That is not professional AT ALL. I dont give a shit about the fact he cant get no bitches so hes begging me as if im some kind of a pimp. On upwork?? Gtfo.
Now i understand why companies want to hire only people with college DEGREES because they have went through the process of conforming and dont ask stupid shit questions. Eliminates a lot of bullshit and Neanderthals like this guy

Client: Hi there, we worked together I few months ago and loved what you created for us! We have another job and would like to see if you are available?
Me (1h later): Sure! Let me know more details about this new project.
Client (15min later): Oh, sorry, since you took so long to respond, we've decided to choose another freelancer. Thank you anyways!!

Twat Client,
As per our conversation, here is an invoice for the work you requested on behalf of U.S. Bloom. I realize that you ended up going with another designer, but you did request samples of what my take on the logo design would be. The following line item is indicative of 1 hour of graphic design consultation as per your request via Skype.
As I recall, you mentioned that this is not how Upwork "works" but considering it was you who requested that I converse with you via Skype instead of via the Upwork messenger, and since there were no clear instructions on how to proceed with Upwork after our initial consultation, It is assumed that you were foregoing Upwork altogether to work with me directly, thus the invoice from me directly for my time involved in the project. I would have reached out to you via Skype, but it seems that you may have severed our connection there.
After spending a little time researching your company, I could not find current information for Basic Media Marketing, but I was able to reach out to your former partner Not A. Twat, who was more than helpful and suggested that he would encourage you to pay for the services rendered.
It is discouraging that you asked for my help and I delivered, but when I ask for compensation in return for my skills, you refused to pay and have now taken your site offline and removed me as a contact from Skype.
{[CLIENT of CLIENT]},
I am sorry that I have bothered you with this email. I copied you on it merely for transparency's sake. I am sure that your logo is great and I am sure whatever decision was made is awesome for your decision. I just wanted to make sure that you weren't getting "samples" of other people's work passed off as original work by Twat Media Marketing.
I can't speak for any of the other candidates, but since Twat asked me to conduct work with him via Skype rather than through Upwork, and since he's pretty much a ghost online now, (Site Offline, LinkedIn Removed or Blocked, and now Skype blocked as well) one has to think this was a hit and run to either crowdsource your logo inexpensively or pass off other artist's work as his own. That may not be the case, but from my perspective all signs are pointing to that scenario.
Here is a transcript. Some of his messages have been redacted.
As you can clearly see, requests and edits to the logo were being made from Jon to me, but he thinks it's a joke when I ask about invoicing and tries to pass it off as an interview. Do you see any interview questions in there? There were no questions about how long I have been designing, what are my rates, who have I done work for in the past, or examples of my previous work. There were none because he didn't need them at this point.
He'd already seen my proposal and my Behance.net portfolio as well as my rates on Upwork.com. This was a cut to the chase request for my ideas for your logo. It was not just ideas, but mock designs with criticism and approval awaiting. Not only that, but I only asked for an hour of compensation. After looking at the timestamps on our conversation, you can clearly see that I spent at least 3 hours corresponding with Twat on this project. That's three hours of work I could have spent on an honest paying customer.
I trust that TWATCLIENT will do the right thing. I just wanted you guys to know that I was in it to do the best design I could for you. I didn't know I was in it to waste three hours of my life in an "interview" I wasn't aware I was participating in.
Reply from ClientClient:
Hello Sir,
This message is very confusing?
We do not owe your company any money and have never worked with you before.
Therefore, I am going to disregard that invoice.
Reply from TWATCLIENT's boss via phone:
I have two problems with this. One I don't think your business practices are ethical, especially calling MY client directly and sending them an invoice.
Two why didn't you call or email Jon before copying my client on the email invoice?
Me: Probably because he's purposely avoiding me and I had no way to find him. I only got his email address today and that was from a WHOIS lookup.
Really, you don't think my business practices are ethical? What about slavery? Is that ethical? Is it ethical to pass of my designs to your client for critique, but not pay me for doing them?
... I'LL HAVE TO CALL YOU BACK!
My email follow up:

I got paid. The power of CCing the right combination of people is greater than most things on Earth.14 -
Just saw an upwork offer.
The client wants the dev to put all pages into one page.
"That sounds easy" I thought.
But it turns out that the total amount of pages to put into a single page is 904625697166532776746648320380374280100293470930272690489102837043110636675.
HOLY CRAP! EVEN IF I PUT THAT MASSIVE BLOCK INTO A SINGLE PAGE, YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN IT! THERE IS NO SUCH POWERFUL MACHINE OR EVEN A SOFTWARE THAT CAN MANAGE TO OPEN IT!14 -

So, my UpWork account request is rejected, with a reason that
"already many freelancers with a similar skillset to yours".
In skills I entered
"AngularJS, ASP.NET MVC, .NET Framework, C#, jQuery, Semantic UI, Bootstrap"
Then I resubmitted the request with by adding blockchain and Ethereum.
Again rejected.
What should I do 😫
I guess I never can start freelancing.21 -
If the requirements are this stringent in the job posting, I can't imagine how terrible it would be to work for this person.9

Upwork Job post:
I want a small website where you can post product images with title, price and descriptions. It should have a search functionality like amazon. The users must be able to add products it in their cart, post reviews and buy from there. I want it to integrate with PayPal and other payment methods. And yes, i want to be able to write blog post too.
Budget; $50

Ugh. Trying to signup for UpWork and they need a professional picture of my face. I don't have a professional picture of anything, let alone my face. Ugh.3

Just saw an upwork job post that said
"Apply if you're looking to build your profile and gain experience and not work for money"6 -
just got paid for my first upwork task. feels really good. some clients are absolutely amazing! ^_^8

Upwork is absolute GARBAGE.
PLEASE tell me alternative to find a job as a dev and work remotely. I have to work for foreign international software company.
I cant be working for my local city companies because the salary even for engineers is TRASH2 -
There was this motherfucker searching a dev to build a vue component on freelancer.
I applied. 🙄
Then he started to ask me out about Upwork. How he wants to use my account through TeamViewer. And how he will pay me for this monthly.
Why am I magnetic to idiots and scammers? Can some one please Avada Kedavra all idiots? I will pay you monthly. I swear.3 -
So just got email from my potential investors - saying they are not interested. This is my second major failure this year.... I spent my every dim on developing the prototype.
Now I am dead broke and unemployed.
I have sent 10 job applications - gotten no reply.
Open Freelancer account (fiveer, upwork, guru).
Yet no gig.
I am slowly going into depression.
Please can someone help me and give me a damn gig or job.
I still believe in my entrepreneurship pursuit but right now, with zero money to do anything, I just want a job damn.6 -
How in the fuck do you start getting clients as a freelancer? Do I just throw stuff on my GitHub and pray someone hits me up on Fiverr? Upwork won't accept my account and it's been fucking four months of me trying. I took to becoming a full-time designer to push our startup's products to completion but a fucking failure over there too everytime.
Everything is a fucking shitfest and I'm just whining at this point but I needed to take this off of my fucking chest. A good fucking day to you too.8 -
I work 3 PM to 1 AM as a daily office job. Then go home and try to learn programming. Wake up next day at 8:30 AM for kind of another work until 1PM. Doesn't pay as much but I have to try. Then if I get free time do some freelance on UPWORK with whatever little graphic designing I know to help pay the bills.
And the fact that even my laptop is dying is a huge blow. Don't know when it might give up. Has 1st gen core i5 dual core, takes ages to load Adobe softwares. I have wanted to hulksmash this shit, but can't.
If I'm lucky, I get a stress free 6 hours of sleep a few days a month. And my depression doesn't help. More sleep should ease me a little, but I can't afford to waste any time. But this is life, isn't it.3 -
Today, a guy contacted me on upwork to fix his iOS game which was crashing.
So I asked him to put it on github so I can clone it and push the fixes.
For some reason he said it was not possible for him to put it on github,so he uploaded it on Dropbox and sent me the link.
How the fuck am I supposed to fix that 700mb project and send it back ? Again upload it on some cloud ?
AaaaGhhhh !!!!3 -
Some prankster on upwork is trying to swindle me out of paying me because they didn't "hire" me through upwork even though he asked me to send an "example" of my rendition of what I would do for their logo. Once they told me they went with someone else even after performing the requested "example," I promptly asked who to invoice. "They're going to go talk to the boss and see what they can work out."1

Hi, I'm a 17 years old web developer (still in school, not from the us), is there any way that a guy like me will be able to find a job to start gain experience? I searched all over the internet, in upwork no one answer me when I try to contact them and the other all wants 1 or 2 years of experience or a degree...15

!rant
TL;DR one year on as a react dev, I want to go at it self employed, humbly seeking advice as this community seems to have its fair share of knowledgeable freelancers.
I have 1 year professional experience now as a Meteor, React and Apollo developer
The dream is to become self employed. I figure a good market would be small businesses that want a website that are more featureful than a diy wix site.
Only I am more of a developer than a designer, so rely heavily on things like Bootstrap or Material ui. So I wonder if Upwork, Fiverr or simply my own freelance website would be better.
As you guessed javascript is my biggest strength, not sure if nodejs is the best backend for small businesses as hosting prices are more than eqv php stack.
Also want to build own projects on the side to monetize. Bigger dream would be to be client-less and develop and sell personal projects.
Seeking advice from those who are self employed. Am I dreaming too big?
Shall I keep the office job for a bit longer then take the plunge? Or do you think I can just go for it. Are there lucrative areas I am missing?
Thanks in advanced8 -
I'm so done with indeed and jobstreet. I couldn't find an office job that I passionately love. Most are looking for PHP devs, ASP.NET devs, Java devs or effing fresh graduates with 5 years of experience. I guess it's time for me to learn freelancing.1

My first freelance project.
My wallet was almost empty, but I got a 1 week project (YAY!), but paid after completion. Obviously, it didn't work out well. Feature creep followed me into the second week, I didn't get paid, I was out of money. When I asked for payment, their accountant was on vacation, and they told me they would pay me when everything is completed.
Went to stackoverflow (one of the sites that relates to freelancing) and asked about this dilemma. Was advised to move on unless they pay me. When I told them that I want out, because of money, they quickly found that accountant.
But even after that, ODesk (now upwork) was only pain. I was too fast for it. I demanded like 30$ per hour, which nobody wanted to pay, but when someone did risk it, they got too much for it. I ended up living paycheck to paycheck because it's so hard to convince people that you're good enough.
That site is only good for people in countries with very low living cost, that are OK with spending 4 hours per day trying to convince people of something.2 -
upwork job "Full Stack Developer with Laravel, PHP, Java Programming, Android, AWS expertise needed"... you guys forgot rocket scientist too6

Well, they are just fucking kidding
Unix guru on entry level... That moment, when you realise that client is too lazy to pick option intermediate or expert, but expects somebody to do evetything5 -
I think some of my co-workers see me as real life human version of Google search engine.
Hope they would understand that just because I'm little bit more up to date in tech knowledge and an accidental Google nerd doesn't make me a know it all..
But i understand their tendency to trust my recommendation over their googling skills
They want me to find
1- best freelancing website
2- best platform or service for someone who wants to do online teaching
Results that I'm aware of:
1- freelancer, guru, upwork
2- YouTube, udemy, Pluralsight, skillshare, thinkific
Any other recommendations?2 -
Hired me on Upwork, now the deadline is coming near and he is too busy to answer any of my attempts to get response...1
-
I never understood how people have any problems with getting paid for freelancing work, when middleman/escrow platforms like upwork exist, just don't be retarded when applying for a job. I am so sick of those shit ass stories from people telling me "my client didnt pay meeee 😭😭😭" ITS YOUR FAULT. I never had any client not paying, if you don't have the option of escrow, then just fucking put remote execution via "update" system in for fucks sake or give remote control to the client while monitoring it, there is so much fucking ways to secure yourself, just don't be retarded and many clients instantly show their character when talking budget and turnaround time.15

What if sites like Fiverr and Upwork are actually preparing us for when we all have to compete with third world programmers working for a dollar a day? 🤔2
-
Ok devRantia. I have a pretty important question. I need project experience and I have zero ideas. Also i'm 14 and can't exactly be reputable enough to land a freelance job om upwork. I am trying to build a good portfolio so that universities or companies will take me a little more seriously when I apply. Any ideas on how to go about this or some projects for me to do?10
-
1. As i was freelancing on upwork some company contacted me and said my CV looks interesting and they gave me a link from their site to download a .rar file with details about their company and dev positions
2. Ok i open the link and the whole site is just blank page with 1 single button: "Download 5.8 mb"
3. Thought to myself: who the fuck has this low quality site of a company, shitty as fuck and as if its built in the 90s. But ok
4. About 2 days later they got banned on upwork and we cant chat anymore. I send this .rar file to virus total and 7 anti virus softwares scanned a trojan + 14 security vendors flagged the rar as malicious malware
Are you FUCKING kidding me? This is the type of bullshit I'm expecting to see in web3 world. Who the FUCK comes on upwork to infect ENGINEERS?? Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME? I'll publish their data right now:
Link:
https://hsatrack.com/files/...
Password: 49-49Zb2
Their site:
https://hsatrack.com/
Honestly if i opened this fucking home page site first i would have smelled a virus miles away. But i just didnt expect a fucking virus AT ALL on UPWORK. Never happened to me before. This is the type of criminal fraud malware shit i expect AND SEE DAILY on WEB3 -- WHO TF DOES IT IN WEB2 IN 2023?? I'LL FUCK THIS CEO'S LIFE UPSIDE DOWN 180 RIGHT NOW2 -
Stupid idea?
I've been a designer for 10 years now and I'm stuck and bored. So I want to do something against that. I've tried countless times to learn to code on my own and failed. Now I fantasize of going abroad for 3 months. Hire a freelance full stack web developer to teach me 1on1 mo-fri 3-4 hours on how to make webapps. I've read that Kiev, Ukraine is very affordable and on upwork there are some amazing devs from kyiv.
But I'm not sure if that's a dumb idea?
What do you think? Would you teach someone for money? Any tipps on finding a webdev? Are you or do you know someone from Kiev or Ukraine?15 -
I need you guys' help.
As mentioned earlier in one of my rants, I trade stocks part time, make a little money. But I am too tired from my full time work. So it is badly affecting my health. My broker is providing us with an API and docs at a monthly fee to develop software to automate trades.
I posted a job on Upwork, a few freelancers bid but their price was way beyond my budget.
Hence I decided to take up programming.
I was initially inclined towards C#, but seeing as how complex it is, I was thinking of going for python. Do you think it is a reasonable decision?8 -
I hate UpWork and Freelancer.com fees and policies about the privacy (or lack) for your projects. But I grudgingly admit they offer protections against fraud. If you're a freelancer, or if you employ freelancers, and do so without the fraud protections of these types of services, how do you guard against being taken advantage of by clients or freelancers? I mean, anyone can write and sign contracts but in the end they're just paper promises not worth anything if the people you're working with or for are "dogs on the Internet" who can simply disappear.2
-
After 3 weeks of being interviewed on upwork she replied today and told me
"Sorry, the only reason we cant hire you is because the client wants only EU passport devs"
.....
Is this my fault? How is this my fault? EVERY FUCKING TIME WHEN I TRY TO SUCCEED AT ANYTHING LIFE JUST FORCEFULLY REJECTS ME FROM SUCCEEDING AND IT IS ALWAYS BECAUSE OF THE LUCK THAT I DONT HAVE. HOW IS IT MY FAULT FOR BEING BORN IN A GARBAGE BULLSHIT PIECE OF SHIT COUNTRY AND IMMEDIATELY HAVE HUGE DISADVANTAGE IN LIFE? HOW IS THAT FUCKING FAIR??? WHY DO YOU GIVE A FUCK FROM POLITICAL REGIONS WHERE I AM BORN IF I CAN DO THE DEV JOB RIGHT????? WHST RHE FUCK IS THIS FUCKING LOW LIFE ABOUT IF I ***NEED*** LUCK TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL. NO MATTER HOW SKILLED OR HARD YOU TRY YOU WILL ALWAYS APPARENTLY FAIL IF YOU ARE MISSING ***LUCK***13 -
I don't like when
you have a couple of years of experience with some language and you're like "I should read a good book about it, and have some proper solid foundation instead of playing by ear".
So you get a book and what follows is a very jarring experience.
Because for the first 8 chapters they get into the basics of the language.
You're occasionally like "interesting, I did not know that".
But for the most part you're like "yes, for fucking christ I know that, everybody knows that",
or you complain about the author being redundant,
or about the outdatedness of the book, since most documentation is now in the interwebs
or you reach flawed conclusions out of frustration like "this isn't making me any money, I could get on upwork, or do some bounties instead of wasting time on this"
then you start to skim through the pages like "I know this, and this, and this" until you realize you're in some page you have no fucking idea what it's talking about, as if you ended up on the wrong side of town
so you start backtracking (frustration is going critical at this point)
but backtracking is annoying because it's not well defined where you stopped getting it, as if in page 33 you were getting it 100%, but 0% on page 34, it's more like a gradual, irregular decrease,
so you have no idea where to start re reading from.
you just shove that shit into the wall at that point.
Some of these are learning discipline problems.
I guess there are ways to mitigate them, such as writing down questions of things not understood, co reading, etc.
But the one thing I don't think I can't get past is when authors write like shit,
like being redundant, using different words to say the same shit
or using confusing sentences that can mean different things at the same time,
or using the incorrect terminology, eg: if I were teaching OOP, saying shit like "classes create objects" but later on saying something like "classes create instances".
They usually nail the definitions the first time, but then use different terms for the same thing. It's shit.
And I think that's a writing culture that I hate.
From school you are taught to bot repeat words.
To say the same shit in different ways.
To be descritive, but vague.
That's absolutely shitty for programming in my opinion.2 -
It's so goddamn hard to get work on freelancer, upwork, people per hour sites when you're just starting, how are you meant to get your foot in the door when nobody fives you chance!5
-
Somewhere on upwork post online.
1. Require backend architecting done for Twitter like app. <more details on app >
2. Client budget: fixed price, 200$ -
What's a better freelancing medium than upwork.com? The competition there makes it very difficult to land anything with a good price if at all.2

does anybody of you do freelance work and outsource it to upwork/fiverr and living the sweet nothing to do life (except talking to the customer and writing briefings)?

Guys ! Need some help !
I am a final year CS undergraduate;will graduate in 2017 . I have been working with a team of freelancers developing websites and apps for the past couple of years. The thing is our client base is very small and the income is unstable because of our poor marketing and lack of good developers. Our team lead only doesn't maintain any version control,no code comments, sub standard code, and spends all the savings(we keep some money aside for expenses like meetings, traveling as a team etc) on movies, hangouts etc . I cannot tell it to his face but I have been looking to move out for sometime.
Should I continue freelancing by myself or apply in jobs ? And if I apply in jobs, do I apply as a fresher or a someone with a couple of years of experience ?
And if I continue as a freelancer, where do I start ? I checked upwork and freelancer.com but they have some cut-throat competition out there .5 -
Hello
This is my situation:
Junior
Data Scientist
No working experience
From Latam
From Venezuela
Only allowed to work remotely
No work visa for USA or EU
Weeks looking for job, no luck, obviously.
Everything seems to be against me for land a job, at least a decent one. The other option is try to work in Upwork for 100 bucks implementing full pipelines, that is a joke.
Just sad.13 -
I just solved a 3 or 4 month old bug. Dont even know how long I've been struggling. But im tired. I had to hire people off upwork. Over 20 developers failed to solve this problem. 4 months later this one guy solved it within a day.... Fck u flutter1

Sorry if this isn't very dev related:
Does anybody know any good freelancing websites for artists, illustrators, ui/ux designers, etc. ?
I've seen upwork, but they're so uptight they don't accept everyone.5 -
I hate websites like upwork and freelancer, its impossible to outbid the other applicants while maintaining a price that makes the work worth the trouble. Yet without them its impossible to find clients who are willing to pay $1k for anything no matter how big of a project it is, they keep looking for $200 solutions. Hows a developer supposed to raise some cash for a house and shit like that.1

I'm a self-taught frontend developer with 1,5 - 2 years of experience in JavaScript / Vue.js development. Pretty cliche in 2023 and I can actually feel this now when it comes to the job market. It's brutal at the moment.I moved to Germany for a specific job but got laid off a few weeks ago due to a lack of projects and actual things to do. And here I am right now: tons of job applications, 4-5 interviews a week, zero success.
I'm thinking about getting some warehouse job or anything for the time being, and start freelancing in my spare time. Instead of this oversaturated JavaScript landscape, I would get into PHP (not as "hip" so less competition, backend, no new tools every 6 months), SQL, or hyper-specialize in CSS - something I like quite a bit but have seemingly zero value to employers.
I actually made a simple website for a small business when I was getting started with frontend, and he was super happy with the end result. I also did some language tutoring, that was quite rewarding as well. So freelancing is definitely fun, I enjoyed it much more than fearing layoffs or trying to force a fake-ambitious attitude on my 30th interview that most probably won't lead me anywhere. :D
Is the frontend job market really this oversaturated? (I know, I know... It's not difficult for competent, skilled, and experienced devs with CS degrees) Is being a CSS specialist, PHP-developer, or SQL-magician on fiverr/upwork/etc. a viable freelancing path? I've heard good and bad about these platforms, the competition there, etc. If not, where should I start?
What do you think? Any input is much appreciated. :)4 -
I have been working as a freelancer for a little while now. I recently started using upwork. The first job that I got on upwork was titled: “help me”, the bio explained that it was with node.js. Later, during the interview, the client mentioned that it was 30+ hours a week. I was kind of confused. I had no idea what I was getting into. A little bit down the road, he provided me with the project. This is when I almost wanted to jump off a cliff. The code was organised as if it was a c or c++ app and I couldn’t follow anything. The guy thought that “pass by reference” was a thing in JS. I cried. Granted, with objects, there are some reference exceptions, but generally passed by value. The code is like spaghetti... I still have 2 months left on the contract. It’s awful.5

Yeeehaw,
i finally get rid off that over-the-top dependency on Zend\Config in upwork/phystrix
The Pull-Request is on it's way:
https://github.com/upwork/phystrix/...
After 4 years of "this will take minutes to refactor" and "yeah. I totally agree. Replace Zend\Config with Array Interfaces", someone (in this case me) took finally care of this easy to solve issue :)
I hope it will be merged soon into the master branch -
I am working as business development officer,I was keeping on discussing requirement with my client since ,5-6 days she was almost ready next day she suddenly put the whole requirements which I help her to figure out what actually she want or look like she posted the same to upwork for other developers to bid.2
-
!rant Freelancers of devRant, how do you find your clients? I have 2 years experience and I am thinking of starting out with Upwork.2
-
Looking for potential clients on Upwork is like finding a holy grail these days.
Cheap clients with laughable budgets and high expectations on the right.
"Devs" and "Designers" with questionable skills who will work for the lowest rate possible on the left.
And don't forget the ever growing service fees and absurd measures like turning your profile private if you don't make any income in 30 days. Suuure, that's totally going to help anyone who isn't willing to work with low rates.
I am getting done with Upwork. Back on Elance I managed to get a couple of really good clients for long term projects and good commissions. Here it's impossible, even with lower rates.
You're competing against people whose portfolio involves changing a few colors for a envato template or logos made of stock graphics, and they are still more likely to be hired over you because they are willing to work on a t-shirt design for $4!
Networking is where is at. Getting contacts, talking to people, force yourself to introduce to companies as a potential asset.
That's how you get the good projects, right?
... Right, folks?1 -
Client: I would like to subcontract for this area you don't have much experience in.
Me: Alright, sounds good.
Client: Ok, so you can get that job ad up on the sites you use (Upwork / ODesk) over the weekend and we can meet again the same time next week. Sound good?

What are your opinions on this? Seems pretty Orwellian to me....

Upwork should build a anonymous comment section for swearing to the fucking hiring managers who wants their website to be developed for $1002

How do I get started on freelancer.com or upwork ,with so much competition.any one got tips or tricks?3

this sucker. Don't make me laugh. Yes, I know what place is that, and yes, I know many of those and most of them rip you off (tho they are good for anyone starting on anything) but no, I'm not interested, Mr. Shady Russian guy.2

What's a fair rate range to charge as a Junior Web Developer? If you're interested in why the hell I'm asking, I'm going to try out Upwork despite knowing it's a mostly bad idea.2

Hi!, Greetings fellow ranters,
I got into thinking this past few days. Because over the years, i really wanted to start my career as a freelance web/mobile developer, i'm not planning to quit my job(yet), but i want to slowly but surely build my freelance career. I just need some advice from you on how i should optimally or best approach this goal, and where/how should i find clients or what sites should i find clients, i know freelancer.com but I've heard other freelancers who had nightmares with it, upwork is also kind of overcrowded.13 -
Hello fellow devs, first post here but absolutely love this community!
Has anyone got advice for doing casual freelance work alongside a day job? I'm currently looking at sites like Fiverr and Upwork and would love to hear your advice/experiences/opinions.5 -
What's everyone second source of income?
Curious on how you started and money per month of average for it. Feel I should start working towards it in case of layoffs or just need of extra money.
Is freelancing on upwork worth it?13 -
Heya guys
Looking to get some extra cash so I'd like to strike out on my own a bit as well.. But struggling to get going... Don't really have a network orso to get opportunities...
I've seen sites like upwork promising great results, and I'm about to sign up for them now, to see how it goes...
But my question is, any of you guys have some tips and tricks for me?3 -
I applied for a job on Upwork..
Client was in regular touch with me through emails.. He selected me after I showed him code of the projects done by me..
Then I sent an email asking him to tell me more about the company..
And no reply from him thereafter..
Any similar expeirence? Aren't we supposed to know atleast something about the company that we are working for?2 -
Is there any decent and less time wasting website gauging for freelancers looking for gigs? (Upwork is trash for newcomers)3

It's hard not to judge people when posting a job on a freelance site and getting replies from "Self assessed fluent English" users like "Dear Sir, reply to posting job for experience I can make things happen for you very well". FS2

Upwork fucking suspended my fucking account because I fucking didn't get enough fucking attention from their fucking spam users.10

Any advice for getting more from upwork? I just started and got my first job and want to hear experienced advices. Detailed answers are appreciated. -
I hate that fucking Upwork for having so much fucking scrapers
Most of jobs are fucking scraping related
Looks like it is the only useful thing they can do for their projects or advertisments... -
Hey folks,
Where are you getting your freelance orders?
I'm thinking about upwork but not sure yet.
May4th be with you:) -
TBH I feel terrible, I hire and underpay developers on upwork. I'm such a scumbag, but it's soo addictingly cheap to abuse desperate low-income devs. One day when i get my startup going, I'll make things right and pay them properly. Until then, "get back to work you third world m*ther f*ckers". I'm jk, I'm tw too.

Anyone else get told their rates are too high (by potential clients)? Too low (by fellow freelancers)? How does one put a value to their time and still stay market competitive?
Details: USA only. Not on any platforms such as freelancer, upwork, or fiver. Cost of living is Portland Oregon standards. Ask for any other details.
Looking for thoughts, recommended readings, any helpful input would be awesome.2 -
Hello folks,
Need an advice for getting some freelance jobs on upwork (looks like the most promising). The thing is that I have revised my profile many times, I get jobs to reply to my invoice and discuss a bit and they seem satisfied but at the end they reject my invoice generally because of a lack of experience on upwork.. I mean it's a paradox God damnit! I have projects I want to offer a descent living for my lady and I with all my will I can't get more job.. -
Does anyone know a good place to find part-time Angular or .Net jobs, to be paid hourly?
P.s something other than upwork or fiverr.7 -
Question for Work at home peeps. For Data Entry positions. Do companies send you stuff to your house to do the job. Like laptop with software installed?. I was offered a data entry through Upwork. Just looking to get my front into the whole freelance thing. They asking for like address and Email. Is this normal1

Is it only me or is it bloody hard to get into freelancing or remote work ?
I am a CS graduate, I have worked for a company that owns an online business. I didn't last a year with them for various reasons but let's just say work in my country is not so great. So I have been trying to get a remote position for few months now without a shadow of a success. I've built a Portfolio with a couple of projects while trying Upwork and some remote working websites with no luck.
What are your thoughts on this, what do you recommend me to do ?2 -
Hey,
I've been wanting to take on some freelance work in my free time. As I have a lot of free time.
So does anyone know a site more geared towards amateur to intermideate dev's who want to gain experience and are willing to work at lower rates because of that ? Or any site where i can just hop on and find some work. I've been suggested upwork but that seems to be more for more experienced devs.4 -

Need exact copy of already fucked up website done in Wordpress because the Drupal one wasn't maintained. Will gladly pay $100.1 -
Today, I got accepted in Upwork as A full Stack web developer. Is anyone have an advise in how I could get my first job? And any hacks in writing proposal?2

Want to do some freelancing projects for first time, but never tried freelancing websites like upwork, freelancing.com etc.
I guess it requires reputation to get good projects.
Any idea how to get good freelancing projects? -
I got my first client at upwork almost a week ago and the experience has been awful so far, not because of this client but because of the codebase, it's so bad, it is running DEBUG=True on production and if I turn it DEBUG=False things break for some fucking reason that makes no sense (I don't think that's true but the previous developer states it). The website is running on pythonanywhere which is weird, bootstrap is a nightmare, the database needs to be in sync all the time using a manage.py command that executes tasks received through a webhook from a Hubspot shit that has all the information. Just adding a simple edit/verify profile on that site is such a fucking nightmare. The whole project its full of holes and things that are just screaming to break, its like a fucking house of cards that falls to the ground the second I edit something and it looks like its my fault. I'm thinking of telling the client that I will no longer work on this project
