Brain, stop. Please just stop coming up with new ideas for one fucking second.
I wish I could implement them all but I have never finished a side project ever.
Please. Just. Fucking. Give. Me. A. Fucking. Rest. Right. Now. And. Stop, Coming. Up. With. New. Project. Ideas.

When you start a new project.
You create a new directory.
You start the IDE and create a new application project.
You type just 5 lines of code for testing it.
Then you compile and run.
Nothing happens...
You abort and retry.
Nothing happens...
Half a minute later a window pops up and Norton reports you that an executable has been removed because its suspicious and has a lack of reputation!!!11 -

Hi all! I've finally published my first open source project!
I give to you, The Web Toolbox! https://thewebtoolbox.cc/
A few years ago I used to make heavy use of thetoolbox.cc, but unfortunately it went offline. I thought I'd revive the project and improve upon the previous version.
I'm going to be adding new tools soon, and I'm really looking forward to any suggestions from the community.
Hope you all find it useful :)6 -

New country, new company, new team, new projects.
I'm supposed to be the TL of a team working on a React project.
A guy in his late 40s celebrates himself as "the senior", he basically just finished watching a youtube thing, React 101 crash course or similar. The other two juniors who did only Wordpress so far venerate him like a god.
The code, of course, is one on the finest pieces of crap I ever had the pleasure to deal with in my life: naturally a bunch of JQuery plugins for everything, no tests, no state management, side effects everywhere, shared state and globals like hell, everything written in ES3/ES5 style, no types, no docs, build and deploy totally manual, deep props drilling at every level... and not to mention the console.log() shipped in prod.
First day, already headache.
Full rewrite start tomorrow.
Hiring real devs as well.4 -
Current project:
A fairly simple and basic single page-ish project with no framework at all.
No backend or database.
No jQuery.
Plain old Gulp task, npm scripts and Webpack.
Some parallax and other scrolling effects.
Client is actually a pretty simple, cool and understanding guy.
This is too easy.
What is this madness??4 -

Hey Guys,
I just started work on a new (personal) project for my portfolio and I don't know too much about design, so I'm hoping you guys can give me some feedback.
The project is going to be an app that the user can use to create a Poule (basically something like this but smaller: https://poules.com/us).
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Also tell me if you'd want to use this type of app with your friends!6 -

Wrote some code. Didn't work.
Cleared all build caches, deleted project files and re-opened the project from scratch. Code still doesn't work.
Copied the same code over to a new project. Works.
I FUCKING HATE DAYS LIKE THESE!!!2 -
I begin by just writing my ideas and them attempting to roughly image their execution in my head, and then start to write the code. I found this method to pose the smallest amount of holdups and issues. Of course, you might have to rethink some procedures but it mostly works.

my boss some months ago: so there is this new project, and we're planning to slowly fade in and gradually increase the time you guys work on this project
new pm last week: welcome to the project, you're now 100% allocated to the new project, that's your highest prio now
me: ...what about the other projects? they might have questions xD
pm: don't worry about that, dealing with that is not your job
my boss this week: yeah no, the other releases are most important for our company. the new project needs to be subordinated and has lower prio, at least lower prio than critical and highly prioritized bugs.
me: so.... who decides which items from which projects i shall prioritize higher than the new project and how much time i shall spend on them?
my boss: it is your job to talk to people, give them estimates and tell them how many items you can work on, so they can decide which items they pick
so basically i'm having the feeling that i need to manage myself here. it will be fun to attend the new project daily standups and tell the new pm all the time that i couldn't do anything because i had no time. anyone else with this experience? is this normal? actually i liked our new pm's attitude "dealing with that is not your job". i should have known it was too good to be true ^^'5 -
Project management 101:
1) For a new project, pretend it is similar to a project in currently in development
2) Proudly state that everything can be copied from the older project, so the schedule of the new can be tightened
3) Calculate the new schedule based on the "just copy and paste" effort.
4) Now the new project will be finished before the older project
5) Enjoy the applause from upper management for the successful project that hasn't even begun yet.
No, this does not belong in the joke category.
That's gonna be fun...1 -
My new project is not getting popular... I'm sad because I've spent a lot of time thinking about it and creating it and it's bothersome that it isn't appreciated.9

Announcing Covey (v0.1)!
A lightweight (or at least that's the goal) Linux cluster orchestration/management system.
https://github.com/chabad360/covey
Why?
Because there are no systems with a (web) GUI (that I could find) that can run on a Raspberry Pi or similar.
This doesn't have a GUI!
It's coming in the next week or so (hopefully).
The codebase is shit!
I know, I'm actively refactoring it (feel free to send a PR).
What is it written in?
Go, with Postgres as the database.
Can I use it?
Go ahead and try, it's currently more in the MVP stage then at the stage where I recommend you use it.
Do you know what you're doing?
Maybe... This is my first big project in Go, and the first time I've ever used SQL. So I'm learning as I go along.9 -
A new project kicked off, where a new feature will be added to our app. The mythical creature called "Project Manager" asked us to take OT's and weekend work to rush and finish it. Aaaare you f*ckin' kiddin' meeee??!2

Had junior devs work on a new feature on a project I spent days fixing. They spent days on the new feature but built it off of the broken version of the project and never pulled from the repository. How is it called when I rant about something my colleagues experienced and I just supported his debug session? Third party rant? Anyway, here's the thing.
Other team built some project specific code right in the heart of their software, which in itself would be worth a rant. But as you might guess, it's getting rantier.
For a new project the same code is used, but needed some tweaks. Now guess what happened:
1) Someone took the code, refactored it, made project specific stuff configurable, everything works fine now
2) Someone changed the code completely for the new project, everything seems to work fine for 5 months, then the old project needed a new release 💣 -

So, I've been working on a new project, it's basically a java library/package/jar with a lotta nice gadgets and stuff in.
The current functionality is limited, but will expand more as time goes on.
Right now it's able to:
apply ARGB filters to images (changing ARGB values), save objects in files on disk(Serializer/Deserializer), send emails with working create/load/unload configuration-system which saves a user-config to a file, loads and works with it, but the most coolest thing...

However when even the hint of a new project rolls in I start "pre-developing" in anticipation and excitement of a new project. Development and base design of a project is what keeps me going.

I just started a new job where in my onboarding, I’m supposed to learn typescript and react. I am also supposed to gain some knowledge of databases. Since I am so new, I don’t really have any meetings. I see my manager maybe 2x a day. I’ve been using my time at work to learn these technologies.
I learn best by doing projects. I recently built a bot that scrapes media off of one site and posts it on another site. I was thinking I could create a react front end in typescript for the bit. I would also add a database to my project (the model for the front end) which contains the post history of the bot.
Would that be appropriate for work? I thought it would be good project to help me learn react. However, I am new to the “corporate” world and I feel like my manager won’t want me to waste company time on my side project.
The only other responsibilities I have are reviewing the source code and watching some onboarding videos6 -
New project last week*
Today:
Client asked for the trello board of the new project, but I didn't manage to create it because the requirements are vague.
Finished setting up the board today and clutched everything.
Lesson learned: pressure is key 😂 -
3 days of workshops with new client done - happy days😊
Now starts the real project and the possible agony of dealing with all the things they forgot to mention and/or priorities to us🤘🏻🖖🏻1 -
So I'm going to have to give an estimate for how long this new project is going to take. It's about time I learn how to properly estimate projects. Or does the learning only happen with more experience? 🤔3

So I've made the code public for a tool that I've made using React and Electron. This tool does periodic calls to CircleCI to get the builds that are running. I made this tool because at my job I have two circleci accounts, one via Bitbukkit and the other on GitHub. By running this tool I can get the previous build numbers in a pinch without needing to open up another tab or logging out and then back into another account to get the builds. None the less, Enjoy.

oh and by the way, do you have bandwidth for a new project? :/1 -
Android studio is a fucking demon that clings to your projects' soul.
>> Was working on project "a"
>> Thought of doing something different, but didn't wanted to create a whole new project or integrate changes here, so simply copied the project in a new folder "a_copy".(even copied the cache for faster build)
EXPECTATIONS :
1) i will be simply working on a copy of the project.
2)every changes made in a_copy will remain in a_copy.
3) when trying to build and run , my old app will be updated with new changes.
4) And if those changes doesn't fit, i will be simply removing a_copy files, going back to unaltered project "a" .
5) Building and running project "a" will update my previously updated app back to old state
REALITY :
1) ANY CHANGES MADE INTO PROJECT a_copy ARE REFLECTED BACK TO PROJECT "a" ! EVEN WHEN PROJECT "a_copy" IS CLOSED!
2) NO CHANGES OCCUR IN "a_copy", it remains in the same state as that of "a_copy", before all those changes got reflected!!
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? its like studio treated the whole project copy as some windows shortcut?!?!1 -
Check out my new project :D It's under active development!

New ERP project has been going for 1.5 years. Project team comes to me asking to create an import process from old ERP to new ERP in 4 months, oh we need data loaded into Test today so we can complete end-to-end user testing. Project team doesn't have any requirements documented or know what data is needed in new ERP. I have never used/seen either ERP system. Project team keeps changing what is required in the new ERP weekly, and they don't understand why all the imports into new ERP are bad.

Today I escape from the clutches of the legacy iOS project ive been stuck in for about a year and a half.
Starting on a new team, totally different stack (TypeScript/Angular).
Its bad that what makes me happiest is that we have unit tests, something thats been missing from my life for so long now. I might actually get to do TDD now.
Life is good. -
- Learn at least one new programming language
- Start a new personal project
- Push things into my GitHub
- Complete one certification
- Exercise
- Practice mindfulness
- Read atleast 1 book per quarter -
say you're thinking about starting a new project, you have the basics but not really expert in all the aspects required by the project and decided to open source it. how would you get the project more visibility which means more people involved ?4

So. As some of you may remember. I got a new job. However! I didn't end up taking it. They ended up terminating my current boss and gave me his job (and salary to boot).
They then told me to begin rebuilding the department and expanding it, something my old boss was not a fan of.
What tips do you guys have for building and managing a team? I've never ran one before. So I'm looking for advice on a project management platform. We are a C# shop so If it has nice integration into VS all the better.
Thank you and rant on! I am sure I will have some ranting about hiring and junior fuckups soon!2 -
Gets really excited thinking about possible new project.
Starts work on it.
2-3 days interest still there.
Gets bored after and puts project on halt.1 -
...when your project TODO list is growing exponentially and you just give up tracking new ideas/feature requests

Alright so this is just me throwing my thoughts down from today cause I need some outlet.
Gonna start programming a lot more than I do now cause I want to improve and I enjoy it.
I started my JavaScript course and that's going well so far. I need to figure out a way to make the info stick. I'm gonna def use the projects from each day as resources though.
I need to practice python (which I'm good with) occasionally so I dont lose my magic touch. I was thinking of doing a project on a raspberry pi that uses a camera for object/facial recognition and picking projects like that and occasional small ones I do in js.
Although theres still a lot I have to learn on the DOM side of js. I dont want to be a front end dev cause I dont have that artistic eye so I'm mostly gonna use it for node and small front end stuff
But mostly I need to be able to grasp more from tutorials, examples, courses, etc. And understand how and when and why I should use whatever it is.
Also I wanna use someones code to learn but it's never documented well enough for me to know what's happening I'm mostly referring to when theres a library or api I'm unfamiliar with.
Also JS is getting a little boring so hopefully python will help dull that feel6 -
Working on new project, and reading "good practices" before starting the project and following them...
Until the client wants me to do it fast...
Fuck sakes -
I'm needing an idea for a new project. I began tinkering with one of my old C# projects and I'm just **disgusted** with the amount of crap in there.
What do you guys think, should I finish it or move on?
Any good ideas on how to find another idea for a new project?3 -
What does a previous sprint hangover feel like?
When it's quite hard to start working on a new project after another project (new sprint)... "Ok, I'll start in 15 minutes"... "Ok, in another 30 minutes", so on and so forth!!! :-P -
@Work: Every new project, we need a new server for CI/CD...
Whiteboard + bets on how many weeks it will take to get some servers provided.undefined java python network continues delivery servers networking migration continues integration integration -
Start a project with new idea that will totally work. Rinse and repeat every 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months 😅
-
Not a rant per se, but starting to feel like a gypsy in work. If there is a new project/current project that has a looming deadline, I appear to be the one tasked with making it happen! I only started in the new company, then a month into it was moved, then about another month into the new project, I now have to create a brand new project and have it done in two days

So I'm trying to learn Rust and I want to do like a simple project with it but I have no clue what..

new project != new wonderfull creative ideas but rather new project = lots of procrastination and over analyzing
-
Project manager, knows nothing/little about the project... Always sends new features to be added only to be removed 1hr later 😣😣, you have experienced nothing until you work under 1
-
Any tips on working with Laravel? I've got a new Web project and I figured it's a good time to learn.

Ended up with the same project structure of my previous projects.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it I suppose. -

coding is weird. a third party code you integrated successfully in past will simply integrate no more in new project.
-
Tmw you look at something and instantly get a new project idea.
This is why I have so many unfinished projects. -
Now make a new project in Django... Ok some file autogenerated and now I'll start.
