot or make you a website but I'm not doing that nonsense.
And then there's Google and apple and all these big tech companies expecting me to have written full Enterprise software and know every single algorithm and programming language because everyone uses something different. Sure I wish I had experience in all 50 languages that are popular right now but I don't. And I'm not gonna learn it from school that's for damn sure.
Who here actually went to a good school and can say it helped them in the real world? How many employers actually care about school over actual experience?
Who knows how to burn a school down and get away with it? Or at least make teachers with Phds stop reading off slides all lecture. I know how to fucking read for fucks sake. Not too mention they use shitty software made in 2003 that's no longer supported. And I could go on about the teacher last quarter who graded the midterm on final day while he flirted with the 3 girls in class. And I could go on and on and on but I feel like I need to start being productive so I don't waste away.
Just so done.7 -
As a CS student, where should I invest my time between these options ?
- Get a higher GPA
- Invest in personal project
- Contribute to open source project
- Have a part-time internship during school
- Take time for myself
I would like to have opinions based on your personal experiences !28 -
When your school is called technical but nothing is working properly.. And we need to do our final exam on those computers 😐7
-
Why must it be that school interferes with coding and coding interferes with school? I learn so much more outside school with computers these days, and it's so much more interesting!3
-
We had a kind of "computer club" back in a year. (AG in germany). The teacher left us (4 nerdy geeks) alone for a few minutes because he had to check on something.
He was still logged in with his IT-teacher account.
After a minute of reseach and a few little commands, we had our own school network admin account.
They still haven't removed (probably not even discovered) the account.
Sadly, the localgroup admin didn't have the highest rights..1 -
I was debugging my UDP server and client for 3 hours until I realized our school network has a firewall which blocks my connections.6
-
Today in IT class our teacher said: 'you can only use char and int in a switch statement'
I was confused because I was 100% sure that you could also use string and so when I got out of school I immediately looked it up.
It is true, well it was true until 2011 when Java 7 was released which added the possibility to also use the string data type in switch statements.
In this I see a huge problem with the education system. Teachers (almost) never 'update' their knowledge and then teach outdated stuff to their pupils. While this may not be a problem in some subjects, it definitely is a huge problem in IT.
The development world is always evolving but if the teachers don't follow along the pupils get taught outdated stuff which, in my opinion, is a really big problem when they finish school and go out in the world to find jobs.9 -
School taught me how to read,
Python taught me how to think,
JavaScript taught me how to work,
Go taught me how to act.10 -
school is TERRIBLY designed.
why the FUCK are our grades dependent on EFFORT and NOT KNOWLEDGE.
im sick and tired of kids who scribble on homework and fail tests but still get a's, while i ace tests but dont do any homework.
how long ago was it that school was about LEARNING. to gain knowledge. kids who dont SHOULD NOT GET GOOD GRADES.
fuck you🖕16 -
My junior high school computer programming (Visual Basic) teacher.
She was the spoiled brat of our head teacher. Had just graduated and gotten her bachelor degree. Didn't know jack shit about programming or teaching. Would constantly mock and belittle us for not being able to answer the questions and didn't actually teach us anything.4 -
My computer science class in school is learning c# so slowly that last year it took 3 weeks for them to learn what an integer is.
I learned most of the language on a vacation last year and now I don't show up for class.
and actually, my teacher doesn't mind it, she encourages me about learning more and doing projects.
best teacher I've had so far.
recently the class teacher noticed me when I go home instead of going to class and he made me come to every lesson. Really frustrating.10 -
Doing Arduino in school, well normally i code in java/php.
But its better than the stuff, we usually do here😊4 -
when you really want to code but you have a lot of school work and your course major has nothing to do with computer science or programming. ((4

School interferes with programming, programming interferes with school... when will this vicious cycle end?5

When I was dealing with depression he allowed me to code whatever and get to school when ever (and still got the required hours)
Best teacher / mustache from my dev education -
I was finishing a program in school, didnt realize that during coding lights went off, next time I know, i was locked inside if school.7

I got VB script blocked from all the computes in high school
I had a laptop to do my work in class on (my handwriting is terrible, dyslexia and other things) and I was playing around with VB script making a little text adventure game with dialog boxes because I was bored, it got quite long and I was happy with it but then one day when I tried to open the file it said the network administrator had blocked this type of file from being opened... Spoilsports -
Dude this ous the English I'm taught in my last year of school. I spend my time on the phone and I'm still the best in class xD5
-
I’m skipping class to go do homework at my partner’s university. Their campus is so much prettier than mine, mines depressing and grey. Normally I really enjoy being in school, but it’s times like this I just feel sad and run down, I just wanna be working already...1

At school...
Antivirus protects you from all the bad things on the internet. If you download an antivirus, your computer is safe. I recommend one like McAfee or FreeAntivirus. Also, there aren't virus for Mac.
(Then they ask how things like The Podesta Emails happen)4 -
# school suck
! coding
hello, hope im not bothering anyone with my adolescent problems, but im really angry towards school.
first of all,
the subjects get thaught much too slow.
like dafuq, why does our maths teacher need 6h to teach us what square roots are? Why does our history teacher need 10h to teach us about one single revolution???
and worst of all: why is everything accompagnied by long, repetitive, homework?
Also, why do they think that im bad just because i dont have the best grades??? im a GOOD average, without learning a TAD!!!
also, here i am, needing to learn maths for some it project.
when i ask any teacher, he doesnt explain it to me but says "you will learn that in class xy"
ok, then i guess i can teach it myself.
but when i take books into school to read em (remember, i already know the subjects), the teachers always take em from me.
also, im not allowed to talk to anyone. not even when idle.
so currently, i am trying not to get angry from this, tomorrow school starts again. after this year legally, i would be allowed to drop out.
could you please tell me what you would do? should i drop out? change school? change class? im open to reolly anything that possibly could help (my parents arent)35 -
Finally, I finally managed to grade this year using my own project. We're going to make a personal project that will give us enough to reach the next year. It's so much better than doing those shitty school-forced projects...1
-
One of my teachers in school always put red lines on whatever I wrote ....now in college Android studio reminds me a lot about her...
-
My school blocks all UDP traffic going outside their network. 1 - 65535. Which in turn means that I had to switch to TCP for my VPN to connect. Now my VPN is slow as shit. -.-8
-
Just finished my 1 year intership! Now 3 months school till the final exam.
// sidenote: got a job offer from my practical trainer 😀1 -
Going on a school camp where all the students in the school go.
2 nights and 3 days, planning to bring my laptop and my phone to make games there. (poor 15yo)
Any ideas not to be seen to the teachers? My loyal friends wont tell it because i promised to bring some old android devices for them to play games.10 -
I am learning the job "Developer". I have to go to a school, where my classmades think, developing a application is easy AS playing computer games. I call the guys stupid. Is that right?7
-
So I finally got around to rewriting the Java course that my school has. It took me 6 lessons to get "Hello, World!" into the course. Well it looks like its going to be a long course.
-
So one day I sat in our break hall at school plonking away in my ssh terminal when suddenly someone walks behind me and screams HACKEERRR! When he sees that i start turning around he started sprinting away from me and for 2 weeks he would be extremely scared of me. Thant was probably the weirdest day in my life.1
-
Today we wrote in school a Social Science test. And i really wrote users, against to write Citizens...
How my teacher looked at me after he collected the tests was unforgettable -
Dear my school app developer,
.
I'd like to say FUCK YOU! update your app before asking money from me.1 -
Well I feel like an idiot thanks to my IT teacher. This guy, this fucking guy thinks that we’re seeing computer for the first time. He’s literally saying “You see this black bar on the bottom? That’s taskbar.”. It’s like he’s teaching 7 years old childs 😤
But the worst part is my class mated don’t know such basics! They don’t know how binary code works, what is motherboard, how to login to school domain on Windows.
But on the flip side, they look at me like at the God 😏7 -
Things that make me mad in school: when "ap computer science" is a class that literally just teaches you Java syntax and nothing about any theory and algorithms. Like c'mon3
-
to;dr: school, raspi, spoofing, public status screen, funny pictured.
So. At school we had these huge ass 2/3 TVs displaying some information such as which teacher is ill, which lessons won't take place and some school related news. Standard stuff.
They worked using a raspberry pi attached to the TV fetching a website over http every now and then.
Using nmap I discovered that these pi's were in the same network as the pupils devices: Sweeeet.
After trying some standard passwords at the ssh port and not succeeding I came up with something different: A spoofing attack.
I would relay all traffic from those pi's through my device, would replace all images with a trollface picture (I know I know) and flip all text upside down.
Chaos, annoyed faces and laughter.
It was beautiful. -
Back when I was younger, I used to do concreting. And our boss was an old school type of prick.
Pissed off one guy so much that the guy literally hurled a shovel at him lol. Then quit. -
So once in school, I went to my CS lab to find my friend cursing under his breath. On asking him, he tells me that he can't figure out how to print his code in BlueJ(our school requires us to use BlueJ). So I told him to download another IDE and use that instead. He had a look of bewilderment in his eyes and asked me what an IDE is. He was absolutely shocked to learn that you could write Java programs elsewhere.
P.S This was our fourth year of Java4 -
Our school had for an open source way of dealing with home schooling and managing the school network and so on.
Now the government forced a "proprietary" system on our school and everyone hates it. The teachers didn't want it the pupils didn't want it but who cares "what we do is the best".
Btw the proprietary system costs a fuck load of money even though they just mixed many open source projects and made it their own proprietary thing.
And this company now get's loads of money for their shitty system that never really worked once since we got it.
They blocked so many ip's that we can't even access google and it's services on the school wifi and the bandwith dropped severely with the new system.
Oh and many random ip's e.g. one of my vps is accessible but the other one not.
Discord is blocked.
Web whatsapp.
And so on...
Now....
I need to learn for tests next week and need to access that stuff on the portal but...
Now they decided to switch the LDAP server to the new system and since a few hours i can't access this fucking thing.
It seems like the platform now contacts the new server which isn't even up and running....
Never change a fucking running system....
Oh and we got smart boards and it runs on android and they didn't block adb. Now i installed clash of clans on one of those things. Haha whoops.
These boards cost 7000€ and have security patches from 2 years ago....and Android 87 -
What a day. Teacher told if I can fix few school PCs. Well, quarantined few hundreds of malware and installed Gnu/Linux on one PC just for testing. Only thing left to do is make AutoCAD somehow work and I hope the school can switch from Windows XP to GNU/Linux.3
-
Spent 1 month creating a piece of software for a school project and when I speak of it to someone on the IT business they tell me:
"Really? Once you start working you'll be using software that'll allow you to do something twice as hard in about 2 hours"5 -
First programming-course at the new school.
I was pretty excited until it hit me.
This is an intro-course.
We need to use CPP, not C.
We need to use Windows.
We need to use a shitty IDE instead of editor and compiler.
Went from super excited, to fuck this shit, pretty fast21 -
!rant
I met a student at my school who is in a grade a couple years lower than me and was interested in learning about Perlin Noise for a game he’s making. Yesterday I spent a couple hours working on reminding myself how the algorithm worked and teaching him how it worked. Best few hours at school I’ve had in a while!3 -
Writing some software for a school while sitting in their support-department.
A teacher comes in and asks if we can find the email adress or facebook of a woman he met on vacation because he wants to send her something.
Someone asks: 'what do you want to send her?'
A two second long silence followed...
Everyone starts laughing.
Teachers... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯1 -
I seriously feel like I'm learning more hands on stuff here than at school
So many precious advices and tips
I love this community4 -
Goddamit now that school's started I don't have time to code any more. Why can't I just not do school and code all day gahhhhhhhhhhh5
-
Next year we start web developing in school. Everybody seems to despise it, but since I do not have much experience: Is it really that terrible developing for the www?15
-
I was practising Java at my school(they were still teaching POWERPOINT,f**k)
They got themselves 20 shiny All-in-one garbage with Windows 10.
I got my bootable usb Linux with me,and fired up Kali.By mistake my program ran into infinite loop....
And the rest is history, got banned from the lab😭
P.s.I don't have anything to code on ,i write my programs on paper and executed them on the pc at my school, what to do now9 -
I'm thinking of making a project that will help me during the upcoming school year. Pretty much an assistant that can fetch quick answers from google and a few other basic tasks. What projects have you guys done with your work? P.S. I might want one or two people to also contribute so comment down below if you'd like to help (won't be open source)6
-
Why is school such a bullfuck, we've learned SQL basics and I've used SQL a little so I thought I won't have a problem. WELL FUCKING HELL WAS I WRONG. Joining 4 tables together with inner join WTF who the fuck uses that, why the fuck do I need to know this, WHY THE FUCK IN A TEST WHEN WE HAVEN'T LEARNED SUCH BULLSHIT. Well how about adding a foreign key to a table that doesnt need one. Well ok have fun with a key that does absolutely nothing and on top of all those convoluted tasks the texts are a mess, they give unnecessary information with grammar of a 9 year old and the pictures are not even readable. They are fucking hieroglyphs.
Fuck school.
Gonna do it by myself at the end anyway.
Fuck everything.15 -
So my software engineering school which cannot run their intranets correctly just failed and our emails were used to sign up to a dating site targeted to a most peculiar community. (I won't disclose the nature of the site)4
-
I guess it would have been the school choice back then. Teachers were almost all really bad, going though a powerpoint at mad speed instead of making sure we got it, and the other students were elitists: you don't know how to code / use this framework? Why haven't you commit suicide yet?
This school was a big part of how I lost all confidence in myself, and how hard to build it back. And the major actor of my depression. Yay. -
Last week I had to make a presentation with two others before finishing school, to test our "competence while working with other people".
My old MS Office license expired, so I thought I could make a presentation with HTML.
Me and the two others met so we could discuss what each of us did for the presentation so far.
"Dude why are you opening your browser and not PowerPoint"
"You'll see"
I showed them the presentation and then the file behind it so we could edit the content.
"Dude wtf is this"
They ended up just sitting at their phones and I did all the work, one week later we had to present "our" work to the teachers.
"So, who worked exactly on what?" the teachers asked, and while the two others were struggling to tell them what they did, I gave the teachers a small glimpse at the file.
I ended getting the best grade and saving my graduation, while one of the others has to go to school again. :D3 -
UPDATE ON THE SCHOOL NETWORKING SITUATION:
the entire country has entered total self-isolation for 3 weeks, which means no physical school for 3 weeks. I have to suffer at home for 3 weeks.
Fun.
(save me, please. I am beyond help.)7 -
some students aren't treating their school laptops well at all, today i had a student asking us if he would get a replacement if he "accidentally" gave it a little bath in acid :/5

I found xss on the software the my school and many other schools use it. The bug is on every page of their website.
I reported the bug to their team, they fixed it and didnt even reward me.
What do you ranters advice me to?7 -
I feel like 75% of stories here are about high schools. Maybe it’s because of the younger user base but also I think school security is beyond woeful.
I can’t even tell if my school just botched the setup or if the vendor thought it’d be a sick joke but we had software that the teacher would use to remotely look at everyone doing work but we found that if you press the help button it opens the same window where you see everyone’s desktops and can mess with them (how trivial, I know).4 -
I agreed to create a website for my school that allows students to subscribe to various laboratories and stuff. The IT guy said that I could host it on the school server no problem and I asked if Java would be ok. All cool and easy.
I completed the website and came back to him after a few days to load it on the server. He uploaded the jar executable to /var/www/ and asked me why it wasn't working. I just wanted to leave.
In the end, I hosted it myself.11 -
Along with the usual sheet of our contact data that our school gives us to check if it is still correct, we now also get a nice, thick layer of privacy policy because of the GDPR. Nice!1
-
Just noticed that, at my school, the "sysadmin" forgot to put the password on one of the switches. That means I'm gonna have some fun, nothing that will get me in trouble, I'm just gonna mess up with the config a little bit so that he understands he fucked up.
I'm pretty surprised that none of the students discovered this, but I mean, none likes IT at my school. And guess who likes it but didn't take that "course"? Me.
In Italy, we don't have courses, you decide what you gonna do for the next 5 years, and changing isn't very easy. All and all I'm happy with what I chose, I'll have a better resume than them.6 -
I was reminded today why I love programming, starting out HTML 5, MVC in asp.net
Created my display table, was about to look into searching, sorting etc then found MVC Grid.
Everyday is a school day.2 -
Found this book amongst other 7 grade school books...
Fuck, kids are learning the basis for every technical job this days, in my time even chemistry was only theory... Let alone practical lessons5 -
Well I figured out why my delete button wasn't working...
I'm so burnt out and ready for school and this capstone project to be done.1 -
It’s very annoying that at my school we barely get any coding at all and to top it off it’s in a typing class using block coding. Considering it’s in a TYPING class you’d think they’d’ve used their typing skills to use but no, they instead use block coding meant for like 4th graders. This is why I say we need more coding classes in schools. Not only that but make it more mainstream1

Second big school project. Designed for at least 2 people. Quite a lot of work for the given time but not impossible to do, as I thought. Oh boy was I wrong.
My partner and I chose a networking project which included setting up a ESXi-Server, a VM (with Windows Server 2008 R2) and a router. We are both not unknowledged so I thought this would be easy-going.
I quickly recognised that my partner liked to spend his time at home rather than actually doing something so I ended up doing nearly everything.
When it came to documenting everything he tried to write something, but it had so many mistakes i had to correct it over and over again.
I asked him multiple times, if we should split and he denied every time and promised to work harder.
End of that story was him being expelled from school because of to many missed lessons and me finishing the project alone. Got a B+ for it.1 -
Listening to hardstyle - gives me energy
School (I don't mean this in a positive way) - creates a lot of hate and anger which gives me plenty of energy to code and to change things (mostly privacy and also a bit of freedom related)
I just realized that I could create a whole rant about the issues I have with school2 -
LOL I totally forgot about the school today.
I went to job as usual, opened up Vscodium and started to write some stuff.
Then it hit me 😅 Oh god...
It took my 5 hours to remember but I'm in class right now.3 -
This is a funny one:
So I’m in school and it’s time for midterms. Our assignment is spending 3 months building an application of our choice, what did I choose?
A social media application in Kotlin
(I’ve never used kotlin i just thought it’d be fun to learn)
I get to my first class/build review and everyone else smarter than me chose calculators, timers, dice rollers, and dnd glossaries why am I like this1 -
I know why group work sucked in school. It was a missed opportunity to teach project management and accountability. We’re almost always left to sort it out ourselves.
-
I'm actually excited for this school year, since now I'm taking my programming class. (I'm taking HTML, CSS and JavaScript)7
-
Yestersay one of my friend (who runs a school) told me to make one software for the fee management of students. I said why don't you buy from market number of people's have already selling these kind of softwares. He said yes I have tried but they are costly few of them are selling at 10 k INR (less than 200 $).1
-
Guys, how often do you feel inferior to your colleagues? I'm just thinking since I've just finished first year of uni, and although I got a solid top grade, I can't help but feel that every other person in the year is a much better programmer and it kinda makes me feel like a fraud. Anybody else in university/school feel like that?10

Just found out that all the high school varsity sports kids that got full rides to ivy leagues for sports are all transferring or failing. Meanwhile, I've been accepted into a graduate program for Software Engineering and I'm going into my second internship this summer. I know to most people that's just more work and more school but to me that's winning -
our school says...
This school homepage was developed in 2008 as a builder.
IE7 was the main browser at the time of 2008, but now IE11 is being used as the main browser.
We are currently working on developing a school website builder that is suitable for modern browsers and sequentially converting all schools into new builders by December 2017.
Therefore, please use the Chrome browser to use and operate stable website when accessing the school website.
Oh...
But WHY ISN'T IT WORKING IN CHROME, EITHER???!!!!1 -
Take a look at my schools website. Take in mind this school is known to have the best programming course for the people starting in 10th grade. www.esenviseu.net9

It’s astounding how when a school gives me 100 dollars to make something to teach high schoolers with stem that I immediately build a lightsaber.2

If the corporate work life needs to be taught in school, what do you think the subject would look like?
For example, I think time management and people management should have been there.10 -
The country where I'm from uses only one platform for online school (public schools from 1s class to High School).
I was curious to take a look at the website and they didn't change the create-react-app manifest.json in production.
Bonus tip. The teachers and students cannot login for the last 2 days.2 -
This year I graduated from high school and started a dual curriculum (50% practical work at a company, 50% theory at university) and after four months I can without a doubt say:
I am not enjoying it at all.6 -
Back 2 school tomorrow (and a new one)... Hoping that computer class will be interesting and no shitty stuff6
-
So, since a few months, my school has a new shiny building,
but we are still not using it because the computers are not correctly set up.
Some idiot installed the wrong drivers for the Windows installation
and that's the reason some classes are still located in containers without a computer...3 -
FUCKING FUCK, I have been working on a school project I planned to give up but finally I gave it some more days and I got it working. But the program that should correct me didn't have a fucking include I forgot in my code and I got "The build failed, your project couldn't be tested" so it's 01

There's seriously a girl here following DAE (Game development) with one of them fancy tiny macbooks. Yes the one without escape. I wish her good luck and congratulations on being rich and a retard who ignores school advice on laptops4

Tomorrow i have school starting.
Which inspires me to rant about how school fails. Ill omit the "arguments" - feel free to append arguments for my words in the comments. Lol
Dont get be wrong. I LOVE acquiring knowledge. And this is where my first point starts : PACE. My class is basically an assortiment of dumbfucks who dont understand anything without "learning by heart over the course of several weeks"
Ill give you a concrete example.
Our maths teacher wanted to make us think scientifically. So he invented a new type of numbers "root 6 numbers" that are formed like so:
a + b * sqrt(6)
Now he wants us to find out wether the sum of two root 6 numbers is also a root six number. this is all dandy, BUT CLASSMATES STILL DIDNT GET WHAT ROOT 6 NUMBERS ARE, EVEN AFTER SEVERAL EXPRANATIONS. Worse: they went to the main teacher to blacken the math teacher.
Another example would be the time our class needed to understand functions(x) : 4 weeks. Ik, as a programmer i have some ease, but four weeks is a bit too much.
Because of this slow pace, i am irreversibly bored of and in school.
And this leads to another problem: homework. Since i know most of the stuff (the few things i dont get at school, i research at home) the homework are useless to me and since the others dont get much, the homeworks are often more than abundant {in a negative way}.
So i dont do them - but that makes teachers disregard me. Which im sickened of.
Worse: often i dont get overly good grades (i honestly have no clue why. I know everything and go over most of the stuff with my menthor),which empowers teacher of the argument of "you are not good enuff, so you cant read in class".
It would be JUST FINE if the only problem were teachers - but my peers are horrible too.
I know our brains are growing, but thats no reason for being stupid.
I literally get told that i need to stop wearing shorts because they look horrible.
Yep. Also, most people think they are empowered of teaching me and talking about my defaillance - because they do their homework. Even though they know i know stuff better than them.
Now to one of the worst issues: a group work where we had to de a Radio report. The guy (the one who thinks he is intelligent BECAUSE he has good grades) invited himself and his gf to me, he wanted me to translate 22 pages from german to english (because he was too lazy to write in german), wanted me to do audiorecording, audioediting and writing of a report. When i left the group because i was called "weakest link" he spread the word that i he had done everythinh and that because i left his group had failed (noticed the flow in logic?)
NOW everybody thinks of me as stupid weirdo. And honestly - i think i will stop listening to them. Ive always hated people, i dont need a significant other.
Even though this will come with the secondary effect of me being gossiped at.
But honestly its fine.
You might have noticed my elojquent way of expressing myseld. I did that in order to show that i am, despite my grades, overly proficient in english
Ok. So now comes the conclusion. What should i do? Do you Think that i am like that because im pubescent myself? How can i stop having nightmares of every possible social situotion that could occur?
Does this have to do with me being a dev?
Well. ありがとう for reading.18 -
Here is an update of the website a friend of mine is creating for our school project:
I showed him a website I‘ve done in the past and that he could copy but edit the sidebar so it fits better to the existing website he had created. Now it looks like this:
(I think it got better but he has to change the colors and the proportion of the header, the sidebar and the footer.)

Got the genius idea of multiplayer tic tac toe just before spring break. One week later, back in school and I have multiplayer tic tac toe written in Java. The only way that the school can block it is by blocking the port, but then I'll just change it until there are no more lol
give me suggestions on what to make next, this is fun3 -
I can't handle the three projects a week I have in my school, I made like 60 hours of work last week. How do you do guys?!4

Is it normal for a student (17yo, high school) to have nearly no free time? I have to leave for school at 6am and come back nearly everyday at 17 to 18pm. And since I play two instruments I'm in class for them again (+3h per week) and I'm in an orchestra (+6h rehearsal a week). So basically I finally come home at 8pm everyday and I'm so fucked that I can't do shit anymore. The only thing I'm able to do is (and in mood for) is practicing music and programming a little (personal projects and stuff). In theory I'd have free time on weekends then but I'm too tired to do shit on weekend. I stand up at 4pm and go to bed 5h later.
How was your time in school? How much free time did you guys have (or are still having)? Music is kinda free time imo but I'd like to meet schoolfriends outside of schooltime again :(16 -
How do you go on getting "the admin password"? (School, CS teacher)
You're ideas are ofc just thought experimental and won't be used in reality......... 😉35 -
Well I was in school for web development I chose to take the elective course intro to web as an easy online class. And almost failed an assignment for using css3 for rounded corners and shadowing all because it did not pass validation because it was not standard yet. Shows how little that teacher knew about the industry...... Face palm

I'm wondering.. Chinese have built all sorts of things we never knew we need in our lives. I'm wondering, is there anywhere a physical smartphone keyboard I could purchase? The old-school numpad, like on nokia 3310 or so.

God damnit, I'm 20 and already got a burn out due to work (fast food job) and school.
I go to school 5 days a week 8 hours a day and I work every weekend 8 hours a day only so I can afford my study better and to be able to afford my internship to Japan next year.
The worst thing is I'm in a endless loop because if I stop with school I need to work full time to pay off my school loan and if I stop my work I can't pay for part of my school and my internship.
If anyone has any tips for me what to do before this ends badly I will gladly hear them2 -
Gahhhh!!!! I just finished a project that let every kid in my school have a perfect class scheduler, gradebook, etc., in java. Now I have no idea what to do. I want to do something in java because I want to have a very strong base in the language. Do you guys have any ideas?4

Finally done with school. It were three years of ups and downs.
The downs were plenty and mostly in the way school material was organized.
We've spend years learning web development where the course should have been more broad (application development)
So by the time my first internship period of half a year approached I searched for a company outside of web development and ended up at a company which did serious games using unity C#. Those were the best months of my 3 years. I managed to push the company into a direction for a future even though it was reletively small.
After that I took up .net and got the MTA C# Fundamentals certificate from microsoft itself. (School offered the exam).
Then there was the 2nd internship.
Worked for a company who sold intranets to other enterprises and I developed a mobile app which connected a user's phone to their account on their intranet. Allowing to seperate work and their private life.
That project was fun but the company itself was terrible. 4 people at the office and the owner treated us as objects rather than people. The company was too small for such an environment and most of them were irritated 9 times out of 10. Glad to be rid of them.
Now I'm in the process of looking for a job and have a meeting with a recruiter tomorrow
Wish me luck.4 -

Need some advice. I'm 19, working on my own fintech startup. Should I apply to Ycombinator or finish high school first? The prototype is basically ready, but the Winter 2018 YC is taking place while I have school. What should I do?8

I'm in school, next lession is gonna be programming exercise with c#, soooo gonna log into my linux home server and do some stuff Xd8

My school is awesome, their network infrastructure is so secure (not),
that you can easily control other people's desktops with Windows' basic tools. -
School stuff. Teachers have loads of pdfs and they're just giving them to us on Google Classrooms to do in our books. Maybe a tool to transform those into proper forms + marking.
Also, a revision app that scans your notes and tests you (TTS and STT).
Also, my blog and DevRant2 -
Working with the first version of RantComics in C# as the school session leans towards me... 4 days til new semester.

I'm gonna enter in school, looks like there's nobody who ever developed something. And I'm feeling like an alligator ready to kill everybody right now.

I just relised that my primary school had more "cs" lessons then high school
it was just one lesson with python turtle
The most high school has is photoshop and dreamweaver5 -
TL;DR: Phone akku is draining, I steal our schools power. And secret plans to become rich.
My phone accumulator (heh, not a battery) DRAINS these days. It's fucking old and the temperatures are so hot that we actually afternoon classes are cancelled 🔥
So anyways, I'm sitting in the library (15 min break) and secretly charging my phone, devRanting on these wrongly configured, distorted monitors of this one computer that is connected with like 20 work stations xD
I'm stealing the schools power but the school owes me time (+2h of more useless sitting at school with my new timetable) - and time is money. And the schools money buys power. So I don't feel bad about it.
Actually a friend and me wanted to develop and install a plugin - when being able to bypass the reset-application in our school network - that uses the schools computers and their power to do crypto mining.
I wouldn't feel bad about it.4 -
So... school is about to begin again...
Honestly I'm both excited and intimidated about it. It's my last year in high school, and I still haven't decided what to do after it. I guess I'll go to an university, and possibly continue with my conservatory... I want to do both things, hoping that the weight won't crush me.
If you're like me, still a student, what do you think you would like to do after high school?6 -

When your coding at the cafeteria at school...
Woah! Are you hacking? Can you hack this game for me? Stop hacking you'll get expelled.
I just sit there and agree with it all ;D -
What were your survial strategies in school to keep other students/teachers from thinking your hacking something?
Mine was this (pretty ugly but worked):8 -
Okay this is my first time posting on this site. I've browsed it (definitely not in class) and the community looks beautiful, so I'm going to just kind of slide in here. Anyways this is the part where I use my caps lock button and type lots of naughty words I guess...
<rant type = 'school'>
Our programming classes are fucking DISMAL uuugh... Okay so we have four technology classes: Tech Exploration, Coding 1, Coding 2, and Intro to CS (a 'high school' level class)... So this means a fuck ton of kids in programming classes, mostly because I WANNA MAKE MINCERAFT AND BE A KEWL BOI LIKE GAME DEV BUT I'M ALSO A FUCKING IDIOT AND WILL NOT LEARN ANYTHING YAAAAAAY but that's a mood and so there's a fucking tidal wave of dumb kids in these classes. So right we're dealing with like 80 kids per class period. Sorry if I'm repeating myself but there are a FUCKTON of students. Now, we have... wait for it... ONE FUCKING TEACHER. ONE. I fucking swear this district does not give a SINGLE SHIT about possibly THE SINGLE FUCKING MOST IMPORTANT SUBJECT WHYYYYYY... Okay so the teacher is kinda overworked as fuck lol. She can't really teach eighty kids at once so she mostly gives us exercises from websites but when she can she teaches us shit herself and actually knows a good bit about her field of study. She's usually pretty grumpy, understandably, but if you ask her a good question that makes her think you can see the passion there lol. So anyways that's a mood. Now at the other school it's even worse. They have this new asshole as a teacher that knows NOTHING about ANYTHING IT IS SO FUCKING REDICULOUS OH MY UUUUUGH... THEY STILL DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A FUCKING LOOP IS LIKE OKAY YOU'VE BEEN TEACHING PROGRAMMING FOR A YEAR AND YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE TEACHING IT AT THAT DISTRICT SO MAYBE YOU SHOULD AT LEAST FUCKING TRY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU... so he just makes them do shit from a website and obviously can't do half of the shit he assigns it's so fucking sad... I swear this district is supposed to be good but maybe not for the ONE THING I WANT IT TO BE GOOD FOR. Funny story: in elementary school once I wrote down school usernames for people I didn't really know and shared them a google doc that said "you have been hacked make a more secure password buddy" etc etc and made them the owner and these dull shits report it to the principal... So I'm in the principles office... Just a fucking dumb elementary school kid lol and the principal is like hAcKiNg Is BaD yOu ShOuLd NoT dO iT and I'm like how did you know it was me... so he goes on to say some bullshit about 'digital footprint' and 'tracing' me to it... he obviously has no clue what he's saying but anyways afterwards he points to where it says last change made by MY SCHOOL ACCOUNT... HOW DULL CAN YOU FUCKING POSSIBLY BE IT WAS FROM MY ACCOUNT THAT LITERALLY PROVED THAT I DID --NOT-- 'HACK' INTO THEIR ACCOUNT YOU DUMB FUCK. Okay so basically my school is a burning pile of garbage but it's better than most apparently but it's GARBAGE MY GOD... Please fucking tell me it gets better...
okay lol that was longer than I thought it would be guess I just needed to vent... later I guess
</rant>12 -
High school students today have the same anxiety levels of as insane asylum mental patients during the 1950's.
No wonder I feel like I'm going insane. -
Basically, going to an IT school and being the only one who actually knew how to program, every group project was a nightmare, now at university I don't have any group projects luckilly

Hi, I got a question to you all but preferably to the german devs. Which education and what kind of studies do you got? I am currently looking what I want to do after school but it's hard to get a overview what actually is necessary.
Thank you very much for your answers.

Wanted to share one of my projects from school.
3 years ago I had to create a Linked List Mesh in Java that held data in each individual node, as well as location data of each of two of it's neighboring nodes.1 -
For my final project of first year at middle school (that's before university), I had to make a experiment and measured it using a circuit connected to the computer. At the end I couldn't finish but I made a program for explain what the circuit (expected) did using one of the Microsoft Office's assistant (Merlin the wizard), Merlin moved around the screen talking about the experiment and what the circuit measured it over and over, almost forgotten to tell I had to show it in a science festival to anybody who came at school, none asked about the experiment or the circuit, all the questions was about how I made the program, how the program could speech in spanish and explain the experiment.
At the begining of that day I was so nervous, but at the end I could say fuck yeah.
And the program was a macro in Basic with text to speech of a Loquendo like voice, I only record the movements and put the text.
That's one of the reason of I like programming, it save it my ass.
That was more than ten years ago, I didn't have a computer only at the school, internet not was so common.4 -
In my school, We started learning computer science (Java and programming stuff, to be more specific) last year in 11th standard (I was 16 at that time), starting to learn programming and stuff like this are common in India at that age (Yes, I live in India). I m the only student in my class or in my school who knows about programming and things related to that, yes of course I know, I made my own game when I was around 12 y.o.
In school our teacher started teaching us everything from the most beginning, It was really boring and exciting at the same time for me, it was exciting because I always wanted to tell my teacher and friends about my game and other programming kinds of stuff I knew, and it was boring bcoz I had to learn those things again which I already knew.
It was obvious that I was getting good marks in the subject without even reading my book for once, and it really amazed my friends, classmates and even my teacher.
Now, since my friends have learned CS for 1 year, some of them thinks its nice and are fascinated by the world of programming and developers, and some of them think it's boring and they just need to pass the subject for good marks and nothing else.
It feels funny and bad at the same time when some of my friends come to me and ask what does a for-loop (any loop) even does... And the rest of them thinks a for-loop is just used for printing tables of numbers.
well, that's the story of my school.
The thing that will never change is that I love programming and I will never stop programming...
Thanks for stopping by Ranters,
Happy programming!4 -
Not sure if this is the right place but Just givin' it a try :)
I always was pretty lazy in school and i will never forget that my teacher tols me that i will never reach anything with my attitude. BTW being lazy in school does Not mean being lazy at all. The whole time my classmates did their homework, i was sitting at my computer programming and developing new stuff.
Now 1,5 years later i succeeded at my A grade (Not good but i got it), have a nice, well-payed and fun job as a developer and received a scholarship worth 16k € on a private university for all my previous knowledge and efforts for the company.
Really want to go back to my teacher and tell him about all that stuff.
Thankful to be a developer 🙌
TL;DR: was bad at school, got blamed by a teacher several times for being lazy, still got the degree, now working as a developer (it's fun and well-payed) and received a scholarship worth 16k€ on a private university5 -
It's the first day of school and they try to make an entertaining segment on TV.
There has been a lot of controversy whether electronic books should replace paper ones.
They ask a mother about her opinion on electronic books:
Her: I myself like the idea of lighter school bags a lot. But yesterday I tried to open one of the books on my perfectly working laptop, and it was all white. I tried to zoom but nothing changed...
People are simply not ready for that much technology in their lifes. Teachers also can't use the technology to its full potential. They have been teaching the same thing the same way for tens of years, they'll always fallback to their old methods1 -
I fucking hate when people that give you marks are not qualified enough.
Actually, in school, it's two weeks where we conceptualize projects (we don't code them, just have concepts) and we're noted on them.
But there's a partial jury, that has partial opinions, the different juries doesn't share the same opinion and are biased.
I don't know, it's like if because they are programming teachers or communication teacher, they were able to know what will work in the future and what won't. Even in domain they don't know. -
I always hated in school computing lessons when the teachers pet students would snitch on you for getting around the school network stuff.
Many people in the lesson would always play games instead of doing what they were meant to. So the teacher turned off the internet in the room using the admin control stuff. Then when I found a way around it all so I could watch some educational YouTube videos, the stupid teachers pet would snitch on me. Luckily the teacher knew I wasn’t using it to mess around, always felt good when he said that I could access it because I’m the biggest security threat to the school.
Did you ever have issues with snitches in computing lessons?6 -
I need to do a presentation, in school, next week, about Linux.
The presentation shouldn't be longer than 10 minutes.
What should I put in there?
I'm by far no newbie in Linux and that's kinda the problem here, since I know way to much, to put it in 10 minutes.15 -

We were supposed to get that signature 3 weeks ago, but they decided to not sign yet because they want to make late changes to the project whenever they want, yet we have to finish the build of this in 7 weeks... Seriously? That's what we have to work with.
Any working devs that recognize this situation at work and not at school?3 -
I just responded positively to a request by my high school coordinator to add an Advanced Placement Computer Science online course option as a choice for all high schoolers.
It's for Java.
Have I commited a crime?
Have I done justice?
Help me, for I don't know anymore.2 -
How do you guys come up with side projects? I'm as creative as a... Something that isn't creative. School starts tomorrow and I need a senior project for my software engineering degree but I'm having trouble thinking of anything.3
-
School bus, why must you alarm me oh so very loudly that I can't stay in my room, sipping coffee and coding, for the entire day...

Question for school:
When (if) you use Java what IDE or text editor do you like to use? Also what do you use for work (if you program in Java)?
Personally I like to use intellij but the school default is NetBeans (prob cause it's free).
Thx everyone13 -
Some colleagues and myself will develop a tool for some school stuff, but we need a product name and we all have no idea how to want to call it.
Any name suggestions are much appreciated🤗🤗7 -
To not get fired. I'm a student at the best high school in my country, so it's really unusual that I work besides school. I want to prove that it's not only possible but beneficial. I already learned a lot, but if I won't get fired, I'll be close to senior level by the time I start working full-time, which will help a lot with university.1

I'm going to be starting a programming club at my High School. Any ideas for projects? We're CS focused4
-
How’s school going?
Well I’m in discrete mathematics and summations honestly suck, but if you put it in a for loop it’s so easy6 -
So I’m currently in my senior year at high-school, striving to get my Technical High-School degree.
My specialization is “System Programming”. I wish we studied something at school related to it ...
Long story short~
I’m going to my finals for this semester : We had to create a traffic light program, coded in C++.
Greatest thing was - WELL WE HAD TO WRITE OUR CODE ON PIECE OF A PAPER 🙂🙃.
So I’m thinking ... Shall I add “I’m so good that I can program piece of a paper “ in my resume ?
#GreatEducation!3 -
I'm excited to be starting Lambda School next week! I plan to keep track of my progress, so look forward to that.2
-
I've just finshed a cours about service-oriented architecture in my uni and a lot of people are "complaining" about SOA becasue it's not used so much these days and it's a waste of time to learn it. What's your take on this? Do you use or have SOA in your company or use it in some way? Any rants about stuff you learned in school that were completely outdated? A friends friend finished uni about two years ago and they had a big course in Flash...2

Last week of the school project, I'm one of the few programmers. All of a sudden the floodgates open and everyone needs help. Where were they when I had all the time in the world?
-
One's attitude towards something really affects your relationship with others.
I hate school so everyone at school thinks I'm this weird, anti-social freak.
I love programming...everyone in my programmer circle of friends and acquaintances sees me as this cheerful and social person. -
!Rant - web dev prompt
Currently experimenting with time management so figured I'd try setting up both Basecamp and Toggl. It's for a school project and involves a basic CMS (php CRUD etc).
Is it overkill?2 -
Some of you might appreciate this, thought I'd share.
I'm currently on the board for a new school, and one of the choices we've made is to require a basic software programming class (most likely python) in middle school or jr high.
As a board, we've decided that it serves a couple great purposes: teach critical thinking and understanding (even a little bit) how software is written, since that's the axis of the world.4 -
The moment you realize yoh actually have to work for school but programming is so much more fun!!!2
-
I just got an offer from my school, I can make my last semester in Taiwan. Is any of you living here. How is the life ?
-
Sometimes, I feel my school is a prison.
I'm sitting there, 8-10 hours per day, learnin' things I already know, and all I can do is sitting quiet to `don't disturb during the lesson`. I can't even use my laptop.
But, school also is nice in some ways, my principal allowed me to run a Hacktoberfest event in my school, make kinda radio in our school and make an app for our SmartTV (yep, we have a TV in school) to show weather, changes in lesson plans etc.
But still, I really feel this is the prison. One more year, and I'll finish this shit and go...to another school because `you need to graduate to do anything in your life`. Btw, do ya know any good ways how to become CTO or COO one day? Just asking. Greetings, I hate my school, have a nice day.10 -
Last week of my fixed term contract, it was my first work experience, and it was related to my studies, it's awesome to have a work which is also a hobby. Now I'm returning to School!
-
MY SCHOOL HHAS FOOD TECHNOLOGY AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES (GP MANDATORY TOO) BUT ONLY ICT AND NO COMPUTER SCIENCE

I am back with one fresh and hot
my school doesnt allow libre office
the most ACTUAL security they have is windows defender and all the rest is restrictions smh7 -
Coding projects are fun, but when you do it for a school project and you have to write a paper for it, it kinda sucks.. :/2
-
I think the thing that sucks about high school (or school in general, really) is that they don't really have many opportunities for the people that like to program or do anything with computers.
The only classes that have to do with computers at all (In my high school) is Intro to Programming (Which is what I'm taking, which has HTML, CSS and JavaScript), some computer science classes and finally the Cyber-patriot team. (Which is for Navy ROTC and it consists of Cyber Security, competitions and actual Linux computers).
The only few of eight classes I find actually interesting is Intro to Programming, NJROTC, and Plant Science. (Because not only the subjects, but the teachers (and Sergeant) actually make it fun, interesting and easy to understand, while the rest don't feel like they're doing a good job.)4 -
What the fuck is this version control thing? We managed to pass one fucking entire semester building an mobile game without knowing anything about version control. How my team finished the game? Fuck, we just place our source code and files into the folder, archive to rar and sent it through gmail. My desktop was a fucking mess, it was bunch of New Folder(x) all over the place. Fucking school didn't even taught or mentioned even once about that shit. In fact our faculties were all master degree holder. Our life could have been easier back then. So in this last school year, we gonna use that shit in our Capstone project.5

Tips for learning 2 languages at once? I'm learning Java in school, and I'd like to learn Kotlin as well. I know they're similar, so my main concern is just mismatching syntax.4
-
4th year of technical school I though I was not gonna continue programming in university. Got a dev job after graduating and started uni. 2 years after I am pretty sure I am going to be a dev.
-
Do you prefer / have quick or calm mornings?
I wake up at 8 am bike 15 min to work at 9 am, do school and personal stuff till 10 am and then start working.
It feels like I just have to take it easy at morning time because I have to also go to school in evenings after work.6 -
It wasn't at the office but when I was in middle/high school I used to swap powerpoint with a shortcut batch file that would loop til the computer freezes or just write a file that straight crashes. I also did the one with the gif of matrix. Fun times and never got caught! XD
-
At my boarding school the admins are too bad : all the 5 min the internet go out for 30s because of overload (when too many computers are downloading) and now when we must work the internet go out so we can't work....
Windows says that the proxy is not responding so it's again a big overload and the internet came back the next day thank of reboot ...
This system is soooo shity.....
And my school want to have a good image of technology....... WOW ! -
Three years in a school for programmers and business education. Primarily Java and some C++. Had to leave and started an apprenticeship in a company.1

I just went back to Old School Runescape and I played it 7pm - 2am last night so I guess that's my new distraction
-
My friends were talking about modding their brawl to give them weird powers, so I signed up to take a programming class in high school. After that, I was hooked.
-
I have a school project that starts in 2 weeks.
Is it normal to ask us to make a report for Monday with the technologies we want to use knowing that we have no information about this project and we still have exams for 1 week ...5 -
Ok I know this is stupid question and not rant, but I just finished school and need to go to the high school and want do build some projects. So I'm pretty good with HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQLI, and in high school I want to learn python. I already know some stuff with python I built programs for 'hacking' but I don't know what programs do I need to learn to build if I want to work somewhere... Sorry if my English is bad.. :)9
-
So my friend has got me into playing Old School RuneScape and honestly it’s really nice and I’m enjoying it, idk if I’ll try the newer version since old school rs is still supported (from what I’ve been told)
I’ve noticed that the game is basically just an economics simulator and I am down for it2 -
6 hours to listen explanations about my school after they teased us with the explanation of what's the "pool" (it's where students work for almost 14h by day on exercises during a month to make everybody have the same level)... I can't wait to start the pool! I don't want to listen anymore!
-
So awhile ago I asked my IT if i could get ubuntu on my (School) Laptop & she said that it can only be changed by the department of education, but seriously WTF It's just Linux && You could get it on all the NSW computers & it wouldn't change a thing!!2
-
I'm so busy with school and work that I can't find time to work on projects 😩 Trying to grind my way into a career but being crushed under the tremendous weight of time restrictions and responsibility
-
Just came from professional school (is it correct? - school during apprenticeship), I have to develop some features for a project - and finish writing the documentation and User Manual .. but.. but.. first I need a coffee - a Big coffee :D
-
Back in school! Happy to say i'm taking classes i genuinely like, which are useful and challenge my brain.
Classes include (but aren't limited to)
SQL (and MS SQL Server, no MySQL sadly)
HTML/CSS/JS
Java2 -
Just applied for my next school, I'm going to study application development. Lets hope for the best and hope that I pass my exams and get accepted.1

I was learning gw basic in school.
Instructor showed us how to draw a circle. I started graphics mode, set red as primary color and gave a loop to the circle, which reduced width at every iteration and turned it into an ellipse.
Woah .... That was the best Opera logo I ever saw -
Tell me of this seems right: We used to operate (before I started) in a the user is always right way, if a user wanted a button to wipe his/her arse they got it.
I don't understand how a software developer can operate in this way (or am I missing something?) the users are all staff at the school3 -
Do you have any good idea for a 2 weeks programming project for school, in a group of 5.
It should be large enough to get a 1 (or A in other countries) but small enough to do it alone, since I'm at risk of having to do it alone and drag 4 dead weights behind me.
Language doesn't matter.6 -

So my programming teacher knows his shit, but is pretty bad at explaining it.
I can already see some of the other students, especially the ones without prior programming-experience, flunking this class.
Today spent most of the class talking about 2-complement and the functions in math.h.
I think we didn't even learn about reusing code with functions, or structs.
I use some of my time, helping the other students getting through this somehow.3 -
We have to make something with a TTTech controller( it's for autonomous driving or for planes) in school.
Does someone have an idea?😂3 -
So last summer I got a job as a software engineer. It went great for a while, and it came time to go back to school. I'm a senior in high school, and the Sterling Scholar for computer technology, plus I'm in charge of my high schools website. It's getting pretty hard to balance this all out, and I've been considering pausing work until school is finished. What do you guys think? 😐1

High school football games are the best. You stand in the student section cheering whenever you get a touchdown. And my school's team sucks so it's even better when we win. Like tonight. I'm writing this right after our team just won 15-14. MAKE SOME NOISE!!!1
-
Ok, so i'm passionnate about programming and wanna turn this passion into my job... I'm currently studying in high school and i have to look at some schools before i pass my exams..
What do you recommand me, wich formations to learn Game Programming or Programming in general after high school ? I'm from France, i'll search about similarities if it's only UK, US...6 -
Got an enigma to resolve in my school during a treasure hunt (not sure if it's the good expression) which was translating binary in lattitude and longitude. That was not really difficult but fun
-
My first day of the "pool" in my school ended. Finally, the first day was learning how to properly use Unix systems. The "Moulinette" has to pass and validate the results, but we can't call it when we want. That's like a debugger that pass at fixed hours...
-
If you like developing apps, then it may be a nice idea to work as a developer. In my case, developing was my hobby while I was in school. And after school, I started working as a dev.
-
I'm using Fedora 25/ pre-release, and It's rock solid except for wifi hotspot and I don't need it.
Now my school gave me a Windows 10 pro key, and I'm hesitant.
Should I install it ?
Will I need it ?5 -
My school:
Oh yeah starting 5th year of CS!
"You have to take this year 1 course"
"WHY?!"
"Because fuck you, that's why!" -

I love my school sometimes... For a semester project, on the specifications, we have to use Github to host the project, the dumbass assistant wants us to use bitbucket and the client hosted the beginning of his project on gitlab... What are we supposed to use then. 😡2
