New job requires a lot of CLI and I have to start using Vim. Me right now when trying to exit:

I feel your pain. I used it under VMWare ESXi once upon a time. Having to jump back and forth between edit and command modes drove me nuts.

Many people love that editor, but I think you've got to have Asperger's to do so.

You'll learn to love it and won't be able to use an IDE anymore when you do.

I find it makes me much more productive and faster, especially when using Screen.

It becomes fun when you make mass edits in files. Brush up on regex skills and look like a pro hacking away in text files
