A super creepy webcrawler I built with a friend in Haskell. It uses social media, various reverse image searches from images and strategically picked video/gif frames, image EXIF data, user names, location data, etc to cross reference everything there is to know about someone. It builds weighted graphs in a database over time, trying to verify information through multiple pathways — although most searches are completed in seconds.
I originally built it for two reasons: Manager walks into the office for a meeting, and during the meeting I could ask him how his ski holiday with his wife and kids was, or casually mention how much I would like to learn his favorite hobby.
The other reason was porn of course.
I put further development in the freezer because it's already too creepy. I'd run it on some porn gif, and after a long search it had built a graph pointing to a residence in rural Russia with pictures of a local volleyball club.
To imagine that intelligence agencies probably have much better gathering tools is so insane to think about.53 -

I managed to scrape all the images using my Java api in a couple of lines of code, used Apache Fluent to quickly download all of them, and imgflip to turn them into a gif.

I've been fired today and somehow it was an relief :)
As I know that I am pretty much the only one who knows how the infrastructure works and I am the only one who actively tried to get the company to a better level of coding (tests, code reviews, proper deployment / continuous integration,...) It somehow feels like that gif.

I was like, that's easy, literally two lines of code. Proceeds to convert and save the file. Then on open, bam! Format ubreadable. What the actual fuck?! Found an online converter, and tried to convert it to pdf, to see if I was missing something, but the results was the same.
Then checked the decoded string. First 3 characters: GIF
Well fuck you too! This carrier uses GIF's for it's shipping labels for 2years at least, how hard is it to change that in your fucking api response, you pice of shitbag.2 -

Feature request - auto play gif
It would be really awesome if the gif would play automatically and not by clicking on the rant's gif.
Of course we can keep a setting option to keep it on or off. What do you guys think?2 -
@dfox tiny bug report: when playing gifs, it first plays the first ~1s of the gif, then starts again and then plays normally.

(aka. st) After appiled path "alpha" -> It did transperent in the way that if you have 2 terminal overlaps -> It'll draw a transperent surface with the underline terminal. so, It's not an idea for open vim with i3 tab or stack mode. I kinda gave up on using it until I realize -> what if underline terminal is "mpv" which is video player. This is a result (Holy fuck is awesome). by set "hi Normal ctermbg=NONE" in vimrc to make transperent background with vim.
Now, I have "mps-youtube" which allow me to watch youtube with mpv, basicly (vim + youtube) as the same time.

This is a major part of my workflow, and I wanted people to see it. So I went an inch-deep on quicktime screen recording and ffmpeg flags to produce this low-quality gif.
I pop open the alfred text window with cmd-space, and have it set to use DDG as my default search provider fallback. In this way, I'm able to execute bang-searches without having to load any urls, or even move the pointer.
What kinds of productivity/workflow tricks do you use?

I have a Yahoo app on my phone for some legacy purposes. I just allowed the storage access permissions when it was asking for it during the installation or something, cause like, who doesn't? I checked my Yahoo Mail on the browser tonight and saw copies of my mobile photos in it! It's through the Attach Icon > Insert animated GIF. WTF? So that's how you can easily get hacked from apps?

Update on the API based game that I’m working on.
All of the game logic and API is mostly done.
Here is a gif which shows a few turns with a very simple "AI" vs a passive bot.
I’m bad at graphics so a went for a more abstract UI:
The arrows represent the looking direction of the units and the black dots represent the direction of the shots being fired at a particular turn. Units can look and move and shoot in different directions in one turn.

After seeing it in a demo, the customer didn't like their first loading gif and they sent another one.
I go to open it to verify it's good and Gimp won't open it; Chrome, Firefox, IE, even MS Paint fails miserably. Eventually I ran file on it and it's an html doc.
So I changed the extension and loaded it up. He saved his slack window as a gif. -
I just finished something!
Okay, it's just a quickly thrown together python script that takes a directory of portraits, centers and scales the face closest to the center of the image and creates a gif. Made it for a friend who is doing this one portrait each day thing.
Nothing big at all, but damn does it feel good anyways 😁 -
OK so after working with SDL for a bit, we have a circle rendering!
Next step is to start working on keyboard input and then onto importing sprites, first time building a game engine from the ground up and working with Vala in this capacity...

So we've got a gif that doesn't show up in our React Native application. Of course, the designers assume it's me: "are you sure the gif is in the codebase? how are you using it in your component"? yeah ok boomer. I'm like, look at this other gif, works fine. "oh" So I tell them, double check the export options on how you are building the gif, maybe there is something there. so now they are asking ME for those export options. To everybody who remembers my infinity rant. Lets do another try.
This time, lets try to make a stop motion montage.
Take a piece of paper and drow something that fits with the last image. Anything is allowed, but: after sending a picture, please wait a little before sending more.
Remember that this will be a gif with about 5fps. So dont make the jumps between scenes too big.
It surely wont look super nice. But i wanna see what the community can do. XD
So as said, no pressure. If you cant draw or your image doesnt tightly fit the previous ;)

If a rant is posted with a picture, then edited, I don't see any way to remove the picture without deleting the rant.
The "Attach img/gif" should say remove current attachment when the post is being edited, or an additional button maybe.

Quick android gif workaround
The fix is to open the gif in fullscreen, wait 5 seconds, close it and open it again.
It will load the second time.1 -
termux : Android terminal with apt repos like vim, nano, tar, zsh, wget, plugable & more. Also small footprint.

On the days when I just want to sob and put my head through the monitor....
I get out a piece of paper and draw my processes (whether that be code or mapping etc). Each step of each process, helps to represent the input and output of each method.
This makes it easier to find which step isn't giving the desired output....
Either this or the rubber duck method. :) -
My grandparent once wanted me to fix their tablet which they said had a virus. I couldn't find anything so I went to the web browser. A tab was up which said "Your Android has 5 viruses please download our antivirus to clean your phone"
It had the fake gif flashing alerts and whatnot so I simply closed out of the tab and deleted all of the recent "antiviruses" which had been downloaded
To this day they think I'm a technical genius for the easiest "fix" I've ever done.

Why are GIFs still a thing?!? I mean don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against short, audioless videos but why GIF?
GIF only provides a lossless per-frame compression so the performance sucks really bad. For example a 1 MB GIF converted to MP4 is only 100 KB.
So that's why they take longer to load and have so bad quality.1 -

So, I will try to use devRant as an issue traker for itself!
Issue:
Sometimes a gif shows on click just a blank black screen and an x for closing on top left corner. And it does not change after some waiting.
The issue stays the same after closing and opening the specific gif again and again. If it is loading for a long time, then a animation indicating that would be nice.
Strangely, other gifs are loaded and shown instantly.

Well... I'm in apprenticeship, and the company I work for asked me to do insanely complicated algorithms about paid leaves and stuff (Oh and I'm in France so you get the mess about leaves). And I don't understand shit about that ! About TOIL ! I mean, I'm still in school goddammit ! Oh and I said to my boss : "Yeah, wow, that seems complicated to code" and he said : "Yup, have fun". So even him, knowing everything about that shit knows that it's hard af ! I'm currently dying of death and my brain is melting.

Sometimes when other devs ask me to explain something in the specs I cannot make into smaller words (example: javadoc says throws <error name> when x <= y. I was asked to explain 'what all this psuedocode means'), or their code horrifies me, I ask my mother if she knows what it is doing.... just as a 'wtf am I missing' check.
She still finds it amazing when we text her a gif and asks for help when she 'loses' her icons on her phone, but she will still ask what is wrong with some of these people.1 -
Funny, I just said to myself "Of course, the developer does it right. anyone else doing it differently is simply wrong" on how to pronounce SQL.
Yet, when it comes to gif, I totally disregard the developer.

Tasked with removing the Material-ui used in our react project. Old team took shortcuts like using these types of frameworks at every step and the software is brittle.
Any advice from anyone who has ripped Material-ui out of a project.
We are doing this to move away from CSS-in-JS and this is conflicting with every fucking element in the fucking project.

Fuck, got one of my Twitter bots permanently suspended. Twitter won't even tell me why.
It was called "gifb0t" and simply searched for "favourite gif" every hour and Retweeted 5 of the search results.
It turned up some killer gifs.
But it also sometimes (unintentionally) found porn gifs... Maybe someone complained?
Frustrating as I have other bots that are allowed to keep running.

It wasn't at the office but when I was in middle/high school I used to swap powerpoint with a shortcut batch file that would loop til the computer freezes or just write a file that straight crashes. I also did the one with the gif of matrix. Fun times and never got caught! XD

After he went down on his knees and prayed to me (Yes. I managed to do a Feature he wanted soon) we watched a product gif of a new release of the framework we're using.
We watched it for 10 minutes. Was very relaxing

The first prototype of my graduation project is complete.
It is only proof of concept to show that the system works.
Therefore, the design looks like that and needs to be recreated, before handing over the project
System: Sensor data -> Cloud backend -> client software.

One of the features I programmed for my Discord Bot was a Gfycat gif poster, not knowing Discord had such a feature built into the app itself. I would say my feature was more useless than unnecessary.

I think i came up with the ultimate captcha. A gif that displays four numbers, one by one in current position. There's always one number displayed. I do not think that AI can recognize it without some nasty adjustments while it's very clear for humans. A while ago I had to do a captcha with six questions and failed it a few times. Wtf.
The site I'm working on will have this captcha soon. I make a microservice in C that will create a captcha equal to the last url parameter, the four digit number. By giving the number yourself as parameter you know what to validate with later at post. I probably include the answer hashed with some salt in a hidden field to compare answer with so it works if you have two tabs open20 -

can 2 modal which is static have a race condition error? I’m trying to fix a bug and when I showed it to my senior , I said maybe because of the first modal the style is not being applied on the second modal he then said “it might be a race condition” and I almost choked on my own saliva.
Ps: the first modal will show a loading text and a gif after that the second modal shows with some data.
I got confused how he think that it might be a race condition. We’re not doing webworks on the front end. Weird.2 -

In current android version we cannot add jifs from our keyboards, or paste in the screenshot we just took.
Downloading every reaction/meme gif is lamer than just letting your keyboard do it. Anyway, it could be useful or not idk lol7 -

Hi. Me and my friend is working on this major project where we are trying to create a many to many file convertor for a lot of media and file types ( for eg pdf to doc and visa versa, jpg to png , mp4 to flv , or mp4 to gif , whatever the possibilities are )
If anyone has done something like this, then please share your insights : how this is gonna work, what concepts are involved , where to look for this kind of info, etc.
Currently from what i have gathered, it would be almost impossible to convert to a few proprietary formats (like rar, psd or autocad's dwg) but there are still free softwares and websites doing it openly. How so?5 -

Or fine clicking on images or gifs will open rant and there user can open image or gif1
