Data science is hard.

Statistics is not easy.
Programming is not easy.

To be a data scientist is to be good in statistics and good in programming.

Most people are good in either one of those fields but not in both.

Therefore Data Scientists deserve to be highly paid

@jurion if you're interested I can recommend some serious junior data scientists from the 1 year class we just finished (in the Israel Institute of Technology - Technion)

How much should a statistician make?
Do you think they should make less than data scientists? Less than developers?

This image comes out of both jealousy and ignorance.

In my experience, data scientists are people who have no clue about statistics, can barely write an SQL query and mold their results into reports in such a way that it pleases management but doesn't resemble truth in any way.

I'm sure there are competent data scientists out there, but so far I've fired 6 this year...

@bittersweet I've seen the same with "programmers".

I guess its the 'fake it till you make it' mentality that plagued the culture.

Like i said, it's hard to be a data scientist (a real one)

I work with a lot of amazing statisticians and data scientists, all experts in certain areas. Little known and hard to gain knowledge should always be well paid. They all learn from each other making us a well rounded company.

I'm a data engineer myself so off to the side from all that.
