I got a used computer case in a second hand hardware store and it still has the sticker with the specs of the computer they wanted to sell it with on it. It was going to be a moderate to shity pc. I built an absolute computing monster in it (i7 6900k, 32GB ram, 23TB storage). I like having visitors over and telling them this is the primary computer I use to do my high particle count fluid simulations and little bigdata projects with.6

There was this 'Hadoop' trend going on. So I thought that i'll start Hadoop. After one month people have started to trend Spark claiming that it is faster. -.-
And now I am outdated.13 -
**noob alert**
Hi all, I'm new to this community. I found it out couple of days back while downloading some apps on play store. And I don't know how much time have I spent here since then... Damm, I've an interview after 2 days.
My query is, I am stuck/confused. I have so many ToDos. ToDos to learn new things, from UI to other langs to machine learning to database to etc etc. And I keep on postponing it because I can't decide which way to go first. There is so much fuzz about BigData/AI which sounds cool. Sometimes I want to build UI for my imaginary idea, then somebody says a man must learn linux and DB. Top of that I'm preparing for interviews, so I think I should get a job first and then start learning. But when I get a job, I get *busy* with job. It feels like Captain America, all he does is official work. I sometimes feel like trying open source coding, but quit the idea because I get scared or overwhelmed by imagining the big community behind it and I won't be able to make a difference or I might get bashed by others as I get bashed in StackOverFlow :-(
I'm unable to get help from friends/family/colleagues, not because they are bad. It's just they don't get it. People think just because you have a job which pays the bills and save money, everything is fine because there are lots of people who dream to get a job, so be thankful for what you have. I'm thankful... But it's not helping. I really want to do things more than what my job asks me to. The kid inside me is awake since I became adult.
Have you been in this condition or is it just me? Or is it too confusing? Could you please help me out. Thanks a lot. Sorry for serious post. I'm a java programmer by the way.9 -
When your manager can't code and is blown away when it takes 2 secs to change a table header in your html, but then extremely frustrated when you can't instantly implement dynamic filters. Like no, dude... No. That's not how web development works.2
-
When your code is brilliantly modular and class based, but no one gets your joke about it being super classy...

I fixed my big data processing code, I think. If all works as planned, I'll wake up to some processed data that I can do some statistical analysis on... I hope...8

Working with acutal BigData. Will be ''promoted'' to a new team where I will work on a system wrote in php+mysql with literal millions of requests and database rows. We are currently seeing server crashes around once a week on peak usage. Stack is a vps 64gb ram server + i dont know how many cpu/ cores. Apache, php, mysql.Best ways to optimise and adapt in this case? Kafka? Rabbitmq?ngnix? More hardware?21

Hey guys, does someone knows if Twitter colludes with other websites and/or services to collect data, because I thought that privacy-wise, Twitter wasn’t as bad as Facebook as I just use Twitter to follow youtubers and Donald Trump(to keep up with his craziness) and never post anything. But I just got a Python Machine Learning ad just. And it’s spooky because I’m currently (trying to be) learning Deep Learning and Google knows it (🤬🤬 you udemy ads) but Twitter!!?? Do they have a way to link my account??6

"Bro, what's inside your bag?"
"Just a MacBook Air, why?"
"Looks so heavy?"
"There is Hadoop inside my Mac Air."
"Oh..." -
SWE in fintech in MNC, job involves "bigdata' . Get paid >> avg
I FUCKING HATE IT. THIS PLACE IS A REAL DREAM-KILLER.
Size of the big-data ??? <50 GB ! Entire place runs on gimmicks and show off.
PO is a dumb cock sucker with minimal tech idea. He is busy sucking up business users and dictating us to rearrange tiles on reports all day long.
Fed up with all this shit , I decided to give GRE and apply for masters in Computer Vision .
For good GRE verbal score , I need to learn 1100 words , 90% of which I have never heard in my entire life.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ????????
Will my dream of working as a vision scientist for autonomous cars never come to life ???????

Plz motivate me to get out of this shit-hole -
Manager changes major feature in spec 3 days from deployment. Says "this kind of thing happens, not my fault"
That doesn't fucking help.1 -
Manager does nothing but give me more work. Can't code. doesn't even get git issues. Last in first out yet I'm first in last out. At end of meeting he says, "great job but one comment, you should say 'We' not 'I', cuz this is a team effort"
Are you fucking kidding me dude? Add it as another issue.... Oh wait -
It’s fascinating how IT and database admins want us to drop tables that we don’t use anymore... with read-only access!1

Fuck Facebook!
Disabling apps without warnings or anything which means no customer login. This is a huge pain since the solution doesn't have any way to login to the same account with another credential.
"Oh did you use that? Now you can't. And the only way to do anything is to submit a form to 'appeal' the case which we'll just reject without any notifications or emails"
Normally I won't rant like this or use that much swearing.. but in this case:
Fuck you, Facebook. Fuck. You.7 -
Sometimes it seems kind of paradoxal to think that us, developers, feel crazy and excited about doing things with bigdata, artificial inteligence and so on, but at the same time we hate to be tracked and studied by large corps - using, many times, equivalent tools

I was part of a team that monitored 1700 radio stations world wide and reported the AirPlay to a BigData system. There were only a few engineers on the project and it was 15 years ago before big data design or technologies were widely available. Our biggest challenge - heat from running the servers so hard.

I need advice. I'm to create a web application with an interactive map (lots of polygons to put on it, with markers and other map things) with a large amount of data and it is expected to have frequent changes to the said data. I have no idea of the tech stack to be used and the performance of the app is the biggest concern. (I'm thinking maybe to create an API, use MongoDB, then create a web client for it but I'm not that sure). Please give me your insights.7

I was a frontend developer, and I am new to hadoop or anything related to big data.
I am currently working as a Hadoop developer and I get to work on one of existing codebase also I am trying to recollect Java which I learnt during college.
Can u please provide me any inputs on how to get started with Hadoop, a personal view point on scope and future of Hadoop. A rough time span of how long it took for you to get out of the noob zone.
If you could provide me with a good tutorial or blog that would be awesome.
Thanks in advance1 -
So I've been studying masters in business analytics and big data. So far it's been 2 months and I don't have a clear picture about what big data actually is.
I guess that's normal and no cause of concern right guys ? -
Is a picture worth a thousand words?

It seems dat the only growing career profile in bigdata domain is of BIGDATA trainer.
P.S. I don't need ny training. So stop mailing me. -
tfw you're learning a new library and a function gives an error suggesting xyz in data. You assume you're using the function wrong. 5 hours later...turns out there is xyz in data ya big dummy!

trying to clean off my mac (yes i managed to fill nearly 1 terabyte)
and holy shit whoever is closest to guessing the size (in Gb, yes it's that bad) of the old 🤡 startup i worked for wins...
god yet another detriment to the years of my life wasted
i'm also still on node 18 lol, totally missed the maintenance date on that one
my life is in shambles
serious question - would you be willing to pay $1 a year or something stupidly cheap for emails when a software goes into maintenance? i sure as hell would pay for that5
