today i was asked to encrypt a public key, because "it's sensitive info".
a PUBLIC key.
smh
it's not even hard (literally 1 line of code), but come on...6 -
So yesterday I had to travel to a different city, which is around 200km to get to (~125 miles), to get my dad to a hospital.
While waiting for him to get processed I did some coding and everything went smooth.
When I came back home, even though my credentials were valid and all, Cognito decided that I'm attempting an "account takeover" and denied my login.
Truly a time to be alive.
Oh, and fuck you Cognito :)4 -
Cognito is the dumbest piece of crap ever known to man. Markets itself as a great & easy auth solution to dumbass CTOs who then force the devs to implement it.
I spent a week or so trying to figure out why my token expires immediately after logging in only to find out that they issued me a token that is already revoked.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK COGNITO???? -
how to be a shitty client:
- have a legacy database where column names are misspelled and everything is nullable
- hire external help which instead of helping break the ui (bonus points for breaking the api too)
- demand a very much custom auth logic but decide to use aws cognito for shits and giggles
- demand 1hr daily meetings
- demand biometric auth with 0 knowledge of how biometric auth works (the previous devs just had a face id prompt which does nothing and retrieved email and password saved on the device???)
- message me at 2am because you don't understand how timezones work + demand a build while you're at it
- call me a "heretical pagan" because i took a day off on a holiday you don't celebrate (???)
i could go on but i think this is enough11 -
client cto: "SOMEBODY COMPROMISED YOUR KEY!!!! IT SHOWS SOMEBODY LOGGED IN TO DEVOPS GUY'S ACCOUNT USING KALI LINUX!!!!! HERE ARE THE LOGS!!!!"
the logs: *show an ip address*
the ip address: *ip address of the office*
devops guy: *actually uses kali linux*
not really a rant, just found it funny2 -
me 2 weeks ago: "can we talk about the release?"
pm: *proceeds to circlejerk about story points for an hour every day*
pm today: "why is our release late?"
dear management, go fuck yourselves. seriously, go fuck yourselves7 -
My lovely team and I inherited a legacy app written in Angular 14.
We love it when we get fucked by Pajeets like this.
We love tons of `any`-s in the codebase.
We love unreadable code with 5 levels of nested ternary operators.
We love the lack of a README on how to actually build/start the app.
We love the outdated dependencies.
And we absolutely love it when you use a paid package that costs $1755.4 -
A project manager broke down and started crying because she was told there’d be an onboarding meeting with the client. Another guy had to step in, because she didn’t stop crying.
Is this real life?21 -
Fuck you and your bullshit Teams meetings.
I hope you die a painful and slow death while your servers burst in flames and you hang yourselves.
You schedule 4 of them, then bitch about how developers aren’t getting any work done.
Maybe if you didn’t suffocate them with your bullshit meetings they would.
I am looking forward for the contract to expire or in this project so I can finally get some peace.
Fuck your stupid meetings. You deserve to be arrested and shot by the Gestapo (or KGB, whichever you find more evil).16 -
Why do people have to lie? I am seriously getting tired of it.
Context: While I was on vacation the company hired some guy we’ll call Bob.
Bob is a senior with 10+ years of experience. 5 of those years in React (supposedly).
I got back from vacation and was told I’d be working on a project with Bob.
I’ve worked in teams before so I thought no problem.
Now I am aware that different people have different styles, so that’s why we agreed on a lint config with some fancy git hooks.
I was excited at first because the project actually seems nice, but my excitement soon turned into terror.
First of all, Bob doesn’t seem to understand Git…fair enough, I’ll give him a quick guide…
Mf calls me at 11pm on a Friday because he can’t push because the tests are failling.
Now tests. Bob doesn’t write those. Great.
We had created a few components to use throughout the project.
Bob seems to consistently forget what components are and why you write them and just imports the defaults from the UI library we’re using.
Bob also has a kink for hardcoding values for some reason.
I talked to Bob multiple times about this and he just tells me he’ll change it but in the end the PR stays open for 5 days, before it’s actually me who goes in and fixes it. Oh and yeah this shit keeps happening over and over again.
Now I know some of us devs hate meetings but for the love of God Bob just show up. You don’t even have to speak. Or at least answer a message that corresponds to the working hours and not in the middle of the night.
I am getting tired of this behavior and am seriously holding back from reporting this to the management. It’s been a month and I am seriously worried about the project. I have my own stuff to do but it takes time for me to clean up his absolute mess that doesn’t even pass the CI.
Call me an asshole I don’t care. It’s been a month and I’m legit worried about the future of the project.20
