I was dressed up as an UDP packet for the Halloween. I don’t think anyone got it, but I couldn’t tell. #humour
Have a great Halloween :)4 -
Halloween joke, anyone?
"If you want a slutty costume for Halloween, you should go as my professor. He barely covers anything important" 😁9 -
For those that celebrate Halloween, and for those that can simply appreciate when being a dev IS life... :)11

Because Oct 31 equals Dec 25.

I work for a company that is 100% remote. Slack just went down. We're doomed, on Halloween of all days.3

Everyone is going to Halloween parties this weekend and I'm going to a Hack-a-thon. I think I I'm the real winner here.6

Weirdest co-worker... We'll not to be judgy, but I think our industry is sort of home of the weirdos, but.. there's a few over-the-top weirdees we've had at work.
First one that comes to mind was a guy that walked liked Mr. Burns, hands behind the back & chest out. He microwaved the same thing every single day for breakfast - crackers, sausage and cheese. 😖This guy would get to his tasks very slowly, wouldn't talk to anyone on our team, and would go missing from his desk a lot, sometimes for extended periods (2+ hours). He really struggled to catch on to easy tasks. He quit after a few months, thank god.
Another weirdo we had was a girl who just couldn't dress to save her soul. She would wear these ugly ass sneakers that had neon colors reminiscent of bowling shoes (neon orange and green) and would wear turtlenecks and floor length skirts that all the colors just clashed. Her outfits were uglier than your great grandma's. Myself, her and 2 other girls dressed up as the Dr. Seuss things for Halloween, but did h1, h2, etc. tags instead and she put like rope from curtains in her hair with like 10 little pony tails. Just like wtf. She would play her gameboy at lunch and not talk to anyone much. She was really bad at our job, a lot of clients complained. She would literally read a book, braid her bangs or nap at her desk. Needless to say, she was fired.6 -
Tomorrow Halloween is being celebrated in many nations as you might know. So we do in germany. Given that in Germany tomorrow is a national Holiday, the company skipped work today, with me being on call.
My On-Call time almost was over so I got ready to party (getting into my costume), not expecting any further calls.
I finished dressing up, still had some time, so I dug into coding a bit, as a costumer called. A customer from china. As I got told later on China does not celebrate Halloween in October and they do in another way.
So I set there, accepting the call, with my Camera set to autostart (Company policy).
Camera. On.
In. Costume.
As a monk.
With a bleach white face.
I was greeted by a man starring me "into the eyes". Took a good 1-3 secs til we bursted out in laugher. One of the funniest calls I had so far 😂 (and a short one, thanks China-Man)2 -
I want to get this fake axe: https://amazon.com/Realistic-woodcu...
I want to hang on my wall at work and label it:
"merge conflict resolution tool".
Is that too violent for a joke?9 -
I was going to be a wizard for Halloween, but since I am expected to perform magic year round at the request of clients, I might change it up for one night of the year.1

Halloween is coming so i made this constructed unicorn mask with a paper mache base with elwire. Does it require any coding skills nope, but i bet people are goin to be suprised that i know how to build wireframes and papermache !7

So I was out for Halloween last night, and there was a chick with a plain white Tee that said:
"Error 404: Costume not found."
Really wanted to talk to her about responses but I got the impression she didn't really know what 404 was, just that it was a meme7 -

What the fuck this fucking shit of an app supposedly went through five rounds of QA and I broke it in 5 minutes? Holy fucking shit How this is the main point of your job. You shitty shits take forever getting this PR to me and now it’s buggier than a haunted house on Halloween?
After this is after wanting to cuss Apple for making me update the os then then xcode then iTunes just to recognize the goddamn development phone. It’s an app built off Cordova it works for like 14 versions of iOS just run the bugger you over priced aluminum chassis dildo riding fruit Fuckers.
Now back to the goddamn cluster fuck I just got delivered. What the goddamn fuck. This level of bullshittery I have not seen before. And apparently Cordova is only partly de-sandboxed? I don’t know for sure because I don’t have time to test it because I’m running the entire technological stack of this company on a junior dev salary!
When you tell me it goes though all this QA and you spend 2 weeks on just QA tickets for fucks sake the first operation I do, the most common fucking operation on the app, the shit we have been building around all this fucking time, should not fucking error out. For fucks sake at least try to get the main fucking thing working. I recognize you did a lot of work and implemented a number of features but what the fuck good are they if I can’t even run them for one fucking time. -
Halloween reminds me of when I started my first tech job. It was a week before Halloween. I arrive for my first day. The front door that’s normally locked is wide open. It’s quiet. There’s caution tape everywhere. I think, “oh no, what happened?!” I debate whether I go inside or go to the lobby and ask security if they’re aware of a possible crime scene upstairs. I cautiously step inside and…everything is business as usual. It was all part of their Halloween decorations. I can laugh about it now, but I had quite a scare. 🎃

I told a guy I work with that I like his costume. He said he liked mine too. People that can take a friendly joke are awesome.
I told my kids that I am "Halloween Ready" all year long.3 -
Anyone ever heard this Google Home Easter egg before? It's apparently a Halloween thing, but it happened to my GF yesterday without her ever saying anything.
Voice command: OK Google, I'm home.
Assistant's response: Welcome home. I've been doing my best to hold down the fort. But it just wasn't the same without you2 -
This Halloween we didn't get anyone turning up at the door.
I wonder if it's because last time we gave them apples?
At least their parents were happy 🎃3 -
!rant !dev Still funny office story
This happened last november. I decorated my desk for halloween (plastic bats, vampire stickers, more bats, a plastic raven, a little skeleton, etc). I also put a photo of Chris Pohl (vocalist from Blutengel, a electro-goth band).
I decided to remove all the decorations except for the raven and the Chris Pohl‘s photo.
One day, a partner and I were cheking out the code, and she suddenly saw that photo.
She: Oh, who is he? is he your boss?
Me: What?
S: Yes, is he your direct boss?
M: No, you‘re my boss
S: No, no, is he the vampire who you report your activities with?
M: Oh! XD No, it‘s Chris Pohl, Blutengel‘s vocalist
S: Mmm... he‘s pretty weird... his eyes...
and then, she got back to her desk.
That‘s it, continue reading rant stories 😅
P.D. What‘s the weirdest thing you have on your desk? 🤔7 -
Hey guys,simple joke for you....

I don't have a stress ball yet, but I share these two small guys with my dog. One for summer and one for Halloween & Winter. And they both squeak like crazy.
Actually, they're a terrible strain when my dog's working on them. -
I fucking hate Halloween costume stress, I am so fucking dumb that I can’t think of anything to dress as. I might just stay home tbh bc fuck all of this shit.12

Great start to Halloween, phone has been stolen, and turned off so I can't track it. Oh, and I have no job so I can't get another right now. YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY3

ah yes, the usual family get-together: my grandma's throwing heavy shit with intent to kill, my sister is violently crying in a corner and refuses to move to safety, and my dad's shut down in a chair somewhere in the house. Just like every Christmas. And Thanksgiving. And Halloween. And every other large holiday.
Surprised I made it to 19.3 -
Day 5 of devWholesome...
It's almost halloween! Today is a day for relaxation and carving pumpkins. While halloween may be less exciting this year we should try and make the most of our circumstances. Dress up and have fun! Even if its just with your family dressing up is so fun. Carving pumpkins and baking are also super fun. We can all celebrate even if we can't necessarily go outside. And as always, make the most out of your day!11 -
Talking to another coworker today:
me: Have you ever looked at a coworker and realized they are Halloween ready?
coworker: <laughing> Some people are ready all year round!
(side note: I feel like devrant needs a test before people can post here. The paper bag challenge should be enough I think.)1 -
Needs repeating:
Q: Why do programmers always get Halloween and Christmas mixed up?
A: Because Oct(31)==dec(25)2 -
fucking "premium subscription" is just a reboot of the "bundling" bullshit from the cable companies.
no i dont really wanna pay 4 bucks to rent a shitty halloween flick for 48 hours that i randomly got nostalgia for, nor do i want to pay an additional 8 bucks a month for your streaming service that i hardly use to begin with to include Starz or whatever.
oh a free 7 day trial will get me access you say? oh but of course you need my credit card first just to verify that im real and then conveniently charge me when i forgot i signed up and keep my money after i cancel.
too lazy to torrent. movie wasnt that great either, so not really worth the effort.7 -

I wanted to prank a colleague. And he ruined it by showing up to the site of prank way too early, despite him having had clear instructions as to "let me know" once he gets to the office.
Anyways, as I was going to lengths getting this damn skeleton yesterday, I was thinking how much more fun it would be if my highschool bestfriend was here instead of him, and what greater lengths I'd go just to prank her. Halloween specially would be prank every day for a week! 😆
Now, point to make, is that the mentioned bestfriend is well and alive, just wants to live her life her own way, and that doesn't include having a goofy friend such as me as close anymore (and I feel that's fair, however much I don't like it)
But that I am projecting my friendship with her on this new friend/colleague... creepy of me, I know, but like... also sad. Like I felt bad for myself for a second there. How many times in a lifetime do you get to feel bad for yourself?

Dear Diary,
Today is October 31st, ‘Halloween’ according to ancient pagan tradition. I can’t help but wonder if those pagans of yore felt as I do now in their attempts to yoke unruly bands of spirits. I sit wearily at my desk in painful and tiresome reckoning with those new hellcats we call node dependencies. Many an hour I have toiled, maestro of a cacophonous orchestra akin to that tucked in later pages of Bulgakov’s magnum opus, pleading with the band to follow my wand. And to no avail. In the wee hours of the morn I can scarcely tell who is conducting who. My sleep laden eyes blink on each execution of yarn install, my fingers knowingly re-execute with an up-arrow enter when that instruction is returned with gnarled, gruesome errors. And I ask again: “who is conducting who?!“. Will this great devil of machinery eventually meet me with an error so fearsome that I myself lay asunder? It is a battle, make no mistake. It is the “trial of a thousand years”! And who shall come out victorious I know not, but rest shall not come until I either lay myself down into the jaws of dependency hell or emerge victorious.
Dear Diary,
Today is November 1st. Compiled on the first try, no additional changes FML1 -
Halloween is approaching and I wonder why anyone would pay $20 for a haunted house when they can run their code and see all the errors and get scared for free 😂😂

Long time....loooong time since I got on here. That said, I'm just gonna jump on this like everyone else. You know the drill.
MS just bought GitHub. Fucking. GitHub.
I just pulled an all-nighter a day ago to set up a DigitalOcean droplet for the first time. I'm sorry. I just don't trust Microsoft. Look at the Halloween memos and everything they've done. Then they try to (literally) buy trust. It doesn't work like that, at least not for me.
I see people comparing users talking about moving to GitLab to the people who said they were leaving the US after the 2016 elections but never did. That's the difference here - I set up my first GitLab install.
I dislike the thought of the buyout so much that I want to ignore the fact that it's happening. But gotta get through. GitHub could easily take the way of SourceForge and GitLab prevails. -
It's so weird that the avatars of profiles with originally no avatars at all keep changing.
I think that's a feature. Maybe an Halloween feature. Who knows
***EDIT***
When I give an upvote to someone from the comment section, the pre commentators and post commentators' ++ action button give a visual feedback. Their font color becomes white and rapidly changes back to a darker tone.1 -
One time while enjoying the Halloween festivities I was kidnapped.
What happened was this, in my brilliant genuine way of thinking, put on a Stormtrooper costume and stood outside the front door like a model statuesque persona to frighten the living daylights out of the trick or treat gremlins, Doing such an amazing job as usual, pretending in my head that I was invisible for about an hour scaring the life out of everyone when for brief moments to break character.
Along came a car, it backed up to the ground I fought hard to gain that night, as a problem solving professional I remained silent and still as two assailants proceeded to place me into the back seat of their car.
Now ladies look away. When they were discussing what I was worth they actually didn't expect me to sit up in the back seat and say "donde esta la biblioteca". I was wearing a Deadpool outfit under my Stormtrooper uniform the whole time and I got to beat up some bad guys, so this is a really nice fuzzy carebare story with a happy ending.3 -
I don't think that "code" should be used as a verb. A programmer 'writes' code or 'programs' something. I'd rather not be called a "coder." Unless it's Halloween and I'm dressed up as a brogrammer.3
-
I love the Halloween GitHub's squares and Google's cat.
*checks Microsoft, Apple and Bing*
"Do your best work", "This is 7." uhm, sure....3 -

Well, Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of All Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a spooky celebration observed every year in a number of countries on October 31 - the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day, also known as All Saints' Day. In 2017, Halloween falls on a Tuesday

Office prank I pulled: Halloween party, the office is decorated, and there is a fake spider that I use to scare unwary victims.
Office prank other pulled: a printout picture of the grudge ghost was place in places like, laptop, side of a wall, clinic curtain, etc. That even if Halloween is over there as still some victims.. -
Happy Late Halloween! what did you guys do?
what im doing is:
-looking at my backpack full of candy
-Currently Raising my blood sugar
-Some reason the last quote allows me to find errors better
-There are 2 huge wasps in my room flying around with the door closed
-Working on a python game
i might crash but i better kill the wasps before they land on me i hope everyone had a good time and didn't have to deal with anything during a spooky day -
Halloween is like The Purge but for spiritual energy instead of criminal intentions
also interesting that no nut November comes after. a lot of sects of thought view sexual energy as the basis for all other forms of energy
and then Christmas is about pacifying and making people into fools that pretend they're happy and ignore their problems and to make them avoid any targets of willpower or meaning they may possibly encounter. which is actually really fucked up because Christ was a huge rebel in actuality -
Top 5 Reasons for Not Discussing Weird Topics in Your Graduate Admission Essay
Knowing the top five reasons for not discussing weird topics in your graduate admission essay is very important. There is really no strict requirement about what kind of topic you use, as long as you can discuss it effectively. However, choosing weird topics may not really work for you, especially if it’s a very controversial or sensitive one. The following are the top five reasons why you should avoid discussing weird topics in your essay.
Reason #1: Weird topics are weird.
First off, weird topics are exactly that, weird. The last thing you want to do is weird out your graduate school admission panel, which is almost a sure way of getting yourself that polite rejection letter that every applicant dreads of receiving.
One of the main important points to remember is to think of your audience when writing your graduate admission essay. This audience will be composed of tenured professors, and probably younger teachers closer to your own age. Although it is a good idea not to tailor your essay according to what you think they want to hear, it’s best to stick to a topic that will make the panel want to get to know you more. You can do this by putting yourself in the admission officer’s shoes and trying to feel what your reaction would be with a particular topic you have in mind. Being creative is good, but to any audience, weird is weird, and most audiences will not know how to react to a weird admission essay.
Reason #2: Weird topics may reflect your personality in a bad way.
Weird topics make you look weird, or worse. You may think that a weird topic is the same as a creative topic, something that most experts on admissions officers urge applicants to use. With a weird topic, you can easily make the jump from being creative to just plain strange or worse, someone with an emotional or personality problem. Weird topics, when discussed ineffectively, are bad topics, and can be anything from the death of a pet, recent religious epiphanies, and even parent bashing. These topics are the last topics that can paint you in a good light so avoid these and other similar topics.
Reason #3: Weird topics may not represent the real you.
Weird topics will not paint the real you, unless you are naturally weird. If you really think that being a little bit off will pay off, then by all means do so. But if you want to appear as normal and as emotionally healthy as possible, save the strange stories for Halloween night.
Reason #4: Weird topics may seem too informal.
Weird topics can get too informal. You can be informal but you need to look normal as well in order to avoid appearing irreverent. Some may disagree with this, but often the only way to get on your admission panel’s good side is to tread on the middle ground arefully, and not be too stiff and prudish but not be too loose either.
Reason #5: Weird topics may confuse the readers.
While most schools allow their applicants free reign when it comes to writing an admissions essay, you can do your self a lot of good by treading on the middle ground. Avoid weird or strange topics if you can. A weird topic will put your readers in a place where they may not understand you. And in a process where getting to know you as a person is the main objective, this move will definitely have an effect on whether you get accepted or not. Knowing what to write in a graduate school admission essay is fairly easy, especially if the school provides you with a set of questions, known as prompts as your guide. As long as you already have the other requirements such as the right grade point average, recommendation letters, program of study and the like, you can start working on your essay. But if your still not sure whether it good idea to write essay by yourself. You can find tons of great quality writing services such as https://uk-essays.com/research-pape.... At such a websites you’ll easily find help from from people who already have considerable experience in writing a wide variety of essays. They will gladly help in any issue that makes you difficult.
