For 5-6 years no one came to my birthday even though they said they would.

Impostor vs Kenner syndrome
We got a new kid which does his internship from school. We talked and he asked me what stuff I had done with 14 - 16. I remembered with 14 I was really into reverse engineering, assembler and c/c++ but never managed to actually build something.
So he started to say stuff like he could replace me in an instant and he should get paid for this internship at least as much as I did, because he made some websites and games already.
I really was down. Kids today get a lot of shit done and I was a disappointing lazy little shit just playing games and try to reverse engineer stuff and learn assembler and c++.
It's been month and shit hit me when I've seen his stuff was copy pasted from a tutorial/ YouTube video.
Today's ressources, languages, frameworks make it really easy to build something but I still got respect for everyone every age who is interested and get into programming and stuff.
But I hope you'll read this you little shit and realise that you can use a simple physics engine by copy and pasting code. So don't talk disrespectful to people in general especially when they can create a whole game and physics engine.14 -

A: Age is mostly doesn't matter. You can learn programming at any age. And, software is everywhere. Every background knowledge will be useful. Your prior knowledge will not be wasted.
But, should you change career?
- YES, if you deeply interested in programming.
- NO, if it's only because you feel there are better opportunities.
It's true that there may be better opportunities. But, without deep interest in the subject, you may struggle to become good software developer. Without being a good developer, your opportunities will be limited and you are likely to regret the decision.
Software development is easier for those who passionate but very difficult for those who doesn't....4 -

Customer called, said they needed help deleting some images and that they'd mail me a list.
Today I received a package with 20 A4 pages containing nothing but crossed over thumbnails.
I've seen images in .docx files attached to emails, .bmp files, pdf's and zip files with images before...
But literally mailing thumbnails, that's a first..
If only we lived in a digital age where you could capture your screen and image manipulate it later.5 -

What do you think about ageism in the tech industry? I see articles where Facebook/Google pride themselves that their employee median age is not over 30. Why is that of any importance? Is it hard for seasoned developers to find a job or adapt to the "youth culture" in tech companies? Any of you felt bullied by your younger colleagues? Finally, will this change in the next 10 years since developers in their 20s will be approaching their 40s, or once they reach that age they will go to the special developer graveyard and commit harikiri?5

How did your quest into the dev world look like? That's mine:
First time: Age 12, was in a C++ evening class for like 2 weeks, I undetstood nothing.
Second time: Age 16-18
Fiddled with scripts for steam games and jailbroken my iPhone while fiddling with aystem configs. Nothing major.
Third time: Age 19, learned Python in a Cybersecurity course. Failed miserably because the tutors were shit, thought I hated programming.
Fourth time: Age 21, developed a lot of scripts in my sysadmin job, one of them needed a GUI so I leanred C# and WPF. Enjoyed it so much I eventually enrolled in a Java 10 month course.
Fifth time: Now, age 22, learning Android and Fullstack javascript by myself. Enjoying every moment.
I still work as a sysadmin though.3 -

We have an intern older than I am and a junior as I am of course I don’t know everything. But i would usually hint him things he should/should not do based on the devs team process pr the dos and donts. But he doesn’t listen most of the time. Only does what I tell him when he’s out of option. He obviously thinks he’s better, he would ask for my help but wouldn’t acknowledge my answer. Rather he’ll spark an argument even cutting me when I’m explaining it nicely to him. I even asked if he badly wants to prove he is correct and I am wrong, I’ll go ahead and ask a more senior dev. Andddd of course he cut me and did not let me ask the senior dev. Then i told him he could do the query himself. Anddd mother fucker shut up bcos I was right. Didn’t even hear him apologize or at least say he was wrong or just be humble and accept it.2

Started out reading "Standard C++ Bible" (~800 pages), who does that anyway? Throughly studied the language and at 14 years of age tried hard even grasping what the word polymorphism meant, realising 10 years later how much it gave me. Immensely grateful that C++ choose to rip my brain apart at that young age.
