I fucking hate it when developers don’t respect user locale. My phone language is UK English, my Discord app language is UK English and my region is UK.
Then why the fuck is Discord showing me MM/DD/YYYY date format? How hard is it to pass locale when parsing time?20
Electron is a plague, MSN in 2009 had far more features than Discord today but was able to run like a champ on Pentium 4 PCs with 1GB of RAM.18
Last week in dR Hunger Games...
Watch as 24 tributes from the number of devRant users beat each other in this violent simulation. Introducing the 2nd week of craziness, now in entertaining video form! 🤣52
I hate it when people keep telling me to switch to something, especially when I'm not even talking about it.
Recently I complained on a discord server that Ubuntu doesn't heave docker in their repos, instead they have a package called "docker" that apparently installs some kind of gui. One of the guys there went on a rant how podman is so much better than docker. I respond that it's not up to me, and that I have to use docker even if I wanted to learn switch. He gets almost aggressive praising podman and almost insults me for being stubborn.
Like, I get that you're passionate about something and want people to know about it. But sometimes people have to use something inferior because of outside factors. And not gonna lie, that dude made me want to stay away from podman9
DXB (airport)'s WiFi doesn't let you call through whatsapp or telegram or even discord. It also does not let you send a whatsapp voice message, which has me very puzzled.
And all I wanted to do was to call my mom. ☹️
(I might also be running a slight fever, which makes me very emotional and sensitive)12
Fuck all of those stupid fucking shitty spam and scam bots there is everywhere. I swear epsically on every single comment on youtube you would at least encounter one bot comment (thats if you are lucky) or on discord the amount of spam/scams you receive is ridiculous.
I swear everything i accidentially read any of that shit i lose the remining of my brain cells.
That should be a living proof of some human lives are completely worthless and why exeuction could be justified.
So if you are one of those kinds of people, who develop those kinds of bots, i have one thing to say. Fuck you and your inbreed incest familiy, i wouldnt call 911 on you, not even if you paid me a million dollars you human trashbag scum.8
Seriously, fuck Discord's new community guidelines! They now think they even own you outside of ther shady app:
"We may consider relevant off-platform behavior when assessing for violations of specific Community Guidelines."
Addressing harmful off-plattform behavior:
"When we talk about off-platform behaviors, we’re referring to any behaviors taking place outside of Discord, either in other digital spaces or in a physical community. If we become aware of specific off-platform, high-harm behaviors with credible evidence committed by a person with a Discord account, we will take the off-platform harmful behavior into consideration when assessing whether that account has violated a specific Community Guideline."
"We are applying this off-platform behavior consideration only if we become aware of highest-harm threats, including using Discord for organizing, promoting, or supporting violent extremism; making threats of violence; and sexualizing children in any way."
Why does every fucking internet company think that they own their users?17

Our school had for an open source way of dealing with home schooling and managing the school network and so on.
Now the government forced a "proprietary" system on our school and everyone hates it. The teachers didn't want it the pupils didn't want it but who cares "what we do is the best".
Btw the proprietary system costs a fuck load of money even though they just mixed many open source projects and made it their own proprietary thing.
And this company now get's loads of money for their shitty system that never really worked once since we got it.
They blocked so many ip's that we can't even access google and it's services on the school wifi and the bandwith dropped severely with the new system.
Oh and many random ip's e.g. one of my vps is accessible but the other one not.
Discord is blocked.
And so on...
I need to learn for tests next week and need to access that stuff on the portal but...
Now they decided to switch the LDAP server to the new system and since a few hours i can't access this fucking thing.
It seems like the platform now contacts the new server which isn't even up and running....
Never change a fucking running system....
Oh and we got smart boards and it runs on android and they didn't block adb. Now i installed clash of clans on one of those things. Haha whoops.
These boards cost 7000€ and have security patches from 2 years ago....and Android 87

I'm working on a video for dR Hunger Games 3. It takes a heck of time, since I'm learning more video editing techniques. Meanwhile, have this ;)9
I haven’t told anybody about this outside of my close friends and the dR discord, but I am getting another fumo. This one will be the Kaguya Houraisan fumo. (ᗜˬᗜ)2
I had a dream last night that my upcoming interview was on Discord instead of Zoom and all of the microphone bugs were hitting me at once and the guy couldn’t hear me.
Where and How do you make developer friends.
My coworkers are smart and decent developers but they learned on the job for the job.
But they're not interested in discussing improvements to legacy projects that barely still work until they break and we need to rush to recreate them 'better'.
or sit on a call on the weekend working on spontaneous personal projects that usually die cause another idea came along.
Sometimes I really just want someone I can hop on a discord call with so they can criticize my projects and brainstorm ideas and improvements with me4
I did not think that making a serverless Discord bot would be such a learning experience. The code itself was easy. The hard part was the infrastructure, because I decided to automate it all with Terraform and deploy it on AWS.
Before this project, I had no idea how API Gateways worked. Now I still have very little idea how they work but I managed to build one anyway. Eventually. And then I had to figure out how to automate the deployment of a lambda layer and function that would both still be managed in the Terraform state, with any code changes triggering a rebuild and update for the resource.
And then I had to untangle a dependency mess because API Gateways have some weird issues where two resources that have no explicit dependencies on each other will throw an error if they don't deploy in the right order.
And then I went the wrong way with Github actions trying to conditionally chain multiple workflows together before I realized I could just put multiple jobs with conditions in a single workflow.
And now after all that work over the course of 2 days, I have a bot that does this:2
Kind of a teaser for the upcoming dR Hunger Games video:
This week introducing a live reaction featuring @Synthron!1
At this 5th week of Codenames fun we get bombarded with the most ridiculous clues we have ever seen!3
time to go for full snack development
started some open source project for discord bot that provides info for some free game users, through scrapping forum and requesting apis
This is kind of going to be a major refactorized second version, that considers all mistakes of a first version. And going to be much more scalable and easy to maintain.6
Every Friday, we be playing. Custom word collection, challenging topics, teamwork!
Join the party! 😄🎉5
How do you guys monitor programs on your servers?
For example, I have a raspberry pi zero w running raspbian (headless). On this pi, I have a bunch of discord bots and web scrapers running at the same time. My solution was to run them all from a bash file:
Python3 discordbot1.py &
Python3 discordbot2.py &
Python3 webscraper1.py &
Node webscraper2.js & etc.
Is there a better way I could be running these services? How is stuff like this usually done?9
started looking for another way to use discord since their linux app is electron and garbage. (taking up a couple gigs just to sit there. windows apparently are all 32bit builds and take up a couple hundred megs)
luakit was not highlighting text? lil slow. lil weird
surf (suckless), well suks. copy doesnt even work from what i can tell, and other ppl had that issue. besides that just kind of a pain. not a fan of suckless rebuild manually flow anyway
had to dick with userscripts since a browser wouldn't have notifs or systray.
drag and drop doesn't appear to work with webkit. (i know safari users have had issues bc discord says the tech doesnt support discord)
ended up with vimb, and i gotta say, it's good. faster, i got vim follow, and it only takes up 100mb or so.
So, I have a friend and he asked me to do a discord bot for him. (The language was kinda up to me and I chose Python). Nothing complicated (theoretically). I coded it, tested it and sent it to him. But after installing it, he got a different issue EVERY single day. And he didn't change anything! The most infuriating part is, that I couldn't even reproduce the issues he had. WHY? Why can't it just work? Why can't a simple project not just be simple?5
I think you already know by now, but I have to say it. The update of the discord app is utter shit, brought only downgrades to me and they still refuse to fix bug that have been prevalent on their platform for years to force their shiny, new, untested bullshit down your throat
3 days before, I talked with the owner of a small LLP Company along with other devs on discord. He told those who met with some skills can join their company (basically game development). I asked if they need any blog website or kind of portfolio for such (because the existing one sucks so much). He replied in affirmation and wanted me to contact him on Ig with a project link. I did the same in order. Now, he replied that Wix suits them perfectly. I was like
WHAT THE FUCKING HELL I CAN DO ABOUT THAT, why did he not tell me before
Today Tornado Cash (TC) discord deleted, website deleted, devs got arrested.
Heres my question: although i believe TC didnt have any bad intentions in context of to help people launder money, how come the government can that easily shut down ANY crypto/nft if they really want to?
What exactly is "decentralized" here...?
TC was not made for money laundering, just like onlyfans wasnt made to be pornographic website - the Users are the ones who determined its fate.
If TC had a way to block illegal transactions, then that would be a web2 company and not web3.
And now when TC doesnt block illegal transactions in order to remain "decentralized" and "anonymous", they got arrested and their system got shut down. Ironically, so much for "anonymity" and "decentralization"...
This means the government is able to shut down absolutely any and every crypto, including BTC if they really wanted to. The question now remains is: why are they letting it roll and not shut down the whole of crypto?
What if crypto was a part of the governments plan for a future financial world where they can control, freeze, block or shut down our finances with a click of a button just as easily as they arrested TC founders today?7
