Chatting on Slack with a junior dev:
[Junior Dev] How do I get that file from the server ?
[Me] ssh into it and then use scp
I see Junior across the room, literally saying "shshh..." at the computer.
Packed my stuff and quit that day.12 -
R: Random ass recruiter on LinkedIn
Me: me
R: Hey I was searching for X skill and your name popped up first. Would you like to work for our company? It's an urgent position with good pay and awesome latest tech
Me: I quit that very company 5 months ago, because the pay was low and the tech was from the 1990's.
R: :/
Me: :|
PS: I'm not 100% sure of this, but based off the tech stack, I'm pretty sure it was for the same fucking position I quit from.4 -
Oh the project is almost finished?
Here's another feature the client requires before it can be released.
Me: Okay this will take another 2 weeks to implement. Is the client happy with that time frame?
PM: You have 3 days and there's no test time, so test as you go.
Me: .....*quits*
True story, was the last straw.6 -
Today is my last day at this job.
Can't tell you how happy I am to be leaving this place in about 7 hours.
Starting my new job in January, so I get 4 weeks of nice vacation/ family time.8 -
So the head developer at my company quit, and I was chosen to replace him. I haven’t even graduated college yet and am already leading development at a company with over a million active users. Is this real life?14
-
friend: what are those lines on your screen
me: programming
friend: but like don't you program it
me: yeah but I have to write it
friend: but like don't you have to program the lines
That's when I quit trying to explain it5 -
So you detected that I wrote quit but oh no instead of actually quitting I get to know I have to write quit()10

I quit my job today for a better one! It was my first job after graduation, been there for 2.5 years so it's a big step for me.
Wish me luck on my new job! :-)5 -
I quit my job today, after 2 years as a developer. I can't remember the last time I felt so peaceful. I've yet to decide what I'll do instead. Wish you all the best, adios!5
-
Not only the manager/developer ratio is insane, but they are complaining about their top dev is getting an extra special status .. I just wish he sees this and quit immediately.15
-
Stupid tech guy: "You should use Windows, it's bettter"
Me: "No i quit Windows and use Linux"
At the end of the day he updates Windows and got a BSOD...
I laughed and walked off8 -
Have multiple and some server related but hereby:
I forcefully quit php on the server I use for devRant related stuffs because I wanted to quit the bakgrounded php process I had running for the dns proxy thingy since I somehow couldn't find the pid.
Two days later I noticed that none of my sites on that server where running anymore and started looking at nginx error logs.
It took me way too long to figure out that I had PHP-FPM installed which runs as a service and by forcefully quitting php the other day.... Yeah, you get it I think.
Started the process again and remembered that one 😅 -
Just realized there is a 'Reply' button in devRant.
...
...
I always memorized the username, quit the comment window twice to spellcheck..3 -
Quit my first dev job. Don’t have another gig lined up. Here’s hoping I find another gig before I run out of savings.
Wish me luck, folks.20 -
Yea so I was creating registration form and I did this:
...
if ($pass != $passrepeat or
$passrepeat != $pass) {
# MAGIC
}
...
I think I should quit being a programmer..13 -
So, continuing with the story, I decided to quit today.
I'm not even a month there, and I'm running out of there in flames.
I've got 2 panic attacks in one week, I'm not sacrificing my mental health for some idiot's scam.6 -
I look at this nowadays so often during office just that I don't quit this fucking job all because of work load and dumbass and asshole manager4
-
I quit my job, moved back home and will be studying my butt off and creating an impressive portfolio for the next 6 months to get a dream 100k+ remote job.16
-
Just lost the love of my life. I really thought we were soul mates and now she quit the relationship after a half year. I was even planning my proposal already. I never felt so bad in my life.9
-
After a long thought I have decided to quit my job and work on my side project😎
Who else is tired of these shitty managers who don't understand anything!!6 -
After working over 14 years as it-systemadministrator and developer for a city government I finally quit today and switched into a start-up. Lower wage, vacation days and many more "downsides"...but I am allowed to follow my passion and create something that matters. I'm afraid and super jacked. Wish me luck :)
tl;dr quit job to get complete expression. afraid and jacked at once :)5 -
Ugh, fxk. I got a promotion, I'm now a team lead for 4 developers, and I fxking hate it.
They never asked me if I wanted the position, they just threw me into it this week. They ripped me away from the team I had great chemistry with and put me on this other team with people I have no connection with.
To make matters worse, I'm also responsible for production servers of the clients of this team, one has malware even.
On top of all of this, they made me move desks for a new developer to fill my spot.
How do you demote yourself? Why would a company want someone to perform poorly (on purpose, I don't care) than to just keep their employee happy?
/end rant14 -
I quit my job last week and I’m starting as a full time mobile developer in January. I’m so goddamn excited.
With no university degree, I’ve finally gotten an in as a developer!8 -
!dev
I quit.
+5 years of working with violent autistic teens. I've seen, heard, and been a victim of some pretty fucked up things. Today however, I watched the cutest little hamster (her name was brownie) stabbed to death for no reason. Time to reevaluate my life, I quit & I'm going back to school.11 -
So I quit my job and am currently serving my notice period. I do the hiring for my team (lead dev). Today I got an email from a recruiter trying to recruit me for my current role ....6
-
Made up my mind to quit my new job yesterday. Im constantly bored. Either I have no work assigned no matter how much I ask for more, or I get handed work where the solution is already identified.
Obviously gonna find a new job first, wish me luck!8 -
Make enough passive income to quit my job, live in the mountains and develop something i like without feeling guilty for not using the time to work on money yielding projects instead.9
-
Last day on my current job before switching to a new company.
I have 10 tasks on my "to finish before leaving" list.
Finished one task and showed it to my boss.
I now have 13 tasks on my "to finish before leaving" list.
Do you want to get people to quit? Because that's how you get people to quit.2 -
I feel a bit bad.
My family left for the weekend sonim all alone at home.
I told everybody else not to bother me so could code.
Instead i went to buy soda, sandwich food, beer, papers and smokes (i quit smoking 6months ago ;)) and played video games for the last 2 days.7 -
After quit from Facebook and other social medias for 6 months, I think I found my place ! Thanks devRant !5
-
Well let's do this group rant thing.
I had to build 5 responsive Web applications in 3 weeks. Again Web applications, not websites. I slept a total of 2 hours per night in my car, and would go home every 3 days to shower.
I quit soon after.5 -
Today I quit my job lol.
In my two previous stories I told you guys about a job offering I got, and after a few more incidents in my old job, I decided I take it.
No, this is not an april fools joke, though it felt quite bad to tell my team lead that I quit on april fools day.
Due to notice period I'll begin my new work at first of july this year, can't wait <33 -
I lost motivation and focus on the company where I worked for 12 years.
And after 12 years I quit my job last week.
I'll work for a new company next month.
And I won't wait another 12y if I won't be satisfied or disrespected.
Never give up.4 -
Started new job with presentation at 10:00. Went for lunch at 11:00. Was given access to source code at 12:00. Decided to quit at 13:00.
No regrets. Code was so bad that I wanted to cry.7 -
A friend offered me a new job in his company. Therefore I am going to quit my job. I like my current job, but the conditions are shit. Still I like my colleges and my clients. So I feel really bad for quiting.
The Job he offered me is pretty good, well paid and has many benefits for me. I like him and his company and are really excited to work with them. They are expecting big things of me and I'm scared to disappoint them.
Also I haven't told my boss about my plan to quit yet and because we become kind of friends in the time I work for her, it's an difficult talk for me.
😕3 -
Dude from old job who treated me like shit messaged me to implement 2 new features. I quit like half a year ago now. Ok i guess.6
-
Today I nearly killed my new boss, he picked the really wrong day to accuse me of something I did'nt do and could prove... You wouldn't like me when I'm angry cause I back up my arguments and would willingly quit gladly for a better job.9
-
Once worked for a guy who lectured me in front of the whole office because I didn't continued work at home after I stayed 3h unpaid overtime at the office.
I quit soon after that.3 -
Who the fuck doesn't use responsive design. Oh yeah my Job. Thank God I quit Friday. Fuck this old ass dirt company4

I learnt to navigate in Vim 🤩.
Ik it's not much. But had heard so much about Vim and Emacs (tho still don't know why are they so popular, or how to use them), but I kept my distance after the first time I could not quit the application.26 -
Ive never really used vim, and therefore not completely understood all the jokes about it..
Yesterday, i somehow ended up editing my crontab with vim.
I have no idea how i managed to quit it, but something worked.
NOTE: No hardware was damaged in the process9 -

i have a crush on a classmate,
and i feel like she likes me too,
but i'm not sure how to make any move....
i feel like i should quit programming and focus on being a fuckboy...
idk ( ._.)24 -
Everyone seems to have a stress ball, I have a stress dice that says "Yes", "No", "Take a break", "Tomorrow" and "Maybe". It's good for whenever I don't know I should just quit or throw the PC through the window 😅9
-
I find it amusing that if you tell an SMTP server "quit", it responds "Bye" before closing the connection...
It's the little things in dev life...1 -
I just asked the project manager if I could go home early because I'm feeling down.
How can I ever quit after she sympathetically said yes?3 -
Why did the programmer quit the job?
Because he didn't get arrays.
Ancestral, I know. But still funny.1 -
I don't know why quiting vim is such a challenge for new users.
While Quit starts with q , so q is very logical for quiting 😬4 -
When you ask Windows to copy two large folders simultaneously and you see : "Time remaining : 1634 years, 156 days and 3 hours".
Sorry I quit, these 3 hours are too long!2 -
It's weird that this is the community where I'd be posting this, however.
After 16 years of smoking, I tried to quit smoking yesterday.
boi oh boi it is hard 😂 but 2nd day smoke free so far.
From past experiences, I'm almost past the hardest part.
I decided to quit with the first day of lent to have a bit of an extra motivation so if you're into prayer, prayers and good whishes are appreciated9 -
No, it's not damaged. Yes, it most definitely can be opened. No, I should not move it to the trash, because I want to open it.
Quit your bullshit Apple and stop telling me what I should do.4 -
Worst: my previous job was hell and...
Best: in May I quit and so far the current job is a a breeze. Also in 2016 I fully switched to Linux and now everything is going to be fine.7 -
So it's been a while I posted here... but today I got an logo.docx after I asked for an Vectorgraphic. That's it. I'll quit my job and become an ex google techlead on youtube!1

I left for lunch early to drive five miles away to an abandoned parking lot so that I could cry about an email I received... this week has been fantastic.10

I was hired as a C++ dev, ended up doing full stack (React/Redox frontend, Djanho backend).
I was just an intern but by the time I was done there I was in charge of the whole frontend because the other guys quit.
Fuck that place.5 -
I quit abusive relationship. I quit smoking. I quit vaping salt nicotine, yes, the one that vape bloggers tell you is impossible to quit. I overcame opioid drugs addiction that developed when I recovered after a surgery back in 2015.
My last addiction is sugar. Yesterday night was the night when I ate about 100 grams of it in one take, feeling like I need more and more to take that hunger away. It felt EXACTLY like when I was hitting my 50mg vape literally every 20 seconds no matter the headache and dizziness.
I’m already insulin-resistant. After I’ve eaten all that sugar I felt really thirsty and then it hit me. I don’t want diabetes. I don’t want to inject myself. And I’m already insulin-resistant. It’s not me who crave sugar, it’s my internal animal and it only understands the language of pain and fear of death.
After I quit it, I’m officially a superhuman. Addicted to nothing but self-expression. That’s what I like, that’s who I naturally am.12 -
If only I had enough freelance work to quit my job and dictate my own hours. working hours would be 18:00 to 5:00.1

I’m about to quit this job, this customer don’t care about the people, they just want quick results and people available 24/7, this is taking my mental health, I think I’ll become a farmer instead.3

Dear email marketers:
I don't owe you anything just because you bought my contact information from some sketchy company. If I was interested in your garbage sales pitch I would fucking reply! Quit nagging me for a response and go get real jobs you fucking twats!2 -

How did y'all survive when devRant was down for maintenance?
I personally played Fifa 17 on my ps4 then quit in the middle of a game when I saw that devrant was back online. :D9 -
Ohhh! That feeling when you quit your stupid job . Now i can say whatever the fuck i want to my boss and his loyal bitches. Without giving a flying fuck.
Sorry, i get so excited.5 -
My favorite year as a dev + why?
It would have to be this year because ..
- The 'pointy hair' bosses I've ranted about on this forum have been fired or they quit. I almost kinda forgot what it felt like to talk to managers not feel like "Good Lord, how does this guy put on his shoes"
- I took over the position of my nemesis (his choice, not mine) who quit (he quit before he was fired) and deleted+replaced all remnants of his code/life's work. More out of spite than necessity.
- Reaping the benefits of properly logging/reporting errors and developers able to fix those errors, nearly eliminating those 3:00AM 'System is down' phone calls.
- Able to take time to learn new technologies (learning React right now) and not constantly running around putting out fires.
- Son just graduated college at age 21. -
I'm pretty fucking sure that if I were to quit my job, I'd have to gather the fucking requirements, create the fucking user stories, and then JIRA the ever-living fuck out of it before I could submit my fucking resignation.
I just want to write fucking code.3 -
My friend in 2016 : I will learn how to program and quit this miserable job.
My friend in 2017: Wow programming is taking off I need to learn how to code
Just waiting for the same message in 2018 now...3 -
I did it. Finally. Quit my old service provider with its 12Mb offering - in favour of a blisteringly fast 1Gbps fibre to the premises....
Now, what to do with all that speed!9 -
"Isn't the search feature I want just an input field and a button? Does it take so long to implement?"
-from a boss to my colleague. I told him to quit.3 -
1.5 million lines of undocumented spaghetti code. Think 500~1000 lines functions, 5k+ lines classes, string html concatenation. You name it, it had it. And complete unwillingness to improve it by the company. I eventually quit after considering doing it about 2, 3 times.4

How can you be called a senior developer when you edit a giant SQL stored without first making a backup....4

Hmm, I had plans to quit my job, but then the company got orders worth 3 million dollaros and will continue to get every three month now.6

Four months ago I decided to quit smoking and bought a vape mod :) Never touched a cigarette since. Best decision I made in a while.
Just wanted to share this with you, fellow devs. :)5 -
I quit my previous job to relax. Then current job came out of nowhere.
How? I just added a new framework I tried to my resume.
Best decision made so far.2 -

I’ve been at this job 4 months and I feel like I’ve been here long enough to make an accurate opinion of it. From day one I have not felt welcomed. There is no communication within the team.. none of my questions are ever answered.. and when I do ask questions I get snarky answers. I don’t expect my hand to be held, but as someone who is new, I’d like you to give me guidance. Especially since the code is mostly legacy and no one else on the team seems to know anything about anything.
Oh and there are not daily stand ups, project managers, or direction in the tickets themselves.
I guess I should have expected this on the first day when I asked for a SIP or documentation on how to get my environment setup I was practically laughed out of the office and then had the nerve to ask me why it took me the entire day to get 5 environments up and running.. not giving me the custom mappings or the global UDFs.
Today was my last straw.. when I asked a question in three different forms of communication on multiple different channels and was never given an answer.. and then was asked why I did something the way I did instead of doing it the way they wanted me to.
I think the saddest thing is that I felt tricked into this. I was told this position was going to be one way but ended up being something else. I was excited to share my knowledge and best practices to the team. Instead, I’m an outcast and get only be negativity and excuses when I politely bring up suggestions.
I no longer have the will to code here.5 -
I quit my job 1 year ago about and am working freelance now. next step is make tutorial vids then once I get that solid it's on to my startup which is in the data analytics field.4

Has anyone ever quit a job because of a horrible boss? I just quit my internship for that very reason. Ppl, of course, are saying that I shouldn't have. 😒8

I need quit my job, my boss is an as***le... I want to kick my boss as** but, suddenly remember that I need this job, I need this money to help my mom and my sister to rise her childrens, my nephews...6

I quit smoking yesterday.
By a coincidence I had a pack of cigarettes named “Kresty” – the brand from russian prison.
Just gave it to Stephen Paul Taylor. There’s no reason to smoke again, just don’t want to loose this kind of story.4 -
So i just quit legally gotten GTA5, and i quit it with a thought of "fuck this unplayable shit, i'm gonna uninstall it to make space for illegal cracked version, because that one actually runs in playable manner".
I'm sorry, but i'm not sorry. Fuck all of the anticrack crap that makes it choke for half a second every 10 seconds.15 -
Just quit being in a team for an app i was working on on the side. I liked the app but i decided working 10 to 6 is enough work for a day, i deserve guilt free chilling in my free time.1

Yay, our marketing person has quit only after 4 months. New record for the longest staying marketing employee!
This is the third marketing person since I started here and I won a bet with a colleague for how long they will last :D2 -
"I would like my site to be harmonious with a garden "

I said I know how to quit from Vi in the job interview but they didn't accept anyway. People have no respect for true knowledge in these days.2

Today I decided to quit my job as a web developer.
And so I did..
NOT!
April fools. I'm still working all day without time to do or learn new things.2 -
just quit my job, and the last push i do is changing all the literal string contained in variable and/or stdout to base64 encoded string. and change it to call my secretely placed decoder function.
Everything is working normally guys! *walks away into darkness*10 -
Usually I'd go grab a smoke and coffee and think up a solution while smoking.
I quit smoking 2 weeks ago, no idea how to fix it now. -
I'm stuck in road traffic and it's giving me headache, i wish every driver knows at least FIFO rule, if it's on a computer the CPU will quit his job because of all those stupid processes :/
-
It was 3 months project, but it takes 9... bad management and the client changed his requirements every weekend. I quit the job after it.1
-
Just had a fierce exchange of texts with the boss cause I couldn't make it today cause of some family issues.
To quit or not to quit is the question?10 -
My company: We have a retention problem. Surveys say they want to be paid more and promoted more.
Also my company: we're going to hire someone with strictly less experience and time in the company than you in at a higher rank and pay grade. -
Five interviews and challenges later and I’m told they won’t be going further with me.
Over month of my life. Finally thought this was the one. But oh well. Depression.
I officially quit being a dev.
It’s been rad y’all.12 -
I like my work, don't get me wrong, but any time I need to work with this fucking 12 years old project that has so many conflicting branches, css that remembers float layouts, half of the files not being tracked, ruby dependencies that are a decade outdated I just want to quit.2
-
Life is a constant battle of not knowing whether I want to quit programming forever, or if I just need 8 hours sleep.1
-
Well, just got laid off. My 2 cents: Dont open recruitment sites at work, even an email in your personal inbox.
The worst part is they took the first blow before I quit, and it fucking hurts.12 -
Back when I was younger, I used to do concreting. And our boss was an old school type of prick.
Pissed off one guy so much that the guy literally hurled a shovel at him lol. Then quit. -
The balance of will that it takes between the decision to quit my job or to tough it through probably the single most awful project I have ever been a part of2
-
Once I quit my job, I'll leave this message on the comments "Only me and God knew what this code did. Now that I'm gone, only God knows... Please increase the variable i for the number of tries. i = 999"6
-
So i already worked 40 hours this week and i have still 8 more hours to go.
Made a shift from 08:30 till 23:30 and wannabe lead had the guts to tell me i could work from home.
Maybe it's not a bad idea to leave the office.
And fucking quit1 -
Create my own company and finally release my app. Quit my current job and eventually start doing whatever the fuck I WANT rather than whatever the fuck I HAVE to.
I have only one life. Is it that much to ask to have it for myself, not sold to someone else? -
This is how Scrum works:
Three coworkers are in a Scrum Team. One of them is also the Product Owner and the Scrum Master... The PO decided this Monday that they need to add a new feature for the Tuesday night release, which is estimated at 80 hours. I told the other two in front of a manager that this is not scrum. Nobody gives a shit.2 -
Almost a year and a half. I was so overworked and my failures were so impactful. I would go home and obsess over work all evening and have fever dreams on nights that I could sleep. It was so mentally painful that I was going to jump off a building after a few drinks to make it stop. A military turned civilian doctor told me that I showed symptoms like soldiers in prolonged conflict. He told me “quit or it will kill you” without even knowing about the suicide stuff. So I quit the job and to this day still suffer flashbacks and have crazy mood swings.
Burnout is real. Dangerous stress is real.4 -
Best co-worker quitting story? A co-worker quit, another co-worker quit, and eventually I quit, too :-)
Still happy to be my own boss ever since! -
A short bittersweet story.
Ever since I quit my previous job a couple of months and started working as a freelancer, I haven't felt the need to visit devRant.
Everything that's rant worthy is essentially my fault.7 -
Sometimes I wish I could just quit everything and start freelancing....but it's easier said than done....5
-
We had only one product UX designer in our team.
She quit and I habe accelerated my job hunt.
And when I quit too, the tech team will collapse with both of us gone.
Because then there will be no product manager and no designer, only tech who is arrogant and cocky to even built a simple button to refresh the fucking page.
God bless with this fucking tech team. The Tech Senior leadership is shit. They deserve it, but for now, it's us who are facing challanges.2 -
Working on a team to take functionality from the latest version of an old executable and put it into a new web-based app.
Coworker: I can't get the results to match so I'll just change the options I'm using in the original program until they match.
Me: That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works. Same options on both source and new app, and you should get identical results. Otherwise, there is a defect.
I walk over to look at what CW set up.
M: "Why do you have this box ticked? That option doesn't even exist in the new version."
CW: I don't know. It was there?
M: (trying not to lose my cool, sets up options the way they are supposed to be) This is actually a pretty simple program. It just queries the DB, so we have to make sure the queries and results are the same.
CW: (runs it) Still doesn't match.
M: What version of the source app are you using? Make sure it's the latest.
CW: I can't tell. There is no help/about menu.
At this point, I kinda want to quit and live in a cave.
M: You don't need that. Check the executable in Windows Explorer.
CW: What do you mean?
At this point, I'm sure I look like Anger from Inside Out. I show them how to do it (right click file, properties, etc), wondering how they got this far in their career without knowing how to do the simplest things.
M: (surprised and irritated) This... isn't the current version. It's two versions old.
CW: Well, I couldn't get the newest version to return the results that matched the test cases, so I used the version that did...
M: You can't do th... Why wou... How is that acc... (turns around and walks out to tell the manager he hired a moron)2 -
That moment when you just quit your successful paying job just to have more time to study and try to pass the fucking piece of trash math exam.
Fuck my asshole, fuck my life and fuck that motherfucking college degree. If I don't pass, I will eventually kill my self or quit college.
Jeez, I wonder what was in my head when I enrolled in college, oh wait.. Parents, society brainwashed me to think I need top tier education to be a successful computer programmer engineer.
Fuck you society, fuck my brain, fuck everything.9 -
If it weren't for poor documentation I'd be retired by now.
We didn't all write your library. In fact, only you did. So, some helpful documentation would really help us all out. Can't believe the number of times I need to read source code to figure out what the hell you are doing.3 -
This is it.. this might be the app that I can quit my day job with and just work on nothing but personal projects...
I say about every app ever. -
Last job I was in, dev boss would ask to send him snippets of code through email for review...

Has anyone ever wanted to quit as programmer?
But I talking go and work as a chef or a fucking janitor kind-of-quitting?4 -
I got two, both my internships sucked.
First one, I got hired for a C++ job, did JS for most of it. Half the team quit while I was there lol. I was in charge of the whole frontend when I left.
Second one, again half the team quit while I was there, leaving me with only ppl in Europe to talk to lmao.1 -

we where at a metting and in the middle of a heated discussion, my boss screamed:

Russian press is horrible. I remember reading that America controls weather in Russia using DARPA (!) and this is the only reason we have problems, not corruption or alcoholism.
After reading several bullshit articles like that I quit reading newspapers in general.19 -
Came in excited to give my two weeks notice today and.... My boss is out for a week.. Does this mean I can just quit?4
-
I hate it when people quit in the middle of a project. I was building an app with a guy and he recently said: "I don't really feel like I want to make this app anymore". This is so annoying! He was the second person to quit. There was another girl who quit just a couple hours before we were supposed to do a pitch. Luckily I found someone else to make the app with and he's pretty excited. I hope he will stay. Anyway, has this ever happened to you? I would love to know.3

I worked a whole year in a company for which I produced 30 software and none of them saw the publication even though they were completed. I was the most productive employee and had a productivity of 428% compared with the other employees.
All because of the constant changes in business strategies.
For a moment I believed to be a pirate ship during a storm. When I was tired of the way they were treating employees, months of backlog payments, unpaid leave or not granted, I quit and I was told to me that I was a bad employee and I was unproductive.
In a month he is left only the designer working. At the moment the company in question is still looking for employees, after more than a year no one wanted to work again. Stupid me.
While I ras looking for another job I did freelance for a month, gaining about five times my earlier pay. -
Get well soon for @aureliagbrl. i hope i quit my job a bit later (since i always go home with her) and last night she got an accident while on her way home after overtime work.
sorry dear 😥6 -
Quit a shitty gig finally. Today is first day waking up and not having to turn up for this shit. There are so many mixed feelings I don’t even.
AMA?8 -
I see people ranting about first going to google.com and then searching. The browsers at my workplace won't let you do a search in the address bar, not even in the search field that says Google.
So now I do the same thing at home and realize how stupid it is milliseconds later.
Not frustrating at all. -
I just watched a "lead performance test engineer" quit out of vim using Ctrl+Z.
The struggles are real, it seems.6 -
Alright apache2.2 with php5.6 session upload progress works, client has apache2.4 and php7 on his server...now... WHY THE HELL DON'T IT WORK. All THE DAMN REQUIREMENTS ON THE DAMN DOCS ARE THERE. Fuck i could have went to bed and made the same progress18
-
I want to quit. I don’t feel like writing code anymore. I feel burnt out. As fuck. People keep changing requirements leaving me to do the impossible. And honestly do their dirty work.2
-
"hey, how's the GDPR/'right to be forgotten' functionality going?"
"I think dev1 basically completed it before he quit... But it's been 2 months so I'm not sure."
"Well... What's the worst that could happen."9 -
Science says it can't be done! You can't have an iPhone AND preserve your privacy!
Yet here I am, doing just that. Just analyze apps you use and just quit using fucking leeches like instagram and whatever facebook puts out. Also, do this:
1. Disable iMessage, iCloud and FaceTime
2. Opt out of sending analytics to apple
3. Use VPN with DNS that blocks trackers
4. Disable background app refresh and location access
Most importantly, quit using whatever uses personalization to spoon-feed you content that exploits your confirmation bias. Quit watching youtube. Switch to DuckDuckGo or whatever search engine without personalization.
If you don't like apple and don't care about cameras, just buy a Pixel smartphone and install Calyx OS. Fairfone with /e/os is also a good alternative.12 -
when my friends call me and say let's stay in touch on facebook, me i'll be like: emm uhh sorry i quit smoking.1
-
In appraisal discussion,
Boss : Give me good reason why should we give you 30% appraisal!!!
Employee ( After logging into prod machine) : I am going to quit this job 😅😅 -
I am just so tired these days and find it extremely hard to work at all, let alone on the tasks I'm supposed to work on. I spend a lot of time distracting myself compulsively instead, even off work.
I have a vacation planned soon, but I do need to finish an important project before that (which I have been procrastinating on for the last 2 weeks).
These days I often feel like quitting tech altogether or at least taking an extended break.2 -
!rant: I finally quit development! It's been awful! Really!
Got a CIO position instead, and I really like it!9 -
I’m so fucking tired of having to work with shitty code day in and day out and not being able to optimize it. I want to quit so bad without having a job lined up… I fucking hate being a developer now thanks to these fucking pieces of shit.6

-
There are people I've seen myself multiple times; who quit vim/vi using Ctrl+Z . I was lucky enough to ask one person to just run "jobs". That was horrifying.
I just needed to share this somewhere ...8 -
So I'm soley a Java developer, and I got the task of making a server so I was like what a great time to learn C++ or something. With no prior knowledge of what c++ looks like I make a new project and open the damn template to be confused asf on where to start. I lookup some hello world tutorials and now I'm even more confused. Thanks C++13
-
This hack is totally shameless. I quit smoking a couple years ago just to start vaping. And I always was allowed to vape at my office desk.
No stressballs Jedi this needs. -
Just explained 3 senior devs what cherry-pick is.
Dunno if I should quit or get them fired.
Thoughts?5 -
Another wordpress website, and I will quit my job. I'd rather be homeless and hold a card saying "will write actual code for food" than working on that godforsaken platform.5
-
Getting along woth my incompetent boss. I have 4 bosses and 3 of them are great, 1 of them got an email from me this morning detailing why he stresses me out and was the reason my predecessor quit.5
-
we make sprint after sprint with literally no pause in between
and people wonder why people get burned out in this field
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡8 -
It's been quite a while since I've been hit with a product/app idea that's making me lose my sleep and making me want to quit my job and start working full time on it.
Let's see if I can pull this off.2 -
Just quit my bastardized job, and I feel as light as a feather :)
Also, anyone know of any dev jobs around Nottingham? -
JIRA life:
Project leader proceeds to put what is actually two separate issues in the title. I'm already raging. I go to take a look at it.
I read the description - ANOTHER (this makes it three now) totally seperate issue in there.
Just fuck you I'm so sick it i see it over and over again no matter where I go or what project I work on its all the same bullshit.
"wE wAnT tO cLeARlY dEfINe iSsUeS aNd MoVe RaPiDlY"
YEAH THEN F&Q*@#()#$(@)#$ DO YOUR F$*(@#(*&$ JOB!!!! I'M DOING MINE, IN ADDITION TO DOING YOURS, CLEANING UP YOUR ABSOLUTE MESS THAT YOU LEFT!!!!1 -
Going on a new job interview later this week. Am I stupid for feeling bad possibly having to quit my current job? Feel like they did a bad investment if I quit after just a couple of months, and that I just cost them money 😕😞4
-
I'm currently interviewing, but I'm so exhausted that I am seriously considering to quit without having a new job. When I look at that legacy mess and try to make sense of it, my monkey brain just says "no".2
-
i'm unhappy with my freelance project. should i quit? (Bad design, bad pay) And i dont needed but i say yes. I know its my error but im unhappy.4

-

-
That feel when a customer denies writing you a service review (only one sentence), because her website went offline one time. We're not even the hoster of the website. She decided in not paying more for a more professional hoster, even after our recommendation. We even spent time resolving the issue with the hoster without charging that blonde fuck our rates. Don't I just love working for customers 🙂2
-
Both team members quit on a hackathon 2 days before the deadline. I was more curious whether I can do it than desperate, but I spent those 2 days coding. Didn't succeed though.
-
Just joined a new company this week. They have react, redux, and all sorts of libraries checked into their repo. Code looks like someone puked all over it. Should I quit? Or stay and clean it up?1
-
I wish everyone would quit coding at the same time so we could just destroy any stupid ass system that is currently in place and start fresh with a sense of belonging in this world8
-
In Vim, :x = save and quit
Never hear anyone mention this command. its the one i always use to quit Vim. Youre welcome :)3 -
So my current job wanted to extend my probation for the 2nd time. Amazing feeling to say sorry I quit. New company was paying me £10k more during probation and up to £20k more after probation!
Yeah I feel it was nice! -
Oh you want that ticket closed from a week ago? Okay how about every time i finish it, you quit reopening it and adding more tasks and features to shit ive already redesigned/gutted/debugged about 20 fucking times.1
-
Slowly I am strongly considering changing the company. Somehow our management is losing its focus on reality. On the one hand, the management doesn't care one bit about what problems we have, especially when we have issues with other teams, which makes it impossible to finish our (necessary) features. But when the management wants something, everything has to be completed immediately and preferably yesterday.
We work in our team (and in almost the entire development) according to Scrum, so we are organized in sprints. However, our CTO thinks that none of this matters and that the whole planning has to be thrown out just because he wants a small (absolutely stupid) feature.
And then, our supervisor thinks he has to force us to do things that are entirely irrelevant for the team. We wouldn't have any advantage and would just be the henchmen of others.
And then there's a neighboring team that refuses to make any progress and keeps blocking everything. But somehow it's management's favorite team and can simply (unofficially) decide about other teams.
Honestly, I'm pretty pissed off now, and I'm not in the mood for that crap anymore.4 -
Tfw you're done with dealing with idiotic bug reports ("Game crashed pls fix", "Not working pls fix", like that) you force the bug reporters to read a copy-pasted version of Simon Tatham's Bug Reporting Guide (https://chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgt...) on a page before going to the bug reporting page and set a minimum of 100 words in the bug report filter just to filter the BS.
EDIT #1: Spelling errors1 -
Finally got a job offer, just waiting on the official letter, I am eager to hand my two weeks in. I'm even tempted to quit outright once I have the offer letter. (No one is under me, there's no training I can provide, no needed bridges would be burned)4
-
The funniest take from the 'don't quit a bad job' take is that of 'mental health'
Have you asked someone who has no job and financially stressed what toll it takes on their mental health?
I can bet which scenario causes more anguish.11 -
I really don't like the anxiety when Xcode crashes, I need to force quit it and really really hope that my code is saved...
-
I just love Windows apps on Mac OS lol, this morning MS Word hung for a long time, was completely unresponsive and then I had to 'force quit,' the thing.
Lo and behold, the MS crash reporter opened and it hung for a long time, was completely unresponsive and I had to 'force quit'. How the fuck do they even get through testing?6 -
So first reflex in looking what Electron development looks like was making a Hello world app. So it just makes a window saying "Hello world".
Then I proceed to editing the menu, and the quit option is "Goodbye world"... and I realized, or at least I thought... this is a bit... grim?1 -
I hate it when I use another desktop environment on linux like xfce or mate and I end up trying to press super key+shift+q to quit an application.2

Then i remember i have bills to pay -
I am implementing an API. How do I know what to do? Read the docs! Unless... there's none on the website. Asked by email and they could provide a PDF, which contains some graphics which you're free to interpret ...
Machine readable description? Nope.
How do I get to know about updates to the API? *blank stare*4 -
Why is it when I join a new company, the people I depend on to train me on complex systems suddenly turn in their two-week notices and quit? This ALWAYS sets me up for failure because people expect me to instantly BE that person who quit. That’s impossible and unreasonable.5
-
In coding, projects and life in general, how can i know when should i say
"hey this isnt working, i should probably go and do something else"
and when should i say
"damn its getting difficult but i must not quit, i have to remain focused and consistent even when I don't want to"
?4 -
The old company I was working at, was absolutely treating their new employees as shit. Everything was handled by the old timers who "knew how the world worked" (to those, TDD was useless, because as proven by this company only, it was a waste of time).
Everything that the new employees or "young talent" came up with, had to be talked through in a senior group, without the young talent. Never got anywhere, their software was absolute garbage (yet worked by sheer magic!!!!)
Today I learned that a former coworked had hos LinkedIn account say "[company]: waste of time."
And before you say "No company you work for, is a waste of time, as a software dev." i say, working for this company made you a worse developer. By. The. Fucking. Day.1 -
Valid reasons to quit? i don't want to do it. But I see people leaving enterprises every 6 months.6
-
Background: I am working on task x. On successful completion of task x, task y may be given to me. Task x is haaaaaard. My group is not the only player and any fuck up will break my group and at least two others. Now here is my story:
Me: Yeah I am doing this hard thing and that hard thing and getting ready for these hard meetings.
FormerCoWorker fcw (): wow that sounds hard.
CurrentCoWorker ccw (): yeah he's working on task x and task you.
Me me (): what? No I'm not. I am working on task x. Don't go randomly assigning me tasks like that.
ccw: well if you finish task x you will be an expert in section z of code. So it is only natural you take on task you.
me: yeah but task x sucks and task y is why several engineers have quit the company. You never know. You could be assigned task y and quit. Why do I have to take on task y and quit?
NGL, I will do it of they promote me. I may be a whore, but I am gonna get paid. -
our automated email system is written in 3 y/o razor (cshtml) pages that have no inheritance.

I'm not sure. Was considering becoming a pharmacist when I was in high school. Also was considering becoming a graphic designer. If I had enough money to just quit being a programmer today and couldn't go back to programming, maybe teaching computer science or being an artist.
-
When you unknowingly/accidentally/inadvertently delete something someone was working on for a long time and they don’t tell you until several months later when all the backups are long rotated out. No way to fix it and nothing left to do but accept blame and sanctions and work to regain lost trust. Kill me now.4

XCode is so terrible. I have to force quit it several times a day in so many use cases. I wonder why Apple cares so little about us developers. I dream with the day they’ll make XCode a good IDE. Everytime I run maps on the simulator my CPU goes to 700% and every time I checkout a branch, the thing hangs there so I have to forcf quit it 😠😫
