To all new devs:
- Your language of choice is fine.
- There is no superior way to indent, yours is fine.
- Your IDE is fine.
- Your OS is fine.
Unless you work in my team, of course.18 -

Me: Mom, I'm learning a new programming language
Mom: How is it called
Me: go
Mom: do u like it?
Me: yes, it's pretty
Mom: do u like it more than linux?41 -
At introduction of new class teacher asked which _one_ of the following isn't a programming language:
- Swift
- Pseudocode
- Haskell
- HTML
Took my chance on HTML, but apperantly pseudocode is less of a programming language according to him.30 -
*sees new trendy language*
- language is as fast as c
- cross platform
- extensive libraries, tools and tutorials
- easy to learn
- conceptually well thought-out
*doesn't like syntax*
oh well...19 -
When learning a new language replace "Hello world" with "Hello darkness my old friend". Sounds more appropriate.4
-
This is an old screen that I took some years ago and never had a good place to share...
Hope this helps someone to choose the right language :D

I enjoy coding. Whether it's a language I know or learning a new one. The problem is that I can't actually focus on a language to master or decide on a career path.18
-
Fun fact: "wix" of wix.com in German language phonetically translates to a vulgar word for masturbation. Not only describes my feeling towards services like these but also gives new meaning to the "do it yourself" mentality.8

For new or young devs
If you think you're like a 8/10 in a language........ you're probably a 2

Learning a new language is like first time doing sex, it's hard at the beginning but when you start doing it right you just want more and more! :) good morning guys !!4

Google I/O: And now web add a new language to Android...
Me: Golang, golang, golang...
I/O: Kotlin!!!!!!!
Me: What?????? Another language?!?!12 -
Got a new job as a Full Stack Engineer. Moving to a new city. Feeling extremely nervous and a bit scary (cause I don't speak the language). Sitting here browsing devRant to ease up and relax.9
-
Never try to learn a new platform that uses a language you are not really comfortable with while expecting to build something during an hackathon.
Never.3 -
Me : *is bad at coding in C, java, Scala, swift and basically every other language*
Also me : time to learn a new language !4 -
Am I being completely ignorant? I like to think of programming like construction (worked for 9 years in that industry) when I learn a new language I approach it the same way as using a new tool. I don't feel like I'm learning a new "trade", just a new way to do the same things i already know how to do using a different method. I feel like a lot of programmers have trouble picking up new languages/frameworks because the THINK it is completely new...where as learn a new TRADE (devops, database arch, design etc) is something completely new/different6
-
Boss: Who knows C#?
Me: I've heard of the language...
Boss: Perfect.
Sends me (a JS dev) to a week long course to implement a gateway in c#.
So I say to myself, who cares, I will learn a new language.
Apparently the lady in charge of the course mixed up between c# and c++
Funny thing is, the other participants are complaining that they shouldn't be in this course cause they don't know the language...5 -
New programming language alarm!
The V Language sets the goal to compete with Rust and Go. It's main advantage is appearantly it's efficiency and speed. You can build a basic web server with only 65kb file size.

I love coming back to old code from when I was learning a new language and cleaning it up/making it better. It confirms that’s I’ve learned something :)4
-
Learning a new programming language:
1. reading basics
2. creates small programs
3. plan new projects
4. search everything else in the internet
5. output: we have become code gods
*winks at stack overflow and github*5 -
Bonus points if you also wrote it in a language entirely new to you, or even in entirely different paradigm. (In my case Haskell.)11
-
I am going to create a new language called Yoda that is identical to Java but it has no exception handling and no for loops.6

Goals for 2019
- get a Raspberry Pi
- Land a job in development
- graduate
- get my driver's license
- buy a car
- learn a new language (any suggestions?)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE 🎇🎉11 -
I wonder why there is a new JavaScript framework every 10 minutes. Could the issue be with the JS language itself?
Naaaaaaaah .... Impossible .....23 -
Wish me luck!
If you wanna learn with me I'd love some company.
If you got some great tips let me know!4 -
When you have to learn a new language so you can learn a framework so you can learn to integrate with an app you about to learn how to make.1
-
- Get comfortable with a new programming language
- Move our company away from PHP
- Practice guitar at least 8h a week4 -
Am I the only one who's sick of seing "new revolutionary language" from google & co that solves absolutely nothing but is becoming trendy because of the company's name?13
-
I have just started learning C# having previously known only Python. It's a learning curve - why is there so much syntax!? 😬18
-
My advisor: Can you teach Lean to these juniors?
Me: When shall we start?
Him: In two weeks.
Me: Sure.
And that's how I learn a new language in two weeks!5 -
I think I've reached a new level of procrastination, where I write the whole program in a comment in pseudocode instead of actually writing it in a programming language.5
-
When you are googling something about Parse.com for a new language and the first 35000 results are "how to parse $something in $language"4

The brand new language - C thru
In this C language you have a lot of new statements and thats all ;)3 -
I'm embarrassed to say I'm a php programmer. Time to learn a new language. No offense to any php lovers out there. All love ❤8
-
Dear Swift, we have to break up. I’ve found a new language to love. Oh don’t act so surprised, you know our relationship was on shaky ground. You never let me have any fun. You’re always telling me what to do and how to do it and I’ve had enough. You treat me like a child, and I’m moving on.
Things were good in the beginning, and you may have impressed me with your automatic reference counting, but my new language can do that too, and so much more, and does it faster than you could ever imagine. You see unlike you, my new language doesn’t boss me around. It *trusts* me, Swift. That’s the one thing you never could understand. I need to be trusted; and know that I can trust in you.
Well I can’t. Not anymore, Swift. It’s over. My new language just treats me better than you ever could. I’m sorry it came to this but I deserve better than you Swift. We’ve both known this for a long time.
I wish you the best, but you probably shouldn’t call.
I’m with Rust now.1 -
Anybody else physically write notes when studying a new programming language? I do it because it really helps solidify the information in my brain and also makes for good reference.8
-
I came across this new Language I never heard of.
It's amazing, solid gold!
https://github.com/ErisBlastar/...7 -
There's always that great feeling of accomplishment when you finish a project.
Even if it is only 23 lines.
And FizzBuzz...
But it's in a new language and you mostly did it with your own logic!4 -
Got my first PR merged into a library for a new language(Elixir) I started working on!! Wah pah!! 😎1
-
When confronting a new language: "how does this work? i don't understand it's syntax. I'm not going to achieve nothin in life"6
-
Never get too comfortable with a language or technology. By the time you master it, it'll probably change. Be adaptable and always be willing to learn new things.
-
Everytime I try to learn a new language/framework I google "fuck <language> reddit", "why <framework> sucks reddit", etc...3
-
When it's midnight and all you can think about is whether to deploy a personal project in a language/framework you know well or to take advantage and learn something new...4
-
Create a new, fast, strictly typed programming language with organized project structure, normal package manager, dynamic syntax extensions (that means you can change the syntax of the language if you like!) and (most importantly) if statements which are written like this:
(bananas == 0) -> print 'No bananas!';3 -
Dev trend I think will pass?
Creating new frameworks on this dumpster fire of a language we call JavaScript.10 -
Going to make a new programming language, positive# .
Where the default value of a Boolean is true instead of false. -
I have a built in NLU and NLP feature for English language within me.
And when I learn a new language, I am basically installing a new adapter.11 -

Hey DevRant I've a question, I want to get into Python but don't really know where and how to start any tips 😊14 -
Fairly new to Linux, read that vim is a neat editor but hard to learn, good for script editing and such, but why use it over a language specific editor or something like VS Code?24

Apparently "in" and "out" are the new "varying" and "attribute" in OpenGL's shader language...
Even buying a new graphics card can f*ck up your whole day! 😥2 -
How normal people learn a new coding language: books, vids
Me: CodinGame and Google
Works fine actually7 -
I am creating a new language. Not like C# but a language specifically for plus, minus, multiply, division stuff
Any tuts related to this?14 -
The more I write Go the more I get to like the language, but today I felt like I hit a huge wall. I found out that the structure I initially planned for my Discord bot wouldn't work for what I actually wanted to achieve, which made me feel like a completely useless developer. I develop SaaS solutions in the form of REST API's for a living, so making a bot is completely new to me, which is why I probably shouldn't feel so useless. Any advice for getting back on the horse again? I really want to see this hobby project finished. But starting over after almost 20 hours of work feels so demotivating 😕2
-
Why can't I pick a programming language and just stick with it? Anyone else constantly exploring new languages?12
-
Doesn't matter if you know a lot of programming languages. There is no greater satisfaction than when you write your first "hello world" in a new language.6
-
!rant
So, I've been wanting to learn C++ for a couple months now - decided to get a good book yesterday (Professional C++ 3rd Edition) on the language to help guide me through the more advanced concepts.
Fast forward today and I'm having a blast! Still uncomfortable with the syntax but I'll get used to that over time.
So fun 😊 -
So I just had a bit of a shower thought. Suppose you could get the linguists to break a language down and define all the rules that make up that language as if it were a protocol - exceptions included. If you get an arbitrary string of text, could you match against those rules, then break that down to the information it contains, and use that information against a new rule set to construct a new valid sentence containing the same information. Would you just have made the ultimate translator?16
-
There's something special about writing your first "Hello world!" in a new language, no matter how long you've been programming :)
So hello rust, let's see what the fuzz is all about...4 -
IMAO, a new programming language/technology is like a new cute girl at your school/workplace. We give it a lot of attention and tend to ignore older programming languages/technologies2
-
Man learning I’m not good at learning new languages, I get to the point where I have the basics of the language ex: Conditional statements, loops, functions, classes, structures, file manipulation, etc but idk what to do after that, is this where I start learning libraries cause I still get the feeling I’m not at that step yet.
Before you ask, yes I know I am heavily over thinking this2 -
Ladies and gents,
It feels amazing to learn a new language. I feel like a French guy learning Swahili with ease. Or a game mod creator turning on God mode.2 -
Anyone have the experience where you are learning a new programming language and you are eager to do stuff with it but you need to use another one for your job? So frustrating!2
-
Why people are saying Python is an easy language? I mean yes, if you write c/java code with python it may seem easy, but writing proper python code, in a pythonic way is not so easy.
SO DON'T TELL PEOPLE THAT'S IT EASY LANGUAGE because new commers later they come with absurd code and ask people to fix it.7 -
At the Android Developers under us:
Do you prefer the new Kotlin language or the good old Java? Because i'm currently learning Android Development with Java.
Would like to hear your opininion! :)5 -
That moment when u r finished with learning a new language but suddenly realize that u have forgotten how to use the previously learnt language .... Just wonder if it was possible to have just 1 coding language with all the pros and no cons ...4

Learning a new (old) language for work. Found a site that has a 100 day series on it... stops at day 6. Fml4

Soo there's this new language in town.
It says it looks like ruby but runs like c.
Any one tried crystal yet?
Is a compiled language but with all the funky features.3 -
Just reading Knuth's The Art of Computer Programming, where he created an own assembly language, so the book doesn't rely on a currently in fashion language... Meanwhile teaching students to code a GUI in java swing, because it was the new shit when the syllabus was created...1

When you are pissed for some reason and want to learn a new language you will probably end up writing a client for Fuck Off as a Service

That moment when you sit to code and start learning a new thing, but the installation and prerequisites take up all of your time. *Sighs*1

Searching for a new job in a different language than you have experience in. Seriously, no one seems to really understand that if you can code in one OO language then you can pretty much do them all!
I don't want to do PHP any more you fucks!4 -
So I got new internet two days ago but I never had time to run a speed test. Ran one this morning and found that I'm getting 113/15mbs when I'm paying for 60/5. Thanks spectrum for using the "median speed is" language instead of "up to" language.3
-
I would like to get a little bit into functional programming.
Do you have any language suggestions to learn?14 -
In the logic that both Java and JavaScript are widely used languages, if we create a new language with "Java" as a substring, it will be used eventually.
Our next programming language can be:
* Javarus
* Javath
* JavaLang13 -
Working on Ruby on Rails for first time..
Blogs mention it's more human readable..
I guess I feel like semicolons, args and braces to be more readable... -
Sometimes I try to figure out which language should I learn next! Or I really need to learn a new language?! Or just trying to be better in current ones??! ...4

So I want to write a simple program in language X. Create a new project. Language X does not have this feature. Okay, Let me write a library that does that for language X. Create a new project. What was I doing again?!

The feeling, when you learn about a new feature of the language, you've used for over 6 months.
The joy of learning something new, cool and useful mixed the pain, of knowing, you could have written your previous projects easier.2 -
There should be a new boolean called "Not sure". I wonder how much it can change the logic of every language.15

New programming research project from Microsoft called Bosque.
A programming language without loops.

Some people just don't get it. When you meet friends who are either non technical or very new to programming, all they ask you is what language do you use.
The language is important but not everything. It's what you do with it that matters. Just because you know python, doesn't mean that you can do machine learning. Even simply asking what do I do is better than that!
The language is just a tool! Learn to be language agnostic please. Be a programmer, not a code monkey2 -
Started working on a per project in Rust (first time using Rust) .. a scripting language.
Rust is great, so fast, compiles in 0.5-1.2seconds on my $200 laptop as well! Pretty rare for safety, speed, AND compile speed to exist in one beautiful language.
Also my scripting language is the opposite of beautiful. Oh God.3 -
Hey guys
Any russian here with patiante to teach me basic words?
Would really love to learn russian, but it's so hard since the written words are different...56 -
When I realized that programming is the greatest way to make one's living, that I will never love anything more than programming, and that every feature and quirk in a new language is like a new friend.

I want to learn a new programming language. What should I learn? I am torn between Kotling, Go and Scala.
Or should I just learn a new JS framework? ;)17 -
My senior colleague recently said "Don't go around asking for best practices, it's a waste of time! Just try stuff until it works and commit it".
We were talking about writing code in a new language.1 -
I have been working with python for a couple of years now and I want to play with a new language. Colleagues suggested C but what would people recommend as the next step?10
-
Please tell me why my boss thinks instead of just implimenting a language picker, it's a good idea to:
1) store the browser's language option in the DB only for new users, but only the first time they log in, never again.
2) never give existing users the ability to change language, and just default them to English.
3) deal with all upcoming language change tickets by having devs manually do DB updates ON THE LIVE PROD DB.
I'm screaming.2 -
What better way to learn a language than creating something with it. So I went ahead and made an API for devRant in crystal.
https://github.com/iostreamer-X/...
And I swear that language has potential. It flawlessly(almost) combines the best of both worlds(interpreted and compiled).
IGN: 7/10 Too new but fresh af1 -
Greatest language of all times is still C. It stood against the test of time. Any new language including Rust can hope to ba barely performant than C with too much overload.(I know most cpp abstractions if more efficient handwritten C equivalent but still).
Language is small, simple, elegant.17 -
That feeling when you're almost done with your personal project using an entirely new language and framework :)) been working on it for the last 2 weeks. 62 commits in!!2
-
I started making a library to get to know TypeScript. 4 days into the commits and I don't know if I made the best choice or the worst choice. I MEAN WHY CLASSES!! JAVASCRIPT IS MORE A FUCNTIONAL PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE THAN AN IMPERATIVE PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE! I DONT WANT TO NEW UP! I DONT WANT THE DEVELOPERS TO NEW UP! WHERE ARE THE DESIGN PATTERNS! I CANT FUCKING FIND IT!!4
-
Please share C++ advice for devs new to the language. What do you guys think is the fastest route to self learning C++ development for infrastructure systems and please suggest resources.11
-
The only way for me to learn a new language/framework is by building stuff with it, or heck writing shitty blog posts.
So here's one on Elixir

"The only way to learn a new programming language is by writing programs in it." - Dennis Ritchie
So, how are you learning - By writing programs or by Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V? 😛3 -
1) Search for "what is *language-I'm-interested-in* useful for?" on ddg;
2) Google the same thing 'cause you never know;
3) If it looks cool/useful and adds something to the tech I already know, I find a tutorial and follow it.
4) Trial and error on a new project that I will end up doing in another language because by that time I will find the new project so cool that I have to finish it in a language I use proficiently.
Every damn time. -
rant, but !really.
Trying out this new Kotlin language. Pretty cool, except for...
val str: String = "what the fuck is this syntax?"6 -
Want to learn a new programming language. My main language is JavaScript and I spent most of my team learning to create full stack applications with it, but I would like to learn a second language to focus on. (I already have some experience in Java and Python and JavaScript wasn't my first language but I like JS)
Are there any languages that you could suggest me?8 -
I gave up trying to use generic numbers in rust and just converted everything to f64
now I can do math
stupid system
*moves into a new language, converts language to JavaScript*2 -
Looking for platform specific language options for a new project at work and reading articles from well known sources.
If you start your article with something like, "when I think of a good programming language, I think of JavaScript", I'm going to punch out of your shitty opinion faster than an async function.
When you're trying to convey an unbiased message you generally don't start with, "I'm an absolute shill for {language}".
What the fuck happened to journalistic integrity?7 -
Time for a new programming language. LaTeX! It's definitely very different than what I'm used to, but very useful.13
-
How relevant is learning Java in right now? Want to start with a new language, and don't know which will be the most useful?21
-
So tomorrow I start at a new project - super pumped. Looking forward to learning a new language too - Scala. And..
....
I am finally taking the plunge...it's time to throw myself into Linux, as the org has gone all Linux no more Windows! -
Am I the only one who heavily comments their code when learning a new language to the point of you essentially describing what everything is and how everything works6
-
Got to love Google. This years IO 2018 has been one of my best. So many new tools for developers to become successful. Android & its new set of tools like Android Jetpack & the immense love Kotlin is receiving its gonna be an awesome year for Android programmers & Kotlin as a language.2
-
Finally started new job this week in programming language and frameworks I never worked with.
I’m already refactoring code 😂4 -
learning a different language can be difficult sometimes. since i already know other languages, i get them mixed up. putting semicolons, putting spaces even though i shouldnt, putting parenthesis or even forgetting some keywords because in another language, its not necessary. makes it difficult to adjust to the new syntax. but the fun part of learning is having more knowledge and experience.4
-
Starting to learn rust... It's hard! I've never worked with a language this low-level before, there are a lot of concepts to learn. It's a good hard, though.2
-
I want to learn a new backend-language, but can't decide which one.
I already know Go and have basic knowledge of Python and Java.
Which one should I learn?
Doesn't matter what kind of language.12 -
Every *brand new framework/language* online course starts with writing ToDo app. But in real life there is no really good ToDo app yet1
-
Things nobody told you when starting to learn a new programming language:
Congratulations! You became a collector. From now on you will collect websites, books and a ton of related software.4 -
Hello everybody,
I am 17 years old, I love to code and I cannot decide which new language I should learn.
What do you think of Rust and Crystal? What would you prefer? What is better?11 -
Do you guys also feel difficulty when you try to write algorithms in the new language? I feel like I am stupid cause I don’t event know the methods for coding the algorithms which can be easy with the language I already know4
-
I am looking for new programming language to learn and I found D language. It looks interesting but I think that community is weak and there is lack of some usefull libraries.
For example I can not find secure PRNG.
So my questions are:
> Have you any experience with this language?
> It is worth to learn?3 -
C# developers!
Anyone knows a good source to start reading about C# 7's syntax (not only "what's new")? Sometimes it feels like the language specific tools that I know are not enough.
P.S. Can't find it in msdn language reference or guide.
Please share.3 -
Tried learning a new language to add to my CV, guess I haven't got it in me.
Fluent in google translate will have to do for now.2 -

When did you guys start to learn a new language?
Right now I only know C++ and I'd like to learn a new language but I never have the time8 -
As a developer, when learning a new language how do you know when your good enough to start making projects to test knowledge or skill?6
-
Finish my only pet project;
Learn a new compiled language;
Get better at functional programming;
Read more books about networks and software engineering;3 -
Word of advice:
Whenever you plan you invest a considerable amount of time in learning a new language make sure that its well documented and has a good support.1 -
Hi webdev here, who would like to start developing 2d indie games. My main language is JavaScript. Is there any way I could start developing games without learning a whole new language?9
-
Kind of feeling when started Learning Rust
Rust Stable
Rust Beta
Rust Nightly
It really fRUSTrating but..
Awesomeness of new beats all odds2 -
Goals for 2018
- Add E2E test or unit tests to my projects
- learn a new (programming language) perhaps Go, or Rust
Better have a few than too many2 -
How so you guys motivate yourself when starting a side project/learning new language/technology? I am having some problems sitting down and working on my own stuff :(4

How do you get to learn something new? By doing tutorials on YT, Udemy? Going directly to the documentation of the tool/language..etc ? Reading books ? And to practice what you've learned what do you do? Do you build something that you've previously done in another language or look for ideas or how is it? Does anybody know about a "list" of "programs" that can be developed to practice a language knowledge? Thanks :P3 -
I've a bad habit..
If I need to do a complex new task with some new tool / programming language, I'm really motivated to waist my time.
But If I've to solve the same task with something I already know then I generally keep averting it.4 -
Hey rant. I want to learn new programming language. Now im working with php and js. Any suggestion for new language??4
-
Trying to learn something new.
Find a library in a foreign language. It's c++.
Unable to include lib.
Copy contents
Try absolute path
Compiler gives me the finger
Abandon project -
They say to learn a new language, talk to people who speak it. But I'm pretty sure there aren't any people that speak in Python or PHP in their day-to-day life3
-
Why as a junior developer we always search for the best programming language or best tech. What things I should care about to improve as a programmer instead of searching the new "cool thing".6
-
So after a couple of days of playing around, I just finished the larger part of a program that my new boss wants in C# (which is new to me). So far I'm really loving the wide variety of functions, but I'm struggling to get used to the fact that everything in the ASP.net part gets "processed" (like using BuildForn to create a form tag instead of just typing the HTML) and it just slows down the process a bit 😂2
-
I need a new language/framework/ANYTHING. I miss the doing-stupid-shit-but-being-excited-about-it-anyway-coz-NEW-LANGUAGE euphoria :'/
And no not python, that shit is shitty.13 -
Again new language!!
This time scripting language...php and start learning today and finds interesting.
Suggest some best resources?
BTW i m enjoying learning php.yeahhhh✌️5 -
Starting with rust, seems like an advanced language and I think python corrupted me, it makes learning new language a task. Is it python or rust is bit complex?4
-
HOLY FUCK! Why is JS world so fucking confusing? I haven't even started learning it and its already giving me a headache. I feel like there are a billion different things i have to learn that aren't just "vanilla js". All i want to do is learn some web dev, take on freelance work, become a digital nomad. Im a simple C++ and ios/android developer things are so straight forward. JS seems like a clusterfuck of just stuff 😧 Id like to say this isnt a my language is > than yours rant. This is a "like what the fuck" rant. My brain was like Html, Css, JS cool thats all i have to learn... boy was i wrong. Can someone give me a word of wisdom as i go down this apparent rabbit hole?6

Swift being too new a language to have proper unit tests so you have to bodge something together to keep the client happy.1
-
Neural scan coding, so I just think what I want and it writes out the code in a new neural language and works!

Learning a new programming language is a lot like putting on a new pair of underpants. At first it's restrictive but then it becomes a part of you!4

Hi guys, I'm planning to start tutorials in C# in my local language (since C# is the language I'm knowledgeable about). Can I target new programmers or should I just target the more experienced ones?9

I need a new rubberduck for debugging problems. Does color or size depend on language and dificulty? Or do i have to look for the stats of the duck itsself?1

Last week I've been really wanting to start learning a new language. Not the programming type but the original type. Mainly for career opportunities, as I am getting into 2nd year of a 5 year cs curriculum.
Already know : English, Greek (native)
Currently deciding between:
French
Indian
Chinese (not Korean, maybe Japanese?)
Opinions? :)8 -
How can we go to a new world?
No need death.
Just read a fantasy book
Or learn new programming language.
For example, if you're a php Dev, learn c#, Java or c++.
Believe me, it's a new world.2 -
Imagine you have 100+ projects in java, that became obsolete due to Oracle decision to "improve the language" .
To me, the required effort is not easy to the point that better to invest in migrating the projects to other languages such as Rust.
So I expect to hear for example : "Lets see why we should continue using java"
Instead, you hear : " Oh the new version of java has nice features, lets continue using it".
Then I understood why :
If you start a new language, you are a beginner so if you were a master in Java, then you will not accept to be a beginner in Rust, just like anyone who discovers the language.1 -
Start with simple projects then keep improving it until you reach the depth level that you want.
I used to learn a new language/technology every month, I did that all this year until now, I learned 3 new languages, 2 new databases, 1 new paradigm, so many frameworks and methodologies and design patterns applying in real world projects ! -
Through pain, sweat, tears, sickness, blood, and endless confusion between Linux system and windows system configuration, and finally learning the fundamentals of a new language, I have officially broke ground on a new project. Here's to hoping it doesn't end in GitHub hell with the rest

Programmer looking for a new language
I have been a JavaScript developer for a few years now (non professionally) and I really like the language. I mainly program for execution with NodeJS rather than web, because I feel like I get more freedom (e.i. the ability to use a computer file system).
I normally never use other people's libraries and instead either write my own library/ies for the specific task or use an old one. I only ever use someone else’s if I need a quick frame work to test an idea, never for something I will actually use.
I prefer to work object / class orientated.
I have worked on distributed servers with NodeJS before, however trying to distribute a load across one computer across it's multiple threads has proved problematic due to the heavy delays of standard io transfer speeds.
Why do I want to switch?:
•Because JavaScript is not at all created with multithreading in mind, and pretty much any multithreading solution is a bodge and allot of the time it is more efficient to work single threaded.
•Also, I get the sense that JavaScript + NodeJS is not used often in the programming industry comparison to other languages like; ruby, python, and I don't want to get stuck in a nesh language of which would decrease my employment chances heavy.
Side Note: I have been working on a pet project to have a distributed database (made with nodejs), and so far, there are no language specific problems, but I feel like it would be more efficient if I used a programming language designed more to cater for multi threading.5 -
I'm learning a new lang. Read all of the introductory guide. Have an algp to implement.
Suddenly I realize I suck at designing the implementation. Then I grab pen and paper and obssessively try to solve it all theoretically.
Or maybe I suck at this new lang? Who knows.2 -
C#
Lately there have been a lot of new features for the language itself, and I fear that a lot of them make the language more and more convoluted.
Also AoT Compilation should be pushed more, but that might just be my opinion.14 -

I'm a web developer.

But I'm not that kind of dev who knows how a compiler work, and I usually get lost when I read a comment written by that guy 100110111.
Weeks ago, I started looking for a new language to learn, I tried Rust, Nim, V, I spent 30 minutes on the haskell homepage doin' the "learn haskell in 5 minutes"
I really wanna learn a new language, because I love learning new things.
Even if many of you here did not agree that Vlang could become a great language, I liked it and I'm following it waiting for the v1.0 maybe it's gonna achieve all its promises.
There is some other languages that I wanna learn too, like Nim and Zig.
What makes me like a language ?
1- the simplicity of syntax
2- performance (benchmarks)
3- the possibility to build anything with it
Now I'm wondering if it's a good thing to swap between languages like this, without knowing exactly what I'm gonna do with it, and what should I do to stop hesitating and stick with one language
...
what I really want, is to learn a language so good that can be used on servers (web backend) and on desktop (cros platform)7 -
