Found this gem on GitHub:
// At this point, I'd like to take a moment to speak to you about the Adobe PSD format.
// PSD is not a good format. PSD is not even a bad format. Calling it such would be an
// insult to other bad formats, such as PCX or JPEG. No, PSD is an abysmal format. Having
// worked on this code for several weeks now, my hate for PSD has grown to a raging fire
// that burns with the fierce passion of a million suns.
// If there are two different ways of doing something, PSD will do both, in different
// places. It will then make up three more ways no sane human would think of, and do those
// too. PSD makes inconsistency an art form. Why, for instance, did it suddenly decide
// that *these* particular chunks should be aligned to four bytes, and that this alignement
// should *not* be included in the size? Other chunks in other places are either unaligned,
// or aligned with the alignment included in the size. Here, though, it is not included.
// Either one of these three behaviours would be fine. A sane format would pick one. PSD,
// of course, uses all three, and more.
// Trying to get data out of a PSD file is like trying to find something in the attic of
// your eccentric old uncle who died in a freak freshwater shark attack on his 58th
// birthday. That last detail may not be important for the purposes of the simile, but
// at this point I am spending a lot of time imagining amusing fates for the people
// responsible for this Rube Goldberg of a file format.
// Earlier, I tried to get a hold of the latest specs for the PSD file format. To do this,
// I had to apply to them for permission to apply to them to have them consider sending
// me this sacred tome. This would have involved faxing them a copy of some document or
// other, probably signed in blood. I can only imagine that they make this process so
// difficult because they are intensely ashamed of having created this abomination. I
// was naturally not gullible enough to go through with this procedure, but if I had done
// so, I would have printed out every single page of the spec, and set them all on fire.
// Were it within my power, I would gather every single copy of those specs, and launch
// them on a spaceship directly into the sun.
//
// PSD is not my favourite file format.

So today my middle company put a meeting with the new HR.
Meeting subject: you can't poach inside the company.
Context: I resigned, and I'll be taking with me 3 profiles.
HR: If you do take them, we'll take you to court.
Me: Why?
HR: It's poaching and by contract, you can't.
Me: You can show which clause?
HR: That's not the problem.
Me: Also in France, you need to notify the employee as you are denying his right to get a job. And pay him for that.
HR: What? That's none sense! Stop talking and listen.
Me: Ok
HR: We'll sue you and crush you. You'll have so much legal problem that you...
Me: I'll just start recording on my phone, so you say that you accept it and continue your intimidation rant.
HR: What? No!! Stop that.
Me: *stop it* Would you rather have my lawyer with us? Because we'll need to reschedule the meeting.
HR: If you continue that way, we'll tarnish your name and no company will hire you.
Me: You really aren't familiar with IT, right? Because I could delete ALL production. No system work. The BCP will kick in. You will lose one or two days. Then make an article of it, showing what kind of process or security should have been implemented. And I will still get a high pay job!!
HR: You know what? Get out! If you want to go to war, your problem.
Me: Ok, so you'll be getting news from my lawyer by mail.
HR: what?
Me: Yeah, that harassment. And my lawyer will get in touch. And I might also post on LinkedIn. And talk about it in the next events I'm invited.
HR: that's, that's...
Me: freedom of speech. Don't worry I'll write it so it's only viewed as my opinion. Have a nice day.
Two hours later my friend, lawyer, send them a mail and email.
Three hours later the COO calls me. Saying that HR was out of line and that it'll no occur again. It was an error and I should be forgiving.
So now all discussion with HR must be held with my attorney :). And middle company pay for it.6 -
It's midnight here in Paris, France and I just rejected a hook up with a hot girl with the phrase "Sorry I need to debug".

Hi guys, I'm new here, discovered devRant randomly by browsing only. Bit sad I didn't knew about it earlier.
Greetings from France BTW 😄7 -
Some fucker installed a keylogger on my Ubuntu laptop at home and registered it as a systemd service. From Wireshark, it's sending each keystroke to a server in France using irc. Tried accessing the server but the moron shut it down immediately. It's the last time am fucking installing code from prebuilt binaries. If I can't build it from source then fuck off your sniffing cunt. I was about to log in into a database from that machine.
UPDATE: I found the actual file sending the keystrokes but it's binary. Anyone know how I can decode a binary file?36 -
I got laid off from my previous position as a Software Engineer at the end of June, and since then it was a struggle to find a new position. I have a good resume, about 4 years of professional dev experience and 5 years of experience in the tech industry all together, and great references.
As soon as I got laid off, I talked to my old manager at my previous company, and he said that he'd love to hire me back, but he just filled his last open spot.
In order to prepare, I had my resume reviewed by a specialist at the Department of Labor, and she said that it was one of the better resumes that she had seen.
There aren't a huge amount of dev jobs in my area, and I got a TON of recruiter emails. But they were all in other states, and I wasn't interested in moving.
I applied to all the remote and local positions I could find (the ones that I was qualified for,) and I just got a bunch of silence and denials from all my applications. I had a few interviews that went great, but of course, those companies decided to put the position on hold so they could use the budget for other things.
The silence and denials were really disconcerting, and make you think that something might be wrong with you or your interviewing abilities.
And then suddenly, as if the floodgates had opened, I started getting a ton of callbacks and interviews for both local and remote opportunities. I don't know if the end-of-year budget surpluses opened up more positions, but I was getting a lot of interest and it felt amazing.
Another dev position opened up at my previous company, and I got a great recommendation for that from my former manager and co-workers. I got a bunch of other interviews, and was moved onto the next rounds in most of them.
And finally, I got reached out to regarding a remote position I applied for a while ago, and the company was great about making the interview process quick and efficient. Within 2 weeks, I went from the screening call, to the tech call, and to the final call with the CTO. The CTO and I just hung out and talked about cars/boats/motorcycles for half the interview, and he was an awesome guy. AND THEN I GOT AN OFFER THE NEXT DAY!
The offer was originally for about the same amount as I made at my previous job, but I counteroffered up a good amount and they accepted my counteroffer!
It's a great company with offices all over the world, and they offer the option to travel to all those offices for visits if you want. So if you're working on a project with the France team and you think that it'd be easier to just work with them face-to-face, then the company will pay to fly you out to Paris for the week. Or you can work completely remotely. They don't mind either way.
I'm super excited to work with them and it feels great to be back in the job world.
Sorry about the long post, but I just wanted to tell my story and help encourage anybody out there who's going through the same thing right now.
Don't get discouraged, because you WILL find an awesome opportunity that's right for you. Get somebody to go over your resume and give you improvement recommendations. Brush up on your interviewing skills. Be sure to talk about all the projects you've worked on and how they positively impacted people and/or companies.
This is what I found interviewers responded the best to: Be sure to emphasize that you love learning new things and that you love passing along that knowledge to other people, and that your goal is to be an approachable and reliable source of knowledge for the company and to be as helpful as possible. It's important to be in a position that encourages both knowledge growth and knowledge sharing, and I think that companies really appreciate that mindset in a team member.
Moral of the story: YOU GOT THIS!10 -
Will be going through Poland, Germany, France, Holland. Pic related. Shout out to all our Europe friends on devRant!11

I don't understand people who watch football at all... Yesterday at around 4pm France time, France was playing against Denmark I think, so my boss had the brilliant idea of making some kind of party so everyone in the company would watch that. He brought beer, make up, food and so on.
Guess what, pretty much all my coworkers stopped working on their programming projects and went to watch it, I was the only one who stayed in my office and worked on my project, yeah, i'd rather finish my PHP project than watch a bunch of brainlets running after a ball.
Boss was nice enough to bring me a drink though lol14 -

Remember Apple's initiative to scan photos on user's devices to find child pornography?
Today I finally decided to research this.
The evidence is conflicting.
For context, the database of prohibited material is called CSAM (child sexual abuse material).
“If it finds any CSAM, it will report the user to law enforcement.”
— Futurism
“Apple said neither feature would compromise the security of private communications or notify police.”
— NPR
CSAM initiative is dead. It won't scan photos in iCloud. It won't scan photos on your device. It will be a feature that only works in some countries, only on children's devices, and it will be opt-in. It will only work for iMessage attachments.
This is what Apple actually said at https://www.apple.com/child-safety:
- “Features available in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, UK, and U.S.”
- “The Messages app includes tools to warn children when receiving or sending photos that contain nudity. These features are not enabled by default. If parents opt in, these warnings will be turned on for the child accounts in their Family Sharing plan.”
News outlets telling people they will be automatically reported to authorities, and then telling there can be false-positives is a classic example of fearmongering. I hate this. Remember, anger and fear are the most marketable emotions. They make you click. News are and will always be worded to cause these emotions — it brings in money.
When presented with good news, people think they're not being told the truth. When presented with bad news, even when they're made up, people think it's the truth that's being hidden from them. This is how news works.
Now, a HUGE but:
Apple is a multi-billion dollar corporation. There is no such thing as good billionaires. Corporations will always wait for chances to invade privacy. It's like boiling the frog — one tiny measure here, one there, and just like this, step by step, they will eliminate the privacy completely. It's in their interest to have all the data about you. It brings control.
This is not the first time Apple tries to do shit like this, and it definitely won't be the last. You have to keep an eye on your privacy. If you want your privacy in the digital age, it's necessary to fight back. If you live in Europe, take the action and vote for initiatives that oppose corporate tyranny and privacy invasions.
Privacy on the internet is one thing, but scanning people's devices is a whole another thing. This is unacceptable no matter the rationale behind it. Expect more measures like that in the near future.
Research Linux. Find a distro that suits you. The notion that you can't switch because of apps/UI/etc. may be dictated by our brain's tendency to conserve energy and avoid the change.
Take a look at mobile distros like Graphene OS and LineageOS. The former only supports Pixel devices, the latter supports a wide range of devices including OnePlus and Xiaomi. They'll have FAR better privacy than iPhones.
Consider switching. It's easier than you think. Yes, it's me who's saying this. I do and will always protect people/companies from unjust criticism, and I consider myself an Apple fangirl for personal reasons related to my childhood, yet I won't fight blindly. CSAM initiative is a valid criticism, and there's nothing preventing me from saying this is unacceptable, and Apple deserves the backlash they got.11 -
So, after weeks of reading spicy rants from all of you, I finally decided to join your community ; even if I'm only a student, I've encountered some solid crap in my internships.
Let's go back in time bois. Two years ago, I started my first intership at a Fortune 500 company (this doesn't exists in France, but whatever, this is nearly the same category). I was supposed to build some file sharing system for the office. Before getting into it, I briefly thought aboyt what technos I could use to build it and make a sweet interface for my co-workers, in 10 weeks, and not a single another day.
Expectations
> Nice team with devs that I could ask things about and learn solid tricks that would even amaze David Copperfield
> Having a nice dev environment
Reality
> Alone on this project
> No fucking dev environment, I had to build everything on Notepad
> No CI
> No SCM
> And, the worst, Ladies and Gentlemans,
I FUCKING HAD TO WORK IN A SINGLE FILE IN A CLOSED ENVIRONMENT.
NO WEBSERVER, NO DEDICATED SPACE.
I HAD TO REQUEST A SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENT IN A CLOSED CUSTOM CMS THAT WAS SERVING FILES, SO THIS FORMAT COULD BE READ ON FOLDER OPENING IN IE9 (FIREFOX FORBIDDEN).
YOU HAD TO MIX HTML, CSS AND JS IN A SINGLE FILE. NO SERVER-SIDE LANGUAGES, ONLY STATIC LINKS, NO FRAMEWORKS (if we can call jQuery, Bootstrap, Semantic UI and all these thinks "Frameworks").
> mfw at the end of the intership13 -
MOTHERFUCK. FUCKING WINDOWS DID IT AGAIN TABARNAK!
Today, I was hoping to study some DB optimization for an exam tomorrow. How foolish of me to think that MOTHERFUCKING FUCKTARD WINDOWS WOULD NOT CHOOSE THIS EXACT MOMENT TO INSTALL THE FUCKING ANNIVERSARY UPDATE. Because it di. It took 2 hours to insert it's fucking update in my ass. FUCK.
I don't know why devs would choose to work for the devil, but for those who did create this update system, I HOPE YOU STEP ON LEGO BRICKS AND THAT YOUR AUDIO IS ALWAYS OUT OF SYNC WITH YOU VIDEO ON NETFLIX.6 -

If programming languages were countries, which country would each language represent?
Disclaimer: its just a joke
Java: USA -- optimistic, powerful, likes to gloss over inconveniences.
C++: UK -- strong and exacting, but not so good at actually finishing things and tends to get overtaken by Java.
Python: The Netherlands. "Hey no problem, let'sh do it guysh!"
Ruby: France. Powerful, stylish and convinced of its own correctness, but somewhat ignored by everyone else.
Assembly language: India. Massive, deep, vitally important but full of problems.
Cobol: Russia. Once very powerful and written with managers in mind; but has ended up losing out.
SQL and PL/SQL: Germany. A solid, reliable workhorse of a language.
Javascript: Italy. Massively influential and loved by everyone, but breaks down easily.
Scala: Hungary. Technically pure and correct, but suffers from an unworkable obsession with grammar that will limit its future success.
C: Norway. Tough and dynamic, but not very exciting.
PHP: Brazil. A lot of beauty springs from it and it flaunts itself a lot, but it's secretly very conservative.
LISP: Iceland. Incredibly clever and well-organised, but icy and remote.
Perl: China. Able to do apparently almost anything, but rather inscrutable.
Swift: Japan. One minute it's nowhere, the next it's everywhere and your mobile phone relies on it.
C#: Switzerland. Beautiful and well thought-out, but expect to pay a lot if you want to get seriously involved.
R: Liechtenstein. Probably really amazing, especially if you're into big numbers, but no-one knows what it actually does.
Awk: North Korea. Stubbornly resists change, and its users appear to be unnaturally fond of it for reasons we can only speculate on.17 -
Hello everyone,
I am a french student and I was wondering if college sucks everywhere ...
This is my third college year and I have the feeling that I am wasting my time.
I am in a quite good engineering school but most of the programming courses suck because «teachers» are clueless about the course that they give.
I am not here to tell that «I am better than them blabla» but I just wanted to know if the quality of education has slightly dropped not only in France.
I am really interested in your opinion, feel free to debate in the comments :)21 -
Hello everyone, it's my first post here, I needed to feel welcomed :D, any devs from France here? I will be happy to make some dev friends, actually I know none except of my colleagues..:s49
-
Worst exp. on a collab/group project?
Had a few, here is one.
Worked with a dev team (of two devs) in Norway to begin collaboration on providing a portal into our system (placing orders, retrieving customer info, inventory control, etc)
They spoke very good English, but motivation was the problem. Start the day around 10:00AM...take a two hour lunch...ended the day at, if I was lucky, 4:00PM (relative to Norway time). Response time to questions took days, sometimes weeks. We used Skype, which helped, but everything was "Yea...I'll do that tomorrow...waiting on X....I have a wedding to go to, so I'll finish my part next week."
I didn't care so much, I had other projects to do, but the stakeholders pounded me almost everyday demanding a progress report (why aren't you done yet...etc..etc.)
The badgering got so bad I told the project owner (a VP) if he wanted this project done by the end of the year, the company would have to fly me to Norway so I personally push things along.
When real money was on the line, he decided patience was warranted.
A 3 month project turned into 9, and during a phone meeting with the CEO in December
O: "Thanks guys, this project is going great. We'll talk again in February. Bye."
PM: "Whoa...what! February!"
<sounding puzzled>
O: "Um..yes? It's Christmas time. Don't you Americans take off for Christmas?"
PM: "Yes, but not until Christmas. Its only December 12th. Your taking the whole month of December and January for Christmas?"
O:"Yes, of course. You Americans work too hard. You should come over here and see how we celebrate. Takes about a month so we can ease back into the flow of things."
<Jack is the VP>
PM: "Jack wanted this project completed by the end of the year, that is what everyone agreed to."
O:"Yes, I suppose, but my plane is waiting on me. Not to worry, everything will be fine."
<ceo hangs up>
PM: "Oh shit..oh shit..oh shit. What are you going to do!?"
Me: "Me!?..not a darn thing. Better go talk with Jeff."
<Jeff is the VP>
J: "This is unacceptable. You promised this project would only take a few months. I told you there would be consequences for not meeting the deadline."
PM:"But..but...its not our fault."
J: "I don't care about fault. I care about responsibility. I've never had to fire anyone for not meeting a deadline, but .."
Me: "Jeff, they are in Norway and no one is working this project for the next two months. You've known for months about them dragging their asses on this project. We're ready to go. Services have been tested and deployed. Accounting has all the payment routing ready. Only piece missing is theirs."
J: "Oh. OK. Great job guys. I guess we'll delay this project until February."
<leave the office>
PM: "Holy shit I'm glad you were there. I thought I was fired."
Me: "Yea, and that prick would have done it not giving a crap that it's Christmas."
<fast forward to Feb>
O: "Our service provider fell through, so I'm hosting with another company. You guys know PHP? Perl? I don't know what they called it, but it sounded so cool I bought the company."
PM: "You bought what? Are we still working with Z and B?"
O:"Yea, sort of. How's your German? New guy only speaks German."
PM: "Um, uh... no one here speaks German"
O:"Not to worry, I speak German, French, and Italian. I'll be your translator."
PM: "What? French and Italian?"
O: "On my trip to France I connected with a importer who then got me in touch with international shipper in Italy. I flew over there and met a couple really smart guys than can help us out. My new guy only speaks German, J only speaks French, and R speaks Italian, Russian, and a little English. Not to worry, I'm full time on this project. You have my full attention."
We believe the CEO has/had some serious mental issues, including some ADD. He bailed within the first month (took another vacation to Sweden to do some fishing) and left me using Google Translate to coordinate the project. Luckily, by the end, the Norwegian company hired a contractor from England who spoke German and hobbled together the final integration.3 -
Tl;dr: I do not care. Just read it or fuck off.
A friend of mine who is a paki classmate, as well, had applied for the same "Ausbildung" offer as me half a year ago.
The company is based in Germany, but is working in the US, France, UK, Turkey, China, [...], too.
After 2 interviews, they told us to contact us back within the next week. We have had our interviews on Sundays.
In the list of all candidates I was the second best. The top candidate was my classmate. The third best candidate was a guy who was involved in the last interview with both, me and my paki friend.
The candidates list was not shown to everyone else, but my paki friend.
They wanted to give him the job. [That is a big company who is creating a new dev team and expanding their IT building. Nonetheless they only accept only one candidate.]
My classmate had been given a letter that he had to sign within the same hour he was with the managers. He discussed it and said that he has other offers open and want to compare them first. They gave him a timespan of only 1 day afterwards to sign it.
He told me he is going to decline it and he did.
Normally, I should have been the person who gets the letter to sign to be accepted for the job, but no.
After letting me wait for almost 2 weeks, they sent me an mail (they usually sent ordinary letters to invite me to interviews lol) in which they said that I am unfortunately not taken for the job yada yada yada and that they wish me luck for my future.
Fuck yourselves. How about that?
I was the second best candidate. The best candidate did not want the job yet you fucking morons do this type of shit. You want the best for me?
I want the worse for you. Death to both of you managers who sucked all of my energy, patience and time.
I am really fucking pissed rn21 -
I once saw this comment inside two embedded empty loop :
// WHY, OH GOD WHY!
Turns out somebody deleted the content but not the loop. The next dev added the comment but kept the loop. -
I mentor two profiles (started in their master first year), and for 3 years: taking them with me when I have a job change and applying ShuHaRi to teach them. They are my firsts mentorees in France, and they are finishing the course.
And I'm SO proud of them, they'll be leaving my side (changing job). And starting their own journey!!
They'll go to very good companies, for really good jobs/teams. I gave them tears and blood for 3 years and now they are riping the results of their perseverance, hard work and commitment.
It's one of the things that I love in my job. Being able to do that, and to see them grow it so cool!!
On the other hand, I'll lose have to replace them... And it'll be difficult for the company to find good profiles. And I'll start looking for a new mentoree to follow.2 -
WORST: moved from Canada to France and went from a company with agile methods to one without methods.
A 8 months nightmare...
So much useless meeting, for no result
A drupal project... with a junior team with no drupal experience at all.
And a general "i don't give a fuck" feeling from everyone.
BEST: My new job. Building from scratch a Team with agile methods, backed by my hierarchy.3 -
I often find that deadlines are "conjured up" with no bearing on the tasks at hand. It has to be done by this date because the Client goes to France for 2 weeks. Piss off.1
-
Not dev related.
I have only traveled to the places the Army send me to.
I didn't wanted to go to those places.
But there are a group of countries I have been dreaming of visiting them since I was a child. One is Spain. I would kill to go to Spain and see many of the landmarks that exist in that gorgeous country.
The other, is France. And one landmark that I always wanted to see was the cathedral of Notre Dame. Now, the reports I have seen regarding this make me believe that it can be restored, since the central spire that was not saved had already been added during a restoration project some time ago. The entire wooden interior? Lost. Bell towers are good and a couple of other things as well. I have mad respect for French people, and know they will need to do whatever it takes to get this done, and French business magnates have already started pledging to rebuild.
What pains me is that it will not be the same, and I feel time coming down on me as the places I dream of visiting face the possibility of similar tragedies happening to them.
I guess I have to hurry up.6 -
I left my country (France) because of the working conditions that are absolutely terrific in software engineering.
Basically, 80% of the time you will be hired by agencies which rent you in a dishonest way to other companies. Half of the later use the agencies services because they are scared by the work code, which is tough but fair, and the other half can’t hire because the agencies put a lot of money to get the engineers and make money by renting employees.
Most of the companies you will work in in France will have outdated stack, and an awful bureaucratic hierarchy.
Your boss will suspect you do nothing.
There is also an untold competition taking place in every companies : who will stay the longer in the office, sometimes taking place until 8pm.
I moved to the UK, the country is absolutely awful, but the working conditions for engineers are a way better, more realistic.12 -
Talk about data protection, I am fucking furious!! A hotel i stayed in recently has sent an email with a scan of my passport and credit card. Do I have any legal rights to fuck them up the arse? The hotel is in france.1
-
Damn. Forgot Europe uses different plugs to the UK, and on a work trip in France. 3 days without charging the laptop...18
-
I don't know if this is the same thing everywhere over the world, but, in France, where I live, there's something that infuriates me on so many levels.
Dear HRs,
When you're processing through a recruitement process, you'll publish a job offer. In 95% of these offers, I notice things that follows the same pattern : "We require a highly trained developer in [insert language 1], especially with the [insert a framework from language 2] framework". This often happens when you're talking about Java in first place, but then switching to Javascript.
Please, dear HRs,
GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER ! I don't know, ask to some of your developers to review your offer, to spot these beginner mistakes. This is an automatic turn-off for me when I notice this king of bullsh*t in job offers, and I understand that the person that wrote this offer has no fucking idea of the business his/her company is dealing with.
Later, these people are those who will interview you with generic IT questions, that they have no idea about what a correct answer might be, and they will only check if your answer matches what is written on their cheat sheet. If you're lucky enough, some people from the actual business will be with the interview crew, so you can actually expect some kind of understanding.
*angrily goes back to looking for a job*4 -
Y'all probably remember the terrible selfie of the Zuck with the Eiffel Tower announcing the Metaverse for France? I just had the thought, that it is certainly cheaper for me to buy a plane ticket to Paris and make an actual selfie with the Tower, than to buy a Quest Pro headset.4

Sometimes when I have a 10s break, I think about what I did to get here, and what to do to get... somewhere alive (if possible)
6 years ago, I got my high school diploma in letters.
5 years ago, my depression started while I went to a development / management school. Dropped off one year before graduation, but I prefered to stay alive than having this diploma in my coffin.
1 year ago, I got this (kind of shitty but it pays well but it has drupal so fuck) job and my depression ended.
In two weeks, I'll get back to school for this last one year that I'm missing, so I'll finally get a better diploma.
Within 4 years maximum, I'll leave France to start a new / better / better paid life in Canada.
One hell of a ride, ain't it?5 -
Today I wanted to activate the gzip compression on the site of a customer before delivery.
Unfortunately the hosting service (the most popular in France) did not activate this module on its servers. Why in 2016, this module is not enabled by default !15 -
The site I work on is a market where you can buy magnets for dolors, insomniaque, bla bla bla (I don't believe a sec in this).
Just saying that to settle that 80% of our customers are +45 years old. They weren't born with a computer in their hands, and they sometimes manage to make a lot of mess in the site.
We are based in France, and we sell the most in France (no shit) and Switzerland. And this is the third time that a Swiss pass a command, puts all her address in Switzerland EXCEPT for the country (still on France) so she doesn't have to pay the shipping fee. I should do something about that, like a regex when verifying the zip code, but I have more urgent work to do, and the best has to come.
This smartass doesn't know she is the joke, because by saying she is in France, she has to pay the VAT that she wouldn't have if she said she was in Switzerland. She buys in general for around 350 €, so she has ~ 70€ (20%) in VAT, and she would only pay 14€ in shipping fee.
Maybe one day she'll see how dumb she is (my boss already mailed her so she pays attention to it, no change). But I think I would have set the regex by then. -
So I enventually spent 2 years working for that company with a strong b2b market. Everything from the checkouts in their 6 b2c stores to the softwares used by the 30-people sales team was dependant on the main ERP shit home-built with this monstruosity we call Windev here in France. If you don't know it just google and have some laugh : this is a proprieteray FRENCH language. Not french like made by french people, well that too, but mostly french like the fucking language is un fucking french ! Instructions are on french, everything. Hey that's my natural language okay, but for code, really ?
The php website was using the ERP database too, even all the software/hardware of the massive logistic installation they had (like a tiny Amazon depot), and of course the emails of all employees. Everything was just handled by this unique shitty and so sloooooow fucking app. When there was to many clients on the website or even too many salespeople connected to the ERP at the same time, every-fuckin-piece of the company was slowing down, and even worse facing critical bugs. So they installed a monitor in the corner of a desk constantly showing the live report page of Google analytics and they started panic attacks everytime it was counting more than 30 sessions on the website. That was at the time fun and sad to observe.
The whole shit was created 12 years ago and is since maintened locally by one unique old-fashion-microsoft dev who also have to maintain all the hardware of all the fucking 150+ people business. You know, when the keyboard of anyone is "broken" cause it's unplugged... That's his job too. The poor guy was totally overstressed on a daily basis and his tech knowledge just saddly losts themeselves somewhere in the way. He was my n+1 in a tech team of 3 people : him, a young and inexperimented so-called "php developer" who was in charge of the website (btw full of security holes I discovered and dealed with when I first arrive at the job), and myself.
The database was a hell of 100+ tables of business and marketing data with a ton of specific logic added on-the-go during years. No consistent data model or naming. No utf8. Fucked up relations that ends with queries long enough to fill books. And that's not all, all the customers passwords was just stored there uncrypted. Several very big companies and administrations were some of these clients. I was insisting on the passwords point litterally all the time, that was an easy security fix and a good start... But no, in two years of discussions on the subject I never achieved to have them focusing on other considerations than "our customers like that we can remind them their password by a simple phone call if they lost it". What. The. Fuck. WHATTHEFUCK!
Eventually I ran myself out of this nightmare. I had a few bad jobs already, and worked on shitty software already. But that one really blows my mind (and motivation for a time too). Happy it's over.1 -
OH
MY
GAAWWWWWD
The funniest thing happened today. I was helping a teammate rebase his branch onto master. Since his root was a merged local branch with 3 commits already in master, but squashed, we had to do an interactive rebase. So we have 3 commits to drop, and one to pick. He was using vsCode on windows, so he got vi to edit the rebase. I told him to change the first three pick for the letter d (alias for drop). Since he was not too familiar with vi, he only changed the first letter. I was like : dick is not a valid command, it's just d. Then he removed it and did the same thing again! When he finally understood, we both died of laughter, and so my ghost is now writting this rant. In the bus. Laughing like a crazy person. 😎 -
Hi there ! These awesome stickers have just arrived in France, I'm the happiest girl right now ! Thank you all for the 20 +1's on my rant 8)

New York Councilman Proposes Bill That Would Grant NYC Workers 'Right To Disconnect'
"(...) advocating for the rights of employees to stop answering work-related emails and other digital messages, like texts, after official work hours. (...) got the idea from France, where a bill passed early last year by the Ministry of Labor requires companies of over 50 employees to define out-of-office email rules. (...) And the New York version of the "Right to Disconnect" bill includes exemptions for jobs that require 24-hour on-call periods."

At my last job, I created a Google Map for a client, where you could click on any department from France, and it would tell you about all the antennas (think "outpost") of his society. I used a Google Fusion Table where I registered everything: the datas to display, the coordinates for every departments and for every region.
I then wrote a 15-pages long document to tell how to maintain that, since I used my personal Google account to create the map. Anyone having a full access to the website should be able to recreate the map from nothing and witout writing a single line of code.
Then I switched project, the company kind of fucked me over, and I just received a mail saying that Google Fusion Table will be put down in a year.
I just hope they didn't receive the mail. -

I actually never felt the need to scream at a co-worker so let's talk about that time a co-worker screamed at me instead.
tl;dr : some asshole boss screamed and threatened me because someone else's project was shit and didn't work.
Context: I was in my third year of school internship (graded) and my experience is C, C++, C#, Python all in systems programming, no web.
I was working as an intern for a shit company that was selling a shit software to hospitals (though not medically critical, thank God) the only tech guy on site was the DBA (cool guy) the product was maintained by a single dev in VB from his house, the dude never showed up to work (you'll understand why) and an other intern who couldn't dev shit.
I was working with the DBA on an software making statistical analysis from DB exports, worked nice, no problems here if we forget the lack of specs or boundaries (except must work in ieShit).
The other intern was working on something else (don't ask me what it is) I just remember it was in GWT before the community revived it. His webapp was requesting the company http server for a file instead of having one of it's java servlet to fetch it (both apps ran on sane server) which caused a lot of shit especially CORS error. That guy left (end of contract) and leaves his shit as is, boss asked me to deploy the app, I fiddle with it to see if it works and when I find out it doesn't then that asshole starts screaming at me in front of every other employee present, starts threatening to burn me in the tech world and have me thrown out of my school for no goddamn reason than the other dude's project doesn't work.
After the screaming I leave and warn my school immediately.
I guess that's why the other dev never came to work.
I had three weeks of internship left, that I did from home and worked probably less than 2 hours a day so suck it asshole.
Still had a good grade because I was reviewed by the DBA and he was happy with the work I did.
It was only later that I realized that what he did was categorizing as harassment (at least in France) and decided that never again this would happen without a response from my lawyer.1 -
I would like to rant one more time about my internship.
I began in July, the first. That's my sister who helped me to find this internship and I was a little scared about how bad it could be.
I came at the office, my boss told me that I would work in an "Innovation lab", an apartment where people works on projects that are less corporate than the enterprise's ones.
To me, it was amazing. So I came in this apartment, it was like a dream. I didn't know that I would have such luck to be in this environment : kitchen, sofas, beds, many decorations for all political ideologies, ideas. There was some decorations that were about weed and many cool things for the young guy I am.
The lab's leader told me that it was a very free environment and all the awesome stuff I could use.
Then they showed me where I would work.
We were two interns employed as web developers. We had a complete room for us.
Then we began to work there, and I was presented to my internship tutor.
He gave me some instructions but told me that I had a week before the project begin.
Here began the troubles.
We waited a complete week without having any instructions. Then we began to build something in PHP with our knowledge and the informations someone from the lab gave us.
When finally we had news from the project, two weeks later, we learned that the project would be built with ASP. NET.
Here we go, I learn ASP. NET alone. I have many problems and nobody helps (even if the problem comes from enterprise's API/Framework). I finally make something usable with no help, after I discovered that my mate wasn't developer at all and just took an option for her classes which forced her to get an internship.
She had 3 month left, I had 6.
Then when the project really began, nobody came to verify what I was doing and on a meeting, they said that I was doing nothing.
The boss even became mad on us because he couldn't see what we were doing (we're back end developers).
I asked for help to the developers of the enterprise and someone came, sad to have to help an internship, and learned some tricks but nothing else.
To have a concrete explanation of what DDD was, I had to ask 4 times for help.
Finally I had something that could receive data from the connected hives we are working on and store them into a database in the architecture of the enterprise.
Then, they wanted me to try an API for them. I tried, and it wasn't working at all. So they make me still wait to change my whole architecture when the API will be released.
Recently, I was told that I would never do the front-end of the project (which was an horror because of the fantasm of the lab leader). Then they realized that my late wasn't a programmer. So they asked me to make a prototype for the front-end. I did for a presentation.
Then they didn't tell me the device they would use for the presentation and it was an iPhone 7. Idk why, safari couldn't display what IE can.
They blamed me for having done a bad work. It wasn't my job. I did it to help because they can't find a fucking front-end developer with a little more experience than me.
Actually, I am an alone developer since my mate is gone and the lab leader don't want me to show up because she considers me as a shame.
I asked to be moved back in the office of the enterprise, they agreed and said it was a 2-weeks delay. It's the Thursday of the second week and I have no news. I send mails to my tutor, even SMS, he doesn't answer me. They didn't call me to give me my pay with a week late. And the person who is responsible doesn't answer me neither. I came to see her, but she wasn't available. I'm now alone in a desk, waiting the time to pass.
Fucking this shit.
I'm in France.
EDIT : I forgot to say that I can't use the sofas or bed because I'm allergic to cats and there were 3 cats. Now there is still one and this beast vomits and poos everywhere in the house...7 -

It's a brand new year - and my first email comes in telling me the app is broken because they didn't receive any push notification (....no push notification was sent from them), the web cams don't work (....they've changed all the links to the webcams and now they're surprised it doesn't work in the app) and the app isn't available in France (the app is literally available in France).
Oh and if a user changes their font sizes in their mobile settings, it doesn't always look "very good" in the app.......5 -
I have a new job in Spain. I'm from France.

I live in Italy and in here we all write the date like we're French...
What's up with these "locale" not working properly?7 -
As the saying goes "beggars can't be choosers" and I need to get a job.
I got approached by a recruiter in LinkedIn who had attached a PDF brochure.
It seems OKish, but the only part that worries me is "step 3" of recruitment process:
"Invitation to France and have a face-to-face technical interview and meet the team."
Will I be out of bounds if I ask the technical interview (if I ever make it that far) take place into Skype?
There are some savings, but going to France (somewhere between Cannes and Nice in summer period!!!) just for an interview that I might fail is a big gambit for me.8 -
New on HS Robotics team (we went to worlds last year —> we’re good). I come from France.
The lead programmer say that we are gonna stop coding the robot in Java and start C++ this year, so naturally I’m excited!
Lead programmer just told us we’re actually staying with Java... fuck.4 -
I was finishing compiling the linux kernel in tty mode for a school project in the subway cuz the class was over and it was not finished. A guy came to me and said : I used to do that, but on a Mac. Then he left. I was like : wtf do you think I'm doing? You don't compile the linux kernel on a fucking Mac. And why would you mention it was a Mac anyway?I guess he just did ls -al on his Mac in tty.6

All Russian luxury brands are scam. And I mean ALL of them. No matter if it says "made in England" or "made in France" on the package, it's still a scam if it's Russian deep inside. It's just the regular shit repacked and sold at 20x the price.
Here's the algo:
1. You lookup the brand name that claims to be luxury
2. If it has something to do with Russia (Russian executives, etc) — it's a scam.
This doesn't cover the regular, non-luxury brands. AK is still a good weapon, KMS is still a good windows 10 crack :)11 -
So the free WiFi at the Paris airport CDG bugged out for me earlier. Since it doesn't allow you to sign out, I had Schrodinger's WiFi as the login page said I'm connected but I wasn't (nothing worked).1

So last time, when HR asked for a meeting I thought they knew who'll be leaving with me. But there is only rumors saying "CTO is poaching inside his team".
And I also learned from the a paralegal, who talk too much, that they just want to fuck with me.
So new course of action: how can I fuck with them? All week end thinking about it. And today, a big competitor, offered me the VP Engineering!!!
So I'll try to make them use their Non-Competition clause.
In France you can set a couple of main competitors and the employee can't work for them for a couple of years. And you have to pay the employee the full salary he could earn during that time (two years of salary). As the employee, you have to disclose this information (you want to sign with the competitor) with your current company and they have a couple of week to decide if they want to use the clause.
So I'm starting to see how I can scare them enough to make them use this clause.
I know it's not cool, but I enjoy so much fucking with them!!!10 -
I never had a good boss, I've got two of the worst stereotypes of boss :
- the exigeant non-tech thinking he knows tech that asked to make an Android app for 1000€ and forgot to say he wanted an iOS app also
- The typical "fonctionnaire" (don't know if there is an equivalent in English, it's a state worker in France) manager, who thought his work was the only important work, who made me do a work I would have done in two weeks in 6 month1 -
Banned from travel
I was going to go to France this month to meet with the people of my company and have physical training and ended up finding out that I have military service when I went to renew my passport.
Since I found out I have become extremely devastated, I either have to serve for 1 year or wait 2 years after I turn 30 in order to pay a fine and be able to get out of this fucking prison, the worst thing is I had planned this trip with my manager in December and had no idea about this shit, I also contacted my friends in europe to plan a meetup and then it all went down the drain.13 -
We are at the end of the school year, at least in France.
This is my recap of this shitty year.
My school try to teach programming, and that’s just a try.
Some of the dudes do not event know what a variable was.
For a second year university diploma, they don’t teach OOP, no Git, no DP, no JS, no clean code or whatever.
So at the end of the year, you’ll be able to code in procedural, no versioning, spaghetti code and a big mess in folder structure, lack of interactivity because of poor JS knowledge.
Well a codebase which makes you crying blood, literally.
And that’s what a second year university diploma ...
Fortunately for the most curious there’s so much to learn out of the school but, damn, why are some schools so retarded ?
For almost 8k€/year you just receive a piece of paper and you’re still a shit in your *suppose to be* job.8 -
Non english-native devs - when you work with foreign customers, do they insist on using your name as it is pronounced in your country, or do they prefer to use English substitutes?
I mean - I'm from Poland. We have a call with a guy from France and he goes on and calls everyone as it is in Polish, but sometimes I know it would be easier for him to go for English names (we can translate them easily, no one would be offended, I guess)
Is it the case in your work? :v19 -
Do you have this culture at the office where your employer (management) try to shame you if you leave at the normal hour? How do you deal with it?
If you work in France I would like to know what's your work schedule, because I'm in a startup and everyone stay there until 18pm.13 -
Today I woke up from this craziest dream.
We were in France and there was a younger Mike Patton (who was french) speaking and apparently teaching french to an African girl.
The next scene he's in the back seat of what's apparently a taxi, and brags about how perfectly he can speak English. Besides that I see him playing the guitar.
In the last moments of the dream, however - and confusingly - the song Rusty Cage by SoundGarden starts playing loudly in the background. And that's when I found Patton is also a hacker.
Thinking about this part of the dream minutes aftger waking up, I found it to be the funniest, though not the craziest thing I ever dreamed.
Whereas I tried for hours to edit the configuration files of a tractor demolition game (some sort of Vigilante 8, but with tractors), he gets angry on a lady for an reason unknown to me, and in his moment of rage, manages to jump her houses' fence, surprisingly to edit her /etc/resolv.conf file - as if it was the most evil deed in the world.
In this final part, with Rusty Cage still playing very loudly, I find out me and my sister where watching this scene on TV (apparently patton was also an actor). After that, I comment to my sister in a grave tone: "Well, this guy is dangerous, maybe she should build a higher fence".
Then I wake up.
Although a crazy dream, it clearly addresses the fact I sometimes try to be a lot of things at the same time, and how this overwhelms me...1 -
Hey! I kinda need your help guys ! 😄
I'm quite a noob at programming but really love it and have been for quite some time.
I've been learning Kotlin for a school project lately and I finally got a working version done.
Could you give me some feedback about it, maybe some advice or some fun to program features to add? It would help me a lot!
I know it's a kinda useless app but it really was all about trying to use all the theory I've learned through tutorials by myself, and doing that really comforted me in the idea that I want to study the equivalent of CS in France next year.

My first dev job :
Do a front-end in Joomla!. As an internship. Without being paid.
(In France, if you are here for >2 months, they can pay you, or not.)
At least, now I know why Joomla is a no-no when you want to do custom things. Heard that the team working on back-end had problems of PHP, like the PHP appearing and the one Joomla uses "is not the same" or something like this.
And now you know if you didn't. No problem.4 -
I'm currently in France and after watching my first YouTube video here, I learnt to import lessons: 1. You can't escape from the udemy ads 2. The French seem to pronounce python (as in the language, obviously) like a French word...22

!dev random question vacation
So this is completly non dev and off topic. A friend and I will spend our vacation (2 weeks in september) in Guadeloupe (french oversea department). Both of us speake some french and we've got a rental car.
Has any one of you ever been there (or lives there) and could give us some advice on what to do/where to go?
We also plan to go scuba diving, which we'll probably do on the western side of basse-terre.7 -
I'd like to make an open source data registry, with an easy to access API. For example, perhaps I'd like to list all cities and postal codes in France, or perhaps get the number of dogs in Canada. Any ideas how to structure the open source part? How can people contribute? Should it use external APs?2

Paid for a private school in my country (France) cause public isn't so great.
After 3 years, realize that it was more bullshit than school so continue to paid until the last year to get diploma.
At the end, I was on Udemy to buy lessons and learn. Was way much cheaper than my school but since it's hard here without diploma, I had to finish scholarship...2 -

Just had my second interview with a French company, recruiter was not able to find my CV so I sent it back to him.
Told me I had a good profile but I didn't know kafka so might be a deal breaker.
Asked me useless soft skills questions then proceeded to ask me if I knew the process to get a work visa for France and when I said no he googled it during the interview LOL, maybe a good sign? who knows at this point.
Honestly no matter how well I do in an interview I find it quite hard that I will be picked while they could just settle with someone who might have a less appealing profile but does not require all this hassle to bring him into the company...it's really quite depressing.4 -

This might sound like generalisation but the amount of paper people in France (atleast Paris) waste uneccesarily is shocking. It disturbs me to see some jackass printing pages after pages of garbage in the office each time they want to check if a printer is working as expected. Or the professors using huge white sheets to explain shit when the white board is right fucking behind them (to add to it, they use only one side of the sheet). Or literally every single store handing out paper receipts for a 1€ chocolate I buy. Why isn't their a digital alternative? Why are people so not bothered about how much they're fucking the planet just coz they have enough resources to live happily?
If machines ever overthrow humanity, I'm sure they'll do a better job in tidying up everything.4 -

France qualified to the finals of the world cup and people are already losing it here. In the 21st Century the problem is not to allow the use of Chemical & Biological Weapons & 'maybe' just 'maybe' achieve total nuclear disarmament (not in the next 120 years) It's not just the responsibility of the UK, USA, & France but that of every country that's a signatory of the conventions that banned the use of such weapons to intercept and retaliate against members that use such kind of weapons. From Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Brazil, China, India , Afghanistan, Butan, Taiwan, Iceland should use heavy force to stop the use of such weapons.1

So, I'm bored at work (contract ends in one month and finished everything I could do), so I started searching for a new flat for September.
In France we have a website called "LeBonCoin" which is like craigslist, people post available flats.
But, being a nerd, instead of searching manually (peasants) (and also because I have so much free time on my hands), I coded a web scrapper in Python. It gets all the info (monthly rent, description,...)
So far so good, now need a way to make it calculate the distance between the flat and my next work place (for biking), and the city center.3 -

israel population = ~10 mil
uk population ~70 mil
popular vote uk = 0
popular vote israel = 325
huh?????? i finally believe the conspiracy theory... there is total bullshit moving through the undercurrents of international society. actually the entire media and everything on the planet is shifted by angry retards with an IQ of approximately 27 who read something on twitter and therefore they must of course conform and do it
rich hands of influence reach far across this modern world....
my twitter dies on wednesday, I think i'm quitting this platform too... i'm just so sick of wasting time 'discussing' with people who literally have informed their entire lives by sources of media that all have an agenda, and yet said reader can't recognize that. go to bot school you fucking 🤡
also inb4 eurovision is a clown event, i know it is, but the fact that 'israel' as a country was for a good 10 minutes at 1st place of the vote is simply mind boggling to me (and to be fair, switzerland, france, israel, portugal, and croatia acts in terms of art and musical talent were all shit IMO) but what do i know? apparently the 700 mio people who live in europe don't agree - but even then, who knows anything about anything as to the actual 'numbers' that are posted on these 'votes' - could all be fake, or, even worse, the entire WORLD could be fake and i'm just typing to a fucking reflection of my own conciousness on this box
ach i'm very close to just turning it all off, its just rubes on top of rubes, derivatives on top of derivatives all more retarded than the next, and each night
then i get people like kiki who rage at me for getting drunk, then 'brag' they ran 5k. i ran more and drank more than you today, get over it.
i didn't need pills to do any of it either.
or i get sid the it kid, who gives non ironic lessons in fucking PHP 😂😂😂😂 in 2024 on youtube, and yet acts like he's a badass because he pointed out a 'redundant' 'const' in my code 😂😂😂😂 actually i don't know why in the first place i listened to any of it... going my own way has ALWAYS been the best way
by 2030 i will sell my saas(es) for 500k(+) and wonder why i even gave clowns on this platform the time of day
you know what? fuck it, it's been fun devrant, as of today i become a hermit, sick of this planet, and these apes
read books, go running, learn math (or any skill at that matter) and stay calm.
i can't describe in words to all of you how much a fucking abysmal waste it all is... just build useful stuff that helps people. the enormous (and trust me, it is absolutely eclipsingly enormous) discussion about everything around everything else is truly and utterly mind numbing and time wasting to the absolute core

Well... I'm in apprenticeship, and the company I work for asked me to do insanely complicated algorithms about paid leaves and stuff (Oh and I'm in France so you get the mess about leaves). Is there any place online you could recommend to get a job? (I know PHP, JS but eager to start learning other languages). Thanks :)7

Hey, does anyone have experience working as a Dev without a degree in France ?
My girlfriend would like to take up programming, but doesn't really believe she can find a job once she's ready.1 -
I once had to install a Mac OS VM for a school project. I tried customizing one simple thing in the boot options and I was meet with a green screen with an apple support phone number, no debug options. FML. We ended up begging the TA to do Android app instead, and we did :)

Fucking OVH had an electrical issue AGAIN!!! it's for second time in the last 5 month. had to reinstall the OS because kernel is fucked. thank god i backed up my data5

Our company has a retarded system for external/outsourced employees, incase you don't know in France many companies hire "consultants" that work for other companies, the gain from this is as a consultant your company takes care of finding a job for you and setting you up and all that jazz
In return they take a cut from your salary, the retarded part of our system is, the management of externals is done through a tool, everyone who has access to this tool can see how much these externals are making.
Found most of them on avg in the 100-125k eur/year range
With the exception of one getting paid a whooping 174k eur/year
Assuming the external company takes a 30% cut
That means that most externals in our organization in France get paid around 70 to a 122k/year
I don't feel like working in this shithole anymore.
Fuck my rng, vasectomy should be mandatory for every new marriage in a third world shithole like mine.2 -
Corporate -> Startup -> Corporate
Well this corporate is based in France and has a better reputation so hopefully my time here will be better -
Wise people of devrant, I need career advice:
I got offered a contract by a french consulting company for my first job, but they also told me that they probably won't have a project for me untill April (because they have enough juniors for now and new positions probably won't open untill they get a new batch of projects.)
Needless to say I'm angry at myself for being such a noob but they are right :/
What would you do? I am still looking for other possibilities atm, but nothing too concrete has popped up yet besides these french guys: I got an offer for an unpaid intership that is waiting for a geen light, and a couple of other job interviews lined up for the next few weeks.
Also I currently live in denmark, so I would need to relocate to france come April.
I would be inclined to sign the contract anyway and return their kindness, as they could have just told me to fuck off and come back in 6 months, (at least they like me) but I don't know what is best in this situation...
Should I stick with them and wait, perhaps training myself in the mean time? Or do you think it would be better to pursue other options?4 -
Hate how here in France most of the research labs use SAS/STATA instead of R. I wonder if it's the same elsewhere3

My father has 2 younger brothers, the younger one was the one whose life was easier compared to the others, so he could do better studies (basic studies in my father's context was to be able to handle a farm, which my father couldn't care less), and managed to study around computers.
Since he lives in south of France (Toulouse), we only could see him during the Christmas period, where he'd bring a trashy Windows 95 "laptop" and initiate my father to stuff like Excel or web browsing.
He'd also bring pirated games for me, like Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, Command & Conquer, the good quality 👌
This is how I came from not knowing computers at all to being addicted like there's no tomorrow, and how I decided to make it my job a few years after, that was the good times -
Going to France for a week on Sunday. First time away without a computer, I do have my iPhone though. Should I read my emails or ignore them? Hope things don't turn to shit.4

[serious (second) post]
I am student in computer science in 2nd year, and I want to increase my skills. This is why I am searching a team which is on a (or many) free software project. I assume that I will not help "a lot" on the project because of m'y low skills. So, if someone is ready to learn me something, I am okay.
I have bascis on C and C++, JS, and mid-level on JAVA and PHP. I am motivate to help any open source project and to learn something. So, if you want me in your team, and if you are ready to learn me how to code better, please leave a comment.
I am from France (Belfort) if you want to know my localisation1 -
Hey guys, anyone in France (around Paris) who thinks he could find a one month internship for a JS dev ? My company just dropped the project they promised my SO an internship on...2

I'm looking to rent apartment and I'm baffled by this very weird potential scam.
The landlady wants me to pay the security deposit and the first month's rent using a recharge coupon of a prepaid cash card called Transcash. This is in France btw. But she tells me that she shall provide me the agreement and key on the spot of transfer of the coupon. She also asked me to click a picture of the coupon and send it to her when I buy it as a proof that I'm genuinely interested in renting the place and her trip (she claims to live in another city) will not be in vain. Looks clean but my instincts are screaming that this is a scam. But the only scenario I can think of is them beating me up and stealing the coupons from me instead of giving me the agreement and keys. If it is a scam, I really want to know how they plan to execute it.8 -
The Peru football team is like a shitty parent who always tries not to miss your birthday, but misses it anyway or a slut girlfriend, who you just wish would change, she makes amends, but eventually ends up sucking some cock in an alley.
You almost fool me, team. Almost...8 -
First time would be when I had two teachers working of a bug that resultet in the CSS not loading / updating properly. It took me around 1 hour as well to realize that the text file was encoded with some obscure windows encoding, that doesn't load chrome (and maybe other browsers) can't load properly.
Thanks notepad++, will never use you again for web development.
Second time would be when I presented an app I made too the same teachers in order to boost my mark. Bugs that never appeared before every where and the basic functionality of the app was questionable. I hadn't worked on that app for half a year and had to fix as much as possible in a short amount of time, which might have made it worse.
Don't ask why but thanks to my knowledge about the france language I got a better mark, even though it was spanish1 -
Why do modern Europeans like to wear wigs?
The prevalence of wigs is closely related to the social life conditions at that time. Because in the 17th century, Europe, it was very inconvenient for people to bathe and wash their hair. Louis XIV, the famous Sun King, took only seven baths in his life. Not taking a long bath and shampoo, it is easy to breed parasites, especially hair, hair thick, often sweat, it is easy to grow lice. The best way to solve this problem is to cut the hair short or shaved, but the hair is cut short or shaved, and can not reflect the identity of aristocrats, it is better to wear a wig, have the best of both worlds.
In addition to the aristocracy as a fashion, the real problem for a wig to become a status symbol, is that the wig is expensive and the average person cannot wear it. In the 17th century, the wig was very elaborate. At that time, there was no machine production, so it depended on labor. A skilled craftsman needed a few days to make a wig. A judge's wig costs £1,800, and a regular wig costs £300. This money is a huge expense today, not to mention Western Europe before the Industrial Revolution. Therefore, wearing wigs is not something that ordinary people can afford. And at that time, the wig was quite bulky, also uncomfortable to wear, often working people naturally will not wear.
In addition to being expensive and inconvenient to wear, the embellishment and maintenance of wigs are also quite cumbersome. The 18th-century wig often had some pollen and some paint added. Pink wigs are easy to drop powder, and they are difficult to take care of. So, it is naturally not favored by ordinary people. By the late 18th century, young men simply added powder to their hair. The wigs worn by women were large and striking, but they were heavy and contained wax, powder and other ornaments, becoming a sign of luxury.
However, with the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the middle of the 18th century. Natural hair without wigs is slowly being accepted by more people. In Goethe's masterpiece, "The Trouble of the Young Witt," Witt's natural hair triggered a natural fashion trend at the time. After the outbreak of the French Revolution, the revolutionaries tried to establish an equal society, eliminate class differences, and the wigs representing their status were naturally among the objects of changing customs.
In addition, in 1795, the British government began to tax the hair fans, which hit the wig and hair fan fashion, and began to decline in the 19th century. By the 19th century, the wigs became smaller and grave. In France, wigs are no longer a status symbol. But wigs remained as a status symbol for some time. After the French Revolution, French wigs, which no longer became a symbol of status, were associated with professional prestige. Some industries and fields use wigs as part of their professional clothing, such as judges and lawyers. This habit continues to this day. Judges and lawyers in the Commonwealth wear wigs in court or at major ceremonies, a tradition in previous British colonies, but it makes them a mark of colonial rule.
The popularity of a generation of fashion, it must have its historical background, once1 -

Hi,
So I'm want to start looking into the hiring none French (not based in France) engineers but still inside the Schengen Zone (EU).
Do you have some ideas as to what recruiters or platform I might use for this?
The idea is to work with quality not shitty recruiters.
Ideas? Recommendation?36
