Bored, stuck in a long ass meeting. When suddenly someone brings up the program I made. People start complementing it.
Today's gonna be a good day.4 -
“Start your own company” they said
“It will be fun” they said
“You’ll be your own boss” they said
Idiots forgot to mention how hard it would be. Late nights, early mornings. Client searching...
It’s all good though, locked down three well paying clients today. Drinks on me 😎8 -
YOUTUBE HAS A DARK THEME?
How long has this been going on and why didn't I know about it? In all cases, I just turned it on and it seems like the start of a good day.14 -
need a good idea for app or game? follow this quick guide.
1. prepare a notebook.
2. prepare a pen.
3. go to toilet.
4. start writing the ideas.
5. make millions.13 -
As much as I hate sport and love sitting at home at my pc
I'm gonna try to run a bit every day
I mean, it's told to be good for you
(so far, I started running around the "block" 2 times, I don't think it counts as much, but hey, gotta start somewhere)27 -
10 more days at my current job.
then: 4 weeks off to rest and get my side projects online.
then: start my new job.
life is good sometimes3 -
Start a new job.
It is amazing.
What, you will not pay my JetBrains? Ugh... cheap boss.
Do you call this scrum?
Now I need to build this dumbass feature.
Wait, all the seasoned people are leaving?
Why did I choose this place at first?
Linkedin.
Interview.
This sounds awesome.
Good salary.
Bye guys.
Start a new job...8 -
Learning a new language is like first time doing sex, it's hard at the beginning but when you start doing it right you just want more and more! :) good morning guys !!4
-
Too fast.
And it's not a good thing.
While we start to think that we get a hang of something, there is new thing coming out.
Result is nobody knowing anything well, nothing is developed properly.
Hardwares, languages, frameworks, methodologies. Everything is going too fast.
Or may be I'm just a slow sloth.14 -
Why the fuck do all these good fucking companies need that proven fucking 3 years of work fucking experience to join? You gotta fucking start somewhere11
-
!rant
Quite the opposite of a Rant actually. Very good day today! Had pancakes to start the day, finally got a second monitor for only 5 bucks - it is so much easier to program with live change monitoring!
And, I finally got my very own server rack :) just wanted to share!10 -
My computer science teacher is very sly: while you are working he stands right behind you for some time, so you start writing good code, functions for everything, perfect indentation... But you don't know if he is still behind you, and you're not brave enough to look back, so you write good code for the rest of the lesson.
What a good prof8 -
1.) Start a small business
2.) Complete my game
3.) Graduate
4.) Get a good University for Masters2 -
So I tried to start learning Spring 5
How the fuck do you guys do it? Holy shit.
30 seconds in:
"Spring really isn't hard, you start with this request handler interacting with a view parser..."
Alright, sounds good
2 minutes in:
"So in order to use SpringResponseDriverActionHandlerServiceRequesterService you'll need to import com.org.java.spring.util.driver.comagain.request.response.request.drivers and include this 37 level deep nested XML property and finally extend this abstract class and implement it over an iterable list with this specific annotation aaaaaaand.... Done"
> Hello, world!
"See, spring is easy!"11 -
There's nothing like getting a angry client calling at 9am about their site being broken because their shit for brains son was messing around with my PHP.
They were legit cursing at me about how unprofessional and shit i was. Good start to the day.6 -
Coding Guide:
wanna start coding?
it's very simple, just follow this steps!
1. prepare a notebook and pen.
2. choose a programming language you would like to learn.
3. find a nice site for study it, SoloLearn is a very good site, you can ask me in the comments for more.
4. start copying every code block and summary to the notebook.
5. don't worry about not understanding it yet.
6. finish copying at last 5 subjects.
7. start the course again, and follow the notebook.
8. do it few times, your mind will remember it.
now the hard part!
good job, you remember the basic, but don't know how to use it? well 1 more guide for it.
1. prepare a notebook and pen.
2. now, it's your time to teaching it!
3. try to explain the code in your words or language.
4. after few times your mind will remember all the necessary things about coding.
5. start to make little apps or even games.
enjoy =D
of course you need to coding every day for 1 hour+-3 -
- Go to sleep early
- Get up at 5-6
- Drink quality coffee
- Work at your desk not from the bed or couch
- Don't start new projects until the last one is done
- Have a good and healthy diet
- Excercise frequently
Essentially don't be like me... Be like anyone else but me and you'll do fine...15 -
>be me
>drop out of uni studying civil engineering
>"self-taught" "web programmer"
>start freelancing in 2010
>Make money, feels good man
>clients keep me busy, feel important
>Code just for the fun of it
>be 2019. Married, code to make ends meet
>lose all interest
>mere sight of the ide makes me want to bash the screen
>have zero motivation
>never get any projects done
>become broke af
>look at old friends on fb. They are "Something".
>look at real software engineers and programmers with education
>realize I am an imposter
>start dropping all projects and studying theory
>become more broke
>start taking "motivation pills" to just start working again
>lose all motivation and pissed at all the real programmers and engineers for their success
>be me on May 20, 2019 at 2:56 AM
Yep, this is the end.29 -
Hello devRant world, from Stockholm!
I've been lurking around for a while now and feel time has come to open up and start contributing :)
Thank you for being there and for lifting our spirits up, through good and dark times, equally.

I'm planning on making a start-up. The brand name will be 'Void'. And motto:l is 'Because Nothing is Better Than Something'. I'm not kidding.
Just want to know if that's a good idea 😂😂10 -
I closed the lid of my laptop and went for a lunch. When I came back the damn machine wouldn't start and I realised I didn't push anything to github today so wish me luck recovering data from the drive.
(At least lunch was good.)6 -
Taking a class on Android Development. I'm mostly teaching myself here. But it's fun to start diving into the world of designing apps. Here's a picture of my current app. It's not much but it's a good start I think13
-
The "guy who is good with computers" can't open a fucking .rar or start skype. Yeah sure dude, you're like the best at "computer stuff". Fucking morons.3
-
I'd tend to say Matlab :
- you don't learn to write good code
- if you start by learning Matlab, you tend to be stuck in Matlab
- it's heavy and ugly and expensive
- arrays start at 18 -
I start with the features I want for sure and then i start looking at what data I really really need to store. Then I start looking at what data I don't have to store because of privacy reasons anyways.
Next stop is looking at the security.
When that all looks good, I simply start programming!5 -
var date = new Date();
var month = date.getMonth();
console.log(month); // 2
who thought it would be a good idea to start the months of at 0 rather then 111 -
My headphones just died because the battery is empty!
Not a good start!
I forgot the cable at home!
Bye bye peace, productivity, and focus6 -
I think I should start mentioning my devrant id in my resume.
Just a thought, my points will prove that atleast I have good sense of humor :D2 -
That moment when you as a junior developer is trying to write good, maintainable code and a more senior developer stops by and says "It's too late to start adding good code. I'll help you quick fix it".
-
Threaded API Calls, or rather:
How I killed five server instances in one shot..
Creating 50000 Threads sounds like a good idea in general, the bad part starts when you use start() in a for loop to run them all at once.
No further comments your honor...7 -
The year of 2018 is slowly coming to it end, so how about summing it up in a few keywords ?
I start : Bitcoin, Spectre/Meltdown, GDPR, Facebook-out-Linux-in, A.I., Elon Musk, Corporate fuckups(fb,g..), Cheap & Good smartphones
Just a few random ones, hope you come up with better summary:)15 -
A week ago I put in my two weeks at the current company I'm a Software Engineer at because it has been one of the worst places I have worked at and start work on July 5th at a new place as a Senior Software Engineer and have heard only good things about everything! Can't wait to start!!!!2

Building a wheel is great.
Building a steering wheel is also great
Building a brakes pedal is amazing.
Making them work asynchronously - not that good of an idea is it...
Who the fuck thought separating data stream (copying bytes) from stream control (when does the stream start/end) is a good idea...?
- open a connection
- send data to the stream
- send() returns
- close the connection
Apparently, the send() does not copy the data and returns. Instead, it enqueues the data copying task end returns. When does the actual copying start? IDK. When does it end? IDK. Can I close the conn? NO!
This thing is UNUSABLE. And I'd riddle it with reflection-based workarounds if it weren't for the static methods.
Fuck!3 -
That awkward moment, when u watch last episode first and believe it to be the first episode..
Thank you "Order by Name".
Aptly named - "Alpha and omega". Gonna be my beginning and end episode 😂5 -
*About to start an important call with the client*
Neighborhood dogs: "Now is a good time for us to start barking for no reason"3 -
Anyone ever run across some code that was so succinct and elegant, that you couldn't imagine ever doing something like that and start to feel bad?
<Look up who committed it>
Oh, well, damn... I used to be so good at this coding thing. -
Finally getting a raise. 90% salary increase, feels good.
Feels like I can finally start saving for a home and stuff. Too scared of STDs to blow it in hookers so nothing left but investment and savings.
Also messed up and posted as a question.2 -
So I always start learning JS frameworks and end up getting confused by their syntax among other things. Do you guys know of any good websites to learn vanilla JS? My problem is that I probably don't know enough of vanilla and end up getting flustered.11

Hey guys, sorry for disappearing... I haven't been in my good days lately.
Other than that... two days ago I said fuck you to my burn out, got tired of doing nothing and start job hunting.
Yesterday I've sent 3 e-mails.
Today I got phone calls for 2 Interviews.
That's the good part of being good at a specialized job :D1 -
“Hi - we’ve done an analysis of the front end codebase and we’ve determined that it would be a good idea to start using Bootstrap. Are there any concerns with this?”
“Hey - no concerns, we actually already use Bootstrap in all those places.”
“I was not aware. So you’re saying there are concerns?”3 -
Why do theoretical computer science and maths lectures mostly start at 8 am. I am a nocturnal creature to me is like having to wake up at 3 am for others. There are other kinds of people that like to get up early so here is a suggestion: Why don't we agree that all lectures start at 11:00 earliest? It is a good time in the day for a lot of people and I would have the time to inject myself with some Mate tea.8

Instead of spending time to configure the billions of things for React, I have decided to start my new project with the good ol’ Jquery. Some might disagree, but I want to get a working prototype first.9

Tips for a good rant:

How to write a good rant:

After 4 weeks of no coding i start slowly missing it. especially when i'm reading dev rant 😁
Got some time for myself to upgrading elzdev 2.9 to elzdev 3.0
I can highly recommend you to do something good for yourself and spend some time alone with no work.
I chose Barcelona for one month 😍
And now i can't wait to start work again at the begining of november 😄4 -
Fuck it.
If Torvalds completely steps down and shit starts to absolutely suck in our beloved kernel then it might be high time to start paying close attention to Minix or Hurd :P options peeps. Options are good.4 -
Never ask "How to start with X?". It's a dumb open-ended question with vague open-ended solutions.
Rather ask "I'm at X, want to do Y, I have Z proposed solution. Does that sound good?"
Builds context, focusses on action and is more efficient.2 -
Have to do a jee project without any knowledge in java, in 2 weeks.
Why ? My classmates put me in a group when i wasn't here, of course they know nothing and are not going to code..
Fuckkkkkk you!
Well, any advice with jee ? Where should i start to get a good grade x)9 -
Welp, talk about good timing. Got my stickers today, good start already to the new year. Thanks @dfox and @trogus3
-
Cause heaps of YouTube tutorials are crap nowadays, I’d like to collect your favorites here. And when you are in need look up good channels here.
I’ll start with mine:
Jacob Sorber (C / Unix)
Creel (general low level stuff)
The Cherno (C++)8 -
Any other 30+ year old developer that didn't start the dev career too long ago and gets completely depressed when surfing on Quora? Reading 100 about "developer career being over after 30" when mine started at 29 isn't too good a motivation23

Oohoo!! Seems like we solved a good problem and helped many others.
Sharing the link to this project if anyone of you is interested.

Good start to Monday morning it seems.2 -
My team lead is so good at task delegation that I suspect she’s going to start delegating the task delegation to us soon.2
-
Last year I planned to start a startup. I've started many good things but not the startup yet.
* A new data format
* A new data type
* A new web framework
* A new concept for logging
* And many other opensource tools and libraries2 -
I have an interview today, my socks are actually matching today, so im off to a good start I suppose. XP5
-
Breakfast && software engineering daily podcast && admiring my new stickers == a good start to the day
Thanks DevRant! -
Historically I've done Java but have recently moved to C# and got the book to do a cert.
Who thought it would be a good idea to start chapter 1 with threads, concurrency, asynchronous calls and PLINQ, then covering boolean expressions, if statements and loops in the section after??6 -
When you don't know if you should start a developer tutorial channel. I have a good mic, 4 years dev experience and good editing skill. Should i?10
-
Not learning unit testing... I've heard so many good things about them, but I've never learned how to inple.e t and use them.
Maybe I can start now, can anyone point me in the write direction?4 -

I just stumbled upon a first game I ever programmed back in highschool. Oh the nostalgia and the urge to cringe. Apparently I thought programing a game in visual basic and leaving an enormus memory leak was a good idea. Well I guess you have to start somewhere.3 -
Ensure IDE has latest updates. Put on headphones. Start music (exact playlist depends on mood and location). And we're good to go.1

Start the weekend looking forward to making good progress on home projects, only to find something unrelated which stops you doing a project, by the time that's resolved you have lost the will to spend more time at the computer..... How do you get past it?4

Designed and written > 1.3k lines of code this week and 98% test coverage..
CI and CD set up and working..
Was a Long week and very exhausting but I feel really good now, happy to start the weekend with whiskey and beer.
This is gonna be one of my most productive sprints so far..
Hope you all had a successful week as well.
Happy Friday 🍻
And please don’t start with any „that’s nothing, I’ve written 5k lines ones“ comments.. It‘s professional, stable, optimized code and code I can actually be proud of.4 -
*opens the code of an old project still running today*
*see the horror spaghetti code*
*decide to modernize it with good code and practices learned by the years*
*can fucking decide where to start *
*réalise it is impossible *
*rewrite it from scratch in a few hours*
*be proud*
It's really rewarding to go back to old projects and give them a good hug. You réalise then you really got better5 -
Fuck, fucking cock sucking stupid ass prick of a little black box, why, why the fuck do you not fucking boot any more, all you have to do is fucking boot but no, that's to much for you to fucking do!
Ah well, good thing it's only a Rpi!
It had a good life, now to wipe the card and start again! Irant no longer accepts keyboard input always on corrupt boot eject and reimage this old girl. rpi fuck it1 -
Web Assembly and Dotnet Blazor. Finaly other languages will become aviable on the frontend, dotnet blazor is a good start for C#1

Ever finish a project, feel fulfilled for a hot minute, then feel like you're still not as good as you thought you were and instantly start hacking away again?
This has been my cycle for the past 2 months.1 -
1st week of doing proj: "hello there sexy, u are gonna one beautiful project. ill be doing all my best to finish you and you may actually one of my best projects."
after a month: "aaaaa ERRORS EVerywhere, tf is wrong with u. imma start another project if u dont start running properly like i planned"
after another month: *procrastinates while debugging* "yaass it works now, lets finish u baby"
takes some time to finish projects but if theyre really good, i usually finish them, especially when i am motivated and full of determination.2 -
I start my first mid level dev job tomorrow after securing a job on a 10k pay increase. Feels good man,my junior days are over ^=^2
-
I have job interviews at two different companies tomorrow at the same time. Can't postpone either. One is at a start-up that has super negative reviews but good pay. Other is at Amazon but has requirements half I don't even understand. It's not long before I pluck all my hair out in confusion.2
-
Has it ever happened to someone that when you start working on a project, the clients requirements are as good as a tricycle but one month into project and somehow the project has turned into a water fuelled tricycle powered by developers tears 😐

Don't try to learn *everything* before you start, you'll learn as you go.
Theory is all good until something stops working or spits out an unexpected value, so learn to debug properly! -
New on HS Robotics team (we went to worlds last year —> we’re good). I come from France.
The lead programmer say that we are gonna stop coding the robot in Java and start C++ this year, so naturally I’m excited!
Lead programmer just told us we’re actually staying with Java... fuck.4 -
So excited about this beast... wish I had a model f... but this will suffice for now.. definitely going to start collecting older stuff. As an embedded software engineer working on AI projects and such give you a good reference point of what was possible in the day with less13

Animator for 15+ years. Started self learning python a few months back. I made my first useful app today... Move the cursor every 10 seconds. 2019 is off to a good start.
I'm new to programming but I already love devRant.
Happy New Year everyone! 😀5 -
About to start my first ever freelance job. The problem is I think I've overestimated myself and under quoted for the project.
Hoping for the best and I'm any case, this will be a good experience in terms of learning about the freelance world right?3 -

It's not a good start for today. I'm sipping my breakfast coffee at my house at 10:13. I just couldn't drag my ass out of bed this morning. I turn off all my alarms and just stayed under the blanket. Winter is my enemy.
Hope I will work with good focus later when I get to office. -
Whoever the fuck in windows decided it is a good idea to start doing a 24h+ repair on an external hard drive which doesnt even have the OS, on boot, should burn in hell.
God. I cant handle windows and its stupidity even for the 1 hr i use it to play games.19 -
Just completed learning HTML from Jon duckett book! Feel so good. Wanted to learn coding so long. And I finally start. Starting CSS very soon. It's my first rant !! Reading rant almost more then 4 months from diff. Account. Just a newbie here. Saying everyone Hi😊 Doing #100daysofcoding !1

It's not such a good way to disconnect from work to hang out with friends, drink too much, and start coding Python in the sand of a park.1
-
Oh where to start.
TLDR, *actually* prepare students for the *real world*.
- TEACH GIT.
- Stop with the useless projects with esoteric restrictions that absolutely do not exist in the software work field
- ENCOURAGE collaboration rather than make it academic dishonesty with high punishment consequences. Devs need to learn Teamwork!!
- Don't start 101 with Python then go straight to C++ in 102
....
good lord, the easier question is what DOESN'T need to change in CS undergrad programs. -
If you start coding in Python3, don't use both tabs and spaces. Just decide for one. It'll save you a good amount of time on bigger projects 😉2
-
What the heck is wrong with these recruiters? You have a good facebook group with rules that states not to post ads or job listings. How to manage when you start something good for you, start taking decisions for your good and people start spreading hate about you. It obviously will effects your mental health right?
How you guys manage it? I mean how?
Today I'm feeling of getting bullied and getting bullied again from the same person. I'm correct but can't show the correctness just because there's no proof I've in-hand.
I'm literally tired of people now!4 -
So this is the case I have not coded in a long while and was actually starting to miss it. I was LITRALLY considiring starting to code again, then i went on devrant and read about two rants and you know what? Im good i dont wanna start code again3

Title: The problem with "good enough" code
Body:
I'm a software developer, and I've seen my fair share of "good enough" code. You know the kind of code I'm talking about: it works, but it's not pretty, and it's not very maintainable.
The problem with "good enough" code is that it's a slippery slope. Once you start writing "good enough" code, it's easy to fall into the trap of always taking the easy way out.
Before you know it, your code is a mess of hacks and workarounds. It's hard to understand, it's hard to maintain, and it's a nightmare to debug.
I've seen projects go down in flames because of "good enough" code. The code was so bad that it was impossible to fix, and the project had to be scrapped.
I'm not saying that you should never write "good enough" code. Sometimes, you just need to get something working, and you don't have the time or resources to do it perfectly.
But if you're going to write "good enough" code, you need to be aware of the risks. And you need to make sure that you're only writing "good enough" code for a short period of time.
Once you have a working prototype, you need to start refactoring your code and making it better. You need to make it more readable, more maintainable, and more testable.
If you don't, you'll eventually regret it. Your code will become a liability, and it will hold you back.
So next time you're tempted to write "good enough" code, think twice. It might save you some time in the short term, but it will cost you in the long run.7 -
48 hours hackathon, Before 20 min everything working good and fine. Finishing touch and everything breaks. Finally, fixed 5 min prior to presentation start. Panicked to toes, were asked to present first. Result: Runners up. Hell yeah.

Looking for platform specific language options for a new project at work and reading articles from well known sources.
If you start your article with something like, "when I think of a good programming language, I think of JavaScript", I'm going to punch out of your shitty opinion faster than an async function.
When you're trying to convey an unbiased message you generally don't start with, "I'm an absolute shill for {language}".
What the fuck happened to journalistic integrity?7 -
Any advice on some good SQL book or resources?
I need to start learning DB designing and theory.

Man, you start doing computer graphics you really get an appreciation for nature
Like "got dayum, god got some good ass graphics, no way I can compete with that"6 -
All my resolutions:
- Finish my fully FOSS gamedev workflow and start working on my game by March, have a concept demo by May when my matura exams come round.
- Do good on said exams and get into a good university.
- Do some political or social activism
- Learn the guitar to a campfire level
- Drink til I pass out if trump wins again.
- Make close friends with at least 10 new people
- Go on at least 6 dates2 -
I take a task, break it down in smaller tasks which can be done in one day, more if some problem came. But let's say if it finishes within a day and I have free time, I don't start the next thing instead I feel good that I'm done. Is it only me? 🙄2

Does someone here have experience with "freelancing"? I heard about it and the little I was able to find sounded promising, but I have no idea where to start, if it's good, how to get more information, etc.5

Are there any developers out there interested to start a repo on GitHub, we build something cool for fun(also good for sparring)?12

1 year a go i took angular js 1 tutorials and I was good at it then . I start working with c# and asp a lot. And when I started learning angularjs 4 it was like learning another language WTF9

!rant
So I started learning Golang.
I have to say, I heard the language was good but holy shit!
I got my eye on you implicit interface implementation👀👀
I can't wait to start my first project with a clusterfuck of compositions 🤤
P.s: syntax is kinda weird ¯\_(ツ)_/¯6 -
Is it a good idea to start learning Python? I'm a PHP dev but I really want to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. Moreover, I think as a PHP dev, I don't really have a future.4

Hello devs. This happens to be my first rant. And I got a question to start off.
I'm looking for an existing public/open-source React project which is not too hard to understand and has a good folder/file structure and code structure. Something that gives me an idea of how a good production level code and project should be.
Any recommendation is appreciated. Can be your own project too.
Thank you 😊.10 -
Wrote a REALLY bad, simple java method to generate the repetitive parts of c# classes
Now I’m curious about good code generation methods. How I probably should’ve done this
Think I could get some advice and links on how to start learning to write simple code generators?9 -
Dev bootcamps? I went to one! Probably the best decision I ever made.
They aren't perfect, they're pricey, and they won't make you an expert, but it's a good way to expedite a new career, gives a good base knowledge to start out. -
C# developers!
Anyone knows a good source to start reading about C# 7's syntax (not only "what's new")? Sometimes it feels like the language specific tools that I know are not enough.
P.S. Can't find it in msdn language reference or guide.
Please share.3 -
Feeling good , finally got the time to start on my side-project that has mentally occupied my mind for a while. Let the code out 😊1

I genuinely start off with good intentions for the client by trying to create a simple responsive website for them. What they want on the other hand is fancy images.3

co-op integration, day 1: after 3 hours we decided to postpone all coding until day 2 since we found 8 product open issues and 5 architecture open issues. Also, the other company has a critical deployment problem that needs addressing. good start...

I failed...
I give up...
Just going to go back to being selfish now... trying to change others and rally support just ain't my thing and isn't worth my time or energy.

A.I. steals my job?
I guess the I.T. guy fixing things up is a good option.
In the mean time the A.I. will learn about devRant and start ranting about things we messed up. He will then lose faith and resign from continuing.
Gets the job back. -
At what point did IT stop focusing on outcomes and start putting all energy into rhetoric? I feel like every IT department is “all show” and “no go” these days. If after 5 years your idea keeps blowing everything up in production, it wasn’t a good idea, regardless of how many buzz words you’ve implemented.9

(How far) Do you see a future where one of Linux's distros gets a good enough user experience that average people start using it?
My partner has been using Ubuntu in one of her side-computers and they haven't complained. That said, my partner is pretty technologically literate, although they don't code professionally.35 -
Finding a good Linux distro, part 3:
I am happy now. KDE Neon running very smoothly and...now you certainly will not believe me, but with least memory. 400MB of RAM after start up. That is stunning! Stock Ubuntu runs about 800-900MB on the same machine, holy shit!3 -
So on top of having way too many hats at work and starting my master’s studies in a few weeks, I just had an idea for a game that’s too good to not start working on. I am drowning myself in shit to do. Again.

I made a serious mistake that is to start directly a programming language without mastering the algorithms, because finally, without a good knowledge of Algorithms we will never be innovative in this field, that's why I reinitialize myself and I take a step backwards to start the algorithms right and master them well.
Your advices please. -
BT "We'll give you BT Virus Protect, which protects against viruses, phishing and other online attacks."
Or... For a start, let your users provide a good secure password when signing up? More than 8 characters is a bit ambiguous. 20 minutes later and several attempts to find out it can't be longer than 20 characters, only upper and lower case letter and numbers aaaand must start with a letter is a bit s**t. Not to mention LatPass doesn't like it as you can't copy and paste.1 -

Thinking about perhaps doing a Linux From Scratch. Never done anything like it but feels like it would be a good way to learn more about how Linux actually works. where should I start, having something different to work on weekly, being able to work from home, alot of income possibilities, can easily start your own businesses, compared to other jobs a good community, if there isn't something you want made you can make it, and if you can think of an idea for a website or program you can make it.

So I feel confident at least in my front end development skills to maybe start freelancing in the near future. Does anybody have any good recommendations for where to start? How to draw in remote clients? Etc. I honestly dont know the first thing about remote work other than what I've researched.2

When you think you finally know a programming language really well but then you start a project and want to do it all on your own but you dont even know what to do... so basically I'm dependant on tutorials and Google.. until I am good enough to do it on my own..

The moment, when you just about start a demo on your project and the code is not working at all, is pretty awkward. What makes it worse is that even the master branch is useless. The good thing is that noone noticed it, since the demod feature worked well.1

Dependency injection and RX java and all are cool.
But I like to do good object oriented programming.
And now there are kids in start ups who see devs doing good object oriented programming as retards.
Android as a platform provides everything that you need. Why abuse a simple app with all fancy stuff when you can accomplish stuff with simple oops which takes the same amount of time ?
Am I the one feeling this way ? -
I knew I was good in all my computer related subjects (despite being a business major) but never thought html taught in high school stayed in my stored knowledge longer than I imagined until my friend asked me to help him on a project: developing a website. And that was the start of my dev life

I was like 11/12 y/o when I encountered this site : http://ecole-art-aix.fr/rubrique81....
It's a French design university's Processing course. I don't remember how I got there, but I guess Internet had a pretty good influence on me then. However, as I had not learned about variables in math classes yet it was a pretty tough bite for me, so I didn't finish it but it was a good start for me -

Do you have a good use case to start learning kubernetes using the 300$ Google cloud startup bonus?
I need to build up knowledge because my work doesn't do it, so it could be either docker, or kubernetes. Both has to be done in a cloud platform because I have to do this in my spare time...
So do you have use cases and tasks for someone who's completely new to kubernetes? Or should I start with docker?5 -

Just need a bit of advice here.
Background: I'm good with backend web development. Won't say I'm really good, but yeah, I've done it quite a bit and built few sites locally.
At this point, I wanna know if I should continue learning and get really good with PHP (maybe get certifications). Or, start learning Python and try frameworks like Django or Flask. Also, this coming summer, I wanna do some kinda internship but before that I need to be good with something.
Some advice would help :D
Thanks and happy new year!3 -
When you download whole SDK, install lots of dependencies. Setup everything. And the moment you want to start working, your internet stop working. I would consider that a sign from a good but too bad, I am atheist.

Hey, I'm new here, this is my first post and I want to start asking:

Context: at my current job I work as a product photographer as well as studio admin. On side I go online to different brands websites in search for product images (if we haven't the product in store yet).
Now the banger, I searched for some peacoat colored pants but the brand didn't put it out yet. Pulling out some Super AI hacks I changed some stuff and things in the URL (color ID + small amount of ?doThisAndThatPhP) and... BOOM result! Right color, high Res image. The Color isn't searchable or shown via Google or the brands page, but the image is already on their server 🤔*yoinking the image*
Just wanted to share it with you guys 👌 none at my coworkers speak computer 😔

My family thinks that I'm extremely addicted to computers and devices, and that I care more about machines than people.

"Ultimate" success for a dev?
I don't know what that would be, so I'll be answering that around my experience.
Start really poor, so when you start making good money, you value and appreciate it.
Work for a company (Startup/MNC doesn't matter), and build your network with people/clients.
Work really hard in the beginning era and fail as much as possible.
Quit said company and build your own client-base, cutting the middle men out of the equation.
Work on your terms after that, remotely obviously.
Years down the line, come up with your own idea and start a company which makes enough money to retire with ease, not worrying about saving up for retirement. -
I kinda want to expand my repertoire with some web development skills. I already know some front end .net. What do you suggest I start with? I heard someone say react+PHP is a good combo3

Start my internship at ‘around 11:00’ today. That’s how it was put by the owner. The company doesn’t have an office so they meet in the home theatre of a mansion twice a week. Across from the indoor basketball court and ping-pong room.
If it’s not a real company, experience still looks good on a resume right?1 -

Why the fuck did Apple just start testing my app using an ipv6 only network? I mean that is a good idea in general, but did they just start doing this recently, or did a major appledick decide that now, after 15 good releases, they should reject the app and force me to rethink my whole backend structure... Screw you, why didn't you tell me when I started?2

What is a good start in go?
My wife wants to upgrade her coding skills from „I heard it at college“ to „I actually did something with it“.
I want to learn Go and start coding a bit more. My background is mostly C++ (Backend) and a bit Java (Fronted) some years ago before I went more into testing. For test automation I always use the language that makes the project happy, often Java.
We want want to join forces now, take a vacation and implement a small microservice in Go for my wife’s product (she is a PO) using pair programming.
I want to prepare that a bit. What is a good course or web tutorial to start, that some of you took and can recommend?

So, I was call to be phone-interviewed at a company that I kinda liked.
They were looking for a full-stack developer.
I'm more of a back-end but I'm not blind to some front-end things, but I'm not expert to any front-end framework or technology.
I'm pretty good with Java and Python, and have 8+ years of experience.
The thing is, they were looking someone like me BUT also with React and JS knowledge. So it was a bye bye for me.
That made me start thinking: Should I start learning a framework and become a full-stack developer?
Which framework would be a good one to start with?
(I've made a couple of native Android apps, and once I tried to learn React-Native but I couldn't last more than two weeks with it).7 -
Microsoft is SLOWING down Visual 2019 on purpose now... that's insane.

Good thing, have a supportive team for sure. -

I usually start with a sketch on my phone ( Thankfully, I use a Note device, which comes really handy ), make the data structures, Look for available resources, choose the language/library/framework to build with, discuss with some of my friends if they think its a good idea, if they do if they want to become its first customers, & after that I start coding and showing to my friends & get feedback & keep going until I publish it for masses

c# AutoMapper is SOSO good.. On paper...
Once you start using and thre is couple of levels of inheritance involved, it turns to shit.
Searched for fucking 5 hours a problem... Only to find "Oh yeah in this case you need to manually map properties"
Fuck you
JsonConvert.Deserialize(JsonConvert.Serialize(myShit)) it is4 -
I have an idea I need to get out of my head but am not sure where to start. I want to figure out a good way to learn about real-time water simulation. I’m looking at either OpenGL, or Openframeworks, or Cinder. I have basic experience with c++ and a bit less with OpenGL but am not worried about learning. Could someone point me in the right direction? Andy good resources to learn or just general advice would be greatly appreciated.4

I want to pick up a text editor to learn.
Should I learn Vim or Emacs?
Note: I don't want there to be a war between the 2 sides. I simply want your opinion on what you think should be a good start for a college CS student like me.8 -
Two words: drink coffee.
Besides that, a good playlist with non-vocal music, and a clear head. If I am excited about some other aspect in my life, I have little desire to code that day. I find it easiest when I start thinking about how to resolve a particular issue. -
Is LinkedIn actually any good?
Never used it and now that I'm a few months away from graduation I might just start. devRant is usually straight to the point about these things, what do I get out of bothering to use it?8 -

My ambition to learn is too much for my own good. I have so much desire to learn and get going that I'm all over the place reading bits and pieces cause I can't seem to get my foot in the door and figure out where to start from the very very beginning to figure out how to start actually learning to code.

I think I'm supposed to start this with some kind of no rant tag, but I've never been good at following the rules. I just watched the first episode of the third season of Rick and Morty. Best ep I've watched yet!
That is all, go write some awesome code.2
