So...Today I found an SQLI (sql injection , google if you're not aware) in one of our products , I start exploring it , I get my trusty Kali on me workstation . sqlmap etc. Tell my manager it's a true positive... I start exploring the db , half the devs at my manager's place start staring at his screen as I proper fuck a QA db server... I hear a qa guy mention triangulation as sqlmap dumps a uid table in his face . I hear my manager's manager saying 'this has been in our app for so long and we found it just now ? Who found it ?' *manager proudly saying me name* 'He's still working this late ?' ...apparently now my trip to england is getting covered for both me and me gf by the company...

Anyhow. I started coding prettymuch 365 days ago. My mate decided to launch his company and figured it was a good idea to start it with good friends who knew fuck all at coding.

Fyi, the dude can code 15 hours straight everyday for about a year (no shit thats what i saw).

Since he taught me html css javascript(even if i still suck abit at js). He made me remake the whole bootstrap in react by adding this new lib styled-components and test everything(95% coverage :)).

He also taught me webpack and rollup. Json schma forms，http requests redux， redux logic， and all the routing shit...he obliged me to i plement RR4 on release and is now making me overlook the merge requests of my other collegue (yes he made me a git pro，almost).

And now i have to work long distance by studying java， spring， oauth2 and start working on our api.

O yeah，and i went from microsoft to full on linux!!!

To be honest i thought i was gonna die this year. (Also have a kid on the way :)).

Discovered this app and the cute avatars. Found out you need at least 10 points to create one, so here I go! Just finished my third year in computer science, now exploiting the positive discrimination for girls to get summer programming jobs ;).

Internet Download Manager costs about $24. It's not cross platform either. uGet UI looks old as fuck and shows positive in virustotal.

I really like my little group for this one huge exam project we have. Everyone's nice, ambitious, takes the project seriously, responsible and communicates well. Additional bonus is we're all on the same skill level so everyone's learning and nobody is dragging a huge load alone. We've had no issues so far and despite being fairly early in the project we're making good progress all around. Is this what a stress-free experience feels like? Pretty happy with the project in general and I think our app idea is pretty cool too.

A month after I dropped out I got my first job as a junior Drupal developer. That was 7 years ago, now I'm a FrontEnd dev in a really great environment and throughout the years no one looked at my grades or even asked for them.

One app I have in mind is a resource for victims of bullying, and another is an integrated Virtual Learning Environment that truly provides pupils and teachers with the tools they need and want.

Basically I want to make a positive impact on the lives of children and make that available to everyone, not just the schools who can afford it.

I hate doing estimates, but I had to adapt. Since I work remotely and under contract, I'm used to track my time and estimate by hours.

I did a lot of mistakes before, which means I worked for free to wrap up fixed price projects.

Today, the method that is working best for me is:
1) positive estimate
2) most likely estimate
3) worst case estimate
Sum up and divide by 3.
I do this for every task.
Also, for Web projects, I like to divide tasks in categories like: HTML / CSS, UX, programming, testing.

While testing on IE11 today I noticed a smiley face in the upper left corner that brings up a context menu with the options "Send a smile" and "Send a frown".

Meetings were usually not dead serious (unless there was a problem), everyone just joked around a little, made their actual points and got back to work.

Now the other one:
A client's QA staff commented "this bug is still occuring" on 5 tickets, without checking if they ever deployed the new release candidate.
They didn't deploy the new RC, so of course, the bugs couldn't have been fixed on their side.

A few years ago I would whine, complain and rant about shitty software, which I knew could be so much better than it was. But I didn't yet write software of my own.

Now I complain about shitty libraries, API's and users. Not much has changed really. And every time I write code, I curse myself, and whoever made this trashpile I have to work with. I curse the user to the moon and beyond for using the program wrong. Funny thing is, exactly the thing I was complaining about (input validation, see earlier rant) is also exactly what no more than 5 minutes after release, a user fucked up with. The bot just does not respond at this point. But fuck these braindead retards for users.

In a few years I expect myself to be complaining about shitty compilers and buffer overflows, segmentation violations, bad coding style (don't make your program a fucking colander kthx), and so on.

Next decade I expect myself to be complaining about physics itself, and why the universe is governed by the laws it's governed by. Whoever this God is, he's a fucking retard. Funny thing is, the signs for it are already there. Electron theory! If only those electrons were positrons, then the math would check out properly. Instead of negative electrons traveling from negative to positive, we'd have positive positrons traveling from positive to negative. At least from what I understand so far, this is still a decade away after all.

The point I'm trying to make is that nothing changes, only my understanding of the world around me does, as I tumble further and further down the rabbit hole. As a uni student not yet into heavy projects yet @DiNozzo97 and I made a mock smart house out of MDF, put controllable rgb LEDs in each room, lockable doors (demonstrated with servos), an openable garage (also servos), and thermistors taking an average temperature of all the rooms with an air con (PC fan). All of which was controllable with a website openable anywhere, run on a Pi. Oh and we integrated a doorbell that linked to twillio that sent you a text, if you replied with a positive response the door would unlock!

Kinda positive rant: Started my new job today after I quit the previous one (or as we started to call it the "bad place"🔥). Lot's of nice people and so far a really nice atmosphere. A bit of information overload. They are working with a lot of technologies which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it kinda scares me. Also made me sad I have to start all over again making friends...I just felt really "new" you know.

Finish that project that you started but never finished, clean your room, or maybe just catch up on school work! Finally a little productive today. Built a LEMP stack web server for my personal stuff later on. I've been using apache for so long but feels great to switch to nginx.

I love receiving good reviews on my software.
(negative but constructive feedback is welcome as well, of course)
But receiving compliments, especially in person is really weird.
On the one hand I know that I did a good job, I know that the features are useful and the UI is classy and comfortable. On the other hand I still feel not comfortable receiving compliments for doing something good.
I don't have any social awkwardness and yet this feels so weird.

I've finally got a monitor at work that works with Samsung Dex.
Positive things:
- new super cool monitor
- can remove windows now from the dual boot of the laptop since everything I needed it for can be now done on Dex.

Negative things:
- DevRant doesn't work with Dex. It just doesn't load properly. But maybe it will work through a browser. Need to test...

For different reasons, this outbreak of coronavirus lead me to learn how to use git efficiently (never had to before, as I work mostly alone). In two days I learned to fork, branch, pull, push, ... I feel like I really accomplished something for myself.

Oh and I also started to collaborate to a shiny app in R. Any way is good to keep my mind off the fact of being in lockdown in a foreign country.

Relationship between ranting and productivity.

When productivity increases, ranting increases as you are dealing with a lot of shit. So ranting is actually beneficial to high productivity.

When productivity decreases below zero because you have a lot of fucking problems, your ranting also increases sharply.

The only peace zone is with moderate, positive or negative, productivity and low ranting, i.e when you are not doing much

The worst thing is a false positive.

Ask yourself: 'What do I really care about?'
Then find a company that makes a positive difference regarding those things.

On the positive note, I just installed win 10 on my PC, so I can finally play some MMO with my gf with more than 30 seconds per frame. Needless to say, my first installs were Msys2 and gvim :)

So it's officially a month into my new job...

I have to say, sometimes life can surprise you, I never expected things to go down so smoothly especially after getting fired from my previous one.

My manager is just an amazing super friendly guy, great colleagues with positive attitudes, positive work environment, better benefits, the list goes on...

Honestly I would say the biggest con is I now work 45hrs/week instead of 35, which might be a dealbreaker for some but I also work in the cloud industry which is honestly miles ahead than the UAT testing crap I used to do, plus the company pays for your certifications after you pass, so it's a small price to pay imo.

If any of you are struggling with a shitty job/work environment don't give up, out of all the places I worked at I never felt appreciated until I came here, keep on grinding.

Gave a talk at another local dev meetup yesterday; my 2nd talk so far. Was surprised at the generally positive reception.

The presentation was on a piece of software I used recently. Initially wasn't sure about how to predict the reception as I wasn't sure what to focus on. So just thought I'd give an intro, on it and highlight some of the features I liked about it.

I have been wondering if there is a way to use social media in a positive way.

Since high school (when Facebook first started) I knew that this social media was a cancer.

From what I know there is no positive use for cancer, and I’m pretty sure that the same is true for social media.

But to be honest, it is a tool that is very effective in manipulating the masses. In fact, it is likely the greatest tool for leading sheep to slaughter since religion. I’m always looking to take advantage of every tool at my disposal.

Tools shouldn’t be seen as good of bad, so I am going to have to accept it is a tool of great power and use it. Hopefully I can use it in a positive way, but that doesn’t look likely...

So, yeah it's been a month in the industry for me now. Rant time - I got mind fucked when I saw my teammate making a drop-down list which was editable, when I confronted him and explained him the disadvantages of that. His explanation is that user will not take advantage of that as the feature is for our internal use. But on a positive note he fixed it.

It's almost halloween! Today is a day for relaxation and carving pumpkins. While halloween may be less exciting this year we should try and make the most of our circumstances. Dress up and have fun! Even if its just with your family dressing up is so fun. Carving pumpkins and baking are also super fun. We can all celebrate even if we can't necessarily go outside. Stayed up extra late fixing a bug. Fucking bug is buried in a thousand lines of MOTHERFUCKING SML.
FUCKING ASSHOLE SHIT-WAGGLING COCKSMEAR AND THAT SHITTY, GODDAMNED BACKWARDS FUCKING LANGUAGE!
Fucking wasted an entire night chasing down a fucking bug in SML with no positive effect.
I wound up commenting out 7/8 of the entire fucking codebase to try to find the fucking bug. No positive effect.
Finally had to go to sleep because my son was about two hours from waking up.
Getting back to work, and within twenty minutes I found the fucking bug and fixed it.
Fucking wasted nearly an entire night's sleep, and I ended up fixing the fucking bug before finishing my morning coffee.
I seriously fucking hate motherfucking SML.

So, you all may remember my rant about my visual impairment. This dude applied the UNIX philosophy to glasses: They do one thing, and one thing well. He actually calls them "task-specific glasses" but come on now, that's the OG UNIX concept!

No, I will not have to have surgery - supposedly. The glasses he builds are ~$25,000. He said that when we go over spring break, he'll determine if we can go from 98% to 100% positive. If this can be pulled off, my life could be forever changed, for the better, hopefully...

My biggest influencer? My Web Dev schools psychologist. Always scheduling breaks in our day.
He continuously reminded us it's a positive thing to walk away from the code and change up the brain patterns.

Conversation with American developers, suddenly we began to talk about college and how in debt they are. I tell them that don't have an education related debt.

They were skeptical at first, but then we found that my entire education costed less than one semester for them. That's one positive thing about living here.

I've finally quit my job today! It's been too long a time in the making. I was absolutely terrified but turned it into a positive discussion (considering the circumstances).

Instead of ranting I thought it would be nicer to ask for opinions/solutions: How to cope with a collegue that keeps producing trainwrecks of code which you have to first refactor to make it work in a more logical/structured way? Yes, his initial solution works (in a way), but it's just not how 99% of the other developers would solve it. And yes, we've shown him quite a few times how it should/could be (in a positive and constructing manner)

I wrote some code in a different pattern than that was seen in the project. Got positive comments, but the senior said that as per the project rules you are not supposed to write like this.
So ended up writing some duplicate code but somehow it incorporates my pattern and existing project rules.

Union types are fun and intuitive because they can be used with type refinement but they're not hierarchical thus bad for generics.

Sum types (or tagged unions) are great because they're hierarchical and can be nested properly but they need ugly type matching constructs.

The positive thing is I'm not making a systems language anymore so I only wanna jump of a bridge every second day

A lot of things happened. Life has changed and forced me to leave social media for some months (including devRant).

I became a happier person. I learned how to handle stressful situations and improved my social skills. Started to not give a fuck about people and realised that I get girls' attention without me putting effort.

Some girls began to initiate conversations which I found odd because I wasn't used to it.

I went camping with some bros last week, we met girls and I have a date next week.

I still can't understand how I am attracting so many girls. I barely changed from the outside appearance.

In short: Life is going great which is ironic due to the corona virus.

Today Phoronix posted a short article about a (in my opinion cool) new feature I implemented in my file manager (Dolphin). Most of the feedback was positive/constructive criticism but some people attacked me personally because they don't like the feature/think "true" Linux users wouldn't use it.

Question for all Dev..
I recently apply for a front-end dev and I got rejected. I than apply to many other jobs offer for the same position and got rejected. This is really putting me down and disencouraging me to continue (but I know it shouldn't) I just want to know if anyone else went through or is going through the same thing and how did you find the strength to stay positive. How many times did you get rejected before actually finding a job? And how many times people have told you no? This goes for freelancer and business.

Does anyone knows why in c++ floats range from numeric_limits<float>::lowest() to ::max() and ::min() is just the lowest positive value instead the actual minimum? This strange naming convention just costs me an hour of my life that I'm never getting back...

Finished the weekend with 2 really productive debugging and bugfixing evenings and nights. It always is impressing me how productive I am at weekend nights. I literally found all major bugs of an software we developed and I also fixed them. It feels so good and powerfull. Looking forward to customers positive feedback

Not a rant, positive news instead. Finally after 2.5 years of searching I found a new job! Especially after a interview that I thought went south very quickly. Ended up with an offer 30 minutes after the fact.

I think I just realized the relationships between toons in Looney Toons: World of Mayhem is basically a graph... And so the optimal teams can be found by solving Pick 4 Vertices (toons) that maximize the # of Edges (positive relationships) between them...

Is there an algorithm that finds that or I just bring force it by testing all combos? Given the # of toons shouldn't take too long.
