Might have missed someone. Let them know ;) -
I don't remember having subscribed;
but it was a good read, I'm glad I got pinged. -
j0n4s53101ySummary for people who are lazy (provided to you by AI, lol):
The author recounts their experience with the dR Community Server (dRCS) Discord group, which started in October 2020 when the owner invited users from devRant. An early meetup was disorganized as participants switched between Zoom, Google Meet, and Jitsi. The author later became owner of the dRCS Discord server and helped verify members' identities by linking to their devRant profiles. The server grew rapidly but the author now feels Discord has privacy issues and is too centralized. They are considering building a synchronous space using open-source software instead. In reflecting on dRCS, the author highlights the early struggles to coordinate the first video meetup between devRant members. -
@j0n4s Haha, good-good! Not without a few hiccups there and there, but who reads, they'll read and confirm from the OP, hopefully bringing some more traffic on Kbin ;)

j0n4s53101yAlternative version (lol, I need to stop depending on this AI thingy so much):
- A meetup was organized between members of the devRant community on Discord and other platforms in October 2020, but faced issues with video streaming capabilities.
- The ownership of the dRCS Discord server was transferred to the author after the original owner asked for a new owner.
- A verification process was created to link devRant profiles to Discord usernames to prevent impersonation.
- The Discord server grew rapidly with many new members and notifications for the owner.
- Moderation rules and roles were established as the server became more active.
- Bots were added initially to help with tasks like polls and music, but the author later reconsidered some of these decisions.
- Privacy and performance issues are seen with Discord, including on mobile.
- The experience of the devRant community on Discord is being evaluated for a potential future transition to Matrix. -
@j0n4s Yep, but despite some video issues, meetup was a sucess, it was cozy and fun to listen to. 🤗

j0n4s53101y@vintprox sorry one last thing, how meta is this screenshot?
Now kind of on topic:
How are you using kbin? Is it like a replacement for reddit or more a blog site thing? -
@j0n4s We use Kbin exactly like Reddit, and it comes with its own whistles, of course. No flairs yet, working badges system is in development. You could say it's a combination of Reddit-like experience and microblog.
I'd go further to say that Microblog is where all juice is hiding, as it doesn't require a Kbin account specifically and can be used as a free outlet for rants and mini stories by *anybody* by just including one of the featured hashtags (#drbb, #devrant, etc). That's why I'm stressing in the magazine's description to check it out as regularly as possible.
What they call "Threads" on Kbin is basically a bunch of glorified posts that shine on the magazine's home page and Kbin/Lemmy feed. They look neat and organized this way and can be interacted with from the Fediverse. But you need a Kbin account on one of the instances if you wish to post your own thread.
Hope it sums everything up. I was planning on making a guide about Kbin and Fediverse, just need time. 😉 -
@-ANGRY-STUDENT- @j0n4s Guys, what are you on about? If you have questions, I'm only obliged to give something to work with!
-
@c3r38r170 He makes a lot of pretty good content. Almost always worth a look in my book.
