I wanted to screenshot some of the birthday wishes that were printed for me on the discord server early this morning but they're spread too much, thanks anyway! That was very cute of you all. Only people from devRant actually bothered to wish me a Happy Birthday this early (maybe I influenced it a little bit ... 😂) But it's true
Everyone remember that ThatDude's Birthday is on January 28th 😉16 -
For a developer 07:23 AM does not always mean early morning, it can also mean super late night coding ;)
-
God dammit ... Gf said I should go "early" to bed and not like last night at 3 am. Now it's 4:20 am...7

this got me into programming, when I saw it during a school function in early 90s. wow there is a whole world inside this...

Things that give me chills early in the morning. A password reset email that contains my password in plain text.
Seriously! 🤦♂️1 -
I just asked the project manager if I could go home early because I'm feeling down.
How can I ever quit after she sympathetically said yes?3 -

In Yellowstone to see the eclipse!
No break for me today though, I've got dumb clients to deal with, and I had to wake up at 5am to do a conference call.3 -

A lot of people woke up "early" today (7:30am) just to preorder the new Xbox and brag about it...
I wake up at 5:30am each fucking morning and there is no console release. 😑9 -
Who did you guys inherit your programming skills from?
Neither of my parents are skilled with computers, and my dad can barely turn them on. My grandfather was an IBM programmer, but he died before I was ever interested in computers. While he didn't have time to physically get me interested in them, I think that's how it got into my blood.24 -
no matter how late you stay up working on a project (4-5am), you know you still have to wake up with a broken body to get to work5
-
So I reach office early , bcz I like to have sun left when I go home.
Other devs arrive almost 3-4 hours after me. And when it's time to leave,
They : you leave so early
Me : yes you ahole. I come early too.
And then they get credits for staying long I'm like yeah if you come at 12-1 you have to stay back.
So fucking frustrating.7 -
Wife asleep early, getting a great dose of Battlefield, maybe I can finally finish the last bits of my app tonight! 😮

I just watched a talk given by Ryan Dahl, highlighting what he considers to be some early design mistakes with Node:
- Removed early version of Promises
- Not sandboxed by default
- GYP compiler
- package.json
- node_modules
- require() without extension
- index.js by default
https://youtube.com/watch/...
Also, his new project Deno sounds like Node 2.0. Interesting!4 -

When you try to sleep in because you had a long night, but that one flatmate you explicitly told to try to be quieter can't do exactly that...
When you are a programmer and a night owl and your flatmate always goes to sleep early and stands up early...
Why can't everybody be a night owl :D -
Is it just me or do you guys sometimes go like "Ah fuck it, haven't had a good night's sleep in so long, I guess I should sleep early tonight" and then you look at your watch and its already late?
God what I would give to get up early for once.7 -
when you see devs with age <= 16 who look experienced than you and you say to yourself
"Where the fuck have I spent my early life"3 -
Why do theoretical computer science and maths lectures mostly start at 8 am. I am a nocturnal creature to me is like having to wake up at 3 am for others. There are other kinds of people that like to get up early so here is a suggestion: Why don't we agree that all lectures start at 11:00 earliest? It is a good time in the day for a lot of people and I would have the time to inject myself with some Mate tea.8
-
Have you guys tried the 'recent' rants tab?
It's like going back to the early days of devrant when it was unusual to see a rant over 100++ 😍6 -
You don’t hate X, you hate the word “X” because of a single bad experience with it on an early stage of your path.
You don’t know X because you banned it early and never learned it. The only thing you see is its bad part. Everything has its bad part.
The fact that X has bad apologists doesn’t mean that X itself is bad18 -
The sprint tasks are finished a week early. Spent half day sitting in my office and squeezing the stress ball.
Looking forward to get some more task tomorrow1 -

Woke up an hour early today.
I could get up and be at work early, so I can leave earlier to use the afternoon on this nice spring day.

- mid 2000: "I use it because it's a full ecosystem for mail and office and it's free"
- early 2010: "I use it because it integrates seamlessly with my phone"
- mid 2010: "I use it because it's at least better than the competition"

Why are companies so biased against employees those who come late and work late as compared to those who come early and leave early?
Why is it okay to leave early but not so much to come late instead?
After some of us ignored repeated warnings, we've been told that anyone come after 10:30am will be marked half day absent.
So, if they do so, I'll sit there in office playing Fifa or Table Tennis, and not work until the second half starts xD
The reason for such biasness is that the daily stand-up is at 10:30, even though more people wanted it to be after 11. They even took a vote. And yet it was ignored (funnily initially more ppl voted for 11 initially and somehow some of the votes changed for in favor of 10am... Now slowly, because half the team wouldn't be on time, it's shifted to 10:30am.
And funnily, I'm already serving notice period in this company.7 -
People are up doing tequila sunrise and getting smashed in the early mornings. And I'm over here happy to be working on some code.4

When I started, in the early 80's, there was no internet, and books related to programming were hard to come by, so everything had to be learned by going to the library, or reading the manual that came with the compiler. Finally, in the early 90's, I got to attend programmer training in the Air Force. My first successful program was a D&D character generator.5

I know nothin Jon Snow!2 -
I find coding very early in the morning and sleeping early at night very effective in terms of productivity compared to pulling an all-nighter and lose cognitive functions. I've finished a weeks worth of coding in 2 days! and I don't feel so groggy throughout the day.1

Bring Word Art into the 21st century. Most of early computer training hinged on the use of Word Art.

So happy!
I made my first project (or at least started) using my iPad (with some help from my laptop).
I am trying to make it possible for web comic artists to upload their comics without any text in the speech bubbles and then load the text using javascript for the specific locale.
It’s in an early stage (a few hour old) and the editor and the viewer share data only with cookies and local storage instead of a server but it's still a concept.
What do you think?

Have to wake up at 7am to be at the office at 9am. This is kind of the main hate about my job. Am I picky?8

Create your own deadlines.
With your deadline, you work more hard and if you end early, you get that free time (or you have time for emergencies).1 -
Couple of questions? What's to late to stay up coding or what's to early to start coding in the day?

Have any early adopters tried out the new Deno yet? If you have, what are your thoughts?
https://github.com/denoland/deno2 -
Advent of code is a bit crap this year. These early problems aren't hard per-se, they're just annoyingly time consuming for early day problems.
-
What a day. I was cleaning up some of my styling tweaks for this react app; removing superfluous rules, nailing some hard to pin alignments that have been off up until now, and removing unused files and code in general.
I managed to delete an entire folder. I'm not sure how I did it, but apparently I had highlighted the folder when wanting to just delete one file via vs code. This was hours of uncommitted (yeah, my bad) tweaks and cleanup.
But - I still have the app loaded in my browser. I can't see the prebuilt source code, but I can see the compiled, raw main.chunk.js which gives me the exact code albeit not in the format I need.
So that's my day. Re-tweaking, re-adjusting everything while working my way down a compiled javascript file from top to bottom while explaining to my team why I haven't pushed my changes that I was just going to clean up.
Now I'm having a beer.3 -
When people write me at 5am on Slack or Skype, they think, how nice and organized my life is that I am getting up early. Truth is, I have not slept yet. Programmers never sleep they just check their eyelids from inside. It's easier to stay awake till 6am, than to wake up at 6am!2
