I once brought my Kali Linux laptop to school. (Because normal had dead battery, waiting for shipping)
MFW someone from the IT department is called in to fix teachers projector and he sees I still have the default dragon wallpaper on it.
MFW when recognises it it's Kali.
MFW he calls the police and my laptop gets taken away because 'its dangerous' and I get questioned in school.
The police came back a week later to check my laptop again. 'uhh we gotta check the logs'.
IF I WANTED IT TO BE DANGEROUS YOU'D BE FIXING A LOT MORE THAN JUST THE FUCKING PROJECTOR!
Also, wuddup devrant!11 -
I'm almost 29 and only have finished high school. I never new what I wanted to do until 7 years ago. Software engineering and development.
It took me a little while an some effort to find a employer who sees my potentials and is willing to invest in me.
Two weeks ago I decided to finally go back to school again (self study). Last week my boss told me he is proud and willing to share the costs.
Today my books arrived.
I am so excited and nervous!! November 5th (also my birthday) will be the first day of school.22 -
My school blocks all social media websites, so i made a small social media site with chat and going to run it localy on my laptop and they cant block it :D44
-
The guard at our school thinks I'm hacking
My parents thinks I'm hacking
My teacher thinks I'm hacking
But all I did was only build Redis from source...

"The school tech asked me for my MAC address on my phone, but I told them I didn't have one because my phone is Android and Macs only have MAC addresses, right?"
-my wife8 -
So I've started my Python adventure and made an app that lets me know what's my next lesson in school. It shows lesson, subject and time.6
-
Saw this quote in a local newspaper. The guy is against buying laptops for school kids which I also am against but he makes the wrong argument. 25 years ago my school had computer rooms where we learnt how to code and although I don't use that language now it is still the same concepts as any modern language.21
-
Wooohooo! I've finally bought myself an old school CRT TV. Now I can play my retro games like a human being.20
-
My school computers are *the most secure machines* on the planet as per the network admins at school.
A simple Unix command like sudo -i allows you to break in the system with "root" as password.
Pretty secure, right?3 -
(The exact opposite of a rant, yay)
My school gave everyone in my class (and the two other 10th-grade CS classes) these neat 64GB USB sticks.
They are our property (paid by our fee every student has to pay every year so the school can afford paper for the printers, school books, and other materials such as USB sticks for 10th graders), but we have to keep some files for a lesson on the root of the USB (currently ~900MB).
That's not an issue, personal files go in my _Personal folder anyway.
Of course, I wanted to VeraCrypt all my USB drives I use at school, but since I don't have admin rights at our school and they use Windows 10, I just used BitLocker. Good enough, the only thing I want to achieve with encryption is other students being unable to read data off a lost drive (such as my _Personal data)
Also this stick is hella fast even with BitLocker enabled, 200 MB/s (minus 13 MB/s with enabled BitLocker) sequential r/w speed according to CrystalDiskMark.33 -
So I got a call from a school friend today.
I'm currently doing majors in Computer science and I hadn't talked to her since high school.
She: "Hi! How are you?"
Me: "Hey, I'm great! How are you?"
It's really difficult to talk to someone after 2-3 years, considering you didn't talk much in school also.
She: "I'm great too!"
Me: "So what's up?"
She: "Listen, my friend lost her iPhone today. Cab you help us in retrieving it?"
Me: *hangs up*6 -
My friend at school (IT High School in Poland if you're interested) just asked me what version of Windows does Elliot in Mr. Robot use. After I said that it's not Windows, he didn't let me finish my sentence and said that you can't push macOS theming this far.10

Working at a school for a couple weeks and I've never been so scared to touch anything in my life...13
-
So i was teaching basic html and css to my cousin's high school class. I am not good at coming up with examples.23
-
My fellow students as high school freshmen: You can code right?
Me: Yup
Them: So can you like hack the school and better my grades(they are all honor students btw)
Me: *Sure, want me to hack paypal and get you some cash too?*
Them: Jeez just asked for a tiny favor.10 -
I changed the HTML of my school website to say 'MR. DAVIES SMELLS'. Having seen the ensuing havoc that I caused, I knew this was for me.5
-
My school stores everyone's username and passwords (including admins) in plain text on a Windows 2007 server that they remote desktop into.8
-
Was working on a style.css file in school. One of my friend approached me and said what is that?
I said, CSS!
*silence*
Custom Sexy Styles?
*facepalm*6 -
Currently I live in the city Utrecht. Right now a terrorist attack is happening next to my school with explosives and I'm at school right now.
Waiting it out now!16 -
Today my friend discovered a mechanical calculator at school, we were playing around with it for >1hour, very cool9
-
I'm in grade 9.
I started a programming club in my school.
I told them that I'd teach basic HTML,JS,CSS,C++,C,Java.
Nobody signed up.
Because it happens on Thursdays.
FML.
However, people told other people that I have wicked programming skills and so one of the school staff asked me to help them maintain their school website, which is currently just Google Sites (*vomit).
:(12 -
I think my kids would be bullied at school when they proudly say that roots of a tree are at the top.1
-
Newest additions to my 3rd country, high school student, under-budget working....er....station? I'll just call this my "computer bed" from now on.1
-
Some freshman at my school used inspect element to change some HTML and he thinks he's a hacker now. Lmao8
-
I programmed a random credit card generator at school and saved it to my :F drive which is the private drive for students to save stuff to. That night I tried accessing my account and it had notified me that it had been locked. I went into school the next day and was called into the office, the principal and Tech Administrator were there waiting for me and asked what the file was. The Tech Administrator tried to describe to me what he found
"This gen.html file seems to be malicious and puts our school at risk. It seems to be some sort of malware and stuff like that is prohibited at school."
Now me sitting in the chair listening to this, laughing in my head just said "okay" and nodded my head because he is the type of person to argue forever. They came to the conclusion to unlock my account by the end of the semester.
Just goes to show that it doesn't take much to get a Tech Admin position at a school.15 -
I managed to take down an entire school network with one VPN.
In short, I ran a personal VPN and eventually the System Administrators at my old school managed to pick it up as unknown traffic. For some reason, they managed to block the port but not the IP so I changed the port to 443 and their automatic system blocked port 443 on their entire network essentially rendering HTTPS useless for a few hours.
I never got approached about it but my school invested in a new IT team.3 -
Actual formatting in my high school textbook. (also fstream.h). And the code my teacher writes isn't much better.28
-
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.
I studied Latin for 6 years in high school.

I start my first real dev position tomorrow 6 months out of college where I graduated without a CS degree because my school didn't have a major only a minor.
Cue the imposter syndrome.3 -
The worst part about using the computers at my school is that my $200 mechanical rgb programmable keyboard with macro keys is at home.6
-
I just found this example in our school book. Should I be worried? (My teacher wrote the book BTW)19

After a years of struggle with the administration office I managed to create a coding club in my school! Things are finally changing2 -
Changed the HTML of my school site locally to say we went back to school on the Tuesday not the Monday and blagged an extra lay in.
My auntie then called my mum and told her my cousins were at school why aren't me and my sister? BUSTED.
So worth it though!4 -
On my first year of high school made a flash webpage for my class. It is still online.
...
Too embarrassed to share link.8 -
You know what really, really sucks about my school? Rant#00
I'm in my last year now and they removed one CS/IT lesson. Now I have two fucking 45min lessons (instead of three) of learning what I'm actually interested in.
Even worse: They don't provide and LK ("Leistungskurs" == advanced course) for CS/IT. Not like for Maths, English, German - okay but LATIN AND SPORT? Wtf
And this school calls themselves a MINT-school (Maths, IT, Natural Sciences, Technology).
EVEN WORSE: The 12th graders now don't even have a basic course CS/IT.
Fuck you school.9 -
I developed an app for a voluntary radio station that is being operated in my school... for both Android and iOS and without charging them a dime.
About a third of the people in school downloaded it - 600 people.
Haven't received any credit, but I gained some experience.6 -
( bad english alert )
Why everybody from my school class, saying "Windows is better than linux, because windows don't have commands like linux"12 -
Just double tapped my old school, paper notebook to "wake it" before writing something down. Feel like calling it a week and just go home.1

Was fired after 3 months. My boss said "how did you even pass engineering school?!"
I'm not a skilled programmer... and never will be!6 -
!rant - Story:
I got accepted to the university of Osnabrück!
Finally! I've had a though time.
After kindergarten kids went to primary school while I had to go to a place called "Vorschule". Kids with disabilities go there. I, for one, was not physically disabled. I was psychologically disabled.
My German was not that good. My native language is Turkish. I had to spend 1 or 2 years there, before I was able to attend the primary school like the normal kids.
In the primary school a few teachers started making racist comments. I didn't really understand them, but my father did. After 2 years of attending that school, I switched to another primary school and continued with everything there.
In the secondary school (comprehensive school) I got bullied a lot. I was getting racist comments on a daily basis. Even by some teachers. Whereas some other teachers were showing it indirectly.
In the same school a teacher made me get a bad grade in one subject on purpose. Thus I got a bad certificate. Not the certificate I deserved.
I spent a year in economics after the secondary school. I was in a vocational school. I didn't like it, because I wasn't really interested in economics.
"Why did you choose that then?" you might ask. That's a legitimate question.
I didn't get accepted in anything related to informatics.
Anyways, I got bullied there, too. Physically beaten by trouble makers in my class and mentally by a french teacher.
He told me that I will not be able to get my certification that allows me to attend a university after me telling him that I will change the school and try it again in informatics. Several times.
I was in the new vocational school after that one. It was very stressful.
I, again, got bullied there. But this time not by the kids, but by some abusive teachers and directors.
One of them was a racist moron. My ex-PE teacher. He someday told me that I won't be able to achieve anything in my life.
I was always naive and kind of let all these words destroy my future plans in my head, but I had a little bit of hope nonetheless.
Today, I got a letter in which it was written that I got accepted to the university of Osnabrück!
Omg! I'm so fucking happy! I could explode! (A lil racist pun)17 -
I was debugging my UDP server and client for 3 hours until I realized our school network has a firewall which blocks my connections.6
-
I work at the technology center of my school meaning I get calls if anyone has any tech issues. our school just changed all its computer to all-in-one computers. the day after I get a call from an instructor saying all the computers are missing.1
-
I """""accidentally"""'" found some security holes in my school's Windows public computer setup.
Every student and teacher has a personal Active Directory, obviously they should be able to only see their own right?
oh wait the directory up button in explorer shows me all of them and I have r/w access to teacher and student ADs.
That's cool.
Also, the command prompt, Run prompt ad Explorer path bar are disabled...
...but batch scripts work.
Sweet.
Surely I can't do something dumb like--- oh, regedit's blocked but not the reg command.
They use the-- WHY IS GPEDIT NOT BLOCKED
Well what the fuck.
(All of this was responsibly handled by emailing the tech department. They have an email just for this! ...got a bounceback "this person is no longer employed at XYZ School.")6 -
I tweeted a silly story about how I accidentally hacked my principal's email account when I was in middle school. (Yes, I did say "accidentally". The school network's security was that bad.)
Within minutes I had four replies telling me to contact people on Instagram to get my hacked account back. I guess I said the magic words and triggered some bots.
https://twitter.com/EmberQuill/...4 -
I used to screw around with the school computers, nothing much, a few batch files here, a few html scripts there. But once, they took away my use of the computer for, "Tampering with very important parts of the computer." Yeah.
Don't do html in school, kids.6 -
My friend told everyone in my school class that i programm...
And now they are asking, can you do this and that and what for specifications should my PC have to run this game...

at school, after the graduation ceremony my mom asked me: "so what was it again that you studied for?"

Checked out my college’s robotics team today. I was the only girl in the room, and I feel like I won’t make any close friends like I did in high school. I want my awesome high school robotics team back... 😢13

Background: I'm in middle school, and two popular games that people liked got blocked. My friend and I made a website with the blocked games on a free 000webhost subdomain. It was a crappy, twenty minute website that I made with just a view counter, the games, and a chat room for people looking for other people to play with.
Story: one day I opened up the chat room where another friend and I were gonna talk about our teacher behind her back. I opened the chat room, and in the previous chat text, there was a line that said "Username: " and a text box. Then, about five lines, each with two text boxes separated by a ":". I knew that it could've been my friend that "made" the site with me (he designed the logo and occasionally modified the HTML), but I suspected not. He wasn't smart enough. Now when I was building the chat room, I internationally didn't put in XSS protection, just to see if someone would catch onto it, and, to my surprise, someone obviously did. Now there's someone in my school, who could be just like me, but I don't know where. Man, I really wanna find him (or her)! Of course, it could be my teachers, who are messing with it and could be trying to get it blocked -_-1 -
Sometimes I see my old high school, or a library in my town. And I think of making a workshop to get the next generation excited about CS.
Then I remember I hate people.2 -
I brought my laptop and stuff to school the other day, it was my final period before school was over and it was more "do what you want" kind of thing. So I was playing with my terminal (since I have Linux) and one of the students came up to me and asked "What are you playing? Is that a game?", luckily I wasn't in that pissy mood so I just tried my best to explain to him what I was doing.6
-
Dude this ous the English I'm taught in my last year of school. I spend my time on the phone and I'm still the best in class xD5
-
Going on a school camp where all the students in the school go.
2 nights and 3 days, planning to bring my laptop and my phone to make games there. (poor 15yo)
Any ideas not to be seen to the teachers? My loyal friends wont tell it because i promised to bring some old android devices for them to play games.10 -
One of my teachers in school always put red lines on whatever I wrote ....now in college Android studio reminds me a lot about her...
-
My middle school sucks. My county sucks. My friends - they don't suck, they're just gone. Well, most of them. The county has divided my school as we went into high school. Half my school is going to one high school, and half to another. I'll never see my friends again, but most importantly, I won't have anyone to talk about coding with or anyone to teach 😪.4
-
My father used to beat the living shit outta me for getting low marks during my school days. Happy Father’s Day lol17
-
I've had enough. I'm organizing a net neutrality protest at my school. I've got a small group going already!!1
-
My school blocks all UDP traffic going outside their network. 1 - 65535. Which in turn means that I had to switch to TCP for my VPN to connect. Now my VPN is slow as shit. -.-8
-
Dear my school app developer,
.
I'd like to say FUCK YOU! update your app before asking money from me.1 -
My school class is going for a skiing trip soon. Since I don't have a laptop yet, no code for me in the evenings. :(12
-
I'm back. I'm the old itsnameless. I left programming because high school stuff. It was just overwhelming. I, slowly, left programming until the point I forgot everything. A lot of evaluations, high school stuff just for remembering NOTHING. The only thing I did this year on high school was losing a really big part of my time remembering weird stuff.
After all this stuff, I would love to spend my 2 months vacations mostly in the place that I've met lovely, awesome people. That place is called devRant.
So, yeah, hello there.
P.S: Of course after the vacations I'll still be here. lol10 -
So my old school left this like this for a year or two now. Should I tell them that it's not gonna fix by itself magically?6
-
Just finished my 1 year intership! Now 3 months school till the final exam.
// sidenote: got a job offer from my practical trainer 😀1 -
1. Get some money with little contracts got by my school
2. Pay fucking good holidays with my gf
3. Finish my big school project that will validate almost two years
4. Launch my startup -
I knew I had to become a dev when I started learning PHP instead of sleeping or playing while skipping my high school courses.3
-
Best: My projects are working, I could get a great salary
Worst: I'm working for a school project and I have no time.2 -
When I was still in school my teacher used to yell at me and mark me down because I use to mistakenly end my sentences with semi-colons;3
-
So I really hate iOS programming. I'm in school and all my devices for dev are Microsoft based and fuck trying to use hackintosh. So now I have to waste more of my time and gas money going to school to use the stupid fucking imacs to Develop in a language I have 0 interest in. Fuck apple, fuck iOS, and fuck swift!3
-
I was practising Java at my school(they were still teaching POWERPOINT,f**k)
They got themselves 20 shiny All-in-one garbage with Windows 10.
I got my bootable usb Linux with me,and fired up Kali.By mistake my program ran into infinite loop....
And the rest is history, got banned from the lab😭
P.s.I don't have anything to code on ,i write my programs on paper and executed them on the pc at my school, what to do now9 -
This pic is from my class messenger group.
Translation:
Dear teacher! Our group have chosen another web builder for the project, we hope it's not a problem...
Yeah, I use templates which I can copy code from to my group's site, but for the love of *!#* life I consider myself a noob beginner even tough I've been in this field for a year or two now but I can code with more confidence now. What the hell are these people going to do if they only willing to rely on school and wix...
But I can always be wrong, these are just my thoughts.6 -
A school-related rant:
Went to my school yesterday to get my computer science degree, aaaand....
Surprise! You got a degree in Liberal Arts! Even though when you graduated, it said Computer Science and thought they already fixed the problem about me graduating with Liberal Arts instead of CS! Nope! Still Liberal Arts!
Sigh, fuck that school. I'm sure when my wife finds out about it, she'll definitely flip out and make me fix this, because she also spent time for me to finish school and get a stupid degree. I just don't wanna deal with it anymore and instead keep learning on my own, make projects, and be so good that employers can't ignore me.7 -
All I want is my holidays back, with all the nice stuff I did..
*being sad cause school starts again* -
Fuck you Crapple.
I have to reset my password again just because I cant remember that one security question.
How the fuck am I supposed to know who my favourite primary school teacher is?11 -
I hate this screen...... Unfortunately I cannot switch to Linux because I need visual studio for my school project which is a xamarin project.9
-
I didn't really plan to study computer science, it just kinda happened. So when a few years into school my GPA was low my mom concluded it wasn't right for me.
Thing is, I knew I was good at programming and problem solving and so did my classmates. I even helped people who the school system said were smarter than I was.
So now I am constantly doing projects and freelancing with hopes that I'll prove myself to her.
... -
As of today, 12:11 CEST, my days as a student who hates school are over. In one month, i will be a programmer. Feels fucking great.
I may go back in the future, but not right now.
Also, in my new job i have to go to school to, but only 1/3 of the time, and i am getting paid for it.2 -
Was coding all night & fell asleep at 3:30 AM. I was late for school so my mom was pissed at me. ☹️1

Make an effort to keep hardware up to date. My school uses Windows Server 2008 to teach Networking 🤔🤔🤔3
-
My friend and i once found our school district's admin panel for everything related to networks in each and every school of the district...
-
This week in my school: No access to computers until next week. Magnificent. We don't work with laptops until the 11th grade so... fuck2
-
Borrowed 2 books from my school library. The passionate programmer caught my interest. And I grabbed the rootkits one just because I have little idea what a rootkit is so I was curious2
-
Wondering if I got enough time left in my life just to hear this one:
Using your legs for transportation? That’s so old school.1 -
Have been working as a freelancer since i was 14 with a lot of projects parallel to school. Just graduated high school and got my first job as a software developer only by using reference to freelance projects.
I'm so excited!6 -
Tomorrow, I'll start my last year of study at a web development school.
At the end of it I'll get a title that'll allow me to get recognition around the world, but the school doesn't end until 9th September 2018, so in roughly in a year.
I'm honestly shitting my pants, wish me luck 😅2 -
anyone else ever want to thumb up an email
the school tech manager just sent a common sense email to the kids in my school and it's surprising how much these kids need to know these kinds of things like seriously
'tech infused school' yet most kids barely know how to use MS Word
like seriously -_-1 -
Well I figured out why my delete button wasn't working...
I'm so burnt out and ready for school and this capstone project to be done.1 -
Why didn't I know about devrant when I was working on my motion detecting security system for school... Would have had lots to rant about2
-
So basically people in school were playing krunker.io, and shellshock.io in class. The school took notice and decided to "futureproof" their blockage. They basically blocked all io domains, because io domains are definitely all games. So yes, that's the story of how atom.io and every other io domain is blocked at my school4
-
I'm actually excited for this school year, since now I'm taking my programming class. (I'm taking HTML, CSS and JavaScript)7
-
Going back to school to get my degree for Network Security/ Administration.
Which I'm doing right now -
For some reason I would find it quite nice if Brackets or some other good IDE had a mobile version.
Since I don't have a laptop at this time and I'm a teenager that is dead broke, I might as well be able to work on my projects on my phone and just upload them into my drive for later use.
Because trying to do my school projects is annoying when all of the computers/chromebooks don't have anything that I can use.
(And because they're district devices, you can't do much except for what they want you to)
So I end up having to either wait until my actual programming class (which is an hour long, and since we're sitting down at a computer it feels like 20 minutes) or I could wait until I get home and do it on my desktop PC.
So yeah, I think it'd be nice for a mobile Brackets (or other IDE, I just personally like Brackets)2 -
Let me start by sharing a bit of history about myself.
When i finished my secondary school i did not go immediately to high school. I took a year because i needed to improve some grades to enter high school more easily.
In that year i started to learn programming languages (Java).
So when i went to high school i already had a good foundation of programming logic and could make some simple games that my friends were amazed (Like Pong and tetris).
In my first year in high school, in my hometown, a photo frame builder's shop asked me if i could make a desktop program to help him calculating prices and such.
I did it in like 4 months. This was not my biggest projet so far but was the most satisfying at the end. He paid me really good money for it and i was very proud of myself.2 -
Since this daily schedule stuff is catching on, here's my day!
- Wake up
- Work
- Eat breakfast
-Work
- Eat lunch
- Brush Teeth/floss

When I was in 2nd grade in my school and it was a mandatory course for all the students.
I'm glad it was mandatory. -
What would you guys say is a good strategy to learn coding. I'm a U.S Marine, waiting to pick up on my MOS school at 29 palms. I will be dealing with coding and I want to get ahead before I pick up my MOS school. What do you guys recommend I learn and a good source to learn fast.11
-
Today I asked to the guy who manages the website and the server of my school if the site has an API or something else to take the circulars from the website and display them on an application.
He laughed at me and said that what I'm talking about was useless.
After that I want to retire from school.2 -
over Skype with my mother
"I've been busy lately because I'm going back to school again"
"What are you studying?"
"Programming and web development"
"Okay" -
A record system containing student's information. A project given by my teacher so that I could get the "Best in Computer" award in my school. He helped me to get that award because my school was unfair in giving chances for other students not in the top class to get the award. Unfortunately, I didn't pass it on time. Even if I was the highest in computer in my level, I didn't get the award just because they never gave me a chance
-
Don't remember the reaction. I was too young and it was too long ago, but my path was pretty set in stone since basic school. I started coding in second grade. My father is developer himself. So I got to code with my dad even before joining highschool - learning C was more usefull than Basic at school. And I got some simple tasks from him that he used in his projects :-) But during high school got few gigs of my own doing some sys admin stuff and some development. Got first serious job during university and my parents were just worried whether I'll finish university. Well dropped out before getting my masters but got at least bachelor degree. I think I turned out just fine :-)
-
I can't handle the three projects a week I have in my school, I made like 60 hours of work last week. How do you do guys?!4
-
for some reason many of the girls at my school are obsessed with peppa pig and I just don't get it6
-
i was probably 4 or 5, my mom brought some educational games from school and I'd often play them. I don't remember a time before computers though4
-
my two friends and i might start an app/web development service.
the question is: how are three high school kids going to find clients that are ok with high school kids maintaining their apps & websites?8 -
Need some advice. I'm 19, working on my own fintech startup. Should I apply to Ycombinator or finish high school first? The prototype is basically ready, but the Winter 2018 YC is taking place while I have school. What should I do?8

God damnit, I'm 20 and already got a burn out due to work (fast food job) and school.
I go to school 5 days a week 8 hours a day and I work every weekend 8 hours a day only so I can afford my study better and to be able to afford my internship to Japan next year.
The worst thing is I'm in a endless loop because if I stop with school I need to work full time to pay off my school loan and if I stop my work I can't pay for part of my school and my internship.
If anyone has any tips for me what to do before this ends badly I will gladly hear them2 -
We're all working from home starting today.
My university is still active, bigger school events are being postponed though. -
It all started when I got my first iPhone. I had so many ideas for any kinds of apps, so I wanted to learn how to program them. I went to school and learnt programming. (I started with Java)
While beeing at that school I taught myself Objective-C and I started to write Apps. After school I got a job as an iOS Developer. -
Two years ago, i made my graduation and started my training as system administrator. Today I got an email in my inbox; subject: like to help us?
My former IT teacher / admin asked me if I would like to create the new IT infratructure for the new school building. I never thought, that I ever go happily back to school %)1 -
I like how I'm the only programmer or tech-kid in my school, since everybody else is using there phones for SnapChat and texting in the middle of class.
While I'm over here talking about the insides of software and hardware like if I were the person that made them.
Seriously, I wish I could show my classmates that spending all of their time on apps and websites that sell your personal data is less fun (and basically stupid) than actually making what you want with nothing but a text editor and computer.
But oh well, 90% of my classmates are either assholes, cringy white girls (or Mexican girls), and the only people I find tolerable or even likable, are the people that don't talk much.
(Like me)8 -
I've never felt that great: just finished school, get my first job, get drunk with friend. Hope it will not end too soon.3
-
I remember I couple years back in school nobody in my class was really tech-savvy except me and friend... Midway through class the teacher was saving a PowerPoint presentation. But when she was editing the name she started to edit the file extension not know what .pptx meant... The look of dismay me and my friend shared as she did this is one of my greatest memories of school.3
-
I just relised that my primary school had more "cs" lessons then high school
it was just one lesson with python turtle
The most high school has is photoshop and dreamweaver5 -
At my school we use iPads (I don't know why) and the teachers can see what's on your screen, lock you inside an app, block apps/basically everything, lock/shut down your iPad, uninstall apps and they can even see what's your location. It sucks ass, but with my "professional" hacking skills I figured out a way to hack the system. If I use a VPN, for some reason they can't do anything to my iPad. I'm still waiting for the day my school is going to ditch iPad's an buy us laptops, but at least I can sleep good at night without having my teacher doing stuff to my iPad.
(I have a ton of other things I don't like about my school, and would love to rant about, but I don't want this rant to be 5000 pages long)5 -
My school is awesome, their network infrastructure is so secure (not),
that you can easily control other people's desktops with Windows' basic tools. -
It was amazing getting into programming in high school about three years ago, programming Lego robots with my team. Coolest project till date.

Hello everyone
I want to know of the educational systems around the world because I think that my country's educational system is the worst over them all.
In my country schools literally turn students into books & their worth is overwhelmingly decided by their marks. Because of that system students don't try to learn anything outside of school program. Currently I am suffering from that because I can't keep up with my school program & learning programming & algorithms for competive programming at the same time.
Sorry for my bad article & my bad English 😢.8 -
Paid for a private school in my country (France) cause public isn't so great.
After 3 years, realize that it was more bullshit than school so continue to paid until the last year to get diploma.
At the end, I was on Udemy to buy lessons and learn. Was way much cheaper than my school but since it's hard here without diploma, I had to finish scholarship...2 -
Logging into my schools blackboard using selenium is only redirected on school WiFi
Outside school WiFi I go directly to the site. But on the school WiFi it pauses on a redirect page with a link that loops back to the redirect when grabbed by selenium And selenium fails
Fucking hell2 -
I'm in school, next lession is gonna be programming exercise with c#, soooo gonna log into my linux home server and do some stuff Xd8
-
So... school is about to begin again...
Honestly I'm both excited and intimidated about it. It's my last year in high school, and I still haven't decided what to do after it. I guess I'll go to an university, and possibly continue with my conservatory... I want to do both things, hoping that the weight won't crush me.
If you're like me, still a student, what do you think you would like to do after high school?6 -
My school makes us use AWT instead of JavaFX so let me just express how much of a pain in the ass it is to do assignments on my 4k laptop
-
Hello friends 😊
I just need to get this of my chest
But at my school we currently have this project where we need to create a webapp eventually which is nice. BUT first we NEED to spend a whole semester documenting stuff! I mean some things are necessary I know that! But a whole semester ffs I'm studying to be programmer so I WANT TO CODE STUFF
Why is my school like this 😩16 -
Depends...
My last/current retail job: was dating the managers daughter at the time
My last tech related job: my old high school decided to dangle another job opportunity in my face then quickly snatch it away7 -
A really big pet peeve of mine is that we don't get teached coding in schools. Right now I'm about to finish middle school and wander of to high school. I am really surprised that my country's school system doesn't teach coding! The only way to get teached coding in our schools is in 11th grade by picking exact sciences and going to learn IT. It's really stupid when coding should start in the start of high school, in, at least, 9th grade. Really pissed me of...5

!Rant && !!CS
Today I had to go to school on Saturday because it 's visitor day, when pupuil from elementary school visit our school to decide where to go. My CS teacher asked me to present CS-lessons, so I did. It was much fun showing and explaining our projects to the parents and their children. After the event my teacher suggested me to become a teacher (because I did so well ;-) ) and I am really thinking about it right now. Maybe it is the right choice for me...1 -
Wrote some macros for Excel to make my job easier and decided I'd rather only do that part of my job, so I went back to school to learn to code for reals
-
Today was the last day of my 10weeks internship. That was a great experience. Returning to school make me feel so sad :(2
-
My regret will maybe be in the near future, which is not going to high school... I can still decide though!3
-
I should do school work.. But instead.. I'm attempting to install Arch on my other laptop :D first issue.. Can't even boot 💿
Gonna be fun5 -
After failing Chemical Engineering and Med school... I later chose Computer Systems Engineering and loved my very first HelloWorld.java program!
-
Some guys at my school are talking about their web design test. Apparently they only learn the definitions to some vocab for the first 2 months.
-
When you hate your school cuz the degree was completely useless but now they encroach on things you like.....
MY EYES, THEY BURN!!!!!!! SO DOES MY WALLET..... -
At college, second year, basic CS for that school. The teacher calls me to her office, and asked me if I had any backup of my work, because the school computer I used, had crashed and the school didn't have backup of it.
2 years of school material, lost. So the teacher and school director had to vouch for me. Still got best grade in glass. -
Fuck school. Fuck AP classes. I don't even have a job yet, and I still have hardly any time for my own projects.8
-
The worst part about programming assignments at my school is formatting the god damn output strings. Fuck2
-
Been basically doing QA for the past month after finishing my website, today my boss hits me with a "implement these few more 'small' features"; I leave for school in two days😑
-
My family supported it from day 0, as I went to a specialized school to finish "high school".
They do push me towards more studying (I got a bachelor's in computer science), but idk if that's really the right call. -
So this one dude at my school asked at a student conference, if they could swap Google for Ecosia as the search engine for all school computers. This ended up becoming an actual thing there a year after my graduation.
Imagine if a lot of other schools would do that too? Planting trees and ditching a monopoly, because one simple change from the IT department.1 -
Playing The Secret of Monkey Island on my uncle's computer in 1991. I asked my parents for a computer that year instead of a Super Nintendo... for school of course.
-
My teacher in school: Starts PC, after booting the SSO login prompt appears - teacher looks confused and doesn't know what to do because: "My computer always displays Google, where's my Google at?"
-
So I’m currently in my senior year at high-school, striving to get my Technical High-School degree.
My specialization is “System Programming”. I wish we studied something at school related to it ...
Long story short~
I’m going to my finals for this semester : We had to create a traffic light program, coded in C++.
Greatest thing was - WELL WE HAD TO WRITE OUR CODE ON PIECE OF A PAPER 🙂🙃.
So I’m thinking ... Shall I add “I’m so good that I can program piece of a paper “ in my resume ?
#GreatEducation!3 -
I learned my first lines of code in school. Oh the feeling of making "Hello world" appear on the screen😭😍
-
School bus, why must you alarm me oh so very loudly that I can't stay in my room, sipping coffee and coding, for the entire day...
-
I'm going to be starting a programming club at my High School. Any ideas for projects? We're CS focused4
-
Hey guys, I have a big decision to make and wanted some advice before I did so. I got an email from a recruiter (who looked at my git repos) with viking code and was offered placement in their immersive program. The immersive progrAm is 12 weeks long and amounts to 1000 hours of training...the stack is something like javascript, angularjs, ruby, ect... finally the program is deferred tuition so I pay with a percentage of my salary.
The only issue is I was going to start school for a 2 year associates of applied science (programming specialist ) degree. If I do the bootcamp it would postpone school. So my decision comes down to doing the bootcamp and postponing school, or finish school then possibly see if there is an opening in 2 years for bootcamp. What do y'all think?15 -
So one of my aunt who is a school teacher had her Windows 10 + Ubuntu 16 dual boot laptop updated with Ubuntu 18 by the school principal. The school principal having no clue what she was doing, ended up messing up the boot manager. I hear she simply deleted the Ubuntu 16 system files to make space and proceeded to install Ubuntu 18. The school principal took no responsibility of the catastrophe because it worked fine with other laptop.
The school has no IT department or anything of that sort either.
Guess who had to help there? Me. However, I have no clue about that area, anyhow, I managed to show a way to bootup Ubuntu 18 which is what they use at school. Windows won't boot anymore.
About a month later, now I hear the drive where Ubuntu 18 is installed is full and it is causing some issues. There is no delete option on right to make space.
May God help them. 🤷🏻♂️7 -
My high school teacher has literally sent us an email about classroom change instead of walking from one building to another and tell us in person.2
-
I am currently bored in school and at home and want to build a Jarvis like virtual assistant for both my home computer and school computer
Anyone have an idea of where I should start and the kind of things I should look into and learn
Assume I have no knowledge since
Thank you for your time4 -

Question to the devs that hire.
Would you hire a developer with the qualifications:
- knows multiple programming languages (can be any but knows them well)
- has worked the past 6 years in the field however worked during his school life.
- started of career in web development and worked with high end clients, (big corps, businesses, celebs)
- does not have a CS or Engineering Degree (has a different degree that is remotely related)
- has failed his A Level exams (pre-college, high school board exams by Cambridge) (not that this matters)
Disclaimer: This is not about me. I was in an argument with my extended family about the importance of grade school education in work. My family consists of Teachers and School Administrators entirely. The above point all define me and I was successful enough to earn more than what my family does early on when joining college. I did however fail my alevels only to get a scholarship in a great University for my field.5 -
Should I stay with Win10Home on my laptop, or upgrade to Education edition? (Cuz my school let me do it)2
-
Last week of my fixed term contract, it was my first work experience, and it was related to my studies, it's awesome to have a work which is also a hobby. Now I'm returning to School!
-
I just got an offer from my school, I can make my last semester in Taiwan. Is any of you living here. How is the life ?
-
I'm excited to be starting Lambda School next week! I plan to keep track of my progress, so look forward to that.2
-
This http://thedailywtf.com/articles/... reminded me to my high school days (not long ago, only 25+ yrs) ;)5

I graduated from my High School last Spring, and since then as a part of a huge overhaul of the education systems, they decided to put the school into the 21st century. The problem? They're doing it all wrong. Every school in the district is acting on its own, making transitions from one grade to another painful. The middle school purchased a cart of iPads despite the fact that Elementary schools use Surface, and the High School uses 2-in-1s. But what makes it worse is the services. The High School used Office365 and OneNote, while the Middle School uses Google Classroom and cloud storage. If the school board wants to make education simpler, modern life, and efficient, the least you could do is have everyone on the same page. Right now, costs are higher, grades are confusing, and efficiency is lower. Each teacher pretty much fends for themselves. I volunteered to help them sort this out by being on the educational committee in charge of the decisions, but I graduated and they felt like they were doing fine. Seriously?1

It's 2.30AM now, and I'm guiding my high school friend on how to compress a file... It has been 2 hours now..4
-
I'm mostly self-taught, but there are a couple people who defined my understanding of computing
- My amazing elementary school friend whose father worked at IBM and who initially turned my interest from astrophysics towards computing. I don't know whether physics would've been fruitful but I know computing is.
- My high school friend, who taught me the basics of OOP. Though we agree on almost nothing today, his explanations about code quality defined my understanding of the matter which I then used to draw completely different conclusions
- My high school mathematics teachers, who tolerated the way I abused every tool at my disposal to construct proofs that resembled a rollercoaster, and helped me develop my own understanding of mathematics
- 3blue1brown for producing replayable videos in a similar quality to my high school maths lectures with additional stunning visuals. No content on the internet fits the way I think quite as much as that channel. -
MY SCHOOL HHAS FOOD TECHNOLOGY AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES (GP MANDATORY TOO) BUT ONLY ICT AND NO COMPUTER SCIENCE
THE ICT CURRICULUM TEXTBOOK IS OUTDATED AND CRINGY
MY SCHOOL DOESNT EVEN HAVE ICT OR COMPUTER SCIENCE FOR IB

I can't believe how many people don't know the difference between Java and JavaScript in my department at my school. They really need to reevaluate if this is their field.
-
Planning to open my own coding school soon.
Can you give me some tips and advices?
Any critique/tips appreciated!4 -
Sometimes, I feel my school is a prison.
I'm sitting there, 8-10 hours per day, learnin' things I already know, and all I can do is sitting quiet to `don't disturb during the lesson`. I can't even use my laptop.
But, school also is nice in some ways, my principal allowed me to run a Hacktoberfest event in my school, make kinda radio in our school and make an app for our SmartTV (yep, we have a TV in school) to show weather, changes in lesson plans etc.
But still, I really feel this is the prison. One more year, and I'll finish this shit and go...to another school because `you need to graduate to do anything in your life`. Btw, do ya know any good ways how to become CTO or COO one day? Just asking. Greetings, I hate my school, have a nice day.10 -
At 7, I found the ZX-81 of my dad in the attic, then learn BASIC with books. I got some LOGO lessons at school, then we got internet at home around '96, and discover web programming... many years and langages later, I am freelance web developer and teach code in High School. :)
-
Where have i been?
school > home > school > home > school > home
every day for 7 days a week.
Learning the Java Android API just finished learning about checkboxes and switches
my first school i started in when i was little got hit with rona (covid)
my sister's school 4th grade class got hit with rona (the whole class tested positive except for my sister's friend which tested negative Lucky by a strand of hair. if he wasn't in the morning annoucements then he would be sick)
didn't shut down the school to at least clean or did contact tracing just resumed normal work stuff
wearing a mask everyday to get a face breakout
the bathrooms and schools itself are getting damaged by devious licks which includes stealing and or damaging school property even taking bathroom toilets and soap / towel dispensers and selling or using them hmmm anyone else have anything thats worse than mine?2 -
Mark my name well. Laban oyusu. You're kids n family will read about me when im done with school.😏4
-
So my friend has got me into playing Old School RuneScape and honestly it’s really nice and I’m enjoying it, idk if I’ll try the newer version since old school rs is still supported (from what I’ve been told)
I’ve noticed that the game is basically just an economics simulator and I am down for it2 -
My old school made a youtube channel called:
*SCHOOL NAME* Tech Tips.
With half of the teachers talking about computers. The Teachers are 60/70.3 -
Well was my last day at my old school for this contract and I already miss being there...
Fuck 3 week contracts man. -
Looks like an interesting Intern position around my place.
Too bad I still didn't even graduated middle school. ^^2 -
One's attitude towards something really affects your relationship with others.
I hate school so everyone at school thinks I'm this weird, anti-social freak.
I love programming...everyone in my programmer circle of friends and acquaintances sees me as this cheerful and social person. -
Keeping the part time offer of my current job to continue doing school full time, instead of reversing that and not having to pay for school3
-
I like to look back at what I considered 'programming' back in high school compared to what I'm doing now as a almost CP college graduate
Still know absolutely nothing. But that's immensely more than what I did as the best student in my high school programming elective and the barely accomplishments i achieved as a high school intern at CMU
I still have a copy of some my old high school 'code' (more like data trash)on a flash drive just for memory's sake -
Everytime there is something computer related to fix at home, my parents say: Thats why we send you to IT school.
-
Alternate reading, practice, and slamming my head into the wall until I could.
School helped too. I definitely learned way more on the job than I did in school. -
Became a team Manager 2 yrs ago, realize that was a bit out dated when I created my Rant profile :(, My specialty are old school1
-
my school blocked tor connections to there website so lol rip me grades IDK if whonix might fix it
IDIOTS!2 -
He was not reslly my dev-teacher, he was a math/physics teacher. But he had an after school an it workshop. That was the first place where i really worked with development. I was just a bit with html, php and LEGO mindstorms but it helped me with my knowledge. He is one of the best teachers in my school. Without him I would probably making windows and doors.
-
I just went back to Old School Runescape and I played it 7pm - 2am last night so I guess that's my new distraction
-
I know it's not really code but, I'm so pissed my school now the blocked the registry editor, makes changing the unchanable wallpaper harder2
-
Right before I became a dev I was in school for networking, and even got to do an internship with the networks my department of a school but then decided to do the codez. It's been 2 years since and my dad still thinks I do networking things since he hears me mention servers . (I'm a backend developer)
-
is there a plug-in or software i can use to make my school computer screen darker I hate the brightness :(4
-
so my friend got told he had to stay after school for math every day he had math to catch up on work but this idiotic teacher told him he had to stay every tuesday and thursday...the only days this week he didnt have math class, yeah our school system sucks
-
Just applied for my next school, I'm going to study application development. Lets hope for the best and hope that I pass my exams and get accepted.1
-
Ok, so i'm passionnate about programming and wanna turn this passion into my job... I'm currently studying in high school and i have to look at some schools before i pass my exams..
What do you recommand me, wich formations to learn Game Programming or Programming in general after high school ? I'm from France, i'll search about similarities if it's only UK, US...6 -
So last summer I got a job as a software engineer. It went great for a while, and it came time to go back to school. I'm a senior in high school, and the Sterling Scholar for computer technology, plus I'm in charge of my high schools website. It's getting pretty hard to balance this all out, and I've been considering pausing work until school is finished. What do you guys think? 😐1
-
thinkin of making web dev video tutorials for high school kids on my youtube channel just introductory stuff
-
Devs/cs majors seem to be the most dedicated to learning out of any group of people at my school, anyone think this is true beyond school?
-
My friends making me do their coding project for school : 😈
Teacher finding the same code for both of us: 😒3 -
can someone help giving ideas to this fucking project of my school, I need to make a website in asp.net a c# desktop client, an android app and somehow a hardware needs to be involved, pls help I'm freaking out here, hate this school 😠8
-
If you like developing apps, then it may be a nice idea to work as a developer. In my case, developing was my hobby while I was in school. And after school, I started working as a dev.
-
My school:
Oh yeah starting 5th year of CS!
"You have to take this year 1 course"
"WHY?!"
"Because fuck you, that's why!"
