Used a good hour locating curly brackets, pipe and tilde on that cryptic keyboard.
User-friendly my ass.13 -

Made up my mind to quit my new job yesterday. Im constantly bored. Either I have no work assigned no matter how much I ask for more, or I get handed work where the solution is already identified.
Obviously gonna find a new job first, wish me luck!8 -
I'm actually starting to search for a new job and no clue about this so I'll just sit by and watch 😇13
-
I did just quit my job.
It was my first job ever.
The only job I've ever had.
But I kinda couldn't take it anymore, the pay was a bit too low and the projects were really demanding.
On Monday, I'll sign my new contract in another company, I'm REALLY looking forward to it and barely can wait!
I'll be working with just one tech-stack which is awesome compared to now where I have to work on like 5 different stacks, sometimes in a single day.
I can't wait for the new job to kick in.10 -
I hate fucking searching for new job! But I hate my company also! And I hate autocomplete trying to suggest ducking! No I am never going to write fucking ducking!fuck!4
-
I officially start my new job next week. After years of working in factories and warehouses and struggling to find interviews because I suck at taking initiative, I have finally secured a job that is inside of an air conditioned building.3
-
So I started new job, full js dev but new project requires python backend. 0 prior python exp but ready to lean and learn. Got my first assignment. Supportive coworkers made me a death clock counter2
-
Dude from old job who treated me like shit messaged me to implement 2 new features. I quit like half a year ago now. Ok i guess.6
-
My 1 year old waddled her way to where I am sitting to my computer and gives me this. I start a new job this Monday and have been really nervous, I always get nervous when I start a new job. Guess who is going to be sitting with me at my office this monday? :)7
-
Got a notification for a new job. Apparently this is a junior position. I just wonder what else you have to know to get a senior position in that company10
-
First commit message at a new job:
"This is to fix an issue where {issue} was happening because of {reason}. {Detailed description of the exact changes and the reasoning of every single one}."
Second commit message at a new job:
"Did some stuff."4 -
Start a new job working in systems administration.
Create redundancy so you can finally pull out cables.
Trip over the fucking cables before you're able to impliment the switch.
....
Look for a new job4 -
Manager: "We're gonna have to work over the weekend to add this shiny new feature!"
Me: "Peanuts and Incentives included?"
Manager: "No, but you get job satisfaction!"
Me: 😒4 -
A coworker that is producing incredibly bad code and refuses to learn new stuff was declared "senior developer" by my boss. And me with over 20y experience? I am just a junior.. and have to clean up his mess all the time. I guess it is time to find new job.5
-
Long time lurker, first time poster.
My goals for week 200:
1. Get engaged to my girlfriend
2. Finish my ems
3. Begin plans for launching my startup
4. Leave my deadend retail job, get a real job, and actually use the degree I spent 34k to get.
5. Keep learning cool new shit.1 -
My team is working against me, seriously time to look for a new job! Bad management, piss poor communication, and...I'm in the wrong room: https://www.devrant.io/rants/2857231
-
I want to leave my job because it only uses old technologies but when I look for jobs they're looking for people with experience on new technologies. Catch-22.3
-
Someone put my name on a mailing list for pornographic material to try to get me fired from my new job6
-
I'm curious, is email campaigns such as 'constant contact' part of a devs job? new job wants me to be in charge of this and I could not think of a worse job I would like to do.
I don't even check my own email!
I hate social media and suck at posting anything besides random useless memes.
REALLY??! Email campaign????18 -
Quited my job because I want to code and not project managing (instead of coding). Found a new job as front-end developer with opportunity to become a full stack dev.
-
First day of my new job tomorrow.. nervous as fuck, still looking forward to it:)
New year, new job, new home.. it’s gonna be good!
Just wanted to share this:)6 -
New job...
No introduction to project
No database overview
No documentation
No commented code
Shit, hope this isn't normal in the industry I have aimed the rest of my life at9 -
Not learning data structures and algorithms. Not learning programming languages. Actually not learning anything to answer during a job interview.
I am more of a learn-while-you-do kind of guy. I never learn anything, instead just do it. Interviewers think I am useless because I know nothing. But I can get a job done, any kind of job done. I have no learning period, I can start working from first day in a all new language, in a all new IDE, in a all new OS.
I know nothing, and I learn nothing. I am a problem solver. You got a problem, I can solve it.6 -
> be me

15 days and counting until I move to my new job working for the smartest person I know on something I'm passionate about. Holy shit! This is gonna happen!6

When the head of a department thinks migrating an old system to a new system is "just a copy and paste job"1

If you want a New Zealand developer job, you need a work visa. If you apply a work visa you need a job offer to get enough points...6
-
Got a great new job, great athmosphere here, great salary and exciting projects :) looking forward to the future here!11
-
I am good as Front End developer, using JavaScript I can do the job, the whole job. Developing, Styling, designing and deploying the web applications is my daily job for few years now...
Today I quit my job for a new position as Back End developer using a new programming language I totally know nothing about it!!!
I am not sure about my decision... but I would like to take the risk....2 -
So, 2 weeks ago I started my new job at a company I had my eye on for almost a year, feeling super blessed because after leaving my previous job with such a toxic work environment, it is so refreshing to be around new people who actually value you. I’m so excited to learn new skills and push myself towards the role I was dreaming of since university. :-)3
-
Thanks to my new job, now i have the time enought to meditate.
The planning meetings are so long and so usefull. -
I'm starting my new job in 10 days, but I don't have the proper internet access to feel really confident about it. My parents want me to move out of the house so they don't have to accommodate for my new job. I'm getting chemo in a few weeks. I'm really sick of fighting shit. Trusting in the plan though.4
-
Today I officially ditched PHP for Golang. I left my job where we were doing modern software with templating language for new and shiny Golang job. Was telling stories about how cool Golang is, and how PHP sucks. Felt good man... Wanted to do it for so long...18
-
Just started a new job yesterday in Software Config. I mentioned automating something that could be easily automated, and my coworker looked up and said "You're trying to automate 80% of my job. Stop."... This is my life now.4
-
I quit my previous job to relax. Then current job came out of nowhere.
How? I just added a new framework I tried to my resume.
Best decision made so far.2 -
Moving to a new job 5 months after starting the previous one. The company did not manage to pass my probation period.5
-
Hit udemy, Google for any new technologies, attend large conferences, and simply spend 30 mins to an hour each day coding in anything new - and of interest.
I have to keep up with the young people, to keep my job/career alive, heh.1 -
First day of new year, first day of relaxing until my new job starts .. Plan to travel and not code for awhile!2
-
I got a new job! 🎉
I'll be starting next month.
I had two offers. The first company tried to offer me less than expected, but I was able to negotiate. But after some more consideration, I accepted the second offer.
[I have some more stories from my job hunt that I'll post later.]3 -
New job starts june 19!
Then Iceland the week after that 😍
One week to dev around and upgrade my website abit 😁3 -
Visual Basic at high-school, pascal and C and Java at University. VBA for macros on a job. html+css+js learnt o er a weekend to pass the screening for a new job, then ruby and php on that job to build internal tools. Now I am into python for data science. It has been fun.1
-
Our job is basically doing something new or something we've never done everyday and trying to guess things over and over again until it works.3
-
>be web designer at last company

Got a new job last October. And so far, I've nothing to rant about, it's absolutely perfect, too perfect.. Me scared of karma3
-
Started a new job today. Now to get used to all the new coding standards and ways of working...
At least I received a welcome pack full of booze to help me get through it :)3 -
Started a new job, they handed me a new phone and asked me to have my 2 phones with me all the time. So sad technology for putting 2 SIM cards in one phone has not been invented yet. Oh wait4
-
First day in new job, decided to take the train because city is so overloaded with cars, it is end of april and snow outside wtf. Best weather for coding :D4
-
Not really the start of a new job, but at a job interview I tried to pour myself some water and literally flooded the whole table :D
They invited me back for an internship actually, but I chose another company.1 -
I just started my new job as web developer. I have to work on an already existant PHP project, made by a random guy before me.
His code is so horrible it gave me a headache. At 10am (job starts at 9am..)5 -
Started my new job as a devops engineer, its been al month and i have never seen the seen of aws console or travis ci, dont even have credentials for any company cloud services.
I guess i should change my job title to backend dev1 -
Today I decided to quit my job as a web developer.
And so I did..
NOT!
April fools. I'm still working all day without time to do or learn new things.2 -
Almost a month has gone by with my new job, and I already hate it. I thought it would be fun... but it is the worst!
They expect us to work 24/7! What are we? Robots? I am not working 24/7, end of discussion. Even if this means I have to quit my job at the end of this week if they don't agree to my "demands" about having a healthy working hours. I am already looking for a new job, because I got a feeling they won't want me there anymore after this week, because we're going to have a meeting about this.3 -
update : love my new job... but, holly crap the sharepoint environment is a cluster fuck... guess who has to fix it... -!-6
-
"Why don't you look for a new job?"
I have a monthly coffee meetup with an ex colleague, where we rant about each others frustrations at work. Since she used to be part of my team she knows everybody and can relate to my stories and updates. In short: she was the kick in the boot I needed to start looking, and after the summer break I'll start a new job making 45% more.2 -
I'm on a trial day for a new designer job. Now i'm tasked to implement my screen design into html. I feel so lost.8
-
I postponed a job interview due to overtime stress at current job.
I want a New job cause I'm not being treated well and worked to death.
I think the exhaustion and sleep depravity is screwing with my priorities.
Why in hell did I postpone? -
At my previous job when I was new, I asked my boss to let me use headphones while working, It'll increase my attention and productivity to work but he denied right away.2
-
Here's a short story about luck:
A few months ago my wife signed a new job contract requiring relocation. However before starting that new job she got another (and much better) offer (also relocating to the same place) which she took on. Recently that first company fired 700+ people, including the unlucky one that filled her position.
If she had not gotten that second offer, she'd be out of a job after just relocating.1 -
Started my new job in November. At least it only took me four months to discover the toxic culture before I'm on the market again. Uuuuugggggh Fuuuuck.2
-
I would literally rather find a new job than have to build software that accommodates IE/Edge
That is all.1 -
Random rant: You should always look for a new job, even after landing a good(seemingly) one. It keeps you on edge and synchronized with the market.
Employers also should not shun people who are looking for new job, if they somehow find out. A developer who looks for a job, gets offer but decide to stay is better than who lost his/her/xir fire.3 -
I'm starting a new job in a month!
I'm simultaneously excited and anxious about it.
Excited because I get to work on some new cool projects, use new tech, get great pay and benefits, and it really seems like a great place for me.
Anxious because I am currently on sick leave with stress, because my current job wore me down. Not so much the tasks themselves, but the atmosphere and attitude of management. So I have to hope that I can manage to get enough rest in the coming month that I am well enough to perform well at my new job.4 -
Anyone have the experience where you are learning a new programming language and you are eager to do stuff with it but you need to use another one for your job? So frustrating!2
-
literary 2h in on my new job i had to drive home and get my own keyboard.. the generic, plasticy rubberdome-one was aweful.13
-
Was hating my new job. Turns out my PM is new and was assigning me tasks outside the scope of what I do. But yeah PM, keep pushing for a shiny front end to an internal tool. Not. Happening.1
-
Remember that time I did an interview and it went horribly and I wanted to die then got called back and aced that shit? Well I got the job. Pay is bunkers too. Excited to be part of a new very cool project.2
-
I had 2 features I coded pushed to prod today at work! It's my first week at my new job. It made me realize how toxic and detrimental my last job was to both my self esteem and career. I'm so happy!!2
-
I Just realized that during my sort conversation with my boss tonight where I said I haven't learned anything new from this job in years. That usually I bring what I learned during my own time to work. He said "didn't you learn something new investigating this issue?"
NO I DO NOT WANT TO FUCKING HAVE TO HAVE A PROD ISSUE IN ORDER TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW.... -
Finally switched jobs after 7 years, with the expectation to have bigger workload then at my previous job where i almost fell a sleep.
To find even less workload at my new job, asked my manager if i could do something extra because i'm bored.
To get the answer that i don't have permission to do extra work for a half year, because they think its already a big workload for a new employee and they don't want to give me a burn out..
Sigh... what to do... any ideas?8 -
Have you ever started a new job and they have a bunch of legacy and technical debt so much that it doesn’t even makes sense trying to fix anything3
-
From the only tech guy (after co worker left) at my old job to 'the new guy' at my new job
Its a fucking flip lol
But at least I'm not dealing with a terrible ceo and growth
Day 3 and they're already trusting me with stuff and not treating me like a child even though I'm asking a million questions
And they're already discussing how I can use my actual background experience to do new unique things for the department rather than just bogging me down with instructions and "do it this way"2 -
Started a new job on Monday. STILL DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THE FUCKING SERVERS I NEED TO ANYTHING. Holy fucking shit I'm annoyed. Fuck you corporate bullshit. I already feel like quitting.3
-
when you start a new job where they just switched to a new CMS product that is no longer being developed... then find out they spend tons of money on a vendor to set it up for them.
At least it's supported for the near future. Last job was using FoxPro and AS400 mainframe2 -
So the last 2 devs who I really looked up to and respected at my company peaced out within the last 2 months. So I began seriously chasing offers while the market was hot. The new bigwigs that were brought in at the company knew I was one of the biggest flight risks, so they threw more money at me without me asking for it.
I just got an offer from a company that I really like that matched the salary that I was bumped to - to them it exceeds my expectations because they did not know about this preemptive bump.
Best part is, I applied to this company on my own, the old fashioned way. No recruiter as my hype person or negotiator. I made a good impression on them myself.
No, wait, the real best part - they offered me a senior level role after seeing my code in a day-long working interview (virtual of course). I mean I had to do some shit with RabbitMQ, which I had heard about and seen in passing, but never worked with before, which to my own surprise, I got working in a matter of a few hours. Blows my mind that someone outside of my old company actually thinks I'm good.
No, wait, the REAL real best part: I've spent the last 4 years - a large majority of my professional career - at my current company. I experienced a lot of growth, but they shoehorned me into a development manager role, which bummed me out as i found myself getting farther and farther away from the code. I'm so excited to get a fresh start and go back to spotify + code for 10 hours a day. -
Signing the contract with a new agency as their new dev in 3 hrs. Will quit my current Job on Aug. 18. Looking forward to that day. Boss will explode...5
-
I'm getting fired because while, searching for a new job, the hr call my boss to ask him why i was quitting (he didn't know yet)3
-
You had one job FedEx! ONE JOB!
Guess I'll be waiting a little longer for my new graphics card..... 😒 Wouldn't be so bad if I had another one to use while I waited.
FML!5 -
Just went to install synergy for my new home setup after moving house and starting a new job where they gave me a Linux laptop3
-
In other news:
I've been notified that my new working visa is ready so I can start to work with the new company that offered me an overall-better job position.
Yay! -
New job. Almost all sites are blocked due to "security"... even spotify. I can' listen to the music. Fortunately i have access to dev rant xd5
-
After a solid 23 hours drive from Houston TX to Denver Co, I am officially ready to call quits on driving! However I'm ready to start the new job on Monday!!!!2
-
mkdir new-shiny-app
cd new-shiny-app
git init
Decide on the stack, release the package manager on it to scaffold away. Everything still clean and pure.
One of those little joys of our job :) -
When you are fired from a project (restructuring and finance related) and before you have free time multiple companies are already soliciting for you....
Why people? I was planning on having a few days off....1 -
Kind of awkward for me.
Tomorrow is my last day at my current job and my department is starting to work full time remote tomorrow.
I start my new job this next Monday, and they went full remote yesterday. As of now they're shipping my laptop my way, but they cancelled new hire orientation on Monday and moved it to the following week. I haven't heard about what is expected for Monday yet, guess I'll know soon!3 -
-- Best --
> Submitted my notice of termination for my current job
> Found a new job starting next year
> Can switch from Windows to Linux/MacOS in new job
> Got more time to work on personal projects due to the pandemic
-- Worst --
> Huge amount of software restrictions (current job) almost got several projects at work canceled. Maybe its important to say that the core business of my current workplace is auditing so there are a lot of law regulations which then apply in the softwaredevelopment process.
> New managers that do not have the slightest clue of what they're doing
> Online Teambuilding events
> Absurd amount of segmentation of tools and also different coding guidelines that are used at work. E.g. one team uses jira, another trello, another github issue tracker and so on. -
My wife got me a new job, now I have to quite to the current one before Saturday, I'm currently in charge of every process in engineering area.😰8
-
My goals are:
1. Start my new job in Feb.
2. Overcome the challenges I will face in the new environment.
3. Learn, learn, learn
4. Don’t forget to rest.1 -
After moving to my new job, I caved and agreed to stay on part time for my old company.
Worst decision ever2 -
At my new job I'm allowed to goof around more while at the same time less. Im no longer limited to tech and can just choose the best tool for the job and fuck around trying out new interesting stuff that might work. But at the same time IF I FUCK UP, you will definetly read about it in the news!12
-
So I started working at a large, multi billion dollar healthcare company here in the US, time for round 2,(previously I wasn't a dev or in IT at all). We have the shittiest codebase I have ever laid eyes on, and its all recent! It's like all these contractors only know the basics of programming(i'm talking intro to programming college level). You would think that they would start using test driven development by now, since every deployment they fix 1 thing and break 30 more. Then we have to wait 3 months for a new fix, and repeat the cycle, when the code is being used to process and pay healthcare claims.
Then some of my coworkers seem to have decided to treat me like I'm stupid, just because I can't understand a single fucking word what they're saying. I have hearing loss, and your mumbling and quiet tone on top of your think accent while you stop annunciated your words is quite fucking hard to understand. Now I know english isn't your first language and its difficult, I know, mine is Spanish. But for the love of god learn to speak the fuck up, and also learn to write actual SQL scripts and not be a fucking script kiddie you fucking amateur. The business is telling you your data is wrong because you're trying to find data that exists is complex and your simple select * from table where you='amateur with "10years" experience in SQL' ain't going to fucking cut it. Learn to solve problems and think analytically instead of copy fucking pasta. -
In my new job I'm supposed to get a macbook.
I've never used a mac but I'm a long time Linux PC user.
What should I expect/note?15 -
some friend asked me today:
is it ok to lie to boss and say that I had a new job offer.. just to negotiate on the salary?
Me: post question on devrant13 -
I feel so fucking happy, today i was accepted as a new Dev on a new Job, I will need to move and leave some things, but man, I was really thinking that maybe i wasn't enough for this country
-
Why do I find really hard to connect with my coworkers?! I'm an introvert but after few months in my old job I connected with everyone. In my new job I find it really hard! And it's almost a year! 😥😫5
-
Realising that my skills were stagnating and there was no opportunity to improve them or grow my career.
After 5 years in the same job (longest I've held) I started looking for a new one.
I'm now in a new job, doing much better work (even if it's a little chaotic right now) with the potential for growth in the future.
Whilst I loved the old job in terms of the staff and the atmosphere, I now couldn't be happier I made the decision.1 -
Hi guys! I need your help.
I'm currently facing a big decision.
I've got a job offer a couple of days ago. The new job would involve an 80% raise to my current salary, and I would make another step on the hierarchy ladder.
BUT
The new place is not a software development company. They have a small team working on internal stuff, but they are basically maintaining a 12 years old garbage.
My job would be, to design the new system from the ground up. At the moment, the new system has to do the same things as the old one, just faster and better. Then they'd like to extend it further.
The first part is not challenging, but the things that they planned in the future sound interesting.
The problem is, that my current company just got a new contract and I'm supposed to conduct the deploy (speaking with their managers, prepare their sites for installation, and install). And since it is a small startup, the deploy depends highly on me.
If I take the new job, then I have to start in February which ultimately means that I screw my current company real bad. They'll probably survive, but they might lose this contract and/or lose money.
If I do what makes economic sense, then I take the job. (fuck it's almost 2x as much!!) But I have mixed feelings about it.
I've got 48 hours to decide.
What do you guys think?6 -
Fuck my current manager. Doesn't even know how to treat his employees. Always demotivates whatever we do and never gets satisfied.....so am in search of a new job!!!😕2
-
I've just started my new career with a job in IT operations and I love it. After my electrical engineering degree I fell into a job as a website manager for a small company, I self taught html and css and I knew from then that I had found a job that didn't feel like a job. I'm excited to learn everything I need to know to progress as far as I can go in this industry. In my first few weeks at this new job (where i have my own office!) I've self taught python to create automation scripts for live projects, currently up to my eyeballs trying to figure out how to change the VB code for an excel module.....Then there have been so many other projects and bugs and I love it! Any tips and advice is greatly appreciated!undefined new job first post newbie advice needed gimme more money bitch learning to code operations2
-
By trying to do my best. Doing a good job makes me feel good and gives me even more motivation.
Also by trying something new every time. Either by using new library, new approach do to things or whatever. Just to keep stuff exciting. -
So related to my very first rant, after two months on the new job, I got the whole team together (including my boss) and taught them how version controlling works!5
-
So I am new to coding — excited to be learning but terrified to get out and find some sort of job when that time comes.8
-
Grass is always greener on the other side.
Whatever your problem.. my advice:
Time to get a new job! -
Man all I ever do is fix bugs in a giant overgrown calculator, that has references to code before I was even born. It might be new job time
-
First day is over on the new job. So much information about onboarding and hr, but I just want to code...2
-
Just recently got a new job.
On the old jobs we've always held connection via mail, slack, fb messenger groups and whatever.
But on this new IT job they have this really weird theory of that when you want something, you've to stand up, walk to the coworkers booth, and use this super odd "voice" communication.
Such a barbaric routine!2 -
My first job, I was expecting to be part of Android team but assigned to php team, a little disappointed but I guess as a developer its not something new 😛.
Excited first day first job2 -
So a product manager emailing devs long essays on requirements? how does that sound? Aren't developers just supposed to implement the specifications? Is requirement gathering and design their job too? Maybe I need a new job before I go crazy.3
-
I used to have time to read up on new web development tools and techniques and it helped me get a better job.
Now I have a better job I'm always busy, which I love, but it's harder to keep up to date.
I do some reading in my own time but it's more difficult to focus.
Thinking about it, I suppose I do keep learning just by being at work and solving new problems.1 -
Just moved countries and started a new job at an awesome company, which is so great I have nothing yet to rant about.
Oh here goes: almost three weeks with no internet at home and no end in sight.2 -
New task with a march deadline, our 1 developer (me) will work on multiple projects, while also learning about AR (I'm a WebDev) and creating a commercial ready AR app....
I think it's time to get back to looking for a new job... -
I'm in this weird place where I want a job but also want to learn new languages so that I have better chances of getting a job. I also really like learning and figuring out new ways to develop things and seeing what's out there.

First job starts in June, so I guess my first rant is that I don't have much to rant about (yet). Time to lurk .-.
P.S: Google why 4 notifications for new device sign-ins :[ -
I need to decide about my new job:
+ 20% more salary
+ better job/role
+ 1 or 2 days in the office by average per week
- no more 100% remote
Accept or no? I have been working from home for 3 years24 -
Finally.... After 3.5 months of serious job searching... I start a new job on Monday.
Even a few months ago , finding a new gig in mobile development was very fast - 9 calendar days from initial search to sitting in a new desk was my personal record. But a couple of weeks was pretty typical
What happened? Was there a huge influx of mobile devs? More H1-b visa holders? The competition seems like there are far more developers
Anyway, happy to be sitting in a new desk on Monday2 -
Worst experience with new job?
I haven't had any good experience with a new job to begin with. After the interview, it's usually only downhill from there.1 -

First post...starting a new job today, and I will be working as a JavaScript developer (Node, angular). I only worked with Java before this job and my only JS experience is with little side projects. I am super excited to get start working with new technologies. Anyone out there have a similar experience?4 -
Hello, I am new on devrant.
Trying to finally land a job after studying for so long. I must say that for a lot of interviews their questions are quite unpleasant and after interview itself I often feel like an idiot. Guess it's not my thing to communicate that much.
If there are any other devs shy/with an introvert personality: How did you overcome stress and later initial uncertainty in new job?5 -
I fucking hate my job! This site sucks ass and I have no motivation to work on it! Would love to get a new job with a fresh sleek site, but unfortunately my autism kicks in bad during technical interviews. Oh fuck me!5
-
sooo, new job. turns out they have an external dvd drive that I was forced to use! crazy spinning fun! Haven't seen those for a couple of years!1
-
I'll be starting a new job soon, and I'm sure there will be a chance to implement some form of process for the dev team to use...
To Scrum or to Kanban?2 -
Refactoring a long, nauseating piece of code while the mouse died.
Finished the job, about to push, KDE froze.
Good enough excuse for trying a new distro I guess.4 -
Want to find new job, but there's no good companies in city i live... don't want to move...life is dilemma4

So started my new job this week (first Dev job after 4 years on various support desks) it’s going ok, but for some inexplicable reason they use visual source safe for version control.
I had to google it, i can’t even install it on Windows 10!8 -
I recently started a new job, where they introduced me to the concept of being handed a low-level technical design.
They've hired me to be a keyboard monkey. -

Just need a job where i have to travel a lot, meet new cultures, new people, try everything new8 -
Going on a new job interview later this week. Am I stupid for feeling bad possibly having to quit my current job? Feel like they did a bad investment if I quit after just a couple of months, and that I just cost them money 😕😞4
-
Day two at my new job, they have not found the manual for their own tool yet, and i'm scolling trough 200 different keys to find the right combo just to start somwhere

1. Having a bsc degree is not enough
2. The new standard is master degree
3. What's next a phd degree as the new standard?
4. Then what? I have to be a millionaire first so i can be hired to work a job?9 -
Ordered to implement Old functionality in New system, not allowed to fix it, refactor or change the underlaying mess.
Wrap old system in a wcf, hardcoded some values, done.
3 weeks estimated so I feel ahead and got more time to look for a New job. -
Received a contact for a new job today, 3 months notice if you want to leave, 1 if they make you redundant. Working hours are 9- 5:30, but evenings, weekends, holidays can be requested with no extra pay or time off. Recruiter recommended I sign it within an hour of receiving it, before I had time to read it, despite them taking over 5 days to get it to me. Suddenly my new job is soured.6
-
Manager: calls me on Wednesday and asks that have you moved your changes to UAT on Monday?, the client wanted to test it.
Me: Started looking for a new job immediately. -
Got a first job today! I'm still student, worked as freelance web dev for a few years already. BUT biggest problem with this new job that I supposed to use Windows :/ until now I used to use macOS and I loved it :/ I don't know how to feel, happy and sad at the same time...1

Cmon, just change your coding assignment to be enough to judge it...5 -
So my previous job primarily involved angular. Went out to find a new exciting job, and somehow, I ended up being this dude. The reverse hipster. I'm not even mad.9

i kinda wanted to rest a month or two is it a good decision or i should look for new one immediately10 -
It makes me so sad to see such vast amounts of copy and pasted code at my new job :(
3 identical classes with only a few strings different 😡1 -
I got a new job today! Back to a support role after being a university teacher and a contract trainer. I miss problem solving.
-
I was working as a web developer from 2 year. That was so difficult.
I just change my job to start in a new society last monday.
Not web at all. I'm learning a new langage. And I love it.
Maybe software development it what I must do.
Hopping keep this job.4 -
New job, new city, my job is very good & coworkers as well, but since I'm an introvert I'm not good at making new friends, I'm not socializing other than talking to my colleagues at during office hours. After office I come at my flat and do nothing wish I was good enough to have friend. Or some girl to hangout with its so lonely during weekends.3
-
When you get talked into a new job by a friend and leave your old one. Just to find out the new place is nothing as advertised and you dislike it more every second 💩

You know it's time to search for new job when you constantly feel like taking out wallet and mobile from bag and leave office and never return back

2nd week on a new job, already been assigned smaller Jira tickets to work on.
But it takes me awhile to figure it out and close the ticket, coz it’s React and I’m completely new to it and I feel I have no idea what I’m doing.

Do it.7 -
There is a job fair coming up next week and while i dont really want to find a new job, i thought this would be a good excuse to update my cv a bit.
My question is, do you have any templates/frameworks/anything you usually use for stuff like this? I always throw together some bootstrap page but i want to learn something new.1 -

In light of this week's topic - I need your thoughts. I am planning to quit my current job. In your experience, should I have another job before quitting or look for it full time. I just got my appraisal - will the salary at the new job match my increased salary or would it be the same. Note, I have only 1 year experience.6

I want a new job. Not because I want a new job, but all I want to do is tell my current team that they are a bunch of fucking morons and should kill themselves.3

I just started a new job where in my onboarding, I’m supposed to learn typescript and react. I am also supposed to gain some knowledge of databases. Since I am so new, I don’t really have any meetings. I see my manager maybe 2x a day. I’ve been using my time at work to learn these technologies.
I learn best by doing projects. I recently built a bot that scrapes media off of one site and posts it on another site. I was thinking I could create a react front end in typescript for the bit. I would also add a database to my project (the model for the front end) which contains the post history of the bot.
Would that be appropriate for work? I thought it would be good project to help me learn react. However, I am new to the “corporate” world and I feel like my manager won’t want me to waste company time on my side project.
The only other responsibilities I have are reviewing the source code and watching some onboarding videos6 -
How do you guys deal with looking for a new job while still working at your current job?
I’ve been having to sneak out of the office for phone interviews. Not fun…2 -
Is it considered greedy when you are accepting job interviews even though you decently love your current job, have decent work balance and benefits and your boss trusts you?
I kinda feel bad being curious on what other companies have to offer for my skills but I don't necessarily plan to accept any new offer.4 -

How many times does it happen that devs leave an old job to go to a "prestigious" new job only to end up hating it?
In my case I don't like my new job and don't want to go back to my old job(even if I did kind of like what I did there). I'm kinda stuck waiting for a certain minimum amount of time to pass so that I could go to some other company doing work that I actually like doing.6 -
Last day at the old workplace done ✔️
Now there's 5 weeks of freedom ahead before the new job begins. I can only advise all of you to go for one month of me-time the next time you change your job 😁 -
Anyone here that has experience with Honeypot.io? Seems to be an interesting way of finding a new job.. Or should we stay away from it?2

Migrating an existing report from old system to new.
Business: We reviewed the differences you raised and why they're acceptable and this seems fine. But before we provide approval for your productionization, we would like these changes...
*1 month later, changes are made*
Business: you reported new differences. We can't give you approval until you tell us explain them all
Me: `••π÷¶×¶π|``•√÷÷÷π√^°°¥®^¥€€!!!!!!!
Can someone give me a new job so I can just walk in, say fuck it, I quit!!!"
Sometimes I just want to do that now but getting a new job is hard.... for reasons unrelated to how well I can code... -
Im a php backend dev for over 7 years. (Lately mostly laravel).
Im going to look for a new job and have 2-3 free weeks to try and learn a new language and switch to that in my next job.
Please advise if i should
1. Switch to Python (should be relatively close to php oop) + opens AI jobs opportunity for the future.
2. Switch to NodeJs. (Web/api knowledge similar to php) + will be easier to learn frontend skills later (ie angular/etc)
3. Look for another PHP job. - if 2-3 weeks is not enough time to learn nodejs/python well enough to get an actual job without experience with them.
Really can't decide which path to take, please help10 -
The new job is sucking all of my motivation away. Been a while since I’ve did any coding just for fun. It’s tedious to even start learning new things after work.. how do you people deal with it?7

I am looking for a better job, to do that I expand my knowledge by learning new stuff after work. I do this to have a better live, but my relatives pulling me down...
My wife complains that I am always at work, even if I tell her I do programming as a hobby and I learn new stuff to get a better paying job.
In contrary my parents always say that I am lazy bum, because If man doesn't work with his muscles, they don't consider this as a real job.2 -
When you’re really tired of your job and just wanna leave. but have accepted a new position but have to wait on the background check...😣

For now I know pure js, jquery, java servlets, jsp, MVC5 and razor. I would like to learn something lean, new, powerful and useful in a job perspective. Any suggestions?9 -

Embedded programmer here, recently my job is nothing but android, web shit and webservices (no offense). i guess it's time to find a new job.

So I may be getting a great job offer by the end of this week. The best thing is that it's a remote company since start and they have proper documentation and processes.
The current company has no idea that I am planning to leave. And they are planning some things around me for this month.
Should I hint that I have a job offer hovering around. I don't see anything bad about mentioning that.
1) Even if I don't get the new job, current company might offer to increase salary and accept my demands.
2) I will be able to get out of current job as soon as possible when I get the new job. I don't intend to complete next September at current company.
Any thoughts? Is it wise to mention about leaving before I have confirmation of new job?7 -
