Had to create this table tent because mfs just couldn't take a hint. I also have one for when I'm concentrating/deep in code zone.21

I've tried to joke about it, but you won't pick up the hint. I've told you about the smell, but you think it is a joke. It's not. It. Is. Not. A. Joke.

These foreign Indian scammers keep calling me about "computer virus".
Today, the guy told me to press ctrl + Windows key. I told him I use Arch Linux and then told him I use Netscape as my browser, and he still didn't take the hint.
He asked me "how can you have the Windows key on your keyboard and use Linux?".

I wrote an answer, in my exam, about the precedence of operators.
Took a random example: "3+4*6", and explained that "*" has higher precedence, so "4*6" would be executed first and so on.
Long story short, this was the last line in my answer:
"The answer is 27, not 42."20 -

tl;dr I need ideas on how to warn the next dev(s) that the company is a dumpster fire.
------
For the past week (actual time: three days) I've been writing documentation for work, since there isn't any. It's been okay, I guess. Certainly more interesting than anything else I've done at work in months.
I'm up to 10k words / 67kb of markdown, and I think I'm done. I could easily write another 30k words on everything, but I just can't care enough.
However, what I do care about is warning the next dev(s) about how terrible the place is to work, so I want to add little references or hints or other such things to my writing. To complicate that, there's a contractor dev who said he will edit the document to strip out my commentary and make it "friendly" for the next person. (I can kind of see why: I've been quite honest about the situation of everything, and it's pretty dire. If they read it as-is, they might just walk out the door. I certainly would have.) I'm also going to commit it to the repo, and afaik he doesn't have push rights, so he can't force-push and remove it. (and a force-push by someone else, adding my documentation immediately after I leave... that would be pretty fishy, too.)
Anyway, at someone's suggestion, I added a "three envelopes" reference in the access phrase generator section. I also wrote "Promises made outside of ES6 will not resolve" -- in the warning section of a document almost entirely about Rails. (because the boss has broken every single promise he has ever made me.)
What other hints and subtle warnings could I add?
(And hurry: tomorrow is my last day! ;3)question warnings run run or you'll be well done! pocket full of mumbles documentation hint: gtfo three envelopes16 -
So this guy called me. I hung up at the second 'ring'. He called again and I hung up immediately. I mean without picking up.
Please, get the hint, I'm fucking busy. Leave a message, I'll call you back if needed.
But don't try and contact me a THIRD TIME in a time frame of 1 minute. Not through WhatsApp. That's borderline harassment GO FUCK YOURSELF.11 -

I coded for a whole day (uninterrupted, literally woke up, grabbed my laptop and headphones and started) and suddenly, let wild parent shows up.

My response: As stated before, I have no friends, now leave

"Hey can you help me with my computer?"
Me: you didn't state the issue, what computer, what os, what you have done to fix it, have you even tried rebooting?
"Don't talk like that to me! Now come and help me!"
Me: nope, hint, answer the questions about your issue
"You rude piece of..."
**Starts screaming bla bla bla**
Wow, it has happened before that I treat people wanting help like me trying to debug, but I usually correct myself. I took it way to fucking far this time...15 -
Almond, are you there?

Oh ok, it said you were on mute.

It blows my mind that Google, advertisers, and a lot of companies seem to not understand the concept of a need fulfilled.
Google news: If you notify me of an article, and then I click on that notification, you can assume I read it. And you can also assume that I don't wish to read it again 2hrs later! So stop notifying me!!!
Amazon, AdSense, Facebook, everyone else: just because I bought new headphones, doesn't mean I wanna see ads for headphones. Actually it means the exact opposite. I don't want new headphones. I literally just bought some. And I especially don't want the exact same ones. I already have them.
Somehow, the targeted ads are worse than random. That's annoying.
How is this hard?10 -
Lets check out the dev in you.
Problem: Print "Hello World" in C in such a way that you cannot use any semicolon anywhere in the program.
Try this without using internet.
Hint: You only need to know basics of C.52 -
I never had problems with punctuation marks during coding, especially the notorious semicolons because I've always used an IDE, ain't gotta time to waste on compiler errors.
But today I meet my nemesis, a fucking comma wasted an hour of my precious time, causing my unit tests to fail in Python, my unit tests where expecting a list and the actual value is a tuple, it turned out that there was this trailing comma - which I don't know where the hell it came from - at the end of a function call that returns a list.
I only noticed this freaking comma after Pycharm indicated a conflict between the returned type and the expected type and underlined the culprit, that small invisible fucker 😬.
Thank you Pycharm and type hints in Python 3.
this is why, my fellow devs, you have to use an IDE.
PS: For those of you who aren't familiar with python, a trailing comma at end of a variable turns it into a one element tuple.

soo.. yeah.. I've just solved an annoying bug using only chatgpt.
My first commit in this new project. And it's based on chatgpt.
Literally just saved me from days of reading through kafka docs, auth mechanisms and other stuff. And no, the google did not provide me with a proper answer/hints. The only hint was "the configuration might be wrong". Well alright, but I was NOT using any configuration in the first place...
Fun times ahead :) I might even consider the pro version if it keeps delivering like that.16 -
Doing a distribution center job right now just to pay the bills and had to do voice order picking (with a headset and voice commands etc) today. Well, that didn't go ideal:

A bug reported in 2012: recently created files are not visible when using MTP protocol.
Guess what? I still have this bug on my 2017 phone, like many other people.
Probably has something to do with file cache.
Because obviously 7 years is not enough to fix a stupid bug. Especially when Google is busy implementing all the other features nobody asked for except marketing department4 -

Me setting up Webpack for a project
Error: can't resolve ./src
Guess what? ./src exists. So I go searching for an answer, and it turns out webpack looks for ./src/index.js and if it can't find it then it throws an error.
But the error message is: can't resolve ./src
The issue was reported ages ago but webpack devs never improved the error message
THIS IS WHY WEBPACK SUCKS 💩
Yes it might seem like a little detail but it just makes it all the more obvious that Webpack sucks right from the start when you set up a project the error message is stupid and unspecific3 -
I think there is such a thing as "getting too comfortable with the people you work with".
My boss came over and wanted to show me how to do a new process. We start going through the steps and a question arises. I then IM my team lead, because he's the one who would know the answer, and all I get back from him is sarcastic comments and profanity (he doesn't know my boss is sitting at my comp with me). So I keep trying to get him to be serious, and he just keeps his mouth (well, fingers) going. (He is remote - not in our bldg). I want so badly to shut him up because what if he says something about my boss while she is sitting there? Not that he does that, but at the pace he's going, it no longer would surprise me.
There should be some sort of code to hint to your team to STFU and give a fucking answer when one is needed. Sort of like what kids do to hint that a parent is in the room, but for work?3 -

My fav interview was at my previous job. It was a junior position. The lead was a very friendly and wise guy. He kept pushing me (positively) with subtle hint until I get a code right. After completing each problem he give me elaborate explanation about the meaning of the problem and how to approach it from other angles. It felt like I'm in front of buddha who is making me realize the inner working of the world. Didn’t get 50% of the questions right, still he recruited me because "You were very curious and you were having fun solving problems". Best one and half years of my career.4

🪙 The golden age of tech is coming to an end. We currently live in a world of tech built by engineers and great minds; both Windows and Linux are great in their own ways. PCs are the peak of engineering, both desktops and laptops because of how versatile, powerful and universal they are. They serve engineers, designers and end users. You can do anything you can imagine; because the great people who built it, did it in such way that they themselves could use and enjoy it.
📱 The tech of the future will become ever more limited. The next generation of humans will use Chrome OS gladly and not even feel limited because they never experienced the freedom provided by a true personal computer device. Android OS is already getting ever closer to restricting 3rd party APK installers. Big tech will do everything they can to limit freedoms and make everyone use cloud, where they can charge $ for every damn click.
☎️The consumer-facing tech will become increasingly dumbed-down over time. The programmers and engineers will be still able to use "true" tech, but only for work. In everyday life, they will have to be content with the dumb limited tech.
And there is nothing we can do to stop it.9 -
A few years back, I was a newly hired developer visiting the corporate HQ in NYC. We went to lunch, where the execs ordered a round of drinks.
I commented that drinking during the work day was an odd practice in my experience. The CEO jokingly explained how it made going home to his wife at the end of the day easier (or something to that effect). “You know what I mean?”
To which I reply (with no hint of irony): “No… My life loves me.”

So you heard from that awesome tool that apparantly everybody uses.
Go to the web page:
One single continuous page in 90ies style with random blahblah targetting expert users and various edge cases without context. Some lines about arcane build commands in an unfamiliar language.
Not even a single, comprehensive line, what it does, what it is good for, no minimal example or hint even how to run it.
So you write thousands of lines of dense code, but are not able to drop some first lines of plain, understandable english for people just visiting the first time? How hard could it be? Fuck you, srsly.4 -

I'm debugging a script...
It takes 1+ minute to start because it loads data from remote API and apparently loading 80k objects takes a lot of time, even though I need only headers
I could optimize it. Like, add a local cache. But I will not.
Instead I will waste 1 minute, then another minute, then another minute, each time hoping it's the last pass, but no. I will waste the whole day on it and at the end of the day I will still NOT have the slightest idea why it is slow. That is what will happen, I predict it.

Why do some devs who work for corpos have a superiority complex?

Me: Okay, Bloom Filter anytime?

Got a strange thing today in class, as a teacher in programming. We have a lab where the computers haven't yet their final configuration ended, so the user used by the students is the administrator of the computer. And today, a student calls me and tell "sir, the password isn't the one you gave to us" (temporary the same for each machine until we fix the configuration).
Go to student's place, password incorrect with a hint "you know the code : up, up, down, down... oh, you don't know, huh? Too old! Too bad!"
Password was - off course - "konami".
But... how a student born in 1997 can think he can troll me with the konami code?!
He wasn't even born when I played on the NES as kid!
Sometimes I'd like to teach my students how to fly by tossing them by the windows...1 -

So here I am investigating something our users are claiming. I look up which user the UserId did the change and I see not only the user but also the users password in clear text in a separate field. I thought that field was for a password hint that the user can set up, but I asked around and apparently, no... It's literally the plain text version of the password stored in the database, next to the hash of the password.
Apparently, the users were so impossible to deal with that we added that column and for users that constantly pester us about not knowing their password and not wanting to change it, we added a plaintext password field for them :D2 -

My GOTOs are:
- Check if focus on teamwork is emphasized. Does the company state themselves? Spend a day with the team if possible, see how they work together.
- What tools do they use? Sometimes this will hint you towards whether or not you will encounter a good environment or a jumbled mess.
- Is there organized communication? I know, sometimes there are too many meetings, but that is better than too vew. How often does the team meet, even if just for 10mins? How does management communicate with the team? What ways are provided to give feedback? Are suggestions to improve practices welcome?
I left my last company and joined my current one, where these things work out the way they should. While I liked both projects with respect to development, my mental state has improved dramatically in the new environment. Stress is down, productivity is up. I love my job. -

Only to discover later that large amounts of their code are not thread safe and were only working fine in the past because there were fewer requests, so the chance for two requests happening simultaneously was low5 -

My conversation with Avalara support (API for taxing):
Me: Hey I'm implementing your API for a client. The requests are going through, I get a valid response back but all goods are taxed with $0. Can you please give me a hint what I might be missing?
Sup: You're using Salesforce Commerce Cloud, requests might be blocked through their firewall
Me: I don't think so, here are some sample requests and responses I just created. The object returned matches the one in your API Doc.
Sup: This isn't a system controlled by us, no support.
Me: So how in the world can it be you don't control your own endpoint?
Seriously, if you don't want to help, next time just say fuck you...5 -

For a long time I could not understand how do people put up with watching ads in Android apps. Then it dawned upon me: they grew up like this and they never had a proper classic old-school desktop experience. Back in the day it was unimaginable to have intrusive ads. I will never put up with intrusive ads. I despise it
Now even developer tools have ads, like Docker or NPM8 -

Today I will talk about Android OS being stupid.
Android lets u as a user move installed apps to external storage = microSD card.
However what is stupid about it is that only a small part of the app will be moved. For example, if you have an app taking 400 MB of storage, then "moving" it will move only about 100 MB of data to microSD card, while the remaining 300 MB of data will remain on the internal storage...
In Android 11 this is still not improved. Imagine having 11 versions of OS over 11 years and never making a crucial feature work properly. Meanwhile app sizes grow ever larger
Disappointing.5 -

1️⃣ Why does WhatsApp store a copy of ALL images ever sent? LOCALLY? I thought it is a cloud service. Why would I want to keep gigabytes of data on a device with limited internal storage?
2️⃣ Why no proper multi-device capability on Mobile? Why no voice call on Desktop?

Did a project in my first year of "vocational education"
(in the Netherlands there's different levels of studies)
For some big Corp.
They were amazed by what I had made (really just a simple website) and offered me an internship on the spot. Then they asked when I was finishing my bachelor's (hint: vocational education is one level below) and when I told them I was a first year student of that vocational education they basically told me they aren't allowed to hire anyone that doesn't have or isn't pursuing a bachelor or master degree...
That felt really bad, getting an actual offer based on my skills but be rejected for my level of education.
But it has made me want to prove them I can do it, and so, I am now in my first year of computer engineering.1 -

What I "discovered" recently is, that Android will sometimes update certain apps even if you have auto-update disabled in Play Store.
Yes, just like that. I am not sure what exactly triggers the update, but it is certainly possible.
Just now I have seen that my Netflix app got auto-updated. Which is not a big deal in itself. But taking control out of the user's hands IS a big deal. This needs to stop. ❎10 -

Here is a weird fact I have been thinking about this evening:
Helio X20 was the only mainstream ARM processor that had 10 CPU cores. It was first introduced in 2015, however no more ARM processors with high core count were used since then..
Nowadays smartphone processors have `8` cores max 🤔🧐
I guess 8 cores the reasonable limit for smartphones. Must have something to do with cost-to-performance factor3 -
The human engineers are now about 1 or 2 steps away from creating strong AI. We now have decent drawing AI, decent voice actor AI and a confident bullshit AI. All components are already there. Actual human reasoning is in essence confident bullshitter getting cross-checked a few times. Throw a few confident bullshitter AIs together, make them check each other's outputs, and you have basically human reasoning.
It is terrifying because of the coming implications for our society 🤡 At the same time, I am proud of the engineers who worked hard on the technical advancements for the AI and made amazing progress. I know how it feels to work tirelessly on a complicated technical task 💻🌙4 -

A shitty platform that, although open source, there is no clearly documented way of setting a development environment for it. This pile of crap states clearly that it does NOT support RTL languages. I try to log in via SSH to a remote server. In the beginning all is well. It asks for my password, so I enter the password. Next thing: connection closed by the remote server.
So I wonder what the problem might be... I guess that perhaps I forgot to specify the username. Indeed when I try the 2nd time with my user name added in front of the host name - it works just fine.
But why is there no error message? Why not tell the user what's wrong? "User name is required". Can't be that hard?
Sometimes I see stuff and it just blows my mind why on Earth some things function so poorly. SSH exists for dozens of years yet the error message is not there -> it's guessing time.11 -

You people ever heard of the BeamNG game? The detailed vehicle physics simulation...
The question that has been bothering me lately is: why the hell are BeamNG videos so addictive 🤔 I get those videos sometimes in my YouTube feed; and once I start watching those, I usually cannot stop.
Like, the car with parts stripped from it over time. Or the truck carrying an ever-increasing number of rocks uphill. And the crashes, of course
But the question is: what do I find so fascinating about those videos? Why is it so hard to stop? On the surface, it is nothing special. Just some silly experiments involving vehicle physics

Yeah, so when you create an account just about anywhere nowadays, you need to choose a strong password. Fair enough. But then, some sites/services/systems require a second password, sort of a password hint as an extra security for retrieving your first password in case you forget it. Well OK...That hint question just becomes very *in*secure when you must choose from some extremely stupid presets like "In which town were you born?" or "What was your mother's maiden name?", all of which are trivia that for most people can be easily googled, or looked up on facebook ffs. And these "in which town did this or that happen?" questions? As there is only one town in my country it's not a long shot that I was born in Mariehamn, met my partner in Mariehamn and had my first job in Mariehamn. Security questions for imbecils.4

I hate and despise all governments so much right now. Blunder, waste money. Politicians are rarely held accountable for the bad decisions
People say that anarchy is bad. Like, the streets would be full of thieves and bandits: you walk 10m and you get robbed because there is no police. The real question though, is: do we have any real evidence on this matter? Just something I've been wondering about lately.
Do we have a real-world example where the crime rate actually goes down because of a good decision made by the government? Do we have a historical example of an anarchy society? The way I understand it, people were just more bloodthirsty in the past: many liked the idea of going to war and killing enemies (is fact). Now the culture has changed, but the governments are stuck in the past.17 -
I watched a few reviews for the new nvidia RTX 4070 Ti graphics card. One question on my mind is: why is it so huge?
⏺️4090 is huge -> ok I get it, 450W power is a lot of W
⏺️4080 is huge -> ok I guess, 320 W of power is a still a lot of W; although it should be considerably smaller than 4090 (but it is not? why)
⏺️4070 Ti is huge -> 3 slots size for this graphics card? What the actual hell? This card is rated just 285 W. It makes no sense
I do not get it. The only explanation I can find is that the manufacturer got so lazy they cannot be bothered to design 3 different cooling systems, so they reuse the same cooling system on all graphics cards. RIP4 -

Unguided code style decisions and the whole personal style things sometimes display an intention behind a piece of code. They can hint on semantics and relations between the pieces of data or operations, like it's often the case with grouping that doesn't separate bunch of statements with a blank line. Sometimes, they can even carry an emotional message. Love, hate, grudges, deepest affection for some golden hammer feature of the language, everything is on the table actually. For instance, this is what fear looks like:

I'm so fed up with Codecademy. I payed for the pro, and I admit I haven't been able to consistently use it everyday as I would like. But every fucking time I would be on a lecture of some sort, I swear to fucking to christ it's the most buggy, uninformative piece of shit! And everytime you're in deep into subjects, the information is beyond unclear!
AND GOD FORBID YOU NEED A FUCKING HINT! they leave you to dry saying in the hint that "Look back at the previous sections" or "try to remember the steps you've learned"
No you stupid fucking bitch for a site. I clicked on the hint because I needed an answer as to what I'm doing wrong, and to something that can stir me in the right path. My god....I feel so stupid for giving PRO a chance. I thought maybe it would be nice to have some sort of professional site would be useful.
I swear this early afternoon I was spending fucking forever on the first few lectures of HTML trying to figure out what the actual fuck is wrong with the system fucking up not letting me change directories. And the community was no help whatsoever to the issues at hand.
Again, why the fuck is Codecademy so goddamn buggy!? Sure it may be a fun site to fuck around with to get your feet wet on the free version. But is it too much to ask for some good actual lessons that are being payed for!?
Idk anymore. I'm sticking to just YouTube and other free help. This is the last time I spend a fucking penny to any site that's supposed to teach something valuable.
I feel so upset because I feel like I wasted my money and time on something that I thought could've helped a lot.
If anyone was asking if PRO is worth it....definitely not! Please don't waste money with it! Don't make my mistakes, stick to YouTube and other free sources! The least I can do is warn people about spending money on this site. Trust me it's not worth it. It may not seem bad in the beginning, but once you go deeper it becomes clear the issues.
If anything stick to only free!!rant pro version codecademy frustration codecademy pro waste of time sadness codecademy rant waste of money!!! paid site2 -
So I am struggling with a SQL Query for my Database lecture.
This is the Table Layout:
Users(id:integer, reputation:integer, display_name:string,
day:integer, month:integer, year:integer, location:string,
up_votes:integer, down_votes:integer, age:integer)
This is the task:
Show the set of users who have the highest reputation and the lowest down_votes
than any other user. HINT: there is no user that is better than all other users on each of the
criterion individually. Thus, you need a query that can eliminate users that are worse on both
criteria than some other user (in Economics your query will return what is known as the Pareto
Set).
I have looked up the Pareto Set but I am not really sure how to implement it into SQL.
So does any one of you know how to implement this or could anyone lead me into the right direction?
Help is very appreciated :)12 -
Hey Guys!
Hope to find some help here. So i got a MacBook Pro (2015) from my Workplace and upgraded it to High Sierra. I set everything up and it worked fine untill i did some User configurations. I couldnt access the Settings in preferences because my password was wrong (it wasnt really, but it didnt accept it). So i thought reinstalling would help. I did the reinstall process but got an error at the end of it. “Could not create a reboot partition”. I don’t remember the message exactly. So I have tried several things and hope someone can give me a hint.
- reinstall via cmd + r -> failed
- made a time machine backup from my private MacBook (High Sierra) and put it in my work MacBook -> failed
- recovery from internet -> failed
- external drive with High Sierra installer and booting it from there -> failed
Hope you guys have a clue what to do. Thank you :).8 -
Seems like Windows 11 has some nice improvement for file handling performance; though I am not sure whether they're implemented on the system level or on the Explorer app level. What I have been noticing is that a folder with 25k files in it gets opened in Explorer instantly on Windows 11; while on Windows 10 the same folder was pretty slow to appear

💡 Actual error: process is undeclared.
The actual error has no relation to the error reported by the Rust code checker. So bad7 -
the final season of mr. robot and a sudden usecase had me looking into python again after a long time. forgot way too many basic things. 6 hours to open a csv and applying some regex filters from a json setting file? really? not exactly helpful while fantasizing about a developer career, or maybe the necessary hint to stick to the decent job that pays the bills.2

JavaScript still doesn't have proper types, but eslint insists that I should use let and const instead of var. Thanks for the hint, but when I care to code properly, I will use TypeScript, otherwise I don't care.
Wish the warnings in my editor would be more helpful with less noise by default, without taking time and effort to tune their settings.8 -

I just was wondering, how https://phantombuster.com does all those automations on a scale? I mean, I can surely write some code that will work for one user(may be just for myself), but how do I scale it up for millions of users? how does it work on millions of LinkedIn/Youtube/Twitter etc user sessions?
Can anybody give me a hint?5 -

I need to check 100k tables in the database so I wrote a script... It runs fine for 5 minutes; then suddenly I get an error out of nowhere: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND influxdb-dev.cloud.etc.com. What the helly hell? When I restart my script, the host name is found fine again; after 5 more minutes it crashes again with the same error. I cannot think of a good reason why this happens. Why would the host disappear? RIP6

Windows 11 is here. And there is a bug that prevents it from being installed 🐞
I got "incompatible" error so I downloaded MS compat. checker and it says: need TPM
I go to BIOS and enable TPM. The tool now says YES, compatible. But the Windows update panel still says NO, not compatible.
Bottom line, Microsoft does NOT want people to install Windows 11. If they did, then they would not have silly bugs, such as this one. All they had to do is to clear the compat. flag cache after restart7 -

VS Code terminal is so bad... it is basically the worst part of VS Code; the devs can never fix it
The terminal in VS Code breaks for me all the time; it is so easy to break it; all it takes is change the size of the terminal window and bam, it is broken
The devs should either fix their shitty terminal or remove it entirely because it confuses people; I literally see wrong output from my program because of their terminal1 -

compiled to true. apparently rounding to 8 digits did the trick. quirky was that debug.printing each calculations showed exactly '0.25' for both not giving a hint about some float issue in the first place. ah, and rounding to 4 digits wasn't right either. -
I'd love to have a hint for solving the problem every time, my frustration about the bug is almost the max, so I could stay way more concentrated for extremly shitty bugs.

Your branch and 'origin/foo/bar' have diverged,
and have 2 and 1 different commits each, respectively.
(use "git pull" to merge the remote branch into yours)
git pull
hint: You have divergent branches and need to specify how to reconcile them.
git merge origin foo/bar

Hello everyone,
I've got a somewhat special issue with my setup.
I am running an instance of `lucaslorentz/ caddy-docker-proxy` as proxy that handles certificates and request and proxies them to docker containers that run `abiosoft/caddy:php` to host Laravel based applications. The problem is, that the `abiosoft/caddy` containers do not know it's assigned hostname and thus Laravel's `asset`, `secure_asset` and `url` respectively `secure_url` don't work as they use the internal hostname which would be an IP address and thus requests go to 192.168.240.x instead of example.com.
I am not yet entirely sure where I should tackle this problem and am grateful for every hint.
I am currently also evaluating traefik instead of Caddy-docker-Proxy and Caddys v2 official container instead of abiosoft's Caddy v1 container but I guess, that this wouldn't solve the issue as the container still wouldn't know that it's given Domainname is example.com4 -
So I may be getting a great job offer by the end of this week. The best thing is that it's a remote company since start and they have proper documentation and processes.
The current company has no idea that I am planning to leave. And they are planning some things around me for this month.
Should I hint that I have a job offer hovering around. I don't see anything bad about mentioning that.
1) Even if I don't get the new job, current company might offer to increase salary and accept my demands.
2) I will be able to get out of current job as soon as possible when I get the new job. I don't intend to complete next September at current company.
Any thoughts? Is it wise to mention about leaving before I have confirmation of new job?7 -

Does anyone know a free program for Windows to test RAM throughput? In GB/s

Okay, so, I have a functional snort agent instance, and it's spewing out alerts in it's "brilliant" unified2 log format.
I'm able to dump the log contents using the "u2spewfoo" utility (wtf even is that name lol... Unified2... something foo) but... It gives me... data. With no actual hint as to *what* rule made it log this. What is it that it found?
All I see are IDs and numbers and timings and stuff... How do I get this

🎮 Why do so many videogames have bad anti-aliasing implementation? It is so easy to implement: just draw on a larger texture, then scale back to the target resolution
I've been playing Forza Horizon 4 and League of Legends lately and both games have terrible anti-aliasing; I can see pixels and cringy blur around the edges. Elden Ring is another game where anti-aliasing sucks
I understand that not every user can benefit from anti-aliasing because you need powerful graphics card; but still. Feels bad10 -

I have been using Linux for a while and I get update notification about 3 times per week. I find it annoying. As soon as I plan to get some work done, I get a large notification popup saying "Hey, it's time to install le updates". I find it distracting; especially so because I use my laptop about 3 times per week; so basically EVERY TIME when I'm about to use it, it says "HEY you know what? Time for UPDATES".
Updates on Windows are annoying too; but at least they do not appear as often. I find this unacceptable and I do not know how anyone could think that distracting people from work so often is "ok". This is bad.11 -
The people who thought that providing customers with a template engine to build reports was a good idea - they made a mistake...
Users can't and won't understand a 500-line template file with 'content', 'columns', 'stack' and 'data:image' in it, and nesting levels reaching 10+
Now I have to build those reports with the added complexity of working around template engine limitations.
Can't blame the people who originally invented it. I can see how they might have thought their idea with those templates might have worked out. But it didn't work out, sorry -

I hope one day they will actually fix it but the light of my hope grows dimmer every day.

What's up with white flashes on Windows 11? Will they never get fixed? 🔆☀️💻

Once upon a time I was working with an engineer who loved sed and awk a bit too much. We had data stored in SharePoint that was retrievable via an RSS feed. Said engineer insisted on using curl to grab the feed and sed/awk to parse the HTML ...
I on the other hand suggested using libcurl (primarily for NTLM auth support) and parsing the RSS feed using libxml.
Which engineer do you think management decided supporting?
Hint: Reusability and maintainability were big requirements in this project.1 -
I hoped such times would never come, but YouTube - one of the most visited websites in the world owned by Google - has serious technical issues. Hello there I had a question in mind
I want to customize my telegram desktop client to filter some channel message for just my side
I mean I can delete certain channel message from my client so it doesn't show up in unread message
there are some channels that repost duplicate messages I want to write a filter to exclude them from my chat list
I'm familiar with CPP programming and I've worked with telegram api before.
But I don't know where to start on telegram open source desktop client to implement this feature
can you give me some hint to where should I look at? -
Not sure if a valid cause for a rant; but my memory stick went bad after being used for just 6 months. Bought this memory kit this summer on computeruniverse. Now Windows reports that there are damaged pages on the 1st stick; though the 2nd stick is fine. Patriot Viper with small heatsinks...
What to say... In ye olde days DDR3 worked for years and never went bad 🤔1 -

I am currently trying to set up a unit-test using Python Django framework.
I follow the official documentation step by step. I completed the steps.
It spits out an error: the table does not exist in the database.
Seriously, do you need any more proof that Python is bad? The developers of Python framework cannot even put together a working tutorial. If the unit-test framework requires the database then it should auto-create the tables3 -
A frustration and a piece of advice - two in one...
Do NOT use InfluxDB 2 if you have more than 20 GB of data. I spent hours trying to get it to work, but it's no use. It crashes because it creates too many files to store all the data.
Apparently 20 GB is the limit 🤔💭4
