Am I the only one who doesn't like calling MySQL as "my sequel"?

Am I the only one who reads mysql as "my sequel"?

I recalled a seemingly simple task I took on.

We were building a booking system, and I had to figure out how to retrieve bookings by a certain date range.

Upfront, the tasked seemed simple until I realised I had to both figure out the logic and the SQL statements needed to retrieve all bookings within a certain date range in one query.

I ended up drawing a model to help me visualise the various date-range criteria to be satisfied. And used unit tests to help me think through each date range criterion and make sure they were accurate. Some were obviously from paranoia, but better to be safe than sorry...

After that, I had wrote down raw SQL directly into Sequel Pro first to make sure my query logic was accurate too, before translating into something the ORM equivalent. This was when I learned how to define and use variables in SQL. The variables were throw-away code; I just didn't want to have to hard-code the test date-ranges over and over again; minimise chances of spelling errors.

Needless to say, felt my problem-solving skills went up one level after this task. Saw my coding style and unit tests improve. And also the thought processes that go into how to maintain code quality...

It bothers me more than it should when people pronounce sql as sequel.

so guys, how do you say SQL? "sequel" or "es-kyu-el"?

...huh. So SQL is really pronounced as 'sequel'? Still prefer saying it letter-by-letter though :P

I called it "Microsoft S.Q.L" but Bobby argued it's Sequel not S.Q.L then I asked Bobby "PostgreSQL" and also he said "Postgre Sequel". Hehe sequel my ass then cus I'm sticking with my abbreviation.

WHY!!

So first reflex in looking what Electron development looks like was making a Hello world app. So it just makes a window saying "Hello world".
Then I proceed to editing the menu, and the quit option is "Goodbye world"... and I realized, or at least I thought... this is a bit... grim?

Going back and rewatching Star Wars stuff only to remember and get pissed off once again about the Sequel Trilogy. I can’t believe some people are allowed to make movies, watching a dog poop has more value than the entire story of those three movies, and Disney can go fuck themselves for that.

I recently heard someone pronounce SQL as "Sequel". Is that actually the correct pronunciation? Have I been saying it wrong all those years?

What Database client do you use? I'm currently using Sequel Pro. Right now I'm comparing TablePlus and DataGrip.

Funny, I just said to myself "Of course, the developer does it right. anyone else doing it differently is simply wrong" on how to pronounce SQL.
Yet, when it comes to gif, I totally disregard the developer.

So, for some reason, when I opened YouTube Vanced, I am trapped into a loop of loading animation. And I thought "Hmm... Maybe my Internet sucks, let's try again.".

Then I switched my Internet on and off, go back to YouTube Vanced, the same loading animation loop.

Then I do switching the Internet for about 30 minutes, go back to YouTube Vanced, no progression.

Then I thought "What about YouTube?", I open Youtube, and you know what, YouTube loads it PERFECTLY. The loading animation takes longer than usual, but at the end, it still loads my recommendation and anything!

I thought "Wait, do they have an update?", then I go to Vanced Manager, and no, there is no new update for both Vanced and Vanced microG. There is a new update for Vanced Manager, though.

I decided to report a bug, but then I realized that the problem I am facing is too ambiguous for the developer to fix, so I decided not to do it.

So yeah, now I am sticking with YouTube, since I cannot find a solution better than it, and if you ask me, YouTube Vanced is still trapped in the loading animation loop.

I absolutely hate it when people pronounce MySQL as MySequel but I have no problems with people pronouncing SQL server as Sequel Server. It's a weird world.

Goodbye Ampps, hello Valet!!

Just got a Macbook Pro recently for personal web dev stuff. Previously, I usually use Ampps (like MAMP) for my local development.

But I want to move away from that as I wanted to go through the whole process of setting up my own local dev env.

After 3 days of trial and errors and many deadends, finally managed to get an existing Craft project running on Valet. The most tedious part was figuring out how connect Sequel Pro to local MySQL.

Through this whole process I've learned how to use Homebrew, setup MySQL with Sequel Pro, use Valet and most importantly, learning how to troubleshoot these problems...

Exclaimed a big YES! And mum came rushing into my room thinking I was mad... whateva...

Next step, figure out Docker.

Do you guys pronounce the database query language as 'S.Q.L.' or 'See-quel'

Personally hearing the latter makes me want to punch the person saying it right in the throat.

Suggestions for any good SQL Client for macOS (Except Sequel Pro)

Playing the sequel of my childhood game. It is pretty good, although it runs like 2 FPS on my potato PC.

(I have to take it from my phone because the WiFi device I currently have is garbage)

I really don't understand javascript sometimes... I'm trying out feathersjs, and I really like the idea of the services/hooks architecture. I even see they include some conveniently preconfigured database services. So I see they also have the ability to generate the tables from my javascript (using knexjs) I figure hey this is great and really convenient and a nice in between using a full ORM and straight up sequel... problem is, it only works sometimes, because it seems every database adapter in javascript all run asynchronously I can't seem to figure out how to make it wait for the database to finish being created, before the rest of the framework configuration finishes...

I've spent nearly like... 5 hours wasting my time on this trying to understand why/how it works the way it does, when I could have just written a sql script (which I will be doing...)

I just want to curl up in a corner for a bit after this experience...
