I hope everyone's wife / mom is feeling proud.

I was at my uncle's village.
Where getting internet is big thing, very far from main city.
I was talking with one shopkeeper.
I told him ,I am software developer.
He ask me questions that
"How can I improve my business using software?"
To help me figure out situation.
He told me problems he is facing right now.
Accounting/inventory management/contact's with big retailers.
He was so genuinely explaining it.
He don't want next billion dollar startup.
He want to solved his problem.
I am really impressed after that conversation because person who don't know what is excel is talking about ERP software.
I am going to develop that software.

Overheard this guy talking to his friends about Python.
Guy: "Have you seen Python?? You basically just talk to the computer. There's no variables. You just go 'a = 2' and you can print 'a' and it'll give you 2! And there's no imports or anything!"15 -

I fucking hate python and myself even more. Python is easy they say, Python has nice syntax but fuck you . Fuck you seriously I cringe if I see non-c-like syntax. Every time I leave my comfort zone I get fucked over by damn semicolons. Fuck this imports i don't know your damn library. But god damn In far too advanced for hello world. There are two versions and the lib I want to use is incompatible? Well fuck me? That kind of shit never hit me on PHP. Damn me! Fuck you python. I want to know you but you fuck me harder than life. GEHÖRT? DU FICKST MICH HÄRTE ALS DAS LEBEN DU HURENSOHN!!!!
What is even your problem? Indentation? Well thank you for not having braces! I mean come on I try, I really do. I know you are different but every thing I want to learn about you is either for uber beginners or so advanced I don't even know what's going on. Do magical shit in a few lines? What the fuck is in those packages? A wizard full filling whishes like "plz make this work"?
But don't worry you cum snorting unicorn as much as I hate you I'm more mad about me for not being a descendant of fucking slytherin!16 -

No, listen to me. I cannot approve this PR because your code does not comply with our code style. All the imports and annotations must be sorted in ascending order by length. They must all make fir-like blocks of code. Because it looks nice.
Now go and fix your code
I just smiled and walked away to obfuscate my code with firs . I had no idea what to even say to that... I still don't14 -
Python: I hate the way it uses True/False over true/false
Java: Static. Just fuck static. oh and System.out.println(), why the fuck did they make the basic print function so long to write.
C#: I despise the way the curly braces get automatically put under the function declaration rather than beside it since it's a language style thing.
C: the inability to declare vars in altho declaration of a forloop. Although I think C11 let's you do this.
Javascript: Fucking prototypes.
Coldfusion: it runs like an elephant. Slow and heavy.
Go: The way the compiler won't let you have unused variables/imports. Pain in the ass for testing.17 -

Why do people have to lie? I am seriously getting tired of it.
Context: While I was on vacation the company hired some guy we’ll call Bob.
Bob is a senior with 10+ years of experience. 5 of those years in React (supposedly).
I got back from vacation and was told I’d be working on a project with Bob.
I’ve worked in teams before so I thought no problem.
Now I am aware that different people have different styles, so that’s why we agreed on a lint config with some fancy git hooks.
I was excited at first because the project actually seems nice, but my excitement soon turned into terror.
First of all, Bob doesn’t seem to understand Git…fair enough, I’ll give him a quick guide…
Mf calls me at 11pm on a Friday because he can’t push because the tests are failling.
Now tests. Bob doesn’t write those. Great.
We had created a few components to use throughout the project.
Bob seems to consistently forget what components are and why you write them and just imports the defaults from the UI library we’re using.
Bob also has a kink for hardcoding values for some reason.
I talked to Bob multiple times about this and he just tells me he’ll change it but in the end the PR stays open for 5 days, before it’s actually me who goes in and fixes it. Oh and yeah this shit keeps happening over and over again.
Now I know some of us devs hate meetings but for the love of God Bob just show up. You don’t even have to speak. Or at least answer a message that corresponds to the working hours and not in the middle of the night.
I am getting tired of this behavior and am seriously holding back from reporting this to the management. It’s been a month and I am seriously worried about the project. I have my own stuff to do but it takes time for me to clean up his absolute mess that doesn’t even pass the CI.
Call me an asshole I don’t care. It’s been a month and I’m legit worried about the future of the project.20 -

Last week, the team lead told me that he can't merge because my code has code smells and going forward, can't have that. We use Sonar and well the way to "fix it" according to him is to mark the line using //NOSONAR.
Most of the issues are minor like Unused imports and for me incomplete TODOs.
And before the "verbal" rule was only need to fix Major + issues. And well the reason I use TODOs is to mark code that probably needs changing in the future. I know there's going to be some feature that these lines have to be changed. But the requirements are fully defined yet from business.
But I sort of blew up on him. YOU WANT TO ENFORCE ZERO CODE SMELLS NOW?!?!?! AND THESE MINOR ISSUES? MARK THEM WITH NOSONAR?
HERE'S WHAT I THINK FOR THE LAST X YEARS... THE CODE DESIGN IS SHIT, MINOR CODE SMELLS AND MANUALLY MARKING THE ONES U NEED TO KEEP... ARE THE LEAST OF OUR PROBLEMS...
THE OTHER PROBLEMS I'VE MENTIONED BEFORE EVER. MOS YEAR BUT YOU DIMWITS NEVER LISTEN.
YOU THINK MY TODOS ARE BAD... 90% OF THE CODE AND FEATURES (THE ONES NOT DONE BY ME) LOOK AND SMELL LIKE MONKEY SHIT. UNDOCUMENTED, MESSY, FULL OF BUGS.
AND GUESS WHAT? NEW FEATURE, SOME DEV FORGETS TO CHANGE SOME COMPONENT THAT DEPENDS ON IT. WOULDN'T IT BE GREATE IF THERE WERE BOOKMARKS... O WAIT...
i just was catching up on comics again and saw this one... with triggered my memory and this rant... My first thought was to forward it to him...11 -

So after a llllllloooooonnnnnnngggggg struggle with the team i've been working with, today is the day that my group move to a different org and start working with a different team.
This is a huge step in the right direction for us and we are so happy. This new team is much bigger, but has been around for a lot longer and has proper processes in place and works a lot smoother. Never going to be perfect, but still going to be much more workable and we are so ...... thats an interesting linter file, hhhmmm they have disabled all the checks for the stuff that will cause crashes, like force unwrapping ... but they've enabled the rule to make sure our imports are sorted alphabetically

I've run into problems with the app I'm working on, the problems are related to issues regarding code.
No in fact it's related the last guy who wrote the app, the code has no comments and the variable names make no sense, the only comments in the code are blocks of code... With no reason as to why it was commented.
I have to add in some checks to determine if a person that has logged in is a full member or not (full member has access to the feature I've added) and the way the guy has made this app works makes no sense to me at all.
I've tried my best to avoid all contact with his code because it makes me want to yell out in frustration.
But for this one case I have to work with what's there.
I know I've mentioned this before but I've hit my limit yet again.
And for those who don't know this guy managed to scrape together skeleton code from two apps to make part of this app, rather than using parts of the other apps he left out code that was specifically made for the other apps, (majority of the commented out code).
One app was a taxi app and from the looks of it the feature he used was to get GPS location (which I don't understand before Google maps is a think after all... The taxi app USES Google maps), the other app is some sort of funeral webcasting app (I found code imports for it, without any actual code).
I don't actual understand how this guy could put this together without not thinking "maybe this is a bad idea"
Always code as if the person who ends up maintaining your code is a violent psychopath who knows where you live
I'm that psychopath right now..... Fuck that guy (don't know where he lives though)1 -

Debian 9.3's gpg issue is driving me crazy! I can't install anything outside of the default apt repos no matter what I try.
No matter what, apt always does the exact same thing. It adds the repo; then finds, imports, and processes the key; and finally fails with "gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found."
I've spent hours looking this up and trying to fix it.
Just. ARGH!

I'm currently one of two "pen testers" for the anticheat system of a game.
It all started a few days ago when the developer handed me the obfuscated package and told me to go at it. No big deal, I've bypassed it before the obfuscation, so I just changed some imports and sent in the screenshot.
Fast forward 100+ hours, it's turned into a cat-and-mouse game. He sends us (the testers) an update, we break it within hours. We show him what we exploited and he attempts to fix it. Rinse and repeat.
Finally, today he patched the one hole that I've been using all this time: a field in a predictable location that contains the object used for networking. Did that stop me? No!
After hours of searching, I found the field in an inner class of an inner class. Here we go again.3 -

F: ok let's see.

M: look sending failed
F: Seriously man, I didn't know that.
M: It's ok bro next time inform me before buying any electronics.
F: sure
M: my treat?
F: Yup
*for next few days, he was thinking that Bluetooth need a network to send files until whole group laugh on him*4 -
Dear client, if you can't be bothered to check more than two data points during several test imports, why are you surprised your production import has errors in the other 10k+ data points? Different class comes up from suggestions. The IDE automatically pulls in a bunch of useless imports to make your code work. Your code doesn't work, that's not the right type...

I love my adhd kicks. My webstorm trial ended, I downloaded vscode, hated the bindings, I then used thr intellij extension. Everything ok expect autocomplete, not a fan of tab, couldn't use enter to enter enter as a binding. Hacked that binding.json, idk how i ended up installing a json sorter extension, ow theres a imports sorter. Okay what exactly i wanted to do? Right, do my niche site. Bad idea, i had written it in kotlin js, (missing intellij already) so i searched for almost non-scripting framework. Idk what happened...i ended up being interested in tailwind. Tried it a bit, ow they have tailwind ui. Thinking about buying the sweet shit. Ow i see headless UI... Pause, threw tailwind out. Thinking about react, met Solid, loved it, yarned and npmed it. Extension time, auto tag rename, more emmet like shit, rainbow and fira fonts, theme, scheme, ow colors whaaaw. Okay, its not gonna look like or feel like intellij, more like IDEA community if i had made the ide. What was i making again? Ah my webcrapp. still (idea)less... I went to codepen, grew a beard, came out, still feeling powerfully uncreative. Last stop: awwwards.. ow that awesome 7up nl site, imma see it, they nuked the animations, everything. This is where the rant actually ends, because THANK GOD I DONT FULLSTACK FOR A LIVING!!! Swift, Kotlin, XML and unpredictable Gradle is good enough for me to stop me from going wild. Stay safe. EASY LANGUAGE GO TO HELL14 -
I recently realized that I've been using 2 text editors and 1 IDE pretty much at the same time for different purposes.
Atom -> Code Beautification (atom-beautify is simply the best)
VSCode -> for actual coding (blazing fast and quite good completions)
Webstorm -> cleanup the code, optimize imports
And that made me thing why is it so hard to have all these things in one application (be it a core feature or a plugin/extension). And then I realized smth, only webstorm more has all the features built in, but I don't need/want full IDE for web development (Angular / React) alas it has great features like component automatic imports etc, but not a deal breaker.
So I am having a dilllema. On one hand, Atom has everything I need (especially atom-beautify, my OCD is at peace) except for proper completions (partially solved with extensions) and terminal integrations. On the other hand, VSCode is very fast, has good code assistance but half-broken import completions and terrible code beautification even with extensions such as jsbeautify that require you to have a separate file for each project instead of it being an editor setting/plugin like in Atom.
/* insert joke here */ When will Atom and VSCode go super Saiyan mode and become "Atomized Visual Code" :P I wanna stop bunny hopping between editors!2 -
So recruiter scheduled an interview and he gave me the hands on problem they'll ask me to code.
He says I'll get 60-90 minutes... so I tried coding it and I've come up with some questions I will be asking the interviewer before I start:
1. How professional do you want it?
2. Can I use my own libraries so I don't have to write the boilerplate stuff? (That should cut-off about 30 mins and make the logic much clearer)
3. Can I write it on a PC?
4. Can I not write the Imports
5. Can we just skip this? As we all know, you can see 90% of the elements needed for your program in some form in my GitHub repos.4 -
Constructors, generics, collections, package versioning, immutability, syntactic sugar, option types? Meh.
Unused imports? NEVER!

Turns out, one of my seniors had purposely changed the CDN URL from bootstrap to bootystrap :|
He said, "and that's why in web dev, when nothing works, start by checking your imports"

Always include import statements. Always. No excuses. I don't care if you can't be arsed to copy-n-paste an extra bit of code.
Nothing worse than trying to learn something new, copy-n-paste a sample code then your wonderfully helpful IDE asks you which of the 8 matching packages you wish to import.
When someone asks me, "where did you get that", I don't simply say, "a shop"!!
If you don't include your imports in answers then I hate you.6 -

Been bughunting the last week or so on this import job that is suddenly running so slowly that it takes more than 24h and is restarting on top of itself.
It used to run in anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, which was bad enough. You see, it ran on timer scheduled by our main site. So our deployment window was determined by when this job finished, and if it didn't finish during work hours, then no deployment that day.
So we got the idea to move it to a separate service to eliminate that deployment window bottleneck. And now, seemingly unrelated, it is just running slow as shit.
There is a lot of bad design in the code, and we know we want to build a completely new solution. But we also absolutely need this import to run every day until a better solution can take over.
We've taken care of some of the most obvious problems that could cause the poor performance, but it's unclear whether it's going to be enough. And with a runtime of about a day and wild variations of the most atomic partial imports, it's extremely tedious to test as well...3 -

I am php laravel developer with little knowledge about nodejs.
I got selected by one startup as nodejs developer.
frankly I am not better nodejs developer than my competition who were rejected.
I completed oral interview with my nodejs theory knowledge at a time of technical round , they gave us task to create crud with fantastic front end and nodejs mongo as a back end.
I developed front end in bootstrap but at a time of backend, I just copy paste code from github.
and changed everything variable and other proof to hide reality. in mean time other candidates were actually coding everything then I took time to understand this code and I submitted after few candidates.
in last round they ask me to explain code which I explained properly and I get salary 40k/month INR.
I know it is cheating but I wanted this job badly.6 -

I knew AngularJS, just learnt Angular. Realized what typescript is and how amazing it is. I am a .Net guy so creating lambda functions in typescript made me excited lol. It's a little frustrating to write "imports" in every TS file though. Can now add ✔️Angular and ✔️typescript to my resume 😉. Starting with Vue.JS as soon as I am done playing with Angular.2

I like how software is smart so I have to do things twice instead of once.
Automatically putting quotes works only if you put quotes and then paste inside it, the problem is I usually paste then put first quote and then need to remove second quote and put it on back and remove second quote from back.
Video start from where you left automatically fires and shows closing credits because you obviously want to see them.
Evaluate variable removes old evaluation because why you want old one when you have new.
Collapsing imports or functions in ide so you need to expand them all the time because who needs to look at functions when we have ai
AI models suggesting and adding meaningless annotations and code suggestions to distract me.
Randomly running some console command because I entered keyboard shortcut I don’t know even exists.
Literally every web browser address bar becomes advertising network instead of showing me history results.
Shadowing browsing history when you click back and forward button.
Search results are now buy results.
Suggesting me useless crap to watch because I watched one video in that topic.
Showing me 10 minutes videos as a solution to my problem where I want to find exact line of text to copy paste it. If I’m lucky I need to write text from video into my computer.
Stack overflow infinite loop of answered in #some-different-question
I think it’s about time for me to slowly retire from programming and software as a whole or switch to notepad because I don’t want to use this crap anymore.
Looks like software is now meant for entertainment and distraction instead of doing actual work where you need precise data and information.
Luckily if everything goes good I can retire soon and throw everything away for a while.3 -
I might be new to webdev , but wtf is wrong with imports in js ?
html seems to get the only decent way of dealing with js: all the files mentioned in subsequent <script> tags can access the functions of previous file
but when it comes to those generated html content(aka react projects) and servers, nobody seems to come to an agreement : react guys uses import while server people uses require. and both of these can't be used in the same file : import works in mjs files (or usual files too if type is defined as module) while require works in cjs file (or usual js files if type is NOT defined as module)
so i kind of like imports for its elegance and resembelence to java imports. and i might have got into some errors in unrelated areas , so my package.json has type=module . i want to use some cjs package (jsonwebtoken) and that shit for the love of god won't work with import, so i gotta use it with cjs file and then the whole project can't use that crappy cjs file.
WTAF ? has web world not got matured enough to not have this shitty import export situation?should i write caveman code and convert everything to require(..) ?
fuck me6 -
I've been working on an Emscripten emulation layer for a fledgling startup, and it's just a huge bitch. Seriously, Emscripten is the worst designed project I've ever seen. It embeds constants into a js file that it spits out. It turns out you can't fucking run the wasm that Emscripten emits without these magic constants from the js file.
Additionally, all the wasm imports that emscripten specifies are weirdly cased, with apparently no naming convention. They also use some weird, shitty vararg implementation when it already fucking knows exactly how many arguments are going to get passed to an import.
Also, there are a ton of broken things left over from when emscripten compiled to asm.js that they never bothered to replace with features from wasm. God knows how it even works. -
May be it is small thing to many people's but as a less experience Developer it is big thing for me.
I AM GOING TO LEAD PROJECT.😊
Ohk project is not so big..3 -
Reviewed the code of a dev almost twice my age and asked why they used relative imports for seemingly no reason.
Response: “because I can”
OK, then.7 -
You had two additional weeks to improve your project.
You could research different marketing strategies to increase revenue. You could add some new features to attract more users and ensure your existing users are satisfied. Finally, you could optimize performance to make your UI quicker.
But you’ve chosen to write some unit tests. Now that two weeks are gone, you got no new features, no performance improvements and no new marketing strategies while your competitors got them all.
Tests caught obvious bugs that can even be caught by static typing, but you by definition couldn’t write tests that’ll catch unpredictable bugs, so they are still present.
After six months you realize you have to rewrite a major part of your project because your project (surprise-surprise) has to chase market needs to stay relevant. Your tests are thrown into trash along with your old code.
“Having trouble with code quality? Write a lot of tests. And I mean a *lot*. Test every file in isolation. Mock as many imports as possible.
When you're done, your code will still be bad, but now your tests will make sure it's impossible to improve anything in any meaningful way.”12 -

I mentioned in a previous rant that one of my favorite games of all times (CrossCode) was written in HTML5 and Javascript. I have been playing the game again (this time on the ps5) and continue to be surprised at the monumental force of the game. So, I decided to take a look at the "original" game engine in which the game is built. ImpactJS. So, apparently (and I have not looked at the inner workings of the code) the creator had a module system in which files could be imported before module imports was a thing in Javascript, not only that but it had a class system mimic in place to deal with things, with inheritance and everything in between. Fucking fascinating. Now, one can actually see the dev logs of a new project that Radical Fish is working on, their primary target remains, but now they seem to be using TypeScript with a plethora of other things in order to build the game, they essentially took the game engine and re-modified the fuck out of it to come with something different. And it fucking worked, beautifully.
From my other findings, it seems that they had to jump through some hoops to get the games to run on consoles, specially the Nintendo Switch which we all know it is a bitch to port into, but apparently the underlying tech is built on Haxe using something known as Kha, a portable multimedia lib.
This is interesting to me as someone that always admired game development, and I sometimes wonder if they would just be better served using something like C# as a target platform with something that they could mold up from the ground up like MonoGame.
I am probably not going to work tomorrow in order to stay in playing the game all day lmao.
Game devs are amazing really. And this game is a jewel, try out the demo online if you have not yet and see what you think:

One of the students I'm a TA for handed in a one-liner with the comment that his submission was the shortest.
The idiot forgot to add imports for the functions he used, so the code didn't even compile.
Safe to say he didn't get high marks for that. -
Customer wants a place to list his products he sells through other sites. He doesn’t have much money, but he’s a referral from a reliable customer, so we arrange a payment plan. We agree on the details, including a place to post his wares.
Then he tells me he wants to post a few thousand items at a time. I decide to throw in a loading system I built for a previous project.
Then he can’t figure out how to add images. Add a way for him to upload them all as a single zip; no good.
Long story short, let myself get conned into developing a full-on Amazon import system that auto-detects several categories automatically AND imports the images. For no additional cost because I felt bad asking for more and we were working through a language barrier.
Third installment payment never comes.
Lesson learned.3 -
the more i learn about web dev, the more i realise the reason for its mess up . There are 2 major problems in it : the people who create various important concepts and tools for web dev were 1) working on it without any collaboration and agreements on the philosophy and 2) were too stubborn on their ideology i guess.
There is no limitation to anything's functionalities, and the limits that are "defined" are badshit crazy. for eg:
====================================
HTML creator : "I am gonna make a language that would provide a skeleton to web page. it will just have the text and basic markers to let the scripting and styling engines/languages know which text is supposed to be rendered and how.
It won't provide any click or loading functionality.
someone: "So i guess opening a page or loading an image would be handled by JS or other programming language? also, bold , italic or division would be added via CSS?"
HTMLguy : Nah, my html engine would ALSO do that.
someone : what , why? won't that just be stupid and against your philosophy?
HTMLguy : WHAT? am too awesome, can't hear you
w3c , 50 yrs later : sorry can't change this, gotta support the 50 yrs of web dev and billion sites
=================================
CSS guy: I am gonna make the world's best beautifying stylesheet language to provide colors, styling, fonts and backgrounds to a page. every loadings and clicks would be handled somewhere else
Some1: cool, then clicks, hover and running of animation would be handled by JS only
CSSguy :Umm, i guess i could handle those.
Some1 wha-?
CSSguy : Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou for the nobel price!
====================================
JS guy : I am gonna make a god web programming language! It can do everything: add/remove html tags, add styling, control animations, control browser, handle clicks , perform operations, everything!
some1: cool! you must be making very large programming language with lots of modules.
JS guy: No! i am gonna keep it small. no built in classes and file imports! just use the functions directly. if someone wants the additional lib functionality, install them on your server
some1 : innovative! what's typeof NaN ?
JSguy :shut up.6 -

Html imports. Polyfil. Hey. Reading, this is awesome. <link rel=“import” href=“control.html”> what could be simpler? Deprecated front end. But only need it for developing. Will combine the files at the end.
Estimate converting php to pure html, couple of days.
Go to use it with polyfill (webcompnents.js htmlimport). Doesn’t work.
Try the light components. Doesn’t work.
Try server-side polymer. Doesn’t work.
So much documentation about it working. Then finally come across shadow dom and how html imports are associated with them.
Hell no they aren’t. They are completely different things. Oh. Google packaged them together? No one could agree on shadow dom, and its now going away? Taking the pure html way of combining files into one page with it???
Spent an entire freaking day. But got 8 lines of code and <link rel=“fetch” ...> to do the same thing.
Why hasn’t this been an html standard for say...years. Why can’t the server do a handshake with the client and serve one page (php-ish) if the feature isn’t supported. Otherwise multiple files asyc. I mean. This is a fundamental part of pwa’s.
Why are these obviously smart people so stupid??? Deploy you shitty shadow dom without this obviously useful feature...2 -
Finally figured out why my team’s lab project was taking so long to compile. Named imports of material-ui icons. Lesson learned!2

Why in the fuck are twilios typings so spread out and tucked away in a hundred folders? I have 8 separate imports to deeply nested directories (whose path includes fucking api version numbers) and at the end of each path are generic garbage interfaces. Autocomplete suggestions show handfuls of identical interfaces and types, and autosuggest for import paths is cut off because the paths are too long. To make it worse, they’re cut off at exactly the name of the directory for the actual resource I’m trying to get types for. It shouldn’t be this fucking hard, twilio.2

Some facepalm things I've discovered recently:
- Node's require("http") doesn't work for https - you have to require("https") specifically.
- Mongofiles (command line utility for Mongo, imports files as GridFS) cannot input more than one file at a time. Regex doesn't work. [Ended up making a puny Powershell script to do it].
- Airtable doesn't let you download your attachments, even if you export a csv - it's just a url to the image on their cloud.
It's been an exhausting day.1 -

markdown is not good enough! the tools aren't there for non-devs and there's no concordance on moving forward *compatibly* for anything other than headers and __possibly__ lists.
md has been around for years and still no consensus on comments, meta data, css, data imports, etc.
i could never in good faith recommend to a non-dev to use markdown, even though every academic and professional writer from legal to journalism should exclusively be using markdown to write and store their documents. the data portability and ease of search, retrieval, collection, distribution, etc of markdown compared to pdf or docx is enormous. markdown is the hex format of text, the perfect layer of data and visual so that the user and the computer can both operate on text as blocks of data rather than weirdly styled paragraphs that need to be reformatted BY HAND for citation-style or journal format, or paper size. FOR EACH SUBMISSION. Academics literally rewrite their 100-page papers to accommodate up to 10 different submission requirements.
They could be clicking MLA vs Chicago and/or using a journal's stylesheet to recompile for its styles.
Today there is some support from zotero et al to take away some of the pain, but it makes ZERO SENSE for writers to have to keep and store and keep up to date, multiple versions of the same document. Git pull does not exist for them. But the worst part is that git isnt the solution to their problem. They need a compiler more than they need version control. But they also desperately need vcs. They ALL literally have a million files named "dumdum.dumFINAL-3084_lastversion \2020, this one.dum".
They dont have git or anything like it, because they need a line-by-line solution like markdown for git to become effective.
All of writing is basically mired in the fact that people cant even roll up their paragraphs and see what the fuck it is theyre saying. Most writing reads like a long scroll through some nonsense that goes nowhere. Like this rant. but the point is that markdown and line-by line editing actually produces more logically sound writing. You start to think in terms of defining ideas in blocks, ... like code.9 -

Over the past five years in the company I work, I've seen profits drop and headcounts drop. I must say there's no particular reason for it other than globalisation. Yet I see that the number of high-end European imports in parking lot has jumped by 10-12 at least.

Scala. The compiler is slow; sbt is buggy; too much syntactic sugar; implicits; cryptic; unreadable; and my biggest issue, symbols are reused and their use changes depending on how they are used, let's look at _:
As an existential type, as higher kind type parameter, as ignored variables, as ignored parameters, as ignored names of self types, as wildcard patterns, as wildcard imports, as hiding imports, for joining letters to punctuation, as assignment operators, as placeholder syntax, in partially applied functions, when converting call-by-name parameters to functions. -

-
When you commit "removed unused imports" because you have no idea what you did.
and then you actually find a unused import... Better commit again!2 -
Context:
I recently joined a team and we are working on a fairly large mobile app using RN, they started a month ago. And I noticed, they don't have any fucking tests and static typings like Typescript.
I have this pretentious team leader that acts like he's the BeSt dEveLopEr in ThE woRld, and act like he always know what he's doing. But in reality, he code like crap, the formatting is shit because the ESLint config is not working, he's not even aware of it until I've fixed it. He's using every BAD Practice available, unused variables and imports are scattered everywhere, etc. And the directory structure is crap and no consistency.
How can I convince this ignorant mofo to use tests and typescript? He believes that adding those will take us longer and cost more money to the client, based on my experience, this is not the case, it's only slow on the first 2 weeks and it is worth it in the long run.13 -

A colleague changes the location of a test helper file imported in a bunch of tests. Doesn’t bother to check where that file is imported (except where he’s specifically using it himself).
As a result good dozen tests fail later on. The culprit doesn’t realize. And the rest of us have no clue why.
Multiple people are asked to look into why the tests are failing.
"Ok, who’s working on what?
We’ll create a shared document to track who’s working on what test."
Document is created, people get assigned.
"Hold on, looks like it’s just a faulty import." "Oh yeah same here." "Yeah for me as well."
"Ok we could simply appoint one person to fix all the imports."
"Well I’ve already gone ahead and opened a pull request to fix the test I was appointed to."
"Ah ok, well who can take care of the rest?"
"Wait I also opened a PR."
"Ok so I guess we can each open a PR?" "No we can just have a single branch we can all push to".
"Sure, who’s branch are we using"
"You can use the branch of my PR"
"Guys let me handle this, it’s ridiculous for us to all be doing this separately."
"You’re right, go ahead".

The culprit? A senior dev.
What would have literally taken a minute to do (or even no time at all with proper use of the IDE) turned into hours of wasted time. People getting interrupted, having to drop what they were doing to fix the consequences of this guy’s laziness (seriously don’t know what else to call it).

I hate Intellij Idea but it's best option available to develop in Scala. Improvements in VSCode/Metals is my last hope.
The (few) things I NEED from Intellij:
* Very good autocompletion
* Refactoring tools (renaming, auto imports)
* Search tools (find usages, sub/super-types)
The (many) things I hate of Intellij:
* Layout with panel sizes doesn't behave properly and it scales instead of remaining fixed.
* Tedious 2-hands shortcuts makes the right hand to move a lot from the mouse
* Delays and lag in the UI, freezes on garbage collection
* High memory consumption, high CPU usage and generally slow and cumbersome
* The delay in the UI between commands is so that it's accidentally possible to introduce typos
* Can't move tabs around and organize them as I like
* Ugly font rendering and missing typography settings
* Multi-caret implementation as a different editing mode is annoying because requires frequent switching
* Unnatural code folding regions, why method arguments are not folded with the method?
* Unhelpful support forum, sometimes dismissive answers
* Highlighting of current word under the caret doesn't work
* Very slow editor, can't keep spacebar pressed to move text or it hangs!
* Several settings reset at every update. Like the auto fetch of git
* New features are added and enabled by default which is very invasive
* Some of the features mentioned above are really annoying and it's not possible/not trivial to disable them
* It uses its own compile and several times it highlights false positives7 -
Doing someone else's Code Review in my project: "You must retain the holiness and piety of the code you write by following PascalCase naming for files and kebab-case naming for CSS variables. Avoid using duplicate strings by declaring enums in a constants.ts file and using that all throughout the app"
During my own Code Review in someone else's project: "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN I CANNOT PASS FUNCTION REFERENCES AS PROPS TO A REACT COMPONENT AND ALWAYS NEED TO INVOKE IT INSIDE AN INLINE FUNCTION FOR THE PROP."
"WHAT KINDA FKIN DRUGS ARE YOU ON TO USE snake_case IN TYPESCRIPT DID YOUR MOM DROP YOU ON YOUR HEAD WHEN YOU WERE BORN YOU SACRILEGIOUS PIECE OF SHIT"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I SHOULD USE BOTH SINGLE AND DOUBLE QUOTES FOR IMPORTS AS PER LOCAL OR GLOBAL; I'LL SHOVE THE SINGLE QUOTE UP YOU WHERE THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE YOU FKIN DEGENERATE MORON"
As much as I do believe in self righteousness of my own coding conventions over others (I might be slightly better than others but I really can't claim good authority because I've had my lapses in conventions too; and being one of the newer members of the team certainly doesn't help, despite my boss supporting my initiative), I guess it is high time we bring in some already established code conventions in the team that is finally big enough to warrant them. Maybe AirBnB. -
So, I have updated tslint and now I have close to a hundred warnings related to order of imports. 😔
I tried several tools for imports sorting, but none outputs it in a way tslint expects it to be. 😒
God damn it, I have to sort it all manually. 😩2 -
Client´s software exports files that have .txt-extension. IN ALL CAPS. And all the other crap concerning their imports/exports, not even going there. I want someone to be held responsible.
Well, this day and then 2 week vacation! -
I have a JS module in the main thread, which can only import regular JS files using dynamic import(). This means that imported functions can never be global.
I also have a web worker (which isn't a module because Mozilla) which can only import other JS files using importScripts(). This means that imported functions can only ever be global.
Effectively I can't use the same code on the main thread and in a worker if it relies on objects defined in other files, because references to these will never be the same. -

Spent most of the day at work debugging a script which imports client data from their old system into our system. Someone made a change to a for loop which was looping through a period length by days, doing whatever it needed to do for each day. Unfortunately they changed the increment value from 1 day to 86400 days... probably thinking they were dealing with seconds not days. A day well spent.1

You're kidding. You know how React, GraphQl, and Jest are made by facebook. You would think that Jest then would be framework of choice for mocking gql queries and responses for a React app. And you would be wrong. You "can, but-", depending on your implementation - ours being based on official sources - not without contorting and duplicating everything related to the query implementation at which you are barely even testing the app itself. We're using named imports from .gql files, for those familiar.
Don't you hate it when it turns out the guy going "nah tests were too hard, we didn't bother" was right.3 -

New ERP project has been going for 1.5 years. Project team comes to me asking to create an import process from old ERP to new ERP in 4 months, oh we need data loaded into Test today so we can complete end-to-end user testing. Project team doesn't have any requirements documented or know what data is needed in new ERP. I have never used/seen either ERP system. Project team keeps changing what is required in the new ERP weekly, and they don't understand why all the imports into new ERP are bad.

Me to team: eslint-plugin-import is tripling the time it takes to lint our project (literally adding minutes to the linting process). Do we really need it?
Boss: what does it do?
Me: ensures import paths are correct; reorders imports; ...
Teammate: imports should NEVER be reordered!
*cue debate about reordering imports that is still raging - my question is never answered*5 -

I have no one to argue about this with, I'm the only developer in my place of work, but I can say that the arrangement of the import statements sucks my nuts no PR is accepted just because they want to see first inbuild imports, then third party, then imports from current projects, why why why!!! that doesn't harm anyone in the world!!!! but just my time!!!3

Filthy Pollo: import {globalStore} from '../main.js'
Filthy Pollo: is that unstandard javascript?
Filthy Pollo: it makes me think it's from webpack
Filthy Pollo: unforgiving...
Ron Chi: i wont answer these questions again
Ron Chi: i already told u chrome supports imports its been a few months
Ron Chi: modules are evaled once, so if u have some state living in ur module if u reimport it ull just get that same state
Ron Chi: myModule.js - const myShit = { 'a': 'eh?' }; export { myShit };
Filthy Pollo: https://i.imgur.com/1X4Taik.png
Filthy Pollo: gg
Ron Chi: index.js - import { myShit } from './myModule.js'
Filthy Pollo: import and export are unexcepted token
Ron Chi: import needs to be used at the top of a file, before any other code
Filthy Pollo: https://i.imgur.com/myrrIMx.png
Filthy Pollo: Im going to assume import and export aren't supported in the browser
Ron Chi: because ur squigly line in ur editor?
Filthy Pollo: This feature is only implemented natively in Safari and Chrome at this time. It is implemented in many transpilers, such as the Traceur Compiler, Babel or Rollup.
Ron Chi: https://github.com/paulirish/...
Ron Chi: actually i dont think its handled properly by babel, webpack handles it
Filthy Pollo: what the fuck why use import and export that wont work in other browsers like firefox, edge, etc. ?
Ron Chi: because other browsers are slow
Ron Chi: its still standard
Filthy Pollo: your answer is not really professional
Ron Chi: ?
Ron Chi: why because its my fault that other browsers are still working on it
Ron Chi: they fought over implementation details forever, than it has to be implemented properly before shipping it
Filthy Pollo: Im blaming the people who are still using export and import in the browsers
Ron Chi: u wont be using modules without transpiling without some limited market for a couple years, otherwise ull still be using rollup / system.js / webpack
Filthy Pollo: obviously webpack
Ron Chi: thats up to you, it seems the google ppl use rollup
Ron Chi: but most of the community chose webpack
Ron Chi: angular 2 uses system.js internally i think
Filthy Pollo: Firefox 54 – behind the dom.moduleScripts.enabled setting in about:config.
Edge 15 – behind the Experimental JavaScript Features setting in about:flags.
Filthy Pollo: nobody wants to be bothered to change settings in flags
Filthy Pollo: the developers who use experimental features are weirdos as hell
Filthy Pollo: the joke is when they use experimental feature for production and force them to download chrome
Filthy Pollo: Monopoly as hell

Was using an open source piece of software for data storage and visualisation to work with the loggers my company makes. When importing old data for historical views, some of the csv imports would fail without any specific error messages.
It took me a couple of hours but after looking at their csv parser and making my own little one to test with, I eventually found out that it was all down to the way datatime (I think it was?) in java deals with DST, which apparently was to just fuck shit up.
Anyhow, a few simple lines added into the parser later and it all works just fine.
Was super proud of that one as it was the first time I actually looked somewhat good in front of my senior dev. -

Have you EVER written a SINGLE Jest test that didn't have some sort of bullshit spewing stuff like this:
"ReferenceError: You are trying to `import` a file after the Jest environment has been torn down."
"Warning: React.createElement: type is invalid -- expected a string (for built-in components) or a class/function (for composite components) but got: object. You likely forgot to export your component from the file it's defined in, or you might have mixed up default and named imports."
and yet running on a device, features work flawlessly and quite well, no errors or even warnings in sight logged
This is the most fragile pile of garbage I have ever seen.
I hate this.
inb4 your stupid ass todo boilerplate garbage you wrote tests for in freshman year. i'm talking about a REAL app with HUNDREDS of components.

Hello devrant,
Need guidance about QR code based coupon system.
In my restaurant I sale few food items. My 50+ customer bought food daily (on delivery). They are asking me for coupon system like I sale one sandwich for half 30 INR , they bought 3-4 per day.
So they can buy coupon of 100 sandwich on every delivery my delivery boy will scan QR code of customer and their sandwich count will decrease accordingly.
This will apply for every food item.
Can you suggest me current software for this.1 -
Code review time.
"How come this line has been removed? PEP 8 likes to have two lines between imports and the first bit of code"
What I replied: Thanks. I'll put it back.
What I wanted to reply: Go fuck yourself you anal moron, who the fuck gives a shit about bollocks like that. We got fucking proper work to do, so get the fuck over yourself, let the fucking PEP shit lie, and make some fucking USEFUL comments.5 -
I had a branch <refactor> where I changed the structure of some folders (and did appropriate changes in imports) for organization of the feature I'm developing; I then merged <refactor> into <feature> and created a PR from <feature> into develop. I let the PR be known in Slack.
Yet nobody reviewed the PR.
Whatever. I created <new-feature> from <feature> locally, and started working on it. Then I merged <new-feature> into <feature>, and pushed it into its remote counterpart... well, only now have I realized I haven't merged the remote <feature> into develop. Now I have a PR in which the documentation doesn't tell all the changes anymore. Because nobody reviewed it before and I couldn't merge it. Now instead of keeping on working I gotta come here to vent my frustration before I can do anything.1 -
As hard as I fucking try, my stumbling block, every fucking time is exports/imports. I can't wrap my head around them, at all.
What do you use in browser vs in node?
Whats the *most commonly used standard*?
Whats the difference between "modules.export = Foo;"
vs "exports.Foo = Foo;"
what about
export class Foo? Is that the same as modules.export or export.Foo?
Look at this shit...
import FooComponent from "./Foo";
export default Foo
const Foo = require("./foo")
const Foo = require("./foo.js").Foo
import { Foo } from "./Foo.js";
And probably a dozen others I don't know about.
Why does there have to be so many fucking ways to do a fucking import/export?
What the fuck is going on here?8 -
In the last days, my developer was working with different kinds of databases.
He uses a database, named TimeScale DB (Timescale). This is the plugin of a famous SQL database PostgreSQL.
He imports the same data in PostgreSQL and timescale DB.
Size in Timescale DB is = 24KB
Size in Simple PostgreSQL = 166MB
This is the record of 1000000 rows, 12 columns.
Data fetching is the same on both databases, But if we fetch time-based data, (e.g 2 days, 24 hours, From Date to Date) we have a 50% to 200% difference depending on the query. python3 & elixir is also working fine with DB.
Results are also nearly the same with InfluxDB.
For a specific use-case, we have software that is handling Simple and time-series data at the same time. If anyone wants to suggest something new, Also tell us. -

Stupid licensing issue.
I have a licensing question/problem.
I'm porting Lemonbar (the fancy GNU/Linux X11 statusbar) to D (which is awesome imo).
I'm adding Wayland functionality and since D is part of the C syntax family some code is just about exactly the same (the XCB libs are protocol-generated external imports).
Also, the X-specific parts are in a specific file.
What do I license the project against? My own license (I prefer Apache) or Lemonbar's? What about the X-specific file?
BTW, it's a full rewrite using the same concepts, object-orienting the whole thing.2 -

when it takes more effort to writing a bunch of dumbass mocks and stubs so you can have an automated test, than it does to manually test, because you're too retarded to figure out how the fuck easymock is supposed to work, and being awful at your job, also fuck java imports and easymock for being difficult to work with

Which Idea was it to combine C, C++ and Java in one big fucking Project. And who thought that it was a Good Idea to use Eclipse C++ for developing with Java. If the whole Project would have been in Java I could have used the auto Import feature from Eclipse, but if Eclipse doesn't Know that the Java Files are Java Files it doesn't fucking work. So I just had to spent a whole fucking Day compiling the Projects with Maven so that I can write around 100 Lines of Import...
And the best Thing is, a few Weeks ago the Imports existed so a fucking asshole just erased them when he tried to optimize these...
Sometimes I hate this company -

Fuck JS. I want to import file and it just gives errors. In PHP for few years it never happens. You check if namespace is correct it always imports without problems. Fuck you JS creators. It asks to install a library, but I am not fucking importing a library. I am just importing my own created simple file. Fuck you.

Working on a portfolio project - I ran some tests, everything is all good - 100% passing. Computer freezes - pop_os has been giving me shit lately, so I have to restart. Fine.
I get back into code, i re-run pytest - nothing works. Python apparently can't find my modules anymore. I try a few things, nothing. Why? Who the fuck knows - "oh you need this conftest file", "oh you need to remove __init__ from this directory or that one", "oh it's a pytest version iss---" no, no, no - listen here you little shit, it was working two seconds ago. Tell me why and how software I wrote with the most basic ass package structure - literally TWO directories suddenly has no fucking clue how to import the modules. hmm? Even from within the app directory, app.server now no longer recognizes imports from app.main or app.database.
ALL of this worked. It works in new directories without dedicated venvs - it works in new directories with my global python install - it works with any one of my conda envs - it works on other computers - WHY doesn't it work in THIS directory all of a sudden?? Ugh.
What's terrible is that relative imports will probably solve it within the app dir, but the tests dir won't accept them. Moreover, vs code autocompletion can find all the modules, but python itself cannot. Fucking infuriating shit like this is.1 -
is there an algorithm that can spot similarities between two linked lists on the virtue of what an element is linked to? I'm working with my bank statements in CSV and want to work with them mechanically, and I don't really want to spend time checking manually what I have imported (to Wallet by Budget Bakers) and what I'm missing between imports7

The other day i made a rant saying that having an index.js as entry point is misleading, in my opinion. it could have been implemented in so many and better ways but that's what we have because that's what the nodejs creator decided to do.
My previous rant wasn't well seen because everybody was saying that index js it's actually a good thing.
So I started to do some research because I've an important experience in software architecture and i was trying to understand why people couldn't get my point. Fortunately i found that even the creator of node itself regrets his choice to use a file as an entry point for modules and imports. You can have a look at the video, that is also really interesting, here: https://youtu.be/M3BM9TB-8yA2 -
I know the video editing software LightWorks has its aficionados. I can see how it's powerful. I've been using it since at least version 12. But my gosh how it screws people over. In the latest version, when you import files into a project and then want to delete _just the reference_ to the files in the project, LightWorks says "Nope, imma delete the FILE, too!" So you can never just start over with an import. When you import a bunch of still photos in one shot, no matter how many, it imports them all as an unwatchably fast 1 second video sequence instead of as an individual file. Like...what? And they've dumbed down the interface so much that there's no toolbar. You have to right-click poke at everything to try to find where stuff is. And right clicking is NON-EXISTENT on a Mac. I had to use a pen tablet to achieve it. I'm too cheap to buy Adobe Premiere for the few times I have to edit video in a year, so I guess it's just ShotCut on Windows for the rest of my life.2

The tokenization of Orchid files depends on the exports of imported files, but in a way that never influences their exports or imports, so Orchid allows circular references.
I sometimes feel like my subconscious and conscious mind use the scope of my projects to annoy each other.2 -
To hell with this auto path rewrite VS Code, when I rename a file you find all files and rewrite the imports, but now you did it wrong
and I have a huge mess to pick, I have no idea how you did this but you wrote long paths which don't make sense
why did you put node_modules in-front of all my imports when I moved a folder which has nothing to do with node modules1 -
Can anyone suggest a good opensource or free app for dependency mapping?
I have a large monolithic django application with lot of apps and I want to study each app's imports and dependency. This also can help me remove cyclic dependencies.8 -
I want to ask for your opinion guys, because I don't know if I am right or wrong.
So, some days ago, my brother sent me some code to check out for an automation that he does for testing purposes, since he's a QA (I am a programmer). He should be able to send XML data to a server and depending on the process that he tests, the data is different every time. I saw a strange thing, he hardcodes the XML tags and concatenates them with data which I find stupid. So I proposed him to use a template to generate XML data, because I think it's more flexible and easier, making data and presentation separate. That way if in the future he wants to start using JSON he could do it in no time. I made the code in a separate file which he imports and uses it's functions (they are two so no need for classes) and uses them to load the template and render it as he passes the data as a hash table. He insists that concatenating data and XML tags is easier and simpler and I can't wrap my mind how could that be true. I gave him an example in which the data structure for a process is changed and he have to open the file and change the XML tags or the structure and he still says that's simpler.
What is the right decision in this situation. Keep in mind that I simplified the process a lot and it actually involves sending the data and reporting the results, but they are not important here since I am talking only about generating data. -
