I've got an idea for a site I'd like to make, nothing complicated, just a little project to open source and show what I can do. I primarily use Rails and React, but this project could be done in just React with a Firebase (or similar) backend. My question is, do I make a Rails API just to show some of my rails code, or go with what I'd recommend a client do and go with Firebase? Thoughts?

Lead developer wants to put SQL statements in to records of the database for the code to execute (in Rails). This smells really bad to me, am I over reacting?

Years of mandatory corporate IT security training has taught me not to open this car, its probably a virus.

Received a contact for a new job today, 3 months notice if you want to leave, 1 if they make you redundant. Working hours are 9- 5:30, but evenings, weekends, holidays can be requested with no extra pay or time off. Recruiter recommended I sign it within an hour of receiving it, before I had time to read it, despite them taking over 5 days to get it to me. Suddenly my new job is soured.

When you have over 10 years experience... and nothing to show for it due to closures, redesigns and private work.

We recently took over development of an app. Upon inspection the API had no security, and passwords were stored in plain text. While the manager was slightly concerned, it wasn't a big deal....

That was until, using only a browser, I found the bosses account and personal email address.

Minutes later I was in his gmail, Facebook and credit cards account.

Improving security is now concern #1, and my boss is "suffering" 2 factor authy on everything.

No matter how many years experience you have, a part of your job will always be copy and pasting malformed client data in to a useable format.

Not my own bug, but at our sister company there is a PHP developer who almost gets fired twice a year, once when the clocks go forward and once when they go back again. He can't program dates well, or use stack overflow apparently.
