Best part of being a dev?
The perceived ability to fix ANY electronic device owned by friends and family.
"So you work with computers? Any idea what's wrong with my toaster?"7 -
I left uni in 2005 clutching my shiny new .NET based degree, and was instantly hired by a local software firm... to maintain their legacy Turbo Pascal systems.2

That pure rage when you're off work for a few days, and return to find that someone has been in one of your magnificently neat code files, and taken a syntactic shit! Loads of unnecessary whitespace, tabs all over the place, and copy/pasted comments that have nothing to do with the code! 😫1

Just investigating a bug reported by QA. Spoke to the dev responsible for the code, and asked why they'd called a particular function. Their reply:
"Well the function name sounded right. I didn't check what it actually did" -
Webpack and Babel make me want to kill myself. Takes longer to set a project up than it does to write the damn thing.6

When the PO asks for a last second code change right before the sprint review, and now it's your turn to demo1

So I was working on a website for a club in my college. I designed a pretty decent UI and at first everyone accepted it. So I made a working website with my friend, made backend with node and all was set.
After that, the fucking member of club brought in another graphic designer for changes. And they literally made the whole website with heavy images. The designer made heavy neon backgrounds in Adobe Illustrator and didn't even compressed it.
They made the whole fucking website with images and they ran it all on localhost and were happy with the speeds! ಠ_ಠ
They even put an image in fucking Navbar!
And then I left that project, I could not see more destruction.1 -
So I was trying to root my Xperia Z2, starting by unlocking the bootloader. I rushed through the confirmation boxes to get the code, I entered it on fastboot... And realized I haven't made a backup. Phone restored to factory state. At least I had saved my photos on the SD card, but all the files, settings, configs and apps were gone along with my IM conversation database that I hadn't backed up for a month.
And I still haven't finished rooting that device.1 -
If you want a really obtuse method for inverting numbers in python, here you go:
z0 = Decimal('78.56341431805592768684300246940000494686645802145994376216014333')
z1 = Decimal('1766612.615660056866253324637112675800498420645531491441947721134')
z2 = Decimal('1766891.018224248707391295083927186110075710886547799081463050088')
z3 = Decimal('15658548.51274600264911287951105338985790517559073271799766738859')
z4 = Decimal('1230189034.426242656418217548674280136397763003160663651728899428')
z5 = Decimal('1.000157591178577552497828947885508869785153918881552213564806501')
((((z0/(z1/(z2/(n)))))*(z3))/z4)/z5
From what I can see, it works for any value of n.
I have no clue why it works.
Also have a function to generate the z values for any n input.

Does anyone else feels that LinkedIn is a kind of professional trash? Majority of users there are just for posting out their certificates and to but buzz words in their bio.13

Why are hooks so awful?
What justifies having everyone using React relearn how to do things when hooks do not bring any new features to React?
Why does getting setInterval to work with hooks require a ~3000 word blog post by a maintainer which constantly assures you this IS a step forward?
Is scrolling up and down a class component really so hard that this clusterfuck is worth it?

Colleague from a remote office emails me to ask what version of some tooling is installed on a build machine. Generally I wouldn't mind, but for the fact they're literally sat next to said build machine in the remote office. I mean... why get up and look yourself, when you can just IM somebody to look for you... right?

Microsoft officially discontinued the Internet Explorer but that information still needs to be processed (●__●)

Any tinker's here?
I'm in no way one, but I have to start with something, and recently I've buy a Moto Z2 Play, that has this little and nice interface that allows "Moto Mods", practically are modules that you "snap on/off" and add functionality to your phone.
Does anyone here have tried the MDK? do you think this is promising or just another trend to get lost in the way?
