Very useful!
It's not just about code but the whole package.
Watching great programmers fail miserably at project management, research, documentation, team leading and acting professional is just embarrassing, especially when they slate those who went out to educate themselves.
🎙️ Mic drop, I'm out!2 -
Another company wide meeting full of BJs, but not a single mention.
I'll get back into my dark corner and be quiet.5 -
Imposer Syndrome
Something we may encounter at somepoint in our careers. I've been reading a few articles after feeling some of the effects of this yet none seem to offer helpful solutions.
Has anyone got any advice or good tip that's helped them in the past?2 -
Why is it acceptable for dev think it's ok to skip testing? WHY?
Today i was told that a co-worker had good enough judgment when it comes to CSS if it will break in other browsers other than chrome. I'd accept that if they knew the browsers inside out and read all the release docs but no, not them. Even more so when it's not their field of expertise.
After working for 2+ years at the some company, with a QA team, it's become evident no one does any proper testing, even the friking QA team!
I'm close to define the supported browsers as "What ever the developer used at the time of build".
Am I really the only Dev to test in at least 2 other browsers? -
Finding that you can disable users from changing their Win desktop background picture in the Registry.
Endless hours of fun and amusement and a great way to teach employees that we have an ISO to abide by.3 -
Overhears colleague say 'Ohh there's a plugin for that'. Few weeks later i find the dumb fuck added it to the codebase and not use the dependency manager. I'd happily shoot the senior Dev who peer reviewed it but looks like this pleb merged straight in!
With a codebase overflowing with duplicate frameworks and unused jquery plugins I'll be burning the god damn place down come next week!2 -
BT "We'll give you BT Virus Protect, which protects against viruses, phishing and other online attacks."
Or... For a start, let your users provide a good secure password when signing up? More than 8 characters is a bit ambiguous. 20 minutes later and several attempts to find out it can't be longer than 20 characters, only upper and lower case letter and numbers aaaand must start with a letter is a bit s**t. Not to mention LatPass doesn't like it as you can't copy and paste.1 -
Having to remind myself during each morning stand up that i get paid not to murder my co-workers.
It's about time management need reminding that i need a pay rise. -
'It's just...' is the biggest lie any co-dev can give you!
If it's just a small change why don't they do the god damn work and spend the next 2 days wading through an undocumented shit storm.
Next person to say 'It's just x, y & x', that ticket will be going up their tail pipe sideways! -
'Job requires 5 years of commercial development experience'
So in other words, we are after someone who knows that every software company goes to the dog after x amount of years and that inevitably all the developers become inhuman code jockeys.
Back to the cupboard I go!
