Shared screen with a client over Skype. Showed them in Postman that their API wasn't working as expected. It was expecting a json. Instead it was giving error code 400 instead of 200.
Message :
"Error: No error. All OK"

I was once at a hackathon and got into a team with some people out of the same company. They brought all of their fancy tools with them, which no one understood except for them.
They ended up doing all of the back-end and I designed a f***** logo, some slides and bored myself to death for the remaining 18 hours or so.3 -

Why is Java so comfy?
I don't know why, but every time I try to use Javascript and Python I feel lost in those functional gimmicks and fancy libraries.
Java feels like the warm, soft old couch at home.9 -
Our university has a rather small gym, and it tends get pretty crowded. They have an online counter, so I wrote a Python script that queries the current number of people every minute, and logs it in a CSV (no need to get fancy). Hopefully in a week I’ll have enough data to spot the quiet times 😎6

Worked as a web developer on a really small agency and we always said to customers that were not designers so they need to provide us with a mockup if they want it fancy.
One customer wanted us to design a campaign site for an event and we asked for a design mockup.
"Sure, I'll send it right over!"
About 2 hours later a bike messenger knocked on our door and gave us a coaster from the merchandise. -

Oh look, a new fancy MacBook Pro 2018.
How come noone is talking about the extreme heat throtteling problem they have with the 2018 laptops?
They can't even hold their base clockspeed when doing compiling code. And they become extremely hot (worse then the last gen, which was already insane).
I know devs/creators/editors want the most powerful computer out there, but supporting something like this is just laughable.

In an unexpected turn of events, it appears as if years of choosing fancy bullshit over code maintainability will cause said fancy bullshit to eventually break and no obvious way to fix it. There's no way anyone would have seen this one coming.3

It's a little dark but I got my MacBook from a failed startup and they paid me with the MacBook. Got the screen pretty cheap on letgo, it's nothing fancy or amazing but it does what I need it to do. I got the blue yeti used off eBay for a great deal and this whole setup is on my loft bed's desk since my room is small.

Whenever Facebook decides to do one of its fancy animations about all the things you've posted pictures of in the past month etc. I'm sure they expected people to be posting pictures of parties, holidays etc.
I only post either pictures of my pets or something I'm working on (running cables in walls, cutting up bits of wood, decorating etc.) So it looks utterly ridiculous when one of those animations plays.1 -
All these super expensive and fancy enterprise tools. CloudWatch, AppDynamics, Grafana, Splunk and whatnot. Spent a month trying to figure out why the fuck the app does not perform well.
Took 1 day with tcpdump, awk and gnu utils to figure out why.
Should anyone need a tcpdump analyzer -- try my awk script. Shows response times of each network call w/o impacting app performance :)

Most useless premium laptop feature: touch screen.
For my new Lenovo I saved hundreds of dollars because I opted for the second best screen option. Lower resolution WQXGA (2560 x 1600) 165Hz, beacuse the 4K touch enabled fancy schmancy screen of my current Dell XPS 15 has barely been used. I keep Outlook open on it FFS, and I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have used the touch feature 😖

MS Access and VBA.
This combo is the worst dev tech I had to use it by now. Why? Because even if you try it, you can't make a single line of clean code. The syntax is horrible, it still use GOTO...
Maybe the reason why I hated working with it is linked to the context too: I was (and still) developing a system using NoSQL database and this system should be mostly fully configurable through metadata within JSON documents and it was. But we were still writing every JSON by hands so we decided we needed to develop a web based utility for us and clients who would need to configure the system but one of the head decision making people said that we don't need to use fancy technologies (because NoSQL is already "fancy") and that the configuration tool will be develop with Access because he used it a lot when he was younger and when he was coding during its free time. He said that using Access would be much easier and much time saving than our "fancy web based solution" and that he could help if we had questions...
Developing a MS Access software is already a pain in the ass but when you need to output JSON with it...1 -
Is it just me or JavaScript on the browser really has become over complicated then it should be? It’s way overkill for the job that it’s supposed to do. Every time I hear about these new frameworks and I see the guys just loving it I cringe so hard, I want to say something then I stop because they are loving it sooo much. It’s a disaster I hate looking at the front end it’s a huge pile of fancy shit.6

This will be my last project ever with WordPress. Seems like they added a site "customizer" (wysiwyg) which looks fancy and all, but after a few minutes configuring options the customizer starts lagging, fan starts getting louder, CPU & RAM go up so I do some profiling on that page:
Full layout repaints on every mousemove event, mem usage starts at 125MB and goes up up up to even 200MB while staying idle.. wtf? How did this even get shipped?

Noname Russian $17 wireless charger somehow makes less high pitched coil noise than my fancy nomad charger.
Yes it’s ugly. Yes the led is blasting and yes I painted over the led with a black nail polish.
I disassembled the nomad charger and located the coils that were making noise. I’m going to either fill them with epoxy (a common technique used by gpu enthusiasts to get rid of coil noise) or replace them completely.

My old mechanical keyboard broke, so I had to buy a new one. I'm Brazilian, so the local market for mech keyboards is either limited or very fancy (fancy as gaming keyboards).
So I got this amazing Logitech G610, which unfortunately is not sold with blue switches here, only brown ones. Very solidly built, well made, good extra keys and whatnot.
BUT OH MY, who ever thinks those LED effects are good for normal usage after 5 minutes of playing with them??? VERY distracting! <o>

Worked on website that has Twitter Bootstrap, including the fancy grid classes. Colleague adds new class with the brilliant name 'paddington-bear'. Class only had padding: 0 13px;.

Why are you all so obsessed with hating jQuery? For me it just does the job done. Animate stuff. But I agree being totally dependant on javascript is bad for any website. Is it normal for my PC to use 100W power with just x11 running, nothing fancy open while when using windows it just takes about 60W. I didn't find anything about that on the web so I'm really concerned at the moment.

As a part of a project in university, we are making an extension to a functional programming language, made in Scala. One of my groupmates had made some fancy logic with spawning threads, but we had some issues with multiple function parameters. Me and another mate have then spent like 3 days trying to figure out the problem, only to realise he forgot a $ sign in string interpolation for naming parameter. Currently we have to make a new REST API at work. I want to have a clear and functional API (with HAL JSON, that is given). But my colleagues don’t like this, because they don’t like the design (the look and feel) of the HAL JSON responses. They just want an easy API with a nice design, so they want to ignore half of the HAL JSON specification. But a REST API don’t has to be easy and don’t need a fancy design, REST APIs are not for humans but for computers! How can I explain this to them?3

Xcode Lockup #35: Changing Variable Names
You right click on a variable and get the opportunity to change the name throughout the project. Yea!
It does this funky visual collapse thing which is rather nice, showing you everywhere it is used. Fancy. And the world needs more fancy, doesn't it.
For some reason instead of letting me change the variable, I get the Beach Ball Of Death and Xcode unceremoniously quits. BUT NOT BEFORE THE FUCKER SAVED THE PROJCT FILE STATE. What?
Now I re-open the project and yep, we are back into the variable name change fancy interface and Beach Ball Of Death. Looks like the project file is now fucked.
But it was oh so important to give me the fancy folding interface... we (Xcode dorks) will fix the defects later.

Any recommendations for a terminal app for iPad? I only need it to ssh into Linux servers and run stuff/vim/htop/etc., don't really care about fancy features or local device access. Good performance and security would be pluses. I don't mind paying if it's worth it. Hey folks, I need some tricks. I am currently a junior dev and struggle with starting side projects. I have some fancy ideas I'd love to work on. Problem is, I HATE UI design. I can't start working on an idea because I want them to look awesome. It is absolutely no problem to code the logic / backend, but the fucking design... I just hate it.
For example, I have some fancy ideas for an file manager that fits my needs. Haven't seen something yet like I imagine right now. I mainly code in C# (or Java) and I have to develop custom UI controls for it, align shitty controls, think about freaking color schemes,... I hate it. I simply hate it.
Do you also struggle with that? Any ideas how to overcome that?

Quickly! I've got a report due in about 2 hours, I've got the data and already some charts generated with tools.
Now, I need a nice timeline generator for calculated data. Something where I can plug in times and durations — and get back a fancy looking timeline. Similar to what Chrome dev tools does for network inspection.6 -
The 1080ti is rated at a little more over 11 teraflops. GPUs with over 1 teraflops of compute performance was released in the early 2000's.
It's 2017 and we are stuck with fancy gen xxx cpus.
I smell a huge compute performance wastage.1 -
Just finished my final assignment in my intro to programming class (req to take others) a week early. Had to read in 2 files: car model's mpg city & highway,
convert both lists to float,
find the average mpg for both files,
Count the number of 'gas guzzlers',
Then print out the data from the 4 functions.
Feels so good! Not turning it in yet. Gonna make it fancy with all this extra time.2 -
The thirst for revenge got me to learn Batch, making fancy CLI programs. It wasn't until I got into Web Dev with self-directed lessons to learn HTML4, CSS2 and JS ES4 where I started programming more and more.
And apart from the high school course and uni it was mostly self-direction that got me to know how to program and code. -
Just asked our devops guy to create 2 environments for 2 repos (BE and FE). He said this would take around 10h. Is this normal? Nothing fancy just a NestJS API and a React FE. It’s in AWS.8

I need a CV for a small non important side job. Do i need a fancy shmancy CV or can i go with just the most important informations propely formated in a simple word document? I think simplicity is crutial. I have pretty high qualifications so they should hire me for that if nobodt better arrives.8
