I learned a valuable lesson today about the life of a manager. I’m not a manager, but I am a senior level dev.
Today I was told there wasn’t room on the new team for 1 person, and I had pick that last team member. I had to choose between a friend who really isn’t cut out to be a dev and a non friend who is a better dev.
I talked through my reasoning and ultimately chose to put the friends job in jeopardy. They told me that I had solid leadership traits for being able to separate my emotions from my decision making. But I felt like a piece of shit.
I cried back at my desk. The friend doesn’t know yet and I can’t tell them. Is this what execs feel when they have to let people go?11 -
I don't work for Walmart, but they almost put my job in jeopardy today. I have a console app in production that pushes Walmart orders from their marketplace into our system for fulfillment. For half a year, I have handled thousands of orders, but overnight, all customers were getting massive price cuts on products in the Walmart feed! I looked at the data and initially thought it was my error due to using a quotient instead of a product in the code. But upon closer inspection, some fool at Walmart had changed code on their end without telling my team! Broke all the things. Lucky we were able to pull a full stop before we lost disgusting amounts of money, but you would think that a big player like Wally would at least announce a breaking code change to their users. 😲😡1

I played around on the school computers, creating "viruses" and stuff to log my friends off their computers, or open command prompt infinitely 😂 I also tried to make a Jeopardy game with batch for a project. Let's just say I should have used PowerPoint

Devrant Jeopardy - 2 - 10 points
This data structure, whose name was inspired by a town of good winds, was introduced as a competitive algorithm that sacrifices some memory for a timely, “inception”-like representation.19 -
Hi everyone... first time posting....Ive been struggling at work and have failed to finish multiple tasks given to me... I fear because of this, my job will be in jeopardy. Although I ask for help, it seems I am still unable to finish the given task. This leads to me believing I'm not smart enough or cut to be a software developer and also lead me to think that it's better if I just quit as I'm just dead weight for my team. I'm not sure what to do.6

Inspired by an overheard conversation (partial) among some of my co-workers:
I'm going to make an app that takes a speech sample, either text, or audio file, and accurately gauges the speakers' ages based on the number of times per minute the word "restaurant" is used.1 -
The company I work at severely limits the days we can take off, like most requests I put in will be denied. Additionally, I don't get paid that well or even get paid for time off or holidays. Obligatory: the job I work at currently is co-op, I'm still in college.
Yesterday and today I was severely burnt out so I said I was sick when I wasn't really so I could get some (unpaid) time off. It's likely that the current release we're targeting at work will be in jeopardy because of this. I feel so guilty, should I be? I really needed this time, I doubt I could have continued much longer without this.
TLDR, please help me justify not giving a shitty job my unconditional 100% and being shitty back every once in a while2 -

I joined several online forums and communities, where I read about the success others had found with Bitcoin. Their testimonies inspired me to take the plunge. With careful research and strategic investments, I managed to turn my initial investment into $250,000.The financial success brought a renewed sense of purpose and stability to my retirement. However, this newfound prosperity also attracted the envy of someone close to me: my financial advisor, whom I had trusted for years. Unbeknownst to me, he had been monitoring my success closely. One evening, while I was cooking supper, my financial advisor accessed my phone and changed the passwords to my accounts, attempting to transfer my Bitcoin to his wallet.
