IT MAKES ME HAPPY FOR SOME REASON

Oh boy.

I recently, I switched job for an open source company in Lyon, FR.

They had struggles to find me something to do (still has, tbh), so they sent me to a client of theirs, to help for a biiiiig project that's really old (created in 2001)

The thing was... Horrible. Lots of styles were set via JavaScript without condition, I found 3 different versions of jQuery, at one time they added Object oriented development in a context where they had HTML, JS, (inline) CSS and... PHP of course, inside of one PHP file. The architecture was more "uuuh these files in this directory will be about this functionality".

And it goes on forever. I told them that I hadn't the required level of PHP knowledge to have an excuse to get the fuck out of there, my company didn't like it but it was either that or my mental health.

Today at work I saw 2 tech guys (Russians) that tried to fix an audio system at my hospital clinic.

The PL-3.5 cable was unable to transfer any sound to the speakers from the secretary PC.

So they tried to plug it into one of their phones, to rule out the possibility that it is because of the PC headphones plug.

(The speaker volume currently is on *maximum* btw)

1st guy said "Let's play something nice and relaxing, so the patients (mostly old people) won't get an heart attack"
The 2nd ask "So what should I search in YouTube?"
Then the 1st said "Metallica"

When I was having Introduction to Programming in the first year of college, the teacher said something that stuck to me:

"Always program as if the guy who ends up mantaining your code will be a violent psychopath who knows where you live."

I later found out that it was a quote by Martin Golding. But it really motivated me to keep decent documentation of every method o.o

So Mr. D is a lecturer at ENS Lyon and they think my application fro grad school is **interesting** and they want to have a virtual meeting with me. This is the first email of this genre that I receive without a thank you note.

However, I remember that I applied for a master's of Computer Science, NOT Fundamentals of it (Do I look like I have a death wish?). I thought, like all other universities that don't specify this bit, that I would choose my research interest there and pursue it. Also, I used my undergrad uni alumni email for the application, so why contact me using my Gmail? And what does he mean by saying my file was judged "interesting"?

I don't know, it feels both creepy and wrong. When people apply with an email address to your position/program, you use the same address to get in touch with them. Not anything else you scrapped out of the internet, right?

Just went to my first Ruby Meetup in Lyon, FR 😍

It was so weird to actually meet people that fully understand why you love Ruby so much, since they love it too!

I'm so envious of the people whose job is to develop in this language, I really hope my next job will be about working with Rails too *.*

I have grown used to hunting for ; issues. But when my haskell doesn't compile because my work partner used notepad and tabs instead of gedit and spaces... I suffer ;-;
