iceb11561ywriting code for a job == selling your soul.
I think a lot of people that actually like code don't like the job -
itay91yI’d say it’s a bit less spiritual than “selling your soul” and more like the intellectual equivalent of sex work.

Now Ned, them whores are going to tell different lies than you. And when their lies ain't the same as your lies... Well, I ain't gonna hurt no woman. But I'm gonna hurt you. And not gentle like before... but bad.

I've got a good middle ground. Currently i'm working in Test Management, but very close with Developers. I write Tests and execute them on the Target Environment to break as many things as possible in the Software, resulting in loads of Bug reports.
And in my free time i code.
My actual job might change in 2 years down the line, but that's what i do right now, and i'm happy with it. -
b2plane63921y@asgs im doing devops only with terraform and gitlab CI. But at this job i think ill have to use ansible. They dont use terraform. They dont even know what terraform is when i mentioned it. I have never worked with ansible. And with combination of ansible ill have to use some caveman stone age https://rexify.org technology for devops, something ive even heard before

My advise for every programmer who doesn't see the light anymore, buy or read free online https://craftinginterpreters.com
It's amazingly fun! Thank me later -
myss44501y@iceb is totally right. If you're not in position to refind that spark that made you start programming and you're feeling underappreciated at your current work - switch job. However hard it is you gotta do it otherwise that spark that made your passion for programming will just fade away more and more until is fully out and you accept that you're just somebody's slave for the rest of your life.

asgs112751y@b2plane terraform and ansible are quite similar and also quite different depending on how you want to manage infrastructure. Maybe you could pitch them to bring in Terraform and combine both in your platform

Guys, I know I should find a new job but I need to be stable for my family for a few months, especially in this so called tech winter period
I've lost my passion in writing code. I don't enjoy it anymore. They promised me a promotion a year ago, but it never came. I'm just tired.
