My team: gets fired
8 other colleagues: here’s our notice, we leavin
Love it, they’re left with 4 devs so good luck finding people who know how to work in your 20 year old legacy that every app in ur company is built on lul10 -
Fucked up an sql join once and accidentally deleted myself from the employee table in the prod database. So I kinda fired myself... Good thing we had backups. 😂2

Guess who refused the the request to return at work after being fired unfairly? After months they understood they're wrong and they need me or just they noticed that no one wants to work in those conditions?12
-
>we increased new releases to once a day
> wow, how'd you do that?
> fired the QA team

👋🏻 So, yesterday I thought I'd quit...
👠 Today it turns out I've been fired, and my resignation wasn't opened 😂 😂
🖕 Hannah from HR
In fairness I did literally say that to Hannah from HR yesterday in a sort-of-attempt to get myself fired, so... I'm not quite sure who wins...10 -
Now there was this meeting where our boss called our team to reach at exactly 8:00 . One minute more and you will be fired.
Turns out he himself reached at 8:15 for the meet. And we were just staring him, wanting to say, "Hey boss, you don't need to come anymore. YOU ARE FIRED."9 -
Looks like I'm getting fired on Wednesday :)
Long story:
*I add first unit tests to project.
*Boss adds new functionality and breaks all the tests so I can't compile and write more for what I'm working on.
*Boss is very fragile and cannot handle any comment that can possibly be taken as a slight against him.
Me: "I wanted to ask what our policy on unit tests is please? Because we haven't really said how we are treating unit tests, and everyone myself included is not thinking about them. I also haven't added tests when I fixed bugs and this time your changes broke the tests"
Boss 10 minutes later: "I want to speak to you in private".
Boss: "you are too forceful and direct. You said I should have added tests."
Me: "yeah but I didn't mean in a nasty way"
Boss getting louder and more aggressive: "You are too forceful"
Me: "I didn't mean it in a bad way"
Boss: "I didn't want to add tests for that!"
Me: "then why add any tests?"
Boss: "Fine we are not having this conversation now!"
*Boss storms out
I decided I can't speak to the guy about anything without upsetting him spoke to the manager before I quit because I can't work like this.
That resulted in a meeting with my boss, his boss and the head of HR where I ended up savaging him and told them I can't bring up anything as I can never tell if it will offend him and that I spend ages writing emails and trying to document communications because I just can never tell if I will upset him. Also that I cannot bring up any ideas because I can't tell if he will somehow get offended and that I can't even write code because if I change something he wrote at some point he will get angry.
My boss claims that I am extremely forceful and disrespectful and that I am constantly insulting him and his decisions.
We go back over a ton of shit and I refute everything he says. In the end I have to have a meeting with him on Wednesday where we either get things straight, he fires me or I quit.
I think at this point that our relationship is too fucked for him to be my team lead on a 6 man team.
Side note I keep bringing forth ideas because we have one database shared between 6 Devs, no pull requests (apart from mine and another new guy), no test driven development, no backlog, no team driven story pointing, no running tests before merging, no continuous integration setup, no integration tests, no build step on merge, no idea of if we are on track to our deadline other than his gut feeling, no actual unit tests backend - just integration with a test db, no enthusiasm to learn in the team and no hope.21 -
user is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.
This was what I saw on my first day at my job. I thought I was gonna get fired on my first day.1 -
So today I got removed from my freelance project because the client found out I listen to slipknot! What the actual FUCK? How the FUCK does it matter what I listen to?
And that cunt eater isn't willing to pay for the work I've already completed since "Slipknot is anti-Christian".
Burn in hell you piece of shit.21 -
I got fired.
Worst job I ever had, they extended my probation period, called me "over maintenance", said my work was good but not good enough for the effort, If I take a lot of care doing my work then it's "over preparation", if not good enough then it's "not detailed enough", I don't ask enough questions? I must be unmotivated, I ask too many? I take up too much of other people's time.
Fuck them all. I hope they get a taste of their own medicine.10 -
Boss: I need it done by tonight! Or you are fired!
* turns to laptop *
$> sl
* cries as the train passes :') *5 -
Drinking game: Take a shot whenever you’re staring at work and don’t feel like working.
Bonus game: try not to die or get fired.18 -
My manager promised to give promotion to me in this quarter, But yesterday he was fired by the company. :-(3
-
I was hired to create a MailChimp clone for internal use. Since then, more than half of the marketing team has been fired because their work is not needed anymore.14
-
Two people I know just got fired from their jobs because they were working on a project on their free time. One of them got a 10000$ fine aswell.
Apparently there was a small hidden clause in their contract that stated that any side projects, even on your free time, was strictly forbidden. Because it could be seen as competition.
Now that was, imo, a bit fucked up.20 -
So today I got let go from my job.
I've worked for this company for about 2.5 years, and soon after joining I became the only IT resource for software. I had to support literally everything after they fired the rest of the team, but I did a great job and have been praised by all the management at the company.
A few months ago, after a salary review and a frank discussion with my boss and his boss, they agreed that I am due for a raise. They had a massive project coming up with a lot of extra expenses, but I was told that right afterward they would be giving raises.
I spent tons of late nights and weekends on this project, and we were able to get it mostly finished about a 1.5 months ago. I was instrumental in the project (the rest of the IT team didn't even know how to set up simple DNS records). An email was sent to the whole company thanking me for all the work I put into the project.
A week ago, I messaged my boss to ask about the status of raises as he had told me they should be going out at the beginning of this month. He said there won't be any raises, and that's all I heard. Then today I get a call telling me that they are letting me go.
Let me get this straight: you led me on with talk of a raise just to keep me here working long hours for your big project, and then you fire me after recognizing what a great job I did? That's just sick. I have watched them treat other employees and partners unethically, but it took getting it first hand to realize how bad it really is. My teammates were in shock when I said I was leaving as they have all leaned on me very heavily.
Fortunately, I have had several offers come in over the last few months (2 this week) for more pay. I only held off because of the lies I was told about receiving a raise and out of a false sense of loyalty. I'm not worried about my future at all, just angry at the way I was treated.29 -
I really enjoy my job engineering high-traffic sites for a large adult network!
Watching pornsites @office every day (probably getting fired if I DON'T) and see the customers spending $$$ like crazy :)8 -
Well what the fuck. Life just won't stop with the dick punches this year.
To recap: My wife had me arrested on bs charges. While i was in jail, she packed her shit and left. She filed a restraining order, which i fought in court amd won. I have visitation with my daughter every other saturday and every Monday. I lost my apartment because she left, so I'm homeless. Living in my car.
Today, I was fired from my job of 6 years. Fuck me.16 -
we had this guy once, who we gave access to our private repo. everything's all good until we noticed that our amazon bill was USD 8,000+!!! we found out that lots of servers got created and that's bec. this guy forked our private repo and his fork was a public one. our keys were still not in .env files and were part of the commit so some bot got hold of it and accessed our amazon account. we suspected that the servers were used for bitcoin mining. anyway guy was fired on the spot and we also learned our lesson to keep keys out of repos.14

> Manager gives me new ticket.
> This seems like a ticket Dingus would do.
> Remember Dingus got fired a month ago.
> Realize I’m the new Dingus.4 -
Old rant : I was fired for complaning about the non-paid extra hours everyone was doing. The excuse : I was against "the culture" of the company.
I hate game companies...3 -
Got fired.
Fuck
3 days on the job...
Told on the interview I didn't know the machine OS but I could learn in a few days...
Well they want someone with experience on that machines I don't know...
It's like asking a Javascript programmer to work with Java...
Whatever...
There are more companies11 -
Well today was a good day, after getting fired from my last job I got awarded in my current one. feels good to be appreciated 🙂3

The proper use of comments is to compensate for our failure to express ourself in code.
Quote of the book "Clean Code" by "Uncle Bob".

VP: We're going to have HR join the call.
Me: Okay. *Shrug*
(HR Joins)
VP: I'm afraid we're going to have to let you go. I'll need you to return your laptop.
Me: Okay. *Shrug*
VP: ...
HR: ...
HR: Do you want to know why we're letting you go?
Me: Nah. Bye.
After five years of working in terrible conditions for terrible to mediocre people, I accepted losing my job without worry. In a way, I was thankful.
I wanted to quit so many times.
I'm much happier these days.6 -
What a week
On Monday I was promoted to senior and on Friday the other senior in my group was fired for gross incompetence.
FEELS GOOD MAN8 -
!rant
So, I lost my job a couple of weeks ago, and on a whim I decided to post an ad on a classifieds website advertising websites done cheap. Next thing I know I'm making money doing something I love as opposed to dealing with assholes at a checkout counter. I know the freelance life has its ups and downs but I'm happy!12 -
Today six friends of mine were fired, they didn't know about it, while they were working HR called them and fired them, CEO talked to me explaining reasons of their decision, trying to convince me. I don't care about reasons, its not about reasons, its about behaviors, people are not resources.17

Goal for my dev career future?
I'll soon be 53, my career goal is to make it to retirement without fired for some random biz-talk excuse for being too old.11 -
So at the end of last month our complete team was fired because restructuring in the company. We have had this countdown running since the first day we got the news. Ive made this photo yesterday so only 3 days and a few hours to go and then a month of sitting on the bench at my work (Im a consultant and work on project basis for other companies)4
-
Boss asked me to make a script to automate some tasks. After some days i found out that my task will replace the job of one of our colleagues.
Now the *script, that looks like a big project, is almost done.
Feel for the guy.13 -
Fucking fuck you fucking fucked up fuckery.
I got fired and signed mortgage at the same day. Well looks like next two months going to be fun.
Time to get drunk.20 -
Wish me luck, ranters. Tomorrow I start working in an IT company for the very first time. Hope I don't get fired very soon, freelancing is hard. And I still owe >1300€7
-
Got fired for taking the initial steps for higher studies . i.e. Writing an entrance test..
Not sure whether to be happy or to be sad..11 -
I was told in an 1:1, quite literally, "not everybody can do what they want to do if they are not good at it..." - get fucked! The person I had to "report to" was an idiot (at the same senior level as I was) and obviously threatened.
Then moved down to customer support, where I was fired for fixing problems faster than going through the chain of levels, because I was creating quick scripts to patch the faulty data.1 -
Got fired for asking for a restructuring of the workload and/or more non-foreign, in-office devs. I was the only dev for dozens of projects.7
-
So I have been working at the same company for five years, doing pretty much all the IT stuff. Sys admin, help desk, you name it. I've also developed a fair amount of in-house software for the company.
Today, I learned from a trusted source that they are actively interviewing people to replace me. I probably have a week, maybe two until I'm fired. To my knowledge I've done nothing to warrant this.
I've been looking around lately for a new job anyway, but without any sense of urgency. I have put in several applications with very few responses though.
I have 5 years experience doing this professionally and 15 total years of dev experience, but only a GED.
I'm not sure why I'm not getting any responses from my applications, but I'm pretty scared right now. I have a 5 month old baby, a wife and a teenager that all depend on me.
I don't know what to do...13 -
That would be the time when i got fired from my last job. Hosting company, it had lots of good stuff and bonusses, coworkers were great, i was doing really important stuff when suddenly, i got fired and replaced... 'You have a too strong personality, sometimes you're just too outspoken'... At hearing those words, i felt very sad. Took a few bottles of champagne from the fridge at work (they had those apparently a year already, nobody touched them)... I left the building, together with two coworkers who became friends, drank the two bottles of champagne... i was crying... Because i got smacked in the face due to my personality. Admitted i am an extravert, and i do dare to talk back when it's needed, always polite, but ensuring i was not agreeing. Still i did my job pretty well. I was practically the only one that was multi-lingual!
After that i became a freelancer. It was a good start, a lesser good intermission, but next month i am starting at a goverment department for long term, so future is looking good.4 -
Not specifically dev related other than being hired as a dev, more a corporate thing.
I have medical issues that mean I can be a bit variable in my starting time. Company was aware and floated flexible hours as a possible solution, but never said it *was* a solution, and just left it there really breezy.
Nailed this down with my line manager a couple weeks later after HR lost their shit, apologised and thought nothing of it.
Few days later I read a blog post about IP clauses in contracts that reminded me I intended to ask, as mine didn’t have one.
Asked HR, no response for like an hour, then “we’ll get back to you on that”
Following week, pulled into a sudden meeting. “Sorry for short notice of meeting, but we’re terminating your employment effective immediately for ‘lack of commitment’”.
Utter. Bullshit.
The day before, the company literally had a company day where they banged on about their values and how they wanted to support their employees and foster an environment for good health and good mental health.
No disciplinary proceedings. My line manager found out 5 minutes before I did.
I emailed a few colleagues afterwards and apologised, and they were stunned it had gone down the way it did.
I was so blindsided and angry in the meeting, especially after I believed I’d found a company that was actually different and cared.
And I did my work, I stayed late quite often, even produced a couple internal devops tools in my time there.
The kicker is that it was within the probation period, so I have literally no recourse for any action against them.
What’s the most bullshit corporate clusterfuck you’ve been through devRant?2 -
Awesome got fired bc i caught the vp cooking the books by a factor of 1.2, mistakenly notified him of an obviously incorrect algorithm bc i thought the previous dev made a mistake.13
-
I once got fired for being sick and show up at the office without doctor certificate, crazy thing i got better job same day then posted to LinkedIn haha1
-
I've been fired today and somehow it was an relief :)
As I know that I am pretty much the only one who knows how the infrastructure works and I am the only one who actively tried to get the company to a better level of coding (tests, code reviews, proper deployment / continuous integration,...) It somehow feels like that gif.10 -
I worked someplace once that fired a person for lack of quality output. Before that he sued the company over a labor dispute. After they fired him he went and founded his own business. A year later the company decided to recycle his old laptop to another developer and discovered the source code and business prospectus on it. The company took it to court and said it was actually their business because it was created on its own equipment and the time stamps confirm during business hours also. Courts agreed and they got possession of his business and then fired him again.6
-
After refusing to work over 40 hours a week and refusing to work last Sunday, today I was fired. It's been the 2nd time in my life and it's been the same deal: totally unrealistic timelines and totally unrealistic work expectations.
No big loss. Fuck that place.8 -
TLDR : Some dude was immediately fired by creating union. The email from the CEO of Sii Poland (one of the biggest software houses in the country) shocked the whole IT community14
-
RIP servers of https://robinsonsmovieworld.com//
I guess he must've gotten fired. It requests for the system time from the server, gets a response, and then displays it on the page.7 -
I was at a company for almost 5 years (my first job too). Got fired a few months ago by my mentor/the lead dev who was there for about 3 - 3 1/2 years of my time there. He left for better opportunities, he knew the company was pretty shitty to work for. He comes back (why???) and fires me about 1-2 months after his return.
Reason why, I'm unhealthy for the company and the company is unhealthy for me (not because I'm a bad dev, cool I guess). I don't disagree (a lot happened while he was gone, but he doesn't really know what happened) but this happens after I have a "discussion" with him about how I don't know how to prioritize my work anymore with new policies regarding billables and pms and management pushing me in multiple directions in regards to what I should be working on. (There's more to this but I'm trying to finish this rant eventually.)
I'm not surprised but I'm pissed at the company for never really improving and I'm pissed at him for drinking the kool-aid so to speak.
I want this company to fail. I'm surprised it hasn't. The place was a shit show when it came to the Dev department and my old mentors return didn't help much either.
I should get over it and move on but this place was like a toxic relationship I couldn't bring myself to leave (as much as I wanted to leave and knew I should). And there's so much to unpack with this place.
I'm hoping dev rant can be a good place to unpack the shit I dealt with there over the years so I don't burden my friends and family with my thoughts.
So yeah, hey ya'll and welcome to my rant(s).5 -
Fired because an metric they used was too small (accepted tickets). My problem was: everyone of the others took imidiatly the tickets, just to have them "in progress".5
-
While styling a website, I realise that I would be fired on the first day if I had a Web designer job

Co-worker: dude, I need your help!
Me: all yours.
Co-worker: can't fix that sh$t over here.

Err on line~~

Co-worker: duuude, how did you...???
Me: Better not look.
Co-worker: but I am curious to know, ya know
Me: promise not to scream, k?
Co-worker: I just hope it's none of your old-stylish jokes.
Me: oh dude, you know me for years, trust me, it's fine.
Co-worker: -_-5 -
i kinda got fired because they have no more work for me and i think i have a new job already, i haven't even grieved yet lol4
-
Holy fucking shit! What the actual fuck is this?!!!
The funny part: this is not the worst e-mail I got from them, the person who is responsible for these e-mails should have been fired 2 years ago.7 -
Someone put my name on a mailing list for pornographic material to try to get me fired from my new job6
-
Me. Everyday. I was actually fired for “unprofessional conduct.” Apparently screaming fuck at everyone and telling them to get fucked when they’re being stupid isn’t professional.
I like to think of my behavior as “informal.” 😉9 -
Was fired after 3 months. My boss said "how did you even pass engineering school?!"
I'm not a skilled programmer... and never will be!6 -
Today I got fired (I work for a outsourcing company and was the client that "fired me") and the reason was that the work load was low.... funny thing is that they contested a new dev for my team and she is staying only because she is in the same office as the main team and I'm on a different office.
How fucked up is this?29 -
We have a long time developer that was fired last week. The customer decided that they did not want to be part of the new Microsoft Azure pattern. They didn't like being tied to a vendor that they had little control over; they were stuck in Windows monoliths for the last 20 years. They requested that we switch over to some open source tech with scalable patterns.
He got on the phone and told them that they were wrong to do it. "You are buying into a more expensive maintenance pattern!" "Microsoft gives the best pattern for sustaining a product!" "You need to follow their roadmap for long term success!" What a fanboy.
Now all of his work including his legacy stuff is dumped on me. I get to furiously build a solution based on scalable node containers for Kubernetes and some parts live in AWS Lambda. The customer is super happy with it so far and it deepened their resolve to avoid anything in the "Microsoft shop" pattern. But wow I'm drowning in work.24 -
I like to play this game called "what's the absolute smallest amount of work I can do without getting fired", and it's a lot harder to play computer games in the office without the "getting fired" bit...12
-
My previous boss disappeared for a week and didn't tell us why. We thought the team was gonna get fired because of him and I even started looking for a new job. The team got fired, but they kept me for some other work.4
-
My coworker used to write code but never bothered with indents and nests. He got fired for not following the rules of the company. I know this sounds boring but w/e3

How easy is to get fired from a Dev job? 😛 I'm afraid of that happening every time I introduce a bug lol4 -
I have had this job for 2 years - my first real job. It has been very very stressfull for the last 6 months and it feels like everything is falling apart in the company. It's a small work place with only 6 people in total.
A week ago my boss wanted a meeting and I got a feeling on what the subject may be. I was right about my thought. I was being fired because he feels like everything is falling apart mainly because of me. Though, I don't feel the same way, I think more it's the whole team that failed.
But the most weird part. I'm getting fired, I then have 3 months left, though, he says that I can in those 3 months show my value for the company, and if he thinks that I again have value, I can stay.
Who the hell fires an employee and right after says, you can stay if you prove your value? I don't really feel welcomed here anymore.
My motivation have drastically fallen the last week and I'm just sinking more and more. Maybe it's a good thing to get away and get a new job that values me and doesn't stress me the hell up.
I've been the only developer for over half the time here and I can feel that.
I just had to get out with this, so thanks for reading my small rant about my shitty life :)8 -
I failed at 9 startups
Got fired from two companies
Quit three jobs without notice
Failed out of college
Lost all my money on a bad investment
And now I do not have any money.9 -
So I was coding a project that was left for me because the initial developer was fired (I didn't know why). When I was reading his code:
var saturday_sunday = week.day - 1;
Now I understand why he was fired.5 -
Although today Friday,
It was a very sad day for me, I just got relieved of my only remote dev job, now to unemployed, I have a wife and home to take care in a semi bankrupt country, I need help.
Do you know where I can get good remote contracts?18 -
while discussing interview topics with my team:
me: "describe how would you capture Ba Sing Se
lead developer: "What tf is that?"
me: "you're......fired.............."8 -
After getting a fund for my startup company as a PHP Developer, they changed the app to Django and fired all the Technology team. (O_o)7

On chat today.
Dude: can you run a script for me? We don't have permission.
Me: what kind of script? Who wrote it?
Dude: posts screenshot of DML select/update statement he tried to run.
Me: I'm a DBA. We don't run DML for people.
Dude: Oh. Can you give me the password?
Me: examine script and notice he tried to run it on QA DB.
Me: No. We don't memorize passwords, and this is QA; you need to check the password out of the safe. You also need a change ticket to DevOps, and they will run it for you.
At that point I ended the discussion, because running anything in QA or Prod without a change ticket gets you fired. And I like my job. Really annoyed.3 -
Call it like you see it:
TF30063 : You have been fired quietly, or the Microsoft authentication system is down (again.)1 -
Me: “We should use WordPress so the marketing person doesn’t have to wait weeks to get on our dev schedule to make simple edits.”
Boss: “You’re fired for even suggesting we use WordPress. We are more pure than this.”
Me: *leaves company*
3 years later, company uses WordPress after boss who fired me is also fired.13 -
You think HTML isn't a programming language? Tell that to the guy wrote js to check if a hidden div contained the word True inside its tag before it fired.12
-
On the gitlab incident livestream description on youtube I noticed this:
"No, nobody was fired"
Yeah right. They probably beat him, raped him, burned him, crucified him, raped him again. But no there were no firing involved.9 -
When you and your superior get done with a project, and your superior almost gets fired so he's panicked and you're like "SEE WHAT I MEAN!!!!"
Previously:"Come on man!! 20 minutes adventure, in and out." -
To the remote dev who ghosted me right after we discovered a major bug in your code, and whom we paid up front for development, thanks for nothing.
You’re fired.6 -
Working on a 6 months long project with delivery scheduled in one more month.. Now my manager says we either ship it in 6 dev days or he gets fired.8
-
Friend is getting fired by the end of the month. Can't say anything, all my attempts to help failed, it's fucking killing me inside.8
-
Got fired today. For unprofessional behavior and insubordination. Neither of which are true. Someone in her general vicinity tell Natalie to get fucked.8

I am working on a project that integrated with Microsoft Dynamics. The D365 team changes the data and API too often. I keep munging the data over and over so that it fits view models.
Yesterday I had a technical discussion with someone that the company installed to coordinate building technical solutions that get shared between projects. This is a problem across all of our Dynamics projects and is a technical one than needs coordinated approach.
The management heard that I am “doing repeated work because the data isn’t stable.” So they decided that it must be a problem with the project manager. The executive decides to use it as a reason to fire him. Which shows me that I can’t talk to even a technical person without risk of project chaos.
After the conversation but before the firing I get an offer letter from another company. I plan on taking it to get away from this crazy company. The project is going to lose their key web developer and also the project manager.
This executive seems to love firing project managers. My other project is on its third PM. My trust for the upper management is basically gone. I can’t even discuss the technical hurdles with a technical person without someone getting fired. I’m so ready to be out of this zoo.
The only downside of leaving is that I won’t have as many stories to tell on devRant.1 -
Sooo...
Got Fired...
By the same fucking company who is responsible for my burn out.
Should I be Happy or Sad? No matter how I loved the company I can only expect more abuses... On the other hand, If I made a few complaints, I couldn't get fired now...
Anyhow...
This weekend (can't remember the day, It was the day I took two victans, 20's beers and the same join I would smoke in a whole week ... (It worked, so...) I posted lots of really bad shit on facebook about the company... true Shit, but you know... Truth doesn't matter.
Today got a letter ending my contract on the term of the current one... less than one month from now.
So.... Lets See...
At least this pushes the time I have to start making Apps to get some money.
Just lacking the energy and will...5 -
Half fact: Code reviews help to maintain clean codebases.
Full fact: Code reviews are a way to find out who secretly wants you fired.4 -
Fired my front end developer as they were taking months to develop a simple web site.
I did it in 30 minutes1 -
My boss was fired and now I have to answer to his boss. "I have this issue with your product, can you make it mire idiot prood?" Well, sure, we just didn't met so persistent idiot up to now...2

Our company wants us to fill out monthly surveys to tell managers how happy we our at work and to give them feedback. The survey will not be anonymous as they asked us to self identify.
Also the company is small (just over 100 people) and over 1/3rd of staff have been fired over the past year.
Yeahhhhh, how about no4 -
I mentioned earlier that I did well in a tech screen. It was 2.5 hours long.... Now they want me to do another 2 hour interview. How am I supposed to find a job while working without getting fired? ? ?2
-
So i got fired from a company with has a name similar to a burning forest.
I guess this is going to burn down someday as well.
I got fired for a shitty ass reason that doesn’t even make sense.
Just clarifying, i didn’t do drugs, no smoking or drinking or harassing anyone or cause fraud (frankly i wasnt senior enough to do one)
And the worst part, atleast 500 other people (these are all the ones that i shared an office floor with), also did it, and weren’t even investigated.
Join google, facebook, join any company you want, dont join this shithole.
Being frugal my ass, its just another term they have for being cheap.
Also people who are working there and are happy, wait till it happens with you!6 -
Does anyone else get crippling fear anytime your boss wants a 1 on 1 meeting?
I always assume I'm getting fired and panic over it..even though so far that's never happened.12 -
To quote Charles Bukowski:
"and when nobody wakes you up in the morning, and when nobody waits for you at night, and when you can do whatever you want. what do you call it, freedom or loneliness?"
I always have tendency to fall into feeling lonely and abandoned, but these days my life is tossing some of the wildest curve balls more than ever before.
The latest one yet just happened this Monday. My manager quit and there was no knowledge transfer, and it was not on the good terms with the company.
Now I'm the only member of my team, and I have to take care of some of the projects that I've never worked on.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not setup for failure, and there are no expectations for me to know how everything works, quiet the opposite. But working with our clients and debugging the projects that I literally setting up on the fly had been a rollercoaster.
Second time in this company I will be looking for a manager in my department, and teaching them how everything works. Fun times.. fun times never change..5 -
Great to be back on devrant after so many months. I just got fired from my first dev job which took most of my time and energy and gave me back weight gain and some react and Node.js knowledge.
It feels so good to be free. I never liked web development anyway.4 -
To the people who have been fired at a job. What were the reasons you were fired? Was it because you couldn't finish something or other reasons?6
-
Just got fired from a second dev house in a row due to staff reduction and lack of projects. I should have chosen to be a carpenter instead...3

I just got fired. I don't know if I should laugh or cry, I'm finally free from that slow, obscure, shitty 20+ old dated system, but man, it really sucks to be fired.2

all the fun people at my workplace have either been fired or they have left. my workplace is bone dry now3

I worked with guy who was a teacher at bootcamp for 2 years already. He was fired after 2 months of juniorship at software house, because he couldn't do anything properly. I think it tells everything.

Not fired, but shot by my college, if I create a ticket that our software-ui isn't rendered correctly with font size 721

Worst Team work fail...
I was hired to a Steel werehouse to join a team of two...
One month latter I was working alone while my coworkers spent their time on the bathroom watching manga and playing rpgs on their android phones...
One year latter I was fired, got Hurt because of the heavy weight (Steel weights a lot) and because I was a temp they just fired me (toke me a year to recover)
Two months latter both my coworkers were fired.. Guess that without me the work didn't do itself...
Wish I knew back them they couldn't fire me while I was Hurt...
Oh and I didn't complain about my coworkers because I don't like to talk bad about others...
No matter.... Got a better job latter on and the company lost clients... So fuck you smart ass engineer.... -
The day tours would like be fired would be like:
Boss: how have you done that job?
Me: <<taking glitter from my pocket while i describe a arc>> It's Magic
Then you unlock the "you got epicly fired" achievement -
Most emotional day?
My friend/colleague getting fired out of the blue!
I was so pissed I immediately tried to resign, but they convinced me to calmly reconsider in few weeks. That would be right about now...2 -
Well, just got laid off. My 2 cents: Dont open recruitment sites at work, even an email in your personal inbox.
The worst part is they took the first blow before I quit, and it fucking hurts.12 -
Almost 4 years at the current startup which never really took of... (50ppl)
They fired 4 VP's at once: Product,R&D,Support,Finance.
Got an offer from a very successful startup (+400ppl)
Would you stay or would go?4 -
A company here fired 17 ppl on 1 day notice. A friend was also one of the affectees. He told me and I raised out the issue on Facebook and Linkedin and got quite a response from the community.
Sad part is, my current employer fired me for defamation and false claims.3 -
Got let go / fired today. I was still on my probation period, but they are going to pay me out for the next 2 weeks.
My boss wasn't even in the call "because he's in a sales meeting".
You know you are being let go when you don't have access to any company passwords, and they don't assign you any new work.
Well, onto something new. But first going to relax and catch up on my sleep.2 -
Now that I think about it, as soon as I reinstalled DevRant, I got fired like 3 weeks later. Coincidence? Debating uninstalling for my new job now 🤔7

Every time i got fired. So thats 6. At least in the past ten years. Every time i saw colleages get fired. So double that. Every 10nth job interview i went to. Maybe i should say i doubt my dev future every single fucking day.5

Tldr: I think I made a company fire some dev a year ago.
I was working for this company remotely, alone, on a very big and old legacy php project where they still used echo '<code><code/>'; and i was a very junior junior front end developer, needed to make the website work somehow (whole new design). They brought in a random guy to work with me, and we started working.. I was using bitbucket to version my changes, and I asked him to do the same. He tried pushing his changes once and then practically never again because he started working in files that i was working on and there were git conflicts, and he gave up, even though i asked him to do that... he then statted using general classes to style the page (like .color) with absolute positioning and it broke everything everywhere. He then proceeded to minify half of the php files 'because of performance', I remember talking to other few people in the company and he disappeared a few more days later. I never finished the project because they stopped it randomly and i think i got him fired even though he could've continued working in the company -
Grass is always greener on the other side.
Whatever your problem.. my advice:
Time to get a new job! -
WHY DONT I GET FUCKING FIRED. I BEG TO GET FIRED. PLEASE FUCKING FIRE ME U DIPSHITS IM NOT EVEN DOING A GOOD JOB HERE AND IM NOT LEARNING ANYTHING USEFUL. HOW CAN A FUCKING DEVOPS JOB BE TO 24/7 CONSTANTLY RUN LINUX COMMANDS AND LITERALLY NOTHING ELSE HELLO????20

Have you ever had to fire someone? or get someone fired?
I’m thinking about a time when I should have made sure a guy was fired.
He had no business leading a project, and I knew this early on when he suggested connecting a public frontend straight to a clients’ ERP.
I wasn’t on his project but I ended up cleaning up his mess when shit hit the fan.2 -
Monday is already going. I got the news a coworker is fired for selling company data.
What a shitshow this company is and how does it still exists1 -
Have any of you ever lost your job because you couldn't meet a deadline? ( The reason being because you didn't have enough experience to fix an issue so you could deliver on time) How did you bounce back?6

True story: I got fired once for leaving placeholder text that was replaced by an Ajax call anyway.6

Meeting for a warehouse job, where computer skills were required...
Worked 9 months there.
Me and boss was fired, he had very personal Wird ideias... And cause was a know it all never asked, never researched...

"You are fired!"
Is what I wanted to sent to all clients and third parties involved in the project. Stop making your problems my problems. My systems are ready, properly tested and well documented. Stop changing the requirements and stop adding requirements until you are sending valid requests to my API.1 -
So new job and my superior is someone that keeps on writing really bad code. Whenever I point it out to him I can tell he's annoyed. Dont want to get fired after a week of working here :(6

Me wondering why my boss still hasnt given me approval for an e.ail i sent a week ago
Oh he got fired2 -
one of my previous employers would just box up your stuff, if you were fired or transferred. Once, a teammate came back from lunch to find her stuff boxed up and thought she was fired, when she'd actually been promoted to another team for a job she'd applied to months before1

Workers work just hard enough to not be fired and owners pay just enough so that workers won't quit. 😅2

I am scared :< every day our boss comes in and blames someone that he did some shit.... He Never came to me... maybe he think I'm not working... Should do some issues too or I get fired :O3

My Project Lead got me to work overtime, I was doing 150% of what I was supposed to do.
After 4 months of tremendous working and smart planning, I planted a small bug in the software we build, and used that to exploit the Software yesterday morning, and today by 3 PM (Our Usual. Lunch Time), He was fired.
Finally, that donkey is fired and now he must rotten in hell, yeah, he got that stamp on his resume for being fired.
Now I am feeling guilty that I have almost ruined his career (30%), but I am happy, that rascal got what he deserved (70%). Yay!4 -
The computers and network seem to be CRAWLING today. Which is great, gives me plenty to time to imagine the many ways I could get myself fired for doing the deployments the way I am. 😅💀

Been at the same company for 2 years, this has been the worst day, hands down. Probably going to be fired soon, or end up quitting. Yaay more time for personal projects, yaay not having money.2
-
I am convinced that after this years-over-timeline millions-over-budget website goes live we will all be fired because it is dog shit.1
-
This is just funny more then anything 😂
This guy has been fucking up non stop!
He did something incredible, we gave him precise EXACT instructions you couldn’t mistake them
What does he do? Everything wrong.
Granted what he does, works, but... it will take me hours to do what I want to do with the data, if he did it the right way, minutes!
All I wanted was all the active products for this company and their links on the site. He creates an export I can convert to google xml shopping.
What does he do? create over a 100 export buttons one for each supplier so it’s right but it’s all products for that supplier in one file.
So I can do my bit if I just combine 100 files together 😂
It’s funny because there’s already an export that does the exact thing we want just without all the right fields. This is what we asked.
He just needed to duplicate that and add more fields 😂 we think he’s doing it on purpose to be a dick 😂 no one can be that dumb.
I’m laughing cause it’s fucking ridiculous. He’s gonna get fired soon, and he knows it. -
This friend of mine accidentally deleted client data in their production database, DBAs gotta work paid overtime to fix the mess...at least he only got away with a written warning. Dude coulda been fired on the spot
-
So, apparently the female front-enders won't get fired even though they submit works that even doesn't meet up close to the requirements.
Management want to keep good PR.

This year, 28 employees left my company or got fired. Currently, there are 28 still employed. In the start of the year, around 35 people were employed.
That's just impressive8 -
If your boss is lately suddenly being a giant prick to you, then you're likely going to get fired.3

Just told the dev I'm pseudo mentoring for like a week or two about devRant...here's to hoping I don't get fired!

Right, just put next doors new garden furniture and gas fired barbecue stove on ebay... fancy a new iPhone XS. 😀3

My friend from work got fired today for no apparent reason by his stupid boss to make things even worse this was his last action before changing a position in company and loosing power to fire someone. There is at least one good thing in all of this: he won't be able to do this again. Fuck stupid bosses.3

Rant
The rumour goes that, with meetings with the highest staff, attendees lay their tokens (to enter the building) on the table in case they get fired and have to leave that very moment.
I once had to attend such a meeting as a simple application engineer. They had heard I could "do stuff with SharePoint".
The part about the tokens was a myth but that people get fired right away was not! One did get fired! I shit bricks back then. Especially when I got asked something very ridiculous and impossible... how would I say no?
Luckily I came up with an alternative.
But Damn. .. glad I left that place -
Making sure you can't be fired 101:
The docs for your code should closely resemble that creative writing assignment you turned in a week late in college. -
I AM SO ANGRY! Today my job fired me for the stupidest reason!! A while back I lost my job a (non-important) client for having an "overactive temper" so my boss made me begin taking VRTAM (or virtual reality therapy for Anger Management). Well I attended the first couple things but decided to stop because they were definitely stealing my information. I don't know what sketchy website they found for that but as a dev I can tell when they are taking my personal information. Also there's no way it works I attended a couple sessions and nothing helped because I DONT HAVE ANGER ISSUES!!! Anyway my job found out I had been skipping them and when they confronted me they avoided my concerns and just fired me... Haven't told my wife yet, she's going to be so mad.8
-
statics: just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should. now I get to spend my day cursing the guy who hired me 4 years ago, and who was fired 2 years ago, for his turrible design choices.1

DevRanters, Have you witnessed a mass layoff in your company where you weren't the one getting fired? If yes, what was it like?16

I have been seeing double info and shitty margin on my Facebook feed...someone is going to get fired lol

To not get fired. I'm a student at the best high school in my country, so it's really unusual that I work besides school. I want to prove that it's not only possible but beneficial. I already learned a lot, but if I won't get fired, I'll be close to senior level by the time I start working full-time, which will help a lot with university.1
-
I was asked to pretend to be an expert to solve a temporary solution for a client in my company. I agreed because I thought it would be a simple solution.
I was wrong.
They only gave me 4 days to train (Including my f*cking weekend) and the project requires a much more experienced consultant since I'm struggling even with the simplest of tasks. Also, the person who was suppose to help me it's not always available. And they are not actively searching for a new expert.
Today I'll talk to my team lead and the person in charge of the project and let them know that this task will require someone much more experienced.
I may get fired but at least my conscience will be clear.
I just feel bad for the client. They are such nice people.7 -
Hi all,
I'm in this company for about 15 months. It's one of the big name company. I'm a senior dev here. In my team we follow agile development. In starting I was just working on my part mostly. Then my manager raised concern to me for not taking ownership and helping others.
I started doing things what I could do. Like code review, API discussion, design discussion etc..
Now, the thing is I usually get upset when people go with 'lazy' solutions because I feel bad design leads to maintenance overhead, and it happened to us in past. We had to spend weekends to make things work. So, I started making code review, design review strict.
Some people didn't like it. But my manager was supportive, or at least I think so.
Some days back manager took me in a one-o-one discussion and told me one of the colleague kinda complained against me.
Now, my manager is not involving me into design discussions and API discussions. There are some new features are coming and I am not informed. I get to know things only in scrum-updates.
Am I about to get fired? I'm not gonna lie, I'm so scared. I can't put down papers as I'm already into 4th company in 7 years.
This thought is just killing me. What should I do? I'm so alone.7 -
I was terminated last year from BigTech. Will I ever get another job in another BigTech company?
Not a layoff. Terminated for moonlighting. Lack of judgment on my part. Trying to move past this but the events still haunt me till this day.
Not looking for sympathy. Rather, advice on how to approach job search and background checks in the future. I have big ambitions and don’t want to be an IC forever. I’m hoping this doesn’t prevent me from becoming a manager —> Director in the future.3 -
When that person you can’t stand finally gets fired vs once you realize you now have all their responsibilities plus your own.1

Are you guys looking out for job change given that the recession is coming and people are getting fired?6
-
Best experience? My homie @lordbarnhill and I stumbled onto the solution for installing OpenSocial #Drupal8 properly on Pantheon hosting.
Worst experience? Creating a website for a radiology group only to get fired with 3 days left until launch. The "new" developer turned out to be their IT guy in house took 2 months to launch. The experience up to the point of getting fired was excruciatingly detailed and filled with ope creep. -
Last position has me paranoid. Kept my cube mate in the conference room after the staff meeting. That's how me getting fired off my last project started.
-
So I finished a side project at a cost of my company time. Now I'm panicking to get shit done before I get fired but also glad that I finally made something in 2018. THIS FEELING IS SO CONFLICTING!!!
-
I was running a for loop about primary number finder then i forgot my laptop at home.
3 days later i fired my home and i'm a homeless now.1 -
Recruiter either quit or got fired right after my job interview. It took me two weeks to find out i blew the job interview.

For an web app suggest sub-domains instead of directory structures. Got escalations, not fired, then I quit my job.

What happens if i quit my job or get fired? Am i never allowed to apply to work in that company again or can i apply in the future?5
-
Released the product to customers without realising someone had pre-filled a production test accounted login at the login screen. Obviously it was used for testing purposes and the dev forgot to remove it before committing.
I loled when I found out about it, and some customers started to login and made transactions.
When I checked the commit history... It was under my name :/2 -
Goals for 2019:
-Try not to get fired for writing trash code
-Get a new job (maybe :/)
-Work on my own project that hopefully takes off -
So we had a new platform guy start this morning.
*2 hours later*
They fired the only previous other platform guy. Well this'll end well... -
Management fired the catfish hire!

So our code gets released on Monday. Do you guys think I survive another week and not get fired?
It’s Friday. Survived another week. I feel like Monday is like my last day. I feel every day is my last day at work.
Well for many reasons which are true. Rewording my review so that I don’t get fired prematurely:
Sucks at Jira, does not do many code reviews, lot of technical debt. There is more... -

the red haired girl and the blue haired girl.
there was this story about a programmer who spent years studying computer science before finally getting a job.
the dev studied only computer science and was put on blue team after a few days.
a few hours into one of the constant coding sessions, the boss told the devs that red team members and blue team members would be working in pairs.
the person from red team transferred the devs work to their data base without the dev knowing, then locked down the devs computer. the dev could not do anything. later, the dev got fired for not doing any work. after that, the company got millions of dollars, and the dev did not see any of it.
both the dev and the managers made a note not to hire any programmer who cannot secure their work.
it is not ethical to teach people programming without also teaching them cyber security.
computer networking, programming and security should all be the same major.
it is a bad idea to teach people how to build anything without telling them how to secure it.
the story above was just a scenario, but it probably happens way more often than people think.
Schools should teach both things in the same major.5 -
Guide to transition to Junior to Med level? I am scared if I don't do well within my first year of working here. I am going to end up being fired? Any advice?1
