Joined devRant in June 2017, got eligible for the stickers in a week's time, sent a mail requesting them, but never received it. Given the size of our community, I thought I'm way behind in the list and probably receive them in few months. After a year, I totally forgot about it.

But, the colossal stupid that I am, had also lost the key to my mailbox (the physical one). I never cared about the lost key, because who sends post these days !!!

So, I lost my job a couple of weeks ago, and on a whim I decided to post an ad on a classifieds website advertising websites done cheap. Next thing I know I'm making money doing something I love as opposed to dealing with assholes at a checkout counter. I know the freelance life has its ups and downs but I'm happy!

I don't know a lot of people in other market segments who have zero fear of losing their job. Since I discovered that my coding skills are marketable, I have not lost a night of sleep over job security.

I'm very happy with my current job, but the privilege of rarely having to feel uncertain about income is incredibly liberating.

I'm lost. I am so used to calls saying people broke things, I feel weird that I'm not annoyed with someone's idiocy...

When searching for images of the *visiontek* radeon 7750 vs the AMD radeon 7750, I get different pictures, according to some product pages the visiontek amd radeon is produced by amd though....

They both have six inputs..

Point is: I'm going to run Linux on it (i refuse to install malware/spyware on my system for obvious reasons) and AMD has native Linux drivers for the radeon 7750: are those also for the visiontek radeon 7750?

Dropping out of school. So many lost years on keeping up with stupid and incompetent shits, with the piece of paper at the finish line not obtained. I did that twice and lost.. what, 5 years on that? Time I could've spent doing self-study instead. Trying to get my dns server in php to work from the outside (it's on a vm on one of my dedi's) but it's not working.

- Port forwarding works well: confirmed.
- Connection type: UDP; confirmed.
- I *can* dig from the host (dedicated server) to the vm.
- nmap scans show an open port.

The exact same happens on my local network.

Handed over my first client's project today.

It was revamp for an internet radio site and also the first project that I used Bootstrap 4 in. On top of that, it was the first time I have to deal with PHP and its loops.

Despite audio player errors (somehow, they lost access to the streaming host and hence no audio source), I'm more or less satisfied with the final outcome.

I don't know my problem is. I lost my motivation to code, my enthusiasm and excitement to read a code and solve a problem. My love of my life for 6 years whom I thought she's the one, gave up on us. It was a long journey, lots of ups and downs, but really worth the time and sacrifice. Now, she's doing good, very happy on her life judging from her social media. Can't believe she just moved for 2 months. To be honest, i want her to be happy but quite bitter that she just moved on quite fast. And I don't if this is the reason why I lost my motivation and enthusiasm to code. Or maybe I just don't like the project we're working on. Well, I really don't like it since it's a mobile game, I really want to build webapp or mobile app but it's too late to change the project.

I'm not like this, I used to code until morning without noticing the time, excited to solve a problem that stuck on me for quite a while. I really became a lazy person right now. I feel the pressure to finish the project but I don't see myself working on it, I don't feel interested reading a code. I just play computer games instead of working on my project during my free time. I don't know if I'm depressed. I socialized with people, have fun, happy when I'm with them, but when I'm alone, sadness starts to creep in. I feel like there's an empty void in myself. I don't know, i just want the motivation and energy to work on my project. Im tired, lazy, and feeling burnt out. Integrating Google recaptcha into my web service. For some reason it always errors, both on a production and development environment, correct domains configured, and with he simplest setup. I've been a frontend engineer at 6 companies for the last 10 years. Both big and small companies currently at the largest I've ever worked for. I'm totally over it. Maybe burnt out is the term. I have zero motivation to do any work or coding. I'm not a lazy person. I love working, solving problems, learning new things. I'm just sick of what I do. I used to love following all the newest tech trends, following devs on twitter, checking hacker news and creating side projects. Now I feel like my job has lost all that joy and excitement. I work remote and have been for the past 3 years. I wonder how much of that, not having any social feedback and interaction around the job has attributed to me feeling like this. All the JS frameworks suck. PR reviews, process, requirements; I'm just tired of everything. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do? Were you able to find the passion for programming again?

I'm not sure which is worse: games that display the "unsaved changes will be lost" warning immediately after you saved, or games that display the warning and there's no obvious way to actually save your game.

I like the idea of a minimal OS. Frankly while Windows, macOS and Linux are all incredible bits of engineering, they all suck ass and are maddeningly frustrating.

I know I'm not really a programmer and while I had fun solving the challenges so far it feels I fail to translate the idea of solution into working code. i.e. I know how it should be working, but when diving into the code I'm losing focus and getting lost in the functionality.
It was also good reality check of my skill level when a task took me 50 min while TOP100 is below 10. Can't really fit the time it takes me to come up with a solution with other activities I should actually be doing.

What type of music do you guys listen to when coding? Me I like hip hop, electronica, 24/7 hip hop instrumentals on YouTube and some alternative/indie stuff.

It seems which the crazy enterprise microservice project which I'm doing (an awful distributed monolith splitted in 10+ microservices, hard to test and requiring continued context switching and running on an unreliable platform) has finally won over my brain.
It's so boring and frustrating to work with which I lost all my ability to focus, I used to be able to program well even under significant distress but more than two years of continued boredom, repetitive tasks and frustrations destroyed my motivation and with that my ability of focusing died. What's a good website to get tech news and help me stay up to date? I'm interning for a company and most times I get lost when they start discussing new tech I've never even heard about.

Currently in my last year of application development (actually 90% web dev) and I'm going to pass this year.
After this I want to go to a higher school and I can pick computer science or software engineering.
I am completely lost, which one should I pick? Why?

I really love development, but I hear lots of great things about CS...

Do you guys have any input?

I'm having a strong case of Fridaysititis; feeling depressed and lost on a Friday.

I took a look at Bamboo today because I will later inherit it.

And ... I just can't make sense of it.

I've tried googling, but I'm kinda lost because most stuff I find is half baked or not "complex" enough - as in missing things we do.

The whole UI just leaves me with WTFs.... Honestly, if anyone has good resources I'd be pretty thankful.

I tried today 4 - 5 hours to make sense of it...

But it all leaves me with the gut feeling that Bamboo is either for automatic deployment only ...

Or manual with a ton of duplicated stuff.

Both conclusions feel completely wrong to me ...

Had to reinstall Gmail on my phone... Settings lost, it defaulted to push notifications for all messages.

Someone broke a per-page analytics call.

1,300 Sentry warning emails in an hour later, I'm finally annoyed enough to do something about it, but the settings UI is horrible. 😥

I just had the weirdest feeling where the word "response" completely lost all meaning to me.

I googled it, and apparently this is called semantic satiation.

Huh, never happened to me before.. I hope the memory of the word response returns to me because though I'm not sure why I feel like it's important.

Tempo has lost its reference to the issues on which I'm trying to log work. Used to press 'W' on an issue and that issue was automatically selected as "Issue key", but now I have to select it manually. A small problem I know, yet it annoys the crap out of me.

I have lost track of the whys, but I'm writing something that loads a datastructure not unlike specifications of C types (plus struct single inheritance and generics) from any DLL-s tossed in the same folder, then organizes them into a pretty database. Now I just gotta keep gradually broadening the scope until I get to the feature set of the modern C# type system.

I've been doing a bootcamp in my country, learned the basics with c#, did some small projects but nothing too impressive. I started also web I'm that bootcamp, learned the basics of html css and js.. then all this corona madness started and yes, we still have classes online but less times a week and it's way harder. I'm feeling a little lost with what to learn, how and scared I might never be able to get a job. Ps. First rant and it does feel better even tho no one will read the whole thing :p

I'm currently working as a technical product manager. We lost a QE a while ago and I stepped into the ticket testing, happy path, and some exploratory testing for our tickets.

I had a friend from another company tell me to apply for a QE position. It's a combo product and QE position and I'm about 80% qualified.

Can anyone give me any places I can quickly and efficiently learn about setting up automated testing? I have some background in css, js, and html but basically no c# or other languages.

I like docker. I think the technology is cool and I have a few ideas on how I can use it. But I sometimes think I'm too stupid to use it.

I'm currently trying to convert parts of my dev environment to use containers. But following tutorials on it confuses me and I get lost with it really quickly and get discouraged for a few days until I give it another try and fail again

Like fuck I already know I'm mediocre but this makes me feel like i should go into a manual labor field instead of software development

I feel I'm in deep darkness with my learning. I'm still writing those sample codes from books/video courses and can't motivate myself to come up with a piece of software to write myself.
It's some kind of loop which I can't break and move on.
I quit my electrical engineering studies after two years, to start IT studies, because I felt IT stuff is something I want to do rest of my life. Now, after first semester, I feel I'm in the same place I was before starting IT studies...

Question: What is the most common way to customize a WordPress site to a specific design?

Guys I've been learning html and css and have just started Javascript. But I'm wanting to create some WordPress sites for fun and so that I also have some stuff in my portfolio.

I'll be creating a portfolio site for af friend who's is a cinematographer.

I don't want to just use a theme but I'd rather create a fully customized website in conjunction with a set design, as I feel like this is what I need to know if I'm going to be getting paid for this in the future.

How does one go about doing this? I've seen many videos but they all seem a bit confusing. Maybe there's a video series that you could point me to.

This is a Shark Tank related question. I've seen some investors say "I lost money investing in this business or that business" and I'm curious what happens after that.

Let's say I gave you 10% of equity for $1 million and my business didn't make it.

Or I partied too much and blew it all.

What would happen to me then?

1. Be lost in thought less.
2. Listen to people more attentively.
3. Read 3 computer science books.

Note: Last year my resolution was to read 3 computer science books and I'm proud to say that I read 2.5 computer science books. Didn't fully reach it but 2 and a half books in a year is damn better than 0. They were: "Clean Code", "The Mythical Man-Month", and half of "Algorithms 4th Edition".

I created two projects and they are now under testing. Now i am working on two other projects (& more to come). I'd be working on something but i get a lot of emails to do some changes or fix some bugs.
I feel i'm slow but it's only me working on those 4 projects, i can't stop something and work on something else!!
Should i work more at home? Or is it not my fault?
Nobody complained on my work, i'm giving good results although i feel i am losing control, but what if they think i'm a person who can't manage well? any advice???

I've been busting my ass all evening, trying to land a job before anyone catches wind that I lost mine. I mean, I've got a wife and two kids to support!! Anyway, my daughter storms in after being out from dawn till dusk and starts going at it with me, I'm so stressed I feel like I'm trying to debug a complex program with a thousand errors popping up every minute . Now she's giving me the silent treatment, just another thing to add to the stress pile... sigh. Guess I'll keep pounding the pavement. If anyone has any helpful tips, please share. :-(

I spent 2 years as android dev, after that another 2 years as game dev (current work).

Now I wanna go back to being android dev but I kinda lost self confidence and feels like I'm starting from square 1. Also I will struggle explaining my 2 years gap of working with game development.

Feels like I'm a junior in the area. Feeling totally useless since the way I am now I couldn't even pass android dev interview or complete a tech task.

Having ADHD doesn't help with his. Having gained +25kg and being a fat fuck doesn't help also.

Any tips on how to focus at work? Just got my first job a few months ago and I'm having huge problems at focusing for 8h a day. Sometimes I'm just staring at the screen for 30 minutes being lost in my mind. I'm either really in the zone or not being able to focus at all. Will I get used to focusing the longer I work there or am I just retarded?

I feel really lost in neural network theory.
the mnist sample made sense, but now I'm looking at Gans and CNN's.. and now all of a sudden I'm lost.

True also are the examples I'm finding of something I know I was able to get to work when more at peace once upon a time called wavenet for text to speech.

I used the Onyx model however which was very easy to implement, but I quickly get lost looking at the tensorflow and pytorch code, even though it is very short I feel intimidated.

The ssd mobilenet documentation also is pretty straightforward, but when I look for wavenet information about providing input in what format and interpreting output I'm having some trouble.

Its frustrating.

Manager changes requirements on a daily basis and my friend lost his cool today.

I just started learning how to code and am very frustrated trying to find a degree to go into. I'm interested in becoming a Web Developer but the idea of being a CEH intrigues me also. Any ideas what programs or degrees I could go for? I'm near the University of central Florida if that helps. Please give me guidance for I am lost
