It happened.
I wrote "you're missing a tab in your python code" as an answer on StackOverflow.
I was downvoted AND told that I wasn't correct: it was missing 4 spaces and not a tab, according to the python guidelines.
Now, I haven't read them, but my Richard Hendrix fucking intensifies.
Fuck spaces. And if python guidelines talk about spaces, fuck python guidelines too!31 -
my_girlfriend: who do you like more in your life?
me: linux
my_girlfriend: What????

my_girlfriend: ok, who do you LOVE?
me: python
i dont know why she left me, i think she was php fan18 -
note: Not the worst dev I've interviewed but worst I've worked with.
A guy who worked in my company before me "HARDCODED" the entire calendar for next 10 years starting 2016 in dictionaries and arrays in Python for a project.12 -
FOR FUCKS SAKE PEOPLE ! JS AND PYTHON ARE NOT THE BEST LANGUAGES NOR THE ONLY THING YOU SHOULD LEARN. THERE'S NO TOOL OUT THERE THAN CAN FIX EVERYTHING.
WTF HAPPENED TO THIS INDUSTRY IT'S AS IF JS AND PYTHON ARE ALL THEY TEACH THESE DAYS ...
ENOUGH ! BE A POLYGLOT OR GTFO (OR YOU CAN SPEAK ONLY 1 LANGUAGE AND STOP FORCING IT WHERE IT DOESN'T BELONG)
now that that's out of my system. bring it on59 -
Wife asked if she could see my Python so I pulled it right out.
She yells, "That's not what I meant and you know it! Show me your code!"
Now apparently I'm in trouble 😂7 -
I'm creating a website and I'm thinking: Wow, I use html, css, javacript and python, I'm awesome! Then I see what other people know: shit, I'm not awesome...
Programmer: the more you know, the more modest you become...8 -
Me: So we've used Bootstrap for front-end and Django for ...
Teacher: Bootstrap is not a front-end framework.
Me: Uh..Okay. It's a CSS framework ? My bad.
Teacher: No, Python is for front-end.
Me: You mean templating ? Yeah! We've used Jinja templates.
Teacher: No. Use Python for front-end.10 -
I expected Python to be fun, but not THIS fun!
I'm gonna stick around you, buddy. We're going to accomplish great things together.12 -
Python -> indentation
HTML -> <!doctype HTML>
C++. -> int main()
PHP. -> <?php ?>
These are the fundamentals for some popular languages. Than there is this;
Lisp. -> ()
Like it doesn't give a fuck.
Not a single one.
I like that.11 -
I'm a Python dev, yet 99% of my work over last 3 weeks has been JS. How do js devs not sit in the corner of a room crying at the end of a day?28
-
So I was browsing devrant and a friend asked what all languages do I know? I said, python, c, c++
He looked at me like 😐
Took me a moment to realise he was asking languages not programming languages 😅13 -
I have not used c++ in almost 2 years. I'm regaining familiarity with it.
I come from 2 years of Java and python.
I'm ranting a lot about some things, but damn, pointers and stuff are so sexy.14 -
I've just made an attempt to fix the Python repository in response to that ridiculous master/slave PR. Please support the issue! You can find it at https://github.com/python/cpython/.... Thanks!
…
Issue got immediately locked. I'll try my best to maintain a community fork at https://github.com/toloveru/cpython. Fucking pieces of shit they are.. seriously, if at all possible, do not use my repository. Just stop using Python altogether. This is madness.15 -
It was for a job interview, I wouldn't specify what the challenge is but they said I could use any language I want; I chose Python. They said I failed the coding interview because it was not Java.8

"Oh, I reverted your changes because I did not understand them"
I SPENT THE WHOLE DAY REFACTORING YOUR SHITTY SPAGUETTI SHIT U LAZY PIECE OF SHIT !
But I guess being a senior guy entitles u to sit your fat fuck ass in your chair writting garbage all day long.
Btw what he did not understand was f strings. In python. Srsly. How is that arrogant incompetent prick paid at least 10k more than me3 -
Stop teaching java on a fucking notepad.
Also, since I am from India, start teaching and putting more emphasis on python. Also not to mention git without which you cant live.
If not in schools, these should be made compulsory for CS grads in universities.5 -
No, my family did not support me.
They complained about everything.
From how "Python was demonic" to how "Working with computer wont save you from the coming tribulation"
Growing up in a religious cult sucks.10 -
"I think I need to reinstall my python on ubuntu"
* proceeds to remove python
* ubuntu breaks
* tries to fix ubuntu
* ubuntu no longer goes to desktop
* cries
* tries not to cry
* cries a lot
Yeah moral of the story is never uninstall python (at least for ubuntu, idk other linux distros)16 -
Now, instead of shouting, I can just type "fuck"

Well fuck you too goddammit5 -
Good to see instagram move to python3 without an exception. Literally that was smooth. Cheers to those who think Python is not scalable. 95 million photos on daily basis. 400 daily users.

!rant
Hey everyone!
I've recently made a devrant API for python!
It is available for use in your very own projects!
I am planning on using this on another project, a python devrant CLI program, inspired from a collab using JavaScript.
Here is the link: https://github.com/coolq1000/...
It is very basic with functionality, not much beyond getting rants by index starting at zero, or getting all rants available by skip, limit.
Has some documentation in the readme.
Have fun!6 -
Yesterday I installed the linux subsystem. Wrote some python code, but it never run no matter what. It was always the same sintax error. I got pretty desperate after finding no solution on google and decided to reinstall the linux subsystem, erasing everything I made.
Turns out the problem was that python pointed to python 2.7 instead of 3. I'm not a smart man.7 -
Being different is not a crime, and people who tell you it is are jealous that you've picked up a skill they never in their wildest dreams could acquire.
You can code. They cannot. That is pretty damn cool.
-learn python the hard way3 -
Oh F***, not again!
Bob, every single time you "patch" the servers I run into issues, that you cannot fix.
Bob: "heuuu... I don't know anything about python or npm or any of that"
Then stop touching it!!!1 -
Git. Not Linux, not python, not gimp, not GCC, not Emacs. Git.

If I have a bug in my Java program, please don't tell me "Use Python. It has a library for that, you can do it in 2 lines".
Motherfucker, I'm not asking for a solution in Python, nor am I asking you to pick my language for me. The rest of the project is in JVM languages, and I'm not gonna rewrite the whole damn thing so i can use your precious little script-kiddie language
If I show you Java code, I don't want Python. I never want Python. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS FLUFFY, STOP TRYING TO FORCE-FEED ME PYTHON14 -

Anyone else gets peeved when you're insulted in a language your insulter thinks you don't speak?
I was at the indoor climbing gym, struggling halfway up a difficult route when a fat idiot attached to a 'Intro to Climbing' class howled to her friends "Look at that blind idiot, can't he see that big red piece beside his foot?" (I was climbing a green route) in Cantonese (a Chinese dialect).
😒9 -
This has been posted a few times but I just want to reiterate for noobs that !Rant means NOT rant, like the C, C++, Python, Java, etc versions. Not like CSS !Important or ruby do_this!(indeed) etc.5

Created a whole program from scratch in Powershell, while learning it on the fly. Developed GUI and got some friends to beta test it. Fixed bugs and finally the manager saw. After using it for not even a whole minute, he says "Looks fine, just make it in Python and we'll see".

I was working on windows before, had to do an assignment for a course.
And was stuck on....visual studio python compiler not working.
So I decided to do this.13 -
Im oficial! After one year of studying python / django I received an acceptance letter today. When I began, I didnt expected it would be so soon.
It's not my first job, but my first one as developer (will be doing stuff with python / django / pandas)
So Im happy...! Which is rare for me8 -
I hate when idiots make assumptions without basis. My company so higher up idiots decided not to use Python. I said why they said it’s not scalable. I asked have anyone of you ever wrote micro service which can handle millions request every hours? Have you ever wrote service in Python? Have you ever worked on Python? Architect said but Python doesn’t have type support? I said there is use Python3. He said I want to validate my request payload. I told have you tried form and decorators. I told, I have 8 years experience. I worked in every language and I one has advantage over others depending on situation. Then they said, but we want only Java as finding resources is easy. I said have you checked git Python overtook Java in case resources, you are outdated. I don’t want to leave company but even after so many argument these idiots just dropping Python and because of that I am loosing so many good resources.8

This week I had a technical interview for a Python developer position.
They asked me Javascript questions.
Not a single Python question.

ARGGHHHH Python!!! why the hell is this a thing... if I specify a default argument, I want it to be a default argument, not get carried over....13

Had a bad dream about python, woke up screaming "THERES A PYTHON ON THE FLOOR"
My girlfriend was so confused because she's not a programmer2 -
I’ve been programming with other languages than Python for so long that when I finally had to pick up Python to help teach my friend some python I felt like I was rediscovering a past life.
With Python I feel like King Fucking Arthur with the Holy Blade Excalibur, armored up and ready for fucking war.
When I’m writing a script I feel like I’m parrying and piercing my blade straight through that fuckers chest and slam them into the fucking ground. And leave their bleeding out cold dying body on the fucking ground with no hope in their eyes.
Although when an indentation error occurs I feel like I just fucking tripped over a fucking pebble and apparently stairs were nearby and I bash my head on all 1024 steps, get to the bottom to just to get some fucking Java Chad punt my fucking head like a fucking football screaming random reasons to not use python.7 -
Python. Ok, so it's a really cool language, as a scripting language it's awesome, quick to write.
When it's been used to make full fledged oop programs that you suddenly have to maintain things like duck typing become problematic. Looking at an object fuck knows what methods are available. Worse still when some bastard that thinks he's being clever doesn't bother declaring any object attributes and instead overrides the __set_attr method to dynamically add them as they are used there is no hope for the poor sod that has to maintain it later.
I've also now worked out I'm at least the 3rd person having been given the task of maintaining it, i spent a day changing CLI options wondering why they didn't do anything but occasionally crash the app. I've now found a few thousand lines deep that someone had hard-coded these values because they couldn't work out where to get the CLI args from!
I've gained a new appreciation for nominative, strictly typed languages.11 -
Some random coworker has been asked to setup tests for the framework written in Java and the GUI is a web app that comes with the framework.
Since he doesn't know any language we work in, he decided he would do it in Python. When I asked him why introduce Python and he replied with "it doesnt matter which language it is because it is going to run on selenium"
I told him to either use Java or Javascript for selenium because when he leaves we should be able to maintain the tests and not first figure out what the hell you wrote in Python
He didnt understand and is going to go with Python anyway8 -
Who the fuck at Microsoft decided to put python on their store? I don’t care if it’s on the store. What I do give many shits about is that I spent 20 minutes uninstalling and reinstalling and reconfiguring my fucking PATH because the python & python3 commands did not work but instead SENT ME TO THE FUCKING STORE PAGE FOR PYTHON 3.7
THEN I FIND OUT ITS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE PATH MICROSOFT PURPOSELY CREATED ALIASES FOR BOTH COMMANDS SO THEY HAVE TO SEND YOU TO THE STORE PAGE WHEN YOU TYPE python OR python3 INTO THE CMD OR POWERSHELL.
I turned it off after finding that out, but I’m still furious. Fuck Windows.22 -
New webdev job ad in a small town where I live:
"We need a junior to mid level full-stack dev - Python, Flask, Django, ES6, Angular, TypeScript, Git, etc..."
ME:
"Fuck, I tick all the checkboxes! - And it's like the only Python job around here! Yey! I so want to work with Python" excited sends cv and an extremely well crafted cover letter.
Company calls after few days:
"Hi! So we'd like to invite you for interview. Some of the tech we work in: Shopify, Wix, and SquareSpace. We're also trying to get into some other frameworks and started looking at Magento and Wordpress.... It's not really much coding, mostly content management...."
What the actual fuck!?!
I still agreed to interview...3 -

PHP ist one of the languages I use regularly, but not the main language.
Anyhow, passing an array to a function will create a Copy of the array unless you specifically choose to Pass the reference.
That's seriously fucked up. What other language does that?! Coming from C, Java, Python to PHP I was not prepared to expect shit like that.21 -
Languages like python and R are some-what high level languages, with an easy syntax and very readable code. This useful essentially to make it easier for non-programmers to use it. For me as a software developer with +4 years of professional programming. I started with Assembly, Quick-Basic to C++, Java then C#, I found Python super convenient, and at times way too convenient.
At first it felt like I was cheating, and would not consider myself actually writing code, more like pseudo-coding.
After a year or so, I got used to it and it became my default, but it still does not feel right .. is anyone else feeling the same?
I do believe that coding the hard way is not always the right way, but I am just wired that way.17 -
The sad day has come people... Anyone who knows me; knows that python and PHP are not my favourite of things...
But I've decided to try and work towards getting a Dev position at my current work place... That required PHP and python knowledge
Gonna be honest, better pay but have to use PHP and python or kill myself is a very tough choice...18 -
Why do job descriptions for ONE developer position, list down ALL the known programming languages, all the web technologies and frameworks available? From java kotlin swift php js jquery node to ionic angular laravel python and what not. Wtf? And this is not one, this is about 70 percent of the job descriptions I see these days!!5

Not quite a rant, but if you came here for a cool way to reverse strings in python then I've got you covered:
backwardsString = string[::-1]
Don't know why you come to devRANT for tips on python string reversal but hey
I thought it was cool at the time ::)))3 -
I dunno why, but my brain is just not weird to like syntactic whitespace.
Things like yaml, python and coffeescript...as much as I like Python...i just can't stand being forced to deal with whitespace.7 -
2018 dev goal #1: ✔️
This week I learned Python 3, as in most of the syntax. Not yet any development, but that will come tomorrow onwards.
Oh, and I hate the funky type system, which is almost non existent and so flexible that I don't know if it's just bad or I simply don't see why I should want it this way.
Please enlighten me why you think Python is great or just plain snake crap.
Did I mention snake case being common practice? And that Python doesn't know real private properties, methods, etc.? How does that work?17 -
It all started with a simple shell script that ran a bunch of build commands.
Then it became a python script that ran a bunch of build commands because why not?
Now it's becoming an electron app with a jazzy UI.. that runs a bunch of build commands. Because why not! -
Was interviewing someone for a role, asked them a basic question in Python (before anyone gets on my case about interview coding questions, it's removing duplicates and the answer is to just cast to set, I'm just checking that they actually know Python). Perusing Stack Overflow while I wait for their answer (it's a remote call and I give them a bit of time to calmly deliberate). The exact prompt I gave them pops up as a question, the asker is registered to their profile.
Not only did they not get the job, but I downvoted the question and marked it as duplicate. Rejection and unemployment can be temporary, but StackOverflow reputation is FOREVER. -
Yes, my Python scripts are not remotely pretty. But then, neither was my nonexistent formal training in scientific computing. And no, I will not 'write two lines of comments for every line of code'. Physics major programmer problems.1
-
Biggest annoyance of favorite language:
Python has no static type checking. I know that is not something that is intended for Python. It's just that I enjoy the syntax, but would love the type-safety of something like Kotlin/Java12 -
> Found a VBScript to show a messagebox (2008)

And I am still not able to properly inject a DLL to hack an FPS (I think)3 -
Python does not have ++
Feels so different as I used c c++ and Java!
Just can't write while loops with x++
😭4 -
it's decided, i'm creating a programming language specifically to trigger SJW (like the idea of C+=) which starting to corrupt this industries.
perhaps it's not gonna be huge, so i will blend this with my original idea; a simple language to fix python syntax that a lot of people didn't like who come from C like syntax which transpiled to python code.
maybe it's silly, but this need to be done. at least for my self.11 -
Doing a python code review after working in Scala is all:
"Why the loop? Can you just put a function here and... oh yeah, right... python does not allow it. I could have written these 20 lines in 4 if was Scala"
Scala, stop spoiling me!!4 -
So python does not have constants and the only way to create one is to create a class with a getter but no setter.
WHAT.THE.FUCK or am I just wrong?4 -
For fucks sake python.
Reminder to the morons like me still using python:
Notepad++ is not a real IDE and Console output is not a real debugger.
And here we see the absolutely dogshit worthless error output of python:
Says its the fucking return line where the problem is. Besides the problem being between my fucking ears apparently, it took a fucking double take to realize I had capitalized the class keyword.16 -
My boss wants to be asynchronous with php. Then to render the backend async he wants to use beanstalk using python to be scalable.
I said : we can use node.js it's already asynchronous. And we don't care about the langage php python...
Boss : node.js isn't scalable, there is no security it's not good enough, it's not enough safe. I code with php since 15 years and it's better than node. To much problem in the node.js version 0.12.
OK BUT NOW WE HAVE NODEJS VERSION 6 LTS. WAKE UP. OMG I GIVE IT UP LET'S GO.5 -
For fuck sake I get that people like python but not everyone is going to use it!
Just want a few articles or tutorials on interpreters and would you fucking look at that, it's all just in fucking python using external libraries...
Then I purchased a couple Linux and Raspberry pi magazines just to have a gander at some of the code examples and what do you think every single piece of code is? C? C++? Vala? Nope, fucking python!
I will eventually finish learning what I can about python but there are other languages that exist that isnt fucking python, give us some C, C# or even bloody JavaScript... Please
Ok rant about python over, back to my hole12 -
Master/Slave terms we're just removed from python. Why? Who needed / requested this? Do people not understand these terms to such a degree that they actually offend people?7
-
Bit the bullet and installed VS and relevant compilers for C++ and started fucking around with sdl.
Not as terrible as I thought it was going to be.
Pointers seem pretty intuitive. Apparently my time with python has not in fact mentally mutilated me.7 -
I write python that's faster than most people's c++. My c++ smokes everyone. Current project runtime has gone from 90 minutes to 90 seconds. Fuck yeah. I'm really not paid enough...15
-
I have a confession. I have always used IDLE because I love it. It's slow, lacks a number of features, and is just all-around outdated.
So today I went and I got rid of it. I tried PyCharm in the past but it was too complicated for Python. I like JetBrain's IDE for Java, but not for Python. Instead, this time, I opted for Spyder. I tend to get quite excited about new IDEs, and I do like this one a fair bit. The editor offers a dark theme but the UI surrounding it does not. This is offensive, but acceptable, for the time being. Here's a screenshot. Any thoughts?15 -

TIL Python doesn't really give a fuck about semicolons -.-
So after spending the past couple years almost exclusively using C# and Unity I decided to come back* to Python for no real reason except wanting a change of pace.
I almost ripped my hair out backspacing semicolons I kept putting in out of force of habit after having worked in C# for so long
Well guess what... I just learned (purely by accident)... Python couldn't care less. I feel internal conflict if that makes sense.
TBH now I'm randomly putting in semi-colons at the end of some statements just because I can and I want to abuse this freedom ^_^
Yeah yeah it's not very "pythonic" or pretty but screw that
* I started programming in Python back in high-school but switched over to C# + Unity after graduating and pursuing indie-gamedev.
Note: After some searching I realize you can use semicolons to have multiple statements on the same line but I never really needed to do that during my time with Python so I didn't even remember it was even a thing6 -
An interesting python function I just made. Probably not the first to do so.
def printf(fmt, *args):
print(fmt, args, end="")9 -
When your egghead boss (who is a dev, BTW) fails miserably in understanding that JavaScript fetch does not behave like the default synchronous nature of requests in Python.
After failing to make him learn about the asynchronous nature of JavaScript promises, he ends the discussion by saying "that's why python is better than js"
*facepalm*2 -
From A month of Python to start a month of JavaScript, my automated code review yells at me for missing "var" and ";"...
Global scope should not be the default and semicolons should be disallowed.2 -
When I start a new project in Python after not doing Python for a while:
print("Hello, World.");
When I start in C:
printf("Hello, World.")
After errors: *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* "RRRRGH semicolon."
Heh at least this time I remembered that Python uses print(), not printf()...1 -
Importing modules in python is the biggest shit i have done in my life. ALWAYS SOMETHING IS NOT FOUND. I have no fuckin clue who came up with this shit. I fuckin hate python for that so so much
EASY LANGUAGE GO TO HELL14 -
Why some libraries written in C++ does not offer an api in C++ but they offered it in Python and others "fast developing" languages? I start hating python..7

My intern was trained on 1 semester of Java, followed by 2 of Python, so there’s been several conversations at the office that boil down to:
“What’s *not* to love about Python? It’s easy to pick up, and forgiving as hell!”
“What’s *to* love about Python? I like being able to understand how my code is structured!”
As a WordPress shop, the discussion is moot, of course...4 -
I quite dislike the fact that Python is growing in popularity. It's a fun toy, but the syntax is so fucking annoying after a while. Forced indentation is certainly not my style. Furthermore, Python is generally not extremely performant, even as far as interpreted languages go.
I love python as a language but using it to work (Like... for money...?) seems very outlandish. It feels akin to scratch to me... very bizzare to think it is powering many complex AIs. Python is a toy.11 -
Almost like interview.....

Q. Which language you use.
Me. Python
Q. Why.
Me. Explained
Q. Why you not use Java?..

I went to common kitchen in my hostel, people their taught me basics of cooking.
I went to learn code people mocked me for using Java(replace with any technology) not python(replace with any technology with swag) -
I'm dong it again:
Just learning Python to teach it to someone else.
P.s. I always knew that my hatred of Python was not out of my mere ignorance.17 -
i really wish Python would not have the presence it has on Machine Learning. I can think of a handful of languages that would be better suited for it and even though I don't hate Python it has a lot of things that just make me say uuuuuuugh when writing it. It al comes down from this: treating syntactic whitespace in a special way is fucking retarded.11

The programming teacher was interested in Python, so I showed him what a script we made in Java would look like in Python, and he was so impressed he is thinking about completely changing the learning plan stuff to teach Python instead of Java. Now I'm not sure if I should've done that, because I was interested in the Java stuff and things and the other classmates would probably be completely confused if we take such a turn. :S8

Whyyy are dictionaries unordered in python. Fuuuck.
(Yes I know of OrderedDict, no you don't have to remind me - it is not a native data type, it is a module: argument over)8 -
Been writing some Python apps for the last weeks and I really enjoy the language. I got all the basic stuff down but not sure how to progress to learn the more advanced stuff. What even is advanced stuff in Python and where can I find information about it?
I'm thinking about creating an API, any advanced techniques I could benefit or use for that?9 -

That level of satisfaction when you successfully port a Python2 Project to Python3 and implement proper backward-compatibility - without 2to3! -
Do not use a "debugger".
A debugger is like doing a full-body scan of a sick person. You do not get any specific useful information, and you find a whole lot of information that doesn't help and is just confusing.

Turns out I was passing variables to the wrong container fml2 -
I do not understand people who critique Python for using indentation to mark code blcoks. I've seen multiple posts being like "Uhh in Python a missing space breaks everything and it's so hard to find it". Yeah so hard when the interpreter throws a parse error and tells you exactly which line it's on. Let me go back to a bracefest language, misplace a brace halfway through the file, and get told there's a syntax error at the end, and spend a whole two minutes finding it.11

why is everyone hating on python lately?
I know it's not perfect, and it takes care of a lot of shit for you. and it's slow, and doesn't have a decent compiler, and PEP 8 encroaches on everything good in the world, and mandatory whitespace, etc.
yea. it's got some issues. but it's still a good language imo. and it's easy to write, it's fun to write, it looks nice (not Ruby level nice but ehh). not worthy of all the "fuck python!" talk.21 -
These guys who only know Python and fuck you up, because you are used to write "true" instead of "True", or "else if" instead of "elif". Finally they laugh about you, because you are not able to "remember this simple syntax"!!!2
-
Just started today with Python 3. I don't know but I really start to like the language. Its not to difficult and it has nice syntax. Currently I'm working on a little financial overview generator. It parses the CSV file from my bank and sorts it into categories. Really fun to make. Do you guys made some nice projects in python?4

Why python can't into proper dependency management?
I Node.js we use npm. Modules are downloaded per project and packaging is easy.
In Java we use maven/gradle. Never been so easy to build and download libraries and package your project.
But in Python? No, it's not easy. You have to use virtualenv first so pip/anaconda won't download globally, then you must write setyp.py in a million different ways. Packaging and distribution to clients? Good luck with that.21 -
Why people are saying Python is an easy language? I mean yes, if you write c/java code with python it may seem easy, but writing proper python code, in a pythonic way is not so easy.
SO DON'T TELL PEOPLE THAT'S IT EASY LANGUAGE because new commers later they come with absurd code and ask people to fix it.7 -
Stop. Using. Fucking. ADA. To. Teach. Basic. Programming.
I wouldn't say you should use a dynamically typed language like Python, but having programed since high school, I hated each and every aspect of Ada. We were even taught OOP and generics with it! (And not, you do not want to know how it is, because it is dreadful)9 -

I'm looking for another language to learn, (something different than the language I use at work)
At work we use php with javascript.
Any suggestions? I'm currently looking towards python, but I am not sure yet14 -

Just thought of this meme template when I got that error. Hope you like it 😅
BTW it was a KeyError in a pandas DataFrame during which, somehow, another KeyError for the same key occurred. I'm not sophisticated enough in Python to explain this though. -

At least try writing it in Javascript or C++, much easier to adapt code to other languages... Maybe I'm just bitter because I hate python ¯\_(ツ)_/¯10 -
I was frustrated with how The programs in my computer (not) worked, so i wanted to change that. I started with Windows batch files and completely drifted off. if you want to encounter 400 lb angry virgin programmers go on r/Python and suggest they should add a static keyword to their classes.
They swarm out of the woodwork and take turns trolling you until a mod bans you for responding in suit.
Its amazing, the dumbest lack of language feature and they're like
'me no want the extra keystroke me like code that can lose peopel, me fo fucks no never, not gonna happen, you asshat, haha, now go bye now, *click*'
valid argument is python classes are lacking in decoration
this i suppose is ok overall, i mean they work. except the issue i was having the other day resulted from a variable not being DOUBLE DECLARED IN BOTH THE CLASS SCOPE AND INSIDE THE CONSTRUCTOR LIKE IT WAS A JS OBJECT BEING INTERPRETED AS A STATIC FIELD !
ADDITIONALLY IF THEY LIKE CONCISE WHY THE FUCK DO ALL THEIR CLASS METHODS REQUIRE YOU TO INCLUDE ===>SELF<== !!!!
BUT NOOOO TRY TO COMPARE SOMETHING SENSIBLE LIKE
MYINSTANCE.HI SHOULD NOT BE STATIC
MYCLASS.HI SHOULD BE STATIC AND THEY GET ALL PISSED
ONE ACTUALLY ACTED REJECTED FOR THE SAKE OF HIS LANGUAGE SAYING 'YOU WANT WHAT PYTHON HAS BUT YOU DON'T WANT PYTHON !'

Why is it that every python project I come across seems to not even want you to use it.
The deployment always sucks, you get some random ass errors because some parts are in python 2 instead of 3 I guess. If there's a C library involved it most definitely won't work. What the fuck is conda and why do I need it to install software?
Where is the documentation to build a release yourself if the public ones don't work?6 -

Python. Oh dear Python. Why, oh why, when I have your function with parameters defined as an int, do you blithely accept a string and just go about your merry day? If I wanted you to be able to accept a string I would have let you accept a string. But no, I want ints. Its not a suggestion. Its a demand.
You're dynamically-typed thug life gets on my static-typed backgrounds nerves.
(I am fully aware of the reasons for it and why, but my goodness I do sometimes miss my static-typed compile error languages, rather than pseudocode that accidently compiles python)25 -
Fuck copy-pasting. I just spent WAY too long trying to figure out why == wasn’t working to compare strings in python when I discovered that I had accidentally pasted a trailing space into the database entry causing it to not be equal

I have been working on IoT projects for last five years. After using MQTT in many of my projects I have realized that there is a huge learning curve for the beginners to understand and implement MQTT in their projects. The packet structure of MQTT is complex and MQTT packets are difficult to debug. Also customizing the open source MQTT brokers are also difficult for the beginners, and sometimes even for the experts.
To make IoT and Messaging simple, I am designing a new protocol which uses JSON packets for data exchange and is far less complex than MQTT. I am also developing an open source project which will contain a server (with load balancer support), a python client, a Javascript client and a python based load balancer. I hope this project will reduce the development time as the protocol is easy to understand and the open source code is fully modular & easy to customize.
This will be my very first contribution to the open source community. Wish me luck! -
Situation: I have a love hate relationship with python due to the lack of types as I have in more established languages such as C#, Java and shit even TypeScript
Situation (cont): A rather large codebase that i have developed for multiple processes at work run on Python.
I don't hate it, I just don't absolutely love it, there is a lot of things to like about Python, but man I do have some conflicts with it, I have been facing out to use other solutions that feel scripty, such as the newer versions of C# with .net, but I would say that about 80% of our codebase runs on Python, the rest is PHP.
I am somewhat traditional in the way my programs run, I started with C++ and Java, then for whatever reason (I blame codecademy at the time) switched over to Ruby and Javascript, mostly Javascript. I do not remember how I found Python, I do remember learning it with an online tutorial, shit was easy to get started with.
My codebase running on Python is huge, and they do a lot from automation scripts, to data gathering and database management, never had I been bitten with the "oh noes is so slow" bug since my code is not Google level big, for everything else Python seems rather fast imho
I dunno, big time love hate relationship9 -
So c++ isn't really ideal for robotics? I could just not understand c++ correctly. I think it's just my terrible understanding of why a compiler is needed. I am an intermediate Python Dev, so I guess I'd like to download the "language" and go, ya know?5

Python async is a total, unapologetic shitshow. It’s as if the design goal was explicitly to invalidate the maximum number of thoughtful stackoverflow QAs possible. Pro tip: make you sure to memorize the release dates of every minor version of python from 3.5-3.10, so that you know which stackoverflow answers are not relevant in any way to your codebase.2

Python trusts you. It says "hey, if you want

a good reason and you're not making trouble."
After all, we're all consenting adults here.5 -
Calling any Python programmer here (especially package maintainers)
I run Gentoo, so am responsible for maintaining the dependency tree (to a degree). When it comes to Python I have 2.7, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 available. I'm always running into some package needing one version or another, and I can't just set a single version and forget it (which is fine. I'm running Gentoo).
I know that this is because python changes rapidly and so different libraries need different versions. Fine.
Why does this happen with Python and not C++, JavaScript, php, ruby, or any other languages on my system? I don't have 3 different versions installed to cover any other languages, and I don't spend time adding installation rules to cover them.
Why does Python need to be a pain in the ass about it?3 -
Python be like:

Anaconda. Quite fitting a name to something that fucks up python environments so thoroughly. Ironic too, given that it was meant to simplify. Anaconda doesn't give a shit about the python that came with the distro. And all packages installed with pip are only visible to anacondas python. Not a single note of caution during installation. Or a best practices guide for the newbie. Just chaos. Utter chaos. The price of being a noob had been paid.8

For fuck sake, stop complaining about the number of js libs. There is just as many if not more c/c++/c#/java/python/ruby/php... libs.
Just because they are available on npm or github, it doesn't mean you have to fucking see/read/use it1 -
Started out with python, while meaning to learn javascript.
I am now competent in python. Im still not sure how it happened.
Started python because I got tired with doing repetative calculations by hand. I think I had like a phobia of problem solving with nested loops. any time I thought a problem would require nesting, especially more than one nested loop, I would just avoid doing it, or end up doing it by hand.
Wrote so many goddamn loops though in the process of exploring graphs, doing things by hand seems like a nuisance. Thinking in loops has its own zen or something.
Now I just need to get over my fear of json-based CLI-enabled configuration-over-convention.1 -
Any tips for attending my first hackathon? Keep in my mind I am not too well versed in applications with JS/Python. Also I really don't have a lot of real life project experience. I am super excited though.2

~ I knew a little bit of Django ~

~ I used to like Python ~
~ Not so anymore ~
~ Why though ~
~ I don’t know ~
I use JS professionally and I have majorly coded in JS in personal projects but I always had this liking towards Python. Now, that feeling is gone. Python doesn’t seem that attractive. JS seems better.
One of the reasons, I feel, is the syntax. JS can fuck-up in places but that C-style syntax is love.
Another reason could be that I still don’t know that much Python or Django to make an opinion? Maybe. Probably.9 -

I just learned the hard way not to recklessly daemonize stuff; I ran into a case where my Python script crashes Python itself.
The issue was that one of the query that “requests” package makes for OS was not fork safe, thus causing a segfault. Since Python drops dead as soon as it receives SIGSEGV, all I had was macOS crash log (which is oftentimes hard to decipher). I spent like good one hour before I found “faulthandler” package which enabled me to log the stack trace to stderr and see what the f*<k was going on.
I mean, I’ve seen quite a lot of occurrences of thread safety issues, but now it’s fork safety!?
Maybe I should be sticking to Docker or something unless the situation *really* requires me to daemonize something lol2 -

So today I got to see one of the most stupid architectural choices I have ever seen.
They have a service-oriented architecture. Mainly Python and Elixir.
A lot of computation goes in the Python services.
And the Elixir services as used to expose RestApi. Basic ones, basically DB proxies.
Not a lot of async, or communication... Just plain CRUD.
Why the fuck do you use Elixir for that?? And now they can't recruit someone... And the CTO doesn't get why it was a stupid choice!!!
And in python, they use async functions with sync DB APIs...1 -
I need a new language/framework/ANYTHING. I miss the doing-stupid-shit-but-being-excited-about-it-anyway-coz-NEW-LANGUAGE euphoria :'/
And no not python, that shit is shitty.13 -
I basically hate anything that IDEs aren't smart to fix typos.

So I’m writing this random number generator app just because so many apps charge you for this simple thing and posted my progress somewhere else. And this guy just commented: you can do it in python in 2 lines

Not a single year passes that the problem of python2 vs python3, as a dependency, doesn’t bite me in the ass. Node modules frequently fail to build, awscli suddenly can’t find the python it needs because homebrew apparently hard-links to python3 in Cellar... Seriously, W T F?! Fuck you python!!!! You fucking assholes!!! Fuck you and go fucking die!!

Dear Python devs who complain over state of Javascript. I politely ask you to fuck off because followin reasons. You are praising language witch does not have switch case statement(until 3.10), your async is just a stolen idea from JS and final argument that in pyhon there is one way to do everything is such bullshit when it comes to strings. For some reason i meet JS people who can write Python without much complaining but rarely another way around. Everytime Python fanboy sees JS they need instant tampons to stop their ass bleeding.7

Old colleague reached out to me. He needed to reinstall one of my web apps (combination of python, php and Javascript (frontend)).

I enjoy Visual Studio, but the installer is GARBAGE.
My install of 2017 didn't come with a certain package, so I go to the installer to add it. Thing constantly fails with "could not find file" in the txt log. Turns out I had python packages for it too, since during this update python decided to have a fit in another project because modules and pylint suddenly disappeared.

Greetings to my fellow developers and also my friends which I consider you all to be to me!, so very recently I stumbled upon someone by the name of ‘George Hotz’ I really think thats his last name but anyways to continue!.
I watched many of his coding streams (he seems to use python all the time) so friends, He seems to be pre good at what he does, and it really inspired/motivated me to learning python, and I really hope not for the wrong reasons 🤓😅, so how do i go around to getting onto that level of being a python dev? Just some back story I started with c# then went to c++,
Personally I’m finding it quite the struggle to understand python😅, I’m currently trying to learn by using a book called head first in Python, i personally love how the book is made through many pictures and less wording :D , and also i use IDLE which looks to be a learning given by python 🤓
So everyone, I’d once again like to say thank you for reading my very long message or post, I appreciate your time to read it also! I know i seem to ramble on alot but my bad 😅, i hope you have a wonderful day/night wherever you may be ❤️

You know why I know that Francois Chollet's Deep Learning with Python is a good book for beginners?
He takes the idea of A.I in the context of Machine Learning and Python, and makes people realize that we are not going to have big tiddy android girls from her till McCarthy knows when.
Well that sucks. One of my sole purposes behind getting to AI was to have me own Jarvis that could help me build 2B.

I wanted to get the latest NASA APOD photo with Python. Easy, right? Nope! Firstly, their RSS feed is partly HTML, so feedparser doesn't understand it. Secondly, feedparser doesn't even get the titles of entries correctly.
Which is why I'm trying to parse it in a horrible way using Python regexp. NASA can put humans on Luna but not even get their RSS feeds to parse properly.2 -
Web server configuration sucks.
Apache or nginx have they're own custom configuration language and I don't understand why.
We've plenty of languages to work with: why we should learn some another custom commands with enigmatic commands for weird stuffs.
I'm not a python funboy but, a web server with python based configuration file will be so easy to setup and to maintain.9 -

So anxious about my job interview with Google on the morning and that I've been up all night brushing up on my Python. And no, that's not a euphemism --but I did take some breaks };-)

I had a logistical problem at my cnc job. Went to java. Then python. Then webdev with freecidecamp. Soon I'll have my certification as a front end and a I'll go on with back end. During this I make python script to make my wifes business easier to maintain and I want to start developing android apps soon. I'm 30 btw. I hope it's not too late... :)

Hey, I'm new here, this is my first post and I want to start asking:
I'm not very good at Java and I'd like to learn Python but I don't have much time to improve Java and learn Python.
What should I focus on? (having in mind job offers and future)
Is it worthy to learn both?6 -
I just wasted a good half hour trying to figure out why my Python dictionary was in alphabetical order.
I’ve had issues with dictionary order before with 3.5, but that was more or less Python just wanting to put shit in the order IT wants, not alphabetical. And I haven’t had that in months, not since updating to 3.6.
Long story short, VS Code has decided to show me my dictionaries in alphabetical order when I hover over them while stepping code. If I do a print statement, it shows the dictionary in the correct order.
Seriously, you don’t need to do me any favors here.
Oh, the adventures I have with Visual Studio when Python is involved...3 -
The standard python Dict is NOT BLOODY ORDERED which I forgot meaning two hours of debugging why my CSV columns were in the wrong order.
PSA: Dict is not ordered as you would expect. Use collections.OrderedDict -
Hey erm, any idea to deal with the programmer who constantly suggests me to use python in everything?
I complain about Java the other day from my frustration on certain thing...(on security), then he keep telling me that "USE PYTHON " which I'm not interested......at the moment...
It is annoying.....12 -
!something annoying
I've always had this in the back of my head, and off lately it's eating me alive.
Why don't we just rename python3 to python and Python to python2?
no I'm not gonna alias it in my shell. I'm talking about renaming them in all the distros.
there've been talks about renaming python3 to python and marking it as the default for quite long, but nothing has come of it yet.
I get that a lot of shit is gonna go down if this happens rn, systems breaking, migrations, panic, a lot of systems still working on python2 but we need to migrate.
we've also been hearing a lot of speculation about "Python 4", from earlier this year.
WHAT IS HAPPENING UGHHHH
pls revolution now7 -
When you get called from someone at two employers back because of some Python code you wrote back then asking why their changes in the code do not work and you know exactly by the way they talk they just messed up the indentation. *facepalm*

I have to add into develop a code made by a university researcher. The code is in Python 2 for no reason, not all the docstrings are there, no comments (of course) and many, many anti-pythonic practices.

I am studying Physics at the Leiden University and part of the education is an introduction course to python. Luckily following class is not obligated... It's super boring...8

I'm learning python and I feel more and more like it!
I either have too much space, or not enough. And this is screwing my chance to pick up tabs... -
How can I find someone to help me while I learn python?
I mean not necessarily a mentor like an online friend to talk about programming stuff and help us mutually11 -
Self learned. I was introduced to programming quite early courtesy my dad who pushed me to use Linux. At first I learned basics, enough to tinker with stuff. Then I met python. It changed my world. Now I know C, C++, JS, PHP, Obj-C fluent enough and am working on others. But python will always have a sweet spot in my heart. Also, I think python 3 is a good improvement over 2. Not perfect. But good enough and it still has a future.

Python is an example of a language which is far, far too high-level for my liking; to provide a reference for my preference, C++ is one of my favourite languages, because it is versatile while remaining somewhat verbose, while Python tosses that verbosity out of the window while not functioning as one would expect it to function after reading a lot of the documentation.3

Hello everyone
Do any of you python programmers have any tips for simple projects you can do to learn python?
I am mainly a backend/system engineer comig from C++, slowly picking up rust and have been using bash as my scripting language so far. bash is nice because it is so fundamental in the linux world but you just dont get very far with it and its usually not pleasant to write.
So I would like to learn python, though I have no idea what I can do to practice it, so that I can just quickly whip up a script the next time I need something done in the file system or want to write a simple parser for something.
Do you guys have an idea of something small (not necessarily useful) which makes use of pythons strengths? Just looking for ideas here, so stick it all out 👋💕12 -
Friday so not much happened except after switching mysql connector it turned out mysql-connector-python can’t handle blobs properly.
Funny that answer on SO is not to use it.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions...
It’s not obvious cause all you get is error when selecting from table that have blob.
Also I bought two books full of slavic bestiary drawings and descriptions of monsters.
Those drawings are pretty cool. I plan to try to make low polygon model from one of the drawings using blender 2.83 -
Started learning Python yesterday and with the help of the mighty internet I wrote a script that tells me how many lines of Java code I have written in a project. Just 9 lines of python and it works like a charm. Was so excited that I tried to tell my non Dev friends about it, but they where like "yeah, what ever"... I am always kinda sad that so many people aren't interested in programming, not even a tiny bit :/
But anyways... Python my love, where have you been all my life?2 -
After days of debugging server errors by tonnes of back-and-forth emailing with my hosting company, we finally arrived on the conclusion that I need to upgrade my account to be able to successfully execute python scripts.
This is apparently because when uploading files, they get encoded into a format that python doesn't like. APPARENTLY the ONLY solution is to create the files with the command line. How convenient that the command line is not made available to plebs not renting their premium package.
I guess this is what you get when paying the equivalent of $10 per year for web hosting.1 -
Most people who talk about language performance are just repeating what they heard from others.
For 98% of use cases, Python or Ruby, for example, are more than fine for running production systems at scale.
Also, a language does not necessarily guarantee speed/performance if you write shit code.
I've seen a properly written Python application perform better than a Java application.
I'd love to stop having this debate with folks every time.12 -
Fuck those weird encoding issues with Python! I've read the HowTo Unicode 10 or 20 times and I still got those 'ordinal not in range error'!!!2
-
You'd think I'd fucking learn by now to check for typos before going off on a tangent of over complicated reasons why something may not be working... Learning python/django for the first time, and have been trying to figure out how to run gunicorn... turns out I was typing myproject.wgsi rather than myproject.wsgi...
Though I suppose not knowing about how python modules work added to my confusion... still... ugh... -
Just learnt python for data science online. Suddenly, have this awesome idea for an app. Thanks to kivy, I could work with python. But wait, X websites find it good enough, Y websites not. And cross platform frameworks seem to be all Js. Basically, pursuing new idea means starting from literal scratch.

Python3's asyncio is awesome.
In an IoT server we used python2 socket programming with multi-threading. Recently I have changed the socket layer to python 3 asyncio and performance was far better. I am not gonna use multi-threading anymore.
What do you guys think about asyncio?1 -
Not being suitable for eveything is my biggest annoyance with Python. Give me Python with the performance of assembler and I'll be in heaven :)6

Been going on some interviews recently and realized I'm not the best at interview style coding challenges. I was wondering if there's a good app/website with coding challenges to solve, or even a game? Preferably using JavaScript or Python.2

Does anyone by any chance know how to pipe binary data out of Python? I digged through the first 10 pages of Google, but none of that did what I needed. I know how to pipe things between subprocesses, but not to the stdout of Python.7

Hello folks. This is not a rant but a call to comrades for suggestion and advice. Currently, Java programmer by profession. I am planning on migrating to Python and am looking to start learning. Looking around for tutorials/projects/courses to learn. Please suggest your insights. Thank you.

Dear C++ / Java developers.
Please do not write Python, or do utilize helper libraries / pythonisms.
Not EVERYTHING has to be done by hand, it's not CS class anymore. Classes are fine too, not everything has to be passed as comma separated string. Python is proper Object-Oriented language, not scripting tool like Bash.4 -
More like :
For number in range(5){
Your code
}
Or
For number in range(5)
{
Your code
}

Ok I know this is stupid question and not rant, but I just finished school and need to go to the high school and want do build some projects. So I'm pretty good with HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQLI, and in high school I want to learn python. I already know some stuff with python I built programs for 'hacking' but I don't know what programs do I need to learn to build if I want to work somewhere... Sorry if my English is bad.. :)9

My dear developers I would really appreciate if you could recommend me technology for diving into web development. I am thinking about django/python or laravel/php but I am not sure.

I am using python scripts for mathematical computations and deep learning wheres spring to build the server and now want to handle the scripts from spring guess what scripts were in python 3.6 and fucking jython does not support it.. so tried finding the different libs like jpy , jpe and analysisRPC.. Everything seems just bullshit .
Finally using Kafka to have my interprocess communication.. -
The fact python is mainstream and attracts most juniors with just high salary expectations doesn't means that python is that bad.
Im not in love with python, but ruby is much worse in all the weak points of py and no one cares.
Fuck ruby and it's eval culture xs11 -
I know Python but never done web-development and needed it for one or two project. The requirement is some data-api and graph. There is flask and django but I'm not sure how should I proceed. ????11

Python rant. Why does my 500 line Flask file look like one long oblong, & why am I adding comments that say “end of function” in *any* programming language when surely clear visual marking of this should be built in? Why did I spent 2 hours debugging SQLite3 dict factory function only to find the issue was a misaligned indented function block that my linter hadn’t picked up on because it appeared to be a logic error. Why do you make my missing tab spaces into logic errors Python? And why does everyone insist that curly braces are just as bad? Not in my world Python. Also, stop returning obscure objects unannounced like I’m supposed to know about it in advance, and stop making me run an entire file only to find I have another mystery type error because I expected x and got y. I hate you Python!!4

When I run this Python code on Dcoder, they shows that they are using Python 3.6.8, and not 3.7.1 as they claim. This is why I cannot use dataclasses.
(And yes, I am having an idea about a template engine)1 -
One of our partners sent me a Key Injection Tool to inject encryption keys into a PINPAD with. Looks like they were short on developers and had to hire Python typists who have made a mess of a simple AES encryption/decryption. When do these companies learn that writing a security related software in Python is not really secure? I had to read the rubbish in Python and read it from scratch in C++ to get it to work, and am now contemplating whether to provide that company with my version of their Key Injection Tool or not...2

Comment 👇 #pythonprogramming vs #cprogramminglanguage
Python is fresh and demanded technology in the market but C is great for building a strong foundation. The essence of programming comes from thinking 🤔 and languages are just a medium.
If #python is a big giant means not C is outdated.10 -
So I’ve been enjoying JS but I hadn’t programmed in python in a bit so I decided to do a small project but that turned into me putting JS aside and I’m pissed now because that was not my intention so I’m just putting my python down until a learn JS and the other languages I plan on learning cause I gotta get that out of the way

Hey guys, how do you feel about the death of Python 2. As a stupid person I love Python and it's the only language I can somewhat understand 10% of. What's going to change by moving to 3? Any of you guys adversely affected by any of this?? Broken projects? Lack of support? I really regret not teaching myself programming when my brain was still spongey.....it's just a ball of poop right now.6

Just started to get the hang of python (PyQt6). Surprisingly I couldn't find a switch-case syntax. I then saw some blogs with using match-case. Added the code but my ide showed errors: Python version 3.9 does not support match statements. Wtf! Then in S/O there are so many stuff about a "council".HUH?!?2

I have been working on this whole day but is not able to find a way around this.
I want to create an xsd from a given Python class. I want to automate this process and we have a bunch of such classes.
What I have found numerous times today is "How to convert XSD to Python class " for which there are bunch of libraries such as PyXB and generateDS.
Asked a question on stack overflow but there is no response.
Can anyone help me with this2 -

Hi everyone
I have a python script that continuously collects data for me. I want to be able to display that data on a node js server. How should I go about this? WHAT THE FUCK IS THE GOOGLE SDK FOR?
ya I get it you connect to it.
It doesnt give local directory to Google Directory, it doesnt run ssh commands nor python commands. WHAT THE FUCK IS IT FOR?
DO I MAKE A BUCKET NOT COMPUTE ENGINE?
DO I SHOOT MYSELF IN THE FOOT AND DELETE THE PROJECT DUE TO HAVING AN OVERFLOW OF PYTHON FILES IN WRONG DIRECTORIES?

I am currently trying to set up a unit-test using Python Django framework.
I follow the official documentation step by step. I completed the steps.
It spits out an error: the table does not exist in the database.
Seriously, do you need any more proof that Python is bad? The developers of Python framework cannot even put together a working tutorial. If the unit-test framework requires the database then it should auto-create the tables3 -
Why NOT much Solidity Blockchain Jobs out there?
Just a quick question , I see a lot of people claiming to teach blockchain development by teaching solidity , React and making full stack Dapps with web3. ( thats it ) Now there are other articles and stuff that you python and node.js as well to teach blockchain. But for now I am calling out the major tutorials/yTube channels etc. [ wont be taking names , am sorry ]
But when you go out in the job market. there is simply NOT enough jobs under this area.
yes there are jobs of blockchain dev, but then they have a huge part of them including Python/node.js/java.
So what should I draw out a conclusion , u simply cannot be a blockchain developer without being a full stack MERN/Python-React/Java-React. developer2 -
Python working non-deterministic on VSCode? That just happened ... somehow, wtf??
Getting a list from a method and comparing its last element with an int value. Always worked before like a charm, didn't change a thing. All of a sudden TypeError, cannot run anymore? Restart VSCode, run again, still not running ... ?? Retry and print the element, in case I've surprisingly actually been an idiot all along ... nope, value looks in print as expected. Continue execution, suddenly condition works again. WTF just happened??? Caching, python extension bug, anything like that to blame?1
