Who needs rubber duck debugging when you can do paper duck debugging?
Or is that concept too... Farfetch’d? 😎13 -
I don't judge other developers for not knowing or understanding a particular concept, I judge them for pretending like they do...1
-
To the Windows 10 users of the unofficial devRant client.
I will release soon the v1.4, but I'm already thinking about the future of this project.
What do you think about this concept?
Let me know if you like/hate it.
Any suggestion will be considered.
Thanks!59 -
Asus introduces dual screen laptop with touchscreen instead of keyboard. Just imaging programming with that

I’m making a puzzle game! Cool!
Concept - done
Mechanics - done
Art - done
Ui - done
Puzzles - uhhh... this is harder than expected.31 -
Normal people don't understand this concept; they believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

MOTHER FUCKER IDIOTS!!!

Oh boy, my fellow devRanters, I just signed an 4 digit monthly salary (that's a lot in Lithuania) job contract, I'm a future Unix infrastructure engineer :o
As per original concept of ranting, it's been almost two months since I wrote for the stickers and didn't get a reply >:(11 -
So back in January 2015 I bought my first Mac and wanted to learn Swift. Coming from .Net C# IBOutlet was anew concept for me, had to search for how to make a button event and Google gave that 😐
**I just googled it for the sake of this rant but ya it happened 😅5 -
You can’t become fit physically by reading a lot about fitness.
You actually need to go to the gym and put the hours and sweat in!
Same concept applies for coding as well.3 -

God damn it, i said so many times that this functionality is proof of concept and needs more investigation into technical/legal details...why the flugzeug mr account manager have you gone and emailed all your client accounts telling them we are now offering it?... why are you messaging me starting your sentence with "now that we provide..." god...damn...it4

Just applied for this job and I had to share it here, really cool and fun concept :)
http://careers.qpercom.ie/4 -
Oh the ups and down of learning code. One day you feel like a programming prodigy, the next you hit a concept that makes you feel like you'll never become a professional programmer. So much to learn!!!! 😭😭7
-
A senior developer come to interrupt me.
Senior developer: blah...blah....blah about this concept...... that concept... So, any new things you learn lately that you would like to share?
Me: I am learning back C++
Immediately he stop me and said, "Why did you learn C++? It is obsolete, no one use it anymore"
Me (in my head): But, you just said what I learn. It doesn't matter if its obsolete or not. Infact you are wrong, C++ is not obsolete anytime soon. I was about to share on webassembly.
Senior developer: So, would you like to join me in a short sharing session this afternoon.
Me: No thanks, I am really busy (just want to avoid at any cost)8 -
Mind blown! Microsoft invented the concept of touch bar way before apple. oO

Surprises me how everybody is saying apple invented it.13 -
Started testing out the concept of a new application I'm developing (nothing special)
I always seem to play games instead of coding, so I'm developing a trainer which monitors for any open games and checks whether I have coded enough in a day to play games.
If I haven't coded for long enough, it will force close the game and warn me.
Further development to happen.27 -
Client: "We want you to build us a quick prototype / proof of concept. Don't make it too neat, we'll rebuild it before we go live."
Also client: "We already have a working version, why would we rebuild it?" -
devRant on a HoloLens!
The HoloLens is really cool, I was allowed to use it after a short hackathon. I am still surprised, but it works great and the concept feels natural after a short moment - web browsing is not recommended as no website is optimized for mixed reality (yet?).
Sorry for the low quality photo (it is not the compression algorithm's fault this time).10 -
One of my QA friends told me today,
" If I wanna screw you up, I will just have to delete a semicolon in your code, hahahhaahhaha ". <for real>
There are two problems here
1. He's not familiar with the concept of an IDE
2. I use Python
Stop making fucking " ; " jokes in early 2019 >_<
:P
#No hard feeling to the QAs out there9 -

Front end dev be like:
Me:
This is greatest design concept ever!
Why isn't it working? It was working yesterday.
This is the stupidest design concept ever.
It works! It works! The client is going to love this as much as I do. It's exactly what they asked for!
Client:
Actually, can you do something completely different?5 -
Client has a hand drawn logo. Which is really bad.
We build a website with the same concept.
Client keeps telling us the website doesn't look sophisticated enough.
How do I tell them it's the childish logo?8 -
When I was in college I used to think deadlock is just a theory concept. First c++ project on my job and I already have one now. 🙃

You guys ever thought about the concept that our universe might be a simulation written by some alien kid for a school project and got a C- for it?
Yeah...perhaps I should go to sleep18 -
Let junior dev design module.
Make code review.
What junior dev says: "It is a totally flexible concept!"
What junior dev means: "It is extremely shitty to use for the one use case it was meant to do, but it will be equally shitty to use for all the use cases we will never have."
Back to square one.9 -
Note to self: if you work on a logo concept that you know it won't work and it's hard to implement/loses meaning in monocolor, don't show it to your client as part of the first round of concepts.
Because that's the one they'll choose.2 -
if ur gonna explain a brand new goddamn concept and make a goddamn course or a goddamn series out of it

Hello guys and girls!
My company tasked me to do something insane.
Little background info: I'm a trainee, in my first year (of three, even though I will shorten my apprenticeship to two years). I told my trainer that I like encryption in a somewhat private talk.
Now to the insane part. I got tasked to develop a whole security concept ~2 weeks ago to protect our products against industrial espionage. I feel in no way competent enough to achieve this especially because my concepts so far have been dismissed with a 'naaaah. Can't we just do X for now and add the other stuff later?' or 'we can't do that.'
I seriously don't want my name under a concept we would use world wide on our customers pcs which I know has serious flaws.
What should I do? What would you do?22 -
What to do with a web development intern who doesn't understand the concept of git even after 3 weeks of joining?
PS: Can't fire her20 -
It's the 21st century. We have this amazing thing called the Internet. It's literally at our finger tips. Any information you want can be found with the tap of a phone screen, and the information will be presented to you in less than a second.
Why is this concept so fucking hard for people to comprehend? Instead of asking me "How do I write a resignation letter?", search the damn internet for resignation letter guides. Like Jesus Christ, it's not that hard of a concept to comprehend. Especially when you've basically grown up with the internet in our lives. -
Fuck I hate bloated app permissions but I guess todo lists that know who you most likely to chat to when taking a dump is what we get for demanding everything for free. I get why Snapchat wants so much, I just find it fucking ironic that this is from a company that founded itself on the concept of privacy 🤦♂️7
-
Anyone else suffer from this.
Have a brilliant idea, start computer, open you IDE, write a few lines of code as proof of concept and then just loose interests coz it's no longer a challenge !6 -
I have been on Reddit...
I have been lurking in ProgrammerHumor...
I am not proud of these things...
I got called a "Big Shot" because I didn't think the concept of pointers in C/C++ was ever particularly hard.
If I remember right. I learned in high school how pointers worked when they explained how arrays worked in Pascal. When I taught myself C it didn't ever seem like it was a difficult thing to understand.
Is the concept of pointers really that hard to understand for devs?17 -
Tried to simulate spreading of viruses in quarantined vs non-quarantined environment.
Non-quarantined people are not understanding the concept of boundaries.5 -
I love materializecss.com .. I love the concept and I don't know why, but I like it ways better than bootstrap. Materialize looks kinda fresh to me - not the classic Material Design. Aaaaaand it's very easy to work with it.5

I've been working on a proof of concept for my thesis for a few days and the async query calls drove me nuts for quite a while. I finally managed to deliver all query results asynchronously while still very much relying on a strong architectural design pattern. Mate; I've been reading for over a week to understand some concept.

Linkedin hunter per excellence. They are looking for “an experienced Expert for a position as Junior IT Consultant“.
Well, I have some experience, but someone should really explain them the concept of being a Junior Expert...5 -
You know what fkn sucks? I was so fkn excited to join the company. It was a dream job for me. I loved everything about it. The stack, the concept, the core values, everything.
Fast forward 3 years and I no longer recognize the company I joined. Went from customer first to revenue first. No other vision than increase sales. Heart fkn breaking...2 -
I really don't know how LinkedIn works. The whole concept of connecting with random people is very weird. Pls explain.10

Can anyone tell me the difference between VPN and this proposed concept of Mr. Wang?
“Your Private Browsing Isn’t as Incognito as You Want It to Be” https://medium.com/popular-science/...7 -
My dad actually. He's been in the industry for 40+ years. (Mostly answers my questions with a question and we end up talking about a whole different concept but in the end he's an amazing teacher.)1

C is probably my favorite programming language. I use it for learning new concepts and implementing algorithms.
It's just sometimes I hate that I have to do everything myself when I need to focus on the solution/concept instead.
P.S., I hate C++ from all my heart. It's an abomination and a deformity of C.21 -
Hey guys, I hope you don't mind me sharing here..
I just wanted to share some progress iv made on my game. It is officially out of concept phase now and I have upgraded to 3D. Check out my gameplay here:

When sales starts selling a "concept" feature to a client because someone showed them a mockup of it in Photoshop. They say "don't worry they know it's going to take a month or two". A week later .. When are we getting that feature? 😑2
-
I've learned over the years that there's no such thing as a Proof of Concept app. You might as well call them beta versions since some salesperson or manager will see it and immediately tell clients about it who will buy it and then you have to support and expand it.
-
Code freeze is such an idiotic concept. What year do we have? Just make a goddamn release branch and do your codefreezy things there. Why the fuck would we stop the entire development just because you can't figure out git?8
-
My internship company does not believe in the concept of 'commenting'. They just tell me: "Ahh just write readable code!
Yeah that's cool until I need to read out thousands of lines of javascript without a single comment!5 -
Last year, one of our assignments for school was to implement a caesar cipher in Java. There is that one guy, that doesn't understand the concept of dynamic variables, so he HARDCODED every single possibility for every character. More than 1000 lines for something this simple. Yes, we are studying informatics. Yes, he passed last year1

!rant for any rock/metal fans,
Avenged Sevenfold just released a new concept album (the stage) about artificial intelligence. It includes a spoken word section in the last song by Neil deGrasse Tyson!1 -
Recently I launched the minimalistic online drawing app https://okso.app. I wanted it to be a place where people could do fast, ad-hoc, napkin-based-like explanations of any concept as if you are sitting with your friend and trying to explain him/her something during lunch. Don't ask me why it is needed, I was just experimenting.
So, the first concept I've tried to explain with sketches was the Data Structures. Without further ado, here is the interactive ✍🏻 https://okso.app/showcase/... showcase that you may play with.
Of course, not all data structures are covered. And of course, this is not comprehensive material, but rather a cheatsheet that would create visual hints and associations for the following data structures:
- Linked List
- Doubly Linked List
- Queue
- Stack
- Hash Table (with hash collision resolution)
- Tree (including the Binary Search Tree)
- Heap (including Mean Heap and Max Heap)
- Trie
- Graph
Each box on the sketch is clickable, so you may dig into the data structure you're interested. For example `Heap → Max Heap`, or `Heap → Min Heap`, or `Heap → Array Representation`.
The sketches are split into so-called Pages just to make it easier to grasp them, so the users stay focused on one concept at a time, they see the relationship between the concept, and thus, hopefully, they are not getting overwhelmed with seeing a lot of information at the same time on one drawing/page.
Each page has a link to the source-code examples that are implementing the data structure on JavaScript.
The full list you may find in the ✍🏻 https://okso.app/showcase/... showcase.
I hope you find this showcase useful and I hope it will be a good visual cheatsheet-like complement to your data structure knowledge.12 -
Is machine learning not a concept we use any more, everything is called AI?
I did not get the memo about this.16 -
Soon I will be talking about a new communication protocol between Raspberry Pi and Arduino ... At the meeting ... IoT enthusiasts.
I am excited and slightly upset.7 -
Enlightened my colleague on the concept of JS promises, chaining of events, multiple deferrals...
Ah, his code is looking much readable already! -
In my short career, I've seen projects become legacy before their first release. Hell, I've seen proof-of-concept apps turn into technical debt because to management as long as it works we won't rewrite it.
-
Why can't people be more objective on demands?
These people can't fucking grasp the concept of "ask for something" NOOO they have to fucking make an endless black hole stupid speech to tell you to "do x"!!!!
FUCK YOU WHO DO THAT!!
YOU HAVE AN ASSHOLE WHERE SHOULD BE YOUR MOUTH! -
Last year I planned to start a startup. I've started many good things but not the startup yet.
* A new data format
* A new data type
* A new web framework
* A new concept for logging
* And many other opensource tools and libraries2 -
The name of the inventor of the Li-Ion battery is John Goodenough and I think it’s beautiful. His name truly resembles the exact concept of what a lithium rechargeable battery really is.

it was not a technical interview.
just screening.
guy: tell me smth about redis.
me: key value, in memory storage.
guy: more
me: umm, the concept is similar to localStorage in browsers, key value storage, kinda in memory.
guy: so we use redis in browsers?
me: no, I mean the high level concept is similar.
guy: (internally: stupid, fail).3 -
Do you guys have the concept of caller tune in your country?
It's like when someone calls you, they hear a fancy melody (selected by you) instead of tring tring..
What a stupid concept. I pay for that shit and someone else who calls me gets to hear the good music whereas when I call someone, I hear the stupid tring tring or some music that I don't want to hear.
Shouldn't it be like, I pick some tune and whenever I call anyone, I should be able to hear it instead of tring tring because I am paying for it and I love to hear good music?
I am sure the creature who invented the concept was a Raccoon on some cheap acid.15 -
Freshman out of the university started working for me as a php developer. Software Engineer from a major Australian university. First project, a WordPress plugin... Two weeks down the track I had to explain to him the concept of sessions and multiple visitors. WTF are they thought at universities these days?41

Now the real question is are you even allowed to put React in your cv if you've never worked with redux, don't know the concept of HOC and still make pull requests with componentWillReceiveProps ?11

Seriously, fuck sports fans. Imagine having to relate every conceivable concept through a scenario in sport to understand it.
"How does that work?"

mayonnaise.whip()
mayonnaise.append('olive oil')
mayonnaise.append('seasoning' || 'lemon juice')6 -
>>Struck on a stupid concept with very little documentation.
>>Searched for days, finally frustrated and fucked up.
>>Started searching for libraries, found a decent one with good documentation and even a sample usecase.
>> library handles my application completely fine, me happy and motivated again :D
>>opened the library's source code, that was again very nice and simple.
>>Now learnt the concept and implementing it in my app natively . Even opened some issues in the creator's library
>>thank you github :) -
Heard of Electron? There is also Electrino, Electron-like stuff that uses your system's browser instead of embedding full Chrome. A “Hello World” app takes 115 MB using Electron, but only 167 kB using Electrino.
Too bad it's still a proof of concept with almost no features.
https://github.com/pojala/electrino28 -
Google Tag Manager is a complete abomination of UX. The whole concept is just ridiculous, it lacks at least 3 levels of automation. Non-tech people won't be able to use it and for tech people it's laughably inadequate while still being conceptually difficult. A perfect combination of a tool that does too much and too little at the same time.1
-
I promised myself not to fuck too much with new JS frontends. But Sveltes premise seems interesting enough to check it out and the concept of reactive blocks of code in JS sure is interesting.
This language keeps evolving as well as its tooling. I think shit is pretty amazing.14 -
"The space between an idea and a concept is your lips. If you can’t say it out loud you can’t do it. " - Nick Longo

It's annoying when you're approaching the deadline on two separate projects and the AMs for both think their project is the most important. Leave me alone and let me do my job and both projects will get done, pester me and they won't. Pretty simple concept.3

"If it were easy to nut out tricky design problems, I might be out of a job. But it’s also true that the cleverness in most lateral design doesn’t come from blindly grinding away at the same concept. When you’re dealing with ideas, it’s rarely a matter of simply putting in more time working. Five minutes can be much more fruitful than five hours." - Rob Morris1

When somebody demos a new app to the CIO as a functional product but turns out to be a concept prototype made with Origami without any proper code... literally a glorified PowerPoint with animations....3

The project is nowhere near complete, the customers are waiting for demo/proof of concept. the code is spaghetti and I'm burned out.
Oh, and I'm a solo dev.2 -
People are so cheap. I hear people say things like "Frontend Masters is too expensive." I'm pretty sure that I just got 2k of value in the last 3 hours... Maybe those people aren't 'cheap' per say - but more generally, don't understand the concept of value. I'm sure they see that attribute in their clients, but never themselves. Better for me I suppose!4

The Halt and Catch Fire writers and tech experts must have lived those days. Totally nailed it to the finest detail. I am impressed. Show me a 10mg (how will I ever fill it up) Bernoulli platter 😀
Great series but warning it is not a comedy like Silicon. Very different but amazing how some things are same as today in concept.7 -
Adding a proof of concept directly to production and handing it over without a single test is God's blessing.1

I just learned the concept of this thing called REST API and now here's GraphQL showing up on me face. Mother fucking web development hell. BRB. KMS4

working with UX/UI designers who don't understand the concept of style guides or reusable UI components is torturous, why don't they understand things work a bit different in real life than in Photoshop, Illustrator or Sketch

Architect: I know we said we would never do The Thing because doing The Thing is really bad, but can we do The Thing for a proof of concept?
Me: How about Fuck No! Unless you are proposing a solution to fix The Thing, we are NOT doing The Thing just to satisfy some perverse curiosity you may be harboring.4 -
This quote made my day.
"Dependency Injection" is a 25-dollar term for a 5-cent concept. [...] Dependency injection means giving an object its instance variables. [...]."2 -
After I read clean code I talked to a fellow developer about some concepts. Later I reviewed some code of him and he clearly got the concept (not)

In my life I have never had trouble researching a concept... Until now.. Never had so many fruitless endeavours, its getting frustrating.7

Me: I'm going to a hackathon this weekend.
Parents : are you sure it's legal and you won't get into trouble? You know, it seems to involve hacking

Nightly anxiety is a new concept that I'm embracing.
On tonight's episode:
> The boss did not like my work.
> He was being nice when he said it's good work.
> I am a failure and should immediately go and get a degree in nail design and work as a minimum wage nail artist. Or hair dresser. Or even cleaning crew.
... This is fun. 😐18 -
Does anyone else feel that "retirement" is an outdated concept? Our generation will probably never truly retire, not in the same sense that this word meant in 20th century.
Considering how much the government-mandated retirement age went up; most of us will prolly die from continuous stress way before the day of "retirement" comes7 -

Concept: an app that runs on a smartwatch that activates when you disable an alarm (temporarily, not through the settings) and uses the on board sleep sensors to re-enable the alarm so you dont over sleep. But if you do actually wake up the first time, you dont need to disable a second alarm.
I would love to know if this app already exists or if someone is going to make it6 -
Hmm... Okay crazy deadlines. We hacked together a really makeshift application to handle streaming content to end users. The proof of concept was demonstrated to a partner company on a Wednesday. They said they wanted it on Saturday. Our CTO agreed. We didn't sleep.2

Anyone find sequence diagrams useful? I’m working with a BA who loves creating these things—he has a tool he knows and clearly wants to get his money’s worth.
Just seems like busy work to me. Takes more time to understand them than if he just explained the concept in text.8 -
So, we have a chat AIs that can do some basic code regurgitation and can assemble some really basic programs.
What are the chances that business rules and best practices are actually simpler in concept? Could we create an AI that can actually replace managers?
We have heard of people automating a lot of management tasks on this platform. The next step is replacing leads/managers.13 -
I'm a self taught android/Java developer, I have never been to any boot camps. But I have worked with someone who been to one.
It is good for developers who already know the concept of programming and want to improve their skills. -
I want to adopt this habit of coding one fundamental concept/tool/.. every day before/after work. I already started doing it and I've been coding sort algorithms. every morning since last week, in Java.
What do you guys think should go on the list of things to practice regularly ?4 -
I've come to accept the fact that when I first learn a new concept I'm not gonna know what the heck I'm doing with it until I code it for myself and break it and then fix it. Bugs help you learn.1
-
Working in a shared office space, everytime I hear somebody brag about the "AI" they have on their stack, I ask "Really? Can you show me where it sits??" just to see how confused they get thinking it might be a new tech concept.2

Client wants to see his project so he can provide its content.
The product where this is based upon should be a monthly edition of grouped articles.
I've yet to see content for their concept or even legal text that makes sense.
Same person has no idea of the full concept of what he's asking, imho ending up in a Ponzi (which I've switched to a somewhat more logical system, which just might work, but just isn't a get rich quick scheme anymore as he likes to portray it).
Should I just put on a blank page and be done with it, either way?
- Either he gets it, that he needs to fill up the website's content himself
- or he's mad, that I didn't finish the job (while he's the one needing to provide at this point) -
I love exceptions - ANSI C with exceptions - that would be perfect for me.
I know that there are different opinions out there... I can’t understand why they haven’t implemented exceptions into Go. I have read the article why they didn’t but for me... exceptions are a GREAT language concept!!!!3 -
Spent the day working on a concept for a Survival, Twin Stick Shooter, Tower Defence game. not sure if it will work yet, but everyone I have ran my Concept by really likes it.

What technology/concept/programming language did you learn that made you feel way way more brilliant?
Me: Shell scripting, feel like god 😌18 -
I don't understand the concept of drinking tea or coffee. More over why is everyone is so surprised when I say "I don't drink tea or coffee." ??4

So JavaScript/ES6 is kicking my ass. I'm not used to front end development as much. Idk when to use javascript and how. I dont know when I need to manipulate the DOM and how I do it. It's a new concept and I'm hoping PHP isnt gonna have as big of a learning curve..7

So I have been using REST APIs since last 4 years and used this term in lot of technical discussions with backend teams.

Being the only developer in your circle of non-tech friends is weird 😕.
And why are most female programmers not appealing 🤦♂️.
The beautiful ones are usually clueless and can't get into a ”deep programming concept ”conversation.
I guess I can't eat my cake and have it at a time.18 -
Hello, world!
Okay, guys and gals... I need your creative minds. I need a concept for sort of a property manager for my game.. I have an idea of my own, feel free to tear it apart or throw it out the window.
So basically.. You'll no longer have one Computer System (and you wont instantly hit the login screen for that System on startup) Instead, you'll have a lot of things. They will probably only be represented using text and menu's (likely no 3D or 2D environments or anything.. Though, a setup like News Tycoon would be epic, but I think that would be too much for this game.) You'll basically start off with a small space (probably a basement) with x amount of free space. In that space, you'll need to add things like a desk, chair, and a laptop, or tower + monitor. You can also buy things like server rigs with a ton of space, but those are pricy and bulky. Each item costs X amount and takes up X amount of space. Also, you'll need a desk for a monitor (or multiples..) and other things.. (Like your rubber duck collection ;P JK) You can also rent and manage servers. (renting is more exspensive in the long run, but things on your server are not on your property. But, if you own a server on your property you can rent space to to NPCs) As well as manage your devices, properties, stocks, etc..
Also, there will be in-game time. Depending on how "comfortable" you are will determine how long you can stay up in a day. In-game events will take place later on at specific times so staying up (or not..) will need to be managed well. Especially if you're being targeted by a rival (NPC) hacker.7 -
Well, i when I was 13 I thought that a bit extra knowledge before programming in school would be nice, so I bought a book about the basics of java. The books never mentioned the concept of an IDE, so I just used the windows editor and command lines.
And yes, you guessed right, the battles with the compiler were furious. -
Fuck... I hate these moments. Yesterday I received a new project from one of my customers... this is great, but now is 4am and I can't stop to think a concept to how implement it. I know that this will bring also a lot of money but really, I hate when I have to think also the night. Today I've school and it will be a fucking day. I can't stop to think a good concept and a connection between elements. Sorry I am just frustrated3
-
Am on my way to a Meetup, giving a talk on a database class I've designed - bit different to the norm - hope they like the concept I came up with!
-
Me: "ok let's have a look at this code I have to review ..."
try
{
* Some random unreadable overcomplicated shit code *
}
catch (Exception e)
{
// Useful for debug
}
😓
In which God forsaken crazy alternative universe, a "catch all" block that swallows the exception and does nothing else is even slightly close to the concept of "useful for debug"3 -
Our OS instructor gave us a written assignment about concept of Bootstrap, some of my course mates copy about BOOTSTRAP CSS(Front-end) at least 3 pages and the deadline is now2
-
I just came up with an idea while writing and I can't share it because I really need to trademark it first 😛😂
-
I already built a compiler and an interpreter.
ONLY ON THE THIRD TRY I realize that the hard part is the language design. lets hope Gerlang3.0 will turn out usable lol

(As of Tuesday at 10:00 PM) We have a project with a hard due date Sunday.
We have yet to get a proof of concept finished.
My team has no grasp on reality or how long this project is going to take.
I'm screwed. -
There's only three endgame situations I can imagine: Become fuel for AI's projects, become some kind of pet or archived memorabilia thing stored in a vat of amniotic fluid, or merge brain and be human-AI hybrid.
Don't know if the concept of "job" is still meaningful in any of those scenarios.4 -
Pro tip: don’t accept a meeting with a potential employer for the beginning of your holidays (I know, ’muricans, you don’t get this concept where basically everyone taked paid vacation for several weeks during summer) so that you’ll end up thinking about whether to jump ship or not for most of your holidays, effectively ruining your time to potentially relax for you.
Just don’t do it. -
I start with the broad concept first.
"In the end, the application needs to do <this>. Okay. In order to get to <this> the application first has to know <that>".
Then, I just keep breaking this down until I get to the bits and pieces. I see the forest and then zoom in on the trees.1 -
Respect to all women in CS. They are in fact better when it comes to clean code and concept.
Prof. Kamala Krithivasan, is teaching some hardest shit in CS.

Yes!!!! My AI has been born tonight...He may not "compete" yet but the foundation and concept is written and sound...now to just fill in the conditions and variables and he's going to be kicking player's butts in no time!2 -
Turn my partner's idea into fruition. I'm trying GameMaker since the concept is a text based 2d game.1
-
You know just what I love my evening novel to be? Documentation of software, written by someone who clearly doesn’t understand what the fuck this is all on about. Literally created a cyclic paragraph (end of paragraph -> see also paragraph b : end of paragraph b -> see paragraph a) without having explained the concept at all.
Why just whyyy3 -
I recently started a new job, where they introduced me to the concept of being handed a low-level technical design.
They've hired me to be a keyboard monkey. -
As silly as it sounds, but migrating our company's web application from Ember/JSON API --> React/GraphQL would be a pretty solid achievement.
We're almost to read-only feature parity at the moment with a single developers side time as a proof of concept. -
All u need is C folks seriously fuck the OOP concept you waste more time in a paradigm dilemmas than writing functional code. And that’s a damn fact.
I feel sorry for the mobile developers that are stuck using the OOP methodology6 -
I have an interview for a Mobile Dev Trainee position with me classmates. I'm a web guy. I have no idea what has been going on with mobile dev while I was away. But this is opportunity. Halp! What to do to not screw it up? I understand the concept of making API calls somehow. Maybe, that would halp?1
-
So I'm working on a project with another developer and a frontend guy. Now the frontend guy has the lead as the other dev and I can only do our job based on his work. So he had 3 months to deliver us the first part BUT has rarely been in communication. When he does email he just says "designing concept "FOR 3 FUCKING MONTHS" Now we are 1 week before the project is due for delivery and he is saying that he will send us over the concept this FRIDAY!! 3days days before project is due.........................................................................................AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHRBFKDBDKSJRUDISNCFKSORVEOFBFOWBFFKDKWNDB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2
-
My (almost) everyday work is a total fail. I hate my coworker. He's making decisions too fast, based on emotions, not learning on his mistakes, making many false assumptions and so on... Fuck, I hate working with him and I'm sick when I need to explain any advanced concept to him1
-
I hate all of the OS/langs circlejerks. I think anyone participating in them (in a serious manner) needs to fucking grow up and learn the concept of tools. TL;DR for any OS/lang discussion: Use the right tools for the right job.3

Update Your Servers!
Critical vulnerabilities found on Win Servers via RD gateways. Here is a source for the proof of concept: https://github.com/ollypwn/BlueGate5 -
I have a question for you guys and gals.
Why did you start coding?
For me, it was because I find the thought of making something that has never existed amazing. Truly amazing. Possibly changing the world from behind one screen is an exciting concept for me6 -
I just found out, there is a GCC flag that prevents you from using integers in a bool context in C.
Like wtf?!
Not only is this the original "bool" implementation of C, but it's also a widespread concept for use in NULL checks and the likes.5 -

That dude that doesn't really understand the concept of cariables and hardcodes a caesar encryption/decryption.

Just for my curiosity. On your trackpad / mouse, do you've a natural scroll or a reverse one? I find very well with the reverse scroll but I have read that the natural one should be the preferred because of the concept

C is love, C is life.
Great language.
I genuinely don't get why so many people are struggling with pointers, considering it's a pretty straightforward concept. I understand that they can be complex in simplicity, but the concept itself is much easier to understand than say, references in OOP languages(despite being the same thing under the hood).
I mean it's just a number like any other number, except that number is treated as a memory address, and the star(* - dereference operator) just takes a value, goes to the memory address that is the value, and takes a value from there.
I feel like most explanations and tutorials just try to over complicate it for no reason.27 -
analogy for overfitting :
cramming a math problem by heart even the digits of any problem for exam.
now if the exact same problem comes to exam i pass with full marks else if just the digits are changed however the concept is same and simce i mugged up it all rather than understanding it i fail. -
Create a p2p version of Google Maps / OpenStreetMap that uses people's browsers to store the map tiles of "their region".
Started already by building a proof-of-concept called p2p-fetch[1] (uses GunDB under the hood) and mixing it with the awesome Leaflet library.
[1] https://github.com/davide/p2p-fetch2 -
I would hack the heck out of Roslyn Analyzers! Everything that could be f*ckin detected at compile-time _would_ be f*cking detected at compile-time. All those freaking config files usages, or attributes/reflection. Analyzers for everything, with sensible error messages! (Although I realize I that's overstretching the concept of unlimited time)
-
First go through any getting started guides or introductory tutorials. Then depending on comfort level and available time, either start exploring further on your own or search for more advanced tutorials.
Try to make use of what you learned, either at work or in hobby projects or small proof of concept programs, as the case may be. -
I remember when I first heard about the general concept of a stack, I wasn't quite sure how you would use it.
Now im learning about stacks in java algorithms class as well as learning about how the memory stack works in assembly class. This probably seems small to you pro devs, but ngl, it kinda blew my mind how useful this structure can be.1 -
Quick question, because I have no idea how to Google it. The "block coding" concept that scratch is built upon, does anyone know if it's copyrighted in any way?
Working on a project, where I'm thinking of implementing something like it.5 -

Do you think it is worth learning functional programming and specifically haskell. It seems like a really good concept, but a lot of people claim that it's not applicable in real scenarios.12 -
I'm absolutely fuming why on earth would someone try to apply exactly all rules of a theoretical concept. I hate those so called "scrum masters". We can't apply all rules of agile we're not machines. There's real life and theory.1

I don’t understand blockchain enthusiasts. I even spent some time studying the concept and application examples. Most of the time they use private networks removing the concept of distribution, many other times regular database and signature techniques would be cheaper and more practical and anyway these ready made solutions are actually black boxes for the final users because messing around with blockchain would require too much skills… But if you have to trust these black boxes, you could actually just trust any centralized service… I really can’t understand…10

Today I have practically learned the concept of geometric progression. A db table of 5 Gb now it's 500 Mb.3

Sometimes, switching coding languages can be bad if they are the same "kind".
Found myself trying to use C# concept, keywords and syntax while doing Java.
That can be kinda frustrating when one is your main language at work and the other is just for side personnal project1 -

I'm working on a concept for an efficiency/speed focused networking project.
Any recommendations for low-level languages that support networking that can be run on both windows and Linux with relative easy?
Thanks in advance!5 -
Another dev concept butchered by business people:
BDD, but does not integrate into any tests, uses arbitrary language and format, covers only happy path...
Kill me now, please1 -
I think I am in love with Progressive Web Apps concept and user experience with mobile operating systems, as it is easy to install (as simple as a shortcut on home screen). Just want to know if there are any downsides of using it? Compared to full app install?
I would love to see some games which can be played offline as PWA6 -
concept: a PCI/PCI-e/SATA/IDE device allowing for booting from a "HDD" which is, in reality, EPROM. Not EEPROM, EPROM. For purposes of, say, having an uninfectable copy of HBCD 15.2 or HBCD 10 PE you can insert and forget about without consuming a USB slot or disc drive.2

Question about GPG:
So I understood the concept and successfully applied it to my Gitlab, but how helpful is it?
From what I understood it helps detecting which commits are from verified authors and which are from just someone who has access?
I'd appreciate if someone explains more on how helpful it is :)5 -
So happy!
I made my first project (or at least started) using my iPad (with some help from my laptop).
I am trying to make it possible for web comic artists to upload their comics without any text in the speech bubbles and then load the text using javascript for the specific locale.
It’s in an early stage (a few hour old) and the editor and the viewer share data only with cookies and local storage instead of a server but it's still a concept.
What do you think?

self refrencing tables awesome concept but it pisses me off that mysql doesnt support "select with" query i had to think about writing recusive functions that builds a tree of n level i must say im kinda proud :p2

Trying to implement DDD into this current project of mine but the whole concept of converting Eloquent objects into plain entities seems to be more work than it is worth.
But the whole methodology of DDD also seems rather complicated.2 -
So, my simulations started to take about a week to complete.
Productively invested the time in getting into Python!
I'm really liking its syntax and relative simplicity (coming from c++) and I'm kinda digging it at a sort of proof-of-concept producer: instead of talking in pseudocode I can just put down a python script to show what I mean. -
Who the heck made this concept of exams. Don't wanna study for my sessional which will be in next 10 hrs. I am screwed😭😫2
-
Css positioning is harder to understand than the full OOP concept.
So i wanted to create a very simple page with a single css file. I spent 2 hours to position the buttons in the fixed header and center some things.
I got the whole OOP concept with abstraction, polymorphism and inheritance in an hour and could use it right after without problems.
Holy shtcake i never want to do frontend.8 -
Does anyone else here think the regulating and centralising of crypto currencies and tokens worrying?
It is slowly being bent to the will of the higher ups just like traditional fiat and they’re burying its fundamental altruistic design concept without providing and means for it to be assimilated into benefiting the daily lives of the masses an especially the unbanked.5 -
These days I now spend more time each week fucking about with Docker and VMs than I ever did when we were setting up the local environments ourselves.
I love the concept of Docker, but it seems to create more problems than it solves.2 -
I have the concept of making and selling NFGs to people. I suppose it would use some blockchain. Some initial NFGs I would like to sell:
- I don't give a fuck.
- Don't worry, be happy.
- Live and let live.
- Shit happens.
- Whatever...bitch.
I suppose some good memes could work as well. Not just slogans.
Please add to the NFG collection.1 -

I better go back to the basics.

Why the ever loving fuck does Windows take MORE ram to close a fucking program, than to run it. I'm STOPPING a fucking operation. There is nothing about this concept that requires more processing or memory. When I click the fucking close button, you're supposed to free up memory and stop running shit. Not the opposite.3

What if we have a AI that will build code what ever we say?
Is it be a new concept or new programming , it would so easy to build any software.
Maybe in a future some one will do this I hope.3 -
We need to test the last step in our proof-of-concept chain before putting our project proposal... but just before testing what we believe will be (finally) a functioning scenario, the key service we need and have no influence over stopped working. I am pretty sure, it will start working like 5 minutes before I usually leave.. one has to love this waitNRush development.
-
TLDR; Please give me some feedback on the design (again)
So guys, a while back I posted a post (link in comments) with a design for a concept app for poules.
Now I've processed some feedback from you guys and from some friends. Meaning I added some gradients and made the design way easier. Here is the newer version!3 -
In my Java project, I added a wiremock rule to a few tests. Now my Jacoco code coverage in sonar dropped to 0%. 😩 Maven is running the goals, bit not creating the jacoco.exec file.
That's one of the worst things in Java. Once you understood the concept of immutables, the build tools start to annoy you.2 -
I really don't like the approach that the elementary OS developers took to their system. A closed system like that is antithetical to the whole concept of building on an established base... Which is what they're bloody well doing in the first place!4
-
Obviously the concept of right and wrong don't apply here
Trying to take care of my health is not wrong especially when the problem is due to negligence on behalf of other people.3 -
The first prototype of my graduation project is complete.
It is only proof of concept to show that the system works.
Therefore, the design looks like that and needs to be recreated, before handing over the project
System: Sensor data -> Cloud backend -> client software.
Please feel free to comment or giv feedback, but would like some productive feedback/comments thanks :)

Something along the lines of the Freenet project (I think it was called). That thing has always interested me - especially the privacy and decentralised structure of the concept. I'd make it a world wide thing and get it to every country in every place I could.

Then learn how to use diff/patch.
Then learn Git.

poor me 😂😂😂😂3 -
So... An MVP is nothing that a prof of concept that you have to develop for yesterday but then it should evolve and be maintained and upgraded forever (keeping the profit and ahead of competition) .
No wonder developers quit!3 -
Spent all afternoon trying to make CI work for my own personal website, trying out a new concept, that I call Frontend only, it restores, builds, but fails to deploy with connection dropped after a few seconds... Small experimental demo using JS, CSS and a bit of PHP.
http://abitus.net/tests/...
The code, all mixed in a unique ~600 lines 'index.php' file, is ugly af. But I was mostly interested by the concept here, so it's really intended to be a dumb prototype.
However I think this works. The idea was to use a conceptual design solution in order to show links temporality when it is based on their popularity. More a link gets clicked, more bigger and slower it will be.
There's still a lot to improve. It could work with images or even more complex contents like articles. Just a matter of improving the UI.
Please feel free to play with it and give your opinion. What do you guys think of the concept ?1 -
I start website with Databases, it work well but I want to upgrade with new feature.

Why? I just found the concept of platform silos to be dumb. I want my creations to be experienced by as many people as possible. -
Ahhhhh.... Now i want to really know how developers make softwares, ROMs, chatbots using ML and all these type of stuff.
- When i go through the guide for making ROM for a smartphone or a chatbot the writer asks the reader to take the code from github, everybody just give github link and move on. None tells how the developer wrote that bunch of code. I really want to learn core concepts behind all this. I know how to code but i can't apply it in real life applications. For me there is no bridge which connects coding to end products. I don't know what to do next?4 -
My head is about to explode... Trying to wrap my head around the best way for integrating a suitable frontend solution with a symfony backend.

Anybody know where to find the bluesniff android app? It used to be able to see undetectable bluetooth devices. I go to the apk download pages and it is just gone. Working with nightly builds and concept tech is such a fucking hassle...
I'm currently working on a WebAssembly proof of concept where I need to generate a unique id, but since threading is currently not supported (rust and webassembly) I cant use half of the libraries currently out.
And the ones that does work... guess what... are not compatible with the nightly build of the compiler I'm using for Rust. Just fucking end me.
The legit only workaround I can find is to make a server request and get the unique id from there... piece of cunt software...I need a break 😑 -
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I believe in theoretical study prior to proof of concept.
At least for me, it takes me a 100 times more time to make a proof of concept the 'quick and easy' way rather than properly studying the theoretical knowledge and then applying it.
For example, it took me one and a half months to build a small website in ReactJS without much prior knowledge. It took me exactly one day performing the same task when I properly had studied all its internals and theoretical knowledge before I started.
If I know what I'm doing, I can easily create; if I don't, then I'm just messing around, looping myself into problems ad infinitum.

❓Question:
I've recently been introduced to reactive programming, and I'm wondering some things about it
- How new of a concept is it?
- Can it be declared as a third type of programming compared to OOP & FOP?
- How common is it? -
What's the name of that protocol that federated social media software implements? ActivityPub? well, what ever the name is I know it does not implement any concept for fitness specific social updates (like this app Hevy does)

Dokku, Flynn, Deis Workflow, Datacol, nanobox.
Does anyone have experience with one of these? Do you recommend any?
I have been amazed by Heroku concept, however, Heroku prices seem to be a bit pricey. I have a production app to be produced in the following weeks, and I was thinking about getting a Public Cloud machine from OVH with one of the tools above.
Any suggestions? -
you might have watched The Matrix 1, 2,3 & 4 how do you feel the concept and the story to be applied to our existing life?16

So, I don't get the concept of dockfile. I understand it and what it does but, I learnt about it a few weeks back. Is it so important and necessary?10

While conceptualizing, coming up with the best idea is like meeting your soul-mate. It just feels right.

You should not think of yourself as a person as much as a concept.
For example, I think I grew out of my antigermanist phase. German people are fine.
My new concept is "let's do anal", a line of t-shirt.
Thank you.1 -
Does anyone has experience with the VIPER architecture pattern on iOS and Swift? Or has a more experienced example project than a simple two views app? I’m currently using MVVM-C with router. I would like to still keep the concept of the coordinates in VIPER, is it a redundancy? A bad choice? or do I missed a part?8
